Santa’s Roots

Author’s Notes | Some historians claim that Santa Claus’ figure was inspired by Odin. What if it was true? For a certain Modern Viking, it is! Inspired by Harbard’s interaction with young Ivar in the series. I hope you’ll like it! "Why do we have to make this stupid trip?"
Of course, he was annoyed. Even more, because he was planning a trip with Y/N to spend the Christian Christmas in a tropical country enjoying the heat; and now he was forced to drag his limp pained leg through the snow of the Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi.
Yeah. Lapland.
In the fucking FREEZING FINLAND!
"It's Yule and Christmas and no matter how you look at it, Ivar, it's a family holiday and we'll spend it together."
He loved his beautiful mother, but sometimes that need she had for them to be all together all the time was suffocating. After growing older, he was starting to understand his father's constant trips and to wish Aslaug would do something like fulfilling Sigurd's emptiness and his lack of motherly attention.
But this time, not even Sigurd had escaped that torture. And for the first time, they were both grumpy and moody at the same time.
At least, Y/N had come with him. Sigurd's girl was waiting for him with her family at the beach they had planned to go to together and that trip had forced him to delay. Ubbe as well was grumpy: dating Björn's ex-wife, he saw his hopes to send Torvi's children with Björn that year going down the drain. After all, what kid would want to exchange Santa Claus' village for a trip to the boring Mediterranean with daddy's brand-new chick?
Hvitserk was the only one having fun along with Y/N and the children - the bastard was finding every source of food, candies, and delights through their ways, putting so many smiles on Y/N's face that Ivar was asking all the gods to get his brother fat at the end of that cursed trip. Or at least some good, long and intense diarrhea, so he would have something to laugh at in the middle of all that red, black, gold, and white mess.
"Sorry!" A gods damn dwarf?
Gnome?
Grinch... No. Elf! A gods damn elf stumbled on his crutch, almost taking Ivar's balance, forcing him to stop his already slow steps to straighten the damn titanium braces under the trousers with a loud grunt of anger.
Because of course, his day wasn't doomed enough. No. The pain of that cold shitty place wasn't enough. Nor the elves everywhere, nor the repetitive music, nor the children's noises, fake gift boxes, bells... Not even the irritant bells weren't enough! Someone had to fucking misplace his braces to get him left behind by his whole family...
Kinda his fault: Ivar had walked slower than them all the whole time, trying to get himself distant and leave clear he wasn't happy. Even Y/N had started walking with Hvitserk since his mood was so terrible that not even her was able to hold it this time. He couldn't blame them for avoiding his presence enough not to notice he had to stop...
But where were they after all?
They wouldn't just disappear like that in a matter of minutes.
Ivar had just lowered himself for a moment to straighten the braces... How come they had managed to disappear in the middle of that fucking colored place?
For a moment, Ivar's heart filled with a cold sensation that spread all over this spine. He searched his pockets. Of course, his cellphone hadn't a single bar of signal in that place. His blues ran around searching for his brothers, the noisy children, his mom, Y/N.
And then it was when he realized...
There was no one to be seen.
The noisy children had gone. The elves were gone... Everything was, all of a sudden, silent, except for those bells.
With his crutch, Ivar walked around some steps, trying not to get lost in whatever the fuck was happening around him. But with a few steps forward, as if everything wasn't strange enough, a thick fog started to move around his legs, covering the place, flying ghostly through the gift boxes and colored trees.
Ivar felt the urge to get the heck out of that place. With some effort, he started walking at a quicker pace not observing when the decorations around him started changing from the usual plastic balls and ribbons to colored flowers, painted pine cones, straw animals... His eyes betrayed him, but his ears weren't failing: the bells were becoming higher. And higher...
"I don't know what kind of stupid prank is this! But I don't like it! I didn't pay for this package! I want this to stop right now!" he yelled.
Just to almost lose his balance once again when a horse exhaled behind his back, forcing him to turn around in a quick movement that cost him a grunt of pain, bending Ivar's body over itself when his hand touched the knee of his right leg. The braces had made a loud sound indicating it was a forced movement and now his knee was horribly aching once again.
However, the pain was something usual for him. Unusual was to see Santa Claus not dressed in the traditional red clothes... Unusual was to watch the old man coming down from a horse... Wait. How many legs did that fucking horse have?
And how the fuck did he have a horse? Shouldn't it be reindeers?
And a sled?
"What in..." Ivar started, swallowing dry and lifting his face to see the man in front of him was smiling.
A visible and open smile in the middle of the big and voluminous white beard covering his jaw and cascading down to his belly.
"Hello, Ivar," the man said with a surprisingly cozy voice, causing Ivar's face to twist in a frown of pure surprise, full of wrinkles on his forehead that earned one of the usual laughs from the white-bearded man.
Tumblr media
"What the heck?" Ivar said, straightening himself even with pain on his leg. "Who told you my name? And why the fuck are we alone in this place?"
The man continued calm and smiley despite Ivar's clear annoyance.
"I know many names, boy. And I know you, since you were, in fact, a boy," the man said, looking down to Ivar's legs. "They still ache a lot, I can see."
Ivar's frown gained two more wrinkles on his forehead.
"What? Where do you know me? Who are you, man?" he asked, fully annoyed by what he was sure was a ridiculous prank his mother had paid for him to fall on, in the hope he would, somehow, like that trip into the middle of the freezing nowhere.
But the man just laughed once again, touching Ivar with a gentle pat that soon became a heavy hand weighing on Ivar's shoulder, forcing his whole attention to detail he wasn't able to notice before but now was clear like crystal in front of his eyes.
That man... That strange Santa Claus...
He clearly didn't have one of his eyes.
Ivar's blues were somehow attracted into the emptiness of that missing eye. And he swore he could hear the bells stopping, and crows cawing. The fog became stronger, but Ivar couldn't stop looking at that empty hole on that man's face until something formed into the dark.
Something that made Ivar's blues large when the voice of that man sounded once again, rumbling into Ivar's chest like a clap of thunder.
"I know everyone that was and everyone that will be. I'm the one who was and remains. And after you're gone, I'll still be here, until the wolf comes to swallow me whole. But before you go, I can still grant you a gift, son. Let us say you were good this year," the old man joked.
His words filling Ivar's ears while his eyes were locked at the image into that man's empty eye-hole.
"Yggdrasil..." Ivar mumbled.
And his eyes blinked, seeing the whole man once again in front of him, smiling.
"Odin?" he asked.
Receiving nothing but a new pat on his shoulder and once again, the traditional giggle that came along the whole noisy environment around, all at once invading Ivar's ears like a wave of noise and mess once again.
"Ho ho ho... Merry Christmas!"
Standing in front of him was nothing but an actor, fully dressed like the old Santa. Nothing different from the usual along with the fake gift boxes and all the rest Ivar could see when he turned his head, confused, searching for that whole illusion he was thrown into one second ago.
Was that a delirium? Was that somehow real?
"What's wrong, Ivar?" Y/N's voice woke him up and called his attention causing Ivar to once again turn himself too quick to look at her.
Another clang from his braces. Ivar waited for the wave of pain...
But it never came.
"Are your legs ok? Are you in pain, love?" she asked, fully worried.
But Ivar looked shocked down to his legs, feeling nothing. Absolutely no pain. Like one of his best-bones' days...
The days he used to say were gifts from the gods into his life.
"I... I... I think I... I'm fine I just... For a moment..." Ivar gasped with the words.
His eyes were still searching around for that image so vivid of Odin he had seen. He was sure he had seen! It was real!
And he took his pain away for a day...
"You see? The cold is starting to freeze Ivar's brain! Can we go home or at least somewhere warm now?" Sigurd complained.
The kids coming closer to Ubbe with their hands full of candy canes from Hvitserk's bag.
Everyone was so close... They didn't have disappeared.
But Ivar was sure he was the only one who saw that man.
"Are you ok, Ivar?" Y/N asked again and Ivar finally focused his eyes on her.
"I am. I'm just... I think I just need some warm chocolate and we can stay a little longer... For the kids, I mean."
"What?" Sigurd complained immediately. "See? Frozen brains!" he said, pointing Ivar's head.
But Ivar just approached Y/N's, speaking low, almost like a secret.
"Do you believe this thing about... Santa and Odin... Being the same person and stuff?" he asked, causing Y/N to smile.
"Oh, this is why you're so bothered, isn't it? Babe, don't be like this, uh? Some historians say that our Santa is somehow inspired by Odin with his eight-legged horse, granting gifts to his followers and knowing who was acting bad or good along his way. If it makes you feel more comfortable then think about this place as Odin's village!" she joked.
Getting a small curve from Ivar's lips.
"Come, let's get you that hot chocolate, uh?" she said, enlacing his arm with her own and starting to walk at his pace towards the coffee shop Hvitserk was already entering for what? The third time?
Ivar's eyes looked back at that man dressed as Santa Claus, complimenting everyone. His steps showing him his legs weren't aching at all anymore. Whoever it was, Santa Claus, Odin... It had really granted him a gift for that day.
The Santa turned looking at him once again.
And Ivar could swear that one-eyed man winked at him before it was nothing but the actor once again.
"Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas!" the man yelled.
Santa Claus' Village... Odin's place... It wasn't that bad to make that trip after all.

“Chasing Jessi”:  A Sirius Black Story: Plus Size OC: Chapter 7: Tinkerbell & The Lost Boy
Tumblr media
————————-
Sirius Black Imagine Turned Story
Re-Written and Edit of an old story of mine I had on Mibba that deserved some more love and attention, lol.
Sirius Black x Jess Scamander (OC, OFC, PLUS SIZE OC, PLUS SIZE OFC)
————————————
Tumblr media
-------------------------------
Sirius Black was lounging comfortably in his bunk. He hadn't even bothered to change out of the KISS shirt and black flannel pajama bottoms at this point. He was reading through a book that he'd borrowed from Jess. Contrary to popular belief... Sirius actually loved to read.
He’d rather die than admit that but he’d learned from an early age that it could easily provide an escape from his horrible daily life.
Again though, he’d rather die than admit and let someone see him doing it.
He was up rather early on a Sunday morning- something that used to be obscenely out of character before he played Quidditch. Now, it seemed that his biological clock was against him. However, it proved rather useful when wanting the shower to yourself or getting to breakfast while everyone was still in bed.  He'd been to breakfast already and was currently just relaxing for he had been informed by a tired looking Lily Evans that Jess was not coming down for breakfast this morning. He had been slightly disappointed but guessed that it was because the two girls had been up late talking. He figured that girls did that just as much as boys did. Although, for Jess's sake he hoped not because James had nearly driven him mad last night by both talking about every detail of his and Lily's date and all but demanding the same from Sirius. Honestly, boys were just as bad as girls when it came to gossip.
If not worse.  However, he supposed he could just try and read this ridiculous book of hers until she awoke. He had really just settled in and was beginning to immerse himself into this fantasy world when.... "Sirius!!!" His brows furrowed and he glanced over at Remus who was studying on the floor in front of his bunk but he only shrugged.
