This is a VERY long post, a 20 page long document, containing 9400 words of information, kinda like a masterpost but it doesnt have links to other posts

Heath Burns is a 2010-introduced and all-around character. Being a young fire elemental, Heath still is in the process of learning to control his powers and he suffers no less for it than his environment. Fear, excitement, or just a moment of absentmindedness is enough to pass his flames on to where he no longer controls them. It does not help that Heath himself is impulsive and impatient and has limited regard for others' wellbeing, meaning that his fire isn't even required for him to be the cause of chaos. Students and teachers alike are on guard if Heath is involved, which is necessary, but nonetheless hurts him because it means any effort to grow out of his habits is met with demoralizing skepticism. Heath likes to think of himself as the "guys want to be me, girls want to date me"-type, neither of which he actually is.

Age: 15 years olds

The following things are wrote in first person as if Heath had written it

Freaky Flaw: I have a slight self-control issue, causing me to accidentally burst into flames at the worst possible times. My dad also says that my attention span is so short that, Hey! What was that?

Favorite Activity: I love playing video games because I always get to be the hero, and if I make a mistake, I can hit the reset button.

Favorite subject: Physical Deaducation. I can show my crazy athletic skills in front of the ghouls. But in another bit of info he says that his favourite subject is Music, since he’s an “avid guitar player” (He isn’t)

Least Favorite Subject: Mad Science. It's not that I don't like the subject, but there are many distractions in the classroom. But he also says that “Any class when I don’t get to sit next to a scary-cute ghoul” in another bit of info

Favorite color: Red and Yellow

Best Friends: Clawd Wolf & Deuce Gorgon

Extra-scare-icular activities: Track team

He also considers as friends, and therefore spends time with them: Manny Taur, Slo Mo, Gil Webber, Hoodude Voodoo and Kjersti Trollson (online).

Despite the fact that Heath is a pain magnet and Hoodude(15) is the same, except that he transmits pain to other people close to him, Hoodude and Heath get together from time to time and get along well.

Kjersti Trollson(14), met Heath online, through the internet and through video games, and the two have been close ever since, despite Heath's surprise to discover that she was a girl, which is a delicate matter for Kjersti. Despite this, he respects his loudmouth personality and recognizes him as a skilled player. She considers him one of her best friends during her time at Monster High.

Slo Mo (17) doesn't seem to have much of a problem with Heath's antics

Manny (16) had no friends during his bully days, but today he considers Heath his best friend.

Buddies for Life

Mom’s always telling me to clean up the mess in my room, and I always answer that there’s a place for everything, and everything’s in its place. She says it’s only true when the said place is the floor. While tidying up, I found an old picture of summer camp. I don’t remember these holidays being exactly fun until Deuce came along. I guess it’s because I only ran into trouble. It was harder back then than it is today to control my flames. I don’t if it was being expelled from archery practice for setting the arrows on fire (I still shot the target with them) or maybe because I set the rope on fire while practicing knots, but I manage to scare away the instructors as well as the other campers from day one. I was wondering what to expect from the rest of my stay. That’s when the new guy walked into the cabin. He had snakes instead of hair and weird sunglasses attached to his head, so they didn’t fall off. He said, “Hey dude! Wanna give me a tour?”. From that moment on, Deuce and I became best buds. I did run into more trouble after that, but Deuce was still there once the smoke cleared out.

Jackson (16) doesn't have him as a friend, neither does Holt, just as a family member (I mean, Heath doesn't have them as friends either, but come on man)

Clawd (17) says that he doesn't have best friends directly, but he does mention that he usually spends more time with Heath because of different sports activities since they're both on most of the school teams

In the Monster High books, Heath is not related to the Jekylls/Hydes at all; however he does have an older sister, Harmony Burns.

In 2020, it was confirmed that Heath may be a part of the LGBTQIA+ community as Garrett on his Instagram account stated that he likes/flirts with anyone (HE’S PAN I SWEAR TO GOD) (I am projecting there)

Heath usually prefers to dress in a way that isn't too showy, thinking he might envy the other boys and students at Monster High, but he still likes to look cool (Even if that means using the same outfit in the entire series lmao)

During a recent Creative Conjuring Class, we were challenged with writing a personal essay exploring inner thoughts of self. Heads turned towards me instantly. No one thinks I can be serious; Ghouls laugh at me when I try and ask them out; teachers always blame me for pranks. Well, the truth is I am a very serious monster, with a lot of deep feelings. To set the record straight, so to speak, I decided to publish my essay (which got an A by the way). Breathe fire all you want, because I'm proud of who I am.

WHO AM I? The Monster Inside.

It's hard out there for a mildly funny prankster. Most monsters deal with the same questions of self – who am I? What do I want in un-life? Even some of my closest monsters wonder who I am, and to be honest, many times so do I. It leads me to ask, can one ever truly know the real monster inside? Or is un-life just a continuous hunt to find purpose to feed the soul? I know that one thing that truly feeds me is my passion for fun, but no one seems to get the humor in my punch lines. The hardest part is being tormented by the feeling that no monster will ever truly understand me.

Most times, I just feel completely misunderstood. On the outside, I'm Heath Burns – class clown and UHHHn-defeated prankster! It's an external personae – everyone has one. Don't get me wrong, I love to laugh and practical jokes really are my forte, but occasionally a monster just wants to mellow out and have a serious convo with the pretty ghoul from Biteology class. Unfortunately, most monsters don't let me express my sensitive side, because they expect a joke at every turn. Since I’m a pro, I always give my audience what they expect – but sometimes it can be a total buzz kill.

That being said, the Heath Burns lifestyle is one awesome ride! I am who I am, and that's all I want or need to be. Monsters may think they have my personality pegged, but they're dead wrong. I am strong, unique and totally the beast guy to have around when you’re in need of a gut busting laugh. But I'm also caring and creative – so don't forget you should never judge a clown by his worst joke.

Abbey and Heath to Slice Out the Competition

Winter sports season is finally in full swing now that the Monster X-Games championship is set to take place in less than a month's time. With student bodies Abbey Bominable and Heath Burns preparing to freeze out their opposition as a fierce duo this year, the competition is bound to heat up quickly.

Given Abbey's fervor for snowboarding, we imagine we'll see some wickedly good tricks on the monster pipe while Heath is expected to melt the ice during the Beast Trick round. Rumors are also spreading about a synchronized ski competition for the pair. How did the two get wrangled into sharing the competition? Gil says Heath practically burst into flames at the chance to spend a little one-on-one time with Abbey.

No matter what the reason for their matchup, monsters everywhere are screaming in excitement over the possibilities. These super athletes are sure to put on a creeperific show this winter.

Heath Burns: I have a burning crush on the coolest ghoul in school, but I'm not sure she knows I'm alive. I don't want to declare my love if she doesn't feel the same way. How can I get her to notice me?

C.A. Cupid: Love is worth the risk. You must tell her how you feel. Even if her initial response is icy, your re-hot feeling may melt her heart

Series/Webisodes

Volume 1

This would be the first time we see him (I think his actual presentation would be New Ghoual @ School, the first movie). He´s shown talking to background characters mostly, first year in high school maybe? Or second year of highchool but he just moved to Monster High, I say this because Draculaura calls him “new guy”.

He’s trying to give a good impression, but in a “hey guys I’m cool” way

He´s immature, at least compared to the other manster, he´s a year younger than the rest

He´s shown trying to flirt with Frankie one time (This does not work for him btw)

Draculaura flirts with him first, I would guess they have a date that went really wrong off camera, because in later episodes Draculaura is shown to really dislike him lol

He has a really big ego when it comes to sports, like, he truly believes he´s the best in them (I like to think that this because they´re one of the only things he´s always been good at, compared to his other classes). He even says that some sports shouldn’t be for girls (BY THE WAY, WHAT THE FUCK WITH THAT?? LIKE??? HUH??? THIS IS LITERALLY THE ONLY SUBJECT HE ACTS LIKE THIS)

Volume 2

He really wants to go with Draculaura to that prom, dance?? (I don’t know what’s it’s called honestly), but Draculaura doesn´t want to go with him. If you think about it, this may be because she was the only person who first approached him in a good way; so maybe Heath thought Draculaura wouldn't turn him down. The way he insists her isn't cool tho, and it takes calling Clawd to threaten him so he stops.

He isn´t angry with Clawd afterwards tho, Heath actually doesn´t appear in the “prom” later in the episode, so he really didn´t have anyone else to go with

He´s good friends with Gil! He helps him get the courage to tell his parents what he has with Lagoona.

