I have witnessed the Super Mario Bros Movie.
No spoilers... I can't give an unbiased opinion here.
I fucking loved that movie. For video game movies, it blows Sonic out of the water. And if I can be honest, I think the canon they served up here is miles better than what we get in the games. At least as far as mainline games go. They take some liberties with one characters backstory, but what they did change makes sense to me... however it does make some certain other characters a bit of a challenge to squeeze into later movies if they decide to go that route.
The characters were all very good. I think Peach is a little too much of a firecracker. I don't mean she's too capable, that's not at all what I'm saying, in fact, they handle her role in the movie perfectly and back up an opinion i've always had about Peach that spits in the face of everyone who calls her useless for getting kidnapped all the time... I just think they made her a bit smug and firey when that's really more of Daisy's thing. Peach will kick koopa ass but she'll do it with her pinky out clutching her parasol with an "oh did I win?" remark.
Toad is great, willing to throw down for his friends, not the coward many people think he is...
Can I be honest, I didn't hate Chris Pratt's Mario, it wasn't amazing but it didn't drag down the movie...
Donkey Kong was a bit of a Jock type character, which just kind of feels right for him, I know the DK gourmets at DK Vine will disagree, but it's always kind of been the vibe I got from the character ever since his reintroduction to the world by Rare.
Cranky was not quite what I wanted Cranky to be, but it works more for the type of character he is. He is a King in this movie. He's not an old codger that gives advice and makes fun of DK and Diddy.
Spike.... had like 5 minutes of screen time, I don't know why they bothered announcing his voice actor at all, but I'm still glad he's here... he looks WAY different than I was expecting, but at least they didn't take inspiration from Wrecking Crew 98.
I can go on and on...
There was two post credits, the first one was just a silly ha-ha thing, but the second one has implications for the next movie they're planning, and it can mean one of two things. A certain character who doesn't feature in this movie is getting their own movie, or, a certain character who doesn't feature in this movie is going to be heavily featured in the next movie. It was honestly kind of disappointing, all I can say is most of the speculators were wrong... and I actually was right, but not in the way I expected to be. In fact, this movie just threw my prediction out the window with the backstory change they made.
One thing that did put a big frown on my face was the credits...
This is the one spoiler that twitter and Seth Rogan already spoiled, but the DK Rap showed up in the movie. They actually used a non-remix, so right from the N64 game... All the songs in the movie got their proper credits.... EXCEPT FOR THAT ONE. I actually saw Grant Kirkhope upset on twitter about this, so I thought they actually just forgot to put it in the credits at all, but no, it's there... "DK 64 - The DK Rap" ...and that's it, they don't mention Grant Kirkhope at all. That os fucked up, and I think we fans have a duty to let Illumination know... I was hoping Grant would provide music for a potential Donkey Kong movie, but now they may have burned a serious bridge here.
Anyway...
If you like Mario, especially if you're a long time fan, go see this movie. It's really good.
That said, it doesn't do anything revolutionary in the story telling, so if you don't like Mario that much, it will just be an okay family movie. I can safely say it blew Sonic 2 out of the water.

My top 5 albums/eps for 2023
So it has come to the end of the year again, and despite now having been burnt twice doing this list before the last day of December only to listen to albums that should have made them within the year (Evermore and SOS, you will always be famous lmao), I'm ready to put out my top 5 albums/EPs that were released in 2023. And before anyone asks, no, rerecordings do not count and will not be considered for this list (sorry Taylor and Demi), same with deluxe versions (sorry Noah). So without further adieu, here are my top 5 albums/EPs for 2023.
5. The Age of Pleasure – Janelle Monae.
Following up Dirty Computer was always going to be a challenge. For those who haven't listened to Dirty Computer, I would literally call it one of the best albums of all time. And, at least for me, there's been a pattern with all artists where once they release an album I adore, I tend not to like the next one. But Janelle well and truly rose to the occasion. Much like Dirty Computer, I felt like I was transported to a different time and place listening to The Age of Pleasure. Each song is strong on it's own yet works so well together but are all different and distinguished enough to be memorable. Unfortunately I feel like as a whole this album did not get the hype that it deserved, but I am hoping that its AOTY grammy nomination will help give it that chance for more people to listen to it. All in all, the only, very subjective, reason that this album was not higher is because it's personally not relatable to me, and that's a major reason I listen to music. Like I said though, that is very subjective, and not at all a comment about its quality.
Favourite Song: Champagne Shit.
4. Guts – Olivia Rodrigo.
I'm just going to say it upfront, this album was too hated on just because it wasn't Sour and over weirdo rumours. Like do I think it'll be my favourite album of all time? No. But neither was Sour and Guts does just a good a job at being the perfect teenage album. And I say that in the most affectionate light because I think it is an art to capture an age like that. At the current time, Sour and Guts flip flop as my favourite Olivia project, and realistically, had I had Guts when I was closer to Olivia's age (rather than nearly a decade older), I think Guts would have taken the cake easily. It's relatable and unfortunately still socially relevant given its topics of age gaps in relationships, the way the music industry treats young female artists, and the guilt and shame that come from both of those. Likewise, its commentary on honesty about who you are and what you feel compared to what others want (extending as far as into the bonus track Scared of My Guitar) is a relatable and interesting theme throughout the album. As a whole, Olivia well and truly defied the sophomore album dip for me and I cannot wait to see what she does in the future (hopefully including an Australian tour lmao).
Favourite Song: The Grudge.
3. The Good Witch – Maisie Peters.
I'll say it outright, if this had come out in 2018/2019 (when I was 22 to 24 years old), it would have well and truly been my number one pick of the year and probably joined the ranks of albums like RED and Melodrama that define the year they were released for me just by being released right when I needed them. Even now with the distance of several years, I still think of the same person I would have then when listening to most of the songs on this album; I just get the benefit of being able to laugh along to the songs rather than be sad. Admittedly, it took a few listens, both with the standard and deluxe version to fully feel this album as a cohesive project (ironically You Signed Up For This, Maisie's first [non soundtrack] album, was too sonically cohesive for me to the point I prefer to listen to the songs on their own and The Good Witch initially felt not sonically cohesive enough), but once it hit, it hit. I remember my first listen and hearing There It Goes for the first time and having a quiet moment of judgement thinking that the wrong song was picked for the closer because how was it going to top There It Goes as a statement piece for the album... I was quickly proven wrong as History of Man started to play and I realised that not only was this the perfect closer, but objectively one of the best songs I've ever heard. So yes, as a whole, I think she made the right choices in terms of tracklist order and what was left on the deluxe. Additionally, jokingly I am grateful that we didn't have “you had a phone, you should have called” in 2018, for I would have acted irrationally lmao. Overall, after having seen Maisie live in February, this was one of my most anticipated albums of the year, and much like Olivia, Maisie has well and truly defied the sophomore album dip for me and I can see myself loving this album for years to come.
Favourite Song: There It Goes
2. This Is Why – Paramore.
Over the years, I've had a very up and down relationship with Paramore. I loved their earlier work, fell off with (read: only liked a few songs per album) their self titled album and never fully made my way back to them... until now. To me (and I believe the intent of the album was), this album is like the encompassment of being alive in 2023. It's tired, it's angry, it holds back and even resents “positive” emotion at times, but ultimately it is just very human and reflective of where the world is right now. Of all of my choices this year, This Is Why is absolutely the album that is most relatable to myself in this current moment. And, having a year where I came back to pop rock music in general, this album just came at an absolutely ideal time for me. Overall, it is the album I feel has the most potential for me to look back on and be like “yeah, this was 2023 for me”, and for that alone, it has earned its spot on my ranking. My only regret is that I unfortunately did not get to see this album played live on tour due to other things going on in my life... almost as if I ran out of time (pun intended).
Favourite song: Running Out Of Time.
Rolling Up The Welcome Mat – Kelsea Ballerini.
