yow! Here's the Official in-depth look at all the turtles by Nickelodeon themselves.
more descriptions below ;
Leo
Leo is your classic oldest sibling. He’s a little bit bossy, but he firmly believes he has everyone’s best interest at heart! As the oldest, Leo considers himself the leader of the brothers. He loves his family more than anything, and is willing to go to great lengths to protect them. Leo is deeply devoted to Splinter’s teachings, and encourages his brothers to follow all of Splinter’s rules to a T. Leo can be a bit more serious than the rest of his brothers, which sometimes (believe it or not) annoys Raph, Mikey and Donnie. But at the end of the day, he loves to joke around with the crew too - especially if they don’t break any rules in the process!
When Leo meets April O’Neil, things change in a big way. Before meeting April, Leo was content to live in the shadows and stick to the rules that Splinter laid out for him and his brothers, the most important being avoiding humans at all costs. But after meeting April, Leo is willing to bend those rules - especially if it means spending more time with her.
FAST FACTS ABOUT LEO:
Leo (aka Leonardo) is the oldest of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Leo is played by Nicolas Cantu in the Mutant Mayhem movie.
Leo in Love? Pssst, can you keep a secret?! Leo has a HUGE crush on April O’Neil, the Turtles’ human friend! April is voiced by Ayo Edebiri.
Namesake: Leonardo Davinci! Davinci was a true Renaissance man, and a highly skilled painter, inventor, sculptor, and more. He’s best known for painting the world-famous Mona Lisa.
Weapon of Choice: Katanas. Leo is a highly skilled swordsman!
Ninja Turtle Color: Blue. Each of the brothers have a different color mask, so it’s a great way to tell them apart if you get confused!
Most Likely To: be the brother making the plan! Leo is great at strategy and always thinking ten steps ahead.
Describe Leo in three words: Disciplined, Hardworking, and Respectful.
Raph
Meet Raph, aka Raphael! He’s always ready for a fight, and ALWAYS ready to lay it all on the line for his brothers. Raph never shies away from his enemies, and is definitely an act first, think later kinda Turtle. He’s a bit of a hot head - you could say he’s always seeing red (and not just because of his red eye mask!) Generally speaking, Raph is one tough turtle - but he’s got a soft spot in his shell for his beloved bros.
Raph may be the best fighter of the bunch. He’s got some serious ninja skills, but doesn’t have a whole lot of stealth going on. Raph is also a true master of the sai… let’s just say you wouldn’t want to find yourself in a fight with this guy.
FAST FACTS ABOUT RAPH:
Raph (aka Raphael) is the second oldest of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Raph is played by Brady Noon in the Mutant Mayhem movie.
Namesake: Raph is named after Raphael, a 16th-century Italian painter. Kinda weird fun fact? The painter Raphael had serious Renaissance era beef with the painter Michaelangelo, who Raph’s brother Mikey is named after!
Weapon of Choice: Sai, or special Ninja weapons that are like swords you wear as gloves! He’s also in general, a very good fighter (with or without his Sai).
Ninja Turtle Color: Red! Each brother has their own color mask.
Most Likely To: Act first, think later! Raph is known to be a little bit of a hot-head, and often dives headfirst into action without making a plan. This, believe it or not, drives Leo NUTS!
Describe Raph in three words: Passionate, Tough, Protective.
Donnie
Donatello, aka Donnie, is your classic middle child. He may be younger than Leo and Raph, but everyone knows he’s got the smarts. Donnie is brilliant with a super-sharp wit, and can be a bit sarcastic. He’s a true asset to the Turtle team, thanks to his ability to always see a few steps ahead of everyone else. Leo may be the man with the plan, but Donnie is the man pointing out the holes in the plan - whether or not his brothers want to hear them.
Donnie's weapon of choice is a bo staff, which he can twirl and bash around with serious skill. He’s got a razor-sharp ability to analyze his opponents and know what their next move might be - something that comes in handy in the heat of a big battle!
When Donnie isn’t helping his brothers save the day, he likes to unwind with the finer things in life: video games, anime, and of course, K-Pop!
FAST FACTS ABOUT DONNIE
Donnie (aka Donatello) is the second youngest of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That makes Leo and Raph his older brothers, and Mikey the youngest.
Don is voiced by Micah Abbey in the Mutant Mayhem movie.
Namesake: Donnie is named after Donatello, a 15th century Italian sculptor best known for his ability to make his sculptures look insanely realistic! Donatello the sculptor is widely regarded as a genius, which fits Donnie well, since he’s sorta the brains of the brotherly operation.
Weapon of Choice: Bo Staff. You do not want to be stuck battling Donnie when he has a staff, hockey stick, giant pencil, or anything else remotely staff shaped.
Ninja Turtle Color: Purple! It compliments his shell, don’t you think?
Most Likely To: Have a favorite K-pop star.
Describe Donatello in three words: Brilliant, Inventive, Awkward.
Mikey
Mikey, aka Michelangelo, is the youngest and by far the funniest of the four brothers (his words, not ours.) Mikey is kinda the wild card of the bunch, and would almost always rather hang out and have a good time than train. He deeply respects Splinter’s teachings and his rules about humans, but Mikey can’t shake the feeling that humans would probably be more accepting of him and his brothers than his father expects.
