other characters Doing Things was one of my biggest wishes for this game, especially after how amazingly Age of Calamity fleshed out the new Champions, so I couldn't be happier rn!!!
these glimpses already seem to sell the fact the world is going to feel a lot more alive

i would love to hear how youd want to do a botw manga
YEAAAAAAHHHHH ok ok ok so. i would have the manga follow largely the same structure as the game, beginning with link waking up on the great plateau. he would go through the opening segment almost the same as the game, but with a little more emphasis on the physical toll that the shrine has taken on him (notably i'd frame the old man's baked apple as his realization that he's HUNGRY, that his body feels physically weak and untrained after 100 years of sleep.) i would also place a lot of emphasis on the eeriness of the plateau and the fact that link feels he SHOULD remember these locations but doesn't. the plateau segment would otherwise be very game-compliant, including the shrines, tower, temple of time, and the old man's cabin as spotlighted locations. the key difference here would be that instead of the gameplay mechanic where shrines give link something physical that makes the game easier for the player, they would instead be framed as training exercises which, while lacking material reward, would help him retrain his body and regain the strength he lost in the 100 years he was asleep.
after leaving the plateau the general structure of the game would be loosely followed, (impa > purah > divine beasts & memories > ganon) with a few key pieces of worldbuilding/side quests spotlighted along the way. the first major event after leaving the plateau for link would be his discovery of the dueling peaks stable, the first real indication of human society he's seen since waking up. this would be an important introduction to the society of hyrule post-calamity, and link would also get his first horse here, finding that he's strangely good with horses and perhaps getting a quick flash of a warm feeling, almost like an old friend :)
The memories would still be initially revealed to link via images within the sheikah slate, but unlike gameplay i wouldn't have link specifically seek out memories, instead i would have him stumble upon familiar locations while exploring, which i think is closer to the original intent of that feature. he would find each memory in order and they would play out very similarly if not exactly as they do in canon. the divine beasts and their quests would also play out largely like canon, with the exception of me retconning the transphobia out of the gerudo quest line. I also might like to spend a little more time on the legacies of each champion and how their losses are felt in their respective communities. they all have very strong characterization already and i would love to take the time to expand upon it a bit more!! the same goes for the NEW champions (sidon, teba, yunobo, and riju) i'd like to take some more time to expand upon their characters as well!
the sword-claim is the one thing that i don't fully know how to deal with. i think logically, it either has to come before all of the divine beasts, or after all of them. if i put it in before all of the beasts, it would require some gratuitous shrine training montages to convey how much work it takes link to get to the point where he's able to handle the master sword, which would break up the flow of the story and imo isn't very true to the gameplay which usually just has you explore shrines as you find them during your journey. the only other option, though, is to put it in AFTER the divine beasts, which may lessen the impact it has on the story if the only time he ever ends up using it is to defeat ganon. it sort of makes it into a deus ex machina instead of a pervasive element of the story in the way it is in the game. the way that i think i would deal with this is to have link hear about the master sword's legend from npcs as early as that first stable, and have him stumble into the lost woods BEFORE he has trained enough to be able to handle the sword. he finds it, learns what it is and that it's waiting for him, but he isn't able to claim it in his current state. this gives him a tangible goal to work towards for the rest of the story--a reason to continue entering shrines and growing stronger while he's doing divine beast quests. it also allows the master sword to remain present and active in the narrative without forcing link to get too strong too fast. THEN, when he's finished all the divine beasts, he can have a moment like, "i think i'm strong enough now. i'm prepared" and he can go BACK to the lost woods and successfully pull the sword and then go straight to ganon.
aside from the main quest line there are a few really good side quests i want to include as well, notably the kakariko yiga shrine quest and the hylian homeowner/tarrey town side quests. the former i just think is a very impactful storyline and nicely sets up the yiga as villains later on in the gerudo quest, and the latter is imo thematically important as a physical example of link rebuilding his life and watching hyrule continue to grow and heal despite the wreckage of the calamity. ideally this would be the last thing link does before facing the calamity; the wedding scene would end with link deciding the time has finally come for him to face ganon again, having found hope and community, knowing that no matter what happens hyrule will never be broken beyond repair.
the final battle would go similarly to canon, with callbacks to pieces of training link would have received earlier in the story--perfect parries, aerial archery, shield surfing, and all of the champion abilities would be highlighted during the battle, which would come to a triumphant end with ganon finally defeated and link and zelda reunited.
sooo yeah! largely canon-compliant but with certain aspects adjusted for readability. botw has such a strong narrative that it would actually be super easy to adapt imo but that might just be my opinion because i never think about anything else lol

Hi Bard! I've been curious about your thoughts on what kinds of gifts would Daruk/Yunobo give their sweethearts?
Between the both of them? Anything with a Goron ruby lol. It's the pride and joy gem of their people so of course they'd love to see you in it. A headpiece, an armband, a bracelet, anklet, earrings: you name it. But be forewarned: if you accept a Goron ruby from them - this begins the plot for them to start designing your engagement piece 🤭 (mostly because they see how much you love it and they are over the moon at how stunning you look in it).
Now for Daruk specifically - he has always pegged me as someone good with his hands. He's strong, hard working. I think he'd prefer to make you something if he can help it. So say you mention wanting some pots for your garden - he'll make you some from a mixture of lava ash and hot spring water to make these beautiful vermillion clay pots that you can use for planting! Or perhaps you'd like a new fireproof outfit - not a problem. He's consulting Urbosa right away on how to make these things for you (though admittedly he will probably not be the best at sewing and will instead hand over fireproof linens and an idea of what you'd like to wear to one of Urbosa's trusted seamstresses and have them made for you). He likes to think practically, give you things you'll use or can have for a long period of time.
That's not to say Yunobo won't do the same! However, this gentlegoron pays a little more attention to the details. He tends to notice when the types of foods you enjoy or what colors you feel look best on you. While he too doesn't mind having things made for you, he also knows where the expertise lies. So if it's something like an extremely fluffy quilt that you're looking for - he's sending a message to Teba right away and seeing if Misa is able to whip something up over at the Slippery Falcon. Maybe flowers are more your thing - no worries, there are plenty of beautiful flora in Lurelin Village and Ramella thankfully knows Flavi down there very well so she hooks him up with a bouquet of some of the most beautiful petaled pieces you've ever seen!
But then again...some gifts are not always material. Both of these Goron men are very much the type to be crazy about you. So quality time and physical affection are on the menu too. Though not "gifts" in a traditional sense - they fill you (and him!) with the same satisfaction and adoration. Being present with your rockbae and just being held by him, kissed by him, loved by him is a gift in itself, no?

