Ranking the Danganronpa Executions.
//So this is a little different to the rankings that I typically do, but today, I’m actually gonna be ranking down my thoughts on the executions across the Danganronpa series, down to how good I think they are, for animation and symbolism. On a scale from Extremally Bleh to Raw As Fuck.
//I’ve been wanting to do this, but the initial plan was to break down each of the class trials, and I decided not to do that in the end, because it’s been a while since I’ve seen the class trials from the Another games, and I don’t feel like going back through them again just for a regular list. I may do it later though.
//There are a few things to note about this ranking.
I will be covering the executions from the main series, as well as the executions from Danganronpa Another, Another 2, and the two from Blowback before it got cancelled.
This list will not include the Warrior’s Of Hope’s “death” scenes.
It WILL include Chiaki’s death from Danganronpa 3.
There are no proper executions from RebirthVoices, and only one animated execution from the original Rebirth. I will not be including it, so Rebirth as a whole is not on this list.
Hifumi’s execution from the demo is not included. It sucks anyway, so no major loss.
Hyper H20 will not be included at all on this list either, since the executions in that are just drawings. Not that there’s anything wrong with them, but it’s also the case that Hyper H2O is still new to the blog, and as a result, I don’t feel obligated to make it a full part of Survivor’s canon just yet.
It goes without saying that everything on this list is my own personal opinion. You may find that you agree with me in a lot of places, and disagree in some others. Know that you are free to do either/or, and you’re also free to discuss your own opinions in the messages, provided you are nice about it.
//That should be all for now, so without further ado...IT’S PUNISHMENT TIME!
BOTTOM TIER: Bleh...
Number #33: AFTER SCHOOL LESSON [Makoto Naegi/Kyoko Kirigiri]
Tumblr media
//Initially I was going to count both Makoto and Kyoko’s versions of this execution as different executions, but in the end I decided that other than the fact that Alter Ego interrupts Makoto’s, they are literally the same cutscene with a different character.
//And they’re both equally as boring as each other. Narratively, I don’t think it makes TOO little sense, since this seems like an execution that Monokuma coupled together at the last second, because as we know, the purpose of this trial was to frame someone for something they didn’t do, be it Makoto or Kyoko depending on what ending you choose.
//But other than that, I literally have nothing to say about this one. Honestly, given it’s place in canon, it’s lucky it even makes the list. If I’m being honest, it's actually not as terrible as the next spot, but "exciting" and tense is not the word I'd use for it, in spite of how that's meant to be the entire point of the execution.
Number #32: FORCED SHUTDOWN [Alter Ego Junko]
Tumblr media
//Similarly, this one gets low because it barely counts as an execution. A strong way to land the final nail in the coffin for Junko in DR2, but execution? That’s a strong term for it.
//That being said, I actually like this one on it’s own. It's far from being a really good "execution”, and it also doesn't have the same eerie animation style the other executions do, but the one thing it has compared to Junko’s death in DR1 is originality, as opposed to haggling together every execution so far into one. I also just loved to see Monomi/Usami again one more time, because I was honestly beginning to miss her.
Number #31: BYE BYE OUCHIES [Mikan Tsumiki]
Tumblr media
//Mikan, I love you so dearly, but I have always hated what Chunsoft and DR’s writers do to you, because you’re a precious wounded soul and you don’t deserve any of the shit. And this execution is just the final nail in the coffin of just how poorly the writers treated your character.
//Level with me hear reader, does ANYONE like this execution!? Just watching this makes me uncomfortable and I have never once found anyone online saying Mikan's execution is good. Maybe I don’t hate it as much as I used to, but just...what the fuck were they thinking with this?
//Sure, injecting some kind of fluid into a giant arm DOES relate to her talent, with injections and flu shots of course, but there's so much else that could have been done with this one in particular, which is mainly why I'd want a whole rewrite if these games ever got remade.
//Besides, have you ever noticed that Mikan is the only character in the series who we never actually SEE die from the execution? (Not including the Warriors of Hope) She just goes into the atmosphere and vanishes and we just never see her again. LAME...
//This sucky execution was ultimately just the cherry on top of a VERY sucky case.
Number #30: ULTIMATE ANNIHILATION [Shuichi Saihara/Tsumugi Shirogane/Himiko Yumeno/Maki Harukawa/K1-B0]
Tumblr media
//Again, this one BARELY counts as an execution. The only reason it gets higher than Makoto/Kyoko’s and AI Junko’s is because it’s very cinematic compared to those two, but even so.
