When a catcher could stop a shark
When a catcher could stop a shark
The tools of ignorance are actually pretty smart. The bigger mitt. Mask. Chest protector. Shin guards. Never play without a jewel protector, aka a cup. Add the throat guard and the goalie mask, though I prefer the old school helmet. I always felt as though this standard gear means you have things pretty well covered, at least the stuff that’s important. But as it turns out, not all in the…

Diabloceratops eatoni
Tumblr media
By Jack Wood
Etymology: Devil Horned Face
First Described By: Kirkland et al., 2010
Classification: Dinosauromorpha, Dinosauriformes, Dracohors, Dinosauria, Ornithischia, Genasauria, Neornithischia, Cerapoda, Marginocephalia, Ceratopsia, Neoceratopsia, Coronosauria, Ceratopsoidea, Ceratopsidae, Centrosaurinae?
Status: Extinct
Time and Place: Between 81 and 79 million years ago, in the Campanian of the Late Cretaceous
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Diabloceratops is known from the lower and middle members of the Wahweap Formation of Utah
Tumblr media
Physical Description: Diabloceratops is one of the most completely visually distinctive Ceratopsids - like all members of this very samey group, its body was the same as the rest of them, but its head was distinctive enough to give it a famous name. Like other Ceratopsids, Diabloceratops had four squat legs, a thick torso, and a short tail. It had a long head, with a large crest and a giant beak in the front of its snout, as well as teeth well built for chewing. The interesting thing about this Ceratopsid is that, while it has small brow horns like most early members of this group, it also had two very noticeable horns coming out of its frills - curving away from each other, the left one curving out to the left and the right one curving out to the right. This gave Diabloceratops the very distinctive look of… well, the Christian depiction of Satan. Hence its name, Devil Horned Face! It had a lightly built skull, with a hole seen in earlier Ceratopsians than the later Ceratopsids, and its head was shorter and deeper than later members. The frill of Diabloceratops was kind of weird too - very tall and narrow, rather than wider as in later Ceratopsians. Diabloceratops was primarily scaly all over, though it is possible (especially given how early derived it was) that it had quills or feathery fluff on its tail like earlier Ceratopsians. It was probably about 5.5 meters long from head to tail.

Diet: As a Ceratopsid, Diabloceratops probably fed primarily on plants, though it is possible that it supplemented its diet with meat from time to time for protein. It would focus on low-lying and medium-level plant material, less than a meter in height.

By Franz Anthony
Behavior: The frill and fancy spikes of Diabloceratops would have been primarily used in sexual display and other types of communication between members of the herd, especially since they were rather small all things considered. That being said, other Ceratopsians would use these features for defense, and it is thus likely that Diabloceratops did too, even though they didn’t evolve for such a purpose. Diabloceratops, like other Ceratopsians, would have been a very social animal, spending most of its life in herds with socially complex behavior. These herds would have aided Diabloceratops in defending itself from the local predator Lythronax, and any other predatory animals that may have attempted to attack it. Like other dinosaurs, Diabloceratops probably would have taken care of its young, and the social group would have aided it in doing so. Being a large herbivore with deadly weapons on its face, Diabloceratops would have been a very aggressive animal, not trusting anything that got too close to it or its family. It is possible that Diabloceratops herds also migrated too and from the Western Interior Seaway, based on the seasonal rainfall.

Ecosystem: The Wahweap Formation is one of the earliest environments we know of from the charismatic and iconic Late Cretaceous North American faunas - those ecosystems from the Campanian and Maastrichtian which featured Ceratopsians, Hadrosaurs, and Ankylosaurs a plenty, all being preyed upon by terrifying Tyrannosaurs. Weirdly enough, this unique makeup of these ecosystems is unique to North America - while Hadrosaurs could be found elsewhere somewhat, both Tyrannosaurs and Ceratopsids were very rare elsewhere, Ceratopsids especially so. Instead, the world was frequented with many other kinds of large predatory dinosaurs (especially Abelisaurids), and Titanosaurs were some of the most common large herbivores. But I am getting off track - the Wahweap Formation is one of the earliest of these charismatic locations, and as expected, it has some of the earliest members of these groups to branch off, including Diabloceratops. The Wahweap Formation began as a very dry ecosystem, filled with sand and very brief wet seasons; over time, it became a pond ecosystem and - by the time Diabloceratops disappeared - a very fertile system of rivers running in from the Western Interior Seaway.