While Mikey is an absolute legend when it comes to battling with the nunchaku, his true happy place is posting up with a large pizza and a super funny stand-up comedy special, not a ninja brawl. All he really wants to do is make people happy, so if he has to kick some mutant butt with his brothers along the way, so be it!
FAST FACTS ABOUT MIKEY
Mikey (aka Michelangelo) is the youngest brother out of all four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, aka the baby! But don’t tell him we said that.
Mikey is voiced by Shamon Brown Jr. in the Mutant Mayhem movie.
Ninja Turtle Color: Orange! As in, ORANGE you glad Mikey is here to save the day?
Most Likely To: Order a pizza to battle. What? Like he’s not gonna be hungry after fighting off bad guys and protecting life as we know it?
Namesake: Mikey is named after Michelangelo, one of the most famous Renaissance artists of all time! Michelangelo was a sculptor, painter, architect, and poet known best for iconic works of art like the David, the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling, and more.
Weapon of Choice: Nunchaku and a winning sense of humor.
Describe Mikey in Three Words: Ordering. A. Pizza.

Any characters you feel got a big upgrade in the krakoan era? I just finished x men red and Ive really been impressed in Apocalypse aka Revelation’s story all across
So many characters.
Tumblr media
Post-Hickman and Howard and Ewing Apocalypse is a fundamentally different (and more interesting) character than the one who's existed for almost fourty years. It's like pre- and post-Claremont Magneto.
Cypher has become a scheming political twink with a robot arm and a large wife enforcer.
Hope, Goldballs, Elixir, Tempus, and Proteus got a huge glow-up. Not only are they collective messiahs of their people in a power-boosted polycule, but Proteus is now a philosophical club kid with a manageable chronic illness and a therapist rather than a Nosferatu.
Jean is Phoenix again, that's a big shift. Also, the whole Summers polycule Brady Bunch thing really changed the whole Jean/Scott/Logan dynamic.
Mystique is Nightcrawler's dad and Destiny is his mom. Also Mystique is way more powerful now, quasi-omega level.
Moira is now an ex-mutant who's become a genocidal robot.
Kate Pryde is now canonically bi and incredibly violent and traumatized.
Storm is now a Main Character again, and arguably the most powerful mutant in the galaxy.
And so on.

Watching yesterday’s Abbott Elementary as I suddenly realized that one of the women from the city that Janine brings into the school is Tynnyfer from Parks and Rec just as my fiancé realized the other woman is Jan from the 1995 & 1996 Brady Bunch movies (aka “Sure Jan” Jan of 2015 meme fame)

Alright... well I've been called out by the Hair of Hawkins High. Well, not so much called out but he dare to question my story telling abilities. I shall rise to the challenge, Big Boy.
Each week I will tell you all the true story behind the DnD Dungeon Master to beat all DMs.... Me. Little by little that is. Not all at once.
I warn you now... this isn't always a fun story. In fact the tales of my childhood aren't exactly Leave it to Beaver or Brady Bunch material.
Also, who the hell calls their kid Beaver?
Anyway, I will start with the story I have been told time and again.
Danny and Virginia aka dad and mom
See you all in the funny papers. 😈😝

DHMIS Episode 9, and the Nuclear Family
I wrote a video essay script for a class. Tagging @littlemoondarling Here it is:
Visuals, text, [length/minutes]
Loop the DHMIS series opening over and over
Don’t Hug Me, I’m Scared is a tv series based on the viral internet videos of the same name. It is known for its surreal horror, zany humor, and medium blending in a package of a supposed kids show. From puppets to animation to live action. The original YouTube series could be considered a quintessential part secret-kids-media-not-what-it-seems-not-clickbait genre of horror, like Five Nights at Freddy. While I subscribe to the theory -
Game Theory’s DHMIS original series videos thumbnails float across the screen
That the original series was about the corruption of children’s television by executives and advertisers, this new series seems more interested in the characters. It also has more to say about a wide variety of topics. This leads to today’s video: Family.
[ 1.2 min.]
Switch to a frame of the family song from episode 9
Loop to job montage from episode 1
Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared’s world is a broken, nightmarish world where things don’t make sense wrapped up in bold, primary colors. It is through this usage of surrealism, that it points out the hypocrisy of real-life societal systems. Things may not be this way one-to-one, but it sure feels this way. For example, in episode one, Red Guy snags an upper management job and ends up not having to do anything, like picking up trash, because the trash bin does it for him. Or how the Duck doesn’t mesh well with the workplace,
Loop Care Hound song visuals
so he gets sent to the ‘care hound’, fed a song that makes no sense, fed some pills, and when none of that works, gets confronted with this:
Show Care Hound
And gets turned into a happy little office drone. Now get back to work!
[1.2 minutes]
Back to family song
In episode 9, DHMIS applies this level of fantastical lampooning to the concept of the family, or more specifically, the nuclear family. At the start of the episode, our three intrepid heroes try to open a family bag of chips. Then, these two:
Show Todney and Lily
Proceed to interrupt them and claim they can’t have those chips, because they aren’t a family. The protagonists proceed to argue against them, saying that they either fulfill parental roles (even if they can’t agree on who the dad is), that they all live together and share the same lawyer, and Yellow Guy even has a biological dad.
