Toonami Weekly Recap 02/04/2023
My Hero Academia Season 6 Paranormal Liberation War Arc EP#121 (08) - League of Villains vs. U.A. Students: The Class 1-A and 1-B students led by Yaoyorozu work together to set up their trap, successfully getting Gigantomachia stuck in the ground, with the plan of forcing his mouth open and injecting a sedative into him to knock him out. They attempt to get in close to the League still on his back, but are pushed back by the villains, and literally blown away by the beast as they try to throw the sedatives inside. Dabi's fire prevents most of them from getting any closer, but using her Quirk, Mina is able to rush through to reach the beast. However, she ends up recognizing Gigantomachia from their encounter during middle school, and hesitates just long enough to miss her shot. He nearly crushes her, but is saved by Kirishima, who manages to hold onto his leg and successfully throws Mina's sedative canister into his mouth. The Pro Heroes return to battle, however everyone is stunned as Gigantomachia starts to transform his body. Meanwhile in Jaku, Shigaraki declares his conviction how heroes save people while abandoning their families, and that he is the result of them all ignoring the true problems of their society. He refuses to let up the assault, and ends up critically injuring Gran Torino, who at this time remembers back to the incident when Nana abandoned her son to save him, wondering if what they did was right. Shigaraki attempts to go after Eraser Head, but is held back by Deku and Ryukyu using all of their strength. Unbeknownst to them however, Shigaraki is in possession of a Quirk-Destroying Bullet, and uses his fingers to shoot it toward Eraser Head, hitting him in the leg.
Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun EP#11 (24) - Value: Faputa knocks Reg out and then tries to attack Riko, believing her to be the reason for his amnesia. However, her companion Gaburoon intervenes, shielding Riko and taking heavy damage in the process. Nanachi and Belaf then arrive, with Belaf allowing Faputa to attack him. As she kills him, Belaf transfers his memories of Vueko and Irumyuui to her, wishing for her to find her own value. Faputa is left confused at the new memories she has received, giving the other villagers and Nanachi time to evacuate Riko. However, with the village barrier breached, monsters from the outside begin to enter and attack the villagers. Faputa tries to repel the beasts, but is quickly overwhelmed and left near death while Gaburoon sacrifices itself to protect her. As she lay dying, several villagers come and begin feeding parts of themselves to her, transferring their value to her so she can regenerate herself. Conflicted by this show of compassion by the villagers she's supposed to destroy, Faputa fully regenerates and heads back out to challenge the monsters again.
Yashahime: The Second Act EP#47 (23) - Father and Daughter: To defeat Osamu, Towa restores her ability and destroys Kirinmaru's right arm. The dying Riku vanishes from existence, leaving Kirinmaru's small horn. Towa overcomes her grief and reunites with Setsuna and Moroha. Sessh?maru and Kirinmaru continues to clash with Sessh?maru taunting Kirinmaru that he is acting more like a human. As Kirinmaru was about to land a hit on Sessh?maru, Sessh?maru easily overpowers Kirinmaru, unable to see it coming as the battle continues. Towa uses the Zanseiken for the final time to save Rion. Towa tells the others to carve their own fate as she uses the sword's power to save Rion from her regretful past and Osamu Kirin as she offers her body to her. Rion is now freed from her past and Osamu Kirin, but at the cost of Towa's mind as she collapses which worries Setsuna and Moroha that they truly will never see their warm-hearted relative again. Rion fuses into Towa's body, as it disappears with Rion herself still remains. Defeated and overwhelmed by Sessh?maru, Kirinmaru is sent up to the Grim Butterfly's interior and is reunited with Rion. He apologizes to her for everything as they bonded again. Rion requests Setsuna to cut the red thread of fate between her and her father. Kirinmaru and Rion forgive the girls. As Kirinmaru and Rion die peacefully, Zanseiken and Bakuseiken meld into a single sword of Amatsumikaboshi, and Towa returns to the real world alive. The others see the Grim Butterfly disappearing from the sky. Towa, Setsuna and Moroha are congratulated by their families, while returning to their peaceful lives.
Yashahime: The Second Act EP#48 (24) Finale - A Never-Ending Future: Per the request of a fully revitalized Riku, the Half-Demon Princess embark to the west to deal with demons of both low and high rank causing trouble, now that the balance of power has shifted with the demise of the Beast King of the Eastern Lands, by traveling to the western lands that were once dominated by their mighty grandfather.