//I’ll admit that V3′s ending is really...wacky, and that’s putting it kindly. This execution didn’t really give me the sense of satisfaction I hoped it would, and let’s not forget that it actually kinda fails?
//The point of what’s going on here was to destroy the Ultimate Academy, end Danganronpa and kill the 5 remaining students, including the Mastermind, but the only two characters who actually DIE here are Tsumugi and Keebo. Shuichi, Maki and Himiko live, and I’m thinking “What the hell was the point even!?”
//But it still ends up a better cutscene and execution than Mikan’s, just barely. I'll admit, seeing Tsumugi die while waving in the same way Junko does during her execution, makes her death...sympathetic I guess? This could just be me, but I think even SHE realized that maybe this corrupt series couldn't go on forever, since she looks a little sad before she and Monokuma are inevitably crushed by a boulder.
//Also, the highlight of this execution is the final character who dies. Keebo. In order to hit the final nail in the coffin, quite literally, and to destroy the Ultimate Academy for good, Keebo blows himself up and takes everything down with him. I gotta say, that part made me really sad, because I really grew to like Keebo in spite of how basic a character he was throughout the whole game. But it was still pretty awesome.
LOW TIER: Nothing Great...But a little better...
Number #29: WILD WEST INSECTICIDE [Gonta Gokuhara]
Tumblr media
//Case 4 of Danganronpa V3 might be my overall favourite case of that game, but Gonta’s execution BARELY BARELY escapes from being put in the crap tier. If the trial had sucked overall, like Mikan’s, this one would be so much lower.
//The one thing about this execution I like is the music. I think the cowboy vocals in the background are fire. But Gonta is a good character, and this execution was NOT the comeuppance he deserved. Tragic? Yes. Makes sense to his talent? Absolutely! So what’s the problem?
//The problem is that in this situation, Monophanie and Monotaro prove more than ever that the Monokubs are quite possibly the worst thing that ever happened to Danganronpa as a series.
//Gonta is the one being executed tragically here, but for some reason, he’s HARDLY EVER ON SCREEN! The majority of this execution is focused on Monotaro and Monophanie having their dumb incest bug child!
//Now, the Monokubs dying in these executions isn't new, and this is the last time it actually happens, since Monophanie and Monotaro are both killed by this execution, but this execution is the worst offender of that. When Monokid and Monosuke died during Kaede and Kirumi's executions, I didn't care much, because they were brief. For Monodam, I was ok with it, because it was a legitimately surprising death, and even though a lot of the shots were focused on him instead of Kiyo, the context of that execution meant I didn't mind it so much.
//But sorry V3, I've had enough of incest by now, so maybe DON’T force me to watch an execution where THAT'S the central point and NOT the character who's being executed?
Number #28: CULTURAL MELTING POT [Korekiyo Shinguji]
Tumblr media
//I have no sympathy for Kiyo as a character. He was so great, and then Case 3 of V3 just...fucked him...
//Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with this execution, I just don’t think it was NEARLY as satisfying. After what he did, I want him to suffer MORE, which is saying something because honestly, this execution is pretty savage.
//It makes sense and relates to his talent, sure, but it's still an incredibly dissatisfying ending for a VERY dissatisfying trial. Plus, it upsets me every time I see Monodam, my favourite Monokub, commit suicide like that randomly due to his siblings oppression of him.
//And that’s not even mentioning the fact that Kiyo's own sister, who he committed this murder for in the first place, is ultimately the one who ends him, just makes his motive and this whole case...pointless!
//I don’t exactly know where you are in V3′s universe right now Kiyo, but wherever you are, I sincerely hope that you’re surviving off your own bloody tears.
Number #27: THE CAGE OF DEATH [Mondo Owada]
Tumblr media
//This one’s just really fucking weird.
//For the most part it makes total sense, and when you do a bit of research, you see it’s actually referencing some kind of old legend...Which is really cool!
//But...why exactly?
//I don’t think this execution is bad per se, and Game 1 Case 2 is easily one of my favourite cases in the series, in large part thanks to Mondo as a character, but it just confuses me. You mean to tell me that the high speed of the motorcycle in the cage, combined with the electric shock, caused Mondo's body to liquefy into...butter...? And then Monokuma eats him with pancakes?
//Ok...?
//Granted, there are a couple of things that make this execution good. Mondo’s expressions throughout, the fact that liquification is an original idea that hasn’t been done to anyone else yet...But other than the next spot, it’s the only execution in DR1 that made me think “Well, this is weird.”