Show Roy
These two don’t like those arguments, and say that a family requires  “a full set”. They proceed to sing a weird little song on what supposedly makes up a family, like having a landline. They song is supposed to spell out FAMILY, but actually it spells out this:
Frame where Duck spells it out
[1.2 minutes]
Go to clips of T&L’s house
Anywoo, the twins take the three to their house to meet their family. Red Guy tries to find his own family, AKA people who are red like him. Duck goes back and sings about he doesn’t want to be in a family (he secretly does). Yellow Guy gets coerced into being the twin’s family mother so they could qualify for a family discount for a tub of chicken. Yellow Guy’s father, Roy shows up to save the day and is implied to eat that broken nuclear family. The gang reunites, and open their family sized pack of chips, only to see that there are only two left.
Intersperse with clips of mentioned plot beats
There are many things to take away about DHMIS episodes, just look at the vibrant theory community surrounding the show. From the way I see it, this episode is about the pitfalls of not only striving for a nuclear family, but also performing as one.
Photos of TV nuclear families
Todney and Lily’s designs call back to an American TV era starting in the 1950s, of shows centered around a traditional nuclear family. Leave it to Beaver, Father Knows Best, The Brady Bunch. Breadwinner husband, stay-at-home wife, 2-3 kids, and a house in the suburbs. According to PBS’s The Rise of American Consumerism, the traditional nuclear family structure had its boom in the 1950s, with the baby boom and post-war economic opportunities. And within that boom came consumerism, AKA the way to do a nuclear family ‘right’. According to the article:
“Consumer spending no longer meant just satisfying an indulgent material desire. In fact, the American consumer was praised as a patriotic citizen in the 1950s, contributing to the ultimate success of the American way of life.”
If you wanted the ‘right’ domestic life, you had to have cars, TV, fridges, toasters, vacuum cleaners, and of course, traditional gender roles.
[3.2 min]
Go back to family song and family rules frames
DHMIS criticizes these arbitrary rules for familihood through this twisted sort of nuclear family and the junk they consider to be quintessential for a family, even disqualifying the actual family members. I mean, it’s the 2020s, how many of you guys have a landline?
Go back to episode climax
The climax, where we learn the family’s nefarious plans, can even be a commentary on how our societal systems reward traditional family structures, while leaving those who aren’t in nuclear households in the dust.
Stock footage of homes
For example, home ownership. According to the Tax Advisor, the number of people cohabiting together is increasing, but because they don’t have an official document stating they’re married, home ownership tax laws become infinitely more complicated. And let’s not get into taxes in general for nontraditional families.
Episode ending footage
You can even take the ending, in which a family sized pack of chips only yields two, to be a commentary on the rising costs of living and supporting a family, even when it is nuclear. According to CNN, the average cost of a middle-income household to raise a child to age 17 has soared to over 300000 dollars thanks to inflation. Given the current economic situation, we’ll probably see more households with nontraditional living structures will probably increase as time goes on.
DHMIS opening footage
So what does DHMIS say about this? Well, it’s quite simple. You shouldn’t need to kidnap people or give your blood to a tree to be a family. Sometimes, all it is, are three people who care for each other, stick together, and share a lawyer.

When Jayne Mansfield Met Alice the Brady Bunch’s Housekeeper! Let me put this forgotten fringe-of-show biz encounter in context. From Jayne Mansfield: The Girl Couldn’t Help It (2021) by Eve Golden:
“In May 1964 Jayne signed (at $4,000 a week) to bring two of Marilyn Monroe’s movie roles to the stage: the pathetic nightclub singer Cherie in Bus Stop (first played onstage by Kim Stanley in 1955) and wide-eyed gold digger Lorelei Lee in the 1949 musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (originated on Broadway by Carol Channing). Bus Stop, written by William Inge, required heavy-duty acting and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes required heavy-duty singing (“A Little Girl from Little Rock” and the anthem “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” among other songs – most of which were cut from the 1953 movie version). Jayne needed a good director; her acting ranged from brilliant to amateurish depending on the script and director she was handed. Bus Stop and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes had good scripts, so she set about interviewing potential directors. Finding a seasoned professional who was willing to do summer stock might not be easy. Jayne was lucky, finding twenty-eight-year-old New Yorker Matt Cimber in her first round of interviews.”
At the time, Mansfield was still married to Mickey Hargitay. Cimber would soon become Mansfield’s third and final husband. Her leading man (playing the part of Bo Decker) was Stephen Brooks. Hargitay was cast in a smaller role as the bus driver. Also in the cast: Ann B Davis (aka Alice the housekeeper from TV sitcom The Brady Bunch). “Jayne was not as advertised,” Davis would rage years later. “She was huge drunk. Bipolar. Unprofessional. And any claims that she was a genius - ha! She was about as bright as a chalkboard. Dumb as sin! She was not educated by any definition. She was a blowzy alcoholic. She could barely read lines and was awful to the rest of the cast and crew.” In case anyone missed the point, Davis continued, “She was vulgar, obscene and pathetic … that girl was a dark monster!” While touring Bus Stop, Mansfield told a reporter, “Right now we’re trying to arrange a 15-week tour with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” The mind reels imagining Mansfield interpreting Tennessee Williams’ “Maggie the Cat”!

