Faerghus’s Crest issues

Saw a really really bad take today.

Applying Adrestian reforms to Faerghus is about the stupidest thing you could do.

Yeah, Fareghans just aren’t ready to have those nasty freedoms shoved down their throats.

They are two completely different nations on two completely different levels with completely different issues.

Forcing Faerghan crest issues to fit into the Adrestian mold denies the actual issues of Faerghus and it’s crests.

Yeah, the issues of Faerghus and their Crests is they’re the actual hateful imperialists at play here and their Crests are the clubs they use to uphold that supremacy over their neighbors.

Adrestia awards crested people power mainly due to nepotism.

No, for starters Adrestia doesn’t have as many Crested nobles anymore - Ferdinand confirms this in an explore dialogue. It’s only Faerghus that’s so gung-ho about Crests that, according to Ingrid’s support with Shez, they’re so interbred that any noble family has a shot at have almost any Crest.

Adrestia awards positions of power through birthright because that’s how aristocracy works, son.

Faerghus awards crested people power because before Lambert, they needed crests to ensure they weren’t invaded by Sreng or Duscur.

Only Faerghus has such a crap army that they need the crutch of their Relics and Crests. Holst holds off Almyra just fine and he’s Crestless. The Empire’s weather foreign incursions from Dagda and they don’t have any Relics aside from the Refail Gem.

Then again, given Dimitri’s first thought for how to improve the military is to go invade the Empire or Alliance for more fertile lands, maybe it’s better if they lean on their inbreeding and their Crests.

To ignore that the necessity of crests in Faerghus is tangible is to misunderstand the core issue Faerghus has which is its foriegn relations are lacking.

Faerghus’s crap foreign relations seem to be Faerghus’s own fault.

Why do you think Kleiman, Rowe, Gideon, and Mateus killed Lambert when they did?

Maybe somebody from Duscur attacked them 400 years ago and they’re still mad about it because Faerghans will hold a grudge until judgement day?

When peace with Duscur became a reality the need for their crests disappeared and they feared losing their power over time as they were neded less.

Given Faerghus’s track record, once the issue with Duscur was resolved they’d look toward taking the rest of Sreng or maybe even Western Adrestia next. As demonstrated, they don’t need much in the way of good causes to come try and fuck your shit up.

Also it’s the EASTERN lords who stand to lose more through the de-emphasis of Crests; they have all the Relics!

Faerghus was making its own progress and it wasn’t until Cornelia, her ilk, and the western lords swayed by her words that it fell into decline.

Lol, nope!

Dimitri has no problem at all with Crests and Relics. He in fact thinks they’re necessary.

It’ll never cease to amaze me that the western lords of Faerghus are so power hungry compared to the eastern lords.

It’s the eastern lords who rolled up and stole half a country over a three centuries old grudge.

She wakes as she often does- later in the morning, the sun halfway to her high point in the center of the sky, and goes about her day as she always would- today is no different from yesterday, she will pray, she will go to class, she will help Manuela, she will meet with Edelgard and Kana and Nino; today was just as any other day. She follows her routines easily- pray, dress, brush hair, tie it (Emile’s ribbon today; she’s feeling nostalgic), put on boots, grab a shawl, and leave her room-

And the pattern is broken.

A simple box sits in front of her door, tied with a red silk ribbon. She breathes out, smile pulling at her lips- Edelgard must have decided to surprise her. She slips back into her dorm, gently opening the package.

It is not from Edelgard. 

Her chest goes tight, as does her throat as she stares at the contents of the box.

Inside, laid neatly in a red fabric, is a necklace. It’s a gold chain, with 3 raw sapphire crystals spaced out around either side of the pendant- a crescent moon facing downwards, with polished sapphire inlaid in the thick portion of it. In the space where the moon would be dark there is a darkened yellow-grey material holding in place the crest stone of Lamine, a gold charm dangling behind it. 

There is no note to accompany the Rafail Gem, but she does not need one to know this came from Emile- the Baron kept the Relic when her mother and she had left. The Baron was dead. Emile would have received the Relic in his stead. 

With shaking hands, she lifts the necklace, and under her fingers it seems to stir, to shift as it begins to glow with a soft golden light. She feels sick. Her blood seems to react to the Relic in her hands, buzzing slightly, as if she were on the edge of going into shock, and her heart feels alive- you’re not supposed to feel your heart, she thinks offhandedly as her body seems to ache with the desire to hold it closer, to press it to her skin, to wear this... thing, vision seeming to turn to static on everything around her so she could only focus on the Gem.

She drops it back into the box, stumbling back as she desperately tries to catch her breath (had she been holding it while she held the Gem?) her skin, her heart, her blood seems to buzz and ache and long, and she leans one hand back to hold herself up against the wall, the other going to cover her mouth in an attempt to keep herself from vomiting she feels so sick, so wrong on every level.

She understands now why her mother always winced when she asked to touch this monstrosity of a necklace, why she tucked it far away from both her and Emile.

She takes a few minutes to let her blood settle, though the remnants of the buzzing feelings remain, and thankfully keeps herself from vomiting. Once she feels alright enough, she makes her way back over to the desk, shaky as she walks. She looks at the box, at the Rafail Gem itself, and wonders if this was a way for him to get back at her for leaving him behind. She wouldn’t blame him it it was.

But for now, she closes the box again with shaky hands, tucking it into the deepest part of her desk she could before hurrying out of her room.

She prays she never has to touch that monstrosity again for as long as she lives.

Hm, I was thinking along the lines of accident (maybe they and Winn's kid were messing with some weird stuff and the Karamel kiddos ended up in the past?) but a mix of both would be fun as well, like, imagine the kiddos accidently stumbling into the past and realizing that some details are horribly wrong (e.g., maybe that Robot was never supposed to show up originally and someone is messing with the timeline?) and need to get their parents back together if they don't want themselves and their (very happy, karamel-ly) future to vanish into nothing🤔🤔😅😂

Oh, I had a music fic idea in my head. Kara being kicked out of a girls pop band - thanks to Lobotomizer who is jealous of Kara's amazing vocal skills. And kara ends drunk in a bar where Eve finds her. Eve is a girflriend of Winn, who is manager of a symphonic power metal (don't mind my metal loving ass xD) band, where Mon-El is the lead guitarist. The main vocal of the bad kicked their asses and left the band just before they started touring with a new album and they are fucked if they don't find replaement. And well, none candidate is good enough and then Eve drags runken Kara to their place, they recognize a pop girl and are imediatelly NO FUCKING WAY, she is pissed off and screams and tehy are like... oh, she can scream.... Later Kara wakes up in her apartment, with aching head and some asshole knokicng to the door. It's Mon-El who came to take her to rehersal. What rehersal? He shows her a signed by her contract that makes her a part of the metal band, yay! And you can imagine the troubles along the way xD Thought about making Kara being taught by Cat Grant in the past, who was a classical vocal teacher and Cat being dissapointed when Lena asked Kara to join her band. And Kara really spreading her wings in the new position etc. And of course karamel bickering along the way, fans being super sceptical but warming up to her, because her vocal is amazing and karamel falling in love etc. Oh, and imagine Kara asking the badn what she should wear on the stage and they are like, dunno, wear whatever you want, and she wears some pink things xD and the crowd when they first sees her is like O.O and then she starts singing and all are floored.

Sorry for karamel ranting xD
