I don’t want to say much about them because I want to write fanfic about this and I don’t want to spoil it so sorry if this sounds barebones or is confusing :(

Some quick before things: This AU is in a world where all of humanity has been forced into a highly structured society. Basically everyone was kidnapped and forced into cryosleep except for people part of this secret organization who’ve begun to create this super structured world

Cities are just numbered and under each city are the “Blocks”, 4 per city, 1 a daycare, the other three for people 18+. Blocks all have 100 members (people who have been awoken from cryosleep) and have a strict ruleset, if a member breaks a rule, they’re killed. The last remaining member is allowed to leave and live in the “new world”. Daycares don’t do that (kill members (kids)) they just teach them to follow the new rules. They also get their education there so once they’ve graduated they’re allowed to leave.

I think a fundamental part of the relationship between Deli and Colin is that Deli never actually saw Colin as an equal. This is the root at why, when Colin expresses mild questioning in episode 4, Deli attempts to intimidate and order Colin into standing with him. Deli also has a habit of talking about Colin as if it is given Colin will support anything he did; in the same scene, he keeps saying "we" as if there is no question Colin will be alongside him, and he becomes angry when Colin expresses disagreement and declared Colin as unneeded, even a hindrance. It goes far back. There's no suggestion of choice when Colin was given the title of skald (there certainly wasn't interest in it). Notably, Colin is being literally paid to be here, and I wrote previously about how it feels there's a disconnect between the way that Colin and Deli see this relationship between episodes three and four.

In reverse, it's also notable Raphaniel and Colin's relationship is actually one of equals and a relationship in which Colin has his own agency and a freedom to be an independent person. The first thing Raphaniel does is ask if Colin would like to come with him to the cave, even initially interpreted Colin as declining, and then when Colin expresses he is not interested in Raphaniel's ambitions, he asks Colin what are his goals. When Raphaniel brings up knighthood, he presents it as something being offered to rather than chosen for Colin ("I can shroud you in gold and let your hand be the hand of this church," emphasis mine) and as a path that will give Colin an authority to seek what he wants ("Such that you need not worry to produce steel and mete out what vengeance you see fit."); even though Colin still hates the title—seems he dislikes all titles—the manner in which Raphaniel suggests a knighthood feels very different from the way Colin becomes titled as skald, especially with the way Colin actively and freely agrees to accept the role despite the parts he doesn't like. It ends up as a joke, that Colin and Raphaniel have just been following one another in a circle in place, but it's significant that Colin is willing to go where Raphaniel feels is useful and Raphaniel describes himself as hitching his wagon to Colin and Colin's success.

Generally, there's an interesting window here relating to the different social classes that Deli and Raphaniel belong to (or are presumed to belong to) and what one feels entitled to vs. what one had to scheme and work to get and how that affects the way they approach their relationship with Colin. But, anyway, it's a core part of these two relationships that Deli and Raphaniel treat Colin very differently while Colin is working alongside them. There's a mutual understanding and an equality in Colin's relationship with Raphaniel that never existed in Colin's relationship with Deli.

Okay, so I kind of interpret Sirius as going to Gryffindor because he met James and the lure of that new friendship provided an added incentive to actually go against his family’s expectations (kind of meaning James outweighed the potential fallout of his Sorting), so do you think Sirius still would have gone to Gryffindor had he not met James? Like, we see how important James is to Sirius pretty much every time Sirius is on page, so I’m always wondering about how different Sirius’s life would’ve gone had he never met James. Sirius makes his comment about maybe being different when they’re discussing Houses and how his entire family is full of Slytherins, so James is very much linked to Sirius’s Gryffindor Sorting (and also Sirius displays a ton of Slytherin traits like “resourcefulness, determination, a certain disregard for rules” [from COS], and ambitiousness. He’s not cunning, but almost none of the canon Slytherins actually are so evidently that trait isn’t actually all that important). There’s so many potential paths that could result from Sirius not meeting/befriending James and I just cannot stop thinking about how a random meeting on a train could have changed Sirius’s whole life

gosh, this is such an interesting question bc it’s very very impossible for me to think of sirius without james lol but i’ll try.