JayRae Pregnancy Fanfic - Chapter 2
General Summary: Life was finally at a good place for Raven. She and her longtime boyfriend, Jason Todd aka Red Hood, had created a comfortable routine and were both happy with their relationship. However, Raven has unexpectedly become pregnant and it feels like the world has decided to empty a dump truck of problems onto her head.
~*~
To view the previous chapter please follow the link below:
~*~
(Author’s Note: This fanfic draws a lot of inspiration from BluBooThalassophile’s Hopes For A Bastard Universe, Xaphrin, and other JayRae fanfics. In this fanfic, I have altered a lot of Jason’s storyline after the “Under The Red Hood” story arc. Also, Trigon’s sealed state does not allow for him to initiate contact with Raven or anyone outside of his gem prison. And, finally, in this fanfic Raven is a bit more expressive in this story. This is because she is no longer a teenager who is still getting a handle on her abilities and emotions or affected by teenage hormones plus Trigon has been sealed for about a decade now.)
~*~
Chapter 2
“You know he prefers being called my former mentor,” was her immediate response. Even though she silently agreed with his label of her and John Constantine’s relationship.
“True. But he would probably prefer being called your surrogate father over my personal preference of Magic Dude.” Jason stated this fact with a smart-ass grin on his face. Keeping her face blank, Raven didn’t reply to this comment as she knew he was correct on this matter. Best not to feed his asshole tendencies.
Still standing on the opposite side of the kitchen island from Jason. She put her hands on her yoga clad hips and blandly asked, “Couch or reading nook?”
“Couch.” Jason replied as he straightened up from his bent position. Ace, who had been sitting attentively next to Jason got up on all four paws. Ready to follow his person with casual alertness.
Raven deduced that Jason was in the mood to talk because when he went with her to the reading nook they usually just read or worked silently.
Raven walked around the kitchen island and towards the doorway of the TV room where the comfy black leather couch was located. As she walked past Jason, he fell into step beside her and gently put an arm around her waist as they walked towards their destination.
Looking back she checked that Ace was following them.
As the three of them approached the couch, Raven confessed to Jason. “Personally, I would have much preferred to have John Constantine as my father to Trigon,” she stated softly as she sat down on the couch. “Even if he tends to be an asshole.”
“Yeah… I can understand that.” Jason said this as he also sat down on the couch next to her. A complicated expression crossed Jason’s face. A mix of hurt, frustration, longing, and love came at Raven from Jason.
As they situated themselves on the couch, Ace sat down in his dog bed nearby. Raven curled into Jason’s warmth and tucked herself under his muscled arm. She pondered Jason’s situation and her own.
Raven thought that he must be considering his own paternal figures based on the emotions coming off of him.
While not quite the dumpster fire that was her family, his was by no means the Brady Bunch. He not only had the Bat Family, which was led by a man who didn’t do emotions well- to put it nicely. But, also a deceased biological father who was a criminal that had died while in prison. Which left Jason on the streets where he only ate when he stole. That didn’t even touch the emotional bombshell that was his maternal figures.
As far as fathers went, Trigon the Terrible lived up to his title. Trigon was not just a demon, which is bad enough as far as the parental lottery goes. He was also a conqueror of worlds and ruler of his own extra dimensional Hell. And while John Constantine was not amongst the best examples of humanity. (The man was a con artist, occult detective, chain smoker, magical grump, former punk musician, and a perpetual asshole.) In terms of possible parental figures in Raven’s life, at least he would have been a more positive influence on her life than Trigon.
“Hey, you never answered my question.” Jason said as he looked down at her.
“Which one?”
Jason let out a snort and then asked. “Have you seen Constantine lately?”
“Ah. That one,” Raven dryly answered. “Let me think…”
After crossing her arms and resting her head back onto his shoulder, she calmly stated, “Hmm. I don’t know. … he could either be on a really bad bender or a bad case. With him either option is likely.” Raven then went on to mutter, “ … I just hope he isn’t back together with Zatana.”
“Why-oh yeah… bad history.”
John Constantine had entered her life nearly six years ago. She had been around 20 years old at the time. While still with the Teen Titans, she and everyone else on the team had started pursuing their own interests. By that time, Nightwing and Cyborg had left the team entirely. Starfire had taken over the team as more of a mentorship program and Beast Boy (now Changling) was assisting her with that role.
Feeling rudderless, she fell deeper into her passion for learning magic and reading books. When she went to Constantine, initially, she came seeking information about demonic magic and the magic of this world. By that time, she felt that she had learned as much as she could from the books that she could gain access to. Previous interactions with the light magical community had taught her not to seek out people like Zatana and Doctor Fate. They would never help her in any way much less educate her. They made it a point to actively discriminate against her due entirely to her heritage and not her actions.
Knowing of John Constantine by reputation, she felt he was a good candidate to learn from. However, after her initial meeting with the man ended with her being roped into Constantine’s latest disaster. Somehow, by the time the disaster was averted, she ended up making a deal with the man. She would learn from him as his apprentice and, in return, assisted him with his latest investigations for 4 years. By the end of the third year of knowing the man, she had become an unofficial member of the Justice League Dark and moved into the House of Mystery. At that point, they had gotten somewhat close and developed a more familial bond. Although, she suspected that John saw himself more as her uncle than any parental figure.
