#Or how Odysseus is the villian

I was wondering since you really like Troy are there any characters you wouldn’t write for… I know you were quite on board for my modern Paris story idea…..so I’m guessing no Agamemnon or Menalaus?
This is a hard question cause, actually, I enjoy writing for pretty much every character of the film.
In the case of the villian brothers ( in the original story they weren't, but in the film they are villians of a kinda cartoonish demeanour), I do love writing about them as antagonists. Like, i think a romantic plot would be very hard to come up with for me, but that doesn't mean i don't love writing about them.
They are very fun characters because of how unapologetically horrible they are. And like, they are horrible but they are in power so everyone else has to go along with it. Look at Hector having to pretend he is not horrified of Menelaus' behavior during the party scene in Sparta, or Odysseus' " this guy is insane" expression when Agamemnon says he will smash the entire army against the trojan wall untill breaking it.
They are such assholes that is fun, and i enjoy a lot their family dynamic.

2. And 18. For the quarantine asks
2. Tell me a random fact about yourself.
I feel like I have a lot of random facts but I always gravitate towards my odd jobs because I've worked a lot of them. Including at tiger sanctuary one summer where I got to butcher cows and paint with tigers! It was the summer after I was building basketball hoops inside of grocery stores.
18. What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
This is probably the hardest question on the entire list. I'm severely lactose intolerant, but like any intolerant person I eat dairy religiously lmao I love ice cream. If I had to say, though, it would Ben and Jerry's Phish Food

I am someone who believes that most stories would do better if there was a character (specifically protagonist) who just puts all of there points into charisma. Like, I love villains that are just Manipulative Bastards (like MCD Zane, brilliant character and villian. A dick, but well written), but honest to god having protagonists doing those things is equally as awesome to me.
And there’s also kinda this thing with Oscar ending up giving characters morality crises (I specifically saw on thing with Neo and Cinder as like a ‘what if Neo and Cinder ended up kidnapping Oscar but he just ends up giving them a morality crises) because baby. But then I thought, okay that, but more on purpose. Like specifically trying to get people to have morality crises or just not kill him.
So of course I put two and two together, and ended creating a list of reasons I think it makes sense for Oscar to be the kind of character with all point into charisma and such.
1) It fits his actually character so far.
Oscar from what we’ve seen always tends to try talking over nearly any other plan. In V5 he got Ruby to kinda open up a bit. Durning his fight with Hazel in V5 after learning Hazel’s story he tries to convince Hazel to move on and not blame anyone other then his sister for it (“did she know the risks?”). V6 he tried talking to Jaune after the group told JNR about Salem. And in V7, while everyone else was either fighting someone or trying to get to safety, he went to talk to and convince Ironwood to stop what he’s doing. There have been quite a few times where this tactic has failed, but the point still being it’s what he nearly always defaults to. Talk and convince other as opposed to jumping to punching them. Also, in V7 when everything was kinda falling apart in Atlas while they were at the party and James was panicking because the plan was falling apart, Oscar was the one to help James realize (maybe even help come up with a plan) that this isn’t as bad as it seems and that they can turn in around. This isn’t just plain optimism, this is taking the scene and finding a way to make in work in your favor. Which I’m sure is something that will come real handy soon. On that note, since (I’m like 90% sure) we’re out of act two and into act three, things will start to look up a bit more for our protagonists. And by most means they are in a very bad situation right about now. But as we’ve seen, bad situations can be turned good in you think right.
1.5) Also, he’s not the best fighter. And he knows this. In volumn six he specifically comes into the ship with Maria to help by watching from above. He doesn’t work well by being in the front lines, and he knows that. Besides this group needs someone who can deal with, ya know, people and most of them not really seem to fill that role quite that best (I know ruby can deliver her speeches in moments if need, but could she handle a professional meeting or discussion? I think not).
2) It’s not a typical story path.