So some of you may have realised the title of this post is my top 5 albums AND EPS and have realised that there is a direct lack of extended plays spoken about so far. Well surprise! Before this year, the only Kelsea song I had heard was The Other Girl featuring Halsey, but she's someone who I have wanted to listen to for a while. So when I heard that she was releasing an extended play, I jumped straight in and fell in love. I've never been through a divorce, but the emotions and grief of losing a relationship (romantic or otherwise) that you feel you fought so hard to grasp onto despite knowing it wasn't working and feeling like the other person wasn't trying resonated so deeply with me. And much like The Good Witch, I think if I had had this ep in 2018, it would have been the album I felt sad to, and honestly? To a point where I may have avoided it because it hit too close to home. But instead, all of its tracks were my top streamed tracks with nothing breaking them up. Overall it is an exemplary, relatable piece of work to which my only complaint is that I cannot buy it on CD (sorry, not much of a streamer) and while I haven't had a chance to go listen to Kelsea's other stuff (sorry it's been a busy year), I cannot wait to see what else she has in store, both in her past discography and future projects.
Favourite song: Genuinely all of them, but if you're going to put a gun to my head, Mountain With A View.

1. Song of the year?
No End Summer by Toshiki Kadomatsu. It's become one of my all-time favourites.
4. Movie of the year?
My Own Private Idaho (1991). Just a really solid film, but I'm also thankful to it for introducing me to the song by the B-52's, which is a bop.
jk. it's Goncharov (1973)
5. TV show of the year?
I literally can't live without Mob Psycho 100. I re-watched it again before s3 and it's just. So amazing.
HOWEVER, I have to hand this one to Our Flag Means Death, because it came out this year and I also love that show so so much.
6. Episode of tv or webisode that defined the year for you?
Okay we are going to do a top 3 because you need to know which tv shows are changing my brain chemistry .

8. Game of the year?
Sonic Adventure DX, surprisingly. I played a demo version of it when I was younger, and this year I remembered really enjoying it, so I got the full game on steam and started playing sonic again! I'm not much of a gamer but if there's a game that I really like or really want to play then I'm likely to make an exception for it.
Playing the game again was fun, I actually really liked the graphics, and the music was on another level. Emerald coast will always be nostalgic for me, I think.

i kinda feel like self titled is the most like non offensive album because its not sonically challenging to listen to in any way and not quite as obviously dark as other albums?
Really?? I mean it’s got a song called sex that has the line “if we’re gonna do anything we might as well just fuck” and idk where anon is from but if their family knows that chocolate is a euphemism for weed they might be like whattt???? “Railing racket off a porcelain basin” though one of my favorite lines Matty’s ever written, would send mom into a coma. Though I must say, if anon isn’t British, there’s a good chance non of menswear will make sense to their family hahahaha.
But yeah I do like that ST gives the illusion of being dark but actually isn’t. And it’s pop-ish enough. People tend to enjoy robbers and stuff.

INDIE 5-0: 5 QUESTIONS WITH GRAZTOPIA
Tumblr media
Graztopia's musical approach blends together intricate layers of emotion and technique.
Fusing rock, folk, jazz blues and the innovative use of live looping and the “Mothership Pedalboard,” sets the stage for a unique sound experience.
A one man band, his latest EP “Beatnik Serenade at the Cup Coffee-house,” suggests an intimate and perhaps retro vibe, harking back to the Beatnik culture that embraced artistic expression in the coffeehouses of yesteryears. This choice of title could also be a nod to Graztopia’s desire to create a personal and authentic connection with his audience.
As Graztopia gets ready for a number of live shows and captivating audiences who are “ready to get away from it all”, we caught up with him to find out more:
Your music is often described as a unique blend of rock, folk, and jazz blues, and your live performances are known for their improvisation and soulful solos.
Can you tell us more about your musical influences and how you developed this distinctive style?
There are so many musical influences, too many to count, and even some that have an aesthetic influence as well. I listen to various genres of music and artists/bands from the whole history of music. So in some way, shape, or form all of those sounds are going to permeate into my songwriting psyche. Due to listening to such a vast and diverse body of music it made me want to play different styles/genres of music and even mix them together too within’ my songs.
But, probably the biggest influence on why I play/blend various styles of music together, never repeat the same setlist, and have improvisation as big part of the live show is because of jam-bands like the Grateful Dead, moe., Widespread Panic, Phish, etc…All of those bands and most jam bands for that matter, play almost every style of music, never play the same show twice, and they’ll jam/improvise throughout their live shows. And on top of all of that the scene and fan bases of those types of bands are fun and have fun/unique/hip people that are extremely passionate about the music.
All of the music that those types of bands play hit me in my archetypal center in such a way it naturally influenced some of the ways of how my live show operates. Mixing up set-lists especially if an artist has an ample amount of songs to do so, keeps things interesting for the audience and as well as the performer. It also lends itself to the element of surprise that can happen at any moment during a live show. Insofar as improvisation goes, music is a “movable art form” in the sense you can make any song sound any particular way or take the song on a musical journey to new sonic territories.  It is great fun taking a song on an improvised sonic ride to new places by stretching it out a bit.
By mixing all of those aspects together it makes each show it’s own unique experience. As a performer that can lead to a slightly slippery slope when pulling songs from a vast repertoire insofar as making musical or lyrical mistakes especially if it’s a song that hasn’t been played in a while or gets less rotational love in the set-lists. But, it also keeps me on my toes musically which is great fun and I’m up for the challenge.
You're not just a musician but also a philanthropist, actively participating in charitable events like Project Koda and supporting special needs children through the Challenger Baseball league.
How did you get involved in these causes, and how do you see the power of music in contributing to charitable efforts?
I wouldn’t go as far as calling me a philanthropist per se. I’m just a musician, who loves music, that loves playing music, and someone who loves to create art that makes any type of impact. The hippie guru, Mr. “Saint Misbehavin” himself Wavy Gravy has a great saying “put your good where it can do the most”.
I took great stock in that statement. So when asked to provide music for an event for a charity/non-profit organization that’s going to help people in need, I was happy to do so. For things like Project Koda, The Touhy Giving Foundation and the Challenger Baseball league events that I’ve played, I knew or am friends with the people who run those organizations so it was as simple as asking me to play and showing up for the gigs. One of the many magic powers of music is that is can be very healing. And sometimes that healing comes in the form of entertainment. Don’t forget what Wavy Gravy said “Put your good where it can do the most”
Your music finds a home in a variety of settings, from pro-cannabis events to coffeehouses, capturing a wide range of vibes. Could you share how you adapt your music to suit different audiences and environments?
The goal for any musician/performer is to have their music reach as many sets of ears as possible. By playing all sorts of venues, shows, events etc...eventually over time a musician/band/artist can find what places and audiences work best for their music. After playing music for many years, it more or less became a search to find venues/places where there were audiences that would suit my music. The last few years’ craft breweries have been the best spots to gig as well as coffeehouses and pro-cannabis events. Most people who go to craft breweries, smoke pot, go to coffeehouses or all of the above etc..usually tend to have open minds about experiencing or trying something new and all together different.
So with people and at places like that, my music tends to go over better. Though, I never adapt my music to any audience or environment. For my live shows I always do my thing and hopefully the people who are present for the performance enjoy it or not, just as long as there is some type of reaction. Audiences are perceptive, they can sense when a performer or a band is faking it. The only way I know how to perform/present my music is by doing it in the most authentic, passionate, unadulterated way possible. Playing live music for the people is the best.
Tumblr media
Your latest album, "Beatnik Serenade at The Cup Coffeehouse," showcases your versatility as a musician, with you playing every instrument. What inspired the creation of this album, and what can listeners expect from its genre-bending sound?
The inspiration for the creation of this album came from me having a plethora of songs and the need to get more music out. The title was inspired from a real place called “The Cup Coffeehouse” It’s still open for business and is located in Wantagh, NY. Go in and grab a cup of coffee and something to eat if your in that area.