"Hey, Zelda." Link gave the dragon a watery smile, sitting down and patting the fur next to him. "It's been a while, sorry. Penn needed my help with a story."
He blew a strand of hair away from his face, wrapping the wings of his glide suit around him as protection from the wind. "It's stupid that I'm doing this again, isn't it? I spent a year putting off fighting the Calamity, and now I'm just wasting time exploring the Depths and Hyrule again. I found Mineru three months ago, for Hylia's sake." He gave a weak laugh. "Although I don't think Josha would call it a waste. You'd like her."
"I know what you'd tell me– 'The Demon King dealt a great blow against you, Link.'" His voice shifted, mimicking her accent. "'Taking time to recover is not a waste, and if you throw yourself injured into a fight again I'll drag you back by the ear!'"
Zelda let out a low rumble.
"Yeah, yeah, I know you hate it when I do that." He sighed. "But I am nearly healed. Almost all of the gloom's effects are gone, my arm nearly always feels like it's mine." He cleared his throat. "Anyway, have I told you how the others are doing?
"Sidon and Yona are doing pretty well– the official wedding is coming up soon. Sidon's really growing into being king. Yunobo and the kids are doing good too, last I saw, but I haven't been over there in a while."
He rubbed the sages' rings with his thumb. "Tulin's been training pretty hard; I think Teba is getting worried. He reminds me a lot of Revali, actually, with that. I still don't remember much, but I do know that he was always training. Probably just to show me up, but still.
"Riju…" He picked at his nails. "I understand why she gave me access, but I miss being Link, Hylian vai, and not Link, hero of Hyrule and the princess's guard. I don't think most of them have connected the dots, but even if I do find my vai clothes again, it won't be the same. Now that they've seen me as a voe, they'd figure it out right away.
"Is it… weird, that I liked being a girl?" He closed his eyes, leaning back against Zelda's mane. "It was… nice. I don't know how to explain it, but… I wouldn't have minded living in Gerudo Town. Being 'little Hylian vai' for more than just a few trips.
"What do you think Riju would've said if I told her that? Would she have allowed it?" He laughed bitterly. "I'm only telling you this because you can't understand me. Pretty messed up, right?
"I asked Mineru about draconification, if she had found a way to reverse it after all these years. She just looked at me. Probably would've talked me out of coming up here, if she knew. Seems like that type of person."
He sighed. "No more royal line, huh? I think Hyrule will be okay, though. They survived for one hundred years with the Calamity still hanging around, I'm sure they can find a new leader, especially with the groundwork you laid."
He smoothed a hand over her fur. "The kids in Hateno miss you. I haven't told anyone what's happened to you yet. Impa and Cado know, but only because I started crying when I saw your final memory, and they got– worried."
He ran his hands through his hair, dislodging the mask, and sighed. "Do you want to know something weird? I think I saw you before. Flying over Hateno, when the Calamity was still around. I thought it was just Naydra, but… it makes more sense if it was you. It was practically destiny for me to fail you again, huh?"
"Fuck. Fuck." He pressed the palms of his hands against his eyes. "I miss you. I miss seeing you wake up in a bed next to me, I miss hearing you and Purah talk about where the shrines went. I miss seeing you smile, hearing you laugh at my stupid jokes, watching you spend hours focused on your research."
Tears dripped from his hands, falling onto Zelda’s head, and she let out a low, mournful cry. A dam broke, and Link shuddered, resting his head in his arms as the tears poured out.
"I can't do this." He gasped. "I can't pretend everything is normal, when you're gone but you're right here and– and–"
His fists slammed down, but stopped before they could touch her head, instead gently smoothing out along her fur. "I hate this. I hate my arm, I hate how Tulin was forced to grow up, I hate how much Hyrule has changed, I hate how you had to give your life just to fix the sword I broke."
His voice broke. "You're always cleaning up my messes. You held back the Calamity, and now you did this. I should just– just go and find him, before all of this is in vain. Ha, who cares if I'm not ready? As long as that bastard goes down with me, I don't care. We all know I should've just stayed dead."
Zelda growled, long and low.
He wiped his eyes. "Probably just tired of me being up here, aren't you. It's not very comfortable, is it? It's not because you can understand me, I know you can't. Mineru made it very clear that even a moment of lucidity would be impossible.
"But… I'm still coming up here. Still talking to you, like as soon as I beat him everything is going to go back to being normal and fine, even– even though it's not. Even though you'll still be up here, forever. Just a dragon. Never Zelda again."
More tears replaced the ones he had wiped away. "It should have been me, stuck like this. I've always just been a failure, and I saw how strong you were, how your abilities started to grow. If I had– if I had just died fighting against the Calamity like I was supposed to, maybe then you wouldn't even have gone down there and he wouldn't have woken up!"
He sniffled. "Goddesses, what am I supposed to tell people? 'Sorry, Zelda turned into a dragon thousands of years in the past, and no, sorry, only like ten people in the entirety of Hyrule can see her, and yeah, sorry, it's all my fault again.' That's going to go over well."
Zelda growled again, tossing her head.
"I'm sorry. I'll go now." He ran a hand over her mane, smoothing out a few windblown tangles. "...I'll visit you again before I go fight him. Say goodbye. I don't think I'll be coming back from that, and even if you can't understand me, you deserve to know."
He stood up, wiping his face one more time and securing the mask over his eyes, and leapt into the sky.
A low cry echoed from the sky above him, and Link's eyes burned.

EXACTLY
Like adore Tulin but what I loved about BOTW was we had two groups of champions: the ones from the past Link has to remember, and the unofficial new ones you have to bond with in this new Hyrule to get the job done ( Teba, Sidon, Riju, and Yunobo) and it was a neat way to present 2 storylines in a single go while letting the player learn about Hyrule at the same time Link is. We're both discovering and rebuilding but TOTK plowed over everything, making some new older "champions" that remains literally FACELESS because the onus is supposed to be on the people you connected with previously (and though I adored the wind temple, I hate that Teba got pushed to the side in favor of Tulin. He was a counterpart to Revali and we don't get to explore that enough as it is...)
teba is one of the parts of botw that really bothered me LOL all of the other champions have in depth memories and plotlines and characterization and arcs and then you get to tabantha and teba just goes ugh. fine. lets go. and then leaves as soon as you get up there and thats it! thats his whole plotline. he has next to no lines, characterization, or relevance beyond helping you breech vah medoh. and even MORESO in totk where he just goes hey go find tulin. and thats IT LOL
the ancient sages having 0 personality or relevance, especially when it comes to their individual awakening cutscenes, is SO confusing to me. why are they all reading the same script? why are all of the cutscenes identical? is there no culture or perspective you can offer? you experienced the battle the exact same way across the board? why even show them? they dont interact with zelda beyond being asked to put their bodies on the line. they have no narrative weight. they show up and die and thats.. it. why were they even there
but i honestly feel that way about the entire past segment of the plot. idk how into zeldatube you were in the years after breath of the wild, but the zonai got picked up as a topic a few years after botw came out and went through a huge burst of content and theories that went on so long it became an in-joke to mention them- or their characteristic swirls and architecture- and back around to being an earnest exploration of their vague presence in botw... to. that.
they were characterized first and foremost as an exploration of how ruins of a "mysterious tribe" would have worshipped the triforce. secondarily, if we are to believe the barbarians armor was zonai in origin, theyre identified as a "warlike tribe". thats what we have. their architecture is HEAVILY influenced by birds / dragons / boars for the triforce iconography, and they fought their way across hyrule (leaving ruins all over the place).
but in tears of the kingdom, what thorough line do they have? at all? their architecture is COMPLETELY different. they never once mention the triforce. they were seemingly an a-religious tribe that deified their ruler more than any goddesses or golden power. theyre shown to be puritanical largely passive figures, "inherently good."
its at complete odds with everything we knew about them. and its not ever broached. they dont talk about their culture at ALL. the snippets we get are erroneous. the youth partook in tests of courage. the temple of time exists. all of the zonai are dead or left. they can draconify with their stones of power. and thats... it. really.
there are the labyrinths- iirc they were headed by the lord of boars, dragons and? owls? and thats really it. they utilize the same uruborus statues and constructs, but seem like a completely different (and much more familiar) flavor than rauru or mineru. but.. to what end? (and why.. are the labyrinth rewards... meta callback armor???)
why even use the facade of building upon the zonai if youre not using anything established or establishing anything new LOL bizarre use of resources honestly