So, in the time of the earliest part of the formation, Diabloceratops was a living in an extremely seasonally varied environment, as it began to transition to more freshwater being present in later millenia from its earlier dry beginnings. The diversity of the later environments, however, was lacking in the earliest one. Here, Diabloceratops was preyed upon by Lythronax, and while some mammals, turtles, and crocodylomorphs were present, it is entirely possible that the great diversity of mammals and other animals to be found later wasn’t present quite yet. In the middle environment, when the ponds were coming in and things were getting more lush, Lythronax was gone - but now Diabloceratops was accompanied by the Hadrosaur Acristavus, similar to the later Maiasaura. There were many non-dinosaurs too, like turtles, though it is uncertain if the many mammals found in Wahweap are from the middle, lower, or upper parts of this environment.

Interestingly enough, one of Diabloceratops’ closest relatives, Machairoceratops, is known from the upper unit of this formation - indicating that it is possible that Diabloceratops evolved into Machairoceratops, and never really disappeared from the environment at all.
Tumblr media
By José Carlos Cortés
Other: Diabloceratops is usually found to be a Centrosaurine, the group of Ceratopsids with prominent nose horns and frill ornamentation, and usually little to no brow horns. However, a very recent analysis of Ceratopsian relationships found Diabloceratops to be neither a Centrosaurine nor a Chasmosarine (the other group of Ceratopsians, which includes Triceratops and its closest relatives), but rather outside both. Either way, Diabloceratops was a very early Ceratopsids, showing characteristics that are often found in common between both of the major groups of these dinosaurs - and showing how weird their headgear got even early on in their evolution.

Jonny Vegas, Founder of The Total Lacrosse Hall Of Fame, interviewed the 1st Woman to be inducted into the Total Lacrosse Hall Of Fame, Justine Beirne!
JV: How long have you been playing lacrosse 🥍?
JB: Since 1998.
JV: What is your most proudest memory as a player?
JB: My proudest memory as a player is scoring in Hawaii last year. *Editor’s note: Justine scored a goal 🥅 on Professional Lacrosse Player Curtis Dickson last year in the 2019 Hawaii Lacrosse Invitational! Justine was awarded the Game Ball by her Total Lacrosse Club teammates after the game & Curtis even signed the ball for her!
JV: Now that you have done what many women’s lacrosse players have never done which is play Men’s lacrosse successfully for many years, do you think more women should follow in your foot steps? If so, what are some of the hurdles you’ve had to overcome on your journey to playing Senior A box lacrosse for the Huntington Beach Screamin’ Eagles(formerly named Huntington Beach Dukes)?
JB: Yesssss. I think women should be on the field wherever sports are being played. I pray more women start playing box lacrosse 🥍 and also that there will be opportunities on the pro and national level for all womens teams to compete right against the men! There are a few of us at the senior A level right now and it would be great to make it a movement. For me my hurdles were about using my weight correctly out there and keeping up with the agility of some of the mens players. Doug Gizzi has been training me for a year and everything about my game has changed.
JV: Talk to us about playing for Total Lacrosse Club in the Hawaii Lacrosse Invitational? How was the experience playing with and against the greatest players in the world?
JB: The 2019 Hawaii tournament made it feel really real to me that I could step out on the field with anyone and hold my own. Can’t wait till next year.
JV: Also, tell us how great it felt to score a goal against PLL pro Curtis Dickson?
JB: Scoring on Curtis was one of the greatest moments of my life and his kindness and great sportsmanship and encouragement afterwards meant the world to me.
JV: You also were awarded the game ball too! Lastly, what does it mean to you to be inducted into the Total Lacrosse Hall Of Fame Class Of 2020?
