A quick drawing of Princ Fašnik's sick drip
Reffed from a photo by photographer Milan Duniskvarić (on Facebook)
Princ Fašnik ("Prince Carnival") is the central figure of the carnival in Samobor, Croatia, and he officially runs the rown, excuse me, the Carnival Republic, for the duration of the festival.
Spoilers: he gets burned at the stake in the end, as punishment for his bad city management

Hummingbird!
Okay, now that I’ve gotten that out of my system…
05 October 2023
Second half of my perennial order arrived. First up is two perennial geraniums (samobor) that have some height to them and should give some cover to the side of the concrete steps.
To the left you can also see the leaves of the cyclamen coming up, following the pink flowers it put up earlier.
Close-up of the cyclamen.
The pulmonaria (lungwort) shipped in the fall after all! There it is to the left of the hellebores, added to the under stairs shade area.
And quick state of the garden at the beginning of October. Hibiscus is still blooming away. The ornamental grass has put out its pretty pink plumes. The potato vine continues to swallow the right corner. Excellent annual groundcover.
And the other side. Not much new happening. The lantana is still going strong. The zinnias have come into their own since I cut back the Joe Pye Weed. Moonvine is also still flowering every night. We’re in for a significant temperature drop next week, so we’ll see how that affects things.
On the to-do list this weekend: put in the rest of flagstones and thyme. Clean out plants from pots that are in the dying stages. Move some things around and general clean-up/end-of-season prep. Maybe mulch the front if I feel up to it after everything else.

All Saints Day, Samobor, Croatia :: by milan_z81

El pájar
Octavio Paz 1914-1998
-In the transparent silence
day rested:
the transparency of space
was the transparency of silence.
The unmoving light of the sky soothed
the growing of the grasses.
The bugs of the earth, among the stones,
under the unchanging light, were stones.
Time was sated in the minute.
Noon consumed itself
in the self-absorbed stillness.
And a bird sang, slender arrow.
A wounded breast of silver, the sky quivered,
the leaves shook, the grass woke up …
And I felt that death was an arrow
that doesn’t know who shot it,
and when our eyes open we die.