He doesn't have the best relationship with Jackson?, he doesn't treat him badly in front of him, and he even is shown to repeatedly spend time with him, but it's quite clear that for some reason he doesn't want Jackson to be in Monster High (Heath only acts like this during this volume tho)

He’s included in the friend group of the ghouls, but I think this is mostly because he´s spends time with Deuce, Gil and Jackson, since the ghouls constantly don’t want to spend time with him

By the way, this is important to me, but Heath has only been shown to be attracted to the physical appearance of people, and tends to act quickly on those feelings, trying to flirt with the background girls (They don’t like him tho). I like to think he’s in some part of the aromantic spectrum because of this (Demiro maybe?)

Volume 3

He’s shown spending waaaayy more time with Manny ( :/ )

The times he's rude with others it’s really because he's like really honest. This guy does not realize that what he is saying is rude to others and may hurt them

He flirts with Abbey like a lot, and Abbey is shown to at least find him funny

Saying this again, but every time he develops a short crush with a girl its purely a physical attraction and not a romantic one, I think the fisrt time he actually wants to be in a more serious thing is whith Abbey, but he also takes a lot of time to even realize this

All of his friends would blame him for any type of fire related accident, like they wouldn’t even think about it

He really helps Frankie in that New Year episode where she stops time, like totally platonic, friend helping another friend thing

HE’S A GAMER, I KNOW THIS IS SAID BEFORE IN THE WIKI PART, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS IS SHOWN IN THE SERIES

He really cares about his friends lives (yes, I am talking about the ghouls in this), and he tries to warn them thay they could be in danger, but literally nobody takes him seriously

He’s scared by Jhonny Spirit lol

Talking about Hoodude he’s shown to be rude with him in a singular episode, but I suppose he apologized afterwards. Since later in the volume they’re shown to be on good terms and Heath does not get angry with him if he accidentally hurts him

Volume 4

He’s shown way less

He’s a fan of Catty Noir lol

He tends to get lunch with Hoodude x)

He’s in more sports than before, Maybe he just signs up for every sport in the school (except swimming)

He helps or is in the art club as a model!

Volume 5

He almost never appears in this volume

He’s speaking with Manny in the interchange episode and he doesn’t appear much during that arc, so I guess went to Greece with Manny?? Completely guessing here

He wants to be a vampire in the Casta Frierce episode lol

When he goes to that party he doesn’t go with a formal outfit or anything, he just shows up with his normal everyday outfit, this thing he does it in almost every single party episode btw. He’s shown dancing with Jinafire btw!

Volume 6

He appears three times literally

In the arc of the circus thingy, he appears in the background with a different t-shirt and cooking some sausages with a stick, he literally doesn’t do anything more

And the other time he appears it’s when he some books fall on top of him when he’s searching for something in his locker

Extra episodes

He’s actually cheering on the casketball team instead of playing with them

And he went to the beach, he’s shown to spend time with Hoodude talking together, and he also plays with Clawd a bit.

He doesn´t like the science class, maybe because it’s more of a wait around class than anything, He invoked a small version of a Cthulhu thingy

He tried to flirt with two different vampire girls

THEY SHOWED HIM INSIDE A WATER TANK? DUDE? AS A GAME FOR THE PARTY??

He was looking at the fight between the werewolves and vampires, HE FAINTED???

At the end he tries to flirt with Gory, but a zombie ends up splashing him with water

Why do ghouls fall in love?:

They invited him to Draculaura's birthday, he was dancing with these vampires from the previous movie (it's a dream from Draculaura btw)

Trying to pay attention to Mr. Rotter's class as far as it seems (he's struggling with the book)

Ok this doesn't make sense, but Ghoulia's computer bug makes her "perfect match" appear as Heath

HE IS SO HAPPY THAT GHOULIA IS SUPPOSEDLY HIS PERFECT MATCH; he goes and tells some friends at lunch, Gil and Lagoona tell him not to be crazy and to take the date more calmly and Heath tells them "but I'm her perfect partner, right? I should act like always". Deuce seems interested in seeing how Heath treats this situation, but more in a way of waiting for Heath to fuck up

He accidentally burned a book while trying to flirt Ghoulia :(

He went to look for Ghoulia to hang out with her I guess (inconvenient at the moment but it's not his fault)

Heath made a song for her :3

Heath listens to the radio show of Cupid thing but it’s because they are throwing more “hard” tips because Abbey is the one who is talking. He was in the library with Ghoulia to accompany her, he accidentally burned a book again for wanting to give it to Ghoulia

Ghoulia wasn't very happy with the things they tried so she wants to tell him to stop this thing they were doing later

Heath ends their thingy with Ghoulia first, seeing that a serious relationship is not for him (and that it wasn't working out), but he still asks Ghoulia if she doesn't get mad about this or anything, because she still worries about their friendship. Ghoulia tells him that there is no problem, Heath then goes to go with flirt again with the girls

Escape from skull shores:

He’s back in those water tanks from attraction parks

Why is he so egocentric in this?? He just told this skeleton guy to use the muscles when he clearly doesn't have them (mocking him) and telling Howleen that girls can't throw? What the hell? He didn’t act like since Volume 1

He deserved that Howleen threw him inside the water, but why the hell did the water had piranhas inside of it????

Heath laughs at the destruction of public space (arson win) lol

Heath runs off to recess along with Manny

He is afraid of the circus performer

He’s standing there watching each other kill each other on the roof lol

I think he was talking to operetta??? On the island at the end

Friday Night Frights

He's on the skating team

previous season of the sport as of now

Substitute for the team along with Manny, calls the gargoyles fools

Makes fun of the other team as he skates too

They lost the thing? I don’t remember right now. Manny almost kills him because he pushes him. Heath is really sad about their team losing. He's disappointed when Clawd says he's canceling the next season of the sport

He’s watching at that thing to see who could make the new players for the team

He doesn't pay much attention when a werewolf says that a girl shouldn't be teaching guys about the sport, but he does laugh at another's guy joke about the same thing

Surprised by Lagoona's abilities!

He doesn't say anything to Lagoona when she says he wants to join the team, but he seems confused. When Frankie asks why Manny doesn't want to play with girls, Heath replies "because it's a man's sport, it's sacred! It's tradition."

Manny says that they are not going to make the team then, Heath goes along with the idea, and he says "well see ya! Wouldn't wanna be ya!" And then if tells them good luck putting together a team without men

He went to see (along with Clawd and Manny) the first tournament of the season, obviously to make fun of the ghouls; he’s carrying a camera to record them lol

He laughs at the Ghouls the next day (along with literally all the other guys)

Do I have to keep saying that he continues to make fun of the girls along with Manny? He’s still carrying the camera by the way. Operetta tells them to like, get lost or something

He went to watch the games together with Manny, obviously to record when the girls lost, but when he sees that the girls are using other strategies and are going ahead pf the other team, he is surprised and applauds them (puts the camera down)

He doesn’t appear in the next game

In the next game he’s cheering them on with the rest of the school

Heath and Manny apologize to the girls, admitting they were jerks

He’s was talking to Rochelle about the matches I guess :3

Next game/final game he’s on the cheer squad to cheer them on :3 (He accidentally burns the pompom)

He was about to kill the gargoyles for/because of the shield (I don’t remember what this refers to)

He was going to record them when they were celebrating, Manny then pushes him and Heath ends up crashing into Clawd

Passage of time to the next season of the sport this (aka the time when the movie starts)

He’s playing in the team again <3

Ghouls rule:

He fell asleep in the movie that they’re playing in class for Halloween :3

He said he failed history once, saying it was because he accidentally burned the book and couldn't study. When he says this he accidentally burns his book, Abbey puts out the burned book before anything else catches fire (for some reason everyone laughs at him?)

He was going to laugh at the pumpkins set as a threat, inadvertently activating the trap. Abbey shields him from being hurt and Heath thanks her.

They make fun of him (Manny and the rest of random guys) because Abbey saved him??? He gets really sad about this. Especially because the first one who laughs at him is Manny

In the Ms. Bloodgood room he sits next to Frankie, separated from Manny

He seems happy or interested with the meeting for Halloween that Cleo organizes

He tries to help Abbey not to drop a book on her head, it goes wrong and he ends up colliding with the locker, the book falls on his head and he sets it on fire. ABBEY AND LAGGONA DON'T EVEN ASK HIM IF IHE’S OKAY?? UH????? I GUESS??????

He takes some time to even recognize the secret greeting for the thing that Cleo is organizing, frustrating (I think) Clawd and ending up saying out loud what the greeting was for. He ends up crashing into another locker

He’s really interested in like, pulling a prank on the humans

He looks confused/concerned at Jackson when he shows up

Follow the rest with the idea that Holt should go instead of Jackson :(

He's super interested in pulling this prank on the humans (repeating myself here), He’s even carrying one rotten egg for the prank, I think he's the only one who took something like that? I have to say that he's probably good with basketball tricks because he does those kinds of tricks with this egg and he does it really well.

Manny gets mad at him for this?

Clawd tells him to be careful and Heath looks at him somewhat disappointed, telling him to have some confidence in him.