JB: I’m really grateful to be in the TL Hall of fame and always grateful to be included on your rosters for tournaments. Thanks for being such a great teammate and friend Jonny

Legacy
Author’s note: So I started this a while ago, but made a few changes. I will ship my soft bois in this fic, fight me and look out for more fics with them! Enjoy!
The world’s ending again and it’s up to a bunch of teenagers to save it. They’d been going nonstop for two days, watching family and friends die from an unknown alien menace. 17-year-old Luca Gordon-Grayson and his team had been hiding in an old Cadmus Lab, gathering whatever information he could hack from the computers.
Luca looks at his team. Jania West swears as her older brother, Matt West, unwraps a bandage on her arm to check a bullet wound, both their bows abandoned on the ground beside them. Ceridian sits on some old crates, carefully balanced as he reviews footage from around the world. He has all the calm grace of his father, Kaldur, at that age.
All three of them are exhausted, but ready to continue the fight. Ready for what comes next. Why isn’t he?
“I think we need to find a new hiding place.” Ceridan says, rising to his feet, “We can’t hide out here forever.”
“We can’t let the bad guys find this place either.” Jania points out, wincing as Matt rewraps the wound. “Half the files here could destroy the world.”
“I can destroy it.” Luca offers. “I have a few things I need to gather still, but you all should start heading out. I’ll meet you 4 kilometers southeast, at the old burger joint on 5th.”
“Are you sure you’ll be safe? This place is still booby-trapped.”
“I’ll be fine. I’m Robin after all.” He offers them the trademark Robin smile and none of them question it. They never do. While Ceridan and Jania gather their stuff, Matt pulls him to the side.
“Babe, you sure you’re ok?” Luca tries to meet the speedster’s gray eyes, but he stops short. He knows that compassion in them will break him.
“Yeah. Just tired.”
“Are you sure? I can stay with you if you—”
Luca smiles softly and holds his hand, “I’ll be fine. Promise.”
The lie’s bitter in his mouth, but his boyfriend doesn’t question it. Matt takes a second to press a soft kiss to his lips. Luca kisses him back before looking up at him. “See you on the other side.”
After taking any supplies they can, he watches them head out. Luca lets his smile fall and hooks his gloves up to the cables in the wall. It’s easy for him to watch his friends’ blips make it out of the building safely and send all the files to them. Once his work is done, he activates some security measures.
“Robin?” Matt’s voice in his ear throws him off a bit. He can’t do this with them listening. “Rob, what’s your ETA?”
No answer.
“Robin?” It’s Jania’s voice this time.
“I have a plan. I promise.” He watches the numbers on his screen as they count down. “You all have what you need for the mission.”
“Robin. What’s your ETA?” Matt’s voice is serious now. Sharp and hard to hide the fear behind it. “Luca? Luca!”
“It’s gonna be ok.” 30 seconds now. He lets his head fall back against the wall, staring up at the hole in the ceiling. At least he gets to see the stars. “It’s going to be ok. I promise. I promise. You all don’t need me for this part.”
They understand too late.
“LUCA!”
10 seconds…
“I’m coming for you, Luca! I’m going to save you—”
5 seconds. He closes his eyes.
“I don’t want to be saved.”
The world erupts in flames around him. He doesn’t even scream.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s been a week since their training simulation. Their failsafe, which went better than the first one their parents were in. The others failed soon after him. Luca had disappeared before anyone could confront him about his actions. A week in Gotham locked in his room, only coming out for food when he knew his parents were gone. He couldn’t avoid it forever which is how he ended up here, in the therapy room, face to face with Dinah Lance.
“I don’t want to talk about it.” Luca glares at the ground.
“Alright, we don’t have to talk about—”
“Don’t bullshit me. We both know the League protocol. I can’t go back in the field until you clear me. Given your record, you won’t clear me until I talk.”
“You seem to have it all figured out.”
“Comes with the territory.”
“What’s does that mean?” Dinah leans forward.
