i also got really into cumbia / mariachi* songs (more teenage rebellion -- my MX family is into latin jazz *only*) and frequently tried to crack the code on country / rap / pop music (all hated by my dad).
at one point i was like, 15, popped the "black star" album into my dad's CD player and made him listen to the whole thing. lmao. that still makes me smile. i was like listen to the complexity!!!!!!!!!
and yet my dad still has his brain grooves, he only likes his music, he can't see the appeal in anything else
and the funny thing is, his brain grooves also come from his own teenage rebellion; in 1970s-80s los angeles he decided to get really into fuckin ragtime and barbershop quartets. which was definitely "a thing" but kind of like an "underground circuit." like you had to know where to get the records and see the shows, and had to practice for ages in solitude
of all the pianists my dad sounds the most like art tatum, to me. and i always get a little emotional listening to it. even though my dad is still around and really inconsistent and kind of an arrogant prick lmao. i can't help having this brain groove around ragtime piano stylings

La Isla Bonita - Striker x Singer! Reader
Tumblr media
Tropical the island breeze
All of nature wild and free
This is where I long to be
La Isla Bonita
The sun would set so high
Ring through my ears and siting my eyes
Your Spanish Lullaby
La Isla Bonita - Madonna
Tumblr media
You were definitely special, Striker had no doubt about it, when he heard you during the competition he was captivated by your melodious voice, even when you called him "snake". In fact that made him a little amused, because it was quite obvious that he was a hybrid, but even so Striker couldn't help but look at him even for a moment and when he saw you, he really became fascinated by you.
At first, you seemed to be a fairly normal imp, you had black hair and black horns with small white stripes, traits typical of females of the species. However, what differentiated you from the rest was that you had a curvy silhouette. The red dress you were wearing only highlighted your wide hips and hugged your waist. Also, your makeup and the roses you used to decorate your hair made you stand out a lot more than other girls and your natural beauty will stand out; and Striker knew from the first moment he saw you that you were very beautiful and that he had to conquer you.
"Vil víbora." He heard you say that phrase in Spanish that he couldn't understand but that he wanted to interpret as a kind of compliment.
Did you also speak Spanish? Every moment that passed he became more interested in you and it seemed like the feeling was mutual, Striker laughed internally as he saw how you tried to hide your blushing cheeks with your fan.
Do you really think he didn't notice your persistent gaze towards him throughout the competition? Maybe this was going to be much easier than he thought.
When he won the competition, (which clearly cheated) and claimed the prize from him. He turned his gaze to you and saw you cheering for his victory. Striker chuckled as he rattled his tail like a real rattlesnake and shared a look with you, he saw your pretty eyes get scared of him.
"Aw, you're too sweet for hell, sugarcube. But I'd still go after you." Striker thought to himself.
Before he could do anything he heard the voice of another man who saw that he called you and you ran towards him; He seemed to be your father, since you looked a lot like him and when you approached him, he heard you two start speaking in Spanish.
Striker watched you walk away with your father, and somewhat disappointed because he couldn't talk to you, he limited himself to going to the place where you saw the competition. That's how he found your red fan that was lying on the floor, he picked it up from the floor and cleaned the dust off it, with this he smiled through his teeth again.
Now he had an excuse to see you again and he would definitely go after you.
You've captured his attention after all.
___________________________________________
Striker really didn't expect to find you so quickly, he simply decided to attend the party he was invited to by one of the farmers who had worked with him recently. Striker wasn't exactly a party guy, but he wasn't going to turn down the opportunity to drink a beer and have a good time if he wanted to, so after the competition he went through it seemed like a good way to celebrate his victory.
But he didn't expect to see you.
As soon as he was welcomed at the party by his boss and his wife, that's when he saw that you were in the middle of the small improvised stage with a classical guitar in your hands and some mariachi musicians who seemed to accompany you. You were still wearing the red dress that accentuated your pronounced curves and beautiful figure so well, you put your black hair in a ponytail and you seemed to have more red roses since the last time Striker saw you.