I used to perform at The Cup regularly and hosted their open-mic for many years when they had live music there. The place has a very special place in my heart since I cut my musical teeth there in a way and logged many hours of fun in the establishment. Being that the songs on the album are acoustic versions and The Cup was a place where lots of acoustic music was played, it seemed appropriate to give the record that title. The cover artwork, which was done by my friend Paul Motosi, is a cartoon version of the actual layout of The Cup Coffeehouse with some artistic liberties taken of course. There’s even a little illustrated tribute to my friend Jay Reilly who is the guy smoking a cigarette leaning on the blue car on the cover.
Jay was a very talented musician/songwriter who used to perform at The Cup, was the previous open-mic host before handing it over to me, was someone I could always show one of my new songs to, and a friend of whom I miss. Insofar as playing all the instruments on the record that was merely done out of necessity and having some ability to be able to pull it off. Usually for every record I handle all of the guitars, bass, vocals, and some of the other instrumentation. Then I usually have my musician friends who play instruments that I do not play and/or do not play well to lend their musical talents to a song(s). For “Beatnik Serenade at The Cup Coffeehouse” that was not the case and I ended up doing the majority of the instrumentation on the record.
Though some of my friends did make an appearance(s) on the record, Dom Barranco who played some percussion and Jess DeBellis who played accordion on a couple tracks. Listeners can expect to go on a sonic journey through various genres of music and different sounds/noises over the duration of the album. The psychedelic sounding intros and outros kind of give a little taste of some of the ambient jams that can happen in between songs/segue songs together during a live show.
With your distinctive personality and layered music, you've carved out a unique niche in the New York City music scene. What's next for Graztopia, and how do you plan to continue pushing boundaries and exploring new musical horizons?
There’s lot’s of things on the horizon. I always plan on pushing boundaries on the constant journey and search for sound. For the year 2024, I’m planning on releasing 3 albums of music. I know that’s a very bold statement but there’s a lot of songs in the catalog that have to be recorded and released. One record is going to be all instrumental music and the other two will feature the acoustic versions of proper songs. Eventually the plan is to record albums that have electric full band versions of most of my songs some time in the future but let’s not get too far ahead. Being that I record all of my live shows there’s also plans in the works to start releasing live bootleg recordings via my bandcamp page. To give a little insight to the live bootlegs, there’s going to be two different series of them. “The Brewery Bootlegs” which will feature live versions of original songs that were performed at craft breweries and “Mistakes, Missteps, and Music” which will feature live versions of original songs performed at any type of venue or show. So please keep your ears to the ground and your eyes on the sky for more info on release dates of said music in the future. Or you can just go to my website and/or social media sites for that info as well.

INTERVIEW: Penelope Trappes.
Australian-born Brighton-based musician Penelope Trappes has shared a new single and accompanying short film directed by Agnes Haus, ‘Blood Moon,’ from her forthcoming album Penelope Three. The album will be released next Friday, May 28 on Houndstooth. Following singles ‘Fur & Feather’ and ‘Nervous,’ ‘Blood Moon’ is atmospheric and dreamlike; a song about repurposing the fear within.
"I consider the moon a temple, a mirror of our emotions,” elaborates Trappes. “The blood moon symbolically represents the beginning, the ending and a clean slate. ‘Blood Moon’ is about being uncompromisingly true to oneself despite societal expectations. Everyone should be free to express femininity in their own individual way. The burdens and expectations instilled in us at childhood weigh us down and hold us back. This song is about never giving in to this pressure and dismantling a system of oppression that is carried within our bodies. A metamorphosis." Commenting on the accompanying visual, she adds: "The short film ’Blood Moon’ is a modern take on the goddess Isis if she were around to face today’s world. Isis is the protector of women and children and the healer of the sick - but despite her powers, she would still be weighed down by societal expectations of what is expected of women."
We sat down with Penelope to discuss Penelope 3, being back on stage and what she has planned next. Read the full interview below.
Hi Penelope! How are you? How have you been coping with everything thats been happening this past year?
"Hello! I’m doing well, thanks. Keeping sane in a world gone a bit mad. I’m doing daily yoga and meditation, I’m vegan and very recently gluten-free, which has been great! I’m a bit of a bore with the health stuff...but I love taking care of my body. Also, after sometime of getting used to it, I am now embracing the slower pace of life, what with no travel, and less commuting places. It’s a bit like how I imagine things were in say Victorian times... but with internet."
You're gearing up to release your new album Penelope Three. In it you explore your metamorphosis through tales of motherhood, the divine feminine, anxiety, healing powers and their spiritual connections. What sparked the inspiration to write about these themes?
"I have always felt emotions deeply within my body, since I was a child, particularly ancestral trauma. I am not sure if there is a word for this, but it’s my reality and at times it has been quite hard to cope with. So as I have been going through a lot of physical changes in my own body in recent years, these have shifted and moved me on a much deeper level - emotionally and spiritually. On top of that there was the pending separation anxiety of my sole daughter leaving home, which turned out to be more emotional than I expected. Living overseas for all of my adult life has always been difficult in relation to my family back home in Australia.  My mother is getting older and more unwell, and with my not being able to visit her in Australia due to the pandemic, i had to dive deep to find coping mechanisms. All the imposed alone time and the isolation has led to a lot of introspection. I am thankful to be able to find healing in channeling these feelings through the power of writing."
Sonically, how is Penelope Three different (or similar) to your previous releases? Were there any musical influences or sounds that you were able to incorporate on this record that you hadn’t previously?
"For Penelope Three, I based most of the compositions around my voice and words telling more of a tale. In the past i chose to pause on that aspect of myself and let the space take the forefront. I also explored a few more elements of my voice that I had trained in when I first started doing music, including jazz, opera, and sacred music. It’s not to say this album doesn’t have space like the last two albums, it does, but perhaps the pieces might feel a little more like “songs” on this one."
What was the creative process like this time around? Did lockdown affect it at all?
"The album was actually finished before lockdown. I wish I could say I was creating music since the pandemic, but sadly no.  I was spending a lot of time during lockdown just trying to navigate life itself, though i did find the time to co-direct, film, and work on the visual side of Penelope Three. ‘Penelope Three’ actually falls into a strange world of before, during, and after. It has grown with the changing world. I think it sits well in all realms of past, present and future - which the visuals that accompany the album represent."
Tumblr media
What was your favourite part creating Penelope Three? And were there any parts you found particularly challenging?
"There were times during the initial creative process that I went way out there, right off on tangents. Sometimes quite dark. I really enjoyed exploring this side of me but sometimes it was a little bit too much. It was challenging to decide to put some of this off to the side and stay present in hope. I would say my favourite part of creating P3 was in making the final decision to embrace the many voices I carry within me, curating these into one cohesive album."
What do you hope fans will take away from the new album?
"Hopefully they have heard Penelope 1 and 2 and can feel the vision and the love now that I am at the end of the trilogy. Either way, a sense of strength versus vulnerability and the empowerment that comes from embracing both of these qualities is what I hope they find while listening."
You have some live dates lined up in September. I expect you’re excited to be back on stage. What have you missed the most about performing?
"I have missed sharing the music and the space with an audience. Those moments when you can hear a pin drop. Sharing these fragile moments together where anything could happen will be pure joy!"
Will there be any changes to your live show?
"I now have a cellist and keyboardist / backing vocalist on stage with me, two wonderful women, Maddie Cutter and Hinako Omori. The 3 of us sharing the stage together helps to communicate the elements of fragility and strength within P3.  It also frees me up to play guitar and really focus in on the vocals a bit more because in the past, I was multi-tasking on stage and had to rely on a holding down a lot of synths keys and chords the whole time."
Based on your musical journey so far, what’s been your biggest takeaway/piece of advice?