These traits of making situations work better for you and convincing other to do things you’d like (ie.dont kill me) tend to be traits more given to villains as opposed to heroes. Think about it. How many villain to you know that manipulated and cunning compared to heroes. Not much in this day and age. But RWBY has done this kind of thing before. Take Ruby for example. Just looking at her we see dark colors, a cloak, a not typical hero weapon. But then we meet her and? It’s a bouncy girl who loves weapons, loyal to her friends, and with a spark that just won’t go out. She does not seem like what we’d expect by just given her design. Oscar himself already does this to some degree. He is the actual definition of a chosen one protagonist. And yet he is not the protagonist at all, and honestly that makes this idea even more fun. As I said, this is a trait that villains tend to get. Chosen one heroes never really get this, they fight to cunning villain instead. So seeing that flipping of traits and breaking of tropes is wonderful to me, and I love it and I hope RWBY never stop doing it.
3) Greek Mythology:
There are two main kinds of heroes in Greek mythology (at least as we’ve been able to find and collect, mythology is Fucking Weird sometimes. Most times history and time don’t really help much). The prideful one, who gets destroyed by their own hubris and the cunning one. Salem falls very much into the first of those. She’s like a Bellerophon, trying to reach the gods but being struck down, or an Icarus flying to close to the sun. Oscar on the other hand seems to be a bit more like Odysseus, may not physically be the strongest, but damn he was smart enough to get out of many bad situations. Or Heracles who, despite what modern media tends to show him as, was really fricken smart. The dude managed to trick Atlas into taking the sky back by basically saying he’d take it back but then went “fun fact! I lied. Bye!”. He figured out how to take down enemies many thought were immortal though smarts and figuring out their weaknesses. He realized when he couldn’t physically do something, found a way to do it, and won some horse along the way. Ancient Greece really liked to say, Brawns won’t do you shit if you don’t have the brains to back then up, and even when as far to go with that brains were more important then brawns at points. Also, remember that story with Atlas and Heracles I just told you? Well I mean they are in Atlas and they need to find some shiny relics...
4) There will be no victory in strength:
One of the main themes in RWBY is how you can’t just fight your way out of everything. Now the main group hasn’t quite realized this yet, hence why they were so upset about the Salem thing. But Oscar is the epitome of this idea. He doesn’t go straight to fighting the majority of the time, and tries to talk with people and convince them to change. Now I’m not saying he should try that with Salem, I highly doubt that’ll work, but honestly it would probably work with most of the other antagonists in the series. (“I don’t need to be able to beat you in a fight, I just need to be able to convince you to fight someone else”).
5) Plans
Honestly, quite a few of the groups in RWBY are not the best planners. The protagonists a) tend to only think about what to do immediately and b) go to fighting first. They also don’t really back up plans, just kinda wing it of plan A doesn’t work. Ironwood is very rigid in his plans, both as not being able to deal well is the plan fails, and in letting other people bring up other ways to handle something. But as I say earlier, Oscar was the one to convince Ironwood that not all hope was lost and that new plans can be made out if the ashes of the old one. It’s sort of a “think ten steps ahead, but also look out for any opening and play with the hand you’re dealt” kind of thing. Because taking chances when you see that and bending a situation to fit what you need is very much a more manipulative move, but also can be very helpful. Especially is current plans are failing. Or everything is very very bad at the moment. And Oscar is the only we’ve really seen to something like that. Everyone else just tends to find a way that works and just stick with it, not really making room to be flexible. Flexibility is important you guys.
6) Possible Semblance:
I think one thing most of us all agree on is that there is no way that Oscar can just be holding in all of his emotions and just, like, be fully mentally ok at this point in time (okay honestly none if the kids are) and I at least would like for him to just snap. And I think a main part of that will be not having people listen to him (ie. James just shooting him instead of listen to what he had to say) and not being seen as himself and who he is. And we know that Semblances tend to relfect in a person. With all that being said, there is a power that could manage to not only hit that current issues Oscar’s having mentally, but also with the while ‘convincing others’ part. Glamour. Now I might be the only one that read about this because of what I’ve found online, but Fae Glamour, as well as being able to make you look different, can also ness with peoples brains a bit. Just like, some making you believe something different here, some changing if your perspective on reality there ya know? Oh if you’ve ever read the series, The Invisible Library (I recommend you do if you like fantasy, the multiverse, fae, dragons, etc.), the librarians in that have the ability to make this to things, the farther from what it’s normally be like the more effort it takes. Kinda like that. This also ties in with Oz general Fae-like thing. I’m not joking he’s very much like a Fae. (This would also tie into my next point woo transitions).