"¿Cómo puede ser verdad?"
There was no doubt that it was you, he could recognize that beautiful Spanish accent of yours anywhere.
Last night I dreamt of San Pedro
Just like I'd never gone, I knew the song
A young girl with eyes like the desert
It all seems like yesterday, not far away.
When you started singing on stage, Striker had his eyes on you and only you, just like you did when you watched him in the competition. I knew you had a beautiful voice, but the fact that you were a singer was a real surprise that Striker didn't expect but that he somewhat admired about you.
It was no secret to anyone that he is also a music fan. He knew how to play the guitar, he sang and composed, but you just showed that you were at his level; that was saying a lot with the big ego that the rattlesnake demon had that made him stand above the others. That you made a good impression on him was surprising, like some kind of miracle.
Such was the amazement you gave Striker, that even his boss could notice how quickly you caught his attention, so he simply let out a laugh.
"So, do you like that girl, son?"
"Well, she really is a sweetheart, Hal. Do you know her?"
"That's my niece."
Striker momentarily stopped looking at you to narrow his confused eyes at Hal.
"She's your what?"
"Yes, she's my niece. She comes from Carmen's side of the family, they come from the other side of Wrath, and every so often we get together to spend quality time. But that always ends in big parties and my niece is the soul from the party."
Tropical the island breeze
All of nature wild and free
This is where I long to be
La Isla Bonita
And when the samba played
The sun would set so high
Ring through my ears and siting my eyes
Your Spanish Lullaby
Hal was not exaggerating when he said that you exuded dazzling energy and passion, you seemed like a bright light that shared its warmth to others beautifully, Striker cursed under his breath.
Not even Beelzebub could compete with you, darlin'
"And you already knew my niece, Striker?"
Hal's question caught Striker off guard, it's as if he had taken a bullet in his shoulder or at least that's how he felt it, but he tried to calm down a little to answer.
"I saw her during the competition today, she looks like she's from Wrath but I haven't seen her here before either. She's so…"
"Special?"
Striker was actually going to say "hot" but took Hal's answer as valid by nodding his head. To which Hal just let out another laugh.
"I know what you're going through, son. I also felt the same way about Carmen when I met her, an attractive and charming woman, from the other side of Wrath but who seemed as if she were the last drop of dew in the desert; but her love It burns as hot as the hottest flames of hell."
I fell in love with San Pedro
Warm wind carried on the sea, he called to me.
You threw one of the roses from your hair into the crowd, who fought over the rose like wild animals fighting over food, but you didn't care about that as you tentatively approached a boy in the front row to whisper in his ear.
Te dijo te amo
Although you whispered it, everyone heard you, the guy in question fainted, while all the men in the crowd, upon seeing this, decided to attack the imp that you paid attention to. Striker didn't blame them, he would do the same thing if he were in that place, he still could do it, maybe tonight he could shoot a couple of heads off. A young lady as beautiful as you couldn't settle for just any imp, no, you deserved a man who could protect you and he could easily fill that position.
He had to make you his.
I want to be where the sun warms the sky
When it's time for siesta! You can watch them go by.
Beautiful faces, no cares in this world.
Where a girl loves a boy, and a boy…
Striker stared at you and it seemed like you noticed his snake stare because you stopped for a moment, again he could see in your beautiful eyes how nervous you got so soon when you saw him, Striker let out a small laugh at this.
Loves a girl
Striker loved the effect he had on you, it would be so easy to go after you, he couldn't wait for the moment when he could talk to you and finally win you over. So as soon as you finished singing your performance, Striker was already behind you, until he was stopped by Hal.
"So, I guess you're going after my niece, right Striker?"
"There is a problem with that?"
"Not at all, son, I can understand why she captured your attention so much. I only warn you one thing, girls like her are very difficult to conquer, I tell you from my own experience; I had to do a lot for Carmen to even accept me on the first date." Believe me when I tell you that it is much easier to kill a hellish pig than to be with one of them."
"Please, Hal, I don't think she's that difficult."