"Don’t ever stop creating no matter what family, friends or society tell you! Just keep evolving, changing and exploring everything that inspires you."
Finally, what else is next for you? Any non-musical goals?
"With Penelope Three, I have been working a lot on videos and I’m intending on exploring more aspects of filmmaking. I am particularly inspired by acting and the concept of story-telling and expressing all the emotions of life just through a delicate glance, the flick of the hand, or a tear. I am interested in telling tales with the body - with performance - but without music. I want to embrace the confrontational. I am also thinking a lot about musically what comes after this Trilogy. I have half of the music written already for a future album, but I just need to define what it’s all about before i continue on it."

25+ Album Covers That Should Be Made Into Funko Pops
Pop til you drop Funkoids, because black metal institution and number one threat to bats: Black Sabbath have joined the Funko Populous!  As a Music Fan, tune chaser, melody makers and connoisseur of pop and circumstance I  want to implore Funko Pop to take more risks. I know that Funko Pop is already greasing up the popper to churn out Nirvana Nevermind Babies funko or McFleetwood’s dangling Rumor orbs, but please consider some of these other iconic Album Covers. I don’t want to be caught dead or alive with a basic funko pop collection!
Let’s take a look at an album gallery of some classics and underground gems. In my deep dive through the towering Brian Wilson’s Ghost Archives I found that jazz has some of the best album covers around. Don’t be greedy Rock n Rollers!
////
Minutemen’s Double Nickel on The Dime - Mike Watt’s Rearview Window eyes
Tumblr media
2.  Cleveland Eaton’s Half and Half -  Winged Buffalo Deity
Tumblr media
3. Talk Talk’s The Party’s Over - Face Face
Tumblr media
R.I.P. Mark Hollis. Miss him all the time and what better way to remember him and his music’s legacy by a cheeky wink to their poppier heyday? ;)
4. Frank Ocean’s Blonde - Blondie
Tumblr media
What other Funko Pops could possibly carry themselves with this much dignity and grace? A lot of these Funkos could learn a thing or two from Frank and say more with less face.
5.  Supertramp’s Breakfast in America  - The OJ Waitress
Tumblr media
I know some of you NeoFunkophytes out there may only envision Funko Pop’s without mouths, but Funkos can pout and salivate and makes all sorts of faces now! So why not take advantage of this expanded emotional range by honoring the likeness of one of the most eager to please members of the American workforce? Looking forward to see what Laura Dern does with the role of the Supertramp Waitress in her upcoming one woman experience: Dern Tootin...basically an agonizing walk to say that the woman on this cover looks a lot like Laura Dern around the eyes.
6.Violent Femmes’  Mary Nohl’s Hallowed Ground Statue
Tumblr media
A Funko Pop sovereign for your twisted hillbilly goth kids  and non-ironic zealots in your life! Untapped Potential Market If There Ever Was One!
7. Iglooghost’s  Little Grids-  Mamu Garden Sprite
Tumblr media
8.  Barbara Streisand’s Encore - Leisurely Hotel Hostage
Tumblr media
Make sure you put all your kids to bed and tuck your pets inside their thrones, because what I’m about to tell you will be devastating! Can you believe that the Great Dame Babs does not have a her likeness of her image engravened and immortalized in Funko form? Let’s fix that with honoring the time our Funny Girl recorded a Willy Wonka duet with Seth Macfarlane.
9.  Raphael Saadiq’s Stine Rollin - The Whole Dang Crowd
Tumblr media
Tag yourself Funko Pop! style! I’m clearly the bee hive side eyeing queen.
10.  The Caretaker’s  An Empty Bliss Beyond This World  - Death Ball
Tumblr media
11.  the Horrors’ V -  Fleshies
Tumblr media
One huge problem I have with Funko Pop other than that they have been the driving factor in most of my divorces is that they only have one face. You buy a Funko pop you get the single face the Funko pop comes with. Show a little faith and save your wallet for a Funko Pop made up of many faces!
12. The Weather Report - Heavy Weather - The Flasher
Tumblr media
How doesn’t this slick Weather peeper not have an entire franchise that get’s canceled and reboots that are kicked around various networks but never really sticks. Today’s forecast Funko Pop fever is here to stay no matter how many other idols and icons protest against them
13. Dee D. Jackson’s Cosmic Curves - Disco Fingers Jackson
Tumblr media
Some heroes wear capes, but my heroes wear capes and have disco fingers.
14. Deerhoof’s Milk Man -Titular Milk Man
Tumblr media
15. Lou Reed’s Ecstasy
Tumblr media
Another musical legend that is missing from the pantheon of Funko Poppers needing proper representation.
16. oxy Music For Your Pleasure  - Pleasure Panther
Tumblr media
17.  Vampire Weekend Contra  - Karen
Tumblr media
Break out the legal team Vampy Weekend because we’re taking the Contra lady to court to get her turned into a Funko Pop.
18.  Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs -  Blurry Early
Tumblr media
Is my vision failing? Am I dying?! No! It’s just my new Some Rap Songs blurry Earl funko pop
19.  Tyler, The Creator’s Flower Boy Flower Man
Tumblr media
You knew this one was coming. If you’re surprised then you better be asleep behind the wheel.
20.  Devo’s Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo’s  Bizzaro Juan Chi-Chi Rogers
Tumblr media
You would have thought the good people of Everett Washington would have been saturated in Devo Funkos, but no! I do agree that making a standard energry dome wearing Mothersbaugh would be too obvious, too safe. Q: Are we not timeless pop culture artificats? A: We Are Funko!
21. Sonic Youth’s EVOL - Lung Leg
Tumblr media
Evol is represents an eras where the Youths were starting to going Pop! Take this idea and run it on the expressway to yr skull!
22.  Grime’s Art Angels - Art Angel
Tumblr media
Sentient manic pixie Canadian c apparently really despises this album. I think I am starting to understand why that is, it’s because those funk-holes didn’t call our upcoming hyperlink Overlord c Grimes!
23.  Macontish Plus’ Floral Shoppe - Vapor David
Tumblr media
Get with the times Funko Pop! Millenials! Zoomers! Xers! Boomers! Doesn’t matter who you are, there’s a spot for you in the vaporwave.
24.  Charles Gayle Trio’s Streets’- Streets The Clown(2012)
Tumblr media
Do you hate clowns? Place a saxophone in a thoughtful clown’s arms and you may reconsider this. Funko Pop’s clown car is full to the brim with all kinds of creepy killer clowns
25. Bruce Hornsby’s Spirit Trail - Uncle Charles Hornsby
Tumblr media
Let’s face it, eventually we’re going to need a Brexit collection and what better way than honor Bruce Hornsby’s Uncle Charles. Can we start a Charles Hornsby cigarette challenge an anti-smoking pro vaping campaign that will make the world a better place.

Sonic Ring Bond: The Journey - Scene 42
With character mindsets out of the way, it’s time to set the stage. Well, Blister’s mindset still needs to be set, but right now they have arrived at the peculiar city in the sky. What will they find there? Well, find out for yourself in...
Tumblr media
“Really, a creepy place like this would do a lot better with some ghosts,” Rosy teased as she jumped from Blister’s ship to the stretch of concrete and asphalt that they docked at, “then we could make a test of courage out of it!”
“I’d rather not have more ghosts after the last time we met some,” Draw tried as per usual to put a damper on Rosy’s enthusiasm as he walked down the gangplank with Sonic and Blister. For his efforts Rosy stuck her tongue out at him.
“You’re being no fun today,” Rosy teased her koala companion and he rolled his eyes.
    “Whatever, you weirdo girl.”
    “It’s Rosy!”
There was a comfort that Rosy found in the exchange with Draw and she smiled brightly even in the dreary place. Sonic and Blister were both being more careful than Rosy was though.
“Be careful while having fun,” Blister warned as she tested the weight of her backpack. “My instruments were acting weird as we approached. I couldn’t rely on them to dock at all.”