Hey so as much as a hot button this fandom can be, let’s please remember- with Season 2 just airing on Toonami starting today, there’s gonna be people in the tags who haven’t actually seen Yashahime Second Act yet! So even though S2 has been out, let’s please try to be courteous and tag spoilers in the tags despite it not being new for the sake of newer viewers!
(I’ll also be trying to keep discourse out of the main tags or keep opinions properly tagged with spoiler tags!)

The more I think about, the more I think Sesshomaru's biggest problem in Yashahime narratively is that in the second half especially he really had nothing to do. It's another thing I appreciate about the manga tbh, the fact that he's doing stuff. And we can blame this on anything: whether or not a third season was intended but cancelled due to the company merging, Hishida's extremely divergent opinion on Sesshomaru and the metaplot around Second Act, but regardless of what it's blamed on I think Sesshomaru's biggest issue was that he really had nothing to do until the very end.
Early Yashahime hinted that Sesshomaru would inevitably become an enemy of the girls be Treekyo (also originally meant to be a villain), but his role in S1 was largely being Kirinmaru's lapdog: he even outright asks if Kirinmaru basically has any errands he wants him to carry out after the first time he confronts the girls. He's basically a forcibly chained dog forced to become subservient because Zero essentially had him by the balls by using the lives of his family as hostage. Sesshomaru was put into a position where he could barely do anything because doing so would sign an instant death ticket for his wife, and even his children (and we do see that he both paid for Setsuna's upkeep and tried to train her from afar as a child) would be put immediately on a horrid radar if he acted out. That is until the end of S1 when Rin makes it clear that nothing could be worth Towa's and Setsuna's safety and Sesshomaru makes it clear he's finally had enough of this bullshit and makes it quite clear he will kill Zero no matter the cost, even if it costs Rin her life, because that is Rin's own desire at this point for the sake of the kids. S1 is showing the one arrogantly proud Sesshomaru who once would have scoffed at the idea of loving a human (let alone having children with one) and gladly would have left her to her fate now forced to bow down to a heel because of the compassion he learned while only being able to give very distant support to the yashahime until he's able to bequeath the broken Tenseiga to Towa (WHICH SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO KEEP). It's tragic, seeing that the result of him learning what made him a better person (but I think too many of us forget this isn't his default to all humans). Maybe it's not something everyone liked, but I thought it was a nice tragedy.
Then Second Act comes and Sesshomaru really has nothing to do until the end. He helps give direction to the girls but doesn't really do a lot. Season 2 really hammered in the rite of courage and cowardice thing, which is fine on paper, but it also reduced Sesshomaru to an extremely passive role except for a few key scenes and the very end. Rather than hunting down Zero to settle things once and for all, potentially creating a rift with his daughters who are now learning more about their mother and yearn to resolve this another way. He doesn't really do much until Rin is saved and then takes the frontline against Kirinmaru who never even got a rematch with the girls despite that being in the third OP and is overall not- that consequential. His role is more or less just to create a fight that firmly solidifies that he is the strongest character currently alive in the Inuyasha/Yashahime universe in terms of pure fighting ability (except maybe pure yokai Inuyasha if both were unarmed, but you can argue that if he's armed with Bakusaiga he'd come out on top), but that's kind of it. He doesn't really have any major plans than "Well hopefully Setsuna the girls Setsuna and Towa Setsuna can save Rin," and tell Moroha were to go too.
Dunno. Feel like that was my biggest gripe more than anything with Sesshomaru in S2. It's like that meme with "C'mon... do something..." but then when he did start doing something it was kinda just shounen action, which was really cool, but doesn't really say anything about his character. It's no wonder Towa was so conflicted about Sesshomaru not really doing anything by the end. Girl was pissed and it's kinda hard to blame her.

Takashi Shiina Blog Translation - "I later noticed that the subtitle is similar to "Battlefield Bonds"": Sunday S December 2021 -
10/26/2021
Tumblr media
Even though it was said that "It's a Sunrise work, so why not we use Gundam content for the subtitle every time (laugh)", but it wasn’t serious. Therefore, I thought seriously about it and named it 'Sengoku no Kizuna' (Bonds in the Sengoku era), but it turned out to be Gundam-like. Was it a coincidence or an unconscious act?
Well then, the second episode is a series of scenes that aren’t in the anime. The scene where the twins are born is probably barely familiar.