"I'm just telling you to prepare yourself, son. This could be one of the most difficult duels you've ever had."
Striker simply rolled his eyes to the side and walked in your direction before he was interrupted by Hal again.
"Please, Striker, be good to my niece. She really is a good girl."
The rattlesnake demon hesitated for a moment but in the end, he gave a sigh and raised his hat in respect, he was lucky that Hal is a good man to do that.
In the end, Striker walked over to where you were, who seemed to be talking to the musicians who accompanied you in your performance, and waited until they left to talk to you.
You and him could probably make a wonderful duet together.

Anonymous:
I have this 18 year old preppy college roommate, and honestly, he’s a bit of an asshole. Always talking about how fit and perfect he looks, with his curly blond hairs and tall stature. Hell, he even like to tease the hispanic janitors in his college, lording over how tall and smart he is. You think you can teach him lesson? Perhaps make him into a fat, short, smelly Middle Aged Mexican dad? I’m sure that’ll change his perspective on life a bit.

I agree with you. He should definitely become what he mocks to humble himself. And I believe everything you say we are going to make happen.
Tumblr media
You’re room mate just want passing the janitor making fun of him. You came up to him right when he finished saying “I bet you’re so stupid you don’t even understand what I’m saying do you ! You dumb animal!” Abs the janitor was just smiling at him. He didn’t know what he saying. The janitor just arrived in the country a few months ago after fighting and putting everything on the line to be here with his family. He was the nicest man you’ve ever met and you’ve been working with him to learn English so he would be able to understand people but. You’re room mate walks away. You go up to the janitor and ask him in Spanish if he alright. The kind many simply explains that he could t be happier. People here are always so nice. He wasn’t expecting that. And there even that one guy that just walked away that always comes and talks to him. Making him feel welcome every day !! The janitors name was Rico. And you couldn’t be happier that his English wasn’t good. Because knowing what was truly being said would crush him. You get back to your room and your roommate is there doing some sits up. When you walk in he stops and says “making out with that stupid Mexican again? I swear you being so tolerant of them is making you weak! Hell you already speak to them !” You couldn’t take this ridiculous attitude anymore. And you tell him exactly what you think of him. You didn’t know why you expected but you didn’t expect him to launch himself at you. Punch you In the face and knock out a tooth. Right before you passed on the floor you could have sworn that you seen what would only be described as inhuman. Dark shadow. You felt the crushing weight on your hand and when you flinched it jumped back. And right before you passed out it was leaning over you. Horns long and sharp with deep red eyes. The door opened as your roommate walked out of the room and the shadows spirit darted out the door with him. Everything went dark.
You’re room was just sitting down to eat something at the restaurant right around the corner when his phone rang. His bros wasn’t going to be able to meet up for food anymore. They got stuck working on something for school and couldn’t make it. Your roommate just rolled his eyes. “Fucking figures. And now I’m stuck here !” He had already ordered food. It about to arrive and the mariachi band just started playing music for the couple a few booths down. He really hates Mexican food. As he look at the couple with hate in his eyes he didn’t even see the dark shadow glide across the floor. Attacking his own shadow. Destroying it. And replacing it. When his food came he only ate a few gates before he had to get the check. The food was too spicy. He knew he should have just went to McDonald’s from the get go. When he didn’t feel like his check was coming fast enough he just got up and walked out without paying. His new shadow mimicking every step he made.
When he got back to your dorm room he didn’t bene bother checking on you. Still passed out on the floor. He went to the bathroom and slammed the door. “Pathetic human!” He said under his breathe referring to you. He started his nightly skin care routine when he noticed something off. A dark hair sticking out of his face. Thick. Dark. Out of control. He plucked the hair and was surprised as joe strong the root of the hair was. He didn’t think it was going to come out. His stomach began to gurgle and he had the urge to vomit. Running to the toilet he began to heave. He knew he shouldn’t have had that Mexican food ! He sat d down on the side on the bathtub. Head in his hands looking at the floor waiting for the nausea to pass. That’s when he notified his shadow. Like there were horns coming out of his ? What is that. He looked up seen nothing there and then back down when he seen the horns on the shadow. Then it started ….