"Sirius! Ooof! Sorry! Sirius!" "What in the name of Merlin?" he pondered as he sat the book down and went to the door to see none other than his hyperactive girlfriend balancing a package on her hip and apologizing to a fourth year boy who went white as a ghost at the sight of her. "You're ...you're not supposed to be up here." the boy said. "Oh, I'm sorry." she said to him. "I'm just looking for Sirius. See, I have something I have to-" The boy was too shaken to speak. To be fair, she was still wearing her pajamas and he was a fourteen year old boy, most likely with a crush on her. And she was only wearing a big floppy yellow smiley face shirt and some rather short multi colored shorts. "Over here, love." Sirius smirk. She turned to face him with a relieved smile looking so odd with her floral cat ear headband and her big blue monster house shoes. "Thanks, anyway." she told the boy and gave him a one armed hug. Sirius almost snorted when the boy looked as if he may pass out. The poor boy probably didn't know whether he found her attractive, terrifying or strange....or all three. "What are you doing up here?" he asked her as she came to a stop in front of him, "And in your pajamas no less?" "I have something for you." she said simply but he smirked and she smacked him in the stomach, "Not that!" "Aw, and it's almost my birthday too." he moaned playfully and he opened the door and let her him. "Hello, Remus." she greeted the studious green eyed boy. "Oh, uh, hi Jess." he said a little surprised to see her there, especially in her pjs.  "Remus, she beats me." Sirius wailed dramatically. "She wounds me." "If it's to your pride..." he said. "I suggest she do it some more. Your head is far too big as it is." Jess grinned in victory. Sirius gasped, "Moony, old boy, I can't believe it! Everyone's mistreating me and it's almost my birthday!" "Sirius, if you don't come sit down, then I'm going to open your present." she informed him smartly. "Present?" he asked. "What present?" "This one." she said tapping the lid of the green box. "You got me a present?" he asked curiously taking a seat on the bunk as the box lay between them.  "No." she said. "Well, yes. I did. But this isn't it. This is from my mum and dad." "What?" he asked in disbelief. "From mum and dad." she repeated. "She sent a blasted howler as well. Damn near threatened my life if I opened it. So I'm guessing it's rather good and most likely involving food. Best open it sooner than later." Sirius' hands shook just a little as he pulled the box open and cringed as a howler floated out. It was that same familiar shape that he recognized as the ones Jess usually got. From previous experiences, he was expecting yelling but relaxed when he saw the letter transform and the dark wax sealed lips give him a smile. It began to speak in a soothing tone, "Hello, Dear. Happy Birthday! I do hope you have a good one this year and that you get this package in time. Jess mentioned that you had a particular liking for toffee and fudge so I do hope you like what's inside. She also mentioned that you loved music and so there is something extra special inside from my husband. He said that he wanted it to go someone who could appreciate her as he much as he did. I wasn't allowed to see so I'm trusting that it's appropriate and if it's it not, you'd best tell me so I can tan his hide! Everything is under the shrinking charm so all you need to do is use the Engorgio charm. If you have trouble with it, I would advise you to ask Lily rather than Jess. She means well but she tends to get terribly excited and...blow things up. We are so excited to see Jess making such lovely friends! She speaks very highly of you and bless your soul, you must be patient to deal with her antics! I do hope she isn't being too rough. Some of those pictures... Merlin, I feared she'd nearly kill you with that one on the broom. I've told her about that! Nevertheless, any friend of hers is a friend to us. Welcome to the family, sweet boy. Have a wonderful birthday, dear! May you have many more! P.S. Do not let my child con you out of your presents with her innocent face. I know that she 'seems' sweet but if you give in...you'll regret it. Trust me. Her father has been wrapped around her finger since she was six seconds old. " When the letter was finished it ripped itself up and turned to ash. Sirius was a little disappointed. It had been so nice...he had kind of wanted to keep it. He glanced up to find Remus looking at him curiously and Jess looking mildly offended. "She makes me sound like some kind of animal." she scoffed. "Well..." Remus smirked. "I'd say more reptilian. You do have a certain, what was it you called it Padfoot? Dragon lady...quality about you." "Remus Lupin!" she scolded him. "You are a booger head and I am not talking to you anymore!" "I have chocolate." he said lifting his brows at her and holding up a piece. "All is forgiven." she said racing over to join him. "So what did she get you?" she piped up from her spot with Remus on the floor. Sirius reached into the box to pull out a container and he smiled. "Toffee." he smiled. "Oooh!" she gushed and jumped on his bed. "That's mum homemade toffee! It's really good! She won a blue ribbons for it at the local Muggle fair!" He pulled another out and observed the white chunks with rainbow sprinkles. "Birthday cake fudge." he smiled as he read the label aloud. "It's really good." Jess nodded. "It tastes like white chocolate and cake batter. Mum makes it for Dad every year on his birthday. I bet she had to make two batches!" He pulled out a jar of something and for just a moment it made him think of firewhiskey but he smiled when he read the label. 'Sirius, dear, this is a new recipe I'm trying out. It's called Toffee Syrup. We like to put it in porridge, tea, pumpkin juice, coffee...come to think of it, anything really. I've added just a bit something special to this one. I'd love to hear what you think.' "Mum'll kill me for telling you this but it's really good you mix it with firewhiskey and put it over ice cream." Jess piped up and he lifted his brows at her. "And here I thought you were sweet and innocent." he commented. She laughed, "Sirius, we both know I'm far from either of those." He pulled out a black knitted hat. "Oh, Mum, doesn't want you to catch cold!" she wailed dramatically. "Don't cry on it." he teased. "But she stitched it with love, Sirius!" she wailed again. He resisted the urge to shove her off the bed when something caught his eye. A small black case and upon further inspection he realized that it was a guitar case. 'Engorgio.' he murmured and enlarged it before pulling the zipper open to reveal a beautiful black acoustic guitar. "Ophelia!" Jess squeaked. "What?" Sirius asked her. "It's Ophelia." she said. "It's Dad's guitar. He let me name her when I was a little girl." Sirius frowned, "Oh, maybe you should have it then." "Nah." she shook her head. "I'm rubbish at guitar. I'm a drums kind of girl...much to mum's dismay." She grinned wickedly and pretended to play the drums.
She never failed to make him laugh.  He pulled it out and ran his hand over it before glancing into the case and seeing the matching strap and an envelope. He opened the envelope to reveal a small note and a silver chain with a matching guitar pick on the end. "Hello, Sirius. I hope you have a very Happy Birthday. Jess tells me that you love music along with many other things. She seems quite fond of you and speaks of you quite a lot. Which is considerably out of character for her. You have to understand that for the longest time when she wrote home...it was usually to tell us that Lily's eyebrows had grown back or that she'd was very close to finding redcap colony. Naturally, as her father, I was a little defensive about you at first. However, you seem like an alright lad and she seems to take a liking to you. Any man that will willingly let her braid rainbow colored yarn into their hair....well you're alright with me, kid. I hope you have a great birthday and you enjoy old Ophelia. P.S. If you press the guitar pick, you can record yourself. Comes in handy when you're working on songs. ' Sirius carefully sealed the letter back up and placed everything delicately back in the box. "Sirius?" Jess whispered. "You have really, really good parents." he said quietly. Remus quietly left the room, deciding it was best to give the two of them some time. "I know." she said softly. Sirius just nodded, still just slightly shaking until she placed her hand on his. "Maybe you can meet them sometime. You know, to properly welcome you to the family and all." she said. There was more to that statement than either of them were willing to talk about at that moment. Grey eyes caught green and they just stared for a moment. She decided to break the tension with some comedy. "Mum may be swayed by your charms but I will not being giving you your present from me until it's your actual birthday." she said. "You got me a present?" he questioned. "Yes, and I'm not telling so don't even try!" she scolded as she stuck her finger in his face. He smirked at her challenge as he carefully placed the box underneath his bed and grabbed her ankle. "Not even if I do...." he trailed off as he hovered above her neck. "This." She bit her lip when his lips caressed her skin. "No!" she cried out. "Don't use your tricks!" "How about here?" he asked kissing her nose. "Never." she whispered. "Alright." he said. "But I think I'll try one more." "I'll never surrender, Captain Hook!" she called out, grinning wickedly as she saw her book on his bed side table. "Now, now Tinkerbell. Let's not be rash." he teased. "Now give me some of that pixie dust." She erupted into a fit of giggles, "Sirius Black, Lord of the Cheeseballs!" He tickled her relentlessly, "Surrender!" "Never!" she said rolling out from underneath him and racing into the halls, "Lost Boys, unite! We have to defend ourselves against the terrible Captain Hook!" The muggleborns got it, thought it was weird, but go it. Everyone...just kind of wrote it off as Jess being Jess. And James Potter stood at the foot of stairs looking at his friend with an odd expression on his face. "What?" Sirius asked. James shook his head. "Nothing. It's just...you two are clearly into some weird things." he said. Sirius laughed and shoved his friend along into his room. The thing was...he didn't mind her little games. He loved them almost as much as he did her.

Ugly Sweaters
"And the loser is... y/n! Congratulations to all the players~"
You sigh, knowing this was coming. The rest of the night is spent drinking and laughing along to stupid jokes. You stay along with your best friend and roommate, Chaerim. She was extremely tipsy for a pre-Christmas party, and you wanted to stay by her side before she gets kidnapped by an odd guy.
You were at your college friend’s residence, celebrating the last day of November before the beginning of the festive month. All of you played games until one of your friends proposed a game of beer pong, where the winner would choose the punishment for the loser. After the winner was decided, Chan, you knew he was going to go hard on the loser. A few moments are dedicated to thinking, and he replies.
"The loser has to wear ugly Christmas sweaters for the next 25 days until Christmas Eve."
And when the loser was judged, you, Chan's eyes filled with pity after imagining you wearing an ugly yellow-colored sweater filled with clashing decorations. He laughed awkwardly, not wanting to tense the atmosphere around you. Of course, you weren't upset, it was just a game. The next few weeks at work were off, you didn't have college, so you would stay at your apartment under the comforts of your ugly sweater.
On the day before the first day of the Christmas month, November 30, you went shopping to buy sweaters with Chaerim. Your eyes filled with awe as you looked at all the latest collection of sweaters, heart-melting, and bank account shivering. You start to think that this challenge wasn’t terrible for you since you could save your money now!
But that didn't stop your shopping partner from practically throwing her money everywhere she found a cute sweater. Hell, the sweater wouldn't even cover her torso, and it would still tumble into the shopping cart to get along with its other rich mates. Meanwhile, you move towards the nearly isolated section of the store, searching for an ugly, but presentable hoodie to satisfy your friends' growing impatience on the group chat, asking for your picture in the outfit.
You spot an employee from your peripheral vision, looking at you with his booklet and pen in hand. He walks over to you and you turn around to face him with a handful of sweaters drowning you. He chuckles before speaking.
"Excuse me, do you need help with those?"
"Uh... Yes please."
You pick up feet shuffling away as you stand there behind the pile of wool. You hear wheels rolling when you peek from behind the pile in your hands to see the employee bringing a shopping cart for you. You thank him as you dump the pile into the cart, resting your arms after holding the weight.
"Thank you... Jisung", you say smiling as you notice the name on his tag reading 'Han Jisung'.
"Oh, don't worry it's my job. Why the ugly sweaters though? Lost a bet?"
You chuckle, "Lost a game. It was bad." He laughs along as he fixes some clothes falling out of the trolley. You take this moment of silence as an opportunity to check him out. Han Jisung was slim. He had a petite figure —small waist, narrow shoulders— but he was well built. His white button-up hugged his arms and waist at the right place. He had a good pair of thighs, his black slacks acting like a second skin on the limbs.
"So... I'm gonna go now, my friend's waiting for me. I hope we meet again!", you bubble, waving the male a goodbye. He smiled and went back to work, noting down some price tag values and clicking his pen close. You walk over to Chaerim, her cart overflowing with accessories and dresses that were maybe more expensive than your entire wardrobe.
"Chae, honey, we're shopping for the week. Not for the decade," you cautioned, eyeing her shopping cart. Chaerim was rich, anyone could tell. But she was humble. She wouldn't brag about her riches, but also couldn't box her shopaholic nature when she saw the designer fabric and exceptional perfume. Those were her weaknesses, and she might as well live off without a family, but no new clothes? She would die.
You stand in line as you see Jisung run-up to the next cashier counter, filling in the empty spot. You feel a tug at your arm, and only register your friend pulling you towards him. He smiles at your friend before looking at you, beaming like the sunshine. He scans your clothes, which took twenty minutes due to Chaerim buying nearly three-fourth of the store before handing over the receipt to you two. Chaerim pays for it and as she types in her credit card password in the machine, Jisung asks–
"So, what's your name?"
"y/n", you smile, mentally beating yourself up for not saying it the first time you met. You and Chaerim grab the bags of clothes as you waddle up to the exit, stopped by the call of your name.
"Hey! Wait for a second!"
You and your roommate turn on your heels to face a breathless Jisung as he hands a credit card your way. You look at Chaerim as she makes eye contact with you and you metaphorically slap her. If it weren't for Jisung, your friend would have to pick food out of a trash can.
"You can leave those here, you know. I'll deliver them at your place", Jisung nervously suggests, gesturing his hands as if trying to pry the bags away from you. You smile at him and nod as he takes out his notepad and writes down the address Chaerim dictates him. Your friend hands the bags to Jisung and leaves to call a cab, leaving you and the boy alone to hoard aside your wares. As you turn to leave, Jisung stops one last time, scratching the back of his neck.
"Can I have your number?"
You cock an eyebrow at the question amusingly. He notices your reaction, quickly jumping to clarify his words.