sirius does show disdain for slytherin (possibly bc it’s linked to his family and in his mind, family=bad, ergo family=slytherin=bad ykno?) so it’s likely he doesn’t make it there (or doesn’t want to, at least). i do wonder, however, if he had any latent biases against gryffindor (the way snape did) tho. like, if his family kept instilling certain ideas in him, and he has nothing to counter it—what’s to say he isn’t equally unnerved by gryffindor-ish brashness and recklessness? i think, in that case, perhaps ravenclaw might suit him bc he *is* smart and he himself might consider it a ‘respectable’ house to be in.

that being said, i have read a few fics where sirius does go into slytherin (esp w/o having james) and almost all of them come down to an intense focus on subtlety and playing the long game. sirius wants to protect his brother, or realises the only way he can get out is by going thru it. he keeps his head down and manages to make it all the way out so he has power and protection and some cards up his sleeve. in that case, yeah, i can see him going there, but that does require a level of foresight from a child and suspension of disbelief from readers

i’m not sure if he’d be in gryffindor without james, though, purely bc he wouldn’t really have any incentive to go there other than, say, being different than his family (and i’m not sure how strong that desire was in 11yo sirius anyway). moreso, if he thinks gryffindor would have an hostile environment, it would just be in his self interest to…not, yeah?)

when it comes to the whole ‘how would sirius’ life be without james’ aspect of this, gosh. what a fucking tragedy. perhaps the biggest thing that stands out to me is that he wouldn’t have his safe space, ykno? the kind of unlearning and growth that can happen when you’re with someone who wholeheartedly believes in u and unconditionally loves u is,,,,unmatched, and i can’t see him getting that anywhere else. and i’ve talked about the morality angle wrt james & sirius (tl;dr: sirius has a strong right & wrong framework, but the path to get there is muddied bc of his upbringing)—i think that would also be a bit more tricky. i can see a more ruthless sirius, one who imbibes more of his family’s teaching bc they’re the most dominant parts of his life, and maybe even a more mercenary flavor to his personality. because in canon, i think sirius has the potential for all that, but it’s never really unlocked bc of the company & examples he has around him in hogwarts.

Last reblog has me thinkin a lot about Kirby remakes. You have Kirby’s Adventure and NiD where the artstyle is so glaringly different between the two it’s like you have to choose a side. And from what I’ve seen the fandom tends to (intelligently) show favoritism towards the original NES look. 

Then you have KSS and KSSU, the base of the last post, and I find the differences between the games to be slight yet substantial. Maybe I’m just blind and all 16-bit games look the same to me, but I couldn’t even tell the sprites were different the first time I played KSSU, but after actually playing KSS I could really feel the difference. The original has a much harsher and more gritty style, that I think a lot of people feel hasn’t aged well, but atleast I still think has tons of merit. For certain characters who need that darker or more expressive touch like Meta Knight and Marx I find the old sprites more flattering in a way. And I think the garishness of the pre-rendered backgrounds SHINES in Meta Knight’s Revenge because that sort of gross clash against the usual style is heightened for a mode about Meta invading with his war ship and foreign ideals.

But that actually brought me to our latest remake in RTDL DX. And like there is nothing really WRONG with the new style, it just makes me miss the wii game. The wii game looked basic in a really charming and balanced way that I think is lost in how bright and cell shaded the new game is. The worst sin being scenes that are meant to have more dynamic lighting - like inside Magolor’s ship or in the final cutscene as Another Dimension crumbles - where the more cartoony style just doesn’t gel. But like honestly, if it weren’t for very on the nose divisive stuff like Dedede’s redesign and the character outlines, it would be very hard to make a case for the merit of the original. Just cause to the average person in every sense of the world the new game looks like an upgrade graphically - Shinier, higher detail models, fancy new animations, and the ritz.

I hope over time people do come to really appreciate the wii version’s merit in it’s simplicity, mainly cause it’s another big comfort Kirby game so any change to it made in the remake rubs me the wrong way lmao. But also I do think it has some outside of my uber personal opinions.

Khare's favourite dish to prepare is none other than the traditional fried breakfast! The American version of this meal is a little different from what she's used to back home, but it's so quick and easy to make that it's no big deal. Crispy bacon with sunny eggs? Pancakes with syrup and hash browns on the side? In they go, prepared how the customer likes though she often wishes she could add beans as a proper fried breakfast is supposed to have. She's picked up how to make a variety of meals since starting work at Pauli's Diner, many of them quick and easy so currently there aren't any dishes she'd like to learn ASAP unless it's a special request or for somebody she really cares about. Unfortunately her diet has become somewhat limited since her physiology mutated, leaving her unable to enjoy things she once used to.
