The problem with the first songs of akuno-p and their meaning
Akuno has been producing songs for a long time, since 2008. If you review the history of the unfolding of the evillious chronicles, you understand that its author hasn't had a clear plot in mind since the beginning, instead, he would choose to unfold the story layer after layer, adding more to the fictional world as time would pass, while trying to "desperately" make his oldest songs "fit in" his narrative, as part of the main story.
One of the consequences of this fact is that the first songs in akuno's repertoire have lyrics and messages that are not easily linkable to a particular event of the story or they have a meaning and place in the story that was later changed, therefore there's now a situation in which we have an "old meaning" and a "current meaning" of those songs.
Sometimes, the situation is a mix of those two scenarios, making it much more challenging to figure out what those songs refer to in the main story.
"Re_birthday" (2008) is one of those songs: I've discussed in another post how initially that was probably supposed to talk about Allen's time in jail before his execution, disguised as Riliane (due to the big amount of references to that song in chapter four of the novel "cloture of yellow") and how his imprisonment was the "natural flow of destiny/karma" (as the series goes with its mechanistic conception of destiny) resulting from his actions.
Also, the red and blue chains were probably supposed to represent Germaine and Kyle, the ones who ultimately bound Allen to his "fate" of capital punishment.
Adding to that, the lines:
One day I realized The true meaning of that song
And I added on new words To the lullaby
may probably refer to the fact he managed to cause an "irregularity" in Elluka's prophecy, as we can read in "cloture of yellow", managing to replace Riliane in her "fated" execution.
The song eventually ends with the lines:
I’ll go to see you very soon
referencing how Allen proposes to meet with Riliane again, through reincarnation, as we know from the other series' installments.
Now...on the other hand, that is surely not what the song means today, for its interpretation has to be searched out in the context of "master of the heavenly yard", and that is not just my own speculation: akuno says so in the afterword of the "master of the heavenly yard" album.
This current song, “master of the heavenly yard”, is meant to be the last chapter of the series.
[...]
The subtitle for this song is “re_birthday truth”.
The circumstances that are abstractly depicted in “re_birthday”’s lyrics are elaborated on here.
(Or perhaps you could treat it as an alternate interpretation of re_birthday)
Though the original song is quite old, and so the way it’s set up has changed a lot from back then. ("master of the heavenly yard" album).
Another difficult song is "madam merry go round" (2010), originally supposed to be about Alice and the content of Gammon's dream regarding the future of "doll director", albeit not sure of its truthfulness.
The gardener testifies that this is “one of the possible futures of the doll director”, though the credibility of this is doubtful. ("evils' court" album booklet).
Now, "madam merry go round" is not simply "Alice/Irina/doll director", as we knew, but she's a legion of all the queens of the Levianta country in the series.
Connected to it is the song "red shoe parade" (2010) as "madam merry go round" shares some lyrics with it.
The shining shadow parade, their eyes on the end, will keep on through thick and thin ("madam merry go round" song).
Now advance on! A shadow parade
wearing matching red shoes,
madly dancing as though broken,
aim for the end, through thick and thin ("red shoe parade" song).
What can that mean? I think that initially "red shoe parade" used to be a general theme found in "cloture of yellow" to "prealudium of red" (ask me for more about that).
On the other hand, the song's connection to "madam merry go round" can suggest that there is something more to it.
If you think about it, in the "punishment" novel, the "madam"'s dimension was accessed by the characters that the series calls "castaways of time" (characters that become immortal for whatever reason, long story short) and specifically three of four (as four are the participants of the parade in the song's pv) specific characters that are responsible for bringing a certain ending in the series (Eve Moonlit, Irina Clockworker, Gammon Octo), the three that wanted to erase contractors for "justice", in the "master of the heavenly yard" novel.
Does it sound familiar?
Other problematic songs are "wordplay" and "clockwork lullaby" (2008). I usually list them together because they're one sequel of the other.
Why do I say so? Well, the song "clockwork lullaby" starts exactly when the song "wordplay" ends.
I will be here no matter what
teach me words as always (end of "wordplay" song).
Teach me words as always
and I will change them into a song (beginning of "clockwork lullaby" song).
Now the major trouble with those is trying to understand the character that "sings" it and what the songs refer to in the series.
Let me tell you one thing: the vocaloid can mislead you. The fact that Rin Kagamine is used there doesn't mean that the singer is a rin-coded character (and that's because originally akuno only used Rin and Len as vocaloids and he didn't have a clear idea about the plot).
Originally the songs were supposed to have a "real-world setting", for example in the pv of the song "wordplay" we have mentions of Tokyo, which doesn't exist in the "third period".