Interrupting her thoughts, Jason said, “Hey. Leave the brooding to the Bats. They’ve-er we’ve got it down to a science.”
Leaning over. He planted a soft kiss on her furrowed forehead. His scent of leather, sandalwood, and cigarettes filled her nose.
“Hey, why are you asking about Constantine?” Raven inquired.
His previously annoyed mood was mostly forgotten at this point. Now, a wave of determination and a sliver of his ever ready anger came off of Jason.
His face hardened as he leaned back on the couch and stared off into space.“Actually, I need to talk with him about a project I’m working on.” Jason stated.
“Oh? Which one?”
“The one dealing with confiscated items in Gotham’s prisons being sold at underground auctions.”

sorry but every time you talk about the Brooklyn Bunch my brain plays the Brady Bunch theme
-🦡 (badger anon)
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
One of them definitely tried to make that their ‘theme song’ but Vince insists “How Bad Can I Be” from The Lorax is funnier.
My friend and I have multiple jokes about the Brooklyn Bunch’s theme song. AKA “Imagine being beat up by the Brooklyn Bunch while *blank* plays”
So far we’ve had:
Classical music. (Any kind but particularly Waltz of the Flowers)
How Bad Can I Be from The Lorax
A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton (Inspired by that one scene from the TV show Wayne)
And now The Brady Bunch theme.

The Bradshaw bunch
(Gif order: Maisie, Sienna, Miles, Rhys (Reece), Caroline/Carole, and Nicholas)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aricka and Bradley had only intended on having two children. Maisie and Sienna.
They didn’t expect having three sets of twins, two girls, two boys and a pair of each.
But they wouldn’t trade their little family for anything in the world. Their very own little Bradshaw bunch.
~~~~~~~
Maisie Nicole and Sienna Teegan. Born on a hot summer afternoon in 2009, several years after their parents were married, these two were thick as thieves but also different as day and night.
Maisie-or Maisie-Moo or MayMay- was laid back, quiet like her dad tended to be. She preferred reading books to skateboarding and she loved sitting with her dad at the piano learning to play. The first song she was able to play after learning basic lullabies was “Baby Mine,” from Disney’s Dumbo. She had a laugh as captivating as her Gran’pa Nick and a perfectionist streak she inherited from her uncle Tom. She seems to be an innocent child but don’t let your guard down if she’s with her twin- if left alone these two could definitely take over the world. Like her parents: Maisie seemed to be born with the need to fly, and as soon as she turned 18 she was asking how to apply to become a naval aviator just like her parents.
Sienna, on the other hand, was the wild child. Rambunctious like her own mother as a child, Sienna- or CiCi to her family-always climbing trees and skateboarding around before she turned eight, constantly skinning her knees or elbows and would inevitably be the first to land in the ER with a broken bone. She had a mischievous streak that rivaled her Papa Mav’s, but a heart of gold like her parents. She was as fiery and fierce as her mane of red hair, a recessive gene from her mom’s side of the family, and loyal to anyone she called family or friend. Just like her twin Sienna was born to fly, and coincidentally; the twins were assigned to each other as a pilot-RIO duo, just like their mom and uncle Jemmy. (Jeremy)
Then came the twin boys- Miles and Rhys, pronounced Reece. Born one of of the coldest nights in 2012. M&M and Reece’s, to their family, these two were chaos in human form, only reined in by their favorite person in the world- their mother.
Miles, aka Mylo, was the take-charge boy. He wasn’t introverted or extroverted, but rather he was a mix of the two. He could be a social butterfly for hours at a time and then all of a sudden he would vanish into the quiet of whatever space he could find. He took to coding and computers like a fish to water, and made the middle school robotics team his sixth grade year. He was extremely gifted in the science department, which was good and also bad because then him and his brother took that ability and made things explode.
Rhys- aka Rhysie-Bear- was the crowd following, people pleasing child. He was always trailing after his mother; watching her care for the other children and learning how to make people feel better with just a few words and a smile. He loved art, especially painting, and flourished in that department with the right amount of teaching and the proper tools. But left alone with his brother, Rhys could be quiet the ornery little boy, and would become a very loud and hyper child.
For several years they were a family of six, existing in a happy bubble of domestic bliss and crazy school escapades.
And then the surprise babies were born, on a beautiful spring morning in 2015.
Aricka and Bradley knew what they were going to name these two long before they were even a thought; having decided it not long after they had given birth to their first four rugrats.
Caroline Lily- their sweet little Carrie-bug- was born first. She was a bright eyed; curious little thing from the moment she opened her eyes: constantly looking around and exploring everything she could touch or see. She took after Bradley with light blonde hair that darkened gradually as she got older, and by the time she was 12 her hair was a gorgeous shade of copper-brown. Caroline was named after Bradley’s mom, who promptly burst into tears when she found out her surprise grand-baby’s name. Bradley could often be found humming, “Sweet Caroline,” to his newest baby often even after she was past the toddler stage, and it would end up being the song they would dance to when Caroline someday got married. Carrie loved swimming: and she loved any type of marine life, so she pursued marine biology as soon as she was old enough.