7) Conflict:
As has been said before, these sorts of things are not usually hero traits. And there are definitely people on the group who may not be the most okay with someone doing things that aren’t fully morally right all the time and that could very well cause some issues. Issue that is even occur would probably be dealt with in a more timely manor but still. (Also the FNDM might not like it as much as well, cause no one seems to understand that morality isn’t just black and white).
I think that’s all? I might end up adding more is I remember or think of it. Well thanks for surviving my ramble if you did read it all

I like that idea! Yes, let's kick whoever's ass😍💃🏻😂
Joke's on you, I already had that curse, too😂😂😏
Ohh, yess 😍 Unpredictability and a menchant for trouble, gotta love a good anti-hero/villian/sociopath/psychopath😉😂
Yup, same🙈
😖😫 Sleep's important😭
Ohh, I'll check it out later than😍 The title sounds cool tho!😁 And lol, yeah, very useful🤔
Hmm, not sure, I mean, their canon selves would work, too, but making them a twisted version of a fairy tale sounds really cool, too🤔🤔😍🙈 And there are so many tales to choose from, like they could be Flynn&Rapunzel or Pirates or Princes(s) or ohh a version of PotC's Will and Elizabeth or ohhh do you know Hans Christian Anderson's "The Snow Queen"? Kara could be the girl who's searching for her friend/love and Mon could be the boy who got infected by the mirror or something🤔🤔 It would need a cool twist tho (like they did with Peter Pan being the bad guy)🤔 Or Ohhh, one could even combine stuff (kinda like Rumplestilskin also being the Beast)🤔😍🙈
Yess, best cousins forever😍😍💃🏻💃🏻😉😂
Yeah, well, I've been told it's romance, so I wouldn't watch or read it anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️😅 Ohhh, a Regency AU?😱😍 Tell me more!
...Sorry, I should have clarified: I meant more duets WITH her husband😂😂🙈🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
Yuup and Yeah, their love really got screwed with...😖😫
Well, depends on how you define "know"😅 I mean, I recognize that particular song's chorus, so I have heard it before (don't even ask me where, I am shit at remembering the names of songs or their singers or even where I have heard the songs😅🙈), but I wouldn't have known the song just by reading the name and I have no idea if I know any of their other songs🙈😅 (But ohhhh, WHAT?!?! A pic-set of Kara as Penelope and Mon as Odysseus?!?😍😍😍😱😱😍😍)
Ehh, pretty sure I have watched Top Gun, but it's SO long ago, I don't remember anything about it, sorry😅🙈🤷🏻‍♀️
Yo, don't stress😁
Ehm, well, yes, in the show's finale she proposed to him if I remember correctly🤔 But the show ended there, so that's it🙈 BUT, funnily enough both actors played a married couple together in Warehouse13 (which has has Crossovers with Eureka), so it's like we saw their Alternate Universe selves married already😍😂
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA niceee, THAT Sounds like it'll be awesome for us and the chaos duo and absolutely terrifying for poor Kara (meh, just gotta deal with it😉) 😍😍😂😂
You too!☺
XXX
COME AT US BRO!
HOPE IT WILL GET YOU HARDER! HA!
Yep, more well crafted and complex characters, amen.