“You were able to dock an airship on your own? That’s amazing!”
“Well, I don’t really have any choice with a golem hunter on board,” Blister gave Draw a weary glance. “It’s not like I can use my autogolems if they just get broken for coming out.”
“So, the Engineers do use autogolems too,” Rosy acknowledged thoughtfully, before switching gears and spinning over to place her hands on Draw’s shoulders. He gave her a look, but Rosy continued unbothered. “But I’m sure Draw wouldn’t break yours. Well, as long as they aren’t powered by fairies.”
“Everything the Engineers make are powered by Rings or steam, so no exploiting any mythical creatures,” Blister assured Rosy, Draw, and the fairy in the group, Mote. “Besides, the way Preserver autogolems work is a total mystery. It doesn’t make sense how the energy of a living thing is converted into a kinetic energy.”
“Sounds like the type of guys Eggman would get along with,” Sonic finally added his voice to conversation as he strolled off the gangplank and looked around.
Rosy noticed Sonic was rubbing the underside of his nose with his pointer finger and wondered if he was sensing danger. She couldn’t leave him worried though and risked getting teased herself to lighten his mood. “Oh~, forget that mean old man. I’ve gotten over being embarrassed by you talking like that about us and want to hear more! Come on Sonic, say something romantic~♥”
“Keep dreaming, kid,” Sonic winked at Rosy and made her puff up her cheeks as she knew exactly what he meant.
“Ooh~! Why couldn’t you play along nicely this time now that I’m ready for you!”
“Instead of play, perhaps we could get to work looking for a Ring Radio for my ship,” Blister suggested, walking away from her vessel. Sonic eyed her curiously and took up pace beside her.
“I’m all for getting this over with, but I thought we were supposed to do the dangerous stuff while you stayed back on the ship?”
“Don’t worry, I won’t slow you down.” Blister smiled at Sonic confidently. Her confidence did not last however as she lifted her left hand up and stared at it as she flexed the flat fingers of her clockwork arm. “Though I haven’t gone for a run myself since before I lost my arm. I hope I’m not too rusty.”
“You don’t mean to say you can keep up with us, do you? Sonic asked having a hard time believing it. “There aren’t too many who can, and even out of those with my speed few who can match my pace.”
“Just check your radio for a signal and I’m sure we’ll be fine. I think I might actually be excited for the first time in a while. A shame it’ll be best to split you flowers up for this little trip.”
“Flowers?” Sonic asked while checking his wrist device. The detected signal on the device told Sonic all he needed to know, and he was distracted from his question. “Well, sure enough there is a signal here. And not one we recognize.”
“I wonder if there’s anyone using it?” Rosy pressed her finger to her cheek and mused a moment. That moment was short lived and quickly followed up with her deciding to check as she worked her wrist device and cheerily called into it. “Hello~! Is there anyone home!”
“You’re going to get us killed, you weirdo girl!” Draw snapped at Rosy.
“Don’t say that!” Rosy chided him, but as her energy was spilt between her wrist device and him, she wasn’t overbearing. The lack of a response from her device though made her puff up her cheeks. “Phooey! I guess no one lives here either.”
“Gotta admit, it’d be kind of hard too.”
~Sonic wasn’t wrong. For the first time since I had been exploring the lands under Yolk, there were no plants growing over everything. They had been at one point in time, but they had all withered and died, only a thick layer of yellowed leaves that lined the streets and building floors showing they had once lived. It was kind of creepy in a different way than the rest of the weird little city as well since leaves don’t usually last like this. They crumbled easily enough to the touch, but the wind left in our wakes as we ran through the twisted city streets didn’t seem to hurt them and they simply would settle back down were they had last been.
~The leaves weren’t the only creepy thing. Yolk seemed even bigger from the city than Blister’s airship, and no matter where I ran it seemed to watch me from behind the clouds just above the horizon. And the storm clouds didn’t bring rain and thunder, but rather a snow of ash. I’m starting to think this place might be cursed. At the very least, it’s weird and unnatural.
~How unnatural? I wanted to check the size of the city when we first set out, so I ran a lap all the way around it with Draw clinging to my back and the location of the horizon never changed. And I came back around from what should have been the city’s underside. It’s not right here. It really isn’t.~
“What now,” Draw asked as Rosy stopped atop a skyscraper that tilted a full thirty degrees off its axis.
Watching the storm clouds and the ash that fell silently from them, Rosy puffed up her cheeks and exhaled sharply from her nose. “This place is way to dreary to be any fun. So how about we see if we can’t find any beneath the surface. Does that sound good, Sonic?”
-Just keep your radio channel open,- Sonic’s voice came across Rosy’s wrist device. -This place is a lot larger than it looks. Like several places are trying to fit in one spot and not pulling it off.-
-I’ve also seen signs of golem activity,- Blister’s voice came across after Sonic’s. -Probably more than enough for our little hunter to earn his keep.-
“Don’t talk like that about me!” Draw complained from Rosy’s back. “I’m not a kid!”
-Yet you were clinging to Ms. Rose’s back when we agreed to split up…-
“That’s because it’s the easiest way to not lose her.”
“I’m not that bad,” Rosy laughed, but she smiled brighter as she looked down at the decayed city that awaited her challenge. “But at least it sounds like this adventure is going to be exciting!”
Scene 42 · CLEARED Snowflake, to be continued
-----
On the shorter side, but now the exposition is done and it’s time to start elevating the series of events. A Ring Radio is here, and it’s on, but why? And Golems here as well. Mysteries, mysteries. If I do this right, this set of “episodes” will be some of my most important at this stage of the story yet. I hope everyone is as excited for them as I am!

4, 21 and 34 for the music asks !
4. A SONG THAT IS NOT SUNG IN YOUR NATIVE LANGUAGE.
YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA - “ONGAKU”
This is a pretty easy topic for me, because I always liked a lot of foreign music. I know a lot of people have a hard time getting into it, but I listen to music mainly for overall sonic feel and tone colour/quality, so foreign and instrumental music make up a decent portion of my music library! I certainly feel lucky for that being the case, too, since the amount of amazing music in the world, while enormous whichever way you slice it, becomes even more overwhelming when you open yourself up to stuff from anywhere in the world. Anyway, this is a fun song to talk about because I actually do know a little bit of Japanese. I studied it for a brief stretch in high school, because I thought it would be challenging and fun to learn a non-European language. I left for reasons you can probably surmise for yourself, related to the, ah, typical student I tended to encounter. Anyway, I don’t know much, but I know “ongaku” means “music,” “boku-wa,” is “I,” “kimi-wa,” is “you,” and “piano” is “piano!” But I think this song, like many others in the YMO catalogue, will put a smile on your face no matter how many words of Japanese you know. It’s bouncy, bubbly, and bodacious.
21. A SONG THAT YOU COULD SLAY AT KARAOKE.
THE NORMAL - “WARM LEATHERETTE”
I’ve actually never done karaoke, although I do think I’d like to try it someday. (I’m not much of a drunken reveler, though I do find Dionysus to be pretty interesting, as a concept.) My voice is a little funny, or at least I think so...very deep for an AFAB person. I always found it easier to sing a man’s part, and I was sort of a liability to my school choir because I had a hard time hitting the higher end of the alto notes. I didn’t fit in, being a “singer” singer. I like using my voice as a means of expression, but singing in a conventional manner doesn’t appeal to me I suppose. I also generally don’t care to listen to it and gravitate pretty strongly towards yelling, screaming, speak-singing or deadpan, uninflected vocals. Anyway, all that is to say that if I ever did karaoke, I’d pull something silly like this. I mean, can you imagine some fool “singing” “Warm Leatherette” at karaoke? It would be legendary.