"I— I meant if I couldn't find your address! I don't wanna get in someone's pants after 10 minutes of conversation!"
"So if our talk lasted longer, you would ask my number to get in my pants, am I right?"
"Yes! I... I mean no! I—" he huffs out, pouting his lips as he failed to make you understand his true intentions.
"Okay okay, I'm just kidding. Here, note it down", you giggle at his softness, giving your number to him. You run back out the store as you look at Chaerim enter a taxi, running over to the vehicle and hopping inside
You and Chaerim order takeout on the way home, and you couldn't stop smiling at the interaction you had with Jisung. Your friend noticed your happiness, twirling her fingers at the base of your hair.
"Who's my lover girl thinking about, hm?"
"Hey! I'm not thinking about anyone", you mumble, grinning as your thoughts flood with Jisung's smiley and bubbly face. You hear a scoff, followed by an “As our lover girl says”, from next to you as you elbow your friend in her sides, laughter filling the cab.
You reach home and get ready for bed, phone dinging with notifications as you open your group chat to view texts from your desperate and thirsty friends. You even notice a few from Chaerim, giggling at her stupidity. You tell them all to wait since the clothes were on their way, and that was enough to blow up your phone even more; a few texts from people who you didn't even know were enquiring about the ugly sweaters.
As you brew yourself and your roommate a hot chocolate, you hear your phone ringing. You look at the unknown number ringing you and you pick up, thinking it was Jisung who couldn't find your apartment.
"Hello, ther—"
"Good Evening Madam! You are the lucky winner of our raffle round! You have won a car and a grand prize of one million dollars! All you need to do is send in your social security number as well as passport details to receive the pri—"
You hang up, annoyed at the loud voice of the call center employee. If anything, they should've hired someone with a voice like Jisung's, soft, polite, kind, and actually convincing. Realizing you wouldn’t be able to meet him then, you forget about the call, sipping from your drink. You hear your phone ring again as you pick up without looking at the caller ID.
"You better listen to me right now. I miserably need a car and definitely need a million dollars, but if I had to give out my social security number around like cupcakes, you can consider shoving those prizes right up your as— "
"Y/n! What are you talking about?" A surprised voice speaks through the phone. You realize it wasn't from the caller this time, but from Jisung on the other side. You absolutely hated yourself and wanted nothing more than Han Jisung himself tossing you into outer space.
"Listen, it's okay, that's happened to me too, and it was to my boss, which is even worse. Now don't ask if I did it intentionally or not, because that would get me fired." he laughed across the static line, making you at ease and snicker too.
"Anyway, so there's this huge stationery shop, that's your building yeah?"
"Yep"
"Great. I'm on my way!"
"Thanks, Jisung!" you squeal, thanking the boy for his kind intentions. You wait at the door for the boy to bring your clothes. It was as if you were attracted to him like he was a magnet and you a piece of iron. He was sweet, caring, helpful, not to mention very attractive and probably the best boyfriend one could ask for.
You jolt as you hear the doorbell ring, quickly shuffling to open the gate. You see Jisung standing at the doorway with his hands filled with nearly five full bags of garments. You offer him to come in and have some hot chocolate and sit down since he must be tired from delivering the huge stack of clothes all the way down to your house.
He politely denies the offer, talking about coming over some other time, preferably when he wasn't doing night shifts. You felt pity for him since he had to work even during Christmas Eve. You smile and wave him goodbye until he leaves out of your sight, tossing the feeling of your heart rapidly thumping against your ribs aside, getting ready to send your annoying friends a picture of you in your new outfit, your first ugly sweater out of the other twenty-four you were going to be forced to wear not only by your annoying classmates but also your roommate.
You do the usual routine, brush your teeth, clean your makeup, get comfortable and cuddle up next to your teddy bear plushie. You think about Jisung one last time before dozing off and place your teddy bear’s paw above your head, smiling at the feeling of your roommate’s soft hands carding through your scalp to get you to sleep.
••••
A few days pass by, and Jisung still hasn't left your mind. You always hover your finger above the call button, to at least hear his voice once. You had never behaved that way, to say the least. Even Chaerim noted how your eyes would glisten and shine at the mere mention of Jisung's name. How you would shy down under your blankets when she would ask you about him. And when the day to buy the next batch of ugly sweater rolled along, you couldn't control your happiness.
You practically ran towards the store, looking for not only the sweaters but for a particular someone. You smile when your eyes land on Jisung and you try playing it cool as if you haven’t been thinking of him all week. But when he locked eyes with you, he was the one whose heart rate skyrocketed. He squealed and ran towards you, grabbing you by your arm and taking towards the latest collection of hideous sweaters. Chaerim looked over at the two of you with doe eyes, happy that her best friend was finally getting hooked up and wouldn't be a lone wolf at Christmas.
You and Jisung had grown closer over the next few days, with you meeting him after his shifts with your new bright green hoodies and yellow sweaters. You would get a few looks and laughs here and there, but it was all a joke. You liked Jisung, and you knew he liked you back. Stating that the two of you had become inseparable was an understatement. You two were basically connected by the waist and would spend the smallest moment away from work with each other. Albeit, you two hadn't confessed.
It was only two days for Christmas now, and even Chaerim’s boyfriend had come over. It would always disappoint you that you had to sleep out on the couch when your roommate would share intimate moments with him. Not because of the simple fact that your bed was taken away from you, but because you couldn't do the same to her with Jisung. Even you wanted Jisung to kiss you, to touch you in places you've never let even the closest people touch you, to have sex with you.
To tell you he loves you.
••••
At last, it was Christmas. Your overly excited roommate had tied up mistletoes around the house. You had invited Jisung over to spend the night together since Chaerim would be busy with her partner. You and Jisung would randomly yell out a 'kiss! you're under the mistletoe!' to the couple whenever they would cross from under the leaves, earning a groan from either one of the two. You two would chuckle and sit in one position, not moving from the couch so that they didn't have the opportunity to take revenge.
You feel someone shuffling behind you when you look back at Minho holding up something above the two of you. Chaemin crosses her hands and taps her feet smirking as she opens her mouth to leave words you weren't planning on hearing for the rest of the evening.
"Kiss, honey. You're under the mistletoe", She grins, her plan working as she wanted it. You huff, mumbling a "That's not fair" to the older couple looking down at you two. You look at Jisung, who just smiles smugly and shrugs as if suggesting that you two have no other option.
He shifts in his place, making your insides shiver as he places his hand on your jaw, leaning in to meet your lips. His lips feel like cotton candy on yours, your strawberry flavored chapstick blending with his make-shift saliva covered lips.
You pull away, anxiety instead of blood coursing through your nerves. Looking away and not making eye-contact with Jisung, you make a mental note of killing your roommate and her boyfriend once you find the right moment. Jisung rubs his palm against the flesh of your thigh in an attempt to stop your veins from getting jittery. Instead, the touch does the complete opposite, making fire rage in your body. You clear your throat glancing at Chaerim and Minho and walk to the kitchen after announcing that you were going to get you all some snacks.
That night, you and Jisung were exceptionally quiet. It felt as if you two were out of topics to talk about when in reality, you didn't want to face each other. You suddenly feel regret, thinking that maybe if you hadn't invited Jisung, he wouldn't have been embarrassed, and maybe your friend would still remain.
It was late at night when you all sat down in a circle, holding three to four gifts each between your legs. You were nervous and excited, curious as to what Jisung had bought you. Chaerim started, who received a silver ring from Minho, followed by Minho, who got tickets to his favorite artist's concert from his partner. He hooted and the pair kissed a filthy kiss, making you young chicks look away. You look at Jisung and gag, making him laugh at your cute faces.
You motion Jisung to open the gift you had given him, and he obliges. He opens the wrapper to reveal an expensive album record that he had been dying to buy but couldn't since he was short in money. He fist-bumped the air, jumping up and dancing a cute dance while chanting 'I'm so happy' over and over.
"Open your's, quick!"
By now all eyes were on you since you were the last one to open your gift. Minho shoots a 'hope it isn't a five-dollar bill' to Jisung, earning a face from the younger. You smile and open your gift, revealing a red-colored oversized sweater covered in white pearls and green beads. Your mouth hangs agape as you look over at Jisung and back at the dress.
"I saw you swooning over this when we first met, so I thought it would make the perfect gift", he speaks nonchalantly, waving off the fact that he could've bought ten of the album records he'd been dying to buy all these weeks with the money he spent on one sweater for you.
You jump up and hug him as your lips meet, this time both of you sharing the affection. This was how you wanted your kiss with Jisung to be like –slow, passionate and loving, not forced and under pressure of people watching you. You hear the older two yells “Get a room!” as you smile into the kiss, his hands snaking down to your waist.
All of you decide to watch a movie, which was ultimately ditched by Chaerim and Minho because they were sleepy as they prance into your and Chaerim’s shared bedroom, preparing to keep the neighbors awake all night with their sinful sounds. You and Jisung were left under the covers, cuddling into each other. He looks at you and opens his mouth to ask you something, words stuck in his throat as you’re facing the screen, your soft features illuminated by nothing but the bright light from it.
“Did you enjoy the kiss before?”
You frown in confusion, “If I said no, will you make me feel better?”
You feel the couch shift next to you and you turn towards him completely, his hands running up and down your sides. You cup his soft cheeks and pull him into a kiss, the sensation being both feverish and passionate. He pulls you closer to him, making you straddle his legs. You lick your lips before diving back in, pushing yourself onto him so that he lies down on the couch. You lay atop him, and he grazes his tongue against your lips as you permit him entrance. You bite his bottom lip, bubbling a small whine out of him. Only through the light provided by the television, you still feel him blush red, embarrassment flooding through him.
You run your hands through his fluffy hair, tugging at it softly as he moans into the kiss, sounds muffled due to your lips connected. He props himself up such that you fall under him, and for once you thank Chaerim for buying a wide sofa. You break the kiss, breathing in a tuft of air, only for it to be stuck in your lungs as Jisung nips at the skin on your neck, his growing bulge grinding down on your inner thigh. You feel the wet patch on your clothed core growing as every second passes by, your body becoming needy for action.
He sits up and crawls down to have your pussy face him. He removes your leggings, letting your underwear remain. He blows on the wet area a few times, earning eager whines from you, and you hold a fistful of his hair between your fingers, trying to pull him closer to your heat. He obliges, licking a fat strip on your slit right above the lacey material, making you shudder with pleasure. He pushes his muscle against your hole, making a moan bubble from your lips.
Pushing your underwear aside, he quickly jumps to business. He starts eating you out like he hadn’t just had dinner an hour ago. You arch your back in pleasure when he works his tongue against your clit, sucking on the bundle of nerves. Two fingers prod at your entrance and before you can think about them, they’re pushed into your core, making you moan and buck your hips into his face.
He holds you down with his free hand, rubbing his thumb against your clit and tongue licking your slit a couple times. He pushes his tongue inside you, and you clench around him. He laps your walls and reaches your sweet spots, making you thrash under him. You wanted to desperately release the alien feeling in your abdomen, but Jisung wasn’t going any further than fingering you.
“Jisung, please” was all it took for the boy to unbuckle his belt and drop it at the foot of the couch. He takes his pant off and climbs back up to you, kissing every part of your skin from your torso to your breast, pushing the blue sweater up along with his forehead. You pull the fabric over your head, revealing your bra-less figure. Jisung groans at the sight, biting his bottom lip as he starts grinding his hips into your dripping cunt.
He reaches out to run a hand through your hair, only to be stopped by your fingers curling around his wrists. You bring them down and press his palm over your heat, showing him how hot and wet you were, how desperate you were for his cock to be buried deep inside of you. He exhales a growl and tugs at your panties, pulling them off. He grinds on you a couple of times before finally pushing his length in you, inch by inch, to prevent any pain from coming to the bay.
Once he’s fully in, he opens his eyes to look at you, mouth agape and eyes screwed shut. One of your hands were tangled in his hair, while the other one was gripping the edge of the sofa, almost tearing a hole into the material. You open your eyes at the sudden stillness, only for Jisung to cock his head questioningly as if asking if he could move. You nod after a couple moments, bliss washing over the pain. He starts thrusting into you, slow and hard. He reaches lengths in you almost no one ever did, and you were shaking in pleasure.