Started at his feet they began to cramp. Moving on their own as the tendons and bones broke and reshaped. Becoming smaller and much wider. Going from a 14 to a 11 ½ triple wide. Thick dark hair began to sprout on the tops of his feet and toes. He fell backwards into the tub his legs being in the airs as he seen the muscles begin to shake abs soon his calves began to inflate. Look like footballs were being stuffing is calf’s and his thighs followed suit. Soon thick dark hair was pushing out of his legs as well quickly covering them in a dark forest of foreign black hairs. Freaking out he tried to pull himself out of them tub and when doing so felt both of his hands breaks and reshape themselves. Forming thick fat fingers. Attached to wide calloused calms. While again. The same thick dark hairs covered his knuckles and the backs of his hands while then change travels upward to his forearms. Forcing muscle to expand out on his arms all over. He began to look like a man who spent all his time in the gym. The arms of his stripped hoodie began to get tight and he began to burn up as the hair piled onto his frame. He managed to get out of the tub. He needed his roommate to call for help. He was having some kind of allergic reaction to that Mexican food. When he stood up he was brought to his knees in front of the sink as his back gave out. Causing him to shrink going from 6’2” to 5’7”. Bracing himself on the floor he felt his should push out. Getting wide than ever before. Then he felt the weight. As his abs began to churn. Feeling as if his stomach was spinning in circles. Then when he managed to stand again he didn’t have tile to see his changes because he started feeling as if he was being pumped with sir. His sweater began to curve outward. He unzipped it frantically and he seen what could only be described as horror as he he seen his once toned stomach begin to push further and further from his frame. While his pecs puffed up more and sagged slightly looking like muscle tits on what was becoming a quickly rounding keg of a stomach. Tears were welling up In his eyes. He felt the dark hair traveling on up his completely formed keg and wasn’t long before he seen the dark hairs spread up the middle of his stomach. Then fan out. Connecting with the hair on his back. Coving just a full body sweeter as it wrapped up around his shoulders and across his chest. He looked in the mirror. Tears were rolling down his face when he could see his cheeks began to get fatter. A 5 o’clock shadow began to form which quickly turned into a beard so thick he couldn’t see his skin anymore. His beautiful blonde hair felt out making him bald save for the sides of his head where the hair turned her black. His nose broadened and stuck out a tightly and cubes while his cheek bones rose and set in place. The skin he could still see under all the body hairy began to dark. First a light sun kiss. Then quickly into a dark tan that you can’t get just by being in the sun. This tab was inherited. This tan was …..Hispanic. Your room at looked at himself in the mirror and screamed as he realized he was now an exact imagine of a middle aged Hispanic man. No one would ever thing he was a young fit jock looking like this. He didn’t even look American anymore !!!
Tumblr media
He came stumbling out of the bathroom. You were beginning to stir awake. And he ran out the door before you could see him. Along the way sweat began to pour on his fattening form. All this added weight on his smaller hairier frame began to soak through his clothes with thick greedy Hispanic sweat. His thoughts raced as his mind changed making English a second language. He came to a corner and collapsed panicking. Crying in a deep baritone thay his body now had. Unable to stop the loud deep cries. That’s when the janitor came by. Abs just as if he was speaking English you understood him. “Hey big guy you play ?” You try to tell him what’s happened and he just looks at you puzzled. “Alright…. We’ll let’s try and get you some clothes.”
A week passed and you walk by and see that a new janitor has started working for the college. You talk to Rico and he tells you about the new man working there. “He’s just got here last week. Big ol fella. Crazy stories about being a young fit college student here but I’ve seen his phone. He has 10 kids at home. Maybe you can help him learn English ?” And as you approach the big bellies janitor you can’t help but see a horned shadow beneath him. The first that catches your attention about him in the smell of Bo. As if he hasn’t bathed in a while. The new janitor looks at you. As if he notices you and you can see the sadness in his eyes. And you ask “would you like to learn some English?” The man begins to cry as id you e offended him.