34. A SONG YOU’D LIKE YOUR FAVOURITE ARTIST TO COVER.
LEE HAZELWOOD & NANCY SINATRA - “SOME VELVET MORNING”
It’s a little hard for me to pick a favourite artist, per se--major toss-up between Pet Shop Boys, Gary Numan, Ultravox, John Foxx, Kraftwerk, and probably someone else I’m forgetting. So here’s a song I’d be really interested to see any sort of electronic artist cover in some fashion, because I’ve always been really fascinated by it, but I also only really get properly into synth music. I won’t go too in depth about why it’s so cool here, in case some of you haven’t heard it before. Discover it yourself--it’s more fun that way! Suffice to say it’s utterly unique, and you probably haven’t heard anything quite like it before. (And if you have, would you mind sending it my way sometime?!) That said, I could see some more experimental electronic artists having a ton of fun with this one. Perhaps a treatment like the aforementioned Pet Shop Boys did with Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin’s “Je t’aime moi non plus.” Oh, now I’m amping myself up!
Thanks for the asks, everyone! This has been a ton of fun for me, and hopefully it is for you, too!

ThunderCats - “Working Grrrl”
Tumblr media
Co-Executive Producer: Victor Courtright
Supervising Producer: Nate Cash
Producer: Marly Halpern-Graser
Written by: Joan Ford
Directed by: George Kaprielian
Grrrl power!
Tumblr media
Our episode begins at the Bolkin Stadium, where a crowd of Bolkins are cheering on a huge race between Cheetara...and just Cheetara. Despite being a one-super-fast-woman race, the fans are still chanting Cheetara's name as she becomes a yellow blur.
Tumblr media
The rest of the ThunderCats are in the audience too, and Tygra, the straight man of the group, just can't help but question everything around him.
Tygra: What are we watching?!
Lion-O: A race!
Tygra: What race?! It's one person running in circles!
Thanks for explaining the joke. One of the Bolkins does explain that the winner of the race becomes the mayor of the Bolkin village, and suggests that the other Bolkins didn't want to enter because they're slow even by non-super-speedster standards.
Tumblr media
Being the only contestant, Cheetara becomes the new mayor of the Bolkins by default. During her victory, a little Bolkin girl named JanJan shows up and asks Cheetara how she can be just as fast as she is. She could tell her that one kind of has to be born with this sort of thing, but Cheetara decides to be...well, Cheetara.
Cheetara: I'll tell you a secret, JanJan. If you work really really hard and train every single day for a really long time...it won't matter, because you'll never be as fast as me.
(JanJan shows disappointment)
Cheetara: ...but that's okay! You don't have to be the fastest to be like me. You just have to be the best...at something!
Nice...save? Cheetara, fitting for her stuck-up character, suggests she can be the best Cheetara fan ever.
Tumblr media
To make a short story even shorter, it ends up working.
JanJan: This is my entire identity now!
It's definitely a commentary on something, but I can't really say what.
Tumblr media
However, the celebration ends, as, bum bum bum bum, Monkian has invaded the arena, and is challenging Cheetara to a race! Lion-O does what he would normally do when faced off against one of the ThunderCats' sworn enemies, only to be rightfully pushed back because he's not doing anything wrong yet.
Also, Monkian is clearly being silly. Sure, he was a master of swinging across trees in the original, but super-speed isn't really Monkian's superpower. Cheetara knows this, and is just as stuck-up as ever, and decides to risk her newly appointed status on what should be a landslide victory.
Tumblr media
The race begins, and it's a race that, while well animated despite the screenshot suggesting otherwise, mostly takes place with a plain blue background. I know, it's TV, they have to cut some corners somewhere. There are some pretty neat ideas, though, like when Monkian runs so fast, he causes a sonic boom dissipating the clouds and breaking part of the stadium. Wait, what?!
Tygra: How did Monkian become so fast?!
I was going to say "thanks for explaining the weirdness of this scene, Tygra!", but I guess they needed some hint that this is not normal for Monkian for anyone who started the series with this episode. There's something clearly going on here.
Tumblr media
However, there's no way anyone can prove any funny business is going on with this monkey business, as Monkian becomes the new Bolkin Mayor. Lion-O, once again seemingly ignoring that they have to know he's doing something wrong before beating him up, attempts to get the ThunderCats to beat him up, only for the audience to start throwing garbage at him.
His first order as the new Mayor is to instate a travel ban on anyone who came out of a Cat's Lair. Okay, they weren't that blatant; he just bans the ThunderCats from the arena while he does a few more things to it.
Tumblr media
As they're stuck at the Cat's Lair, Tygra, the stater of the obvious, looks at his laptop and notices that Monkian isn't exactly the greatest Mayor ever. He essentially turned the Bolkins into his slaves, and he delights in this so much that, in one of the examples of his tyranny, he's just making them move rocks from one pile to the other for no real benefit to anyone. Even the Brutemen from the original were used to build a lair.
Panthro does point out that the Bolkins kind of did this to themselves by even allowing such a contest to happen, because...he doesn't want justice? Lion-O has a different idea...
Tumblr media
...a training montage, complete with an 80's song instrumental! Unfortunately, they don't really get as far as the training montage, as Cheetara really didn't take losing a race too well. It may have been the first time she ever lost to anyone. Panthro tries to cheer her up by using her own words against this failure-caused depression: she doesn't need to be the fastest to be like Cheetara. Unfortunately, Cheetara continues those words and says that she needed to be the best at something.
She does have one idea, as she leaves the Cat's Lair to find something she can be the best at. She even takes the laptop, despite it not being hers.
Tumblr media
This something turns out to be the wonderful world of Business at the Wolo Village. No, really, the business is just named "Business Corp." Her first job is to sort all of the mail in the mail room, and he knows she can do it because all of the other workers are there, too. Unfortunately, they're all sleeping on the job. What is Cheetara to do to prove that she can be the best?
Tumblr media
By educating herself with a tape, and since she has to learn all of this quickly, she has to fast forward the tape and try to soak in all of that information. Gotta say, that is an idea I haven't seen, and it is fitting for the speedster. I wonder if The Flash ever did this.
Tumblr media
She manages to use all of the managerial skills she learned to get the slackers to form the mail in neat piles. The manager is so proud of this, he decides to just give her his job immediately. Finally, while she can no longer be the best at running, she can be the best at working 9 to 5...though the manager has to correct her that it's actually 10 to 6.
Tumblr media
We may not get a training montage, but we do get a business montage instead, complete with a song so great, it's even replayed in the credits for this episode. If there's any nitpick I could make here, that walk-cycle in the lower left is sort of odd. As she walks, her head seems to change shape to this maniacal grin and back to normal every time she takes a step. Maybe I'm missing a joke here, but it's pretty out of place. In the end, she's at the top of the corporate ladder.
We neatly transition from the newly rechristened "Cheetara Corp." to the woods, where the ThunderCats are wondering how Cheetara is doing with her new plan to be the best at business. Even with this minor scene, it enhances the montage's joke even further, as it's revealed that Cheetara's montage of pushing it to the top didn't leave out that much. Not only was this her first day...
Tygra: She left the Cat's Lair, like, three hours ago! She probably hasn't even filled out an application yet!
...thanks for underestimating your teammate's abilities, Tygra. It's understandable, but still. Also, "like"? Is he a valley girl now? Anyway, they make it back to the Bolkin Stadium to find out what exactly gave Monkian his ability to run faster than the former fastest person on Third Earth...
Tumblr media
...which also had a name change since we last saw it. The ThunderCats ban is still in place, and Lion-O is just too proud to not exclaim exactly who he and his teammates are despite his plans to just try to sneak past the guards. He should know because he was there when the ban was put into place, but he shouldn't know because Lion-O is the dumb-dumb.
Tumblr media
Thankfully, JanJan, remember her, managed to sneak past the tire fires and offers a way for them to sneak in undetected. Why would she do this? Because she already focused all of her energy on being the best Cheetara fan ever, and she didn't want to waste the effort. She can sneak them in, but first, they need disguises.