“I’m Robin, part of the infamous Batfamily. I always have a backup plan, I always know what to do, I always have an answer.” Luca chews on his tongue.
“That sounds lonely.” Dinah says. “Is it?”
“The title alone? Yeah, it is. But try being the son of the OG Robin and OG Batgirl. Try being the grandson of Bruce Wayne and Jim Gordon.” The tightness in his chest gets worse and worse the longer he talks. “Try never getting to be a teen and fuck up. Because everyone is looking at you for the answers. Everyone expects you to have a plan even though you just watched your entire family be eviscerated, but you’re a Bat so it’s not like you feel anything, right?”
“I can’t imagine—”
“No. You can’t. No one can. Ceridian gets to stop being Aqualad and just be Ceridian. Matt and Jania stop being Impulse and Velocity. They get to be teenagers. They get to go home and go to school and do what they want. They haven’t been in the media’s eye since birth. They never had to learn how to carefully word things, so you don’t create a scandal at 5. They might have expectations in the hero world, but they get to be civilians!” He’s crying. When did that happen? Why can’t he stop? “They don’t have tabloids filled with homophobic bullshit about them because they’re GAY!”
“Luca—”
“No, Dinah! I’m done! You got me to talk! And you know what?! I hate it! I hate this feeling! I’m done!” Luca storms to the door.
“Luca, if you leave, I can’t help you—”
“I don’t want help! I don’t need to be saved!” He slams the door behind him. His ears ring. He needs to think. Somehow, he ends up on the beach. The League rebuilding Mount Justice for the new generation was supposed to give them hope. Instead, Luca wants nothing more than to run into the ocean and never stop.
“Hey.” The boy wonder whips around to see his boyfriend walking up to him. Matt sits on the sand, not saying anything. Luca sits next to him. They watch the ocean in silence for a while. Matt, of course, breaks the quiet. “You know what sucked the most about the failsafe?”
“What?”
“Not being fast enough. After you…did what you did… we kept moving. Training kicked in and we all just…shut down. Focused on the mission. Jania went next. I was right next to her. I should have seen that fucking bullet. I should have saved her…” Matt keeps his eyes on the ocean, red hair seeming to catch fire as the sun starts setting. “Ceridian and I…We just wanted to take as many of the fuckers out as possible. And we did. And we died.”
“Matt—”
“I don’t know why you did what you did. I don’t.” Matt finally looks at Luca. “But I wanted to tell you something.”
You’re breaking up with me. Luca steals his heart.
“I’ve got your back.”
“Wait…What?”
“Look, I know better than anyone what it feels like to have a shitty legacy.”
“How do you know about that?”
“You told me before we were together. Remember? We were talking about our initiation day. I was so excited to be Velocity. You were proud to take the mantle of Robin, but you told me you were scared. I’ve seen it beat you down over the years. If I’ve contributed to that, I’m sorry.”
“Matt. You don’t have to apologize. I should have told someone I was struggling sooner. This is on me.” Luca can’t stand the hurt in Matt’s eyes. Matt gives him a small smile and takes his hand.
“How about this? It doesn’t matter if it was anyone’s fault. What matters is what we do moving forward. I’m not sure what you want to do, but I have some appointments set up with Aunt Dinah.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I need help figuring out some other stuff that failsafe made me go through.”
“I… I don’t know if I’m ready to talk to her.”
“That’s fine too. She’s always around. Hey.” Matt makes Luca look at him. “Talking about what hurts doesn’t make you any less of a man. It doesn’t make you weak or unworthy of being Robin. It makes you strong.”
“Why are you so fucking smart?”
“My mom’s been reading me Poe and Dickson since birth. Comes with the territory.” Matt kisses Luca’s forehead. Luca’s never let Matt kiss in out in the open. Failsafe was an exception, but the thought of someone seeing them petrified him. So why is he pulling Matt closer? Why are his lips brushing against the speedster’s as the setting sun sets the world on fire? Just one last goodbye in case Matt suggests a break?