Holt bumps into him and makes Heath drop the egg, he tries to catch it but trips over a stone and can’t, he gets really sad about this

CLAWD TELLS HIM "I TOLD YOU SO" YOU SON OF A BITCH IT WASN'T HIS FAULT (Sorry I got angry in here)

Holt flashes a flashlight into Heath eyes/face to get him to hurry up

Disappointed that someone already did a graffiti in the human school before them, but says it's a much better job than what they were going to do

He runs fast! (Although it is obvious, in the series he was part of the track team)

He hides with Manny in a place of dishes/pots, when he sees that they weren't caught he gets excited and sets himself on fire, I think it's Manny who ends up breaking the place because Heath doesn't move from where he was sitting

Confused when he joins the rest to see that they are accusing Holt

He does not put up much resistance for this human party idea, he seems surprised actually

He wants to dance with Abbey at the party but he couldn’t.

He doesn't even want to be close to that blonde girl, he makes a scared face when she talks to him

When eating a spicy food (Abbey stops him before, telling him that they are too spicy, but he eats it anyway, saying that he was going to resist) he doesn't resist?? I guess?? For comedy factor?? He sets himself on fire, revealing that he is indeed a monster and inadvertently so are his friends. Abbey tries to put it out but Heath keeps running until he can put out the fire with a bucket of water.

Seems ready to fight with the humans when discovered

He tries to "protect" Abbey when they have to escape from the police, but while running he slips on a puddle and Abbey ends up helping him

He’s biting his nails when the Ms. Bloodgood is scolding them, maybe he does it when he is nervous?

He’s laying on the desk during detention until Frankie talks. He replies that he thinks it's cool that Holt had done the graffiti.

Has a “the fuck” face as he listens to Cleo complaining

I think he was talking to Toralei?

I think he's saying "awesome" when Cleo lies about Holt pulling those pranks

Tells Cleo the she should tell Holt everyone has his back

Tries to get Abbey out of detention, obviously doesn't do anything of what he says when the professor swings a dagger at his face, saying he has to go (Abbey seeing this says that Heath is "obviously" not part of the plan)

I'm saying it now, but Heath has no reaction when Holt takes the punishment of being killed. WHICH MAKES NO SENSE BECAUSE HE'S HIS FUCKING COUSIN MAYBE HE SHOULD REACT??? LIKE DUDE

Help with the plan to get the humans into the hall, to get their attention he taunts them and makes sure he's set on fire to light the way for the humans; I think he laughs nervously

He's really happy about the things that Abbey can do. When he sees that the ice statue is going to fall on top of him, he throws a ball of fire at it to melt it (I think it's one of the few times he does something like that?) He ends up going out dancing with Abbey thanks to this

After dancing with Abbey help the bullies (those blonde guys that look like jocks) to roast some marshmallows in his heads, I DON'T KNOW WHY BUT HE'S SITTING IN A BABYGIRL POSE OK I DON'T KNOW (gay?!¡?????!?!!!)

He’s good at sliding down rails?? With only his feet?? Cool??

Scaris City of frights:

Had a turn at the fashion show that Clawdeen organized at school, He’s so excited to participate (along with Deuce and Clawd)

Toralei's (fucking asshole) wants to humiliate Clawdeen (and Heath) changing the outfit he had to wear for the show

He is quite nervous about going out with the dress, he still does what he can (as he himself says) to wear it

Heath helps Ghoulia carry her scooter, which he has a hard time carrying, but manages in the end. Clawd and Deuce laugh at him for this??

He is so happy to be able to spend time with Deuce and Clawd! He literally says that "there is no better fun than with friends" and wants to high-five Deuce and Clawd, they look at him confused/disgusted and leave him standing there. Heath is confused as to why they left him hanging/ignored.

Heath tells Clawd that well, Draculaura is in the city of love, and in his case he would be jealous (Heath is always this very sincere without really wanting to hurt his friends feelings) he asks for a high five back to Clawd, and Deuce freeze him for this (Since Clawd gets sad and Heath doesn’t notices)

He’s so glad that for once he’s told that he was right about something. He literally tells Clawd not to worry, that it's not going to happen like last time (Valentine) and that Draculaura wouldn't left him for another dude.

He doesn't seem very convinced that Clawd is going to ask Cupid for help.

Clawd just says thanks to Deuce for going with him to Scaris. He then SARCASTICALLY says thanks to Heath for coming, literally telling him afterwards "I didn't want you to come though" (I think at least that what he says in Spanish)

Heath tells him that he wouldn't miss an opportunity to skip school. I KNOW HE’S IGNORING THE OTHER COMMENT I KNOW; that or he doesn’t understand sarcasm?

He was almost killed by a gargoyle on the airplane

Says "I miss girls who speak my language" when he arrives in Scaris lmao (in difference as Deuce and Clawd say that their miss Cleo and Draculaura)

I think he stopped for a second to see the mural that Ghoulia was doing

Doesn't stop Clawd from talking to a mime lmao

Gives money to Ghoulia's monkey!!!

He’s tired of looking for the ghouls; He does not seem very convinced to go to the catacombs to look for them as indicated by Clawd

Heath is lighting up the way for the boys to go through the catacombs

He's not like, very happy to see/find the girls compared to Clawd and Deuce

He kicks down a door!! He took it out from melting the sides from where it is connected to the wall; and did this only using one finger like a blowtorch!!

Clawdeen slams the door on him AND DOES NOT APOLOGIZE

He doesn't even complain about being squashed with the door :(

He asks sadly if anyone missed him, no one answers him, except Abbey with a "maybe me, very little" AND HEATH GETS TOO HAPPY ABOUT THIS; respects Abbey when she tells him not to push

HE FIXED ROCHELLE'S CAR BY THE WAY I DON'T WANT TO SAY ANYTHING BUT HE FIXED A FUCKING CAR. He's really proud of this by the way

I don't know why but when he goes with Abbey on a scooter he cannot accommodate/sit well on it

A Clash of Kings - 46 BRAN VI (pages 599-608)

This is a horrifying betrayal by Theon (though expected and understandable in terms of things) but I just need to take a moment to appreciate how badass this was. The walls of Winterfell are like, ridiculously tall. (80 feet/24 meters at the outer wall, 100 feet/30 meters at the inner wall, which doesn't sound like much... when it's horizontal, but that's taller than an 8 story building.) I also have questions about whether or not the moat is heated like the hot-springs that litter Winterfell, and whether or not it contains fish and/or eels. (And if the moat is just an artificially enlarged hot-spring, just a trench connecting several dozen, does the mineral content of the pools flavour the fish? marinade?)

One of the ironmen went before them carrying a torch, but the rain had started again and soon drowned it out.

(I wrote Terry's parents through the fanon characterization of Morton and Myra Silver, as found on that old wiki page, but since that is now all scrapped unfortunately, I always try to put into perspective and combine all canons to create a cohesive whole as I envision it, so here goes ---)

I think Twig's / Terry's parents want someone rich and powerful, yes.

Terry himself, on a surface level, does too, because that's what he knows. What he's been raised on. What he is familiar with, at least in the more youthful years of his life, before John came along. But, I also tend to imagine his parents as obsessed, love-maddened and overly devoted as Terry himself, to almost cultish degrees. I imagine he gets it from them, in part. I imagine darling boy Terry, especially post-war, gets whatever he wants and all he has to do is prod someone with those big puppy eyes of his. They'll give him whatever he wants because they they want to butter him up and have him amenable and content after Vietnam, seeing as how that is their only boy. Their heir. Who just returned alive. Returned a hero! Yes, whatever he wants, he gets. That car. That mansion. That golfing lot. That seat at the company table. They obviously have a preference. What well to do parent doesn't? Ideally, they'd aim for someone within their class, or higher, because money attracts money and power is a ladder they intend to climb, but love is also love. I don't know what the show intends to do on the subject of Terry's parents (probably nothing, the same way it did nothing with a great many other concepts) but I always envisioned that they loved each other a whole lot, to the point where they were at times, uncontrollable and grossly overwhelming to be around, with social norms and dynamics entirely skewed in the Silver household. Something Terry picked up, because he too is grossly overwhelming and intense. As a friend. As a mentor. As a human being. And yes, when he's in love. Perhaps why he avoids it so? Because he watched his parents be absolutely messy when in love?

