My Hero Academia Chapter 403: The End of an Era and The Beginning
It's been a while since I did this mainly due to being busy with Grad School (which I'm almost done with thank god). But, I don't think a chapter has gotten me this hyped since Shoto Todoroki: Rising and Ochako's chapter where she saves Toga. Since the chapter is officially released, I can scream, cry, and kick my feet with you all in these bullet points. God, I love My Hero Academia, y'all.
• First off, HOLY SHIT KATSUKI BAKUGO IS ALIVE!!!!!! Apparently, it has been over 400 days since he was initially killed and brought every Bakugo lover to their knees in tears including myself. I still remember leaks night when that happened and pretty much everyone was in mourning. Then leaks night happens for his revival and everyone is celebrating like it's the second coming of Christ or something and I'm with them!
• We all knew that Bakugo would come back to life once Edgeshot started surgery on his heart, but it was the way his resurrection would be executed that I was wondering about. I can see why the whole "Edgeshot suddenly sacrifices himself to save Bakugo" would lessen the impact of his "death", but I really don't care much anymore because the way Kohei Horikoshi brought Bakugo back was SO good!
• Think about it: All Might is on the brink of death in the hands of All For One. All the red flags are there including the flashback of baby Toshinori (SO CUTE BTW LOOK AT THAT BIG LAUGH🥺) and his mother (whom he absolutely inherited his hairstyle from) in this very chapter. Gentle wants to help save him, but he's focused on keeping UA in the air. Every pro hero, UA student, and the Big 3 are either severely injured, passed out, or too preoccupied with something else to take on AFO. And even Izuku Midoriya, his protege, is busy dealing with Tomura Shigaraki in order to prevent him from turning Japan into dust. The only other person who can possibly save All Might now is Bakugo despite probably still being seriously injured himself.
• And this is great for Bakugo because this is his chance to save All Might. Not only is All Might his idol and his hero, but he is also the man Bakugo truly believes he destroyed after being kidnapped in Kamino Ward. I still believe Bakugo hasn't truly forgiven himself for that yet and this would be his way of redeeming himself. This reason alone is why I don't think All Might will die in this final arc. And if he does, I will be devastated because I really want to see him survive until the end.
• I am going to conclude this by commenting on how incredible Horikoshi is not just as a writer but as an artist because holy shit he needed that 2 week break. We got an incredible WSJ-colored Cover Page, a chapter-colored cover page, and then 15 pages of peak fiction. Those final pages once it's revealed that Bakugo is alive will live in my head rent-free for the rest of my days. ESPECIALLY THOSE LAST TWO PAGES HOLY SHIT! THE FACES, THE TEARS, THE WAY TIME SUDDENLY STOPPED WHEN THEY LOOKED AT EACH OTHER 💚🧡 The way Horikoshi draws All Might, Bakugo, and Deku is astounding and makes me cry. Those are his adopted sons. Those boys are soulmates in some capacity whether you like it or not. It may be the end of All Might's era, but it's the beginning of a new era; a new generation of heroes with Deku and Bakugo taking the lead. I can't wait for next week!

I’ve had a ridiculous workload for the past few weeks, but that hasn’t stopped me from reading chapter 16!!
@naffeclipse I want you to know how much I was wailing at this one. Just how quickly the hunter went from referring to them as their “dear friend” to “the demonic cryptid.” And the little moments when they finally began to realize that cryptid isn’t entirely dissimilar from the person they’ve gotten so close with… absolutely phenomenal!!
I’d say I’m at the edge of my seat after this, but I fell off that seat way back in episode four. Regardless, I cant fully articulate just how excited I am to see how things play out!!!

the chapter songs in Alan Wake 2,, flawless
#they deserve more love and discussion#saying this while also not knowing what to say other than they’re so fucking good#alan wake 2#i think it’s partially because poets of the fall’s tracks are iconic so of course they’re in the spotlight (as deserved)#but also the CHAPTER SONGS. them being made for a given chatacter(s) with the help of Sam lakes poetry#the changes with ‘this road’ by Poe with every Alan chapter. becoming more distorted and revealing lyrics and the spiral#the scratch song being 1) hilarious and 2) similar to Zane’s poetry in the aw1 arg#the emotion in superhero when saga feels lost at the story making it so Logan was gone#the lines of her feeling like a ghost in this story forming around her.. how she feels guilty and absent for both what the story’s doing#and being away from Logan because of her job. ashdhhhhjhh my heart#AND. follow you into the dark HAS to be alice. which kills me because at for at I thought of Alan#but no. Alice jumped in the dark place after him. it’s so !!!!!!!!!!!#the rabbit hole line. Alice spiraling deeper and deeper into a dream—into wonderland#the Lost at Sea one is also good. intrigues me. the Bowie and Lynch references are blatantly aw2 Zane#but it’s so similar to diver Zane and the ‘originals’ death. being lost in the dark place with illusions of escape#and losing any sense of identity. whether he’s real at all or the monster of this sea or just a lost soul.#the soft and calm vocals / instrumental really makes the whole thing#NEED to stop typing more tags because this is a Lot. however.#‘no one left to love’ is also a phenomenal song and one of my favorites from the album. GORGEOUS vocals and how it all flows together.#such a powerful and beautiful way to end a chapter#anyway that’s all I had to say :)#god. I’ve started to watch a few playthroughs of the game and 90% of people have skipped the chapter songs and every time im#that’s fair but my brain and soul might implode if I don’t see anyone else talking about how good these songs are