TotK Dungeon Thoughts!
Finally finished the first four main dungeons. Whether there's more or not, I'll find out, but I thought I'd make a quickly little post on my general thoughts.
More details below, but up here I'll say: It feels like you were 'expected' to complete them Rito-Zora-Goron-Gerudo (very gently tho). However, I think for the most satisfying route, I'd go Goron-Rito-Zora-Gerudo (if nothing else Goron first).
Rito and Tulin
The game pushes you in the direction of the Rito very strongly when you start the game, and I decided to do them first. Over all, a pretty good choice as you run into a lot of good things on the way.
The story itself, I like! I like that you arrive in Rito Village and only the kids are left, really already telling you a lot about what's going on. I like that Teba was left behind because he's the new chief, rip the old Chief. It also makes me very happy how excited Tulin was to see Link, really showing that Tulin looks up to Link. Tulin having wind powers shows that that was not just a Revali thing, just that he was extremely skilled with his own, and I very much like that.
Tulin's power itself is distinct from Revali's Gale. I miss Revali's Gale because of how useful it was to get around, but it also did makes things a little too easy at times, and Tulin's power feels more in tune with the game as it is, as being able to push yourself through the air is useful. Easily the power I use the most of the sages.
The trip up to the Wind Dungeon is a lot of fun. It just barely doesn't overstay it's welcome, and about halfway through there is a shrine so that you can take a break. Over all, it was a lot of fun, though I was hoping that the flying ships we'd seen were going to appear more in the other places in the sky.
The Wind Dungeon itself is, well, it's fine. It's more distinct in style than the divine beasts, which I like, but I did also like the how the divine beasts you could manipulate things. It's give and take, though, and I get that. What mostly bugs me is how every element felt isolated; solving one part of the dungeon did not help me solve another, and that really bugged me, especially since I had a lot of trouble with a couple of the locks (mostly because I'm dumb but that's besides the point).
I like the boss! It felt really good to dive right through the week points, or to be smart enough and a good enough shot to shoot out the weak points from beneath the boss. It also has you utilize Tulin well enough when you need to dodge the boss.
This was my first dungeon, so the ending cutscene with the previous sage was very good and interesting, and I loved that you get to have a shade of the sage to help you fight! It really captures how one of the themes of Tears of the Kingdom is how much Link is not alone.
Goron and Yunobo
Climbing Death Mountain always sucks a little because I hate the armor, but at least the Gorons live in a place where you don't die trying to reach them, so that's a win in my book. The goron quest line is easily my least favorite, hence why I suggest doing it first. I'm also going back and forth on how much/what I'd change.
I think the marbled rock roast is, ugh, fine I guess as a plot point? The biggest problem to me is that the plot lines of the rest of the regions feel very personal, and make you really really worried about the well being of those there. I'm not not concerned for the Goron, but I could definitely be more concerned.
I'm also undecided on how I feel about Yunobo with the mask. When Yunobo first showed up and was mean, I wanted to punch is teeth in. But also, what an interesting take on the character, where over the years he got maybe a little big in the head over his company and his status, and how it's time to bring him down to earth again. The mask breaking off and him being nice again, I was happy to see my nice friend again, but also he was more or less the same as when I'd last seen him.
The up Eldin Volcano sucked, I totally didn't understand what I was supposed to do with the monster on top of the volcano at first, which made it a little frustrating at first. The mini battle itself was fine enough, though, and flying on the machines is always fun.
Going through the Depths to the Fire Dungeon sucked. I wasn't a huge fan of that, it just felt like padding. Why not put me there just right away?
The Fire Dungeon, like everything else, was fine I guess. I like rails and minecarts a lot, but a lot of the tracks felt too short honestly to be much fun, and sometimes I'd give up navigating them and just straight up climb the sides of the buildings to get where I needed to go. The boss fight, on the other hand, i thought was really nice! It felt good to put Yunobo's power to so much use, it flowered pretty well, It felt both challenging but also like I was prepared for it.
Zora and Sidon
Seeing Zora's Domain all swamped in shit water was a shock and I love how shocking it was and how upset it made me to see the place in such a state. I was immediately invested in finding out what had happened to cause this and how I could help. The statue in Zora's domain with Link and Sidon is great (even if I was worried at first where Mipha's had gone) and SO FUNNY to see it and meet Sidon's fiancee right afterwards.
I like that Yona gets a mantaray head - it immediately sets her off as different from most of the other Zora, and she and her attendents have different armor than the Hyrule Zora. She's a little simplistic as a character, but over all I like her. I another small detail I like is that the child Zora are playing in the water in the throne room, and that room seems to be some of the cleanest water, and I like to imagine that was on purpose. We also see here that healing is magic many Zora have, which I like, but also that it seems hard for them.
Sidon trying so hard to heal as much water as he can, and be the only one putting his life on the line so no one else dies like Mipha, was just so good. It's great set up in BotW, and pay off here of how traumatizing of an experience that was. Again, I like that Yona got to be like 'I know you, Sidon, and I know youre trauma, and I know what you want to and should do in this situation, so do it'.
Getting to the dungeon was so fun! The floaty jumping was a little weird at times, but over all I loved it and gave the path such a distinct feel, a lot like the path to the Wind Dungeon.
The Water Temple was the easiest in my opinion (none of them were overly hard, but this felt really quick to me) (also the Lightning Temple is a close second) ((ALSO ALSO some of that can probably be attributed to me just getting more used to the game and the kind of thought processes it asks of you)) but I thought the way it worked was pretty good. The boss was also very funny, as you were totally set up to expect a like like and instead got the weirdest octorock you've ever seen, and you're pushed to use Sidon's power in a way that feels very natural, though I haven't used it much after this dungeon tbh.
Gerudo and Riju
Going through the desert and seeing the Gerudo Town so destroyed was devastating. This was also where the gibdo were introduced, a suitably creepy enemy for such a scary thing going on. However, they don't stun you. This makes some sense since they show up in such hoards, but also takes away a lot of the scariness of them, and they're almost laughably easy to beat after they've been hit by some kind of elemental attack. Again, I was immediately concerned and wanted to do whatever I could to help the Gerudo. I like that you didn't have to really sneak in (except at first) because you've earned their trust by now and these are extenuating circumstances.
Buliara is one of my fav characters (she was really important in a fanfic I was working on where a new Gerudo male was born) so getting to see her and her specifically vouching for Link absolutely made my day. I like that the Gerudo are utilizing the underground bunker - in general, I love all the times in the game emergency things like that are broken out because these are hard times. Riju, a little older now and training hard, but not frustrated or feeling (at least not acting like) she thought she wasn't good enough was great. She wasn't hitting the mark, but she seemed just focused on training until she could.
The way to the Lightning Temple was okay, It wasn't bad but it wasn't note worthy, although I did like that you got to see the boss before you actually fought her. The best part was when Link had to help defend Gerudo Town from the gibdo. I'm not sure I did actually put together the best plan, but I felt like I helped, and getting the spoils afterwards made it even better.
The temple was a bit weird to navigate, and I'm not even sure I solved everything the way it was 'supposed' to go, but I did it so hey, what more can you ask for. The boss was pretty good, although she was, like, very bug like, and I think it made you kind of go 'oh, the gibdo aren't humans, they're bugs' which further makes them a little less creepy in my opinion.
General/Final Thoughts
Over all, I thought the dungeons felt a lot more like Zelda dungeons than the divine beasts did, and I like them well enough. I wish they were a little trickier, but also I wasn't overly bugged by them being too easy. Each dungeon felt very distinct, which I loved, and you never think you're in one place over the other.
Honestly, my biggest problem is with the Sages. I wish we 1) got names for them or learned more about them and 2) I wish the little cutscenes were a little more distinct.
The end of each dungeon goes: here's the sage, the sage was in the fight and won, Sage of Time told them to recreuit their descendent, wow didn't the Sage of Time look like Zelda? I understand this is because you could visit any dungeon in any order, but I think they would've, like, shown the Sage was in charge of something specific, show more of how the war impacted them specifically, something or anything to make that part more distinct.
Uh, so yeah, I like them, I think they're mostly an improvement over BotW (they both have pros and cons, though, and there are defo things that BotW did better than TotK). Let me know your thoughts about the dungeons if you want! (without spoiling anything past them please ^-^)

ignore the follow thing i pressed the wrong button. link and paya. what happen. actually link's relationship with the champion successors/descendants
no….. my internet clout…!!!! IM…. FLOPPING… HOW COULD THIS BE…. (/joking)
AND GOOD QUESTION!! though i am sorry to say link and paya barely interact. if/when they do its around the later spectrum of the. timeline? story? but they just met once and that was kind of the extent of it. mmmaybe theyd both clean sometimes? if he does the shrine quest by helping people out. she. would be more friends with zelda probably. speaking of he might talk with her more mainly about a plan about. what now once the calamity is gone. and then ask for recipes <3. later arcs she might start to send letters out of worry once the calamity is “over” because he’d just kind of. disappear? i should clarify this isnt out of romantic love or anything (she was done so dirty and for what) but like. being kind of scared that a semi absent coworker or classmate just stops showing up. for awhile you might get used to it but eventually when the time passes youll have to ask where they went. she’d probably be blunt about asking in a . polite way. but yeah. zelda wise i think i think theyd just hang out sometimes. paya cant really be a substitute for ancient sheikah work but they just get along well enough that zelda initiates meetings by going “deconstructing (guardian) isvgoing badly. help” and itll basically be explaining code to a rubber duck deal. paya gives either a sanity check or a second perspective which is nice. and paya can talk about whats going on around her when its just a hangout session. i dunno i think they could make a neat duo especially when talking about problems/confronting them. when pushed hard enough paya wont give the polite/avoidant answer, and zelda could need the bluntness if that makes sense.
champions descendants!!!! honestly its. pretty well id say? uhhh firstly my link didnt get the thunder helm because well. thats Their Thing. so how this affects the. story? i dont know. but yeah its alright. he sees teba mostly by proxy, but teba is the one he sees the most. because he isnt like a royal person and hes Just Some Guy it makes talking a lot easier, both physically and mentally. riju hed… sort of see the second most? im genuinely debating whether or not link being able to get into gerudo town should be a thing in this au. i would like to redo gerudo town as a whole but that will take time. for now i like to think he just. gave a letter to one of the guards with the gist of it. and he completed the quest without ever going inside town. the only times hed really talk to her post that is if gerudo town is in need of resources that he can easily get, or ice. otherwise not many letters or anything, but theyre on pretty good terms. he sometimes gets to send fruit for patricia. next would be yunobo! youd think its be easier to talk to him however theyd both have nothing to talk about to each other. its basically friendly but silent terms unless necessary. last is sidon. i am so sorry sidon….. the only way theyd really interact is if sidon himself initiated the conversation/letter chain. otherwise with link actively avoiding zoras domain.. . the line blurs between friends and business partners for all of them. if they traveled together i think theyd all be better friends but i dunno if thats going to happen. they probably play a bigger. role?? in this au than im giving them credit for honestly. also i couldve sworn i had Thoughts but i forgot…… once the calamity is defeated i think itd be a bit of a mess, though how much of one i dont know