Number #26: THE ULTIMATE PUNISHMENT [Junko Enoshima]
Tumblr media
//It’s the ULTIMATE Punishment! The final and glorious death for the evil Junko Enoshima, the Mastermind behind the killing game and the most despicable human being that’s ever lived!
//And it’s SO TOTALLY UNORIGINAL!
//Ok, so this is a better final cutscene and execution than 2 and V3, because it’s an ACTUAL execution. And honestly, I don’t know what I would have done differently, because of all directions they could have gone in for Junko’s death, this made the most sense. I mean, the one who was behind the executions is being murdered by all the executions.
//However, that really removes any sort of...uniqueness from this scheme. I mean, I don't know WHAT kind of execution Junko would have other than this one, since her talent is really vague at this point, but I do kind of wish things ended a little differently.
Number #25: SEINA DATENASHI’S EXECUTION
Tumblr media
//Our first (and worst) fangan execution. This isn’t cool, it’s just complete chaos.
//And by the way, I don’t know this executions name, because I cannot read Korean. If anyone does know how, please dm me the actual translation so I can edit this later (provided Tumblr will let me)
//Honestly, I look at this execution as maybe like...an unused execution for Kaede, but when it’s Seina, it doesn’t actually make an awful lot of sense. Seina is crushed to death after falling rapidly through several wooden stages, due to Monokuma violently playing Piano.
//Seina’s not a pianist! She’s a violinist, so the piano should serve NO PURPOSE! Not be the thing that actually KILLS HER. You cannot claim that an Ultimate Violinist’s execution is such just because there’s another Monokuma on the stage playing a violin, who by the way, doesn’t do ANYTHING by the way.
//Someone online said that the way the execution SHOULD have gone is “she starts playing a traditional song with her violin but a Monokuma gets bored and throws a rose with very sharp thorns at her, in turn she starts playing faster but more and more roses are thrown and she goes faster and faster until all the strings on her bow snaps and she collapses, dead  in a bloody pink mess of roses with sharp thorns” That would’ve been awesome.
MID TIER: Maliciously...Mediocre.
Number #24: BLAST OFF! [Jin Kirigiri]
Tumblr media
//The appeal of this execution comes from how it serves narratively. This punishment works better for Kaito later down the line for a few reasons, but we’ll get there when we get there.
//No joke, this is the legit FIRST THING you bare witness to when you start playing Danganronpa 1, and the purpose is to give you a taste of what it is you’re in for. And I think it does so pretty successfully.
//Jin’s animations in this scene are horrific, and even though Danganronpa isn’t technically a horror, this one scene right at the start gives you that impression. Admittedly, it does fall apart at the end a little because of the cartoon skeleton that falls out of the machine though, but overall, this one’s pretty successful at doing it’s job in the narrative.
Number #23: EXCAVATOR DESTROYER [Alter Ego Chihiro]
Tumblr media
//The thing this execution does best above everything else is it shows Monokuma’s sadism extremely well. It makes it clear, narratively, that Monokuma knew about Alter Ego, and went out of his way to make this execution for the AI. Which he was inevitably going to use regardless of whether Alter Ego served as a sacrifice in place of Sakura.
//In terms of the canon executions, this one is the exact centerpoint, toppling between it being pretty good, and pretty bad. There’s just not much to say about it.
//All it is is a computer getting the shit beat out of it. There’s not much more than that.
Number #22: RUNAWAY TRAIN GHOST RIDER [Mikako Kurokawa]
Tumblr media
//Honest to god, the fact that Mikako’s execution is my least favourite from the Danganronpa Another series by LINUJ is honestly the best compliment I can give to those fangames. While I’ve never been a big fan of the class trials and the mysteries, I think someone really needs to check if the creator is ok, because of a lot of these executions are INSANELY brutal.
//The reason why this one is the worst is for two main reasons. For one thing, Mikako is actually ALREADY DEAD by the time this sequence happens, having committed suicide just moments prior. And despite the fact that Another 1 tries to play into the original DR’s canon, this doesn’t make an awful lot of sense, because by that logic, Monokuma would have tried to execute Sakura too, despite being dead.
//It is pretty sadistic and funny thought that Monokuma does try to execute her corpse.
//The OTHER reason of course, is that this execution actually FAILS. Not in the same manner that Kaito’s does in V3, where he dies before his execution finishes, but it straight up just...stops...There’s no crash, no explosion, all due to a random power outage. So there’s a lot of build up for pretty much nothing.
