Hey there, torch60 team, wanted to ask something silly about this game over screen from Soma Union, since it had been bothering me since the two times I saw it on my run of the game

Do Spirits just dissipate upon death, and there's nothing but Zero's robes somewhere off screen or do they not and Zero's devoid of their life and their hat off screen?

(ps: I'm the guy that reported the crashes on Twitter)

So! This game over screen is kind of an homage to the old-fashioned "Character's weapon stuck in the ground" deal like in a lot of RPG Game Over screens.

As for what happens when Spirits die... well, that's definitely up to interpretation, haha. If it means anything though, I drew a lot of inspiration from the black mages in Final Fantasy IX. What's inside those clothes? Who knows!

Vegan in Ubud

Endlich folgt der nächste Bali Beitrag, diesmal zum Thema: Vegan in Ubud. Wie sieht das Angebot in Ubud aus? Was waren unsere liebsten Spots? Wie teuer ist veganes Essen in Ubud?

Schon auf der Fahrt nach Ubud habe ich euch nach Tipps für Ubud gefragt und anhand der Antworten direkt erkannt: Ubud ist das absolute Essensparadies. Dieser Eindruck hat sich dann auf jeden Fall bestätigt. In der Innenstadt Ubuds findet man so viele Cafés, Warungs (Restaurants mit lokaler Küche, oftmals Familienbetriebe), vegane Restaurants und coole Eisdielen, dass es unmögich ist, alles auszuprobieren. Ich habe euch die Liste der meistgenannten Restaurants am Ende des Blogposts angehängt, damit ihr noch etwas mehr Auswahl habt.

Vegan in Ubud:

Wie fast überall in Indonesien war es kinderleicht in Ubud vegan zu essen! Die Yoga Kultur beziehungsweise der Holistic-Hype haben die Stadt geprägt und es gibt viele Cafés, die sich auf rohes Essen, rohe Kuchen, gesundes, veganes Eis oder vegane Küche spezialisiert haben. In den Warungs ist die Auswahl ebenfalls riesig und es gibt sogar eigene vegane/vegetarische Warungs. Die westlichen Cafés und Lokale bieten explizit gekennzeichnete vegane Speisen und das Verständnis für Veganismus ist definitiv vorhanden. Selbst, wenn Lokale keine veganen Optionen haben, sind sie gerne bereit, Anpassungen zu machen und ein Gericht vegan zu servieren.

extremely in-depth analyzations of Miracle of Sound songs: DITTO

‘I’ve been wanting to do an in-depth look at an MoS song for a while; to piece apart the meanings and the symbolism in the language, and I thought that there would be no better option than his song DITTO, made for the game SOMA. Please note that I’ll be giving SOMA spoilers below!

To preface this, I should give a brief summary of the basis of SOMA’s story; Simon Jarrett, a man living in the present day who happens to be afflicted with a brain problem that would slowly kill him, goes in for an experimental brain treatment. However, as soon as the treatment ends he finds himself in an underwater facility where something has gone horribly wrong. He learns that, somehow, he ended up in the future, and that in the future, the world had been struck by a comet. The people in the facility had been experimenting with copying a human consciousness and placing it into something else, initially just for utility purposes, but after the comet strikes it turns into a race to get as many consciousnesses aboard a self-sufficient ‘ARK’ that will revolve around the sun. Over the course of the story, Simon discovers he hadn’t teleported into the future, but rather had his consciousness copied by the experimental treatment and that copy placed into the body he spends the game in.

Now that that’s out of the way, we can begin!

The song begins, after a short instrumental buildup, with these lines: “Thoughts swim in black holes

A multiverse of minds I ride

Divide and multiply by

None”

To begin with, ‘Thoughts swim in black holes’ would probably be a reference to the massive amount of time Simon’s consciousness spent as a copy without a body to think in. This leads into the next line, ‘A multiverse of minds I ride’, which could be related to two things; Either Simon’s consciousness mingling with the other ones, or related to the fact that Simon has been riding around in four different bodies throughout the entire game.

‘Divide and multiply by none’ is one line I’m extremely sure of the meaning for; the consciousness, as a non-corporeal thing that has no matter, takes up no space, and generally exists as ‘nothing’ being divided from the original body it was in (in this case, Simon) and multiplied to be placed into a new body (the diving suit(s) Simon spends the game in).