In the early dawn today, tokyo/you can’t trust anyone/extortion/inhuman/aside from me they had vanished/destruction/there are enemies here/terrorism/world conquest/dictatorship
This has led some people into thinking that the song was about a "second-period" character, specifically Levia and Seth I see the most. (not sure if that's because of the Tokyo reference).
Considering how the "second period" and anything associated with it wasn't a thing in the series until late in the game. I really doubt akuno would make a song about Levia or Seth this early (when he didn't even conceive them or their story).
I do think that akuno had some plot in mind when he wrote those songs in 2008, though, as he wrote those two songs and later coupled them up with "miniature garden girl", making immediately clear that those three were connected (as that song has always been subtitled as "clockwork lullaby 2", by the way).
That was a major clue that the three songs were about the "miniature garden girl".
Anyway, as the series went on, in 2018 akuno wrote additional lyrics to "clockwork lullaby" to fit it better into the main series, and there we have a confirmation on the singer; in fact, among the other lyrics we have:
in the end, I of the miniature garden
wasn’t anyone ("clockwork lullaby" song).
I think it can't be clearer, at least on that front.
Another problematic song is "full moon laboratory".
I'm not entirely sure what that song's meaning was originally.
What I do know is that the song is really similar in tune to "the song I heard somewhere", sharing similar lyrics and themes to the same and its alternative english title from the album "evils extra" (2019) is "loneliness in laboratory", corresponding to the frame that appears in the new 2020 pv of "the song I heard somewhere" song,
Tumblr media
There is more though.
"Full moon laboratory" shares a common sentence with the "wordplay" song (and akuno also once mentioned that "full moon laboratory" can be an alternative sequel to the song "wordplay", instead of "clockwork lullaby*):
Because I’ll be here no matter what, right? ("full moon laboratory" song)
I will be here no matter what ("wordplay" song).
That can heavily imply that the two songs have the same singer.
If "full moon laboratory" is sung by Irina (or Alice, depending on her backstory) because of the shared themes, rhythm, and lyrics as "the song I heard somewhere", then "wordplay" is also sung by Irina.
But...I've said right previously how the latter song has the miniature garden girl as the singer because of the connection with its sequel "clockwork lullaby".
How can we solve this?
Well...Irina and the "miniature garden girl" (aka "Michelle" after Gallerian's daughter died) are names of the same entity in different periods of time in the series.
This all leads to the fact that the songs "wordplay", "clockwork lullaby", "the song I heard somewhere" and "full moon laboratory" are narrated by the same character: Irina/"doll director".
This can be also proven looking at the clockwork lullabies gear chart and Irina's role in the "clockwork lullaby" album.
And you...what do you want to know about? Are you interested in one of the songs?

The water crisis in Jackson, Mississippi, is the latest in an arc of environmental catastrophes affecting predominantly Black communities from Flint, Michigan, to New Orleans. Often, these disasters are preceded by decades if not centuries of segregation and government neglect. Once a water crisis begins, it rapidly spirals into a comprehensive disaster with ripple effects on a community’s economy, education, and more. As of Sept. 15, Gov. Tate Reeves of Mississippi has declared Jackson’s water safe to drink, but a long battle to properly resource the city’s recovery remains ahead. Vangela Wade of Mississippi Center for Justice joins The Marc Steiner Show to discuss the struggle on the ground, and Jackson’s place in a larger pattern of environmental catastrophes linked to systemic racism.

New album from mothy to be released at Comiket on August 13! Based on the fact that the twin rabbits here are likely Arte & Pollo, its probably safe to assume this is continuing the plotline of E.A.T PROLOGUE. I don't trust myself enough to translate the name of the album (and by extension the first song), but it's something about twin rabbits playing a flute (or another similar woodwind instrument). Second tweet poorly embedded up there is a promo video for the album, presumably featuring the instrumental for one of the songs--the text in the promotional image on the left mentions a "Demon's Flute", and the text in the video mentions that the twins disappear.
There are six songs on the album (3 new songs and their off vocal versions). The first one is the same name as the album, which I don't trust myself enough to translate, with vocals from the Kagamines. The second one is "Atelier Horloge", with vocals from Kasane Teto. (Atelier is French for workshop/studio, and horloge is French for clock.) The third song is "Sister Clarith's Peculiar Evening", with vocals from Hatsune Miku and Yuzuki Yukari. This will be mothy's first release using Teto and Yukari!