As such, I think if Twig had someone he really cared for ---

Well, his parents would claim that person for him, regardless of their class, background, money or lack thereof. They claim them like someone adopting a pet off of the street. It is admittedly a bit dehumanizing, but it is all for a good cause. Their boy is in love! What a joyful event! The lucky person is not what was desired, but they're taken anyway because yes, whatever Terry wants, Terry gets and the Silvers very much have the status and the connections to get away with it --- with something borderline ranging on abduction. They’ve enough cash to compensate for ten lives. They don’t need beloved’s and it is an insult to assume they do! Their boy deserves to be happy after Vietnam! Their boy will be happy after Vietnam! Or else! Beloved doesn’t get a lot of say in the issue. It is preferable if beloved consents, but consent is also not necessary if it is deemed their boy has legitimately been hit by a Cupid’s arrow and I envision them like a very eerie upper class old money family that would subjugate the couple to a few tests here and there to deem if these feelings are true. If it deems they are true, well, I supposed beloved’s trapped. No getting away now. Beloved’s lot in life becomes making their son happy and seeing as how they’re giving beloved a roof of their head, beautiful things, beautiful items, all the gorgeousness money can buy, they better comply. Nothing’s for free, right? Tactically, the Silvers have found that an economically impaired beloved is more flexible. Easier to bribe into things. Easier to have them stay put because they lack the resources to fight back.

(Note: Yes, I know this isn’t Harry Potter. Also this is coming from someone who has only watched clips and read (fandom wiki pages, bless them) about said characters to only slightly know what she’s talking about, so if any of this is “inaccurate,” that’s probably why. Don’t take this too seriously, this is all in good fun, so don’t get upset if I “insult” your favorite character or something. Aight, now let’s begin. This is in no particular order, I’m sorry if I leave someone out)

Tony Stark: I doubt this man has ever had to lift a finger to kill any bugs in his life. If he saw one (assuming a bug could even get inside his home), he would subtly get Happy or Pepper (or maybe even Peter) to kill it. I’m 85% sure that if no-one was there to help him, he would just put on one of his suits and start blasting, then MAYBE he would be able to kill it on his own.

Steve Rogers: You know those people who will try and spare the bug, and like put a cup over it to release it outside? I think he’d be one of those people. I think he could kill it if he wanted to, but wouldn’t.

Natasha Romanoff: Yes, of course she could. No further explanation needed.

Thor: This himbo would get very upset at this tiny annoying ass bug buzzing in his ear. He would 100% think it was Loki messing with him. Once he figured out that it wasn’t his brother, I would like to believe he would use Mjolnir to try and kill it. It’s a solid maybe on if he actually manages to succeed though...

Loki (I know he’s not an avenger but whatever): Yes, he would. He would get very annoyed by the buzzing, it’s kind of funny imagining him get pissed off by one. He has a lot of powers and if I remember correctly, shape shifting is one of them so, he would probably turn into one and I don’t know, stab the real mosquito.

Bruce Banner: Mosquitos are fucking annoying as hell, maybe he couldn’t (I think he could though, assuming Hulk hasn’t taken over yet) but Hulk certainly would try.

Hawkeye: Yeah, isn’t he supposed to have like super good aim? I mean I don’t think he would use an arrow to kill it, but if he’s half as good at smacking things with a shoe as he is with his arrows, then yeah, he could kill one.

Wanda Maximoff: I’d feel bad for that poor mosquito if it decided to buzz in her ear, she’d have no trouble killing it that’s for sure, with or without her powers.

Pietro Maximoff: Yes, Sonic the hedgehog here could kill it.

James Rhodes or “Rhodey”: Yes, I think he would be very chill about it too. I honestly think he’s one of the few people who wouldn’t cause chaos trying to kill it.

Sam Wilson: Yes, he could. I don’t know why but I feel like he’d be one of those people who “talk” to it or himself while he’s trying to kill it.

Bucky Barnes (I know Bucky is just his nickname, but it feels weird to refer to him by anything else and he’s not technically part of the Avengers but whatever): I can’t decide if he wouldn’t be bothered by it or would lose his shit trying to catch it. If he was bothered by it, he would probably get Steve or Sam to kill it. He could kill it himself though.

Peter Parker: He’s literally Spiderman. He would probably put on the suit and shoot webs at it (I’m pretty sure the webs don’t come from his actual wrists...right?) just to see if that would work, but yes, he could.

Vision: Well, I’m pretty sure mosquitos are attracted to carbon dioxide, and he’s a robot....he doesn’t breathe. (This is not a “he’s dead joke”, but it could be.) But, in this case let’s just say he’s killing it for Tony or something. Yes, he could, he would probably figure out the best way to kill it and how to prevent more from getting in too.

What the Taste Buds Had Left: A Crown of Candy PVP Scenario

[THIS POST IS ALL SPOILERS FOR A CROWN OF CANDY’S SEASON FINALE]

Like many fans, I was relieved that the last episode of A Crown of Candy did not end in PVP. Like many fans, I was also a little excited to see how a PVP would have played out. Now, obviously we can’t reliably predict any outcomes. There’s always roleplay and player agency, to say nothing of dice rolls, so even the most likely outcome is never guaranteed. However, we can look at the circumstances of each character going into a theoretical PVP, and potentially how that might affect their performance.

First, a huge thanks to Kyber Bonsai, Tillie the Paladin, and gluegunshots, who put together the transcripts for Episodes 16 and 17 on the D20 wiki! The transcripts were my main resource in gathering data, and saved me a lot more time and effort than if I had to go through the episodes, pausing every five seconds. Thank you for your invaluable work in making D20 more accessible! Thank you also to the D20 wiki editors! Most of the stats and information about magical items came from the character pages on the wiki, so thank you for your hard work! Thank you to Samir Barrett (@sketchmasterskillz), whose amazing official art for ACOC is included below. And a quick shoutout to the folks at CritRoleStats, whose pre-combat “What Do The Mighty Nein Have Left” posts inspired my own efforts here.

Data Collection

The data reflects the current HP and remaining abilities of each character at the point when Saccharina and Ruby make their decisions. Data collection began with the first spell slot used in Episode 16 (a 2nd level Pass Without a Trace from Liam before the battle started), and ended with Calroy’s death. I focused on HP and limited-use abilities such as spell slots and magical items.

For the sake of brevity, I have chosen not to include in this post every single class feature that each character has, and have instead highlighted limited-use abilities. Unless otherwise stated, assume the character has access to their regular class and sub-class features. Most of the class features that I’ve omitted can be found in the standard 5th edition Player’s Handbook, and the D&D 5e wiki contains the information for additional subclasses. I’ve also assumed that apart from magical items and Lou’s Great Weapon Master feat, no homebrew edits have been made.

For magical items, I’ve elected not to describe every single magical ability, except those with particular homebrew features (e.g. Payment Day, Swirlwarden). All magical weapons are +1 weapons (except Payment Day, which is +2).

While I was able to determine max HP for most of the characters going into the final battle, I was not able to determine Saccharina’s, as she did not take any damage in the fight, nor in the episode after she levelled up. At Level 9, her HP max was 58. She has an unknown Constitution modifier. If Emily followed the Player’s Handbook when building Saccharina, Constitution would be her second highest score as a sorcerer. Whether or not Constitution is her second highest ability score, I think it’s safe to assume that Saccharina would not have a negative modifier, giving us a range from +0 to +4 (I’m assuming she does not have a Constitution of 20).

Given those factors, we can estimate her Level 10 HP to be between 59 and 68. She already had her two levels of cleric when we met her, so every level up since then has been sorcerer levels. Sorcerers have a d6 hit die, so the lowest increase she could potentially have is +1 (1 + 0 CON mod) and the highest increase is +10 (6 + 4 CON mod). Since she has healing spells, her exact HP doesn’t matter too much unless it comes to very high damage from a single attack (à la Lapin and Keradin), which it could, but that’s impossible to predict. Suffice to say that for the purposes of this scenario, Saccharina has full health.

And now, on to the fun stuff!

Saccharina - Storm Sorcerer 8, Tempest Cleric 2

Cinnamon HP: 65/178 Breath Weapon: Unknown

Cinnamon was one of Saccharina’s greatest assets in the battle. Thanks to the enemy soldiers targeting Cinnamon with their attacks, Saccharina ends the battle with full health and most of her resources. While both her 5th level spells are gone and the Winterscoop Staff is out of charges, she still has a good number of higher level spells, as well as access to healing spells. There is the caveat that depending on how long it took between the end of the battle and the start of the PVP, the Haste spell she cast on Cinnamon in Round 4 of the battle may wear off (the battle ended during Round 11). If it wears off before PVP starts, Cinnamon can still attack on her turn. If it wears off during a round of PVP, he is stunned for a round, which could prove decisive.

In a PVP, Cinnamon could once again be her greatest asset, provided he is not stunned. While it isn’t clear whether or not his breath weapon recharged after its last use in the battle, he’s still a large enough threat with his HP and melee attacks that an attacker would most likely focus on downing him first. Lou revealed in the Adventuring Party’s for Episodes 16 and 17 that he’d been tracking Cinnamon’s HP and that in the case of PVP, he’d eliminate Cinnamon first to try and deescalate the situation. Given that Amethar is one of the characters who could drop Saccharina to 0 in one turn (depending on her HP), this may give Saccharina the round advantage she needs to bring down Amethar first.