Matt kisses him back, his hand holding the back of Luca’s neck. Luca grips the front of his boyfriend’s shirt, scared to let go. Eventually, they need air, reluctantly breaking apart. Matt stands up and offers Luca his hand. They walk to the cave together.
“Matt, when you said you understood a shitty legacy…”
“I’m talking about my grandparents. Lian has it worse with Aunt Jade’s past, but yeah.” Matt shrugs. “We’ve made our place in the team on who we are. Not our parents’ merits.”
“One day, you’re going to talk like a normal 17-year-old.”
Matt gives that bright laugh that Luca fell in love with “Not likely.”
------------------------------------------
Luca arrives home in Gotham a few hours later. He’d spent most of the evening just thinking while he and Matt watched mindless sitcoms. Luca can still feel the warmth of his boyfriend’s arms around him, his much longer body encasing him. Luca could have lived there for the rest of his life. But he has things he needs to do.
His parents are at the dinner table. Dick rises as his son comes in.
“Luca John. We need to talk—” Dick doesn’t get much farther than that. Luca’s already crying before he reaches his father, throwing his arms around him. Dick looks at his wife before hugging his son as tightly as possible. “Hey, bud. It’s ok. I’m here. Your mom and I are both here for you.”
“I know, Dad. I know. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”

Forensics to Romantics (Magnus Martinsson x Reader)
Chapter Three: The Present Reflects the Past
Part 3/?
Words: 2,660
AN: I am so so soooo sorry I haven't posted in so long. Life and school have been crazy, but it should be calming down at the end of the month. To help make up for it, I made this chapter a bit longer than usual. Hope you guys enjoy. Love you all!!!
Warnings: Death and Angst
(Y/N POV)
Magnus and I had arrived at Amy's address and saw that there was also another patrol car just pulling in.  I got out of the car, followed by Martinsson over to where the other two officers had just gotten out of their car as well.
"Dickson," One of the other officers, Jake Lance said as we approached them. "We have the warrant and were told to wait for you."
"Great," I said with a nod. "Thank you, Lance. You and Hairston," The other officer and Lance's partner, Jenna Hairston. "Take the back door while Martinsson and I go to the front."
With that, the two of them made their way around the back of the moderately sized one-story house. Martinsson walked behind me as we made our way up the four steps that led to the front door, and I could see that he had his hand on his gun. I knocked on the door three times then waited for a response. After a few seconds a woman, Amy, opened the door.
"Hello?" Amy asked when she saw Martinsson and me outside.
"Hi, Miss Bloom," Martinsson said. "I am ID Martinsson and this is DI Dickson. We are here to ask you a few questions about your late ex-husband, Mr. Richards."
"Oh." She said and her mood changed. "I was sorry to hear about him, I really was, but we haven't spoken in two weeks."
"Ma'am," Martinsson started to say. "We need to come in and look around."
"What?" She asked looking almost scared. "Why? I mean, you can't, you need a warrant."
"We do," I said flatly unfolding the paper and holding it out for her to see. "Now please, we need to have a look around."
She lowered her head and stepped out of the way so Martinsson and I could enter her house. I was met with the strong smell of alcohol and the sight of things scattered all over the floor. Clearly, she was in disarray, and if I was right, killing two people only added to it. I was on high alert, and I knew that at this point she could do anything.
"I am going to ask you a few questions," Martinsson said as we walked in. "Please sit down. Dickson is going to look around while I ask some questions."
"Alright," Amy said moving a pile of magazines off the couch and sat down. "What....What do you need to know?"
I walked out of the room as Martinsson began questioning her so I could look around. I could see Hairston and Lance coming in the back door into the kitchen and they walked over to me.
"Dickson," Lance said quietly as to not disturb the questioning Martinsson doing in the other room. "Do you need us her any longer? We were just requested for back-up on an actual arrest with basis."
I knew that like most others at Scotland Yard, Lance didn't really think I could figure out a suspect quickly and that any idea I had was a waste of time. I was used to it by know so his comment about having an arrest with basis didn't really bother me, but I could see a sympathetic look in Hairston's eyes.