Hello Beautiful Beasties! You don't have to give your opinion to my rambling, but you are welcome to.
I finished my first big LOZ fic a while back and want to do another once Smut-tember and Whumptober are over, but a very smut filled one. I have two WIPs that I started nearly a year ago, but can't seem to pick one to finish first.
Choice A: "My Heart Is Yours" Gan/Link (botw), Modern AU, some Sid/Link that doesn't last, lots of smut, angst, some whump and definitely need to read the tag warnings. Everyone is in an Hylian form.
Rough Summary: Link and Zelda become friends in an orphanage and later meet Sidon, Mipha, Yunobo, Teba and Riju all becoming best of friends. Sidon and Link begin dating and run into some issues along the way with Sidon's stress at the Police Academy and Link not sticking to a solid job. There's an argument between the two and Link runs away, landing in a stranger's, Ganon's, welcoming arms. They build a life together: marriage, adopt two kids ect. Zelda doesn't believe Link stayed away so long by his own free will, blames Ganon and is out for blood. Drastic actions cause drastic consequences, turning Link's world upside down. Truths come out and justice is served, though the damage is done. Time heals wounds and it all ends with the smuttiest scene in the whole story.
Choice B: "Hero Of Sand" Gan/Link (botw), the LU boys are in it, Link/Link, omegaverse so of course there's heats and M-preg and all the things that go with that, tags aren't as needed but still suggest reading the tags because there lots of angst and whump in this one.
Rough Summary: When Link died in BOTW it created a split in the timeline, causing there to be three hero stories: Hero of the Wild, Hero of Champions (Age of Calamity game) and the Hero of Sand. A baby Link is abandoned in the desert where young child Ganon finds him and brings him home. Urbosa, Gan's mother, helps but never calls him hers. As they grow up together and become of age, they marry and have several daughters. The Yiga cause trouble in the worst way, resulting in Gan taking the crown. The LU boys get dropped outside of the desert and find theirself fighting the Yiga alongside Sand not knowing who he is. Their arrival unfortunantly cause Ganon's past selves memories to come forward and has to fight against himself to not repeat history… history repeats and Sand has to defeat his husband and Alpha. A twist of fate changes everything in the darkest moment.
Keep it Naughty you Beautiful Beasties!🖤

