Let’s try this again :)

My last poll wasn’t organized as well as it should have been. I got lazy and condensed way too many possibilities into the “Other” option. I know the primary reason why people voted that way but it still felt too chaotic. I tried to be more thorough this time around but I’m still sorry to the rarepairs I couldn’t include in a 12-answer max poll. I saw a handful of people mention some poly ships but unfortunately, I couldn’t include them either for the same reason. Similarly, I also eliminated the “show me the results” option. You want to see the results, you gotta vote lol.

BEFORE YOU COMMENT: Cat Grant isn’t included because I already know that she’s the second most popular Kara ship. I knew that even before my last attempt at a poll and probably shouldn’t have included her then, even as an “Other” option. My thought on season five.

It took way too long. Partly because of laptop trouble. Mostly because of Lena’s stupid bastardous existence. But I’ve finally finished season five of supergirl. And as always. I have Opinions. Some of which many will most likely hate. So please. Read the fucking tags before you click the readmore. It’ll save you a helluva lot of time. Got that? Good. Now let’s begin.

I still miss Mon El. It’s A Super Life was nowhere near enough. Kara needs her soulmate dammit. I know it ends with Kara becoming The Sponge Who Could Fly. But she, and we, deserved Mon El back full time.

I miss Winn and I miss James. I know why they’re actors left. And I don’t blame them for leaving. I blame the hellers of the fandom. But still. I miss them

I’m loving dansen. No notes. Yet.

I really like Andrea. She’s much more sympathetic than Lena is.

I’m loving William. I know he dies. And I’m bracing myself for it. But right now he’s the Graham Humbert to Kara’s Emma Swan. If you you know what I mean.

It’s. A novelty to see Buono play a modern role after seeing her in Mad Men and Stranger Things. I don’t like Gamenae. I’m just saying it’s a novelty.

I found Lex screaming in Lena’s face at the end of The Missing Link to be incredibly cathartic. It was high time that she got yelled at.

I still maintain that Lillian is the superior Luthor. Far more impressive, and better acted, than her bastard stepdaughter could ever hope to be.

Once again. Everyone brings their A Game. Except for Lena’s actress.

I am STILL pissed off about the wonky as fuck morality system in this show. And I FULLY believe that I am always going to be pissed off about it.

There’s probably more. But this is all I can think of right now. So. Tell me what you think?

A Bittersweet End

I am going to start this out by saying I had no expectations for Supergirl Season 6. I might have watched all the previous seasons, but I was disappointed with the last or last 2 season(s). Although I adore Supergirl and the Super Friends, the plots were often average. Now thinking back, I can't even name a Supergirl villain that stuck to me.

That being said, this final season of Supergirl was much better than the previous seasons. It got me hooked onto the show and there were times when I was actually emotional. Although the villains were way below mid, the storylines were solid. And the action, I absolutely enjoyed it. Even the character developments were good. As a Supergirl season, season 6 was one of the better ones. As a final season, I believe it could have been better plotted.

Lets start with the villains. I'm not saying Nyxly was a marvellous villain but because of her existence and actions, it created several great storylines, especially the role it played into Kara's self-realisation, then development.

Lex on the other hand, his arc was so weirdly written. The Lex Luthor I was used to disappeared in season 6, for real. Him being in love really ruined his arc, when he could have gone down as one of the show's better villains. But, I like what the writers did with this character. I mean, people have tried to kill Lex, he lived. People have tried to incarcerate Lex, he walked away scott free. Other than the Phantom Zone, I doubt there would be another way to get rid of Lex once and for all.

As for Lillian. I hated her throughout all 6 seasons. I really did not like the idea of her redemption in the end but her redemption meant enlightenment for Lena. For that, I eventually accepted that there was a redemption arc for this infuriating woman. Perhaps, if her redemption was shown gradually through this last season, I might not have disliked the idea as much.

Through the entire season, I enjoyed more than I was bored. I liked more than I disliked. Unfortunately, there was something I seriously wished the writers never wrote down. What happened to William did not need to happen, or at least, not to him. It's not as if William's death meant the whole Super Friends was going on a revenge path, so why bring him back from being shot only to have him go permanently by being shot? He was the one character I constantly wished nothing happened to him since his first appearance...

Moving on to brighter topics, lets talk about Kelly. First thing first, that episode that was Kelly-centric? Wow. It was the first time Azie Tesfai impressed me. The way Tesfai portrayed Kelly in the episode, it was almost like I could feel everything Kelly was experiencing. Then came their wedding scene and I am never one for vows, not a romantic and could care less about wedding vows. However, Kelly's vows to Alex touched my heart. I really don't know if it's the words, Tesfai's acting, or the combination of both. Whatever it is, I finished Supergirl extremely aware of what a magnificent actress Tesfai is.