The album is illustrated by Ichika and will have an 8 page booklet.
mothy also gave a brief introduction for each song: the first song is bright and upbeat, the second song is bright and refreshing, and the third song isn't bright and is also dubiously a song at all. He also stated ten days ago that he plans to upload a video for the new Rin & Len song before Comiket, but only if he can finish it in time.

Can Alice build a black box????
So...apparently "Maria Moonlit"/Alice could build black boxes, as it's shown in the "clockwork lullaby" album booklet.
Kiril builds the model of the series' clockwork lullaby chart in the latter by using music boxes playing the "clockwork lullabies", compactifying them all with a black box system.
Upon arriving in the land of Angolmois, I was able to proceed with the compactification of the bb [black box] system, which was a long-pending problem, at once("clockwork lullaby" album booklet).
Tumblr media
(I'm talking about this chart again, from the "clockwork lullaby" album booklet, by akuno-p).
Upon arriving in the land of Angolmois, I was able to proceed with the compactification of the bb [black box] system, which was a long-pending problem, at once ("clockwork lullaby" album booklet).
In the booklet's chart, the black boxes are the ones with the strange texts: "with him and her", "no god" and "no utopia".
In the same, we discover that the three black boxes have been made by three different characters:
Clockwork lullaby 06/capriccio farce
<turns clockwise–connected by 04 through the Alice bb>
[...]
clockwork lullaby 10/Banica concerto!!
<turns counter-clockwise–connected by both 06 and 07>
<connects further to the big gear through the Seth bb>
[...]
clockwork lullaby 12/song of the third period
<turns counter-clockwise–connects by 09 and 03 through the Sickle bb>
<and to the big gear> ("clockwork lullaby" album booklet).
Let's look at that a little bit.
"Capriccio farce" (the "06" gear in the chart) is linked to the "04" gear through the "Alice bb".
What is the Alice black box?
From the chart, the box connecting the gears "04" and "06" is the one labeled "no god". That's the Alice black box.
In a similar fashion, the "10" gear is connected through the Seth's black box.
From the chart, we can see that such a box is the one labeled "with him and her".
Lastly, the gears "12" and "03" are connected to Sickle's black box, the one labeled "no utopia".
I don't really want to get in a conversation about the roles of the boxes in the chart, rather trying to answer: "how the heck could Alice build a black box?"
Black boxes in the series are second period technology, starting from the original model (the type "e") that allowed the psychiatric examination of the "swap technique" for studying the "her" patient in the second period...ending with all the other models built by the other colleagues of Held that were based off it, afterwards.
In any case, no third period resident has ever shown to be able to build a black box.
Yes, in the series we do see some "third period" characters using black boxes throughout the series: Allen (after he dies, in the "fifth pierrot" bonus short story and in other places too), Gammon (in the "master of the heavenly yard" novel), Gallerian (as the character mentions in chapter 7, scene 5 of that same novel), Irina (in the "fifth pierrot" novel, when she uses the black-box type "s" in her cat body, part 2, chapter 3, scene 1 of the novel; also in the "oss: punishment" novel too)...
...but never building it.
Except for a character: "doll director".
There were schematics in the corner of her mind. Using them, she designed a black box ("master of the heavenly yard" novel, chapter 7, scene 2).
A "black box"? What can it do?
A few scenes later in the same novel, we discover that the box is able to wind the time of a character's back.
“[...] I can’t thank the ‘doll director’ enough. Because of the 'black box' that she created, my time was rewound just a little bit." ("master of the heavenly yard" novel, chapter 8, scene 5).
Or better, it does a "formatting". In chapter 9, scene 3 of the "master of the heavenly yard" novel, that is described as a sort of destruction of the character's "soul" (in the series, it's "spirit data"); after that, the formatting also "recreates" the character as a "new being".
Destruction...creation...does that ring a bell?
That is a "re_birthday", the action performed by a series' "irregular".
Later in the novel (chapter 11, section 2, scene 1), the different "re_birthdays" are described, pointing out the fact that the "creation" part of the formatting is different in each one.
In particular, the one of the neo twins consists in "recreating" the character of the series as it originally was: as if it was brought back in time.
Everything was restored to how it was.
They would do it over again once more, from the beginning. ("master of the heavenly yard" novel, chapter 12, section 2).
But, wait a minute.
That's also what the "doll director"'s box does: a "re_birthday".
But how did she learn how to create a black box?
There were schematics in the corner of her mind. Using them, she designed a black box ("master of the heavenly yard" novel, chapter 7, scene 2).
Schematics in the corner of her mind? Looks like a faint memory on how to build a black box.
Memory from which time?
Irina has used a black box before, the one of her chest cavity in the cat body, but she has probably never built one from scratch, as far as i know.