my thoughts on TOTK because i need to ramble about it somewhere and my friend hasn't finished it yet
SPOILERS
i'm gonna go through the main quests/parts as i completed them
1) the opening, Great Sky Island, Temple of Time and landing in Hyrule
it made me really really really happy to see that Link and Zelda were still around each other like this, exploring stuff together and all. the awakening cutscene gave me chills and really all i could think about was finding Zelda.
discovering the Great Sky Island was fun, though i was used to my comfort in BOTW so it was quite a shock to not have the paraglider and get one-shot by literally anything. but i guess that's normal
then i really liked meeting Rauru though i missed having at least a clue of what was going on. like in BOTW, the king tells you "alright, the world is shit because this happened, Zelda is over there waiting for you, now u do u". there i had this feeling of being absolutely clueless for the first few hours of gameplay and it was frustrating at times.
Lookout Landing was a heartwarming sight, seeing people rebuild and stuff genuinely made me smile. i did feel a pinch in my heart when i recognized that it was built on the very ground where Link swore his oath as Zelda's appointed knight. but overall it was great and i loved the concept of the new towers.
2) the Temples and Sages
i started with Rito Village and the Wind temple. i love Tulin with all my heart and i have to say i use his ability the most. the temple was a pain to access and the cold was annoying but i had a blast with the boss battle. didn't really use Tulin's help there because it was really easy to do on my own but i enjoyed having a supporter during the fight.
i was favorably surprised when i found out that Tulin's clone would accompany me forever. BOTW was a pretty lonely game. peaceful and beautiful but lonely nonetheless. also seeing Teba give his son the Great Eagle Bow made me emotional i admit. i wish there were more references to Revali (and the Champions in general) but eh at least he has a Landing named after him. also where did the Flight Range go?
next i went to Goron City. it felt strange to not instantly catch on fire but well, i was happy with no more elixirs and ugly outfits (not a fan of the fireproof set). the battle against the 3 headed monster in Death Mountain was awesome and it reminded me of how fun it was to yeet Yunobo around. speaking of which i was so relieved when i got him back to normal because that rock boi is precious and seeing him being mean was not cool.
the Temple was a bit annoying tbh, i got lost in the rail system so i just went and monkeyed around climbing everything and flying everywhere. the boss fight was also quite forgettable though i liked using Yunobo's ability more. again, there was zero mention of Daruk (that i remember) and Daruk's Protection has been entirely forgotten. i know the goal isn't to live in the past but i find it sad to see it pretty much forgotten about in some areas.
after that i went to Zora's Domain and had fun yeeting splash fruit at the sludge. i almost had a heart attack when i saw that the Mipha statue had been replaced but i was so thrilled to see it relocated to where the Lynel used to be. they really built her a splendid memorial and she can really watch over her people from there.
i had missed Sidon and his smile, and helping Yona bringing him back to his true optimistic charming self was really great. i liked that since the Zora live long lives, everyone remembered me (Link) more than in other parts of Hyrule. oh and Sidon's coronation had me smiling ear to ear because i was so proud of my fish brother.
i had so much fun in the temple and its weird gravity, sometimes i go back just to jump around and dive in slow motion. the boss fight was correct, though it was annoying to go so slow through sludge.
finally, i made my way to Gerudo Town. the gibdos surprised me but by pure luck i had a fire lizalfos horn weapon equipped so i was never in any real danger. i loved organizing the defenses of Gerudo Town and fighting alongside Riju's warriors.
i loved seeing how Riju had grown since we last saw her, she and Tulin were like my young niblings and seeing them grow made me so proud. again i don't remember any tribute to Urbosa but seeing Riju's dual Scimitars of the Seven was a nice touch so i didn't say anything.
the temple was really cool and the boss fight made me rage quit once or twice so i consider it to be awesome. i thought i was gonna throw my Switch against the wall but then i remembered Zelda needed me so i took a breath and went back to the fight.
overall i really liked this part of the game, seeing my old new friends was very heartwarming and having their clones follow me in my daily life made the game so much less lonely than BOTW was.
3) Tears of the Dragon
no. i am still sobbing, throwing up, rolling on the floor. no. seeing Zelda finding not one but 2 loving parental figures only to lose them 20 min later, Ganondorf's ascension, Rauru's sacrifice, ZELDA'S SACRIFICE ABZBZBFKGNDKDLS I WAS NOT READY. i didn't find the memories in chronological order so when i found the one that hinted what was going to happen to Zelda i rushed them all and stayed up until like 4 am to see them all. the final one tore me apart and i basically cried myself to sleep (not really but almost). i actually had to go spoil myself online just to put my mind at ease because like what if we could never get her back???
after that and the Master Sword quest, whenever i saw Zelda not too far from a tower i'd go see her and rest on her head for a little while while imagining Link talking to her.
i was at a point where i didn't really know what to do with myself, i still had Gerudo Town to visit but eh i was a bit sick of boss battles at the moment. seeing the memories remotivated me and pushed me to finish the main quests as fast as possible to get Zelda back.
4) the Master Sword
as eager as i was to just go and beat up Ganondorf, i couldn't imagine doing it without my trursty blade, and also the reason why Zelda sacrificed herself. so i decided to go see the Great Deku Tree so seek counsel. after a quick in and out trip to the depth, i found a dying tree in no shape to answer my questions.
Phantom Ganon handed my ass to me a few times but once i got his attack patterns right, it all went smooth like a baby's butt cheek.
getting the Master Sword from Zelda's head made me so emotional, i had just seen a fanart of that scene where Link let himself fall while crying and clutching the sword against his heart. that was how i felt it really.
5) the Depths and Fifth Sage
so after crying my eyes, heart, lungs and intestines out, i had to continue investigating to know where the hell Ganondorf was. that led me to the Depth, searching for all the abandonned mines and everything. on the way i had fun in the battles against Kohga, i had missed his ridiculous... him.
i'm not the biggest fan of the Depths but hey, you can find pretty awesome stuff down there so i do spend a lot of time farming Zonaite and throwing Brightbloom seeds around.
finding and assembling Mineru's construct felt a bit ehh. the shrine like puzzles to get the limbs were thankfully not too long but really all i wanted was to get over with it. funny enough i was fully prepared for a big twist like Mineru revealing that she was with Ganondorf and having to fight the construct i had just built myself.
what i got was even better. like mech fight??? hello?? that was awesome though it took me some time to get the controls down. but ah as a kid who grew up playing Solatorobo, riding the construct was just cbfkdkd SO COOL.
6) the Final Fight
i'll just focus on the battles because the way to get to the Gloom's Lair or whatever was just like yeah sure go off i guess. chasing Zelda through the Castle was just a delay of what i knew would happen underground and then i mostly dodged the monsters except the Lynel because come on who has time for that.
the. EPIC. BATTLE. AGAINST. AN ENTIRE. ARMY. my Goddess fighting hordes and hordes of monsters alongside my friends with the most epic music was just so euphoric and cathartic and just fullfilling ahhhhgg. when i saw the temple bossed coming back to life i was gully prepared to take them on with my friends but nope, the game had other plans for me.
and what plans oh bloody hell this FIGHT? THAT is what i call a boss battle. in BOTW, Ganon wasn't hard to kill. like it had taken me less than 5 tries i think, 3 of them being just to learn the fight's mechanics. but here? the first part i got quickly, after all it was just a one on one against a (large) human sized villain. the pace was slow, there was no music, in a word : a warmup.
then he activates his secret stone and turns into a human emo LED. alright sure. and then his health bar replenishes. AND KEEPS GOING. i was expecting it to just go beyond the screen border at this point. and oh the clones, how many times did i accidentally get killed by one of them. having my friends fight them for me was cool but too many times i ended up ignoring them and taking a lost bullet becayse of that.
then comes the real 1v1 againt the Demon King. THAT was the fight i'd been waiting for. the final confrontation between the Hero and Evil, the final battle that would- he can Flurry Rush? what do you mean he can Flurry Rush?? alright then, i'll just be careful, good thing i have a good shield haha HE CAN FLURRY RUSH MY FLURRY RUSH?????? HOW WHAT WHY WTF ah at least i can Flurry Rush his Flurry Rush that he Flurry Rushed from my Flurry Rush. McFlurry.
after at least 20 tries, tears and a break because my left index was sore from keeping my shield up, i finally got to deal a final strike. and then oh my GODDESS THIS PART
Zelda rushes to my aid and together we face that giant Demon Dragon. she soars, allowing me to dive and land right next to one of the Demon's weak point. i attack it, then bet blown off. Zelda gets me back and we repeat the maneuver 3 times. finally, i dive one last time to the Demon's head and shatter the Secret Stone.
no more Demon, no more Ganondorf, it really is over this time.
7) the End
is it? the sky is peaceful, as i, behind my screen, thank the princess for her help and tell her that we succeded, i start floating off of her head. Rauru and Sonia appear and somehow channel their magic through my arm.
and there she is. my princess. my Zelda. the one i travelled through Sky, Land and Depth to find. the one i've been chasing for (in game) months (days irl).
and she's falling. shit. so i dive as fast as i can, i extend my freshly restored arm and.... i got her! a perfect echo to the opening, an exquisite parallel, i took so many screenshots of this scene and i will cherish them forever.
then i watched the last cutscenes, my Zelink heart that was already screaming exploded when i saw Link gently put Zelda down on the grass. she wakes up, sees Link, looks around and... "you really did it" no princess, we did it together. "Oh Link... i'm home" AAAAAHAHBBFNDKDBBF I SCREAMED i really screamed and thank the Goddess that i live alone because it was again 4am and had i been at my parent's place, Zelda's smile would have been the last thing i'd seen before certain death (not that i would have minded). i wish i could hug my princess in that moment. yes, you're home. i promised i'd get you back when i saw your memories so here you are. and you're never leaving me again.
end credits, i use that time to process what i just lived. then i watch the post credit cutscene, shed a tear watching Mineru rest in peace and the new Sages swear their oath. everything's good now.
and then i'm transported back to Castle Chasm. yay.
Additional 1) the Gameplay
as an engineering student, i had been waiting for this game for so long (only could play it a month after release because of finals) and it didn't disappoint. well to be honest i was used to BOTW's controls and though they were similar here, i missed using the cross' top arrow to pick a rune. minor stuff like that. BUT WHO CARE WHEN YOU CAN BUILD CARS, PLANES, ROCKETS AND TORTURE DEVICES
i fully started enjoying vehicle building when i expanded my battery. from then on i was unstoppable, roaming around Hyrule on my Turbo Deadly Flying Tricycle that shoots fire and laser beams.
also i'm a pretty peaceful being but i have to admit that nailing a Korok to a cross and pulling it around with your horse like "do you have time for our Lord and Savior Korok Christ?" is really really fun.
Additional 2) the World
also i loved the additions they made to the stables like the Pony Points system. and ah finally i don't have to talk to this random girl to change my saddle.
i'm a sucker for fantasy sky island so i was so happy to see some in Hyrule sky. though i wish there were a bit more or at least some bigger ones. Great Sky Island was nice but then in other regions, aside from a shrine here and a dispenser there i didn't spend a lot of time up tthere.
Hyrule was at the same time the good old same and a totally new and foreign place. cities and villages were in the same place but they were so different. Tarrey Town had grown so much (btw fuck you Rail Car guy i built this place you should pay ME). Kakariko had its new Ring Ruins, Hateno had developped a mushroom frenzy... AND ZELDA HAS STOLEN MY HOUSE??? HAY PRINCESS YOU HAVE A CASTLE AT LEAST LET ME HAVE THIS oh? is that my hair tie? and... you're writing about me in your diary? oh so we live together... alright then all good! also seeing the photo from Champion's Ballad exactly where i hung it in BOTW brought a tear to my eye. no, our omd friends aren't forgotten. and they will always be home.
i'll stop there because i'm hungry and i've been rambling for an hour and a half but this game is just so so so good. the story touched me a bit less than that of BOTW for some reason but it did make me emotional af. i wish we had a postgame which solely consists of completing the secondary adventures and like... farming in Hateno Village with Zelda but eh, be grateful for what you have i told myself. i think i will go have a cutscene marathon starting with Age of Calamity now.
Additional 3) the Side Quests
while i ignored most of them (will get to them eventually no worry about that), i particularly appreciated the Monster Control ones and the Lurelin line. these quests really made me feel how important community and cooperation are in this game. because you have your own community of heroes with the Sages and also the researchers, people who are in the heart of the story but there you get to see other communities. the losers with a valiant heart, fighting silver moblins with mops and buckets as helmets, the exiled fishermen who lost their town but with your help get to rebuild their home etc. this makes this game whole because it reminds you that yeah, there are always epic tales of legendary heroes, dramatic tragedies and heroic sacrifices but there are also smaller, equally as important stories. there's the story of how anyone can rise up and fight monsters and there's the story of how to rebuild your home after it was totally destroyed. and you get to be a part of all these stories, big or small. and that's beautiful.
also i liked stealing Zelda's horse again. you took my house i take your horse, fair is fair.