Lou was absolutely correct in identifying Saccharina as his biggest immediate threat (other than Cinnamon, of course). With a 4th level Lightning Bolt and a Channel Divinity to deal maximum damage, Saccharina could easily drop Amethar at his current HP to 0 with one attack if he fails his save. In fact, despite having the lowest max HP of the party, Saccharina is easily one of the most dangerous PCs, thanks to Emily’s excellent build. With a 20 AC, a spell save DC of 17, and her levels in cleric, it would take a massive single attack to pose an immediate serious threat to her. However…

Ruby - Arcane Trickster Rogue 9, Shadow Magic Sorcerer 1

Ruby has been very strategic throughout the battle, saving her spells and limited abilities for a potential PVP at the end. The battle has taken out a chunk of her health, only about a third, but enough to put her in danger if she takes an attack from Cinnamon or Saccharina. As a rogue, she does have Evasion and Uncanny Dodge, which could allow her to mitigate some of the damage from such an attack, although she would still be brought down low and could potentially go down at the next attack.

Of the six PCs, Ruby is one of the best placed when it comes to her resources and abilities. She has all her spell slots, and full access to all her class abilities. In particular, as a first level Shadow Magic sorcerer, Ruby has the feature Strength of the Grave. If damage from a non-critical and non-radiant hit reduces her to 0, she can make a Charisma saving throw (DC = 5 + damage taken) to instead drop to 1 HP. Paired with the Locket of the Sweetest Heart (if Liam is nearby and on her side), this provides her with a little more wiggle room if she drops to 0.

Rogues in general are very versatile. Most of their class features are not limited use, and can be used in a variety of situations. For a partial caster, she doesn’t have very many damage-dealing spells, but her hefty weapon arsenal compensates for that, with Sour Scratch, Flickerish, and the Water-steel Dagger all having considerable abilities and also meeting the requirements for a Sneak Attack weapon. As we saw with Ciabatta, 5d6 Sneak Attack paired with the Water Steel Dagger is a deadly combination. Ruby also has Yak, who can grant her advantage on an attack or check. She may not be as openly formidable as Amethar, but she is just as dangerous in many ways.

Amethar - Storm Herald Barbarian 5, Battle Master 5

Amethar has been in the thick of battle, getting the kills on Grissini and Calroy, which is reflected in his HP (under half of his total). However, he has not used his Second Wind yet, which could give him the boost he needs to withstand a round of attacks from Saccharina and Cinnamon. While he’s already used up his Action Surge, he still has two attacks per round, and if anyone kills Ruby, Payment Day’s special ability could come through once again.

By design, high level barbarians are really difficult to kill, and Amethar’s levels in fighter make him even more scarily efficient in dealing damage. Rage halves any bludgeoning, slashing, or piercing damage, which effectively makes Saccharina and Cinnamon the only ones who can consistently deal full damage to him, since Liam has used up almost all his magical attacks. Unless Saccharina or Cinnamon deal significant damage in the early rounds of combat, Amethar is unlikely to go down until the end.

Having said that, Amethar is such an obvious threat that from a purely mechanical perspective, it makes sense for all the other characters to focus on him (à la Critical Role’s Battle Royales where nearly all the players focused on Grog). Ruby can be very deadly in her own right, but she’s not going to present the same immediate danger as someone who doesn’t take full damage from an attack. If Amethar tanks and absorbs attacks from other PCs, this could give Ruby leeway to either get her own attacks in or to make an escape.

Theo - Eldritch Knight Fighter 10

Yeah, you read right. Theo’s HP max is 140, with an AC of 21 (I had to calculate this three times because I couldn’t believe it). His current HP is equal to Amethar’s total max HP. Theo may not be a barbarian, but he’s not going down any time soon. He’s also been fairly conservative with his abilities, leaving him with the majority of his spell slots, as well as his Action Surge. He also has a good list of cantrips, notably Blade Ward (resistance against bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage until the end of his next turn) and Green Flame Blade (1d8 + spellcasting ability modifier fire damage to target w/in 5 feet). And of course, he has Princess to give him Help on attacks and checks (Find Familiar is so, so useful).

As Murph remarked in the finale, Theo doesn’t do what the other characters do, which is deal lots of damage. As Brennan subsequently remarked, Theo doesn’t do that because what Theo does do is not get hit by attacks. One of Theo’s potential roles in this hypothetical PVP scenario is to tank in the action economy. Like Amethar, he’s a big threat because he’s difficult to down. Thanks to the feature War Magic, he can cast cantrips as an action and make a weapon attack as a bonus action, so if he casts Blade Ward on himself each turn, he essentially becomes a foil to Amethar. If Amethar and Ruby focused their attacks on trying to down Theo, this could allow his allies the breathing space they need to heal or make their own attacks.

In Lou’s strategy that he discussed in the final Adventuring Party, he placed Theo as the last on Amethar’s kill order. While his order of kills is heartbreaking from a roleplaying perspective, it’s a very astute calculation. Given his build, Theo is likely to be one of the last characters left standing, if not the last. Even if he consistently uses Swirlwarden to tank damage for his allies, his considerable HP makes him unlikely to drop anytime soon, short of some really impressive damage rolls. Amethar could try and team up on Theo with Ruby to bring him down to more manageable health, but that would leave them open to other attacks. Murph really went a 110% in making Theo a bodyguard, and honestly, good for him, it’s what he deserves.

Liam - Gloomstalker Ranger 6, Assassin Rogue 4

First, props to Ally for their roleplaying! Most of the characters going into the battle anticipated a possible PVP at the end and saved their resources, but in-game, no one told Liam the full —or even half— story. This means Liam did not have any reason to hold back during the final battle, which is exactly how Ally played him. Liam used up all of his spell slots during the battle, as well as the Bursting Arrow feature on his crossbow, leaving him with his crossbow’s Ice Knife feature as his sole magical attack.

However, Liam is still a force to be reckoned with. He still has two attacks each turn, and he’s absolutely deadly in the first turn of combat, where Dread Ambusher gives him a bonus to initiative roles, and Assassinate gives him advantage against any creatures who haven’t taken a turn in combat yet, with any hit on a surprised creature being a critical hit. Dread Ambusher also gives him a bonus 10 feet of movement in his first round, and an extra attack with a bonus 1d8 damage if it lands. He also has 2d6 Sneak Attack, which paired with his other features, means that Peppermint Batman’s still got a few tricks up his sleeve.

From a roleplay perspective, Liam is the biggest unknown here. While he told Theo that he would protect Saccharina, that was without knowing the full story, and without being in the circumstances of an actual PVP battle. Ally’s WiFi cut out during the Adventuring Party when the cast discussed what they would have done in a PVP, which means we don’t know for certain who Liam would have sided with. If he defends Saccharina, that increases her numbers advantage. If he sticks with Ruby and Amethar, this potentially tilts the combat in their favour with another big damage dealer. He’s in a good place with his HP, which means he’s unlikely to go down soon, but he’s also got the lowest AC in the party. Who knows what might happen?

(Let’s be honest, Ally rolls a narrative nat 20 that results in something unbelievable, unpredictable, and world-altering happening. They are too powerful, and cannot and should not be stopped)

Cumulous - Long Death Monk 10

While not the absolute juggernaut that Theo is, Cumulous is best placed of all the characters in regards to HP, with full health and 6 temp HP remaining from killing a Meatlander. Although monks in general are not going to see the same staggering amounts of damage as other classes, and are more of a support martial class, Long Death monks excel in the kind of combat we saw in the finale - lots of lower-level enemies that are fairly easy to kill and gain temp HP from. With a good AC, Cumulous can take a few attacks before being in trouble.

Unlike other martial classes, monks don’t often get the dramatic killing blow. While they have a lot of attacks, each attack doesn’t deal that much damage by itself. Monks consistently erode away at an opponent’s health, or stun them so that their allies can get their hits in. Cumulous burned through a fair number of ki points during the battle, leaving him with a little under half his total, so he’ll have to be strategic about how and when he uses his ki. Most of the other characters have a good Constitution and decent ACs, so it may be in his best interest to save his ki for mobility.

Cumulous has two big assets in a PVP battle, which are his mobility and the many hogwild (and unlimited) features that monks have. With Unarmored Movement and Step of the Wind, he can move up to 150 feet in a turn, which includes across liquids and on vertical surfaces. He has Slow Fall, allowing him to negate up to 50 points of falling damage, and he’s immune to poison and disease (which may come in useful against the Water-steel Dagger). Thanks to being on Team Saccharina, he doesn’t have to worry about area of effect spells targeted at him. If all else fails, he can book the fuck out of there to a safe distance and use Gaseous Form to escape from there.