There should be collective nouns for groups of hunters who all use the same weapon, like a party of hunting horn users would most likely be called a band, mariachi, or orchestra, but to me it'd be most accurate to call it an orgy

🎶 Remembering a Legend: Johnny Cash
In 2003, country music lost an icon, a true musical pioneer - Johnny Cash, "The Man in Black." With his deep, distinctive voice, he captivated hearts across generations. 👢🎸
Johnny's journey began in the cotton fields of Arkansas, where he developed a love for music and an enduring passion for storytelling. He turned his life's hardships into poetic lyrics, becoming a symbol of resilience.
His career skyrocketed as he signed with Sun Records in the '50s, and his hit "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash" became an iconic introduction that sent shivers down spines worldwide. His raw, authentic sound and outlaw image made him a legend.
Let's talk about "Ring of Fire" 🔥 This song isn't just a chart-topper; it's a declaration of love's burning intensity. Written by June Carter Cash and Merle Kilgore, it explores the fiery passion of their budding romance. Johnny's rendition, with its iconic mariachi horns, turns it into an unforgettable classic.
"Ring of Fire" was featured on his album "Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash," solidifying his status as a genre-defying artist.
Did you know Johnny Cash's first prison performance was at San Quentin in 1958, marking the start of a special connection with inmates?
Let's celebrate Johnny Cash's enduring legacy and the emotions he stirred in all of us.

SUNDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO “Ring of Fire” live in Oregon--https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZJGxy-65NU "Ring of Fire" is song about the transformative power of love. It was written by June Carter and Merle Kilgore. The lyrics were inspired by a book of Elizabethan poems kept by her uncle, the legendary A.P. Carter. June's sister Anita Carter recorded a version of it, which didn’t ignite the charts) before Johnny Cash took a casual interest in it. Then he had a compelling dream about going to Heaven and hearing “Mexican horns” at St. Peter’s Gate, and the “Ring of Fire” song was playing. So he daringly recorded it with mariachi horns and it was a big hit. His children are protective of their father’s legacy as, in 2004, they declined an offer to license the song to Preparation H for advertising (no joke). This video (taken by Uma Robin Mackey) was an off-the-cuff busking event in Bandon, Oregon (9/3/22). At the very end you'll see some bonus footage by an enthusiastic special guest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZJGxy-65NU

So im going through shakiras discography and i just found a bunch of interesting things, like the time she covered exactly three (3) songs to portuguese. Estou Aqui (Estoy Aqui). Um Pouco De Amor (Un Poco de Amor). Pés Descalços (Pies Descalzos, Sueños Blancos) We know that Shakira is not a stranger to translating her songs to other languages, but its curious that she put that much effort to rerecording three of her songs to appeal to brazil but never came back to it. Heres one i was able to find online.
youtube
I believe it was a part of a special edition of pies descalsos cuz it also came packaged with two remixes of her songs, namely estoy aqui, making it three versions of the same song in this alleged album. The thing is that this one is in spanish so probably it wasnt part of that collection, but the vibe of the song kinda makes me think that it was, because if i remember correctly, brazil was huge into this kind of eurobeat remix at the time. The other one, "Donde Estas Corazon (Remix Single)" has similar vibes so im confident on why they could have been packaged together with the rest of the album.
youtube
The other thing that kinda blew my socks off was a cover she did of Ciega, Sordomuda as a mariachi song, and past the pastige of the usual trap of latin beats that the us fell to in the late late 90s and early 00s, a mariachi song is basically old mexican folk, its more than just a guitar and some horns. Im kinda impressed that she actually managed to make a cover that, past some sloppy execution in genre translation, if someone told me it was an old ballad from the times of the mexican revolution, id believe you.
youtube
im genuinly surprised that this is the most accurate mariachi song from a colombian woman ive heard in my life. I seriously think that this could be played in september parties when people bring out the traditional mexican stuff. The track perse was found in a laundry service special edition with bonus tracks, i think the one im listening to is german for some reason??? Researching it a bit i managed to find she performed this at a live event for MTV allegedly but other than that the information is shaky.
