Exhausted

I cried myself to sleep the other night. Just as hurting and couldn't stop crying. I'd stop listening to sad music, but the tears just kept falling. Some days are so hard.

STBXH decided he didn't want to pay taxes this year, so I had to drain my bank account to cover the taxes. Those funds were for my trip this year. He knows this.

Cops were out looking for a man on a crime spree this weekend. So that was fun to listen to. Went to a local play this weekend with Kid2. His girlfriend was in a play and did amazing. It was so great to hang with him and see how proud of her that he was!

Nothing else. Nothing exciting. Nothing noteworthy.

Wayne forced himself to get out of bed to grab a cup of coffee. He had been up all night playing a farm RPG and he wasn't planning on sleeping anytime soon. Walking into the common kitchen, he found two figures hunched over on top of the dining table with their backs turned to him. He narrowed his eyes at them, before ultimately noticing his 'I Love Metrocity' - er, Metro City - mug on the edge of the table. He walked up to place a hand on the empty-

“AH! I died again! Roxanne threw a hand up into her hair, falling back on Wayne behind her with a soft thump."Ugh, this game is so frustrating..."

“Roxie? What are you playing?" Wayne asked, slightly confused at her outburst. "How long have you been at this?"

"Metroidvania platformer. Since last night."

"And him?" Wayne points at a happy but jittery looking Megamind.

"I don't know but he's having more fun than me.”

they asked for some post canon hcs. I had so many ideas leading up to this. Sadly, only had time to make one. This was originally going to be a short story of about a thousand or so words but I don't know how many of yall would like plot and dialogue based off game discourse XDDD So I cut out of all of it and made a little drabble. Welp, hope yall like it! Thanks to @elf-kid2 for hosting this event! I hope we can have more of these for the fandom > w < Reasons to why I chose the games and consoles for them under the cut (plus one other tiny hc)

Wayne - Gameboy - Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town - I LOVED THIS GAME AS A KID. Still do, honestly. It's a little pixel game where you play as a farmer and you get to choose between different boys to marry (or not and you can make all of them go celibate lmao). I also played the version where you can marry girls. But I picked this version coz in this one, you play as a girl and one of my standing hcs is that Wayne is trans and gay represent OmO I also picked the gameboy because, I think, Wayne loves classics. (He is literally an Elvis Presley fan, you can't tell me he doesn't like old school good stuff)

Roxanne - Laptop - Hollow Knight - I think Roxanne wouldn't be one to buy a separate console for videogames, I'll leave that up to Megamind and Metroman. She'll probably think about practicality and how PC gaming will be the forefront in the near future XD Choosing between two games for her was hard. I finished Cuphead fairly quickly by repeatedly throwing myself at the levels, Hollow Knight is a little bit harder if only because you have to walk around after every death and explore every single pixel of the map ;') But since she is a reporter she will love that and all the nuances of history in the game's lore. THE LORE (chef’s kiss)

Megamind - Cellphone - Kingdom: New Lands - I know I said that Megamind would probably have a console or two (maybe a switch or something) but I do believe he will be using his cellphone more. He'll whip it out whenever he gets bored of peaceful patrols. And OMG this game is such a mood for him. Basically, you get to customize a character (!genderfluid) who will then lead your kingdom into prosperity. Sort of. I think Megs will love the idea of playing 'overlord' in this game (but a good kind of overlord sooo XDD) Also his quote in the small drabble is supposed to refer to him killing rabbits in game with the 'Great Bear'. Honestly hard to explain, if you haven't played the game or any of its sister games.

And they all wear sleeve cutoffs because mhmm (if you also have ideas of what games/consoles best represent them, I’d LOVE to hear them) also don’t ask me why they look kinda young here XDD

Here is the situation: you emerge from your cave after days just for 10 minutes to get the most basic groceries from the cornerstore. Preferably early so there are only a few people in the store if any. Quick in and out so nothing fancy.

So the basic image is that you kinda forgot to shower yesterday and your hair haven't seen shampoo and water in a week either and it's at the awkward length of not long enough but not even short anymore. The once rich midnight blue streaks are faded moss green and frankly the colour reminds you of goose poo so you just throw a cap on with some weird graphic design to hide most of it. You are in worn and beatup hiking boots, faded black jeans, black tshirt, black half zipped up hoodie and a leather jacket. Basically the first things you grabbed and half of them probably in need washing as well. So like ultimate quarantine/end-of-semester-student caveman setup. But who cares, you'll be back in 10 tops. And you put in your earphones without music just to dim out the world a bit, because why not.

And there is this two 14-16yo kids on a bench along your way drinking cola or some cheap energy drink and weirdly eyeing you. So you are getting uneasy so you pass them fairly quickly but after a few steps you overhear the following because they think you are listening to music so they don't keep it down:

Kid1: 'that a boy or a girl?

Kid2: Who cares? 'Looks cool.

And i was just like wtf? Do you have eyes kids? What the hell is wrong with you?? I get it i have a dude-vibe(according to someone i used to be friends with) sometimes, but still.. also i'm not cool, i'm tired and unwashed(i'm already working on to remedy that). That's really not cool. What's wrong with people👁_👁'

1. What’s the story behind your username? I wanted to be Ghost because at that point in my life I was a ghost. Also my heart-companion dog is named Boo, and it was partly a connection to him as well. Displacer because of the...high level of dissociation and... Not-me, Not-this, Not-here, Not-feel, Not-think, etc, that was necessary to get through life at that point.