I updated the very first fanfic I ever wrote, the one that started with Swimming Lessons. It's still called TBD on AO3 because I'm still not sure where it's going other than whump and BAMF BotW Zelda.
But it WILL cameo flower lady Magda vs two Yiga... mostly offscreen, but I love her. I look forward to that.
Chapter 2 is mostly fluff, so here you are:
TBD (11662 words) by SkipBreaker Chapters: 8/? Fandom: The Legend of Zelda & Related Fandoms, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence Relationships: Link/Zelda (Legend of Zelda), Impa & Zelda (Legend of Zelda) Characters: Link (Legend of Zelda), Zelda (Legend of Zelda), Impa (Legend of Zelda), Riju (Legend of Zelda) Additional Tags: Whump, Competent Yiga Clan (Legend of Zelda), Gerudo Desert (Legend of Zelda), Gerudo Outfit, Angst and Romance, Sheik is Zelda Summary: Who is Zelda, without a Kingdom or Calamity? Who is Link without the Champions and a clear mission?
Chapter 2: Sunset at Lurelin (fluff) Sunset painted the Lurelian sea and sky in brilliant pink and orange strokes. They faded slowly to deep purple and gray shadows. In some parts of Hyrule, sunsets looked too much like an ugly bruise turning yellow and purple, or a fresh wound, full of red. But here, the colors radiated across the sea and sky, and every cloud seemed alive.
“I love twilight,” Zelda sighed, “And I like it here most of all. I can see why you came here so often,” Zelda said, “to find peace. I stood with you, though you could not see me, to say goodbye to them. And yet,” she shook her head slight, “yet it is completely different with mortal eyes. Mortal…thoughts.”
He blushed. He hadn’t known she’d see quite so many of his adventures. What had she not seen?
“This was as far as I’d ever reached, and only near the end. It sort of… helped me to wake up, after so long. It’s strange to know a person so well and yet never speak until so recently. Of all the things I missed, my voice was quite high on that list,” she smiled. They both knew how she loved to fill any silence with her thoughts.
He didn’t want her to feel nervous about doing all the talking yet again.
“I did hear you, sometimes,” Link answered. It felt good to talk about it with someone who understood all that he’d seen. He didn’t have to take hours explaining things to her as he would have for so many others. Sidon, Teba, Yunobo, they understood some, but the whole… she knew the most: their regret, their loss, their hope, their journey. It was a secret language. One side-eye and one word from her could make him spit his food out, laughing. And vice versa.
“Really? Besides when you first woke up? That was quite difficult. By the end I was regaining my body. It was much easier by then.”
“Every Blood Moon, I heard you,” Link said, and he watched her blush, and he felt a little bolder, “Goddess knew how I needed to hear something friendly those nights. Everything I did to help save people…all of it coming undone over and over, knowing people would get hurt, slowing down all our work.”
She put her arm around him.
He stiffened at first, but her hug was so compassionate, so friendly, he slowly relaxed into it.
They watched the sun disappear. They trekked back down to the Inn and Zelda moved their beds closer so they could reach across the gap between them. It was simply part of their routine now to stay within arm’s reach. Link paid several of the villagers to keep watch through the night outside while Zelda wrote in her diary. Link added a few notes to his own records with a smile, and Zelda nodded approvingly as he finished and closed the book.
“Did you include the part where the children tried to eat me?” She asked as he brought the candle closer to her.
“No, but I’m sure the Royal Record has a full account as of tonight. May it never be forgotten,” He chuckled.
“We shall commission a tapestry,” she said, her laughter softening. She closed her diary, blew out the candle, and settled into her blankets,
“And thank you, Link, for encouraging me to agree. I don’t know why the sea makes me so uneasy. I think… I think it might be because…whenever Father told me about the sea, he described it in such a terrifying way. It sounded like a nightmare. Only knowing you’d be here made it feel somewhat safe to come. And then seeing children playing so freely in the water…I’m learning that so much of his description was grossly exaggerated. He made it sound like a place of death, where waves could grab you and hold you down, sharks waited from the shore to eat you, and even the sand would swallow you whole. I wonder if he just never wanted me to ask him to bring me here. Just another distraction.
Silence caught and held the sadness in her voice.
“I guess he truly wanted nothing to impede my duty saving Hyrule,” she sighed after some silence.
Link reached a hand over to her bed, and she took it.
“That’s true,” he agreed, “And you did. And next it’s your turn to decide where we make up for those lost years; after one more day of putting up with sand in Gerudo, that is.”
“Uhg! I still feel like a blade is going to find me every time I touch sand. I was so foolish for trying to run away from you,” He rubbed her fingers with his thumb, and she sighed. He sat up a little, remembering something new. He whispered, “None of us knew you were being hunted. You can’t blame yourself for what you don’t know. None of the reports I read indicated their resurgence. I remember…feeling…surprised.”
The ocean’s soft shushing drew them away from dark memories and into peaceful thoughts.
“Time to make new memories,” Link mumbled as he drifted into dreams.
She pondered his words in silence, and soon they both fell asleep.

Actually I wanna talk about the gang and the languages they know
Ganondorf- Bilingual. His first language is Gerudo and speaks it pretty fluently. Second language is Hylian and speaks fluently as well though he has a slight accent
Sheik- Bilingual. Her first language is Hylian cause Ganondorf was speaking to him in that language as well as others in the forest when raising him. Sheik also learned Gerudo from his dad but can’t really hold a conversation talking Gerudo, only understanding it. Though Sheik is very intrigued on learning new languages especially old ones.
Mipha- Trilingual . She speaks Hylian mostly but also knows to speak her native Zora language. She also learned the old Sheikah language through the Queen of Hyrule so it can be easier to understand the Divine Beast when piloting. Mipha is also studying the old Zora language.
Sidon- Monolingual. Sidon only speaks Hylian. And can’t really read or understand the Zora language.
Yunobo- Monolingual. Yunobo only speaks in Hylian though he is learning to speak in his native Goron language as well as the old Goron language.
Tarú- Multilingual (4 languages). It’s common for Gorons to learn many languages. Tarú’s native language is Goron. He later on learned Gerudo by Ganondorf, Zora through Mipha, and Hylian just by anyone really.
Teba- Bilingual. Teba’s first language is Old Hylian. This language is more common to speak in the southern side of Hyrule like the Faron region where he grew up. Naturally he also learned Hylian once he moved to the Rito Village.
Skall- Monolingual. She only speaks Hylian, though she wishes to learn the Hebra Rito language.
Riju- Monolingual. Riju only speaks in Hylian but she is learning the Gerudo language.
Nabooru- Bilingual. She speaks Gerudo and Hylian. Though Nabooru speaks Gerudo more fluently than Hylian.
Urbosa- Trilingual. Urbosa speaks Gerudo and Hylian pretty fluently. She also learned the old Sheikah language through the Queen of Hyrule.
Revali. Bilingual. Revali knows Hylian and the Tabantha Rito language fluently. He knows a bit of the old Sheikah language through the Queen of Hyrule as well.
Daruk- Multilingual (6 languages). Daruk’s native languages are Goron and Old Goron. He later on learned Gerudo, Zora, and Hylian and speaks it fluently. He can also read the old Sheikah language through the help of the Queen of Hyrule