//That being said, the context of this execution and it’s animations get it at least this far high up. Despite the fact that Another 1 ran on a slightly more dumbed down engine, and thus the animations aren’t completely top tier, for what they are, they’re super impressive.
Number #21: MELODY RHYTHM FINAL DEATH CONCERT [Hibiki Otonokoji/Kanade Otonokoji]
Tumblr media
//I think it’s the characters involved in this execution that bring it down a little bit, because honestly, Kanade and Hibiki were both pretty annoying in my opinion. However, I do think that this moment was REALLY unfair to Hibiki, having been executed in a case that she knew NOTHING about. Kinda like was the case with Gonta, but...worse.
//But what makes this one GOOD is the horrific stuff that happens in it, and the helplessness on her face and her struggle to survive, only to be completely decapitated by the thing meant to save her is really hard to watch. And then with Hibiki gone, the floor falls out under Kanade, and she is hung to death.
//Plus, as seen above, when Hibiki immediately goes for the key, Kanade grabs her, which shows that she doesn’t give a shit whether she lives or dies, so long as Hibiki goes down with her. Which then follows with Hibiki, rightfully, bashing Kanade’s head in with a microphone. The imagery is sick, and it really gets to me.
//However, It’s a bit fast, and that’s both good and bad thing. A lot of executions are dragged out for emphasis, but not this one. So while it’s original, it doesn’t exactly have the same effect.
//Plus, as mentioned, the circumstance of this execution just leaves me a little sour.
Number #20: MIKIHIKO KOYASUNAGA’S EXECUTION
Tumblr media
//Again, I don’t know the name, because it’s all in Korean.
//Honestly, this execution is a LOT like Mondo’s from DR1, except it’s less weird and is a little more horrific, but other than that, I don’t have much to say about it.
//Seeing Mikihiko get slashed by...whatever the fuck that is behind him, is brutal and bloody, and FAR more appropriate to his talent than Seina’s execution was. What drops it down a little bit is that the sequence of events are...confusing.
//He’s hung up like a puppet on strings, wearing a dress, and slashed open a few times by the claws of the beast behind him. Then Monokuma’s drag him down into a machine and he emerges as a neatly stitched together doll.
//I don’t have a lot to say about this one. It’s just the same as Mondo’s execution but better.
Number #19: PRESS CONFERENCE [Nikei Yomiuri]
Tumblr media
//This one is actually pretty freaking brutal, and honestly, it’s purely through circumstance that it barely escapes the higher tier, because it’s written PERFECTLY.
//One of Nikei’s character traits is his confidence and reliance in his writing hand, which right before this execution, he loses as a result of firing a faulty gun. And what does he do when he tries to reach for the ladder at the end of his execution? He tries to grab it with his right hand.
//And it’s crazy as well because it clearly means Mikado KNEW that Nikei would attempt this, and KNEW that Nikei would lose his right hand before this execution! How crazy do you have to be to have planned this so meticulously!?
//That being said, given that Nikei hit rock bottom with his character at this point, the lack of sympathy I felt for him really knocks this one down a few pegs. Had it been the case that Nikei had been a better person and not one of the bad guys, he might’ve gotten a lot higher, but this was his just desserts. Plus, it’s more about Mikado than him anyway.
//Plus, the sequence drags onto a chase, but really it’s a fall that does Nikei in, and that’s it. Nothing savage or suffering like Leon or Mitch. But this is still a pretty good one.
HIGH TIER: These go pretty hard.
Number #18: THE BURNING OF THE VERSAILLES WITCH [Celestia Ludenberg]
Tumblr media
//Nikei barely managed to avoid getting into High tier, and similarly, Celeste barely escaped mid-tier. If it wasn’t for the hilarious twist at the end of this execution, it would’ve been mediocre at best.
//This is an appropriate end for Celeste, being basically a manipulative witch, and as such, dying like one. But had she just burned to death, I would’ve put this one WAY lower. The Fire Truck rushing in at the end and flattening her, I will confess, was pretty funny.
//It’s good. It works. It makes sense. And that’s all that matters at the end of the day. It only beats Nikei’s due to the better animation and more hilarious twist.
Number #17: THE SPEARS OF GUNGNIR [Mukuro Ikusaba]
Tumblr media
//Yes, the Spears of Gungnir that kill Mukuro DO COUNT as an execution. There’s no flashy cutscene or anything, but the rules do state that if a rule is broken, the subsequent student will be executed. Mukuro broke a rule by attacking Monokuma, and was executed, which means this counts as an execution.