Flynn&Rapunzel fanonically fits them like a glow xD Pirate and Princess? Who would be princess here? xD Interesting idea, i think in the canon they were brother and sister, tho, and i don't think I could unsee that xD I had an idea once, that he was the knight who went searching for a princess imprisoned by a dragon. And when he came into teh cave he saw the Princess aka Lena, scolding the big golden dragon, who was somehow enslaved by the princess magic and forced to kill the knights and other people to gather their gold, jewels etc. Mon-El maybe not kills, but hits Lena head and frees the dragon who turns into a girl aka Kara. They escape together and.. no idea what else xD
Yes, it's, how i call it, RAGING romance.
Well I have a few ideas.
Mon cames back from some abroad war (in colonies?), while being considered as dead. His fortune kind of ruined, his parents and older brother dead etc. While Kara's desparate to avoid clutches of some asshole, horrible lord. So she comes to Mon adn asks him to marry her, because he needs money and she needs protection (her father is dead, dunno).
He is part of secret intelligence on some very important secret mission and on some ball, in the library is attacked by two assasins. He fights back but is almost killed, while suddenly one of them is hit in the head by Kara with a fire poker - she was hidding in the library because she hates balls. Anyway, becasue of that she is thrown into the whole big scheme and helps him but is also put in danger. So, day end kindapped, had to spent whole night alone in some remote place. Nothing happens but she is compromised. And because her status is not so good (her parents are dead, she doesn't have money, she is sustained by her uncle who is NOT happy about it all). Also, Mon-el is engaged to Miss Imra Arden, but the first thing he does when they come back, he ends the relationship with her and asks Kara to marry him. She of course refuses, because, she doesn't want him to marry her because obligation, even if it means she stays compromised and with no chances for marriage. And i have thet nice scene in my head, where he comes to her place, while Jeremiah bascially screams at her for the shame she put on their name (they know Mon is engaged to Imra who is high and mighty and it seems they are in love blah blah,). He asks them if he can talk to Kara in private, he asks her to marry him, she says no while rambling about Imra etc, he rolls his eyes, cups her face in his hands kissed her to shut her up and says he broke up with imra, because she is the one who he loves and he loves her since she hit the assasin's head. She agrees and I have no other ideas what next, lol
Dunno, making them child enemies but when they meet years later, spark flies?
Ok, that explains a lot. Kind of think you have heard it in some anime fan vid xD
Ok, ok, personally i have seen this movie like 10 times because they love to play it in the tv here and I liked the soundtrack very much.
...now you gave me empty hope for MW playing married couple somewhere...
Can't wait for the next arc xD
Stay safe!

Circe - By Madeline Miller
Rating: 4/5 stars
Circe is a beautifully crafted retelling of Homer’s Odyssey (at least to a certain extent) that managed to shift a canonically considered villian into the tale of a strong, independent woman who doesn’t follow the usual rules of the game. In this book, Circe is no longer an evil witch but a gifted, clever and kind goddess whose only fault was her love for mortals. The book reads easily like a modern text should whilst still conveying the feel of an epic poem like the original Odyssey, furtherly portraying Circe as a legendary figure rather than a mere, obssesive antagonist to Odysseus.
The book begins with her birth into a family with little love and care for her, intoxicated in power and vanity. She grows to be a sweet young womandespite being raised by a group of people (parents and siblings alike) that seem to have come straight outof Regina George’s Plastics. Despite the extensive explanation of her morally dubious family tree, the mythological figures are all explained well and provided fair context, allowing the book to be both a fangirling experience for Greek mythology enthusiasts like myself and readers that know nothing about alike, making it surely very accessible.
The story is told from a first person POV (as probably noted in my previous posts I am not a big fan of first person POV) yet because of the epic poem feel, it works splendid as we get to run through some key elements of Greek mythology from an immortal’s perspective. Circe’s viewpoint and therefore thoughtsare great at highlighting how curious and kind natured she is, giving her way more depth than what we normally have from the Odyssey alone. Her bolder moves in the Odyssey are slowly built p to give contaxt, allowing us to see the story of a peculiar goddess who only seeked to be appreciated for who she is, rather than being belittled or used like it happens for most of the book. The book is definitely intresting as you begin to fall in love with how human Circe is, although it is quite a slow read and sometimes it may feel a little boring, especially when the descriptive passages become longer.