Nicholas James- Nicky- was the quietest, best baby of the Bradshaw bunch. He stuck to every schedule, hit every milestone right on time, and was way ahead of his peers in his grade. He inherited his dad’s unruly curls and-as he got older- his dad’s performance streak. He loved being onstage, felt called to the stage the moment he first auditioned to be Charlie Bucket in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” He worked tirelessly all through high school and applied to various acting colleges, and once he turned 18, he got several acceptances, including one from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, aka AMDA.
But that’s jumping just a bit too far into their story, isn’t it?
When they couldn’t be with their parents, the six Bradshaw kiddos- the Bradshaw bunch- would spend their time split between their grandparents and their great-aunt Ricki and uncle Tom’s houses.
The kids had several older cousins- by blood or by choice- who they adored and looked forward to seeing every chance they got. Like their cousins Lydia, Brynlee, Miriam and Casper, their uncle Jemmy’s kids.
And once the Dagger Squad had been made an official unit, they gained even more family. Because at the end of the day, family was the lord important thing.
Once again we have half a dozen plots that fit perfectly together and one that has nothing to do with anything, so once again we'll get that one out of the way first.
Xander and Chloe are still living together and Xander still has super-regressive gender-based ideas of what their roles should be. He does offer her a job at the newspaper (where she can really put her skills as an opera singer to work, presumably), which she accepts.
This screencap is not entirely flattering to either of them, but you could always stream the show yourself if you really wanted to. (Or, as many characters on the show actually say, *Peacock and chill.* No, seriously.)
Tumblr media
Back in Greece, everyone's packing up to head back to Salem so this can stop feeling like two entirely different shows. Harris, still trusted by absolutely no one because of the whole "brainwashed to murder a whole bunch of people" thing, comes to Sad Eyes Shawn with the news that Megan and Dimitri have secured their release from prison. So maybe they could, you know, move Bo (and Hope) someplace extremely off-camera since their guest spots clearly wrapped weeks ago and we don't want to give the audience Bo Brady Blue Balls.
But Shawn doesn't trust Harris because... see my previous. Then he remembers that *oh right, I shot my actual dad* and comes around.
Tumblr media
We pick up where we left off yesterday with Megan taunting Kate and Roman at the pub.
Tumblr media
And Megan drops a weird hint into a conversation when she calls Roman "Chris."
Having recently watched the Beyond Salem miniseries, we (Amanda, actually) realized that Chris is the name of some apparently unrelated incidental character who owned a gym and was played by the guy who plays Roman. We thought the casting thing was a little weird, but not extremely weird for this show. For instance, in this very mini-series, Kristen was played by the performer who played her in the 90s, not the one we see on the show every day. And that same performer also reprised two other characters she used to play. That's just how they roll inside this hourglass.
But now maybe there was a connection between Roman and Gym Manager Chris after all? I suppose we'll find out soon enough!
This is maybe not the most tantalizing plot morsel Days has ever delivered, but trust me: we have an embarrassment of riches ahead of us on that front.
Dimitri visits Chad, reminding him (and us, the audience) that Chad is his uncle and pretty much just spends 10 minutes of screen time making Chad deeply uncomfortable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Amanda was certain Dimitri was coming on to his uncle, but that's what an entire lack of boys kissing will do to a person, I guess.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Regardless, it was really fun to watch, because Chad's sweet spot is genuinely *I am extremely out of my comfort zone right now.* (See also: Chad's appearance in the aforementioned Beyond Salem, where he ended up performing in a drag show as Belinda Chinashop. And then absolutely loving the entire experience.)
Tumblr media
Kristen slinks around in her Catwoman outfit, assuring Marlena, and then Brady, that she's legitimately out of prison. She even brought the papers with her in case nobody believed her, which is a bizarre and completely Kristen thing to do. She also swears that she will not be kept apart from her daughter, but this is nothing we haven't seen before. The new part is the Catwoman suit. Which is still fantastic.
Tumblr media
Then Megan returns home to Maniac Mansion (aka where the DiMeras live) and gives us possibly the greatest sequence I've seen on this show to date. (See my next post for that.)
The holiday, first called Decoration Day, started after the Civil War in America, and was observed to honor the memory of the Union and Confederate soldiers who had died during the conflict. It wasn’t until the 20th century that Memorial Day observances were extended to honor all service members serving in all wars.
History books have always said the first observances of Decoration Day started during and after the Civil War. And a number of cities lay claim to having the first observance, from Warrenton, Virginia, on June 3, 1861, when a wreath was laid at a Civil War soldier’s grave, to a well documented story of the ladies of Savannah, Georgia putting flowers on Confederate grave in 1862.
Interestingly, almost all our history texts credit the founding of Memorial Day to one man, a white former Union Army Major General, John A. Logan, who in 1868 called for a Decoration Day to be observed annually and nationwide.
The Decoration Day history forgot – “The Martyrs of the Racecourse” The wars we have today seem very far away, always in someone else’s country. We are not aware of the scale of death and destruction that war brings in its wake. For us, war is a video on the television screen. But in Charleston, South Carolina in April of 1865, the ruins of the long conflict were evident everywhere.