//But it still doesn’t make sense why it would be this high, even if it does count, because there’s no flashy animation, no zany music, and it’s very sudden.
//And honestly...yeah THAT’S the reason why it’s so high, because it’s very sudden! I can sum up what makes this one good in two words.
//Shock Value.
//Mukuro’s death in DR1 is quite possibly the most unexpected kill in the whole series. You know full well people are gonna die, but this just comes TOTALLY out of nowhere. And the little sporadic twitches, as well as her last words are CHILLING.
//It’s purely because of the lack of proper execution standards that leave this one so low on the list, but it’s super shocking and plays a huge role in the narrative of the game, so I think it deserves credit where credit is due.
Number #16: PLEASE INSERT COIN [Chiaki Nanami (Danganronpa 2)]
Tumblr media
//The video game imagery goes hard in this execution, and it’s really clever and creative! While I definitely won’t call it my favourite, this is a pretty great way to end one of the best trials that the series has to offer.
//It’s tragic, and hard to watch for those who love Chiaki, which I KNOW is a lot of people, but it still has the same goofiness and over-the-top animation that an execution should have. It doesn’t pick tragedy over comedy and it’s a perfect balance.
//In fact, it’s low on the list because I think it’s a bit overrated, and it does drag on for an awful long while. There are like, three different traps in this execution, and only one, the least impressive might I add, kills her.
//This execution is unique and it’s pretty clever. That’s all that it needs to be.
Number #15: BLAST OFF! SECOND IGNITION! [Kaito Momota]
Tumblr media
//Kaito Momota is my 5th favourite Danganronpa character, and what happens in this sequence is a major reason why. WHAT A WAY TO GO OUT!
//Similarly to what I said about Mikako, what makes this execution an outlier is that it actually fails. But unlike Mikako, who dies before the execution can START, Kaito goes out before it FINISHES, dying on his own terms, and ruining the whole show, which pisses...Monokuma...off...HARD.
//Narratively, it’s amazing. Because it didn’t matter that Shuichi figured out the truth, or that he stopped Kokichi and Kaito’s plan. They still won. They STILL broke the killing game.
//It’s amazing that this is one of the most original executions in terms of narrative, and yet it’s reused from Jin Kirigiri’s execution from the first game. To me, this has always felt like the basis for Monokuma's inevitable downfall, and what happens with this execution, in a way, completes the master plan. The writing of this one is superb, and honestly, the best written one.
Number #14: DEEP FRIED TERUTERU [Teruteru Hanamura]
Tumblr media
//The first execution in every game is the most important, because it has to be impactful and set the player up for what they’re in for. Not including Jin Kirigiri’s execution, the one that I consider to be the worst is Teruteru’s.
//But by worst, I don’t mean it’s bad. In fact holy shit, this one is still pretty fucking brutal, and is one of the main series better ones.
//Witnessing it was just as horrifying as the scene that happened just before it, where Teruteru actually seems willing to accept his punishment, and is ready to die for his actions, but before he dies, asks what happened to the Hanamura diner and his mother, and Monokuma refuses to tell him. That kinda stung, and then it’s emphasized when he dies in such a horrific and painful way.
//The execution is also a bit violent from how he actually died, since the actual death process lasts for a couple of seconds at most. He burns slowly in lava, I mean...nothing hurts much more.
//Poor Teruteru. You may be a creep, but you didn’t deserve THIS.
Number #13: SUPER MAKUNOUCHING MACHINE [Hajime Makunouchi]
Tumblr media
//And THIS one is even worse.
//Like I said, the first executions always seem to be the most impactful, and the same is true for SDRA2′s first victim, Hajime Makunouchi, who is not only bludgeoned to death with powerful fists 999 times, all of which hit him straight in the face, but he is then SHREDDED by the machine he is trapped in, and is turned into a plush.
//Fucking OW!
//I don’t have an awful lot to discuss about this one, because honestly, by the time I saw this, I was used to the first executions being super brutal, but you know what? It still deserves credit, for being overly violent, and creative, yet simple in practice.
Number #12: STRAND OF AGONY [Kirumi Tojo]
Tumblr media
//The first time I saw this execution, I didn’t really like it, simply because I felt nothing for Kirumi. She was my least favourite character in V3, and for a while, the series, because I just didn’t like how she was written.