As someone who always lover her music and kinda formed some of my musical brain growing up, its kinda wild finding silly stuff like this

Grado Hemp Headphones Review
https://www.hifichoice.com/content/grado-hemp-headphones The Hemp Headphone doesn’t lack muscle either. In contrast to the mood music of Max Richter and Sweet Honey In The Rock, I finish off with the Queen-meets-Rush extravaganza of Knights Of Cydonia by Muse. The galloping drum-beat is crisp and precise, and the mariachi horns – so often lost in the mix – shine bright and clear, evoking the…

"Americana-Cana-Cana-Cana Chameleon … "
Plunger's first encounter with Julian Taylor was the consummate sunny funk of 2019’s Avalanche; our next, 2020’s The Ridge, saw him in full rustic Country troubadour mode (carried off with equal aplomb) ... and then we discovered the rockier vibes of Desert Star! So we did wonder which version of Julian we’d see at The Water Rats in Kings Cross last week… as it turned out, all of them, and more.
With a very personable stage presence, Julian introduced pretty much every track with a pertinent anecdote. A philosophical preamble on the nature of ‘family’, both personal and in the wider sense, led into the mellow country of Human Race, written for his sister: a perfect vehicle for his treacly Old School ‘Little Green Apples’ vocal, beautifully resonant at lower registers (and not too far from his normal speaking voice), impressively impassioned in the higher closing peaks. Be With You, inspired by the local kids-with-cancer-summer-camp was followed by the last of this solo acoustic introductory trio, the finger-picked bouncy backporch cakewalk 100 Proof, written with a friend to commemorate their respective grandfathers reaching 101, in the final chorus of which Julian seemed to be overwhelmed by emotion.
Julian was joined by Michele Stodart (whose short expressive solo set had opened proceedings) on bass, Rae Vennan on guitar and Siân Monaghan on drums, for the farmstead-childhood-inspired The Ridge: eerie slide (from Rae's dobro, slung bluegrass-style) and cymbal swells introducing a rattling country beat and killer three-part harmony chorus. The darker underlying themes of Seeds (the murderous exploitation of First Nation Americans and Black Africans) were delivered in a resolutely upbeat and optimistic Jackson Browne Cali-bustle, with sophisticated rhythms and fine harmonies. This also featured the first (of several) enthusiastic crowd participation spots! There was more Eaglesy Americana too in the mid-paced amble of Wide Awake’s journey from country boy rural pride to open-minded awareness.
Soft-mallet drums, piano accents (from Rae doubling on keys) and liquid bass propelled Ballad Of A Young Troubadour Julian’s recounting of teenage hitch-hiking adventures (“I think I wanted to be Jack Kerouac!”), its vocalised hook an ideal situation for more crowd participation. Rooted in the aftermath of a serious car accident (“I was OK really but I wrote off the car my grandfather got me”) Opening The Sky’s 'lessons of life to pass to the next generation' had an appropriately big sky jangle, subtle keys and bass underpinning, tom-rich drums, and levels of love for land and family rarely seen outside the likes of Lynyrd Skynrd!
Julian’s last song on acoustic before switching to a Telecaster for the remainder of the show was the bustling Mariachi-spiced Love Enough, full of mMexicali drama, Julian’s vox rich in Orbisonesque impassioned vibrato.
Back Again, celebrating rebirth/reawakening (in nature and in people) mixed breezy West Coast vibe with finger-snapping 50s bobby sox swing, topped with smooth soulful vocals. Siân switched from mallets to sticks to bring added oomph - aided by Rae’s choppy rhythm guitar - to the gospel-tinged country rock of Desert Star (Who Could Ask For Anything More) which included a nice vocalised ‘lead break’.