She had joined the Yard about a year ago and she was one of the few people who didn't hate me and we had even shared a few lunches together. She was sweet and had a good head on her shoulders, and was one of the best shots in the Yard.
"I understand," I said to Lance and without a second glance, walked out the door. "See you around, Hairston."
"You too Y/N," She said softly and began to walk to the door. "Good luck."
I gave her a nod and she walked out the door to follow Lance. Now it was just Martinsson and me in the house with Amy.
I looked around the kitchen for anything that could help prove what I already knew about her. I saw empty beer cans in the sink and on the counters. Besides the mess of beer cans and magazines, the cabinets of plates and silverware were completely organized. I looked down at the counter and saw that knife block was just as organized as the cabinets, except for one thing.
Two of the bigger knives, like the kind you would use for cutting turkey, were missing. I first I thought they could be in the dishwasher but when I looked inside of the dishwasher, there was nothing in it. Then I looked at how big the slot for the knife was and could tell it was almost, if not, the same size as the one used on Duke Richards and Julie Patterns, now all I needed to do was find the knives.
I walked down the hallway and saw the door to her bedroom was open. I stepped in and was greeted with a different order that I recognized a metallic smell. blood.
I looked around the room for any signs of blood, even though I knew even the drunken, disorganized woman wouldn't leave evidence out in the open. I put on a pair of gloves and a face mask so that if I did find anything, I wouldn't contaminate it. As I looked around more than a few things caught my eye.
There were a few pictures of her and Duke but his face had been crossed out and so had the area where his hard would be. That was probably an emotional motivation, emotion is a strong motivation.
I walked into the joint bathroom and the smell was even more prominent than before. I pulled back the curtain in the bathtub, but there was nothing there but soaps and hair products. Knowing that there was a large amount of blood somewhere in this room, I decided to look around more closely. I looked in the linen closet, but once again, nothing. Then I saw the small hinges on the side of the mirror and knew that it was a door. A lot of homes had these types of mirrors, they would have a medicine cabinet behind them.
I opened the cabinet and before I even had it all the way open, a heavy object fell into the sink with a thud. I looked down and saw the knife that was missing from the kitchen, and it had some faded red marks on its wooden handle. I did not touch it because the CSI would need to photograph it and take it to the lad for a blood test.
I looked inside the cabinet and saw balled up blood-stained clothes. I quickly closed the cabinet door and walked out into the bedroom. I took off one of my gloves and took my phone out of my pocket to call Lestrade.
One thing was still bugging me though. Where was the other knife?"
Hello?" I heard Lestrade's voice come over the phone after a few rings. "Dickson?"
"Yes," I said back hastily. "I need a CSI team over here as fast as you can. I found bloody clothes and a knife that looks about the same as the one we suspected in her bathroom."
"Damn," He breathed out as he spoke. "Alright, they should be there in about fifteen minutes. Until then, you have the right to arrest her and bring her in."
"Certainly sir," I stopped when I heard some noise for down the hall where Amy and Martinsson were. I knew something was wrong. "I have to go; I think something is going on with the suspect."
I hung up and quickly shoved the phone back in my pocket and made my way back into the hall. I took my gun out of my holster and held it in front of me sturdy. I rounded the corner and saw what I had been worried about.
Amy had a large knife to Martinsson's through and he had his hands up as to not make her do anything rash.
"Amy Bloom," I said forcefully while having the gun trained on her. "Put the knife down and we can talk about this."
"Talk about what!" She yelled out, her whole body shaking. "I know you are going to put me away! There is nothing else to say or do!"
"If you kill him it won't help you any," I say as calmly as I can. "Look, I know you feel stuck. I know you feel betrayed, but killing won't make it any better. You don't have to do this; trust me it will only make it worse for everyone."
I was getting worried about her shaking; it was getting so violent that she could have cut Martinsson easily with her shaking.
No, this can't happen. Not again.
"Put the knife down," I said again. "You know it's the right thing to do."