He hears a moan, but not from you, it roams from the bedroom. Even they’re fucking. He picks up his speed once he thinks you’re doing well, thrusting into you like his life depends on it. He reaches your cervix head-on a couple of times, lolling a scream and yelp from you occasionally. You moan louder, drowning out the noises coming from the bedroom. And when he starts gyrating his long fingers against your clit, you jolt in pleasure, gripping on his arms tightly as your pleasure waves over you.
Your breathing starts getting labored and he hardens his grip on your waist, making your body burn with pleasure. He bends down, biting and sucking on your neck, licking the area after he’s created a marooned art piece. The feeling on your skin drove you to the edge, and you release around him, walls clenching at his fat length in you. He pulls out of you and thrusts into his hand, searching for his orgasm miserably.
You replace his hand with yours, and though limp, you sit up against the arms of the couch and start pumping his length in your hand. He throws his head back in pleasure, his bottom lip between his teeth and eyebrows scrunched. You lick from base to top, kitten licking his slit when you feel he’s getting closer to his high. You hollow your mouth and fill him into the cavity, making him hit the back of your throat. Sucking and swallowing at his length, what couldn’t fit in your mouth was replaced by your hands, rubbing the pads of your fingers against his protruding vein.
He orgasms hard, making his vision go white with black dots. You suck him dry, some of his cum dribbling down your chin as you get up, which he cleans with the back of his hand. He pulls you into a kiss, tasting his orgasm on your palette.
You pull away to join him under the blankets, cuddling and hugging him as he kisses your forehead. You whisper small ‘I love you’s to him, and he returns them with pecks littering your cheek, smiling like a madman. He hugs and nuzzles his head against your hair, mumbling sweet nothings. You face him, inching your face further from his.
“What are you mumbling about?”
“I bought that dress because employees have a 65% discount on store items,” he confesses, giggling. You open your eyes wide, laughing softly at his cheekiness. Your snuggle closer into his chest, hearing his heart beating only for you. He cards his hand through your hair until he hears soft snores from you.
He looks over at the ugly sweater sprawled across the other end of the couch and smiles, mind rewinding back to the time when you two first met.

How You Get the Girl
Summary: You’re a childhood friend of Auston, who introduces you to Clayton. From there, a friendship starts to bloom, until one day everything changes.
Features: Minor angst. Auston as a side character. Mentions of the movie Thankskilling...do yourself a favor and never watch it...ever
Notes: Requested fic. This took me a while to write and I’m glad it’s finally done. Originally was going to be titled Love Me Anyway, but ended up liking How You Get the Girl as the title more.
Word Count: 2898
Arizona was home. It was where your family was, where your friends were. You were sticking around for college. You had grown up with Auston Matthews, who had gone first overall to the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was Auston’s fault you ended up here, at least that’s what you were telling yourself. Auston’s rookie season had come to an end. Clayton Keller, who had been the Coyote’s 2016 Draft Pick, had signed his contract with the Coyote’s and was sticking around for a little while after the end of the season to get a feel for his new city. Auston had invited you to lunch to introduce you.
“You can show him around,” Auston said when you met up with the duo. You just rolled your eyes. But you agreed. There was something about Clayton that attracted you. You weren’t sure why Auston didn’t do it himself, but couldn’t be bothered to ask. Not when it meant you got to spend time with an attractive guy.
You and Clayton spent a day going to your favorite places. You showed him some hidden gems, some popular spots, and some places that you just liked to go because of the familiarity. You quickly fell into a routine with him, even after he headed home for the summer.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You were hanging out with Auston one night late in the summer before he was getting ready to head back to Toronto for the season. You had gotten to choose the movie that night, and instead of going to a favored movie or playing Netflix Roulette, you chose Thankskilling, opting to subject Auston to the film. Your friends had made you watch it with them a few months prior when they were doing a binge watch of a series called Theater Mode. And so far, it had been a fantastic option, if only for the horrified expressions your best friend made and the snarky commentary.
“Did that turkey just…?” Auston asked trailing off. You just nodded. The movie, if you could even call it that, was hard enough to sit through the first time. Your phone lit up with a new text, Clayton’s name flashing on your screen. You smiled when you read his message, telling you when he’d be coming back to Arizona.
“Who’s got you all smiley?” Auston asked, raising an eyebrow. He hadn’t seen that kind of smile on your face in some time. Last time he’d seen a smile that bright on your face had been when you were dating some football player in high school. And that had ended in disaster.
“What? Oh. Just talking to Clayton,” you told him. He frowned slightly at your answer. When he’d asked you to show him around, he hadn’t thought you’d continue to talk to Clayton, especially once he went home for the summer. According to the message you had just gotten, he was due back in a couple days and you were genuinely excited to see him. You tried to ignore the butterflies you got when you thought about it. Clayton was your friend, nothing more. You didn’t want to make it weird.
“Since when are you two friends?” Auston questioned, his tone laced with annoyance. You raised an eyebrow. After all, it had been his idea for you to show Clayton around.
“Since you asked me to show him around,” you replied, before grabbing a handful of the popcorn that sat between you and your best friend.  The credits of the film were rolling and you took the opportunity to put some distance between you and Auston and get away from his interrogation. You went to get more water and Auston followed you.
“You like him,” Auston said, sounding so sure of himself.
“Auston, it’s not like that,” you told him as you filled your glass up. You took a sip, watching as Auston shook his head.
“Y/N, I’ve known you long enough to know when you’ve got it bad for someone,” he said.
“Honestly, Aus, it’s nothing. We’re friends. I thought that’s what you wanted,” you said. He sighed.
“I’m happy you two are getting along. I just don’t want to see you hurt,” he said, his voice growing softer. Auston was like a brother to you. He was protective of you and had been since you were kids.
“Alright Matthews, enough about Clayton. What’d you think of the movie?” you asked. His expression turned to one of disgust.
“It wasn’t scary but it was fucking horrifying. Please never make me watch it again,” he replied. You laughed. You decided not to tell him about the sequel just yet. You’d save that for the next time he pissed you off before movie night.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
September arrived and with it, so did Clayton. You two fell into an easy routine of hanging out when he wasn’t busy with the pre-season. You were hanging out, just catching up, when it happened. You weren’t sure who initiated the first kiss, but it was heated. The two of you broke apart just long enough for him to speak.
“You sure you wanna do this?” he asked.
“Yeah,” you replied. And with that, you took him by the hand and led him down the hall to your room.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The summer had faded into the fall as October arrived, bringing the regular season with it. You tried to tell yourself it was just the start of the regular season that was the reason for Clayton’s absence from your life. But you knew that wasn’t the truth.  After that night, you got sporadic responses and the only Snaps you got were to maintain the streak. And that hurt. You should have known hooking up with him would change things. Should have seen it coming. You had done the one thing you promised yourself you wouldn’t when Auston introduced you. You caught feelings.
You were at a Starbucks when you saw him. You had been working on a paper for class. He froze when he saw you. You had a choice in that moment, either ignore him and pretend you didn’t see him or acknowledge him. You sighed, running a hand through your hair before offering up a weak smile and a wave. He just nodded at you, before grabbing his order and leaving. You felt your heartbreak a little more.
The next time you saw him, you were trying not to cry. Jason, the cute guy from your Western Civilizations class, had asked you out on a date. You two had been talking for a couple weeks. It was December now, and the semester was rapidly coming to an end. He had stood you up and now you were sat alone at a table for two. Clayton had walked in with some of his teammates. But when he saw you, he sent them ahead to the table that was waiting for them.
“Y/N?” he asked. You turned to see him, your eyes meeting his.
“Clayton, hey,” you said, your voice breaking a little. You were surprised when he sat down across from you.
“What are you doing here? Wait...stupid question,” he said, taking note of your appearance. You’d spent more time getting ready for this date than you would have cared to admit.
“Getting stood up, apparently,” you grumbled. The smile he’d had on his face fell.
“Who would stand you up?” he asked, as if he couldn’t believe someone would stand you up. You just shrugged.
“A guy from my history class...it...it doesn’t matter. I should just go,” you said. You moved to stand up. As you did so, Clayton placed his hand over yours.
“Or...we could have dinner and I can make up for being a terrible friend the last couple months?” he said, unsure of what your answer would be.
“Yeah?” you asked with a small smile.
“Yeah, my treat,” he said.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You and Clayton fell back into an easy routine. It was like what had happened all those months ago had never happened at all. You had missed hanging out with him. You had quickly become a regular at the home games. You and Clayton spent a lot of your free time together. Where one went, you would probably find the other.
“Dude this is the third time this week I’ve come over and your dirty socks are still all over the floor,” you said when you walked into Clayton’s place.
“It’s been a long week,” he grumbled. You sighed. You started picking up the living room and he just stared at you. Clayton had become one of your best friends and you had finally had enough of the mess in his living room.
“What?” you asked. He just shook his head.
“Nothing, nothing. Let me help you since it is my mess,” he said, getting up off the couch. You tossed a sock at him, hitting him square in the face. The two of you joked around as you cleaned. It was nice just spending time with him. But you found yourself wondering if you would ever be more. You still hadn’t been able to get that night out of your head, no matter how much you tried. You had gone on a couple dates here and there but they weren’t Clayton. None of the guys you had gone out with made you feel the way he did and there was no way around it. You were undoubtedly falling for him hard.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the end of February, his mother came to town. You had never met any of his family before, and for some reason, you were nervous. We’re just friends, you told yourself. Friends didn’t get nervous about meeting family. Friends didn’t feel like their heart was going to jump out of their chest at the thought of meeting parents. And your feelings for Clayton? They were still strong as ever.
You were put at ease after your first meeting with her. And there was the bonus of getting embarrassing childhood stories about Clayton. The Coyotes had a decent stretch of home games, which meant more time to spend with Clayton. With his mom in town though, you planned to let him spend time with family.
A few days into her visit though, you were back at Clayton’s for your regularly scheduled movie night. You had gotten up to use the restroom. When you came back, you paused when you heard your name. Sure, eavesdropping was wrong, but you couldn’t help yourself when they were talking about you.
“I know that look on your face,” Clayton’s mom said to him.
“What look?” he asked her.
“You’re in love with her. And if I’m right, she’s feeling the same way about you. If you keep her waiting too long, someone else will come along and sweep her off her feet,” she said. You decided to make your presence known as you walked back into the room, pretending to be reading something on your phone.
“Popcorn ready?” you asked.
“Yeah, extra butter,” Clayton said. You smiled.
“You know me so well,” you told him as you sat down next to him. His mother looked between the two of you and excused herself to head to bed. You found yourself falling asleep with your head on his shoulder. It was getting late.
“Hey sleepy, why don’t you just stay here tonight,” Clayton said. You yawned as you sat up.
“If you want me to stay, then get off my bed,” you grumbled. Clayton laughed.
“You take my bed,” he told you. You shook your head.
“Between the two of us, only one of us is a professional athlete,” you said.
“One night on the couch won’t kill me,” he said.
“I don’t know, I hear the monsters under the couch are even worse than the monsters under the bed,” you joked.
“More of a reason for you to take the bed,” he replied. You looked at each other and lost it laughing. It hadn’t even been that funny but the two of you were crying with laughter. When you finally calmed down, Clayton looked at you.
“You know...we could always just share,” he pointed out.
“We could...just...don’t be a blanket hog and we’ll be fine,” you said.
“According to Auston, it’s you who’s a blanket hog,” he said. His words made you pause. He talked to Auston about you. He talked to Auston about you. You tried not to let it get your hopes up.
“So, you uh, you talk to Auston about me a lot?” you asked. Clayton’s cheeks tinged pink.
“I...well, yeah,” he said, not entirely sure how to respond.
“You do that often?” you questioned.
“Every once in a while,” he replied. There was a strange tension in the air. You weren’t sure what it was. You stood up, setting the popcorn bowl on the table. You decided to head towards his room, wanting to escape the feeling that had set in the room. You grabbed a pair of his sweatpants, heading to his bathroom to change. You had no reservations about borrowing his clothes. There had been plenty of nights that you ended up crashing at his place that it became expected. You even had an emergency toothbrush in his bathroom. The only thing missing from the scene was the two of you being anything more than friends.
You headed back into his room, pulling the covers back before laying down. A few minutes later, Clayton joined you. You didn’t talk. You were scared to, if you were being honest. But you were curious.
“So...why do you talk to Auston about me?” you asked him, breaking the silence.
“He asks how you’re doing. And sometimes you just come up. It’s no big deal,” he said.