2. Zodiac sign? Leo

3. What are you currently reading? (And/or watching?) Outlaw Red by Jim Kjelgaard (childhood fav about a show dog lost in the wilderness) and The Road Home by Ellen Emerson White (set during Vietnam War, about a nurse with PTSD struggling to deal with everything that’s happened to her, how it’s changed her, and oh yeah being in love with a smarmy asshole grunt she travels halfway across the country to surprise visit. 10/10, highly recommend. Her inner voice/attitude is sooooo very Roxanne. Also the writing style was highly influential to my own writing and I revisit this book to refresh that occasionally.)

7. What was the last dream you had (that you can remember)? Set and I were dog sitting for our neighbors and their dogs kept running away and also there was like a hurricane or something happening.

9. What superpower do you wish you had? SHAPESHIFTING. Then I can be any and all animals at any time, and also DRAGON. Also dysphoria/dysmorphia.

10. What’s your favorite holiday? Christmas. It used to be the one I hated most (my family sucked hardcore) but now that I have Set, and their family, I love it. I love Set decorating the house, I love suffering through all the god-awful Christmas music, I love wearing gaudy Christmas sweaters, and oh my god do I love buying presents for Set.

13. What stories were most influential on you? Code: Safeword changed my life in every single way and if I ever wrote an autobiography it would be BDSM Tentacle Porn Fanfiction Saved My Life. It gave me perspective, courage, it gave me Set. Pro-fic would be Robin Mckinley’s Hero and the Crown. Read it when I was in elementary school. Never identified harder with a character in my life.

15. If you could be an animal, what would you want to be? Orca whale

16. What’s your favorite poem? I love a lot of poems. Everything by e. e. cummings. Walt Whitman’s “To A Stranger” hurts my heart and I wanna get it done up with art and framed because of how much it reminds me of me and Set. Soré Agbaje’s "I Was Born" is gutting for childhood trauma/growing-up-feels reasons.

1.)  Charade, 1963

The best Hitchcock film he never made, they say.  Super fun, witty and intriguing murder mystery with two classic Hollywood icons. 

2.)  Labyrinth, 1986

Jim Henson puppets, 80s camp, and David Bowie in skin-tight pants.  What more could you want?

3.)  The Crow, 1994

Came across the movie late one night on TV. Fell in love with its dark style and themes of death and loss.

4.)  Night at the Opera, 1935

Hands down, my favorite Marx Brothers film.  Hilarious and filled with beautiful opera music, it’s just that awesome!

5.)  The African Queen, 1951

Two Hollywood legends on a romantic, WW1 adventure in the wilds of Africa.  Could watch this movie over and over!

6.)  True Grit, 1969

My favorite Western of all time!  The characters and setting are all entertaining and if I ever get married, I want to dance to Glen Campbell’s song with my dad.

7.)  The Sheik, 1921

Yes, I have very old tastes, shut up!  It may be almost 100 years old, but Rudolph Valentino’s talent and sex appeal is immortal!

8.)  Sky West and Crooked, 1965

An odd but very charming film about arrested development. Absolutely swoon over a young Ian McShane!  It’s also known as Gypsy Girl in the US.

Yes. Working in the food industry makes it challenging to work from home, especially if you're not sure you’re a carrier or not.

Spouse and doggo. Although, fun fact, dogs can have allergies too :D found that out recently as a nice random surprise since he’s cooped up with us. Now he’s on roids lmfao.

Are you a homebody?

I’m a no-body. I prefer to be places where others are not. Home, beach, park, library.

Because it was my drunk argument a couple nights ago, Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Maybe saw Terminal more recently?

An event you were looking for that got canceled?

Not yet; it was pretty surreal having gone to The Rodeo to see NCT 127 and then wake up the next morning to news of it having shut down for the first time in over 80 years. Although I am sad I can’t go to Pride for my birthday this year :(

What music are you listening to?

I woke up to Young Folks by Peter Bjorn and John, although I wish it was Amsterdam.

What are you reading?

I finally got to my Dean Koontz books. I’m playing a drinking game where if the main character is somehow set for life should an inconvenience occur, anywhere he gets overly descriptive of a setting, mentions ball cancer or pulls out a gun you gotta take a shot. If the gun is a Smith & Wesson, chug.

What are you doing for self care?

I mean, besides how I already care for myself? I dunno, more body scubs? I already yoga and meditate, read fics, bake here and there. Definitely have been clearing out my “read later” cache.

Re theater / musical licenses: Marvel's not doing anything differently. Both my kids ran US high school tech crew and schools must buy rights to whatever is performed. Tho Disney does NOT MESS around - for example had strict rules re promotional art for "Beauty & The Beast." Kid1 drew Belle and Beast sweeping up stage as a congrats ad for Kid2, and it looked TOO much like the Disney characters that school staff wouldn't run it in program fearing copyright infringement.

I see the site has suggested stage/set art up now. It would be interesting to see what the license has to say about imagery used for promo posters...