//Over the course of time however, she’s MASSIVELY grown on me, and now that I look back at this execution, HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS ONE IS SAVAGE!
//A lot of people have argued that this is the best execution in the series, and while I don’t necessarily agree, it’s DEFINITELY the best from V3, where the others aren’t all that impressive.
//And yes, I know we still have one more from V3 to go, but I like that one for a bit of a different reason, but as far as brutality and symbolism go, this one is the best.
//Strand of Agony, involves the Ultimate Maid being chased through a hallway by a group of protesters holding signs that say "Notice to Quit" in English and some other foreign languages. As she tries to run away, she gets blocked off by another group. She didn't know what to do until she sees a vine with thorns drop down from the ceiling. The vine goes through a couple of spider-webs. Kirumi grabs on and climbs up, because of it being the only way out, piercing her hands in the process. Kirumi then stops as she encounters a large group of circular saws activating throughout the walls. Kirumi stares in hesitation for a moment, but determined to escape, she proceeds to climb through. As she makes her way to the top, she gets slashed and lacerated several times, causing her to scream in pain. Soon after she escapes from the saws, she is worn out, sustained a lot of injuries, and a lot of her clothes are cut off. She then looks up to see a blue sky and sunlight pouring through a hole on the top of the ceiling. Thinking that it is a way out, she continues climbing and reaches for the gap. Instead, she touches the ceiling and the hole turns out to be an illusion, which was actually a children's drawing of a sky and a sun. As she stares in disbelief and despair, the vine then breaks, causing Kirumi to fall and go splat on the ground.
//It’s torture after torture, and it never lets up. This whole execution treats her as if she's nothing more than a spider, not only climbing a dead end rope of thorns, but also falling to her death and going splat.
Number #11: SATSUKI CRISIS [Satsuki Iranami]
Tumblr media
//You ever played that game Pop-Up Pirate as a kid? Where you have to joust toy swords into a barrel, and whoever loses is the one who puts in the the sword that causes the pirate to pop out of the barrel?
//That that, but as an execution, and God it hurts.
//It doesn’t help that this is a similar situation to Gundham, where Satsuki, the blackened, committed her crime for a just reason, and now is happy to resign herself to her horrible fate. She barely stops smiling the entire time she’s in the barrel, and it’s heartbreaking.
//And as if the swords piercing through her aren’t enough, when she pops, she just goes splat on the ceiling. Seriously, LINUJ’s executions are all really good, both violently and narratively.
//The reason why Satsuki’s execution barely escapes the top 10 is because the symbolism doesn’t exactly tie in with her Ultimate Clown talent. It does so more than Seina’s execution of course, but even so.
//This a good one. And with that, we finally get into the top 10. And we kick off with...
Number #10: DISMANTLING SPORTS DAY [Ayame Hatano]
Tumblr media
//I know it seems a little controversial, but I genuinely really like Ayame’s  execution. It’s simple in practice, but savage in display.
//And the build-up and tension as you’re waiting for that shredder to get closer and closer, until it cuts her up into tiny little pieces, but then you’re caught by surprise, as it turns out the finishing line at the end of the race track is actually a blade, and it cuts her TOTALLY IN HALF.
//And the look on Ayame’s face right before she’s sliced is one that shows SHE KNOWS it’s a trap, and that’s the worst part about it.
//If there’s one thing about this execution that I don’t like, and stops it from getting into the top tier, it’s the fact that this execution suffers the most from the limited animation potential of the first game, because the jumps are a little goofy looking to be honest.
TOP TIER: RAW AF!
Number #09: GUNDHAM TANAKA STAMPEDE [Gundham Tanaka]
Tumblr media
//This one hurts...
//So...fucking...much...
//It’s pathetic of me to admit this, but I cannot watch this execution and NOT cry my eyes out. But it’s primarily because of the circumstance and not the actual execution itself that I cry, so I can’t put it up too high, because the actual execution is pretty simple, and the buildup is kinda ridiculous actually.
//I think Peko’s execution was played to be a little sadder, but for me, this is the one that takes the cake. Gundham is another character who's in my top 5 and for good reason. Seeing him go like this, as well as the fact that you can see the life leave his body as he stares at his pets, combined with the final shot of his face in the distance is something I can never get over.
//It may be straightforward, but it is pretty brutal when he finally gets rammed. So it has brutality points too.
//It’s great, and it’s the cherry on top of a delicious cake that is Game 2 Case 4.