“Does he know?” you asked, bringing up the one topic you had avoided for months. Clayton was quiet for a minute.
“No...I think he’d kill me for that,” he said. You let out a shaky laugh.
“Why did you stop talking to me after we hooked up? And don’t say you didn’t stop talking to me. Snapping me once a day to keep a streak alive isn’t talking,” you challenged. He sighed.
“Would you believe me if I said I got scared? You’re one of Auston’s best friends. If we were together and things didn’t work out--,” you cut him off.
“It would have nothing to do with Auston. I’m my own person. Yeah, he’s my best friend and he introduced him but do you honestly think he has any say in who I do or don’t date?” you asked him.
“Y/N,” he started to say. You sat up and looked at him, thankful the lamp on his bedside table was still on.
“I like you Clayton. Like, I want to go on dates and be with you, be your girlfriend, kind of like you,” you said. For once, you had the confidence to lay it on the line.
“I’ve wanted that since we met. But you were, are, off limits,” he said.
“Says who? Auston? Bro code?” you asked.
“You’re Auston’s best friend. He’s one of my friends,” he said.
“So then if we make it and go the distance he can say he’s the one who introduced us. If you like me and I like you, well, one plus one equals two, maybe, just maybe we should give it a try? Not let your worries about Auston maybe being upset with both of us get in the way?” you asked.
“Yeah?” he asked.
“Yeah,” you said. You weren’t expecting the kiss, but you leaned into it nonetheless.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You woke up the next morning to find yourself tangled up with Clayton, your head on his chest and his arm thrown over you. He was already awake.
“Morning beautiful,” he said. And you smiled.
It was a couple months later, just before playoffs, that you mentioned it to Auston. You had made an offhanded comment when you were talking about plans for the summer, after playoffs. The Leafs were in, the Coyotes weren’t.
“Wait, back that up a few sentences, Y/N. You and Clayton are what?” he asked.
“We’re dating? Have been since February? Keep up Matthews, god,” you said jokingly, rolling your eyes.
“When? What? How? Why? Why didn’t anyone tell me?” he asked.
“To be fair, I did tell you I had a new boyfriend,” you said.
“You never said it was Clayton. Damn it, now I owe Mitch,” he said.
“You...you bet on Clayton and I getting together?” you asked. He just gave you a look through the screen that seemed to say he was tired of your bullshit.
“Y/N, I swear to god, if I had to hear one more comment from one of you about the other, next time I was in town I was going to lock the two of you in a closet,” he said. You just laughed. After you ended the call with him, you saw you had a new notification. Clayton had tagged you in post on Instagram.
You were excited for what the summer had in store. You smiled when you looked up and saw Clayton had walked in.
“Ready to hit the road?” he asked. You stood up, slipping your sunglasses on before taking his hand as the two of you headed out on a summer roadtrip.

My son the global pop star? Olly Alexander's mum Vicki Thornton talks about growing up gay in Gloucestershire, Gogglebox and Glastonbury
Olly Alexander's mum speaks candidly about being mother of the flamboyant Years and Years frontman
Watching Vicki Thornton on the Celebrity Gogglebox sofa it would be easy to imagine that having a famous child is an easy passport to the good life.
Every Friday night for weeks the Forest of Dean mum-of-two has been on TV  sipping Prosecco while commenting on TV programmes with son Olly Alexander, the flamboyant frontman with the chart-topping band Years & Years.
On the face of it it’s been a charmed motherhood. First she watched the talented young man leave college to succeed as an actor, treading the boards as Peter Pan in a play with Judi Dench and appearing in movies such as Gulliver’s Travels, The Riot Club and Great Expectations.
Within a few years he appeared to seamlessly achieve global musical success with a chart-topping band and which led to a much applauded appearance on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival 2019. This weekend he is appearing on the same stage as Ariana Grande at Manchester Pride.
Yet anybody who follows Olly knows it’s not all been red carpet premieres,  backstage passes and Gogglebox for Vicky, it’s also been about hearing uncomfortable truths about a son who has used his growing success as a platform to publicly campaign for LGBT rights.
Growing Up Gay
Not only has she had to listen to how he secretly self-harmed and developed bulimia as a closet gay teenager growing up in the Forest of Dean, but in 2017 she also bravely agreed to appear in an an emotional BBC Three documentary about how it can lead to mental health issues.
In Growing Up Gay Olly admitted that just driving home back to sleepy Coleford with the film crew stirred up such painful memories that it made him feel physically sick.
If that wasn’t difficult enough to hear, Vicki learned that Olly, who attended St  John’s Cof E Primary School in Coleford and Monmouth Comprehensive, had been unable to tell anyone that he was being bullied from a young age because he had long hair and seemed gay.
“When he asked if I would do the documentary, it was a bit of a decision to make because I knew it would mean digging up the past and going further into the reasons for the problem,”  said community artist Vicki.
“ I knew that having to face up to issues  I was not aware of at the time was going to be a very difficult process, but if it was going to help Olly and other people in similar situations I had to do it.
“I had to be  open and honest about everything which meant confronting my own feelings of guilt. You have to openly accept that you may have made some bad choices and decisions but you are human. It’s not about making excuses, it’s about learning from your mistakes.”
The documentary was so painful that the producers had Vicki assessed psychologically to make sure she could deal with the deeply personal issues it raised and arranged for her to have counselling beforehand.
Still a much watched video on iPlayer, it shows them sifting through photographs and videos of what his mum thought was a happy, innocent childhood on a beautiful part of the world.
“Going through the family history you see all these little happy, innocent little faces” said Vicky who also has an older son who has aspergers syndrome. “It’s terrible to think somebody could be hurting them.
“I think the bullying was mostly mental but when someone is full of joy and happiness and somebody else comes along and closes that down, it is the saddest thing.
“As parents you think you know what’s going on, you think that they are safe, they are happy, they are fed, all the boxes are ticked. But you don’t know the half of it.
“The  little things I heard about what happened to Olly that he and his brother have talked about, are awful.”
Everyone thinks their child is amazing but I knew Olly was special
Community artist Vicki said she knew “in her bones” even before Olly, 29, was born that he would go on do great things.
“Every mother thinks that, and every child is amazing, but I knew that this child was different, there was something there,” she said.
“Olly was always a bright, funny, happy child, full of life. He was such a bouncy, lovely little cherub  that I could never get cross with him,  ever.
“On the rare occasion that he would throw a tantrum I would find it funny and just laugh at him. He would just stand and scream blue murder and it was just hilarious.”
Life in the Forest of Dean
Their early days were spent living near theme parks that his father promoted but in 1997 the family moved to the Forest of Dean where his parents set about creating a model village tourist attraction.
It was a musical, creative, left leaning household and although he loves Rihanna, and famously met the singer on the Graham Norton show,  Olly, credits much of his influences to listening to his mother’s tapes of Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell and Stevie Wonder. She was one of the founders of the local music festival where Olly cut his teeth.
“I used to be a puppeteer actor in an education travelling theatre company in the late 1980s," said Vicky when asked about her bohemian background.
“When I was younger I was also a backing singer in a band called Innamanna. We played the Marquee in London and did some recording but when we had to decide ‘do we stick with this or carry on with our careers?’ it folded.
"But I couldn’t stand on a stage in front of thousands of people like Olly does. I would die.”
Olly as a boy
It was clear that Olly had inherited her artistic streak and although a talented gymnast and able academic, he concentrated on music and drama, later saying it was because he felt at home with the weird kids.
Vicki remembers him being very driven, open minded and very focussed.
“Olly taught himself to play the piano and to sing and there was always a healthy competition with his best friend Joe to get the best parts in the school plays,” recalled Vicki
“He was always singing all over the house.  He loved Disney and he would get old song books full of the classics and teach himself on the piano.
“He did not want to be in musicals but loved the singing and performance side of it.”
I did not realise there was so much pain going on inside.
In the documentary the talented singer songwriter says that  he did not have the vocabulary to put how he was feeling into words and  felt too ashamed to admit it anybody he was gay. Even his mother. He desperately wanted to be straight so he never admitted it.
“On the surface he was a real high achiever so I  had no idea there was so much starting to bubble up as a young teenager,” said Vicki.
“I thought the sky was the limit for him. I thought he could do anything he could put his mind to but I did not realise there was so much pain going on inside.”
“Because he was always fun happy, smiley,  lovely child achieving lots of things at school, I thought things were fine.
“Probably my eye was  off the ball because I was going through a lot of life changes at the time and maybe I was in denial that there was something going wrong.”
Marriage split
In an interview last year with the former Labour spin doctor Alastair Campbell, Olly says his diaries show a clear link between his father leaving and creating a “family implosion” and his mental health health issues developing around he age of 13.
They are estranged but met up when his father contacted Olly through Twitter and in subsequent interviews it’s clear the singer was less than impressed with the reality as opposed to the imagined version of an aspiring musician father who he had always wanted to impress.
“Splitting up with their dad made life a lot harder, definitely financially, and so life was a big struggle,” said Vicki.
“That’s probably part of the reason why I had my eye off the ball. I was distracted doing other things, so we were a bit dysfunctional or a while, which I feel guilty about.
“But I don’t feel guilty about that relationship ending at all, both for the boys and myself.”
Coming out
She says although from the outside it looked like Olly was enjoying a glittering lifestyle after leaving sixth form college to travel abroad filming the movie Summerhill, he was often penniless and had to take jobs such as selling hot dogs on the South Bank in between the contracts. She wasn’t in a position to help pay the rent either.
He was 18 or 19 and involved in the gay party scene in London when he plucked up the courage to pick up the phone and tell her outright that he was gay.
Vicki said: “He had said to me once ‘I don’t think you are going to have any grandchildren’. Not taking the hint, I said ‘well never say never’.
“He obviously got to the point where he thought ‘I’d better actually say it to mum because she doesn’t get it’.
“He phoned me up and said ‘you do know I am gay don’t you?’ . I said ‘Are you? OK’ and that was it really. I suppose I had a feeling he might be but maybe I didn’t want to confirm that because of fear about what his life might become because of all the homophobia out there.”
Vicky told told her elderly mother,  who sang on Broadway with the D’ Oyly opera company before cutting her career short to get married and have a family.
“Her immediate reaction was ‘but he will not be able to go to Africa, it’s illegal in Africa’, laughed Vicky about her 89-year-old mother who follows her grandson avidly on social media and has even seen Years & Years in concert.
“Like me, she doesn’t want to see him marginalised because marginalised sections of society can  attract a lot of negative behaviour. Nobody wants to see their nearest and dearest suffer from that.”
I just hope kids today aren’t going through the same thing
From that moment on Vicky has worried about her son being the victim of homophobia and although she is intensely proud, she still fears that being a figurehead for equality could make him a target.
“I wish he felt he could have talked  to me and maybe I could have prevented all of that, but I understand that is very difficult for young people,” she said.
“I remember that feeling of not being able to talk to my parents  and I just hope kids today aren’t going through the same thing. They get more support at school than they did 15 years ago but bullying and social media trolling still happens.
“I do worry about him being exposed to bigotry and homophobia. it’s not nice to think about your child living in fear.”
In an interview last year Olly was asked if he ever wanted to confront the bullies who made his life miserable growing up but he said he doesn’t think about it much any more because his life had changed so much.
He said he still takes anti-depressants, has weekly therapy sessions and works out a lot to keep his mental and physical health on track.
While campaigning for more to be done to prevent male suicide after being named as GQ Man of the Year,  he admitted he still has occasional days when he doesn’t want to get out of bed because his life does not feel worth living and can be too frightened to go on stage, or cries when he comes off. He hides behind outlandish costumes and make up.
The fun side of having a famous son
It's clear that there is a close bond between mother and son and Olly likes her to share in his successes.
For instance in the early days the pop star  arranged for her to wear an expensive diamond necklace to the red carpet premiere of Great Expectations in which he played Herbert Pocket.
“It was insane,” said Vicki. “ We had taxi from where he lived to the red carpet and there was all these people at the barriers.
“I thought they are going to be so disappointed when I get out because I’m no-one. Somebody took me to one side while Olly went off to meet the paparazzi and because it was raining they put a brolly over my head.
“Then we went in and watched the film which was mind-blowing because I was sat next to some of the actor’s. When it was finished we went to the after-party which was all very very glam.”
Naturally shy, Vicky was overawed to meet the likes of Jeremy Irvine, who starred in War Horse.