Probably not very right on of us, but Plunger couldn’t help think of Robert Palmer’s Addicted To Love during Sweeter, its fuzzy slinky pulse (ZZ) Topped with Rae’s effective wah-wah Telecaster work; and the heavy, punchy, funk of Just A Little Bit evoked Prince-meets-Hall & Oates (particularly the latter, vocally) with the band vocalising the missing horn charts! A false ending to the latter preceded a driving disco-drum-driven coda, with the crowd this time dragooned into adding the horn phrases while Julian latino-rapped over the top. Introduced as “a little bit country, a little bit rock’n’roll, a little bit soul” Set Me Free’s relentless snare-powered Satisfaction beat allowed Julian to show off a gritty Neil Diamond / Bruce Springsteen rasp.
A chance encounter in a bar (and a chance encounter with a campfire) inspired the loping bass-led lascivious disco soul sleaze of Bobbi Champagne (providing a rare chance to hear a crowd of respectable middle-aged Brits bellowing ‘What’s my name? Bobbi Champagne’!) and an ex-partner’s love of “really ugly sweaters” was the spark for Be Good To Your Woman - a sweet, piano-backed, bluesy 60s soul number. The set closed with the storming Funkadelic-cum-Hendrix swagger of Zero To Eleven, but the crowd wouldn’t let him go without an encore: a highly sophisticated drum intro heralded the syncopated N’awlins beat and cracking harmonies of what Plunger *thinks* was Time from Avalanche (sadly we can’t be certain as our attention was hindered at this point by someone kicking over our pint… fair play though, he bought us another one).
A thoughtful, often thought-provoking, performance from an artist whose low-key down home honest interactions instantly established a warm rapport with his audience, and whose songwriting skills and vocal dexterity (apparently across whichever genre takes his fancy) are second to none.

This video (taken by Uma Robin Mackey) was an off-the-cuff busking event in Bandan, Oregon (9/3/22). At the very end you'll see some bonus footage by an enthusiastic special guest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZJGxy-65NU

SPIDER MAN INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE REVIEW
Ah yes, In this day of constant remakes and revisions of old stories. It can be hard to find good media, luckily Spiderverse wasn’t one of them.
Here I’ll be talking about the movie in depth, if you want avoid spoilers just go the very bottom to see my recommendation and number rating .
PRAISE
As per usual, the animation was fantastic with the mix of 2-D graphics and 3-D, alongside other great features of styles like paper cut outs and even stop motion. Every character has a great design, and the music was incredible! Specifically for Miguel who has a digital sounding horns, I find it cool that it almost sounds like a mariachi band but in the future which makes sense considering Miguel is Spanish descent and also from a sci-fi background.
The story is also pretty solid no big plot holes, in fact there was a solid conflict in the narrative of saving people. In the movie miles wants to save certain people but can’t due to events call “canon events” this a reference to canon which is what is real in a story. In spider-man universe every character has certain emotional events they need to happen in order to keep they’re universe in tact. If one doesn’t let certain events happen than it could lead to the entire death of a universe- miles in specific has to go through his father dying, or else the universe of his own could collapse. Miles’s universe is specifically important due to the fact he was a first “glitch” in the system meaning he was the one who started the process of connecting different universes which potentially means that if he messes up his canon event it could mess up the entire web universes altogether.
This conflict is great and understandable, while you can see why Miguel does what he does, it doesn’t mean we think that miles is a idiotic in his actions. Almost any teenager would probably have a hard time understanding or even thinking about losing a father, this is especially seen in how he is shown to have father issues so having him die suddenly would make his lost hurt more. Never being able to tell he is Spider-Man or that he could make it up to his dad before his death would be devastating.
I also liked the characters in this one as well, we got at least 3 new main spider-man London spider-man, a punk rocker who looks like a magazine cut out. Indian Spider-Man which is probably the newest member only doing 6 months of super work, and lastly holographic spider-women a girl who is a tech genius but she doesn’t get that much screen time.