Conclusions

As I said at the beginning, there is no real way to predict the outcome of a PVP. Besides raw mechanics, there’s roleplay, player agency, and of course, the dice. Even looking at how each character is placed doesn’t necessarily translate to performance. Mechanically, Ruby has the most resources left available, but that doesn’t mean she’d be able to overcome a worse case scenario of four PC attackers and a dragon. Cumulous and Theo are doing the best in terms of HP, but would have difficulty downing another PC by themselves. Amethar and Saccharina both have the potential to deal massive damage, but sorcerers are called “glass cannons” for a reason, and even with Rage, Amethar is sitting at a low HP. Liam is an unknown quantity who could tip the scales in favour of one side or the other, but he has used up most of his devastating “war guy” abilities.

With the multitude of different factors (e.g. initiative order, possible crits, sheer buckwild shenanigans), it could realistically be either side left standing. Team Saccharina has the advantage of numbers and several very hard to kill PCs, Team Ruby has the advantage of big damage dealers (not to mention rogues and barbarians are A Challenge to deal with on their own, never mind together). As part of a team, each character has a better chance of survival and “winning,” with other characters being able to balance out their teammates’ weaker areas. #teamworkmakesthedreamwork All this, of course, without including the possibility of NPCs being convinced to join the fight.

But if there’s one thing we’ve seen in A Crown of Candy, it’s that there doesn’t have to be just two choices, either or. There’s a third possibility, not between the two but something more, of change. The fact that this is just a thought exercise bears that out. SJ/M’s plagiarism from fiction/media

I’m hoping to make a comprehensive list of all the sources SJ/M has outright ripped off from in the past. Feel free to comment down below or send an ask if you can think of anything.

SJ/M has very clearly ripped off of GRRM and JRR Tolkien’s works. Same goes for a lot of Anne Bishop’s works, too, and a lot of her favourite authors - so if anyone’s read books SJ/M has stated that she likes please let me know.

Note that this post will keep getting updated as I discover more evidences of plagiarism. Also note that there is every possibility that some resemblances are purely accidental and/or unintentional. So take it with a grain of salt.

T/HRONE OF GLASS

- “The Queen Who Was Promised” comes from GRRM’s “The Prince who was Promised” prophecy in ASOIAF, who also goes by Azor Ahai, who wields Lightbringer, and is also known as the Son of Fire.

- “Aelin” is probably derived from “Aelin-uial” in the Silmarillion by JRR Tolkien. Additionally, it may have been derived from Aerin Dragon-Killer/Aerin Firehair from Robin McKinley's The Hero and the Crown, as SJ/M stated it was one of her favourite novels.

- “Fireheart” is the name of Corlath’s horse in The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley, an author SJ/M admires.

- Empire of Storms, 2016, contains the infamous line ‘velvet-wrapped steel.’ And… so does Fifty Shades of Grey, in 2011: ‘Steel encased in velvet.’

- “Valg” comes from Terry Brooke’s The Sword of Shannara, another author SJ/M admires.

- “Hope. You cannot steal it, and you cannot break it." is awfully similar to the line from The Princess Bride about love "you cannot track that, not with a thousand bloodhounds, and you cannot break it, not with a thousand swords". SJ/M has said that she loved the movie.

- The infamous “You could rattle the stars” is a ripoff of Treasure Planet’s “You’re gonna rattle the stars.”

- “To Whatever End” comes from The Two Towers where King Theoden says it just before the battle of Helm’s deep begins.

- “You bow to no one” is said by Aragorn at the end of the Return of the King after his coronation.

- Orynth has white walls and is surrounded by snow capped peaks. It has large white walls and bears an unusually striking resemblance to Minas Tirith in The Lord of the Rings.

- Aelin’s journey mirrors that of Aragorn. The lost heir to a powerful throne, spends years in the wilderness denying their claim, joins forces with the elf/faes to reclaim it and has an immortal elf/fae as consort.

- Nehemia names Aelin ‘Elentiya’, saying, “I give you this name to use with honour, to use when other names grow too heavy. I name you Elentiya, ‘Spirit That Could Not Be Broken’.” It sounds similar in tone and cadence to the way Galadriel describes the light of Earendil to Frodo. The name Elentiya even sounds Elvish, and sits discordant with the other naming conventions in Eyllwe.

- Manon gathers the witches to go to war by starting a series of beacons, lit all across Erilea, from snow-capped mountains to the woodlands - directly from the Return of the King when Pippin helps Gondor call for aid.

- The wall defences of Orynth are completely sound, except there’s one more way in, through a grate in the water canal - another striking resemblance to a place in Lord of the Rings known as Helm’s Deep. There is even a scene where someone asks if there’s a secret passage the women and children can escape through.

- In EoS and ToD, Chaol is referred to as “Hand of the King”. In GoT the “Hand of the King” is a title given to the King’s advisor.

- The speech that Haldir gave when he arrived in Helm’s Deep, uniting the elven and human forces, is paraphrased at least three times in this book. Most notably when Manon brings the Crochan witches to fight alongside the humans. She actually says “Long ago, Crochans and humans fought side by side…”

- Kingsflame blossoms bloom only when a kingdom is at peace and the rightful monarch is on the throne. Also a very similar plot point to the White Tree of Gondor in The Lord of the Rings.

- The dam breaking in Anielle and flooding is based on the Isengard dam breaking in The Two Towers.

- Chaol crosses the Narrow Sea to get to the southern continent. In GoT the Narrow Sea is the body of water between Westeros and Essos.

- The “Wyrdkeys” are the Silmarils. There are 3 Wyrdkeys and 3 Silmarils. They’re ancient and powerful stones forged by a being of great power (Feanor, who made the Silmarils, was the most powerful elf of all time). Everyone is fighting over them. And just like one Wyrdkey eventually ends up in the Terrasen Amulet, one of the Silmarils ends up in a necklace called the Nauglamir. They’re also all destroyed/lost at the end.

- Kingdom of Ash, page 543: “It was not arrows alone that had been fired, and now peppered the snow.But heads. Human heads, many still in their helmets.” In Return of the King, the orcs catapult severed heads (still in their helmets) over the walls of Minas Tirith.

- “What say you, Queen of Witches?”…….“I shall answer Terrasen’s call.” is a blatant rip-off of the scene where Aragorn approaches Theoden after the beacons are lit in the Return of the King.

- Rowan is referred to as, “My friend through many dangers.” which is exactly what Gandalf says about Shadowfax, his horse, in Lord of the Rings.

- The Land before Time, 1988: ‘Some things you see with your eyes. Other things you see with your heart.’

Crown of Midnight, SJM, 2011: ‘Some things you hear with your eyes. Other things you hear with your heart.’

- ‘Spirit that could not be broken’ is seen in Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002) and Throne of Glass (2011).

- It’s possible that SJ/M may have plagiarised Maria V Snyder’s Poison Study(?) (published 2005). Both books begin with the heroine being released from prison and being offered the choice to be freed by working for the very rulers who’d imprisoned them. Also, Valek - Yelena’s love interest - is the greatest and most feared assassin in the country and also acts as a mentor to Yelena much like Rowan does in Heir of Fire. However, I think this is a questionable addition despite similarities because SJ/M began writing Queen of Glass in 2003 and all the aforementioned aspects that are similar were already present in the version she published online.

- S/JM has saved a pin of Connor Kenway from the Assassin's Creed series (AC3) as Rowan and Lorcan on Pinterest. Towards the end of the series they started using hatchets as weapons, which is Connor's choice of weapon, outside of swords, and is used heavily in art which features him. Aelin's assassin suit from the earlier books also had a blade built into it, which was very similar to the hidden blade the assassins in Assassin's Creed use.

- “Prythian”, the A/COTAR world, is taken directly from Anne Bishop’s Daughter of the Blood.

- The Archeron sisters could be based off the painting “The Acheson Sisters” by John Singer Sargent which features three women.

- The Illyrians could have been based off of the Eyriens from Anne’s Bishop’s Black Jewels series. Both are warrior races with bat wings that use a war blade to fight with. They also both completely refuse their women any right to fight and consider losing their wings to be the absolute worst thing that could happen to them.

- Feyre tells Tamlin, “The sun was shining when I left you.” which is basically Paris saying, “The sun was shining when your wife left you.” in the movie Troy (2004)

- Rhys proclaims, “Light can be found even in the darkest of hells,” Which is really close to Dumbledore saying (in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

- Daenerys: “We’re going to leave the world better than we found it.”

ACOWAR: “Leave this world… a better place than how you found it.”

- “Pity those who don’t feel anything at all.” is a variation of “Pity the living and above all, those who live without love,” said by Dumbledore in the Deathly Hallows.

- A Dance of Dragons, George R.R. Martin, 2011: ‘He is fire made flesh, she thought, and so am I.’

ACOMAF, 2016: ‘Fire - he reminded her of fire made flesh.’