“I was quite overwhelmed by it all at first but I have got more relaxed about being in that kind of environment,” she said.
“The whole thing is a bit surreal really. It’s a bit  like a film in itself. Once I was this close to Helen Bonham Carter who I think is fantastic, but you don’t want to go up to people saying ‘I love you’.
“Olly told me once, that when they started filming he actually said to her ‘I love you Helen Bonham Carter’ and and she said ‘I would love you too if I knew who you were’, but she later came to the stage door to congratulate him after Alice and Peter.”
More recently Vicky was overwhelmed when she was introduced the men from one of her favourite TV programmes, the Netflix series Queer Eye, at Radio One’s Big Weekend in Swansea.
“I love watching them but when Olly introduced me I didn’t know what to say and was stuck for words because I get so tongue tied,” she admitted.
Gogglebox
The star is protective of Vickyi who does not even like speaking on the stage at Coleford Music Festival but told her it was time for her to come out of her shell for Gogglebox.
“It’s different because there isn’t anybody else in the room and it’s all about Olly because that’s who they are interested in,” she said of the TV show.
“It feels really nice sitting there together eating snacks, drinking Prosecco and enjoying each other’s company, but I don’t think I have anything really  interesting to say.
“You are thinking ‘should I be on my best behaviour because I’m on tele or should I be like I am at home?’. There is a little conflict going on in your head but it’s really good fun.
“It’s weird watching yourself back,  seeing what you do, what you sound like and the faces you pull. I didn’t realise I pulled so many weird faces.”
Every week she has to decide on a comfortable top for sitting on the  sofa and says they did initially consider getting matching onesies and really mad slippers but decided against it.
She shares TV tastes with her son who loves programmes such as Killing Eve and Stranger Things and Fleabag. They also love Gogglebox, especially Rylan Clark Neal and his mother and Chris Eubank and his son. She was delighted when Rylan sent a lovely message to Olly about her.
“If Olly likes something I will give it a go because I know I will probably like it,” she says. “I would never have watched Love Island if Olly hadn’t watched it. “
Staying true to yourself
Before the Years and Years single Communion catapulted the band into into the charts, Vicky had another important phone call from the Shine singer.
“He said they didn’t want him to say he was gay and he was really cross about it because didn’t want to pretend to be something he wasn’t” she said.
“I told him to stick to his guns, that you have to be true to yourself for anything to be real. I have taught them that if they are kind, truthful and respectful to other people, everything else will follow.”
Olly took her advice and when she first went to Glastonbury to see him burst onto the John Peel stage in 2015 wearing a rainbow, Pride suit he was involved in a very public relationship with Neil Milan from Clean Bandit who were playing the Pyramid stage.
Although in  pop star mode he is happy to speak openly about his own sexuality and  ongoing struggles with anxiety, Olly also admits that the fairytale of fame and fortune has not proved the antidote to depression and he remains a leading advocate for mental health issues.
In fact Gay Times described him as one of the most influential gay pop stars of this generation and added: "All hail the King!”
Glastonbury 2019
Vicky was astounded by how big it has become since the days she used to go and got lost for hours on the first night after deciding to camp for the weekend.
On Sunday Olly arranged for Vicky, her partner Kev and Coleford Mayor Nick Penny to go backstage and then watch from the Pyramid Stage balcony as he gave a widely-applauded, eloquent moving speech marking the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots.
Many say the speech appealing for compassion and a society that does not leave anybody behind was the highlight of the festival.
“It’s not the best view because you cannot see what’s happening from the front, but just to be there looking  out from the stage and seeing all those thousands and thousands of people who are all there to see Years and Years and Olly, well it was just mesmerising,” she said.
“That whole feeling of emotion, the pride, It’s like when you see your child in a nativity play but  a million times over.
“I knew he was going to make a speech and I knew that knowing Olly it was going to be special, but I did not  did not know the content or when he was going to say it.
“I was just so proud and when I got home I had to watch it over and over again.”
“I cannot believe how brave and strong Olly is about what he believes in. I admire that in him so much and have so much respect for him to be able to do that.”
The feeling is mutual and Olly has repeatedly spoken about how proud he was of his mum to speak so openly about his childhood in the documentary even though she is not to blame for his troubles.
Olly takes care of his family
Although he spends long periods touring with the band, when he is in London Olly has a small set of friends from home who he has known since primary school which Vickis believes it is good for his sanity.
He recently spoke about how good it has been going from being too skint to go out to be able to help his family out financially and pay for the drinks on a night out.
Thanks to Olly buying her a new house Vicky has moved from the small cottage in the centre of Coleford where she would get the odd knock on the door from Years and Years fans pretending to be looking for a non existent neighbour.
Speaking to her it’s clear that have a famous child is not too much different than having any other. You always feel guilty, you are very proud of their achievements, you want them to happy, you worry about them being safe and you lose your name. At one festival she spotted a flag saying “Olly’s Mum”, something parents all over the world can identify with.
“As a parent I think you always feel guilty, but  I’m proud that Olly has grown into this amazing human being,” says Vicki who has been on a journey alongside her famous son.
“It’s such an amazing thing to have happened that to try and get your head around it all is impossible, so you don’t bother.
“Lots of people ask about him and say things like  – ‘your boy’s doing well’ and I think ‘just a bit’. On the whole though, life just carries on as normal.”

Top 5 summer destinations
Tumblr media
The summer months are just around the corner and you know how much we like to travel and meet WowTrippers new destinations. So, we want to introduce you to our top 5 summer destinations! Whether you are planning a getaway with friends or want to spend a summer vacation with your family, here are 5 summer destinations that you will definitely enjoy. Dubrovnik - A Journey Through Time to the Middle Ages The first of our top 5 summer destinations is Dubrovnik, a medieval-style city in the southern part of Croatia on the Adriatic coast. Neither beach lovers nor culture enthusiasts will live here with a desire to do tourism. If you like to spend your free time at the beach, Dubrovnik offers you beautiful sandy and pebbled beaches surrounded by crystal blue waters and pine forests. Here you can relax and enjoy the warm Mediterranean air. You will also get great views of the old city fort. This brings us to the best places in Dubrovnik; that you should not miss, such as in the old city itself.Whereas declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO forty years ago.
Tumblr media
Why UNESCO made this decision You will know when you enter from the Pile Gate and enjoy the indescribable medieval atmosphere created by the small labyrinthine lanes. The atmosphere resembles a real-time voyage of the Middle Ages and Renaissance with its ancient fortress, Franciscan monastery, and a wall about two thousand meters long that protects the old city. Dubrovnik is the center of attraction for fans of the famous series "Game of Thrones". If you are a big fan of George RR Martin's history, we recommend that you join one of the organized tours. They will show you all the hidden places and corners of the city and uncover some of the series' little secrets. Speaking of mysteries, have you heard about the curse of Lokram Island? If supernatural is not your thing, please head straight to the next destination for this summer on our list. If you are passionate about darkness, read … The small island of Lokram is not far from the old city. This can be reached by boat. There are remains of antiquity for the voyage, including an old Benedictine monastery. According to legend, fiery monks cursed the island 700 years ago. The people of Dubrovnik are convinced of magical power. So the mysterious island is completely uninhabited. If you dare to see it; keep in mind that you must have left before 9pm. This is the mandatory rule you must follow if you do not want to fall into the terrible curse and know the wrath of the monks.
Tumblr media
Palma de Mallorca - Paradise Beach vs. Creepy Dragon One popular destination that should be among our top 5 summer destinations is Palma de Mallorca. It is the largest of the five Balearic islands of the Mediterranean Sea. Enjoy your time at the many unique beaches in Palma de Mallorca, which have nothing to envy some Caribbean beaches. In addition, you can relax and give yourself a refreshing beer; or fruit cocktail at nearby beach bars or within the beaches. Palma de Mallorca has a lot for culture lovers. When you have traveled to its old city and visited its church. Then we recommend a special view of El Castel de Belver. It is a palace of the Middle Ages, which serves as a residence and patronage for King Jaume I. The palace itself is a small world. It is situated in the middle of a cedar forest at an altitude of about 110 meters. That offers an impressive view of the harbor and the city of Palma de Mallorca. The nostalgic position and great scenery are not only the castel de belver's peculiarities; but also the palace. Its spherical shape means that there is no other similar throughout Europe, which makes the palace a unique example. If you are interested in the history of Palma de Mallorca. You are lucky because here you will find a museum of the history of the city. Palma de Mallorca also has its own dragon. "El Draque de non Coca", which lived in the sewers of the city in the seventeenth century. It is said that the dragon killed many people; until he encountered the brave knight Bartomo Coco, who killed him without hesitation. Confirmed by several sources, this story actually happened. What do you think Is there any truth to that? Stop doubting visiting the Diocesan Museum, where you can find the remains of the mysterious dragon.
Tumblr media
Catania - the perfect getaway for Sicily Catania is one of the top 5 summer destinations that would really be worth visiting on these holidays. It is located on the eastern coast of Sicily. The city has not yet been invaded by mass tourism. Therefore, it is still considered a special recommendation for those; who wish to discover an impressive historical city. Here you can chill with a delicious pistachio ice cream at Piazza del Duomo and enjoy the authenticity Catania has the shortest metro line in the world with only seven stations. In our stunning trips as WowTrippers we love keen means of transportation, we recommend that you use this quiet means to get to know the city and surrounding areas. What we recommend on your summer vacation and what you really shouldn't leave in Catania is Etna. It is the largest active volcano in Europe, with eruptions nearly every year, and offers a show you will never forget. You can take the cable car to the top or go for a walk. The best option is to take a guided tour, so you will not only be sure, but you will also get lots of interesting information and exclusive advice from an expert. If you are fond of trekking, you can book a special excursion on top of a 3.323 meter high volcano. You will have an impressive view of all of Sicily and you can clearly feel the volcanic activity and have a look at the crater and lava caves. Since the volcano is always active, you can get lucky and see the real lava, An ancient legend from the time of the ancient gods speaks of Hephaestus, who marries the beautiful Aphrodite. Every time he believed his wife to be unfaithful, anger and jealousy blinded him and caused his smiley fire to grow so much that he angered Etna. What do you think, WowTripper? Would you dare to climb Etna to see this natural spectacle? Top Destination Summer Catania
Tumblr media
Mykonos - Summer destination for party and beach holidays Mykonos Cycladic island is located in the Aegean Sea and is one of the most famous Greek islands. According to legend, Heracles threw twelve giants into the sea, which were set in stone and became islands, including Mykonos. Although it is very popular and visited by many tourists, we continue to recommend Mykonos as one of the top 5 summer destinations. In that place, you can relax on the beach and forget about your daily life. Paradise Beach and Super Paradise Beach are the most famous beaches on the island and are named after them. You will feel in heaven with a cocktail in your hand. If you too like a party, then you have come to the right place. Mykonos is one of the most popular party destinations and has so many discos that it will take you a week to see them all. When you are tired of the beach, you can take a walk in typical Greek alleys with their white houses and blue doors. Don't miss the curious Panagia Paraportiani Church, which actually has five independent chapels and is in danger of collapsing due to its asymmetry. The quiet side of Mykonos can be explored in the famous Cato Milli windmills, from which you can have a beautiful view of the city. Here you can not miss taking a selfie! A curious history of the city that we would like you to know is dedicated to the Mykonos mascot: Petros, the Pelicans. The bird was found badly injured in 1958 by a fisherman who escaped and cared for it until he recovered. Petros remained loyal to his fisherman and the city and was soon named an absolute favorite of Mykonos. Since then he moved independently from the old city. Okay, we accept it … It's not the same Petros of 1958! Nevertheless, the replacement continues to run through petro alleys. If you find it during your vacation, taking pictures is a must! You can find cheapest tickets on this portal with niche comparison. Ajiaco - land of Napoleon The final destination of our top 5 summer destinations is the capital of Corsica: Ajiaco. Ajaccio's beaches are amazing and invite you for a relaxing and refreshing beach day. We recommend the Bay of Porticcio, where you can admire a historic watchtower that is perfect for exposing your photographer skills and immortalizing the moment.