That is still contrasted by tense and emotion charged moments that are quite a roller coaster especially as we witness Circe grow into her power, or by more graphic scenes which could be considered taboo, or maybe a little gross or vivid, but it is after all a book about greek mythology which is universally known as a wild ride (and I love it for that reason exactly).
I do wish some parts of the book had been explored a little more, especially Circe’s bizarre relationship with Hermes which definitely had room for causing more drama or even to further highlight how odd these two immortals are. At the same time I really enjoyed how extensively her relationship with Odysseus was looked into and all it brought along, for both showing how she came to be who she was known for and for (FINALLY) highlighting how much of a terrible person Odysseus is (I’m really not a big fan of this “hero”).
This book is most definitely an emotional journey more so than an adventurous one, but never the less a beautiful tale that leaves us with a deeper understanding of what it means to be free and powerful, truly.

The Enemy of Me
This is the story The story of a man A mere mortal soul sent here to take on the world on his own The villian is my mind and the hero is me, call me T. You see, T is young and naive and he's led to believe that the world is his to conquer. Armed with his wits and his roots he plans to attack with the wind at his back as an army of one. he challenged the impossible, Moving through life as if he were unstoppable, until Mind found him. In the quietest whisper, almost too silent to be heard, Mind chimed in with more than a word. (M): you call yourself strong and feel your steps leave quakes, you walk as if every throne is yours to take. But who are you to take on the world? Better men than you have tried, but your ignorance coats you like you're perpetually living a lie. You're not the fastest or the strongest or the smartest or the tallest, your confidence is grandiose. Let's be honest, you have nothing to boast. You're average at best and that's being generous. When you look at you i don't see a thing. you're no warrior, you definitely won't be a king. But T was invincible, nothing could hurt him. Especially not words from a snake like M. T's voice boomed as he pounded his chest (T): I am the mighty T! don't you know there is nothing that can stop me? You speak of my assets or lack thereof as if I am unaware, but oh contrare. It's not successes that make the man its man that makes success. And as long as I am me I will always succeed. David was little but he slayed Goliath. You will not stop me M, not even in the slightest. T marched on ready to pierce anything in his path without hesitation. So headstrong yet still lacking a destination. That might be fine to T but That slippery serpent M chimed in again, this time a little bit louder, like a devil working on a whim (M): you move quickly, but where are you headed? Unlike a river You're rushing to a dead end. You mentioned Goliath as if he's iconic, but how ironic. You journey across the land in strides but like a giant you will be toppled by pride. Without a plan of attack your only option is to react, so I suggest you retract. Still unaffected, T scoffed at M's ignorant directive. (T): I am T! Can't you see? There is nothing that can best me. You speak but forget it's not the destination, but the journey we seek. Like Odysseus My story is an epic, traveling to unknown places. the story is told by the journey it takes us. However every hero has a downfall, even Achilles had a heel. T might have been strong, but not as much as he believed. After years of battles he was beaten and broken and brought to his knees. Of course that stupid snake M had his way. almost maniacal, he slithered up with more than a few things to say (M): Haha look at you now! The invincible almighty T beaten and brought to your knees. Your veil of ignorance finally unsheathed. What did I tell you, T? You should have listened to me (T): shut up (M): you're broken and weak and should Just give up. You had a good run but it's time to be done. (T): Shut up (M): accept your defeat and learn your place. Heed my warnings next time and maybe you'll learn how victory tastes. (T): SHUT UP! T slammed his fist against the ground as he finally let out his rage (T): SHUT UP YOU STUPID SNAKE! All you've ever done is fill me with self doubt and hate! Well it stops now, I won't take it anymore. They say a mind is a terrible thing to waste but you I'm starting to abhor. I admit i was naive in what I believed, but what winner hasn't lost and what loser won't win? No longer will I let you deter me from starting again. I will continue to fight I will not be undone. this loss does not define me like you say it does. You're right that this defeat weighs a ton, but I write my destiny, and I've only just begun.
