Thurigyl
Thurigyl is the God of Transitions and Thresholds, known as the One Between by his most strident followers. Thurigyl is a very traditionally important Deity for the Doravn (Grey Elves) as well as the Neaula (Wood Elves) and is one of the main points of cultural overlap between the two elven species. Rituals to Thurigyl are also of great importance to Harpies, Ogres, and among a number of tribes of both River Hurthlings and Sahel Hurthlings—in these last two cases, being the only non-Day Deity they worship.
Thurigyl is said to be the brother of both Dhamsar and Lol’eth, and has a particular closeness to those other Deity. His avatar appears as a large hound with three heads, with reddish-hued fur and a differing piece of headgear on each of the heads. One is usually a coronet, another a combat helm, and the third varies between a headscarf and a headband of slick, dark fabric. Similarly, the sacrificial offerings to Thurigyl will also vary—though this is dependent on the life stage the one leaving the offering is going through. Children tend to leave behind things like teething toys and extra candy, while those about to be married will offer something like braids of hair or ribbon, or sometimes rings, and those retiring or growing older may leave marks of their former occupation or crafts at the shrine. His symbols are the doorway/threshold itself, the cross-legged figure, and the jackal or fox.

etz hayyim (“tree of life”) synagogue in chania, crete, greece. the building dates to the 14th-15th centuries, and was originally a venetian catholic church. it was acquired by chania's jewish community and converted into a synagogue in the late 17th century. chania's jews were deported due to the holocaust in 1944, after which the building remained abandoned until restoration in the 1990s.
romaniote jews are the oldest jewish community in europe and one of the oldest in the world, thought to have lived in and around present day greece since before 70 ce. they have their own liturgy that is unrelated to the more commonly used european ones (ashkenazic and sephardic).

god i hate that jk rowling used the term veela (vila) for her harpy-like seductress creatures bc like, in their original context (slavic mythos, particularly south slavic, and, in some contexts, west slavic) theyre like woodland fairies/nymphs.
and given that she refers to bulgaria as far north and cold its no wonder that she made them all blond haired blue eyed (🙄) (she doesnt know anything abt the balkans)

say what you will about the witcher show (and believe me I have a lot to say) but the soundtrack is such a vibe. it's too bad they only got percival schuttenbach in the third season soundtrack cuz if they hopped on the first season's soundtrack i really don't believe it could be topped (game soundtrack notwithstanding)

Jurovit
Jurovit is the God of the Moon, Inspiration, and of the Altered State of Mind, and while sometimes feared for his unpredictable method of incarnating himself, is a well-respected member of the pantheon amongst the Underground peoples as well as among Frost Giants (the only Night God they are known to venerate at all). Among Hobgoblins, Dark Elves, and Gnomes there are paladin orders devoted to Jurovit which are known to be highly chaotic forces for good, with their signature polearm weapon called a Half-Moon being readily recognized among the Underground.
As the Moon God, he is often falsely-associated with bringing the Were-curse upon Surface communities, when in fact Jurovit is very much known by his respectful followers to be the patron of curing Werebeasts and staving off such transformations. He typically incarnates himself in the form of an anthropomorphic rabbit or grasshopper—sometimes a mixture of both species—dressed in finery and walking with a silvery-hued cane. As one might expect, offerings to Jurovit are as changeable as he is, and differ with the moon phase. Most of these phases involve recreational substances, with New Moon nights being the time to offer psychoactive mushrooms, and Full Moon nights being the time to offer forms of alcohol. A range of other substances fill out the rest of the calendar, though these are matched differently depending on region and culture. His symbols are the full moon, the smoking pipe, and the rabbit (occasionally grasshopper, among certain sects of Trolls and Dark Elves).

i want to appropriate slavic native faith in the most homosexual transsexual anti-racist pro black pro brown way possible and really grind my heels into it and not let go
why is something that could be so cool so nasty and backwards
how does homophobia and white supremacy make sense for preserving culture
it's the static landscapes and belief in individualism and isolation as supreme above all huh
embarassing
slavic native faith could be cool as FUCK
lets do that

It NEVER occurred to me that there are wikipedia articles that don't have an English version. This one Wikipedia article I want to read is in polish, Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Lithuanian, Uzbek, and Esperanto, but not in English. Which I'm fascinated by!

Ukraine deserved that. Yeah the war is likely a bit of a factor but that song SLAPPED. Folk influenced rap about his mum, performed in gorgeous traditional outfits. Love em. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦

Feel free to not answer, but what about the Stalwart generals that that person had bothered you?
Mostly curious cause I've got my own rendition of em and I feel you're a pretty reliable source to ask so as to not unintentionally put anything offensive or ick bout the jttw peeps.
eeeeh, the person who bothers me (to this day, n to put it lightly,) does so because way back in the day when i first thought "hey. what if.. i put the Stalwart Generals in here." i was still a very small creator in the lmk fandom, basically, while the other peep was established. i put up my vibe checks of them n what technically happened was that they Honestly Kind Of Yoinked my takes on Beng n Ba WITHOUT even ever at least Askin if they could/i was comfy with that
like the stalwart generals r obviously not mine! anyone can do with em whatEVER they want. i myself was inspired by a jt/tw fic to pull them into my own au (that fic's Ma and ft!Ma are pretty strangely similar even tho for my characterization of her i used the four ma words that are used to show off tones to beginners on duolingo as the main building blocks) rather than comin up with it entirely by myself
but the Specific characterizations of the B team were pretty much mine from what i have then seen n they got pulled into an au where shdwpch is a thing n this was WAYYY before i realized i can just block the damb tag (took me a bit, Spot slow sometimes 😔), seein those characterizations bein so positive bout swk n macaque bein somehow romantically together made my skin crawl
therefore! i havent exactly seen a take on them that could be considered offensive (Yet and i Think, i have like over half of the fandom blocked at this point tbh). whats wrong over at the fort Spot is very specific to the fort Spot. I do also ask that people try and not take Me as a base inspiration for the Stalwart Generals (especially if ure doin shdwpch up in the bitch, but yanno all bout that at this point)- mostly cuz u r limitin ur own creativity!! the generals dont even have specified genders in the book (at least the english translation hahahoo) so u can take a lot of liberty startin even as early as There

Woof, some more art
So, for those who don't know me personally, I'm 3rd generation Volga German on my dad's side. I didn't find out until about two years ago, and it's suspected that my family has some deeper ties with Eastern Europe beyond what information is available to me.
I never felt at home in the US growing up, and learning about my German-Russian heritage has made a lot of really complex feelings I've had make a lot more sense. My dad would always briefly mention our German and Russian ancestry... but I've been getting the inkling he's ashamed of it, or at least, bitter.
This character in particular is a shape-shifting prince who was estranged from his land and travels the world telling stories. It's been comforting; for obvious reasons, I can't return to Russia, and many Volga Germans who left Russia eventually assimilated into other cultures. Being able to pretend I'm a little slavic elf prince who cant go back to his magical land has been really cathartic :')