- SJ/M may have also plagiarised The Chronicles of Prydain for ACOTAR wherein Prythian is altered to Prydain and The Cauldron is derived from The Black Cauldron. This may be especially true considering the fact that SJ/M has expressed her love for the books and stated it on Twitter. She also went on to mention that she got the name for Prythian from those books. Similarities to the cauldron can also be seen in the fact that SJ/M’s Cauldron can transform humans into fae while Alexander's Black Cauldron is able to resurrect the dead.

- Possible plagiarism(?) of Titanic: Rose is Feyre, Cal is Tamlin, Jack is Rhys. The story is similar - the girl is involved with a guy who seems nice enough, but turns out to be abusive etc. There are similar incidents of the table being chucked across the room/and the study being destroyed. Then you also have the girl being told the other guy isn't nice and she should stay away from him, but then it ends up being the other way round. The guy bosses her about, making her decisions for her and ends up dying for her later on.

- Rhapsody by Laura Thalassa and A/COTAR have awfully similar tropes. Both involve faeries, in both the main female lead leaves her barbaric boyfriend to go with the dark, elegant Fae boyfriend who came to collect a debt.

i'm admitedly not as good at continuities as i'd like but i always wondered about the timeline of the American Son fight 'cuz i feel like it would massively mess up Jhonny if he ever found out he dated Daken AFTER he used his freaky pheromones on Pete to hand him over to Norman for torturing, even if he never found out about the whole Skip Westcott bit of awful

I’m going to teach you my trick for lining up continuities. It’s not perfect, especially currently when Marvel is doing this thing where it’s publishing content out of order – ie, an event will still be going on, but we’ll know how it basically ends because the solo titles will have moved ahead of it, THIS IS NOT GREAT, MARVEL – so sometimes you have to fiddle with it a bit, but it generally works okay. Google your issue number of choice – in my case here I did Amazing Spider-Man #597, the issue where Peter and Daken fight – and bring up its page on the Marvel wiki. Underneath the cover image, you’re going to see some dates:

You want released, not published. Click on that and it’ll give you every comic published by Marvel in that week/month. Published first doesn’t always mean happened first, but it’s a good starting point.

Now we go to Dark Wolverine #75, which is the first issue where Daken makes contact with the Fantastic Four:

So these two events – Daken and Peter’s fight in Avengers Tower during American Son, and Daken making contact with the Fantastic Four – happen very close together, regardless of which one comes first on the actual timeline. I could probably piece it together with a little comprehensive Dark Reign rereading but I don’t have time for that because I’ve taken on eighteen other different rereads.

I do want to clarify a couple of things, though. While I think the Daken vs Peter fight is an interesting one due to the combination of their skill sets, and while Daken’s pheromone abilities often take on a sexual connotation with their use, that’s not what’s happening in the Daken vs Peter fight. Daken specifically is using his powers in the context of this fight to throw off Peter’s depth perception and visual acuity, which means Peter’s hits – and let’s remember Peter has the superior strength – don’t land:

Nothing about Daken’s powers sounds like something pheromones can do in real life, but this is a comic book about a guy who got bit by a radioactive spider and can lift trucks as a result, so whatever. So there isn’t any sexual coercion component to this fight. Daken doesn’t even flirt or use innuendo during it, like he does in matches with, for example, Gambit and Ben Grimm. This is purely a professional battle on his part. Peter also, I should note, wipes the floor with him as soon as he figures out how to get through the fight without relying on his vision. I’m sure if Daken had won he would have handed him off to Norman for the gold star sticker and extra Dark Avengers points, but he doesn’t personally get that opportunity. And if we’re going to talk sexual innuendo, it’s actually Peter-disguised-as-Mac-Gargan who casts aspersions on Daken, telling Norman that they fought because Daken was “after” Harry and “pulled him from his bed.” Peter ends up being tortured after Bullseye shoots him through the legs – and after Norman shoots him in the head. (He had a special mask made by Reed so it wasn’t that big a deal, sans the torture.) Daken is out cold on the ground at this point.

(Amazing Spider-Man #597)

But even without that Dark Reign reread, the fact that these two events happen very close together actually works in the favor of providing Johnny with an explanation he could accept over Daken fighting Spider-Man. Johnny knows Daken’s on the Dark Avengers. Daken specifically comes to the Fantastic Four in Dark Wolverine #75-77 seeking a secret alliance with them against Norman Osborn – one that ends with the Fantastic Four feeling in debt to Daken. If this fight between Peter and Daken came to Johnny’s attention, it’s easy enough for Daken to explain away that he was working to keep Norman from suspecting he might be anything but a good little Dark Avenger. Also, like I said – there’s no sexual manipulation in the Daken vs Peter fight. It’s a regular ol’ superpowered battle. There is, however, a sexual manipulation note used against Ben when Daken taunts him into beating him into the ground in Dark Wolverine #76, which was a move engineered to gain the sympathy of the Four towards Daken, and one that worked really well on Johnny.

(Dark Wolverine #76) Daken’s a good chess player, is the thing surrounding his interactions with the Fantastic Four. I think there’s quite a bit about this setup that, if Johnny knew, would have messed him up incredibly – after all, the entire interaction starts when Daken shoots Johnny in the leg with an arrow and then frames someone else for the deed. (Johnny never finds out it was Daken, btw.) Then there’s the faked kidnapping attempt on Franklin in Daken #4, where Daken appears to “save” Franklin from an intruder – but really orchestrated the entire attack himself. Finally, there’s the incident Johnny very much does know about because he was there for it at the end of Daken’s solo in Daken #22-23, when Daken drugs Reed and attempts to kill him by throwing him off a building. That incident alone I think would be enough for Johnny to look back on the relationship with some regrets.

Marjorie Liu confirmed on twitter that Daken and Johnny had a sexual relationship, but mapping the timeline of that takes a little poking around with the canon. They almost definitely had no sexual contact during Dark Wolverine #75-77 – which takes place either concurrently with or after Peter and Daken’s fight – because there’s just no time to account for it within the book. Daken definitely engenders Johnny’s sympathies and some affection for him during this period, though, which leads me to place the period where the sexual contact took place as between Dark Wolverine #77 and Daken #1, during which Daken has a bit of a charged phone call with Johnny that suggests a certain closeness. Shortly after this, Daken fakes his death, which Johnny takes very hard. They most likely had a last sexual encounter in Dark Wolverine #4, based on this staging:

Daken doing up his belt, Johnny on the bed with his legs spread – it doesn’t take a genius to read this scene as something of an aftermath. After this, Daken and Johnny don’t see each other until Daken #21. Note that Johnny’s stint in the Negative Zone was between these two things.

I mean, if Daken had used his pheromone powers on Peter to mess with him in a sexual manner, and Johnny found out about it after he’d slept with Daken, I do think it would upset him incredibly, but that’s not what happened in the Daken vs Peter American Son fight, and the laundry list of Things Johnny Would Be Upset About If He Knew Daken Did That is so long that I can’t see what is a fairly straightforward superhero vs villain fight (that Peter won) ending up particularly high on the list. On the other hand, I do think Peter would have a total fit if/when he found out Johnny had slept with Daken, but that it would be more on the “sleeping with a dude Peter’s fought/Wolverine’s 70yo son” side of things at least initially.

Joe stepped back into the city after a whole month away, his knapsack feeling heavy on his shoulders. He was really just glad to be back, and even the commotion was refreshing. Leaning against a fence was a beautiful boy in a long chiton, a wreath of laurel adorning his head. In one hand was a cup, and the other held a piece of bread; by the time the boy looked up, Joe was only a few paces away, so the boy set down his cup, stepped over, and hugged him. “Ah, I missed you so much!” Patrick said, barely leaving time to swallow his bite before speaking. “How was it, being a real soldier?”

“Oh, it was wonderful! We won, too.”

“I heard, I heard! I was quite worried about you, you know.” Patrick leaned away, his spare hand placed on Joe's shoulder. The boy gave a quaint smile. “You're still as handsome as they day we first met.”

“And I doubt you've listened to a word I've said since then, you're so enthralled,” Joe teased. He put a hand on Patrick's back and pulled him into a small kiss—Patrick pushed him away and giggled after a few moments, then unfastened Joe's chlamys and pulled it around himself instead. He struggled with the button, then looked over Joe with half-lidded eyes.

“Ah, you've got a tear in your chiton, Joe,” He said, pressing a fingernail against part of Joe's chiton. “I think it's got to be taken off once we get home, don't you agree?”

Joe laughed, swatting his hand away. “We'd better get back soon, then,” He said, finding the tailor's hand. “I know your more interested in looking through my bag than anything.”

“Well, now that you mention it, I think I am.”

They headed off towards Patrick's house. “Well, Patrick, I'm eager to hear about your time without me. How about the little scar on your nose?”

The boy giggled, taking a swift bite of his bread. “I went to the forest—” He started, taking a moment to swallow. “I was worried about you getting hurt, and I was worrying and worrying, so I took my bow and a quiver of arrows and I went up Mount, ah, Parnassus. Not all the way to the temple, mind you, but I found a nice clearing somewhere halfway up the mountain and I made a fire and readied my bedroll and I asked out, for Apollo and Nike and Athena, to keep you safe, and—and Joe, when I woke up, you know what happened?”