“But how—” No more holding back. He was going to say exactly what he wanted to say to Eddie. Not doing so was what had led them here. Never again. “How do I know you’re not gonna take it all back?” Steve whispered. “Change your mind again.”
Somehow Eddie managed to make his already wide, doe eyes even more earnest. His expression was almost cartoonish.
“The only thing I’m ever taking back is all the bullshit I said to you,” Eddie said. “Those cruel, fucked up things. The lies.”

reading Mary Wollstonecraft's Maria, or The Wrongs of Woman bc i'm writing a paper on it for a class and jesus fucking christ i knew Wollstonecraft did not hold back at all in most cases and was very direct about her thoughts but my god this book is depressing as shit and really pointed criticism at just how much every system in society fails and traps women, literally and figuratively.

Just got my copy of Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites (Fluff and Fangs version), and there are so many good things I could say about it already, but I think the highest praise I can give @thebibliosphere is this:
I can open this book to any random page, read a single sentence, and immediately want to keep reading.

the curse of manga that don't just start off with a decent premise but actually get better as time goes on is that when they're first animated they are generally completely boring in comparison to the later stuff. this isn't the case so much nowadays with modern manga being mostly created off of cool premises and falling off but sometimes you get one and end up on your hands and knees going Come On Man Could You At Least Go With Some Hints At Future Plot Points

I finished chapter 15 of Cryptid Sightings last night and realized I may not have the time to draw for it, but I do have time to ramble about it. And oh boy do I have a lot to ramble about.
@naffeclipse, prepare yourself. I’ve been too scared to ramble on here for the most part, but today’s the day. Here are some things I’ve noticed/interpreted on the last chapter. No obligation to read all this, of course, because it is… a lot. Apologies for chunky paragraphs.
I. Originally, Sun/Moon thought it would be a mercy to leave their true nature out of the hunter’s field of vision. But now that they’ve seen the toll it’s taken on the hunter—how much harm half-truths and secrets can do—they see it more so as a detriment. They’re itching to tell the truth, because now, the hunter knows there’s a truth to be told—feels hurt because of the fact. And the guilt of hiding that truth from them is beginning to wear on the fear of them fleeing. At least in revealing their nature, they would have the ability to hope the hunter could understand. But where they both stand now is a cold war. Sun/Moon don’t know the full extent of what the hunter would do if they found out; would they cry, scream, lash out, accept? And the hunter, meanwhile, doesn’t know the full extent of the secret they keep, just how painful it will be to their ears. Both are kept in the dark, and both are caught in a disquieted stalemate. The moment the safety of secrecy drew blood, it was no longer a viable option.
II. The way the story is setting up to become, the reveal will be vastly different from what I previously thought—and vastly different from the one portrayed in the Lost Episode. In that reveal, it was a statement of, “so you are a demon.” But with this, it is instead a statement of, “so you are a demon.” In earlier chapters, the thought never occurred to the hunter that their friend could be a demon—at least, no thought that wasn’t immediately cast out as overly skeptical or ridiculous. The poltergeist’s odd words, the dark reflections in the water or their detector—they were puzzle pieces that the hunter never thought to put together, was never pushed to put together. But now, with Lambert openly accusing Sun/Moon of it, the hunter is forced to pay that idea mind. They’re now faced with a person who sees less ridiculousness in the notion that the animatronic is a demon and more ridiculousness in the hunter’s aversion to testing it, pouring more holy water or performing an exorcism. The hunter is forced to question whether or not their friend is a cryptid, something they never would have done had this time come sooner. The reveal that Sun/Moon is a demon will seem less of an off-the-wall shock, and more a confirmation of an already present fear.
III. With this new chapter, it is also becoming more and more apparent why the hunter hasn’t figured it out yet. Because it is only partially due to their inability to put together those puzzle pieces. For the most part, it is because they don’t want to. All the evidence is there: the odd behaviors of other cryptids, the detector, the mysterious substance leaking from metal sockets, the secrets. And all it would take to prove or disprove it would be a little bit of salt, or silver, or holy water. All it would take, as Lambert pointed out, is an exorcism. But the hunter would rather live in avoidance than risk the confirmation of that truth. They would prefer to live not knowing the truth than live knowing that is it. Because to the hunter, it is either that Sun/Moon are their friend, or they are a demon. To them, they could not be both—would not be both. So, while in avoidance, they instead use Sun/Moon’s kindness as evidence to disprove the notion that they are anything more than they’ve been led to believe. They think of their sweet words, their soft touches, the fact that they themself are still alive. They dread the possibility that their friend is a demon, because in their eyes, “friend” and “demon” are mutually exclusive. It’s either that Sun/Moon are are not a demon, or that they seek to manipulate the hunter. And they fear finding out which one is it.
Anyways. I could probably come up with more to say, but these are the things that have been bouncing around in my brain most. Thank you for listening to my incoherent ramblings!! It will probably happen again