As mentioned earlier, the arrangement is the fate of the manga version... Mainly because of the quantity (of pages). So when explaining that the parents have gone missing, the story is considerably quicker if they are all together. When riding the oxcart, they are all together. The information in the early stages of the manga is pruned and summarized, such as Moroha and Setsuna growing up together and already forming a duo, speeding up the development of the manga. The exterminator's village and the corpse shop will soon appear, but for now, the priority is the main quest progression, with a loose “Kaede-baachan was in charge of upbringing”. The reason why the tree of ages has a mask on her face and her language is archaic-like is to reduce Kikyo-sama's characterisation a little and emphasize that “despite having inherited her heart, she is a different person”. I'm happy that she appears as a guest character because she’s an onee-sama who went through great hardships. I thought it wouldn't be too much to emphasize that she is at peace in Nirvana (laugh). The impression they give off is quite different from the original work, but I was able to incorporate Riku-kun and the dream butterfly in an arranged form, so I think I was able to structure the story without straying too far from the original work, even though it has a strong sense of uniqueness.
Meanwhile, the characters’ development was also explored in a more compressed form. The relationship between Moroha-chan and Setsuna-chan, who already trust each other, and the emotional portrayal of Kaede-baachan, who has become fragile with age, are approaches unique to the manga version, which is slightly different from the original anime storyline. It quite leaves a good taste in the mouth and I think this is one of the best parts of media mix(1) development.
The point I’m particular about is the scene where papa Sota can’t go on an adventure because he’s an adult. He really wants to go to the world of tales, but Wendy, as an adult, can’t go to Neverland. He is a middle aged man. In the manga, he has the job of speaking for me, an old man who yearns for the world of tales and won’t become an adult (laugh).
When I add arrangements, I try to create a synergy with the anime. The anime is thought to be a gateway to the world of Inuyasha for a new generation, and especially for the younger ones to enjoy, so I, as a big friend of the anime, decided to make some parts a little more linked to Inuyasha, and while I’m at it, give it a little more Japanese-style dark fantasy flavour. I want to drag children who come to read the manga by accident into the swamp by saying "Wow, it's a manga version of Yashahime" (laugh). The setting and the structure have changed a little, but if you look closely, there are actually not many completely new elements; it's just an adaptation of the anime version. If you read the comic after watching the anime, the cuteness of the three princesses will be enhanced, and if you read the comic and then you watch the anime, the characters will have more nuances (note: not 100% sure about this last word in this context), which will make you love them more... My objective is to make that kind of work.
Last time, the guest yokai was Mitsume Jourou (2), just as she appeared in the original story. This time, as a jab before Kirinmaru-sama's men start to make their move, I thought of a good yokai... As a nod to the order of appearance in “Inuyasha”, I had the nostalgic corpse crow, who caused the scattering of the shikon no tama, make a guest appearance. This time, the ravens are the children of that one in the original work, so there are seven of them. No, you see, it is said that ravens have seven children on the mountain (laugh).
Regarding the true identity of the ladies wearing juunihitoe (3)… There are too many hints, so I think there may be Inuyasha fans who have already guessed, but please keep it a secret until the next issue and look forward to it.

this is gonna be long so i'll make it into 3 asks. what do you think of the ship usagi/mamoru? i saw an inukag comparing the ships and putting down usamamo saying inukag is better. they were comparing the reincarnation thing and saying inukag fell in love organically while usamamo are forced by past to stay together. but actually inukag were forced to travel together so it wasnt that organic as they say. and in manga, usamamo were already in love before knowing their past. they said that they +
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm putting everything in one answer.
To be honest, I'm speechless, comparing Usagi and Mamoru to inukag and then saying that the second couple are better than first couple 🤣🤣🤣 It really started to amuse me because they was comparing every ship to inukag and being so uncritical and saying that they are better. This is the second time I've heard such a pathetic ship compared to others.
Mamoru and Usagi have a really good relationship and fell in love as soon as they looked into each other's eyes. Their original story that I read is better and Mamoru is better. To be honest, even their relationship from the 90s is MUCH BETTER, even though sometimes I thought Mamoru was an asshole and annoying.
I completely support your opinion Usagi reincarnated and accepted that she was a tragic princess and didn't want that to happen again. Mamoru supports her. Their love endured many things, even death. She didn't moan every 5 minutes or get angry at being compared to Serenity. This already shows Usagi's maturity, and she was 14 years old.
