Make it make sense that "rudimentary" finish on a showstopper went home instead of someone whose showstopper was 1) RAW 2) underbaked 4) had fewer and less unique flavors - some you could not even taste because again... the entire thing was raw 5) significantly less intricately plaited (which was a skill you had to demonstrate) 6) and on the nitpicking aspect of finesse, absolutely lacked finesse and art because it was a word and not an image and half of the display was inedible 7) came absolutely last in the technical because they left out a key ingredient that made their bun not even rise or taste right.

You are telling me bland flavor on a signature and a "rudimentary" appearance on a showstopper along with a texture that "just needed more" was WORSE THAN THAT?!

I am calling robbery. I am calling bullshit.

#homestuck #dave strider #pkmn #mashup #siivagunner #not officially but. in spirit #hs #i didnt have to change any key signatures at all btw which is surprising #i didnt need to adjust anything beyond the tempo of the notes from two different midi files #but like lining up with the measures and transitions thats all natural overlap #i mean i literally ripped the route 216 midi and soundbank straight from the game myself #and i did some minor adjustments on a davesprite midi someone made using it as a base so it sounds good in this context #like altering some chords and putting in some compound meters to fit with the percussion of route 216 #AND sound more like the original davesprite because the original midi kinda fell flat in really small places flow-wise #but i dont blame them its hard to place the notes out in a way that has good flow #i also altered some bass parts to be consistent with the davesprite melody

Thinking about the discussion about "Not Your Seed" when TGWDLM first came out about how much of the lyrics are the Hivemind manipulating Bill and how much was Alice.

I love this musical. Don't know why people look concerned or confused when I say "horror comedy musical." Those genres belong together.

I accidentally put too much effort into the outline of this and grew emotionally attached to it and decided to make a whole picture. It was fun. I had at least five different ideas for a background (green spotlight, green fading into grey, blue hivemind goo?) but settled on emulating the set in this scene. I did add the banner over the door to the choir room.

annnnd now it's 3 am and I'm drawing and I don't wanna stop. but I have to drive to my uni in like. 6 hours. to collect some stupid signatures so I can get my diploma or whatever. 🙄

so bertie can sightread new (and sometimes difficult!) music and play it flawlessly WHILE singing along to it near-flawlessly all on first try, but he can't tell that ff is fortissimo... i always assumed he had a classical education because he was so proficient at piano but this changes things.

now i'm inclined to assume this was a skill he picked up on his own, gathering bits of instruction here and there, OR he was one of those folks to whom music sense came easily and he paid attention to only the most necessary theory (how to rudimentarily read a sheet) to get playing. and we know it does come easily to him - besides the sightreading, he's seen riffing even as he turns to speak to jeeves in the middle of a song. throughout the series he seems at his most comfortable while playing the piano and i just. really, really love that

you ever stop and realize something and get mad because you SHOULD have realized it AGES ago because you've had all the pieces for a while now but you can't explain it to someone else unless they also have all the pieces or you are willing to show them all the pieces so they can also see how they fit?

#long story short: I got mad because it took THIS long for me to realize Sondheim learned his composition tricks from Bernstein #long story long: I was listening to Sideways while at work #great music youtuber please go watch his videos #and in particular I was listening to his video on Into the Woods #and I remembered an interview with Sondheim talking about his composing process #how he takes melodies and inverts them or puts them in minor key etc. #and how that's all over Into the Woods #then I remembered that Sondheim worked with Bernstein to write West Side Story #and that West Side Story ALSO does the same thing with signature melodies #and everything clicked into place #I've known this for ages I KNEW Sondheim was learning from Bernstein on West Side Story #why didn't I fully get it until now?
