omegle shut down/fandom rp

Hello strangers, I too have been roleplaying and writing fascinating stories with people I don't even know for 10+ years. I'm devastated but I'm not willing to lose this battle We need to continue roleplaying, we can't lose this creative and emotional outlet. I was actively IN an rp when the site started to die. We held on for a long time after everything shut down, but eventually let go. We watched the numbers drop from over 30k, down to 1k, and then to....0. That 0+ in the top corner is a harrowing sight.

This is going to be absolutely devastating for so many people. I am autistic and having omegle as a place to go to unwind and just search for rps without feeling the pressure of being KNOWN while doing it is something that I don't think many sites will be able to recreate.

Regardless, Omegle will be missed, and will be mourned.

Everyone who used to roleplay on Omegle, give rolechat a try. It's similar to Omegle where you can type in interests and meet people who are into the same thing. You have to put a "name" in, but you can honestly use everything. It's almost identical to Omegle's setup.

It doesn't have a whole lot of people on it right now, so smaller tags don't have too many people. But if we get enough people using it, I think it has a fighting chance for being a good alternative to Omegle. At least until something better can come out of it.

This feels ridiculous and embarrassing to admit, but I can't admit this anywhere else, so I need to revive this blog for a minute to vent.

I feel so depressed that Omegle's gone. For me, it was such an integral part of my fandom life - I felt like I'd literally die if I couldn't somehow pretend that I inhabit the worlds that I'd come to so intensely love, whether the source material is from a book, a show, a movie, a comic... and combined with how much I love creative writing, written roleplays were perfect.

I didn't realize how much I'd integrating roleplaying into my little routines until I found out that avenue was permanently closed today.

It's so stupid. I know life goes on, it's a new beginning, at least I had this for nearly a decade and I still have 3 active roleplays going that originated from Omegle, blah blah blah.

It just feels like there's less of an escape from real life - I don't want to have to go back to only reading/writing fanfictions and having a fandom-centric tumblr.

This all sounds so whiney and not how I meant it to come off; sorry about that.

I'm just sitting here wondering what to do with my life now as I grieve that part of my fandom life (again, yes. I know: life goes on. It'll be fine. I'll be fine).

I don't know. I know things like RPNation exist, but it just doesn't hit the same; I don't want to feel like I have to go online fishing in the hopes that I might get lucky and get a decent rp partner.

It always felt like as long as I could mentally disappear into my favorite worlds for a while, everything would be okay. And now that this big emotional crutch is gone, I'm just floundering and panicking.

Which, again, is so ridiculous and embarrassing to admit.

Just hoping that by venting a little and grieving publicly at my own expense, maybe it'll be easier to move on.

And you can make an account if you want to continue RPs. It also seems to have a blocking system. Have a look.

It's been a long time since I've been on tumblr. For the last few years, most of the ways I've engaged in fandom has been through roleplaying on omegle. Now that omegle no longer exists, I don't really know where to go. I'm hoping to find a few people to roleplay with either here or on another platform.

I'm 27 years old, nonbinary. I've been roleplaying on for 12 or 13 years predominantly through omegle and email. I like hurt/comfort and cozy vibes for the most part lately, but am not necessarily limited to that.

I'm going to work on making this blog something, I'm just not sure what yet. I don't want to be a blank profile forever.

random question, but when you guys do your rp thing on here, do you feel like you’re telling a story about your characters, or pretending to be your characters?

me personally, i feel like i’m telling stories when i rp on tumblr, but i feel like i’m pretending to be when i do tabletop or play video games, which is a weird distinction but definitely a real one in my head for some reason