Their love is described as going through many difficulties, giving them the strength to overcome their enemies so as not to lose what they lost in their former lives.
Chibiusa is their child, she came and helped her parents in difficult times like the one where Haruka kissed Usagi and Mamoru saw it. The three of them love each other so much. They are a beautiful family.Mamoru and Usagi's love is so beautifully portrayed. Even their arguments in both series are presented in such a mature way than inukag, where they have to argue every 5 minutes like children in a sandbox.
Chibiusa connects them, it is not a condition to keep them. She strengthens them. Mamoru and Usagi are so much better! Their romantic love and family is portrayed in a good way! really beautiful!
They were already comparing Akane and Ranma from what I remember, and now this. I'm waiting for Nanami and Tomoe or Kyo and Furuba to be compared for laughs. Both couples are MUCH better than inukag, their conflicts are also better written and the changes that take place in the characters and their relationships. What about inukag? inuyasha is afraid to say anything about Kikyou, he doesn't trust her and rightly so because she is STILL jealous of Kikyou and scolds him for it, lecturing him when she herself doesn't trust him and acts like she was 15, their relationship hasn't changed. The only thing that has changed is the status from friend and girlfriend to wife. She doesn't trust him either because she didn't take off his beads. This ship is so unchanging, and yashahime shows her as an even worse parent because instead of staying with her daughter, she chooses inuyasha and is trapped with him, and her daughter went through hell. Even if yashaihme is not canon, the creators were aware that she would choose Inuyasha instead of staying with her daughter and taking care of her. Inuyasha is more important than her daughter, after what she said, I also heard that she's an even worse bitch. Yes, but this inukag is supposed to be the best apart from all ships ever!
Tumblr media
I don't care if InuKik were called the worst anime couple on some list. At least I belong to a fandom that is aware of the advantages and disadvantages of InuKik and is not blindly focused on the ship. Seriously, I started to think, as I once did whenI was more active in the fandom, that inukag is some kind of cult. And this is an ordinary fictional ship from manga and anime.

Oh yes, you'll run into demons that will try to make your life difficult. Just because you're the daughters of Sesshomaru. [...] Towa, Setsuna.  You both have grown up to be so strong. Your father is so proud of you. I know he is.”

Toonami Weekly Recap 01/28/2023
My Hero Academia Season 6 Paranormal Liberation War Arc EP#120 (07) - Disaster Walker: A news helicopter reports in on the devastating destruction of Jaku City, with All Might watching on nervously. In the city, Shigaraki is able to efficiently deal with Endeavor and Ryukyu's attacks, while the Heroes attempting to assist are forced to face against the newly awakened "Near High-End Nomu"; Nomu with the strength of a High-End but lacking coherent thoughts. Shigaraki tries to use this opportunity to kill Eraser Head, but Deku suddenly arrives and tackles him, declaring his and Bakugo's intentions to save their teacher. As Endeavor returns to the battle, he agrees to let the two students join in the fight. Shigaraki hopes to try and capture Deku and escape, but in the process, he ends up calling him his "little brother", surprising the two. He realizes that the will of his master still persists within the Quirk, rejecting it and declaring his desire to be better than All For One. The Heroes proceed to overwhelm Shigaraki with their coordinated attacks. Meanwhile at the Villa, Gigantomachia carries the League of Villains members on his back in an attempt to reach Shigaraki; right before he does Dabi nabs Skeptic to take with them, planning to use him for a specific purpose. Mt. Lady is able to barely hold Gigantomachia off, slowing him down while being pushed backward. Midnight attempts to use her Quirk to send the villain back to sleep but is thwarted by the attacks of Dabi and Mr. Compress, which knocks her to the ground, injuring her. She calls on Yaoyorozu and tells her to create anesthetics in order to put the beast to sleep, just as their call is cut off. With the Heroes busy fighting the villains and only the U.A. students remaining, Yaoyorozu takes charge, issuing orders to her classmates as they prepare to intercept Gigantomachia.
Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun EP#10 (23) - All That You Gather: Nanachi wakes up, having been given Belaf's memories of Faputa. Belaf explains he took in Nanachi to pass on his memories, and releases both Nanachi and Mitty from his service. However, with the village barrier breached, the Curse has entered the village, destroying any villager that touches it. Since this Mitty is a copy created by Iruburu, Nanachi is forced to say goodbye to Mitty for a second time as she dies, and then heads off to find Riko and Reg. Meanwhile, Reg recovers from his coma and wakes to find Faputa has already slaughtered a number of villagers. Riko pleads with Reg to put a stop to Faputa's rampage, and Reg heads out to confront her. Hurt that Reg would renege on his promise, Faputa engages Reg in battle, where she has flashbacks of the first time she met him when he was journeying to the surface. In return for promising to help Faputa enter the village, Reg made Faputa promise to accompany him on an adventure after she was done with her business. Reg has vague recollections of his meeting with Faputa and hesitates in the middle of the fight, once again asking for her to stop her rampage. Faputa however takes the opportunity to attack Reg again.
Yashahime: The Second Act EP#46 (22) - The Grim Butterfly of Despair: The group enters inside the Grim Butterfly's interior, with Setsuna and Moroha proceeding to help Rion, Towa clashes with Osamu. As Riku was about to tell Towa on what Rion is, Osamu tells him to be silent as Riku gets trapped into spider webs dragging him all the way up to the ceiling. Outside of the interior of the Grim Butterfly, Kirinmaru states on how long he has waited for this as Sessh?maru says how pitiful he is as their swords clash. Setsuna and Moroha are cutting down multiple colored threads of fate as Moroha asks Rion on what she wishes for which further enrages Rion with her yelling and to leave her alone as more rainbow color strings of fate drops in. Osamu uses the Zanseiken to drain Towa's power, as she is helpless against him and is on the verge of defeat as he points at her.

You have plenty of salt despite how much you genuinely like Yashahime so... how about this: got any salt regarding Rin in particular?
OK AS A SESSRIN SHIPPER THIS IS A REALLY FUN ONE HOLD ON THIS HAS BEEN BUGGING ME FOR FUCKING AGES NOW
this is JUST my take feel free to disagree but i feel like there's lowkey
two Rins in this same show, that we see in S2. these are almost two separate characters but both are married to Sesshomaru, both were in the tree, and both are the parents of the twins
and like. i REALLY like one of these Rins
Tumblr media
(sorry about this horrible awful quality i'm on my work computer and don't wanna go take screenshots properly so i'm just using really old shitty phone pics i took a long time ago)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LIKE. I REALLY LIKE THIS RIN. i like the Rin that literally held a fucking decomposing virus sword to her neck and outright told her husband "if it'll keep our kids safe then don't hesitate to cut off my head" or when KNOWING she couldn't do SHIT against Kirinmaru like... literally at MOST buying her kids like, three more seconds to live (and i might be REALLY generous with three seconds, just because i like Rin) knowing that Kirinmaru would just instantly slaughter her but still be willing to do that because she's a mom and that's her precious family she loves with all her heart
and then we get to shit like, "i can't hug you yet even though running up to you and hugging you before you could even Not Hug Me Back would've been what was most ic for me," stupid-ass bullshit, generally being extremely passive (which makes sense in some capacity considering she can't fight) and just kind of once again feeling like a character who only really follows around what Sesshomaru does and says
(i know that scene in the last episode is. VERY infamous and kind of well-deserved but like while i do agree that it was NOT the right art and voice acting direction i UNDERSTAND what it was TRYING to accomplish which i think is kind of in-line with the Rin i really like so i'm not as harsh on it as others even though it was given incredibly poor direction in how to be executed which is creating discourse about it To This Day)
like, i KNOW this was a filler episode, but remember that one episode where Jaken was poisoned and Rin, this little kid, completely on her own basically went into demon territory and risked her life just to get the herbs that would save Jaken? (correct me if i'm wrong about this one i THINK this is how it went it's been like over a year since i saw the movie) the kid that in third movie wanted to try to bodyblock Setsuna no Takemaru from being able to reach Kagome because even though Kagome was stronger than her, she wanted to protect someone she cared about?
i feel like ONE of the Rins in HNY is absolutely that little girl grown up and now a mother and still having that fire in her she's had her entire life and the other is. really just kind of there to follow Sesshomaru around. i really love one of these Rins a lot and the other Rin i'm. kinda apathetic about. i know there's only realistically so much she COULD have done being the one normal person among all these fighters with powers but STILL i feel like we only got to see that Rin in like, glimpses, which is a shame bc i REALLY like that Rin that has the biggest balls of pretty much everyone in this entire franchise
and that is my Rin salt ty for coming to my ted talk i need to make rp icons of Rin at some point that's unrelated to anything but i should go icon Rin one day