“No, I don't. What happened?”

“Well, none of them spoke to me, perhaps because I didn't go to the temple, but! When I woke up, a deer was standing over me. I'm willing to bet that, that if that wasn't Apollo, it was surely Artemis. That'd make sense, hm? I had the bow, and I've heard she comes to people on dreams as a deer. Perhaps Apollo does, too, I'm willing to bet that's right. The deer let me pet her—ah, she didn't have antlers, it was likely Artemis—she let me pet her, and then galloped off.” Patrick sighed, as if he were reminiscent. “I also saw what I thought must have been centaurs, but it was far off, so it was probably just a few wild horses.”

Joe smiled at him. “Thank you for the blessing, then. How'd you get the scar, though?”

“Ah! I tripped while hiking up and fell into some rather bad brambles and it cut my nose badly. That's all.” They stepped into Patrick's shop, then headed into the back rooms, the parts they considered to truly be home. “Do you like the Ionic chiton, Joe? 9: Man, there are so many NPCs. What constitutes an NPC??? Just someone you never take control of, or one of the background characters who isn’t an active role in the story??? fuck I don’t know. My first impression was the latter, so characters like Bugenhagen (from FF7, is Red XIII’s grandpa, has lots of knowledge) and Maechen (from FF10, also has lots of knowledge and lore to give out, and hey spoilers he’S ALSO AN UNSENT????). I like the NPCs that can tell me more about the world.

Currently I really dig Cor Leonis from FF15. He’s so cool. *v*

but according to the Final Fantasy wiki, which I just looked at to remember Maechen’s name, both definitions I just used are NPCs, so HEY GUESS WHAT MY FAVORITE IS Genesis Rhapsodos, from Crisis Core. He’s a roaring garbage fire, a literal Jrock star’s self-insert into FF7, but I love him so much haha. He’s a lot of fun I have adopted him as mine.

I’ve played far less Final Fantasys with strict job classes (that seemed to have gone out with FF6, as much as those characters are technically locked into their classes), so like. I played the Tactics games and a little bit of the first five games. I always liked the Red mages. Being able to cast black and white magic is cool, and I always liked the aesthetic, and they can use swords sometimes. But if I had to choose one to be, I’d probably want to be a Monk or Archer or Elementalist. If there was a class with spears that wasn’t fully armored, I’d wanna be that. I like the distance of spears/poles/arrows, or I’d use my fists. I have no desire for the in between apparently!

59: Haha, oh man. I always come back to Sinnatious’s fics The Fifth Act and Beloved for quality Genesis characterization. Like, those fics are so quality for me as a FF7 fan. Cloud is written as this half-finished person, which is to say he never lets himself rest and is always thinking one or two steps ahead instead of planning for the actual future, and is trying his best to figure out who he is after all the Shit he’s been through... and oh my god in TFA his interactions with Sephiroth are so painful and so good I cannot get Enough of it. Also like, highkey, Genesis is beautiful and written The Best in these two fics as a flawed hothead character with his pride and ferocity over what he cares about, and his snark is A+, and whoops I ship Cloud and Genesis so hard now haha.

But Final Fantasy as a whole has a similar problem as Harry Potter does for me in that I wasn’t quite on the internet at the time I was first into them so I don’t have a plethora of fics to highlight here. And the ones I DO remember were from fanfiction.net, so the quality of them wasn’t exactly the best. I read False Advertising, by Mako Red Eyes, which got me shipping Valenwind something fierce. Why did I decide Valenwind would be my ship? Who knows haha. And there was a dumb high school AU fic that crossed over with p much every final fantasy and also kingdom hearts and Yuna may have given Seymour a blowjob??? it was Bad, from what I remember. I read so much fanfic trash lmao.

The sources for all of these myths and legends come from a lot of different books and places, and due to the nature of folklore and such tales there are lots of variations in depictions and descriptions of each myth. This is simply my collection of descriptions I’ve come across that I find the most interesting.

Redcap: Border folklore

Creatures said to inhabit ruined castles, especially those that were the scenes of tyranny or wicked deeds. Descriptions from Briggs, Katharine's “An Encyclopedia of Fairies,” and Henderson, William's “Folklore of the Northern Counties of England and the Borders,” depict them as short old men with “long prominent teeth, skinny fingers armed with talons like eagles, large eyes of a fiery red colour,” and “grisly hair streaming down (their) shoulders.“ Their most prominent feature however is of course their red caps, which are soaked in the blood of their victims. They attack travellers that enter their lair by flinging stones at them, and are said to be unaffected by human strength. They can be driven away by words of scripture or crucifixes, which cause them to “utter a dismal yell and vanish in flames, leaving behind a large tooth.” Similar to Far Darrig, also known as Rat Boys, as they are said to be fat, have dark, hairy skin, long snouts, and skinny tails. They are said to be the creatures that replace babies with changelings.

Muki: Andes Region myth

Goblin like creatures that live underground, specifically as miners in mines. They are small and brawny with deep husky voices, long, bright blonde hair, a hairy red face, very pale skin, and a long white beard. Its eyes reflect light as if made out of metal. In some mining traditions, he has two horns that are used to break the rocks and point at the mineral veins. Sometimes he is described as having pointy ears. His legs sometimes take the shape of a goose or crow’s. Sometimes he shape-shifts into an animal or a blonde white man to appear to the miners and deceive them. Muki can make metal veins appear and disappear, and are known to use this power to make pacts with miners in exchange for coca or alcohol. They live forever, and prefer to live alone. They like to whistle loudly. They are known for stealing children (which when mixed with european mythology became most commonly unbaptised children.) However, other myths say it is instead unbaptised children that are kidnapped by goblins who then become the Muki.

Púca: Celctic Folklore

Irish (Gaeilge) for spirit/ghost, púca are considered to be bringers of good and bad fortune. They can choose to help or hinder rural/marine communities. Púca are said to be shape-shifters. They typically have dark or white fur or hair. They’re known to take the appearance of horses, goats, cats, dogs, and hares, as well as humans with animal features (such as ears or a tail.) Most frequently it takes the form of a sleek black horse with luminescent golden eyes. They are often mischievous in nature, and are known to entice humans to ride on their back, only to give them a wild and terrifying ride before dropping them back where they were taken from. Other stories recount them acting as guardians or helpful spirits- doing work for farmers that gave them gifts or intervening before an accident or interaction with a malevolent spirit. They are scared off by sharp things, perhaps stemming from the irish belief that cold iron has the ability to ward off the supernatural.

Goldhorn: Slovene folklore

A legendary white mountain goat/antelope with golden horns. One story says that its horns are the key to finding a treasure hidden in the mountains around Triglav, however when a hunter shot and pursued the creature up a dangerous mountain path, it went to a trail of healing flowers which it ate. Once healed, it ran at the hunter who, blinded by the creatures horns, lost his footing and fell to his feath. Similar in description is:

Kitsune: Japanese mythology

A fox yokai. Countless stories and legends depict kitsune as intelligent creatures with paranormal powers and impressive abilities. Kitsune is simply the japanese word for fox, but they have become closely associated with inari okami, the japanese kami (spirits/godlike phenomena) of rice, tea, sake, fertility, agriculture, industry, and of general prosperity and worldly success. They are believed to be the messengers of this kami. The more tails a kitsune has (which can be as many as 9) the older, wiser, and more powerful it is.

Wechuge: Athabaskan legend

A creature that has been possessed or overwhelmed by the power of an ancient spirit animals. The creatures are crafty, intelligent, and powerful. One becomes a wechuge by breaking a taboo and becoming too strong. They are often depicted with wings, and vary from being half-human, half animal to made of ice (one legend says the only way to kill a Wechuge is to throw it into a fire until it melts.)

Saitoh’s claim is wider than 1/0 = 0. It is x/0 = 0 for all real x. Real numbers are a field. The axioms of fields define the multiplicative inverse for every number except zero. Saitoh generalises this inverse to give 0^(-1) = 0. The axioms give the freedom to do this. The really important thing is that the result is zero - a number for which the field axioms hold. So Saitoh’s generalised system is still a field. This makes it attractive for algebraic reasons but, in my view, it is unattractive when dealing with calculus.

There is no milage in declaring Saitoh wrong. The only objections one can make are to usefulness. That is why Saitoh publishes so many notes on the usefulness of his system. I do the same with my system, but my method is to establish usefulness by extending many areas of mathematics and establishing new mathematical results.

That said, there is value in examining the logical basis of the various proposed number systems. We might find errors in them and we certainly can find areas of overlap and difference. These areas inform the choice of number system for different applications. This analysis helps determine where each number system will be useful.