Tumblr media
We Gilligan cut to the ThunderCats in their disguises, which consist mainly of "Monkian is heart" shirts and full manes. Lion-O is ticked off about this for some reason. Either he really didn't like having to pretend to like Monkian, or he really felt that "say we're the ThunderCats" strategy could have worked. Not sure.
Whatever the case, the disguises work, and they're able to go to the Monkian Speed Stunt Spectacular. The ThunderCats didn't get them because...well, maybe they snuck into this audience without having them put on? Again, I'm not sure. They sneak out to Monkian's secret room, which happened to be left open with no lock or key.
Tumblr media
They look in Monkian's room, and are shocked to find out. Clearly, it must be the giant unicorn poop on the table. Okay, maybe it could be a giant glob of Neapolitan ice cream that he just put on the table, but that's the first thing to come to my mind. Not enough to show this disgusting room, Wilykit says this:
Wilykit: Why did he do that to the ceiling?
...yeah, the less I question this, the better. Of course, it's not the ice cream/poop, but the obvious safe that Monkian just put in the middle of the room. Panthro says that this is basically breaking and entering, but Tygra, of all people, goads him into destroying the safe with the classic "you're just worried you CAN'T break the safe!" trick.
Tumblr media
Sure enough, it's revealed that Monkian was hiding a magic potion in there that gave him this super speed. In other words, he used steroids, but they don't use the "S" word. There was sort of a hint towards this in the race scene, where we get a shot of Monkian's legs being super big as he runs. However, this would be easy to confuse this with ThunderCats Roar's usual problem of having the characters change shape and size between scenes. This episode sometimes does it even in the same scene!
Tumblr media
Monkian barges in, and we finally get our fight scene of the week...well, sort of. The good news is that he was barging in because the juice wore out. They don't decide to beat him up, they just toss the magic potion to each other like this is a game of monkey in the middle. Oh, now I get it: Monkian in the middle.
In one particular scene, Lion-O gets passed the bottle, and...he just stands there. Is this the return of the infamous Reboot Puff Strategy?
Lion-O: Hmmm, I should probably move.
...even Lion-O's aware of how silly this is. They do get a little bit of a proud crowd reaction.
Tumblr media
Eventually, it ends up in the hands of JanJan, and Monkian is rather eager to take that potion away from her. The audience...actually, they don't seem to do that much to their Mayor even with his misdeeds being fully visible. It's possible they have no real time, because the plots are about to converge like a bulldozer plowing into a building. They don't really cut back and forth between them; it just feels like they completely forgot about it until now.
Tumblr media
By the way, bulldozer plowing into a building is exactly what happens, as Cheetara and her shoulderpad suit leads a bunch of bulldozers to bulldoze the arena. Why is she able to do this?
Tumblr media
Because Monkian signed a contract, allowing Cheetara Corp to own his name and arena. Unlike the steroids, there was no hint of this happening at all. The reasoning makes sense, as Cheetara, disguised with merely a mustache, had him sign a contract that would declare him "super cool". As told by pretty much all the signs around Monkian Stadium, that's far more important to him than reading any kind of fine print.
Without any additional races or use of that fast magic, she manages to save the day and, after Monkian's disqualification, she becomes the Mayor again. But, uh oh, she can't just leave her business! She finds a solution rather quickly, which I guess fits Cheetara's character, and it is a continuation of a gag from earlier. It passes.
...she really didn't grow as a character throughout any of this, did she? Honestly, I didn't really expect that to happen.
How does it stack up?
It's a simple idea, and the execution isn't bad. Outside of a rushed ending, it works. I'll give this a 4.
Tumblr media
Next, a crime fighter not from Third Earth! ...well okay, neither are the ThunderCats, but another one nonetheless!

I Am Looking For More OP Blogs On Tumblr
I have been noticing that whenever I follow a Tumblr user (most of them are rebloggers), they disappear from my Following count (either they deactivated their account, or blocked me; but mostly their account gets deactivated).  Most Tumblr users want more followers; I want more blogs to follow, especially OP (original post) blogs.
I am not saying there should be no rebloggers (in fact, I encourage reblogging); it is that there are so many users that only/mostly reblog other users’ posts; I want to follow more OP users because I have a big thing for originality, creativity, and individuality.  Rebloggers tend to agree on what the OP (or other reblogger) says, and whenever I go to the tagged or search section/s, only the OP posts are apparent, and no rebloggers with their own creative tags (unless I go to their blog and search whatever keyword/tag they designate some of their posts with).
Yes, I reblog other users’ posts, myself, but I tend to add my own thoughts and tags whenever I do so; and since my reblogs are not in the tagged or search sections, these posts are not mine, since I am not the OP.  Even some OP users have reblogged posts of their own, as well (but they usually do not go overboard with them, and they usually have an equal amount of reblogs as well as original posts).  Because I promote creativity, talent and individuality, I do not reblog as much as most OP users.
I am looking for more OP blogs for me to follow (or to follow me so I can follow them) that are currently active and not defunct or dormant.  And whatever the OP user posts on their blog is their primary content.  Here are some content I am looking for:

Beyond the Boys’ Club: Kobra Paige of Kobra and the Lotus
"I'm inspired by any woman I've met who is out there, working hard, and grinding this out"
On her early days with Kobra and the Lotus as a woman in the heavy metal and hard rock scene
I feel like all the women were so underground. We would meet each other, but we were all in the underground scene and trying hard to push forward with the bands coming up. Then, the digital age took over, and it was challenging. When we started playing, we were part of street teaming. People would go out and put posters around the city. That’s not part of life anymore, which is so crazy. It has really started to shift as my generation — and the generation a little bit older than me — of women have persisted and kept going with their bands, and now we’re starting to bubble to the surface. It’s a strong movement. It’s common to see more women. It’s an amazing time for music, in general. I think there are so many good bands out there and good music, and women are a big part of that.
On how being a woman in heavy metal and hard rock still surprises people
I was just at a venue, and the owner of the venue was very nice to me and very lovely but thought I was a groupie of the band. She stuck a wristband on me, and the tour manager saw that happen, and he’s like, what did you get a wrist band for? I told him that she thought I was just hanging out with the guys on tour. There are so many bands, and she was so sweet, so it didn’t bother me at all, and after our performance, she came up and was hugging me and apologizing. It didn’t feel degrading. But it shows that it is still takes people by surprise to see a woman doing this.
On the female artists who inspired her to make music
I’ve never idolized anybody. For me, that mentality isn’t healthy in my mind. It’s more about what I can do as an individual to bring to the table in my own way to match this feeling. I do really love a lot of female artists, though. I love Heart and classic rock, and I really enjoy seeing some of the women that are doing their thing now, like [In This Moment’s] Maria Brink, because I think she’s being authentic. [Halestorm’s] Lzzy Hale is also out there being herself and encouraging other to be themselves. I relate to that kind of genuine attitude.
I’m inspired by any woman I’ve met who is out there, working hard, and grinding this out, because I know what the path is like, and I’m honored to be on tour with any of the woman who I’ve toured with. I respect what they’re doing, and they’re so great at their craft. There is so much more room, musically, and it’s great to be part of that.
On whether she’s noticed a difference in the music industry since the #MeToo movement emerged
I haven’t noticed very much in our little bubble. All I’ve seen is the stories and hearing how people we know or friends of people have been impacted. I haven’t actually seen anything change, but now that I think about it, I’ve been much more respected when I’ve taken photos with people on this tour than I have in the past. It might happen by accident — people get excited and pull you in aggressively not knowing. But, now that I think about it, there has been less of that on this latest tour.
On her overall experience being a woman in the heavy music scene
I have learned so much and have become very strong. Every time I’ve had to cross a challenging bridge, it’s made me stronger. I am very fortunate that I didn’t experience anything traumatic in a physical way, but I have had different obstacles that I’ve had to climb over that have not been easy. But, I’m grateful for them, because they made me who I am today, and I have a strong sense of who I am and what I stand for.