On the other hand, the "clockwork lullaby album booklet" does mention of a black box built by Alice.
Therefore, I suppose that's where the memory comes from.
Since "black boxes" are a second period tech, the most realistic explanation as for why Alice could have built a black box is for a second period character to have taught her.
But which one?
We know that Alice has been in contact with Levia and Behemo, in the series, through their "glass bottle" communications or hearing their voices.
But...I don't believe it was either of them.
The reason for this is what Levia has said, again, in the "master of the heavenly yard" novel.
This “formatting” function—the idea itself had been conceived, but never put into practice.
And the person who came up with it…was Levia. In other words, me. And…i had torn up the plans without showing them to anyone else.
It was something Levia had proposed to improve upon the management of souls—spirit data–but the other researchers had opposed it.
…So then, who had created that flying box?
The only possible person would be someone who had been in a position to read my thoughts— ("master of the heavenly yard" novel, chapter 5, scene 6).
This dialogue wouldn't be consistent with the idea of Levia teaching Alice of the idea of formatting, in the series' oss era; otherwise, why should she be wondering so much about who built such a black box?
Levia didn't teach that to anybody both in the second or third period of the series, otherwise she could have told: "oh right, i did teach Alice about that".
Therefore, I don't think it's Levia...and neither Behemo, at that point.
There are several reasons for that too.
In their time trapped in the climb one, Levia and Behemo were basically stuck together and communicate with each other and with Alice (in the novel "muzzle of nemesis", you can see that in chapter 7, scene 2). Therefore, I assume Levia would have known that Behemo taught Alice about "formatting" and "how to build a black box", in case.
2. Behemo is not specialized in the building of black boxes in the first place, in the series.
So...which character taught Alice how to build a black box? Which character could have possibly "read Levia's mind" and teach Alice about "formatting"? Can there be an accurate novel explanation for this?
As we know, Alice has basically lived in isolation, since becoming queen: never showing up in public and the only character that is allowed to meet her is the head senator, Miroku.
So...who Alice could have met with the knowledge of "black boxes"?
Well, about the "doll director's" black box...that has been pointed out to be similar to a certain "black box".
The one [black box] floating in the air just then was—
It’s unlike the type "e", as well as the type "l" that I made. The closest I can think of is…the type "s"! ("master of the heavenly yard" novel, chapter 2, scene 3).
Mmmh, the "type" 's' black box, the one built by Seth.
Now that i think about it, Seth was also Miroku's retainer.
Seth also visited Alice to throw her children in the river...("oss crime" novel, chapter 4, scene 4).
They may have met before in other instances, I don't know.
But after that...Seth did brainwash Miroku multiple times ("oss crime" novel, chapter 4, scene 4), to the point he thought he was Alice ("oss crime" novel, chapter 3, scene 10).
Therefore, it is indeed also possible for Seth to have met Alice while the head senator's state was declining.
Even more, I think he must have done so...otherwise how could he have put Alice in Irina?
I really think Seth can have been be a believable candidate to teach Alice how to make a black box.
Otherwise, I don't have a lot of other second period characters which involvement with Alice can be backed up by novel information.
I thought of Luna at one point for several reasons, but she is not the kind of character that wants to interfere too much with the evillious world.
Luna is more likely to experience the third period like a game without too much interference, more than teaching Alice how to build a "character-formatting-box" in the series...which can have consequences in the evillious world, as we see in the "master of the heavenly" yard novel.
On the other hand, Luna has always been against "proactively managing the third period" in the series...
So...I think Seth can be the only character in the series that could have taught Alice how to build a black box.
But how did he learn about the formatting function, since Levia has shown such to no other character of the second period?
Well, in the series, Seth was in his mask form in the second period. In that form, he could read thoughts of his host or of other people too. Maybe Levia has worn him for a time?
The scenario Levia poses in the "master of the heavenly yard" novel (of someone reading her thoughts) is not so impossible, then.
Or maybe, Seth has managed to find the "torn up plans of formattation" of the false goddess and use them. Hence we have the scene 1 of chapter 5 of the "master of the heavenly yard" novel of a second period character building the black box.
Would it be Seth, though? Seth strongly believed about spreading "hers". Why would he build a black box to supposedly "eliminate it" in the series?
It's also true that his vessel "grim the end" in the series has the specific purpose of killing contractors or to destroy the "evillious' demons'" influence, in the various installments.
So, it wouldn't be that strange, after all.
Those questions are very difficult to answer because there is not a lot of indulging on the "second period" backstory in the novels or songs of akuno, neither we know what exactly happened to Alice, so...
...what do you think?