The next lines go as follows:

“Shared scraps of one soul

The blindfold tears into the eyes

Scream with the voices of

No-one”

‘Shared scraps of one soul’ would be another way of describing the act of Simon’s consciousness/’soul’ being divided and shared among multiple bodies, so we’re safe there. However, ‘The blindfold tears into the eyes’ is a bit hard for me to pin down. If I had to take a guess, I’d say it’s about how, in-game, Simon’s mind masks the concept of him being put into the body of a machine for his own wellbeing until accepting that fact is the only option.

‘Scream with the voices of no-one’ is even harder. I’d say it’s a reference to the enemies in the game, the delusional, aggressive machines that believe they’re people that have been long dead and don’t exist anymore; in that sense, it could also be another reference to Simon.

Following these are the two lines

“A yawning empty space

Defective interface”

These are probably the easiest lines to pin down in the whole thing; ‘A yawning empty space’ talking about the vastness of the black ocean (or, more specifically, the Abyss) and ‘Defective interface’ either being a reference to the now-ruined machines all over the complex or Simon’s own interface malfunctioning in the presence of certain monsters.

And now we finally get to the first chorus:

“Stare through the mirror of the self

Divide the zero

Reflect the face of someone else...”

‘Stare through the mirror of the self’ is a pretty clever reference to a scene in the game where Simon, now wrought with an existential crisis, stares into a mirror as his mind is once again forced to recognize the fact he isn’t a human anymore. However, rather than being a reference to the scene itself, it’s a reference to the meaning and story behind the scene.This is also the meaning of the line ‘Reflect the face of someone else’; we’ve already covered what ‘Divide the Zero’ means.

After an aggressive electronic instrumental, we get to the second half of the song;

“Force flex the engine

Courtship of chemical and chrome

Locked into unions of 

Demand”

Right now we’re out of references to Simon and the other consciousnesses and into references to the facility of a whole; ‘Force flex the engine/courtship of chemical and chrome’ would without a doubt be a reference to the WAU and its misguided struggle to help the facility by spreading, combining itself with machinery, forcing things that can’t function anymore to function, be they human or machine.

‘Locked into unions of demand’ is a reference to the people -- specifically, the workers -- of the facility, struggling against the demands issued to them, especially after the comet strikes, and ESPECIALLY especially after the WAU starts spreading.

‘Tissue to tendon

Congeal to seal my catacomb

Secrete the soul from rancid glands’

Now it’s getting into how the WAU deals with people -- forcing things to mend, congealing around them, but also leaving them stuck in one spot, in horrible agony until someone or something kills them personally is referenced in ‘Tissue to tendon/congeal to seal my catacomb’.

‘Secrete the soul from rancid glands’ is interesting. As we’ve previously established, mentions of the ‘Soul’ in this song are references to consciousnesses; as it stands, it’s probably referencing how the WAU personally injects consciousnesses -- like Simon -- into bodies.

The following lines, ‘The ocean’s cold embrace/defective interface’ are mostly just reiterations on the earlier pre-chorus lines.

The chorus also remains unchanged line-wise, although it lasts longer as it repeats itself once and is folowed by an even longer, harsher instrumental; after a bit of the instrumental, words start to become clear in the music, repeated until the end of the song;

‘DIVIDE THE ZERO DOWN

SUNDER AND MULTIPLY ME

DIVIDE THE ZERO DOWN’ 

The sudden shift into first person is an interesting change. While we have previously established what ‘Divide the zero’ means, the second line, ‘Sunder and multiply me’, puts it into an even clearer perspective; it is indeed about the consciousness, which in all real terms is the person more than their body is, being divided/sundered from the body and multiplied to be put into something else.

And that’s the end of the song! I put a lot of thought into this, but the song was intentionally up to interpretation; anyone reading this, what do you think the meaning of the lines would be?