After those characters we have recurring ones as well, Peter b Parker, or brunette Spider-Man. Turned into a dad and has a baby daughter, and gwen who comes back from the last movie. All do pretty great but I must say that gwen takes up too much screen time even if she is my favorite character. She is probably the second main protagonist in this movie, I can see the reason why though as she does some things that could be seen as very disagreeable like lying to miles constantly about important issues. Showing her perspective can help us understand her intentions of why she did so she doesn’t look too villainous and she is also heavily implied as the love interest.
Now with my long praise I will have to say my critique of this movie and talk about any pet peeves I have

CRITICISM
now people on the right are probably wondering “it might be good but isn’t it filled with political fluff?” I would definitely say yes, there is certain Easter eggs and dialogue that can definitely seem SJW and make it clear where a majority of the artist in the movie lean towards. Examples would probably include, a lot of BLM pins and trans flag in Gwen’s room and pretty much all of spider-punk’s character. Now while this might be in the movie, that doesn’t feel like a big reason to not watch it, I highly disagree on the stances that BLM and what Gwen’s flag says. (I’m a nun after all) Yet that doesn’t mean I won’t watch it, because these political and real life issues are quite literally in the background of the story and trying to convince me to agree with the stances. I know a what a person said about SJW that I highly agree with “you can have SJW artist and character and even writer, but all of those can be done good. As long as it isn’t a SJW story” This quote is pretty good in saying how they’ll always be artists and writers who lean toward a certain political angle and even characters themselves but as long as those characters are in a story that can enjoyed than it’s a story worth telling. I agree, one can highly disagree with one’s political viewpoint and still enjoy they’re work if it’s good.
I will also say that it isn’t all SJW propaganda, in the story both Gwen and miles have father figures who are policemen and are seen and looked up to in the story. Fatherhood is actually shown a lot in the story which I love as we don’t see many father and child stories as much anymore. There’s also at least a some better justification for being so left-leaning, spider-punk is a rocker who is an loves anarchy and going away from authority so it makes sense he would be be radical and all social Justice like- this goes with Gwen as well, as she’s a girl that probably is all rock band like and hangs with hobie so will probably have a similar viewpoint as him.
Now with those political fluff explained, I will talk about aspects I dislike. First Peter B Parker bringing his baby around is a bit annoying to me, why bring a baby you love so much to a battle? The movie even points out how this pretty bad parenting, it’s the same for the pregnant spider women who I don’t even know the name of. Because she was in the movie for so little, both are equally silly as I really don’t get putting you’re child in danger like that. Peter B Parker is probably much more annoying as it’s also clear his wife didn’t want him to go with the baby either. The only reason I feel it put here was because of that seen where he says “I made her because of you” or another is that in the comics there has been an ongoing frustration with Peter Parker not being happy at all and fans wanting him to just have a family finally and start his life as spider-dad. So maybe this is a fan service for comic readers who are tired of a cesspool of Spider-Man suffering.
The movie is also 2 hours and ends on cliffhanger, it’s been ongoing trend of movies doubling runtime to 2-3 hours on average and making it a part 1 or 2. Likely to have more justifiable reason to come to theaters but doesn’t make it any less annoying, I like movies that have a story that can be finished up in a whole movie. The only reason I let this movie slide is because it’s animated and it’s rare for a runtime of 2 hours for this kind of medium.
Lastly this is a nitpick, but I am a bit disappointed at how we didn’t see the other spider people from the last movie. Penni Parker was a nice edition and people know I love Nicolas Cage as noir. So seeing them only at the end of across the spider verse makes me a bit disappointed.

CONCLUSION
Overall spiderverse was a good break from the MCU and Disney in general. Showing how superheroes can never go out style with a good story and visuals as a cherry on top. I recommend this to everyone. For families I will say that 10-17 is a better age group for Spider-Man across the spiderverse but if you’re more loose on ratings than it’s not too bad if younger kids watch it.
I will say that there are a lot of bright colors and lights so for those who have sensory issues, test out with a few YouTube clips before you go to theaters as it is flashy. Overall 8.5/10 a good sequel.