She looked at me then at Martinsson and then at the knife in her shaking hands. After a few seconds, she dropped the knife and Martinsson quickly grabbed his cuffs and placed them around Amy's writs.
I felt so stupid for not knowing that she would use the knife, I should have figured it out sooner.
*Time Skip*
(Magnus' POV)
We had Amy Bloom in one of the holding cell's and the lad results from the blood would be coming in any minute now. I can't believe within my first week on the job someone got the jump on me, and in front of Y/N no less. She must think I'm a really great cop now. She did seem to change moods once we had Amy in custody and was left alone to think.
Y/N talked to me briefly after the incident, asking me if I was alright and things like that. I told her who Amy had a knife hidden in the couch where we were sitting, and that's how she was able to get me where she had. But after that, she had been keeping her distance. Even back at the station, she would barely even look at me.
She probably doesn’t want to be seen with the screw up new detective who managed to be a hostage on his first case.
I saw two of the other officers from earlier, Lance and Hairston walking by. Hairston stopped and looked at me with a smile.
"She's really something isn't she?" Hairston asked, and I assumed she was talking about Y/N.
"Yeah," I said thinking about all the things I had seen her do. "I have never seen or met anyone like her."
"We haven't formally met yet," She began with a warm smile and sticking out her hand. "I am Janna Hairston, but please call me Jenna."
"Magnus Martinsson," I said, shaking her hand. "And call me Magnus."
"You know," She started looking around to make sure no one was coming. "I think she has taken a liking to you, well as close to a liking as you can get with Y/N."
"I don't think so," I said softly. "Not after today at lest."
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"I mean," I began taking a breath and ruing a hand through my blond curly hair. "I don't think she was very impressed by my being a hostage on my first case. That's why she has been avoiding me since we got back."
"Oh," She said softly as if she was remembering something. "That's not it at all, Magnus."
She pulled up a chair and sat next to me, looking into my eyes sadly.
"It's not that she doesn’t like you or doesn’t want to be seen with you," Jenna said to me with a sad tone. "It's just, well, something happened to her about two years ago, and I think what happened today reminded her of it."
"What happened?" I asked, now very curious to know.
"It was before I started working here, but I heard about it for the others here," Jenna began. "And Y/N did talk about it with me once. You know how Y/N doesn’t have partners, they all can't take working with her and request to work with someone else right?"
I nodded and gave her a sad look.
"Y/N is fully aware of that fact as well," Jenna said. "In fact, after what happened two years ago, she requested that she would not be assigned a partner."
"So," I began to ask. "What happened must have been pretty bad, right?"
"Yeah, it was," Jenna said. "Y/N and her last partner, officer Hailee Baxston, were going after a suspect. They had all the evidence they needed to convert them, thanks to Y/N, and so they sent Y/N and Hailee in first, they were the closet and no one else was there yet. Everything seemed to be going great, it looked like they would get in, arrest him, and get out without problems, but that didn't happen. Hailee and Y/N spit up so they would corner him, but when Y/N got back to Hailee, things went south."
"In what way?" I asked, even though I had an idea of where this was going.
"The man they were supposed to arrest had snuck up on Hailee," Jenna began after looking around once again to see if anyone was nearby. "He held a gun to her head and waited for Y/N to find them. He demanded that they let him go or he would kill Hailee where they stood. Y/N tried to talk him down, but he knew he wasn't going to be able to get out of this one. Y/N told him that if he didn't put the weapon down then she would have to shoot. Before Y/N could react, he shot Hailee right in front of her and then shot himself. She died a few seconds later right in Y/N's arms."
"That's awful," I said after taking in what Jenna told me. "I can't imagine what that would be like."
"The two of them were close," Jenna said after a few moments of silence. "She was the only one who stuck around with Y/N. It also didn't help that Hailee was spotted to be off that day, but Y/N asked her to help with the arrest because they had both spent so much time trying to nail the guy."
I let out a breath and looked over to where Y/N was talking with a few other officers about the arrest.
"I know Y/N won't say it out loud," Jenna said to me softly. "But she blames herself for what happened. She doesn’t like to show emotions or get close to people, but Y/N and Hailee had a bond, so losing her took a toll on Y/N."