The Gist of The Rg Ved

Rg Ved is the Ved of Knowledge: Knowledge of existence, Being and Becoming, right from “the beginning of time in this cycle of creation” to “the present”, as the respected author Shree Dr. Tulsi Ram says “From the Zero hour to 2400 hours of cosmic time in this cycle of creation”. At the zero hour, the state of Being, whatever it was or was not, is beyond thought and words, because “thoughts and words” did not exist then. There was neither Being nor non-Being (There was neither ‘Sat’ nor ‘Asat’): everything we call or understand by being ‘existent’ or ‘non-existent’ in our languages and our mental processes lay asleep, deep in the Dark, darker than Darkness itself, except That Eternal One with It’s own supreme potential, Svadha, awake as ever, self-breathing without breath and air. That One, moved to thought and Sankalpa, and that Sankalpa was the Big Bang, when the zero state of time and existence exploded into Rtam and Satyam, The Constant and The Mutable, according to the Ratm law of Mutability.

There, the creative evolution started. Rg Ved describes the tri-union of Parmatma, Jivatma and Prakriti… The further evolution of Prakriti into Thought (Satva gun), Energy (Rajas gun) and Matter (Tamas gun); The various Divine Expansions / Expressions / Manifestations of The Supreme Divinity into it’s Existential Manifestations such as Indra, Agni, Vayu, Soma and others; various material, biological and post biological forms; the nature and character of the individual and society; community living; AND the Divine Covenant, Communion and Reunion of the evolved pure souls (Jivatmas) with the Divine.

Rg Ved begins with the individual’s connection with Agni, The parental power of light, inspiration and of life itself and ends with the social commandment: Live and Move together, speak together, know one another’s mind in unison, and all of you observe your Dharma as the wise of all time do, to achieve your goals in life.

According to the Rg Ved, The universe is an expansive universe, A viraat Purusha, The Narayan, a real, living, breathing, intelligent, organismic, self-organising, self-consious, sovereign system, the Soul of which, immanent and transcendent, is the Supreme Brahma.

MAY DAY 2018: A BETTER DAY AHEAD

FOR DEMOCRACY AND BEAUTIFUL DAYS FILL THE STREETS ON MAY DAY!  

We are the majority of Turkey’s people.

We are 75% of this country – those who are trying to live paycheck to paycheck.

We are the true owners of everything that is good and beautiful in this country.

We are Turkey’s working class. As the crushing majority of the republic, we are ignored in the new regime.

We have born witness to which classes have benefited and which classes have suffered under this order since the state of emergency was imposed on 20 July 2016.

This order is an order that has taken advantage of the state of emergency to outlaw strikes and ignores union rights and freedoms.

This order is an order that rules by fiat, not by law, as it uses decrees to violate the constitution.

This order is an order that has used decrees with zero connection to the 2016 coup to change subcontracting laws that affect millions, ushering in discrimination and a loss of rights.

This order is an order that has transferred the unemployment fund to the bosses, even as 6 million jobless scream that they can’t make ends meet.

This order is an order in which everyone could lose their job with the stroke of a pen thanks to the state’s destruction of job security.

This order is an order that arbitrarily obstructs every democratic quest for rights, from hall meetings to marches and from petitions to attempts to go to court.

This order is an order that seeks to place all unions, democratic organizations, professional chambers, universities, newspapers and TV stations under the tyranny of a single man.

This order is an order that tells everyone, especially the working class, “to make do with what you have.”

This order is an order that has surrendered labour, nature, cities, sugar factories and the basic rights to education and health to capital, unrestrained profit and the drive for speculation.

This order is an order that learned no lesson from Soma and Ermenek, that abandoned workers’ health and job security to capital’s drive for profits and that killed 2,006 workers on the job in a single year.

This order is an order where decrees have supplanted the law, military stipends have supplanted social rights, conflict has supplanted dialogue and loyalty has supplanted merit.

This order is an order that clashes with the founding principles of the republic such as secularism and democracy, the motto of “Peace at Home, Peace in the World” and basic citizenship rights.

This order seeks to sacrifice democracy, justice, secularism, peace, and fraternity to a one-man government.

In this atmosphere, it’s becoming more and more difficult to defend the rights of the working class. In a place where one person is judge, jury, and executioner, no one’s rights are safe.

But we are stronger than this order. We are the multitude that objects to this order, expresses worry about its future and yearns for democracy, peace, and justice.

It is time for us, the working class, to raise our voice. It’s time for labor to lend its strength to the quest for democracy.