For @zelinkweekofficial day three prompt rainy days.
Sooth Your Aches
The pattering rain drew Link out of his dreams. Sometimes they were memories that had come back after his time in the Shrine of Resurrection, other times he dreamed of whatever story his subconscious decided to create. This time, hazy memories mixed with fantasy created scenes where he defeated monsters as a giant wolf and trying to navigate the Lost Woods resulted in him coming out where he had entered. But the rain, pattering softly against the roof above him, turned his dreams into the semi-conscious memories of the night before. That to him was a better way to wake up than the feeling of koroks staring as you run in circles, though the sound of rain wasn’t quite as pleasant as it had once been.
Even with his eyes closed and blankets tucked around him, Link knew it was going to rain all day. Old wounds ached dully, and his knees creaked as he shifted across the bed. His time fighting had long-since come to an end, though the reminders came out on days when the dampness seeped into his home. It would take a steady warmth to drive away the pain and loosen his age-stiffened limbs. Even though it was only ten years since defeating the Calamity, Link’s body had begun to feel the affects of every injury he had collected since his hundred year slumber. Reaching across the bed, Link found more coldness and frowned at the empty side of the bed. Zelda had come back from the capital the evening prior, her role as head of the council was a compromise to the former princess’ want of building a different Hyrule than it had been over a hundred years ago.
That new Hyrule didn’t have the same structures of nobility or single monarchy, and instead had representatives from each of Hyrule’s people and settlements. Disagreements had arisen from the clashing goals of people who had only been connected by sporadic trading, but Zelda along with Impa’s help had created a unity that Link had only seen in Tarry Town before the Calamity’s Defeat. While the council had their demands, Link had encouraged Zelda to continue her research, the memories of her passion for learning resurfacing every time she stopped to study an insect or plant that caught her attention. The thought of Zelda shoving a caterpillar in his face, much like the seventeen-year-old of his broken memories had done with a frog, had him smiling into his pillow. He would happily consume any amount of strange creature to see her smile everyday instead of the seemingly little between her trips to the rebuilt Castletown.
Link had no mind for politics and had refused the offer of council membership. Even though many of the council considered him an honorary member. Sidon, Yunobo and Teba especially deferred to him on matters of defense, while Riju just liked his company to chat about sand seals. In the end, while Link would occasionally pay a visit to his friends when they were at Castletown, he had only helped reform the broken military and train its members at the request of Zelda. The very woman who was not in bed next him on this rainy morning.
She had come back late the night before, looking tired and frustrated after almost a month of dealing with what she called ‘silly political spats.’ It had been so late that after a small meal, the two had simply gone to bed without much ceremony. Surely Zelda hadn’t gone back already? Raising his head, the scent of warm honey and cinnamon met him. Resigning himself to the aches, Link pushed himself off the bed. Slowly dressing, Link eased stiff limbs down the loft of their shared bedroom into the kitchen. The sight of his wife plating biscuits, tea, fruit, and butter onto a tray.
“I was going to bring these up to you,” Zelda’s smile was warmer than the fire in the hearth, “but we can have breakfast down here instead.”
Eagerly, Link settled into a chair closest to the fire. He got a laugh out of Zelda when he pulled her into his lap after feigning a grab at the biscuit plate. His wife readjusted in his lap, buttering a still warm biscuit, and offering him the second half.
“You’re baking has improved since those first charcoal lumps you made,” he said, the tease easy between them.
Zelda flushed pink, playfully smacking the arm around her waist. He pressed a kiss to her cheek in response, reaching for another biscuit at the same time.
“Well, it has been ten years. I was bound to improve eventually. Besides, it’s only fair that you get a nice breakfast sometimes and you seemed comfortable,” Zelda said, rubbing the sore spot on his shoulder sending another wave of warmth through his body.
“I would’ve been more comfortable if you had stayed,” he replied, holding her to himself as Zelda attempted to move away.
“Link, my elixir will overcook if you don’t let me go,” Zelda smiled despite the urgent whine of her voice.
Sighing dramatically, Link let her go and she hurried to the pot that hung above the fire. He watched as she poured an orange liquid into small vials, one of which she set in front of him. Link had seen the expression currently painted across her face enough times to know he was meant to drink. The still warm elixir tasted better than some of the others he’d used, but the taste of bitter fruit was a stark contrast from her biscuits. Warmth spread through him, easing the stiff joints and sore muscles of his body. He tested a limb, moving slowly in anticipation of the dull aches he was used to on rainy days, but none came. Springing to his feet, Link scooped Zelda and spun her around their shared kitchen.
“I take it the elixir works?” his answer was only to spin her again before setting her back down.
“I wanted something to ease the discomfort you’ve mentioned. It took some time, but it seems I managed to formulate the right amount,” Zelda said.
“It seems you have,” Link agreed, “is the offer to go back to bed still open? Or do I have to finish breakfast first?”
Her answer was to pick up the tray and move towards the stairs. Link eagerly followed, never one to pass up breakfast wherever it was set. Once finished, he set to work taking advantage of Zelda’s elixir to thoroughly show her how he’d missed her while away. By the evening, the rain had stopped, and Link peeled himself away from a napping Zelda to begin dinner. Since she had surprised him with breakfast, he decided that her favorite dinner and followed by a fruitcake were in order.
As he began the batter all he could think was if every rainy day was like this, then he would endure stiff morning joints and days with an empty bed.

The Origin Of Trust
A happy belated birthday to @dwandlozfan !!! Sorry it took so long. It kind of got out of hand!
It was like no time had passed.
Link stood near the exit of Impa’s abode with not a single freckle to blemish his stoic expression. He stood like a statue, eyes glazed over yet focused and determined at the same time. This was not the man who, just a month ago, was outside burning bokoblin guts with the Sheikah youth Koko.
Zelda spoke, but Impa’s ears were bored of listening. Though she was grateful to see her long-lost friend not only safe but rested, Zelda’s visit was formal, and the way she treated her knight attendant of a hundred years ago was even more so.
“I would like to unify Hyrule stronger than…”
Pleasantries. Formalities. Impa pretended to listen out of respect. Zelda was repeating herself, saying the same things over and over but with different words. Impa got the gist. Zelda wanted to bring Hyrule together without a kingdom, but with more democratic things such as committees that talk and ambassadors that listen, not the other way around. It all sounded great but Impa couldn’t help but wonder as she looked at this teenager - this life of politics Zelda all but ran away from a hundred years ago, would it truly make her happy now? Is she doing this out of obligation, out of necessity? Has she gotten enough rest?
“…full confidence that we’ll see significant improvements within the year,” Zelda finished, coming to a natural stopping point.
“All that sounds fantastic, Zelda,” Impa said, swallowing her doubts. Inquiring after Zelda’s true life goals may come off as disbelief in her abilities. Perhaps this is what Zelda truly wants. Surely Link told her she doesn’t have to step into a such a role, so she chose this herself? Right?
“How can I help?” Impa said. Her gaze had drifted to Link, so it quite accidentally looked like she asked him. He didn’t notice, as his gaze was straightforward. Zelda didn’t seem to mind as she replied.
“I would like to start by inquiring after your opinion on potential Sheikah involvement.” This girl was ridiculous. She needn’t be so formal! Impa remembered a time where they would prank soldiers by putting live frogs in their helmets.
But Impa carried on nodding and discussing nonetheless, despite her misgivings.
The committee was formed within the next few weeks, with a representative from each Hyrulean race meeting up at the Sacred Ground Ruins. From Gerudo Town came a tall woman with red hair that Link remembered as Captain Teake, who said Riju was far too busy managing Gerudo Town to be burdened with such a responsibility. It was decided Teake would come in her stead, make any Gerudo issues known and report in full back to the young chief. From Zora’s Domain came Sidon and, similarly, the Gorons sent Yunobo, who timidly approached but seemed to relax when Link came into view.
The Hero of Hyrule arrived just behind the only living governing body, none other than the former princess of Hyrule herself. Soon, Teba also arrived, as well as Paya to represent the Sheikah. Yet, Paya didn’t linger idly like the others, bravely going straight to Zelda and saying:
“May I have a word with you before we start?”
Zelda nodded.
“My grandmother is concerned for you,” Paya said once they were out of earshot.
Zelda’s expression twitched in confusion.
“Concerned?” Zelda repeated. “Does she not think I can do this?”
“Of course she believes in you,” Paya said. “It’s just the manner in which you are doing it. There’s no heart in it. We can tell you care but...there’s something in your demeanor that’s cold and...unrelenting. She knows you are more than that. If this is driving away your personality, then maybe it’s not the right fit. Somethings not working.”
Zelda’s eyes wavered, shook as if she was growing in anger. Yet, she just as soon sighed.
“I want to be taken seriously,” Zelda admitted, her head downcast.
“The Hyrule you’ve stepped into is not the Hyrule of a hundred years ago. Back then, everyone was waiting for you to fail, picking at every fault, however small it was. Now, you have made yourself to be Hyrule’s hope and everyone is cheering on you to succeed. They don’t care if you have...”
Paya stopped herself. She didn’t want to assume.
“They want you to be you, not a shell of royalty that once was.”
Zelda was quiet. Paya almost breathed to apologize. Perhaps she was too stern. These were her grandmother’s words, after all, and she wasn’t accustomed to bringing about the brutal honesty in which her grandmother tended toward.
“I want to bring Hyrule together,” Zelda finally said, submittedly. “I thought I needed to be perfect to do that, so they would trust me.”
Paya smiled at how simple it was in the end.
“Trust comes from truth,” she said, in words that were all her own.
Zelda’s eyes lifted. Her eyes stayed on Paya until the young Sheikah nodded. Zelda’s false air of confidence dissipated, and she looked scared, but she walked back into the Sacred Ground Ruins nonetheless, Paya trailing behind her.
The four attendees moved to stand in a circle, all conversations stalling and all backs straight. Four attentive gazes looked to Zelda, who took a place in the circle between Link and Paya.
“I haven’t been honest with you all,” Zelda said. “I’ve told you of my intentions and my strategies. I’ve talked of democracy and unity and led you to believe that I wish to pursue these things only out of an obligation to my father, to my mother, and to all the mothers that bore a goddess-bleeding daughter before her. I assure you this is all true, however there is yet another motivation I’ve only concealed, a motivation I thought would be a reason for dissent in your confidence in me. You see I...”
Zelda faltered, only to take Link’s hand.
“Zelda,” Link objected under his breath. “What are you doing?”
Zelda looked over and into his eyes.
“What I should have done from the start,” she said, before leaning inwards. Although surprised by her desire for such a public display, Link relented and kissed her as if they were alone, his eyes closed and his heart excited. They heard murmurs, but nothing too shocked. Zelda withdrew to see Link smiling all the way up to his eyes, blue marbles adoring green.
“We love each other,” Zelda explained. “And we want a future in a safe Hyrule.”
Zelda looked out at her guests to see them smiling as well.
“That’s why I’m here,” she continued, still holding Link’s hand. She spoke for the first time from her heart, not her mind “That’s why we’re all here, for our loved ones, for those we lost and those who are still with us. Link and I are going to need help creating a Hyrule where everyone feels safe and strong, but we can’t do it alone. Hyrule needs to be unified, and it all starts with us.”