On why Evolution is the perfect title for Kobra and the Lotus’ new album
We thought this new album was another evolution of the band, both in our songwriting and sonically. We focused really hard on incorporating textural elements into this record to help us become more identifiable as Kobra and the Lotus. I really brought a lot of the soulfulness in my voice to the table this time around, and we took one step closer to hopefully be really identifiable as the band that we are.
On the song “Thundersmith” from Evolution
I really enjoy playing “Thundersmith” with the guys live. It’s my story. It’s an attitude that has taken my whole 20s to finally step into and be like, I don’t care what people think or the stories people are going to make up or how hard this industry is going to test me. I’m going to do this because I love it and am proud of what I’m made of, and that’s enough. But, it’s supposed to be empowering for people, and that’s definitely an empowering track. So far, the reaction has been really good to the new music, and we’ve been getting a lot of comments, especially from women, saying, “That made me really empowered,” and that’s awesome, because music should make you feel good.
On her recent engagement to Tommy Karevik of Kamelot
I never imagined in a million years that the man I would want to spend the rest of my life with would be in the music industry! I’ve only been exposed to this demographic of people for a long time — I never go to bars, and I’m always just with musicians. I’ve had very typical relationships with different musicians, and those were not very good. I thought that after the last relationship I had, there was no way in a hundred years I would be in another relationship with another musician. I thought that I wouldn’t find a person with the same values I have, because I walk a pretty known tightrope when I comes to my values and code of ethics. So, I got blindsided when I met Tommy. My band was supporting Kamelot in Europe in 2015, and Tommy needed a singer to fill in for the female parts for Kamelot’s next U.S. run, so he invited me. That’s how we met — really on that European tour. It unfolded from there.
On the advice she would give to young people looking to get into music
If you’re passionate and this is your dream, now is the time when you are young to go for this and pursue it. Look for mentors that can give you any pieces of advice on how the industry works, and start getting music out there. Really enjoy what you’re doing, and don’t let fear hold you back. Know that everyone you see who is successful has been through tons of trials and tribulations and has failed time and time again and got back up. It’s going to happen, but they’re going to need to get back up and keep pushing. Don’t let criticism get to you, too. It’s art and subjective, and you’re putting your heart on your sleeve for everyone to judge, so take the good and bad, but don’t take the bad to heart. Know how to separate constructive criticism from non-constructive criticism and keep going.

For the meme, how about RainbowBell?
How do much do I ship it?: Never heard of it/ Notp / Dislike / used to ship / neutral / maybe / ship it / aww / otp / IS IT CANON YET?
What non sexual activities do they like to do together?Training, working out, doing some races around the clouds, and Dumbbell cheering RD on at sporting events ^^
Who does chores around the house?RD’s not always the most active about that, so that’d be up to Dumbbell lol
Who’s the better cook?Hmm, not sure if I can see either of them being the cooking type so I’d say they’d prefer takeout/microwavable meals :p
Who’s the funniest drunk?Probably RD, who I’d imagine might turn into one of those sappy/giggly drunks ;p
Do they have kids?Yep! I’d imagine they’d have either a boy or girl (and maybe a couple other kids down the line) :)
Do they have any traditions?Probably doing some special race/exercising routines during weekends, perhaps
What do they fight about?Weeeell... considering their personalities there’d probably be alot of things that’d get them heated ^^;. Being away for long periods during work, taking certain teasing jests too far, Dumbbell getting worried about RD’s dangerous Elements of Harmony missions (even if he tries not to show it upfront), etc.
What would they do if they found their paring tag on tumblr? (If they have one)RD would be a flustered lil’ nut and huff about it, while Dumbbell’s just smirking proud that they’ve got so many people supporting them together ;p
Who cried at the end of Marley and me?RD tried not to show it, but Dumbbell could tell that her eyes were gettin’ misty-eyed during these types of endings (especially since she’d be snuggling Tank close to her the whole time) :3
Who always wins at Mario kart?Oof, they’re both pretty competitive as hell so this would be pretty even split imo :p
One thing I like about this ship?I like the idea of how they can be the type of couple who challenges eachother in a more “playful” way now, and that despite their rocky past as kids they were able to move away from that after RD proved herself and thus could potentially bond more if given the time for it ^^
One thing I don’t like about the ship? They haven’t really interacted much since the “Sonic Rainboom” episode, and the most Dumbbell ever seems to appear is through flashbacks nowadays (and even Hoops tends to get more focus than Dumbbell out of their trio group, for some reason :u)
The song I would say fits them?Hmmm, maybe something like “Just the Girl” by Click Five? With the themes of how despite RD acting so stubborn and annoyed with him that Dumbbell can’t help but like her anyway? :3
Another headcanon about the paring? (Free space)Their first date would be up on the clouds when an aurora phenomenon happens in the sky... illuminating everything just right to set the mood~ 💙

For Your Health - ‘Nosebleeds’
This band, and I cannot exaggerate this enough, made me like skramz by making me aware I already liked skramz but didn’t know what it was.
Appearing from nowhere in late 2018 to launch an entire subculture revival, then dropping an album (on Middle Man Records no less) in 2019 and kickstarting a tour that would unite the entire east coast is no small feat, but For Your Health knocked it out of the park by staying absolutely unwaveringly true to genre.
My personal relationship to skramz (called ‘screamo’ in my 2007 heyday, before that was co-opted by metalcore) was rocky, to say the least, and highly uninformed as my emo mainstays were always MCR and Fall Out Boy. But as I grew (late bloomer) into Touche Amore, Thursday, (old) Pianos Become The Teeth, et all, I began to appreciate that ‘emotional hardcore’ really meant something, just as it essentially all but dissolved in the 2015-and-on universe.
Nosebleeds kicks in with jangly overblown surfy guitars that leave someone expecting an instant mosh pit confused if this is an art record (especially coupled with the Donnie Darko clip), and that’s one of my favorite elements of the album. Very in line with early Touche Amore (Renegotiating the Charade comes to mind), Noseblbeeds constantly teeters between hardcore panic notes, sweeping post-hardcore moments, and chuggy pseudo-metal, with no loyalty to pop music structure to inform the listener what’s coming next. The songs, most clocking in at around 1:30, are the perfect vignette-sized vehicles for that, and the restraint of cutting writing short that could drag on forever (yes, I am dragging Every Time I Die and The Chariot here), is what keeps this firmly tied to it’s hardcore roots, and not drifting off into just noise violence.
If I wanted to be nit-picky, I’d say the lack of bass presence on the album overall does give a slightly ‘diy home-studio’ vibe to an otherwise very well mixed set of songs. (This includes some very non-studio sounding drums, especially on the closing track). I do think though that the complete sonic equator above which no instrument ever seems to rise or fall on the album creates the perfect vehicle for a genre that’s vocals-to-the-front. And the choice to use overblown gain on the vocals is always my personal preference. While artsier bands (see, I Hate Sex) choose reverb, and the genre’s seminal bands (see, Rites Of Spring) chose clean, I think letting the mic be overwhelmed by the singer’s voice also allows the listener to feel that, especially when you drop to moments of clarity.
Overall, this record is exactly what it intends to be, a violently emotional, and poignantly political (FUCK ICE), return to form for a genre that got erased by ‘boy bands with breakdowns.’ If you don’t like skramz (my mom), you’re not going to like it, simple as that. It’s not pandering. But if you’re trying to show someone who only appreciates heavy music that emo isn’t just pop music in eyeliner, please have them start with Nosebleeds. It doesn’t get better than this.
Overall Rating: 5/5 skateboarding skeletons (My 5 point system, detailed) 1. Is it well produced? (Yes, for the genre) 2. Is it an album, not just a collection of songs? (Yes) 3. Is it challenging itself / it’s genre expectations? (Yes) 4. Does it say something? (Absolutely) 5. Do I personally like it? (Yes)