The port city of Charleston is where the Civil War started in April, 1861, but by the spring of 1865, the city was nearly deserted of its white population. The first Union troops to enter the city and march up Meeting Street were the Twenty-First U. S. Colored Infantry, and it was their commander who accepted the formal surrender of Charleston that day.
Tumblr media
Meeting street and Queen, at the end of the Civil War. This is the very street in Charleston, the Twenty First U.S. Colored Infantry came marching down in the spring of 1865.
George N. Barnard (1819 – 1902)
While the city may have been deserted by most of the white folks, there were over 10,000 freed slaves who gathered to greet the Union Army. The story goes that these freedmen and women dug up a mass grave containing the bodies of 257 dead Union soldiers, only to rebury them on May 1, 1865 in a cleaned up and landscaped burial ground.
They built an archway with a placard that said “Martyrs of the Race-Course,” and buried the bodies with a ritualized remembrance celebration, attended by thousands of people, white and black. The ceremony was covered by the New York Tribune and other national newspapers of that day.
Who were these freed slaves of Charleston, S.C.? Who were these freed slaves? Why would they take the trouble to honor a bunch of white soldiers? Let’s go back to the early colonial period in Charleston, when fully one-quarter of the all the slaves brought into this country came through the city. As the official end to the slave trade was coming on, more than 90,000 slaves were brought into Charleston between 1801 and the official end of the American slave trade in 1808.
For those people who have visited Charleston and Myrtle Beach, you will know something of the Low Country, its cuisine and the dialect spoken by many of the residents. In colonial times, the area of South Carolina along the coast, including the Sea Islands was known for its rice and indigo production, as well as its Sea Island cotton.
The Low Country was all the land from the fall line to the sea shore, a region of marshes, with cypress trees draped in moss, stagnant water full of mosquitoes and other diseases. Today, visitors can look in on restored plantations with wooden walkways that take in the swamps and you might even see a few alligators.
But in colonial times and on up to the start of the Civil War, Low Country crops were tended by African slaves, and not just any African slave would do. They were the Gullah people from the rice-growing regions of West Africa and the Congo-Angola region of Central Africa. Plantation owners prized these slaves because of their knowledge in rice-growing, a very lucrative crop that made millions of dollars for the white owners.
The Gullah people remained at the plantations during the hot and humid summer rice-growing months when white owners took their families inland to cooler areas to avoid malaria, yellow fever, and cholera, so rampant at that time of year. A few white overseers and a few trusted black men were left in charge. Because of the isolation of the huge plantations, the Gullah developed their own language, a unique blend of African and English, as well as a religion that also blended African ritual with Christian beliefs.
Tumblr media
Dan Welch, Education Programs Coordinator for the Gettysburg Foundation, delivers his winter lecture, “Martyrs of the Race Course – The Forgotten Decoration Day.”
But that was not all the Gullah people gave to this fledgling country. Besides a unique cultural tradition, they also created their own Low Country cuisine that visitors discover and come to love today. But more importantly, their culture, rituals and traditions, especially the way they honored their ancestors and those who had died in battle were passed on to the next generations.
The first Decoration Day arrives It was the Gullah people that showed the most resistance to being enslaved, and who most enthusiastically embraced freedom when it was given to them. David W. Blight is a professor of American history at Yale University. He described the race track where the burial and honoring of the Union soldiers took place in 1865.
He tells the story like this; during the final year of the Civil War, the Confederates had converted the planters’ horse track, the Washington Race Course and Jockey Club, into an outdoor prison. Like Andersonville, the conditions at the prison were horrific, and about 257 Union prisoners died of disease and exposure. The bodies were thrown in a mass grave behind the grandstand.
Tumblr media
The grandstand for the Washington Race Track were designed by Charles F. Reichardt in the 1830s. Union soldiers who died in the prison camp were thrown into a mass grave behind the grandstand.
Library of Congress
At the end of the war, some 28 black workmen went to the site of the mass grave, dug up the bodies, reburying the dead properly. A high whitewashed fence was built around the cemetery, and the archway was constructed over the entrance with the words “Martyrs of the Race Course.”
Here is what Professor Blight says happened on May 1, 1865: Then, black Charlestonians in cooperation with white missionaries and teachers, staged an unforgettable parade of 10,000 people on the slaveholders’ race course. The symbolic power of the low-country planter aristocracy’s horse track (where they had displayed their wealth, leisure, and influence) was not lost on the freedpeople. A New York Tribune correspondent witnessed the event, describing “a procession of friends and mourners as South Carolina and the United States never saw before.”
For over 50 some odd years, white Charlestonians tried to suppress the memory of that first Decoration Day, but the memory has been rediscovered and has a certain amount of profound meaning, if not the fact that it has been brought back into its historical context. The race track is still there, although in the 1880s the Union soldier’s bodies were moved to Beaufort National Cemetery, and remain there today.
A few years ago, the city of Charleston and the state government authorized plans for a historical marker in Hampton Park to honor the first Dedication Day. Harlan Greene, director of archival and reference services at Avery, said the time is right; “Charleston has begun to recognize its African-American history.”
“We’re approaching a tipping point,” Greene said. “The irony of the story is that Charleston is the cradle of the Confederacy, but the memorial was for Union soldiers. It shows the richness of Charleston history.”
