I am way over tired but I cannot sleep until I word vomit about Nami and Arlong Park

(I can't promise this makes sense)

Just, God I love Nami so much and I feel like she is so under appreciated in fandom and in canon.

I've been rewatching one piece and when that scene happens I just cried.

Just her walls finally breaking after everything and her exhaustion. The flip from telling them she hates all of them to breaking down because she is heartbroken. She finally had friends, people who would support her and love her truly and she was forced to give up the one thing she has been so desperate for for the good of others

She is so smart and so brave. Thinking on the spot how to keep the crew safe, alive, and away from Arlong while not blowing her cover. She hasn't cared for anyone like this for so long. It's always just been about her home, her village, the people in it, and her sister. Even than they didn't actually support her.

She is just so desperate to not show her hand and ruin everything, but to protect those idiots. Her being torn between feeling anger and frustration that they came after her, and feeling deep heart aching joy at the fact that they actually came after her.

Arlong steals her money and she has nothing left to give, the end was so close and it was snatched away from her. She can never have friends. She can never escape. She’s literally at her wits fucking end everything has gone as terribly as possible.

She goes from anger to such a weak cry for help, and Luffy, not even knowing anything that has gone on with her, trusts her with his most precious thing and promises to save her.

God how that must have hurt in such a unique way.

The fact that it got to that point too, cause she is such a strong person due to trauma and circumstance. Her cry for help almost seemed to escape out of her after years of being silenced. Subconsciously she didn't even expect anything to come from it because no one in this world trusts her after what she has done because she had to. It breaks her a bit every time cause that isn't who she wants to be.

The fact that her weak cry was answered must have meant more than anyone could even understand. Nami knows the importance of trust because she has broken it for some many people. She has almost given up on it. And on top of everything, knowing not only did he believe her and vow to save her, he gave her his most precious thing to prove how serious he was. To prove his vow.

All of them step up once they understand and are willing to be there no further questions. She isn't ignored, or dismissed, or insulted, or questioned. She is loved and understood

After everything she did, after all this time, she was still given this deep trust wrapped in kindness and Nami KNOWS how rare that is.