okay, after approximately.... seventeen hours? something along those lines (did, you know, have to do the occasional work task and, like, eat and get water obviously), i’m putting down the game for the night - got to a point where i didn’t immediately have an interesting task in front of me and needed to make a stopping point for myself
i’m gonna put a cut here and do some freewheeling thoughts on tears of the kingdom thus far, but generally it suffices to say that i am having a good time
first of all, i’m really glad i played age of calamity somewhat recently, because it gave me little bits of character info that i honestly would’ve completely forgotten without it - namely that teba had a son who was one of the tiny birds in the last game
anyway it really feels like they took the notes/complaints about breath of the wild’s story to heart, cuz god damn is there a healthy amount of story here, especially with them bringing back sages and temples and such - for posterity’s sake, i have completed the wind temple, and am on my way to death mountain for what i assume will be the fire temple; should be interesting to see who the sage is, since we got a little curveball from the ritos not making it teba (so now i’m thinking yunobo or someone else? and the someone else is a little more likely)
okay also for posterity’s sake - i have gotten four glyph memories, which i assume they’re assigned to the glyph and not given in a particular order, so i got the intro one (zonai), the castle, the demon king, and the sword; i’ve also done precisely 1 (one) chasm visit and started my job at the lucky clover, as well as completing enough shrines to get up to eight hearts with enough orbs currently on my person to get something, and i uncovered the demon statue under hyrule, as well
sad they’re not letting me play as zelda, but also love that she is literally an actual part of the imprisoning war from ten thousand years ago, like yup nope the zelda in that mural was in fact the exact same zelda who was critiquing and comparing herself to that perfect image of, it turns out, herself
like fucking hell i just love the character beats there, and hopefully some amount of that gets discussed on screen, cuz damn
oh, right, by the way, if i had a nickel for every time a dead king guided me through a great ____ zone i’d have two nickels - i kid, i kid, i really liked king rauru (which!! king rauru what?!?!? aaaaaaa my zelda lore brain is firing off all the time) bamfing around and actually, like, guiding us? like he doesn’t really quite know more than we do, he’s just more familiar with how the land works and such
... now that i’m thinking about it, though, how the hell did we end up where we did? like i was jokingly complaining to myself about how we were literally just shoved in a random room (on the floor), as opposed to breath of the wild where we were intentionally brought to an advanced piece of restorative technology, but also, rauru didn’t have a corporeal form? how was he able to replace my arm? and how did i get in that room????
guess that’ll be one for the zelda youtubers - oh, wait, right! i was gonna make this joke like fourteen hours ago, but i loved the opening bit where zelda is just like the zelda lore youtubers i watch sometimes, where she’s just excitedly pointing at things and going ‘!!! this is cool! i don’t actually know what’s going on entirely but it’s cool!!!’ like yes, love that for you darling, i will like comment and subscribe every moment you’re on screen doing what you love
let’s see... oh, the gameplay is pretty excellent, even if i keep dying because i’m bad at fighting without all my special powers (and because i couldn’t find a shirt for so damn long, like i know that was just luck probably but still), and the new magic abilities are fascinating - it’s interesting how they’re both more and less expansive than the previous set (like with the attaching things power, you can pick up anything not just metal stuff like you could with magnesis, but without cryonis water is way more terrifying cuz none of the other powers can really do anything about water by themselves)
fav so far is the ‘swim upward through solid objects’ one because ya know i love to climb things, and it’s really fun to have an escape clause on, like, most caves and a lot of other places (i think i used it a fair amount in the wind temple just to get away from dudes)
i haven’t made very many vehicles, because when i make stuff for movement i feel bad about abandoning it out in the wilderness but also sometimes you just gotta cut that corner and jump off the cliff (which, gods, it took so long to get the paraglider and i was so happy when it finally dropped into my hands) - this is how i felt about horses in the first game, although i’ve actually ridden a couple horses around this time
you know what i have done what feels like fifty times? supported president hudson, that’s what - actually it’s a really fun and simple engineering puzzle that i’m glad shows up again and again, but by gods i wanna take addison’s hands and just go ‘why didn’t you guys just make the sign stable to start with??’
it’s been very cool seeing how the world has changed, both with recovery after breath of the wild and with the stuff falling from the sky at the start of this game, although i think what fascinates me the most is that no one’s actually said (or even implied) exactly how long it’s been either since botw ended OR since link and zelda disappeared on their archaeological survey - like i have no idea if link was out for days, weeks, or months honestly (my guess is like three weeks but who knows!)
negative things... not a fan of how often i died, and it took me way longer to figure out how to use the zonai wings than it should have, i wish there’d been a slightly better explanation at some point, and i wish i’d gotten the latest memory i found (the sword one) later in the quest line, cuz it feels very resolution-y and while it’s occasionally fun to get these things as an almost in media res conclusion, in this particular instance i’d rather have just seen it later
the whole geoglyphs concept is super awesome, though, that was a fantastic addition and really rewards the whole flying around the sky thing that this game is really about
can’t wait to get through the rest of the major story beats so i can spend the next few months just dicking around
but first sleep

wow, somehow there's even MORE nothing in castle town than in the last game...
PRESIDENT HUDSON????
appointed by the princess herself to restore hyrule 😭
this guy and his sign is really funny though. like how long can you possibly hold up president hudson's visage
also...what happened to bolson...if he got killed along with teba dorephan and yunobo then that's homophobia
i can't seem to catch this sign quickly enough...i'll come back to figure it out later, i don't want to google it. if anyone knows the solution tho pls tell me

So, about Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom...
OK, so I've got more thoughts about Tears of the Kingdom, and since I cannot actually play the game yet I might as well inflict them on you all. I promise it's not my fault, it's in the contract and all... Anyway, actual thoughts after the break, although as I stated last time, I have managed to avoid all spoilers and leaks, everything I know and surmise comes from Nintendo's own published materials (mostly the trailers on YouTube) and the videos of those lucky ones they let play TotK for a bit last week. You could say there are some light Breath of the Wild spoilers in there as well, but since TotK is a direct sequel and continuation of the BotW story, that's pretty much unavoidable. Anyway, you've been warned!
So, I must say I'm impressed with Nintendo's marketing machine this time around. I mean, if you discount the leaks (and as I said I have no idea what's in those leaks so I can easily discount them), we pretty much only know as much about this game as they want us to. And despite that filled to the brim final trailer of nearly a month ago, that's still very little! I mean, we got confirmation of a few things:
The return of Ganondorf;
Zelda surviving her fall (in some fashion at least);
The Zonai being involved in some way;
But those were pretty much already guessed from previous materials. We do have a better idea of the gameplay, however we still have not much clue about the story (is time travel involved, a separate dimension, the sacred realm maybe? Is the Triforce actually going to be a plot point?), which is impressive given how much material has been released in the past few weeks.
Still, among all the stuff that's been released, some of it is actually quite conspicuous by its absence, and absence that seem to imply sharing it would spoil at least some of the narrative.
I'm of course talking about the Champions' descendants! Seeing Riju and Sidon again is great of course, but why is Teba's son Tulin with them rather than Teba himself, and more importantly where is Yunobo? Now in a blink and you'll miss it moment during the final trailer when we see the New Champions run together to the left, you can actually make out the edge of a Boulder Breaker, implying there is a Goron there as well, but why is he kept out of the trailers and the promotional materials? Is it Yunobo himself, and his new appearance is such a spoiler he has to be kept hidden? Or is it a different Goron altogether?
Of course, this could be Nintendo trolling us with red herrings, but I somehow doubt they would do this to us for something that important. At least it does make you wonder what is so important about what is happening to the Gorons that it needs to be kept hush-hush that much. I guess we'll find out soon enough though.
In the meantime, for me there's really only one big, all-important, all-encompassing question that Nintendo so far has refused to answer: are we finally going to be able to pet the dogs?!