Number #08: LAUNCHURCH [Kinji Uehara]
Tumblr media
//This one is great. It’s similar to Celeste’s execution with the sudden hilarious twist in the end, but it also works really well with the heavy religious imagery, and the symbolism of the sacrifice of christ, similar to how Kinji made a sacrifice to protect the lives of the children.
//And much like Jesus, if I may be forgiven for saying so, it was all in vein.
//And then you see the Monokuma’s gathered around, and it’s a slow, brutal, agonizing process...
//Until the cross turns into a rocket and he’s shot up into the air!
//I don’t want to laugh at an execution that is this well choreographed, and honestly, despite my own problematic thoughts towards Kinji in this chapter, this was an appropriate end for someone of his moniker.
Number #07: CHIAKI NANAMI’S EXECUTION (DR3)
Tumblr media
//This is the only execution in Danganronpa 3, and a lot of people in the fandom heavily agree it’s one of the worst experiences. I mean, look how badly it got NicoB.
//Kirumi’s execution is bad, since she ends up a completely mangled corpse, but CHIAKI in DR3 is far worse! At the end of the long process of her navigating through the hellish maze Junko set up, she ends up with a completely pierced-through foot (which she has to walk on for a majority of the execution), a gouged eye, a broken arm, a pierced-through knee, a stabbed heart, and a mangled body from falling on spikes.
//And the worst part about the whole execution is, somehow, despite taking an absolute pounding, Chiaki is STILL ALIVE in the end, for a few minutes at least, and this is the only time in the series where this happens! Which means she suffers for another good minute before she finally succumbs!
//Which gives her enough time to talk to Izuru. Who as a reminder, is the empty shell of Hajime Hinata, and the last thing Chiaki sees. Think about that. The last thing this girl sees before she dies an extremely painful and agonizing is the empty shell of her best friend in the whole world, looking down at her with a blank expression.
//As if she didn’t already suffer enough.
//It would be a crime not to put this one in the top tier, and the only reason it’s not number one is because Danganronpa 3 left a bad taste in my mouth overall. Had the anime actually been good, and not leave a bunch of questions without answers, then maybe, just maybe, this one would have more of a chance.
//If Chiaki Nanami is up in heaven, she’d BETTER be happy dammit! No one, ESPECIALLY not her, deserved this.
Number #06: THE DEATH VOLCANO SHOOT!!! [Mitsuhiro Higa] {BEST IN DRA1}
Tumblr media
//GET FUCKED!
//Sorry. I don’t like Mitch at all, and this execution was really satisfying to watch.
//But it is definitely brutal, and honestly, it’s hard to put into words properly, but I’ma try.
//You know how Leon’s execution was super brutal? Well, you can tell that LINUJ tried, and definitely succeeded, in recreating that. Strapping him to a football and kicking him about sounds super torturous.
//And that’s not even mentioning the state Mitch’s body is left in post execution. The Monokuma’s kicking the ball about kick him around so fast, it LITERALLY sets the football field ON FIRE! The last thing you see as the monitor pans out to the reaction of the other students is what’s left of Mitch. In pieces, and completely charred.
//This a prime example of just how good LINUJ is at making the executions, from both a brutality perspective, as well as a narrative one.
Number #05: THE EMMA IN THE WOODS [Emma Magarobi] {BEST IN SDRA2}
Tumblr media
//There is one more execution from SDRA2 that gets just above this one, but technically speaking, this is the best PROPER execution from SDRA2.
//The choreography and symbolism is legitimately AMAZING. And while I have very mixed opinions on Emma as a killer, it’s a similar case with Kirumi in which the execution is so brutal and scary, you can’t help but feel a little bad.
//It perfectly ties in with Emma’s talent, forming an execution made of movie references, and the ending part was super gory, and tied in with a lot of horror tropes.
//Ultimately, this one is just plain great. There’s nothing bad I can say about it, and like before, an example of why LINUJ is really good at horrific imagery and executions.
Number #04: DEEP SEA TRIP [Sora/Yuki Maeda/Iroha Nijiue/Yoruko Kabuya]
Tumblr media
//Waitwaitwaitwaitwait...hear me out on this one.
//Like I said before, I believe the best execution in SDRA2 is Emma’s but only because it’s the best PROPER execution. As far as the executions in general go, this one GOT ME BAD!
//The reason is because this execution happens as a result of something that the series has NEVER DONE before which is...a WRONG VERDICT. Mikado manipulates everyone into thinking that Iroha killed Teruya, when in reality, HE is the purpotrator, and he succeeds in doing so.
