Steve stroked his fingers through Billy’s hair. Billy had his head rested on Steve’s chest, both of them curled like cats on the couch.

“It’s not lame. I don’t really care.”

The television was quiet, the sound barely audible as it showed the countdown to the new year, panning over the crowds in Times Square.

Billy was fucking sick. All goddamn day his stomach was threatening puke, and his head seemed to be rebelling against him.

So any New Years Eve plans were cancelled, and he had planted himself firmly on Steve’s couch, on Steve’s chest, with Steve’s fingers playing idly with his sweaty hair.

“We were gonna go out. Now we’re stuck here.”

“I don’t give a fuck about that, Bill. You know that. Plus, I mean, where would we go?”

Billy shrugged, his arms wrapped around Steve’s waist.

“I dunno.” He was being pouty, but he felt so shitty he thinks he deserves to be pouty.

Steve pressed his lips to the crown of Billy’s head.

“I just like being here with you.”

Billy felt his cheeks get hot, so he turned his face to hide against Steve’s chest.

“Still lame.”

Steve laughed.

“Happy ‘85, Bill.”

i saw nope yesterday & the main thing i cannot get out of my head is the part in the gordy flashback where gordy’s about to do the fistbump with jupe, but then animal control finally shows up & blows the chimpanzee’s brains out before they can touch. that moment of connection, that acknowledgment that gordy had been just as scared by the balloon popping as jupe is by what gordy’s done, that he’s more than just a spectacle for viewers to laugh at, taken away in an instant