Tumblr media
If you want to explore a quiet and relaxing Corsica island, we recommend you take an adventurous excursion along the Corsica Railway. Start in Ajiaco and take you through the beauty valleys, bays and mountains of the island. A different experience that you will tell your friends and acquaintances! If you still don't know, Ajaccio is the place where Napoleon Bonaparte was born in 1769. The inhabitants of Ajaccio and Corsica ordinarily regard their famous emperor and celebrate it with enthusiasm. Allow yourself to get infected by this boom and take a search journey through the old city of Ajiaco. Go to "Maison Bonaparte", the house in which Napoleon was raised. We recommend the audio guide, which will tell you many interesting anecdotes about Napoleon's life. The Place Dusterlitz Monument is a huge granite statue that recalls the city's statue. As a child, under a granite rock, he is said to have loved reading books of historical heroes like Alexander the Great. And this is not the only monument discovered in Ajashio. This summer destination has hidden many monuments and statues in your city. Read the full article

The 19.13 Towards Walthamstow Central
Q moves to London and falls in love with a stranger on the tube.
Read below
Q sat down on the tube for the first time, his backpack hugged to his chest and fingers fiddling about inside of it, looking for his book. He had decided upon Julius Caesar, one of his favourite Shakespeare plays, as his tube distraction, hoping that a good book would stop him from panicking about how tightly confined he was, or the fact he could get trapped underground for hours. He had never been the biggest fans of trains, hating how rattly they were and how massive the gap between the train and the platform was. So putting them underneath London with no quick route of escape was hardly his dream; but he had to get from Pimlico to Islington somehow. And the buses? Well, they were just ten times worse; far too slow and far too loud. At least most people had the courtesy to be silent on the tube.
He blinked back his grey thoughts and then looked around him, eyeing up where the exits were in case he had to dart out of the carriage at some point, and then the people surrounding him. There was a young family sat just inside the double doors with Hamleys and M&M’s World bags, a young couple sat kissing and cuddling beside them and directly opposite him a man in a dark suit with icy blue eyes and a small frown on his thin lips. The stranger made Q feel slightly on edge, their eyes connecting for a few seconds before Q shuffled about uncomfortably and then looked down at his book, trying to hide himself behind his backpack and away from the cold eyes of the man in front of him. Q was incredibly glad when he got off at Islington and hurried back to his flat, happy to be in the comfort of his own home for another evening.
The following week, when Q got onto the tube with a frown on his face and a copy of the Evening Standard tucked under his arm, the same steel eyed stranger was sat opposite him. He made Q jump at first but he soon settled down when the stranger gave him a small smile, Q feeling his cheeks heat up at the way the man looked at him. The man opposite him was beginning to distract him from his book, the young man finding himself distracted by the way he was muttering to himself and fiddling with a wire trailing along the curve of his thin ear. Q raised an eyebrow at the sight, trying his best to ignore what he was saying and instead on what Brutus was doing. He was almost glad when he got off the tube, but felt incredibly intrigued by the stranger and his little earpiece.
The following Wednesday, Q got onto the tube with his obnoxiously large bouquet of flowers from Eve and his beanie pulled over his mess of fluffy hair. He sat down and then smiled to himself when he realised the silver fox was sat opposite him once again. He gave Q a smirk and a nod before looking back to the pieces of paper on his lap, Q then getting his new book from his bag, having decided on The Crucible, the book Eve had bought him for his birthday. He looked down to his “30 today” badge with a smile and then back to his book, his excitement for his birthday night out already bubbling in his stomach. He looked up when he could feel someone looking at him, noticing the stranger looking him up and down.
“Happy birthday.” He said and Q could feel his cheeks heating up at his mere words. He whispered a small thank you in return and then looked back to his book, not really focusing on the words and instead over analyzing everything about the handsome stranger, swallowing roughly and bringing furiously when his mind wandered to somewhat inappropriate thoughts about his long fingers and large hands. He shifted the flowers and his bag so they covered his crotch slightly better and then wished away the rest of the twenty minute journey back home.
The fourth Wednesday brought with it a surprise. The same, handsome man was now sat in the seat next to where Q normally sat, rather than his usual seat opposite which remained empty. Hesitantly, Q sat down beside the older man and gave him a smile, then going to get his book from his backpack when he was presented with a piece of paper from the man beside him. He looked at it confusedly and then smiled, shaking his head with a smile.
I’m beginning to think this is a lot more than a nice coincidence. I’m James.
The scrawny handwriting read and Q got his own pen and notebook from his backpack, writing out a reply.
I’m glad I’m not the only one. You can call me Q.
He wrote and then presented it to the man, James, who then began to write on his piece of paper.
Are you busy tonight, Q?
Wrote James, making the younger man’s cheeks turn crimson once again, attracting a smirk from the man beside him who had been taking a few moments to admire the soft curves of his face. No.
I’m not. And before you ask, a drink would be delightful.
Q wrote out in his neatest script, James almost laughing to himself as he began to write down his reply. Q felt nothing short of elated that the man he had been ogling for the last man felt just the same way. He had never gotten a date in this way before but he was excited by it nonetheless.
As of yet, James hadn’t given him any indication that he was either a creep or a big shot looking for an obsessed stalker fan who just happened to know who Q was from his dribs and drabs of theatre work. He just seemed like a normal man who worked for some important corporation and was required to wear an earpiece and chest microphone at all times. (That Q had noticed the week before when James’ top buttons had been undone and his tie loosened. He had had one similar to it when he had performed at the Globe.) He was hardly going to pry because after all, it was none of his business.
I was actually going to suggest dinner, but a drink sounds delightful. I know a nice bar in Islington we could visit; text me and I’ll send you the address.
Below was James’s number and Q almost let out a little cheer of excitement at the acquisition of his mobile number but managed to remain calm and composed, at least he thought he had. He got his phone from his bag and tapped the number into his contacts, then sending a text to the new number. He gave James a small smile and slid his notebook and pen back away as the other man got his phone from his jacket pocket and sent the address over to the younger man. Q did a quick Google search and found the bar, reading the consistent five star reviews and then flicking back to his messages.
Yeah, that’ll do just perfectly. See you at 9.30? Q
He sent to James who replied with a smiley face and then turned his attention back to whoever it was that was talking to him through his earpiece. Q slipped his phone away and then got his book back out, once again immersing himself in the tale.
He got off at his usual stop and James offered him a nod to say goodbye. He was in high spirits as he skipped through the busy Islington high street and then to his flat, greeting his cats with an enthusiastic pet and then made his way to the bedroom so he could put on something far more appropriate than his t-shirt and ripped jean ensemble. He decided on a navy and white floral shirt and black trousers, his cats meowing at him when he reappeared in the kitchen. He took that as a sign they liked what he was wearing too.
Q did feel a little hesitant when he left his flat just before nine, but he knew he had Eve on speed dial just in case; plus they would be around enough people that if he needed to shout something and make an escape, he would be able to. He gained a lot more confidence on the wall to the bar, his head held high and a small smile on his face as he walked, enjoying the feeling of the hot summer sun beating down on his face and bare arms. Q arrived at the bar just after half nine and went inside, looking around to see if he could see James. He couldn’t, so gave the waiter a smile and then sat down behind the bar, ordering himself a glass of white wine and then waiting patiently, keeping his phone on the countertop just in case his date messaged him.
When the clock struck eleven and Q had just finished his fourth glass of wine, he gave up hope of James appearing. He paid for his tab and then started the slow walk home, kicking the ground like an angry toddler. He knew it was all far too good to be true. He got home, had a bath, sent James a few angry text messages and then went to bed, his head already beginning to ache. Migraine; brilliant.
The following week, he got on the tube to find James’ seat occupied by a young woman with a baby perched on her lap. He sat down in his usual place and tried to think nothing of it, instead getting his book (this time a copy of Hamlet) out of his bag and read until he arrived at his stop. He walked home, backpack slung over his shoulder and a concerned frown on his face. He approached his front door, key in hand, only to find the door open by a crack. He paused, colour draining from his face, and then pushed it open slowly. He suddenly felt like he was in the middle of a terrible horror film and would be knifed through the back in mere seconds. He looked over his shoulder and then headed inside, looking around and jumping when Turing meowed at him. He reached down and scooped him up, petting his soft black fur and then looking around the rest of his flat.
When he got to the living room he paused, the door open by just a crack. He had been prepared and picked up a knife from the kitchen where he had put Turing, shutting the door behind him so the cat couldn’t escape. He pushed the door open and almost dropped the knife when he saw James sat on his sofa stroking Lovelace who was happily purring and nuzzling her face against the silver haired man. James looked over to the doorway and gave an awkward wave, Q still stunned into silence. James gently placed the cat down on the floor and stood, approaching Q and taking the knife from his stiff hand, putting it on the sideboard and then taking a step back.
“I wanted to apologise.” He said and Q could feel himself beginning to shake with a combination of fear and anger. He shook his head and scooped up Lovelace when she wandered near. Q pet his cat furiously, trying to calm himself down and pretend that James wasn’t there, that it was all a stupid dream but, when he looked back up, James was still looking at him. “For disappearing.” He continued and Q shook his head, looking around the dark room and trying to not focus his thoughts on the man before him.
“Please get out. Please leave. Please.” Q mumbled as he then turned to look at James. “I don’t want you here. Christ, you broke into my house! Get out!” He exclaimed and James held up his hands defensively as Q began to gently push him towards the door. The older man was soon opening the front door, light gushing into his dark flat and illuminating James’ face properly. Q noticed the long cut that stretched from the tip of his left ear to the corner of his mouth, still red and sore looking. There was a split down the center of his lip and another cut peeking out from the collar of his shirt. James stayed still, allowing Q to survey him before giving him a nod to say goodbye and shutting the door behind him.
Q took a few moments to think before he swore to himself and chased after Bond, eventually catching up with him and giving his wrist a gentle tug to get him to turn around. James’ eyes looked even bluer under the yellow light of the streetlights. He let out a shakey breath and then reached up to gently touch the area around the cut with the back of his fingers. James’ eyes shut and he let out a stifled groan of pain, making Q retract his fingers and apologise quietly.
“What happened?” asked Q, putting his thin hands into the pockets of his cardigan. James ran his fingertips over the warmth the backs of Q’s fingers had created. “Did someone hurt you? Is that what happened.” Slowly, James nodded. It wasn’t a lie in the slightest; he was called out as soon as he had gotten off of the tube and got on the first flight to Morocco. He should have texted Q, even thinking about him sat alone in that expensive bar made the agent’s chest feel weird.
“It’s nothing for you to worry about.” James replied before he looked back to Q’s flat, sighing sadly. “I shouldn’t have broken in. I’m sorry.” He added and Q shrugged with a small smirk.
“Don’t worry, it’s kind of hot.” He joked and James rolled his eyes, a small smile on his face as Q then looked back to his flat. “I’ll make you a cup of coffee.” He said and James shook his head, about to argue he had to leave, go somewhere to do something, when Q reached out to gently touch his bicep. “Please?” He sighed and James swallowed roughly.
“You’re too trusting, Q. Your kind nature could get you killed.” The agent pointed out, but this time it was Q’s turn to roll his eyes.
“You have an earpiece and chest microphone on at all times,” Q pointed out as James looked down to the little microphone just below his collar. “You get on at Vauxhall, and I know that because you definitely aren’t the Brixton type, so I think I can trust you, Mr SIS.” He said with a proud smirk and James rose an eyebrow in surprise. “See, not just a pretty face.” The younger man said with a grin before tugging James until he followed Q back to his flat.
Q knew that it was a silly, pathetic and frankly stupid idea to let the man who had broken into his flat back into his flat, but if his instincts were anything to go by, he would be safe with James around him. He made James a coffee and himself a tea and they sat in his living room, Lovelace sat on Bond’s lap and Turing on Q’s. The younger man couldn’t help but feel like a total prat for being so forgiving of the silver fox, but his stomach was already doing somersaults every time James looked at him, and that was enough to tell him the risk would be worth it.
James stayed the night, and to Q’s surprise, was still there in the morning when he woke up with still flushed cheeks and a slight waddle. It had been a while after all. Whilst the younger was showering, Bond had awoken and had started work on pancakes in the kitchen. He had even taken the time to give the cats a pouch of food, Q almost swooning when he popped his head into the kitchen, having smelt their breakfast. James greeted him with a peck to the cheek and a mug of hot tea which Q happily sipped, watching James cook in total awe. His stomach and heart were fluttering about fondly again and he soon found himself sat at the breakfast bar just so he didn’t collapse in complete adoration.
