Rango is a story about learning how to function in society after a lifetime of traumatic isolation thats left you with a tenuous grip on reality and morality. its about realizing that identity isnt just a character you make up like an actor playing a bit for your own amusement that you can abandon at will, because that coping mechanism is now redundant when youre dealing with real people and your actions have consequences. its about how if you want to exist in society and have a part in other peoples lives, you have to commit to the identity you make for yourself. its about how we use archetypal social roles, like the wild west hero, as character shields to mask our flaws. its about found family, and how if you choose to be a good person, you will have loved ones who will see right through the persona youve adopted, but also see the truth in it, and still love and support you, both in spite and because of it.