"I can imagine," I said shaking my head. "That would shake up anyone."
"See, it's not you Magnus," Jenna said looking at me. "I think it just reminded her about that day. I know that you have only been working with her for two days, but I can already tell you are different. She likes you and I can tell you like her; most people won't want anything to do with her after the first few minutes. You two seem to work well together as well."
"You think?" I asked."Yeah," She said with a nod and stood up. "I really do."
I gave her a smile as she walked away and then I turned my gaze back to Y/N. I had a new understanding of Y/N and was amazed that she still stayed in this line of work after everything she had been through. I still couldn't see why no one wanted to work with her, I may have only known her for two days but she seemed like a great person. I think her intelligence just scared people off, but to me, I just found it more admirable.
Seems like there was so much more to know about Y/N Dickson then meets the eye, and I planned on sticking around long enough to find out.

legends of tomorrow as john mulaney quotes
Sara Lance: “Just raise your hand and be like “I think Emily Dickson’s a lesbian!” and they’re like “Partial credit””.
Ray Palmer: when i’m walking down the street, no ones ever like, ‘hey look at that man.’ i think they’re just like “woah! that tall child looks terrible! get some rest, tall child! you can’t keep burning the candle at both ends!”
Jefferson Jackson: “Top three colleges? I thought I’d be dead in a trunk with my hand hanging out of the tail light by now.”
Gideon: “I don’t like robots…thinkin’ of things.”
Nate Heywood: "I also don't want me to be doing what I'm doing."
Amaya Jiwe: "Some people give off a vibe of, right away, they’re like, “do not fuck with me.”
John Constantine: “eat ass suck a dick and sell drugs”
Leonard Snart: “Sometimes babies will point at me and I do not care for that shit at all.”
Rip Hunter: “Part of me was like, whatever, you know, you know those days when you’re like this might as well happen? Our life is already so goddamn weird.”
Martin Stein: "like, we would just go see movies. any movie. like back to the future. that was a movie everyone could see. kids could kinda see it. great movie, right? i rewatched it recently. it’s a very weird movie. marty mcfly is a 17-year-old high school student whose best friend is a disgraced nuclear physicist. and, i shit you not, they never explain how they became friends. they never explain it. not even in a lazy way, like, “hey, remember when we met in the science building?” they don’t even do that. and we were all fine with it."
Mick Rory: "FUCK DA POLICE!"

Who are your favorite fs choreographers? Is it easier to pick them in general or are there any specific collaborations/programs that makes you prefer them?
there are no choreographers whose works i unanimously like, it depends on the program and the skater performing it. some choreographers form very productive relationships with certain skaters, but once those skaters retire, they might not be as high-profile anymore. when daisuke takahashi and akiko suzuki were competing, my favorite choreographers were pasquale camerlengo and kenji miyamoto; they created some absolutely genius programs for dai and akiko back in the day - but they’re more under the radar nowadays.
at the moment, i guess shae-lynn bourne and tom dickson are higher up on my list. i like the way shae-lynn comes up with lots of different types of programs for a variety of different skaters, and how she fits those programs to the skaters’ personalities. i love tom dickson’s work with satoko miyahara in particular, he’s created some of my favorite programs in recent memory. lori nichol and david wilson have created many brilliant programs, but they’ve also created very boring programs, so it kind of balances out. i think both of them need a “muse” to inspire them; david was great with yuna, for example, and lori was good with mao and caro, and sui/han right now. i like a fair amount of jeffrey buttle and stephane lambiel’s work, but they can also be hit-or-miss. akiko suzuki is still a very new choreographer, but i really like some of her stuff and i’m looking forward to her future career; same with misha ge. i'm also kind of into lance vipond right now, he's not very well-known but his programs for kaetlyn and keegan caught my eye recently. and…well, i just like to keep an open mind when it comes to choreographers. someone i’ve never heard of before might create something amazing one day, and sometimes choreographers i usually like come up with duds.