He was no longer angry at James for fiddling with his locks and had given his revenge by edging James a few too many times the night before, right to the point where James was almost crying. It was quite the sight and Q knew that James never cried. You only had to look at him to know that. He smirked at the thought and ran a hand through his soggy hair to get it out of his eyes before having another sip of hot tea. Perhaps James wasn’t what he had been expecting him to be; he was certainly already smashing his expectations.
On the sixth Wednesday, Q got on the 19.13 as he did every evening, and broke into a grin when he spotted James sat in the seat beside Q’s usual spot. They greeted each other with a kiss, and it took a full ninety seconds for the younger man to fall asleep on the agent’s shoulder. Each Wednesday stayed the same after that, Q falling asleep on James’s shoulder and simply basking in the agent’s warmth and security.
He didn’t bother bringing a book with him anymore.

It’s a Nice Day for a White Wedding (Chapter 3)
“Great work today, Beric,” his Evidence Professor smiled benignly at him. Beric beamed. “Gunner,” someone coughed behind him, and a number of the other students tittered. Beric tried not to let his shoulders drop. This was stupid, he was 24 years old, a law school student at the top of his class. What did he care what some douche bag students thought about him? It would have just been nice for law school to be different from college. Or college to have been different from high school. He sent a mental prayer to the universe that at some point this cliquey nonsense would end. When he got to the student lounge, he stopped to carefully post one of the flyers that Thoros had given him for his pub’s trivia night. He had finished stapling it to be perfectly offset against the neighboring help wanted poster at eye-level, and had taken a step back to admire it, when another group of students came in. “Oooh trivia night!” A bubbly 1L paused, no doubt attracted by the excellent placement of the flyer. Beric smiled. “Pfff that’s a townie bar,” one of the guys from earlier sneered. “You’ll get stabbed on the way home.” Beric frowned. He opened his mouth to firmly lecture them that the income disparity in Oldtown was one of the highest in the country and they should be more cognizant of the tremendous economic privileges they all enjoyed as students of the Citadel. And also his boyfriend was a bartender at that bar so shut the fuck up. Then he thought better of picking a fight with his classmates and shoved his hands in his pockets. 2L year was almost over. He just needed to stick this out for one more year and then he could join a district attorney’s office and crusade for the downtrodden and this would be a distant memory. Thoros was already at work when he got back to the apartment, so he cooked a quick dinner and ate it while slogging through his reading. Part of the problem with being a law student while Thoros was a bartender was that their schedules were almost completely out of sync. He went to classes at the Citadel all day, got home around six. Thoros’ shift was from 5pm to 2am. By the time Thoros stumbled home around 3, Beric was usually sound asleep. And good luck trying to wake Thoros up before 10. Basically it had taken a toll, because Beric had discovered that life without Thoros was boring, depressing, infinitely more irritating and definitely more sexually frustrating. So when he finished his outline for the Criminal Procedure reading, he tried to turn to Patent Litigation. And instead found himself wondering how trivia night was going. Maybe he should just stop by and check. If people were focused on the trivia, the actual bar might be relatively quiet. High Heart was run by a tiny woman who was impossibly old and quite crazy. Naturally she got along well with Thoros. Beric was not a huge fan, largely because she liked to address him as ‘Lord of Corpses’. A motorcycle crash in high school had left him with one eye, a fairly gruesome scar around his neck and several far more gruesome scars on his chest (which nobody ever saw but Thoros). Basically overnight he’d gone from being universally considered adorable, tall, dark blond hair, blue eyes, to being universally considered fairly alarming looking—gaunt, eye patch, etc. Lord of Corpses indeed. So thank you, shriveled little witch creature. Beric immediately felt guilty for thinking that about an elderly woman who didn’t seem to have much in the way of family aside from her granddaughter and resolved to try and be nicer to her. Fortunately his new resolution was not put to the test as he entered High Heart. Jenny (the granddaughter) was on duty and reading the trivia questions cheerfully into a microphone. Beric turned toward the bar. Pouring a pint of beer, red top knot bent over the task, was his boyfriend of six years. Even seeing him was enough to send a spike of dopamine straight through his brain and he grinned. Thoros finished filling the beer, swiped the excess foam off the top (Beric felt just the teensiest bit inappropriately aroused by that—this had been a rough year) and slid it expertly down the bar to a patron. “Hi,” Beric blurted less than suavely as he collapsed on a bar stool. Thoros smirked and slouched over. “What are you having?” He said, pretending Beric was just a regular customer. Beric narrowed his good eye. He could play this game. “I don’t know,” Beric spoke quietly so that Thoros had to lean forward over the bar to hear him. “What am I having?” He tried to lace it with innuendo. A smile twitched across Thoros’ face, so it must have worked. “You’ll have to speak up a little bit, I can barely hear you,” Thoros teased. Beric blushed. “A draft of the winter ale?” Thoros pretended like he had responded. He poured it, and Beric laid his head on the bar with a pout. “There, there,” Thoros patted his head. “If that guy down the bar gets up and leaves we can reevaluate.” Beric shot his most ferocious glare down the bar at the old man obliviously nursing his beer. “You’re adorable when you’re sulking,” Thoros pushed the cold glass against his neck, forcing Beric to lift his head with a yelp. “Now do you want to tell me about it?” “Law school sucks. Law school students are the worst. I miss you,” Beric took a sip of his beer moodily. “You have me right here,” Thoros rolled his eyes. “I wanted to have you right here,” Beric raised his eyebrow. “You gave me a winter ale instead.” “I have a good feeling about later,” Thoros winked. “Look at that geezer. He could die at any minute.” “I try not to bet on other people dying first. I usually lose,” Beric said gloomily. “So what’s happened? You left me a smiley face breakfast sandwich this morning so I thought things were going well.” “I made you a smiley face breakfast sandwich this morning because you deserve a smiley face breakfast sandwich every morning,” Beric said.  “And if I didn’t you would probably eat dry cereal and that’s not healthy. But returning to your question, it’s just my classmates being dicks.” “It can’t be worse than high school.” “I honestly think it might be,” Beric sighed as Thoros took a generous swig from the beer. “You’re exaggerating for a sympathy fuck,” Thoros drawled. “I’m not! They’re completely awful! They’re entitled and self-absorbed and all they want to do is work at white shoe corporate law firms and spend their six figure salaries on fancy cars and trophy wives. They hate the kids who actually try in class and they make fun of the kids on scholarship and they’re...” Beric suddenly trailed off. “What?” Thoros looked up from the glasses he’d been cleaning as he listened. “They’re here,” Beric hissed in a low voice. “That’s them! At that table near the back!” He nodded his head at the boisterous group of students lounging as if they owned the place. Jenny read the next trivia question, and Beric was appalled to see no fewer than two of them check their phones to look up the answer. “They’re cheating!” Beric scowled. “They’re trying to be lawyers and they’re cheating!” “S’good practice,” Thoros shrugged. When Beric frowned, he sighed. “Fine, I’ll tell Jenny to make sure that group is disqualified if they win. Don’t you think you’re taking this maybe a little too seriously?” “They are ruining the integrity of the game for everyone and they are the worst,” Beric bit. “I feel like you’re missing what’s really important here,” Thoros smirked mischievously. Beric looked at him suspiciously, not sure where he was going. This expression usually meant trouble. “What’s really important?” He said slowly. Thoros leaned forward into his space. “That geezer is paying his bill,” Thoros whispered, his breath tickling Beric’s ear. Beric turned slowly. He was. Suddenly this day was improving. And then it wasn’t. The door slammed open, revealing an all-too familiar face. “Robert!” Thoros said cheerfully. “Gentlemen!” Robert plopped down on the seat next to Beric, sounding already more than a little tipsy. “I’m going to be a dad!” Beric spat some beer back into his cup and started coughing. Robert reached over and thumped his back with a force that rattled every bone in his body. “Congratulations!” Thoros seemed serenely unphased. “Who’s the lucky lady?” “Cersei!” Robert beamed. Beric’s cough turned into more of a hack and Thoros got him a cup of water. Which allowed him to avoid speaking for a while longer. Cersei Lannister had been a year below them in high school. She was strikingly beautiful and more than a little crazy. She and Robert had always been a bit of an odd match—Robert was playing with a few cards short of a full deck and Cersei was playing with six sets of cards and some cyvasse pieces. On the other hand, Robert’s childlike disregard for others complimented Cersei’s sociopathy nicely. Or terribly. Depending on your perspective. More disturbing in the short term was how Robert’s love of alcohol complimented Thoros’ love of alcohol. “You know what this calls for?!” Thoros was already reaching under the bar. “SHOTS!” Robert whooped. “Shots!” Thoros echoed, slamming a bottle of high end vodka on the table. “Shots,” Beric forced himself to smile. Because if you can’t beat them, join them. Several shots later... “I’ve never loved anybody but Cersei,” Robert was saying, looking at Thoros through the bottom of his shot glass. “What about Lyanna?” Thoros asked, finishing the beer Beric had abandoned. And then the beer the old man from before had abandoned. “Psh that wasn’t real love. I loved like... the idea her right? And the sex. That was good too. But the sex with Cersei is better. She’s like a sexy lioness.” “Are lionesses sexy?” Thoros scrunched his nose as he tried to pry the still half full fifth shot from Beric’s hand. Beric allowed him to transfer Beric’s grip to Thoros’ free hand, so they were now holding hands across the bar as Thoros drank the remainder of the booze. Beric promptly lay his head down on their hands. His boyfriend. He loved him so much. He hoped Robert found somebody this great. Thoros was absent-mindedly stroking his hair. “Is Beric asleep?” Robert asked. “Just resting I think. Low tolerance.” “Not everyone can be us,” Robert laughed. “I’ll drink to that!” “So will you be a groomsman at our wedding? I wanted Beric to be one too but Cersei said I could only have four.” “Psh probably can’t find more than four female friends.” “That’s totally it. I was surprised she could find four honestly.” “She should just stuff Jaime Lannister in a dress. Boom, problem solved.” “Ha! Wanna switch to beer?” “Chyeah.” “Hey,” this was a third voice, another guy. Why did it sound familiar? “Can you stop talking to your friends and take my order?” “Can you stop being an asshole and fuck off?” That was Robert. “I know you,” the voice said. “You’re the quarterback for the Oldtown Maesters.” “Uh yeah, you a fan?” Robert tried to adjust the level of hostility in his voice. “You could say that. I’m top of my fantasy football league thanks to you! Three interceptions last game? Ha you’re a complete shit show! I rearrange my team every week to bet against you!” Oh no. Beric placed that voice now. It was the jackass from law school. He lifted his head. “Burton Crakehall,” he said matter of factly, having to lift his voice to be heard over Robert’s audible growl. The Westerman was as per usual flanked by a couple of sneering lackeys. “Dondarrion, didn’t see you there. What the fuck are you doing in a dump like this? I would have pictured you sipping Chardonnay in some Lysene joint,” Crakehall snorted, extending a pinky as he mimed holding a wine glass. Beric glared. “Perhaps we are getting off on the wrong foot,” he said evenly, trying to keep his temper in check and salvage some dignity from the situation. “Burton, this is my boyfriend Thoros Asshai and our good friend Robert Baratheon. Burton is in my year in law school.” Crakehall gave Thoros a distinctly unimpressed once over that had Beric grinding his teeth. Thoros stared back, arms crossed. “I guess when you’re all maimed you have to take what you can get,” Crakehall muttered to one of his lackeys as they started to retreat. Thoros’ face darkened, but Beric grabbed his shoulder. He was nowhere near fast enough to stop Robert however. Robert covered the distance between himself and Crakehall in a single bound. “You can let us know,” he snarled, picking up the man and hurling him bodily into a wall. The bar went completely silent, as the remainder of Crakehall’s table stood up. “Who the fuck do you think you are?!” Crakehall bounced to his feet, bleeding from a cut to the head. “I’ll kill you!” Then things escalated. Crakehall and three more friends charged Robert, who went down in a pile of flailing limbs. Thoros wriggled out of Beric’s grasp and hopped over the bar to assist. The brawl knocked over another table, spilling drinks everywhere, and the enraged patrons jumped in. It was really devolving into a free for all, when Beric spotted Crakehall slowly extricating himself from the scrum. Well that wouldn’t do. Beric waited until Crakehall had managed to get to his feet and brush himself off. “Excuse me,” Beric said politely. “I believe you forgot something.” Crakehall opened his mouth to say something, only to squawk as his nose crunched under Beric’s fist.