Next, Nia. Not only did Nia (and Dreamer) grow, Nicole Maines improved so much too. I never disliked Maines nor her character but the acting always felt a little awkward. Usually, I just let it go because if Nia is one awkward girl, Dreamer will be awkward too and thus the awkward acting. This last season proved me wrong because I still see awkward Nia but the acting very obviously improved. Completely off the tangent here but when Nia confronted Maeve? Atta girl! I loved it when Nia told her sister, she will not forgive her but she can give a second chance. That's the way, actually. How do people forgive without seeing how others handle their second chances?

Lastly, Kara's character arc. I have always loved it when Kara showed vulnerability. In this season, she's practically always vulnerable even when she's not actively attacked. It hurts to watch Supergirl lose hope so often but then the way the smallest things brought back some hope to her? Love it. The courage plot was something else too, something I did not see play out the way it did. As much as I loved it, I still don't know how I feel about the season ending with the world finding out Supergirl's identity.

After watching several Arrowverse shows consecutively, Supergirl was a nice end before a break from the Arrowverse TV shows. Although Kara and Mon-El are not endgame, I am still very happy that the finale brought back the old faces.

28.  The Killiam-Romance, that was supposed to finally move forward in Season 6 (Supergirl)

When asked about Season 6 between the Covid-Shutdown and the start of filming the Final Season the one thing we were told would happen in Season 6 was, that the „slow burning romance between Kara and William would continue“. And of course nothting of that sort happened. As soon as Kara was back on Earth, we learned William had started dating someone else, and the topic was never brought up again.

Now, I know that there were many fans, that were against that romance, but that was not even the reason the writers dropped that storyline, they dropped it because it was the last season and Supergirl is supposed to be single because having a partner, especially a male one, is anti-feminist. Only singles rule (which is why they split up Harley and Ivy in the Comicy by the way). So no the frozen burn romance just totally stopped.

If that would not have been the case William’s Death would have least been really tragic, but maybe that was the the main reason they gave up on the romance alltogether, because they felt that they couldn’t have killed of William, if he and Kara would have gotten serious at some point. Well, if that is the case, one more reason to actually have the romance: Because then William would not have died.

In any case, they just forgot about that romance, so they could spend even less time with Kara once she was back than they did when she was trapped in the Phantom Zone. By giving her a love life she would have had at least some character development beyond PTSD and totally giving up on Kara Danvers in the final season. But since they wanted her to only be Supergirl as much as possible in the Final Season, they were probably glad to have one less reason for her to put on the Kara Danvers-Persona so to speak.

In six seasons Kara had three major romances, that all lead nowhere, in all three cases because the writers lost interest. Compare that to what was going on in all the other Arrowverse Shows - even „Batwoman“ finally managed to get a long time romance in with Season 3, but „Supergirl“ was just an example for the fact that women, who date men, are seen as weak and are not hero-material in the eyes of the world, while men get to date women and be heroes all the time. So much for feminism.

And they did not even have them date for a little bit and then split up, no, this was even worse than the Karolsen-Shit they pulled back at the beginning of Season 2. They spent an entire season building something up, only to have it not happen at all. Back to Built Up with no Pay-Off again. That is the general writing of „Supergirl“ for you in a nutshell.

Valentine’s Day 2024. Supergirl edition.

Karamel. Bought and tested out their Halloween costumes for this year. Hint. There were swords involved. All with a regency fair.

Dansen. Family dinner with Esme. The kitchen looks like a sauce drenched, flour covered hellscape. But the pizzas came out great.

Brainia. Went to the swankiest restaurant in the city and spied on two people they set up. Their dinner went well. The blind date. Not so much.

James x Lucy. Sparring inside the training room at the DEO that “continued” inside their apartment. And well into the next morning.

Winn x Samantha. They had planned a night of Grand Romance. But instead they fell asleep the couch. Winn found the ring the next morning.

William and Andrea. The aforementioned set up. The dinner itself went mostly okay. But Andrea did not like waking up in her bed hugging a bucket with William asleep in the chair. Not when she’d hoped it had gone another, far more pleasurable, way.

Lena. Growing gradually more incensed at all the highly expensive takeout being delivered to her door after an argument with Maxwell.

Maxwell. Laughing to himself as he keeps ordering highly expensive takeout to be delivered to Lena’s door after the aforementioned argument.

That had to be incredibly hard for Chyler to film, and I am thoroughly impressed by her acting skills. Oh I hate this virtual reality bullshit of course Andrea talks to Eve to fix the bug. The fact that they show Jeremiah in a Christian funeral… I disagree, but OK. All William had to do was stick his damn hand out.  I must say I like him better whenever they aren’t trying to put him in a relationship with Kara.