The Masked Singer: S8 E3 Running Commentary
After a week’s hiatus due to Hurricane Ian (which, thankfully, my dad and I managed to get through in one piece), I’m back to give my thoughts on who might be under the masks.
I did read up on who was eliminated last week: Pi-Rat 🏴‍☠️ 🐀 turned out to be Jeff Dunham, who I have put forward in past seasons as a potential guess. Panther 🐆 was Montell Jordan, and as I had guessed once piecing together the clues, Hummingbird was indeed Chris Kirkpatrick (which makes him the second member of N Sync to appear on the show after Joey Fatone was on Season 1 as the Rabbit 🐰).
Will Harp 🎶 be unmasked tonight, or will she continue to be the Queen of Masked Singer? (One of tonight’s Masks is a trio, BTW. If they’re any good, they could potentially dethrone her. Possibly Boyz II Men? I don’t know!) The surviving Mask at the end of tonight’s show will advance to the Semifinals, and presumably a few new masks will be introduced next week.
As always, I post before I see any unmaskings, so these are not to be taken as spoilers!
Mummies 💀: Blueprint, may have been child stars, S2’s Fox 🦊 (aka Wayne Brady) was shown in a picture. Could possibly have worked with Wayne or appeared on a Fox show. Seen on the cover of a magazine called Tiger Pop (a parody of the teen magazine Tiger Beat), which would indicate they may have been teen idols when they were younger. TV screen with two movie tickets. Possibly have also been in a movie? They’re not The Monkees (only Mickey Dolenz is still alive). They do sound a little on the older side, so they may have been famous in the 1970s or 1980s. I think the blueprint clue may be tying these clues together for me. Also, their intro package was in the style of the opening title card from Gilligan’s Island. So…the blueprint is something you usually associate with an architect. Now, the Fox isn’t necessarily a clue to who they worked with, but a reference to the characters they played. The TV screen with two movie tickets refers to them being on a TV series that was adapted into two major studio movies. I think these are the guys who played Greg, Peter, and Bobby Brady on The Brady Bunch: Barry Williams, Christopher Knight, and Mike Lookinland (respectively). (The architect clue refers to their dad’s occupation on the show. Mike Brady, played by the late Robert Reed, was an architect.) Barry Williams still sings professionally (he’s done shows in Branson, Missouri), and they sounded surprisingly good. Not good enough to be Kings of Masked Singer, though. I expect them to be unmasked tonight.
Fortune Teller 🔮: Saw a row of brownstone houses, grew up in Queens, NY. Has tried being a singer and a dancer, to not much success. May have had a rivalry with Jermaine Dupri. His mother helped him break into the industry. Game wheel stopped on “Jackpot”. Angel in a briefcase. May have some connection to the Kardashian family. Possibly one of Kim’s ex-husbands? (She has three: Damon Thomas, basketball player Kris Humphries, and Kanye West.) Or he could be Kris Jenner’s boyfriend Corey Gamble. But I don’t think it’s either of them. Kris Humphries is from Minnesota, while Corey Gamble is from Georgia. It could be Kourtney Kardashian’s ex Scott Disick, but he’s not from Queens, he’s from Long Island. Khloe Kardashian’s ex husband Lamar Odom is from Queens, but Fortune Teller seems too short and it doesn’t really sound like how I’d expect Lamar to sound when singing. The best guess is probably Kim’s friend Jonathan Cheban, but he grew up in New Jersey, not Queens.
Harp 🎶: Next clue was a Christmas cupcake. Her voice and the previous clues have me convinced that this is Amber Riley. And I won’t be surprised if she wins this round. I’ve watched enough Glee to remember what she sounds like.
New to the 101 Films x AGFArepresents an overlooked early entry in the canon of queer cinema, and an ultra-violent slasher from Toronto that tackles the toxicity of early 90s society.
SOMETIMES AUNT MARTHA DOES DREADFUL THINGS (1971) Dropping somewhere between PINK FLAMINGOS, BLOOD FEAST, and an episode of THE BRADY BUNCH on acid, SOMETIMES AUNT MARTHA DOES DREADFUL THINGS is a histrionic psychodrama that could only have originated in the alternate dimension known as Florida. After robbing a bank in Baltimore, cross-dressing Paul (aka Aunt Martha) and his partner Stanley hide out in a Florida town. But it’s only a matter of time before Paul’s paranoia forces him to embark on a demented killing spree. WICKED WORLD (1991) Total horror anarchy from the makers of THINGS! In 1989, filmmaker Barry J. Gillis and friends renewed the world’s faith in Canada with the horror brainbomb known as THINGS. But that was only the beginning. Virtually unseen until now, WICKED WORLD is not only Gillis’ 1991 follow-up to THINGS — it’s also a new form of genre anarchy. Grant Ekland (Gillis) is a cop who is haunted by the death of his girlfriend at the hands of a psychotic slasher named Harold. When Harold is released from an asylum, there’s only one option for Ekland: revenge! Filled with metal riffage, gnarly ultra-violence, and experimental techniques, WICKED WORLD feels like what would happen if Salvador Dali injected acid directly into his brain while staring at a Cannibal Corpse LP cover. This is a highly personal treatise on the toxicity of society from one of the most singular filmmakers in trash-horror history. If you survive WICKED WORLD, you’ll never forget it.