//So as you can probably imagine, my heart rate went through the roof when I watched this cutscene. I know that Danganronpa games are typically 6 chapters, so you’re probably thinking, “well, you know that there’s a 6th chapter, so you know they’re gonna be ok by the end of this.”
//But that’s the thing!
//I WASN’T SURE!
//I don’t think I’ve ever been so scared playing Danganronpa as I was in this moment. I genuinely thought that Sora and the others were through, and that was gonna be the end of all of it. Of course, the execution fails because the program crashes, but it didn’t stop me from being scared.
//This was the highlight of what made SDRA2 so special, despite all the problems with it’s class trials, it still delivered in this moment SPECTACULARLY. Plus, the animation and the frantic pacing of this is incredible.
//And with that...it’s time for the top 3.
Number #03: DER FLOHWALZER [Kaede Akamatsu] {BEST IN DRV3}
Tumblr media
//You guys already know just how much I love Kaede, and as you can imagine, this hurt more than you could believe for me.
//Not only did I have to watch a character I adored playing as go to her tragic death, but said death was SO UNBEARABLY painful to watch. But it is good, and I’m glad it was what it was as opposed to what Seina Datenashi got.
//To me, I feel like this execution almost takes place in real time, and it's very hard to not feel a little sick, and the music and how off key it becomes as the execution progresses further emphasizes Kaede slowly and gradually losing more and more of the life within her as she dangles above the keys.
//The thing that makes this execution so heartbreaking is how each of the scene's transition. Kaede is one of the characters in the series who is so full of life, and is so fun to be around and watch, but every time the camera shifts from her to somewhere else, every time it shifts back, a bit of that life has since faded from her face and thus keeps happening until there is nothing left of it in her.
//She was one of the most cruel executions in the whole series, and you can hold it to me on that.
Number #02: ONE WOMAN ARMY [Peko Pekoyama] {BEST IN DR2}
Tumblr media
//This execution is amazing for one big reason: The narrative of what happens, and I’ll explain why.
//First of all, this execution made Chapter 2′s ending somehow EVEN MORE heart-wrenching than it already was. It's not nearly as violent as most of the executions in the series, particularly because you don't really see her get stabbed by the Manikins (or Monokins as I like to call them ;)) but it's arguably the most emotionally cruel.
//The most notable part of this execution, is even though it's basically a lost cause at this point, Fuyuhiko actually rushes into the execution to try and save her. The most screwed up part of this trial, is that the way everything is set up, it seems as if Monokuma PREDICTED that Fuyuhiko would do this!
//I mean, think about it. What would be more despairing for Peko than dealing harm to the one person she spent her whole life trying to protect? He freaking KNEW Fuyuhiko would try to save Peko, and WORKED it into the execution process!
//That's fucked! That's SO fucked! Not only because Fuyuhiko is left clinging onto life by a thread for an execution that wasn't even meant for him, but because that's EXACTLY how Peko ends up dying, because she uses her own body to shield his from the sword blades, so that they don't reach his vitals.Not only that, but Monokuma gets Peko to slice Fuyuhiko's right eye in half, which is just kind of emotionally painful.
//Game 2 Case 2 gets a bad rep for being dragged out a lot, and yes, I do kinda agree, but I think this conclusion made up for all the errors that came with it. This was a close shave, and this execution barely escaped being the number one...
//But of course, there’s only one execution in the whole series that deserves the title, both in and out of canon, and by now, you should’ve recognized which one it is. I shouldn’t even have to say it...but...
NUMBER #01: THE 1000 BLOWS [Leon Kuwata] {BEST IN DR1}
Tumblr media
//As the title of George Washington’s autobiography states...you never forget your first.
//Leon’s execution is a masterpiece. It exceeds all others in terms of brutality, narrative, and every other thematic piece of importance that executions serve in the series. This execution DEFINED those principles.
//Technically speaking, the first execution in the series was Jin Kirigiri’s, but since Jin’s was part of a prologue where the player doesn’t get what’s going on yet, it doesn’t give the player as much of a taste as to the true cruelty of the killing game as Leon’s 1000 blows does.
//Plus, yes, like I said earlier, Mukuro’s death counts as an execution, but it’s not the same theatrical performance that Leon’s death was. And as weird as it sounds, being speared all over the body seems like a far easier death than being bludgeoned to death by baseballs.
//This is the first REAL execution in the entire series, which means it needs to leave one hell of an impact, and holy shit, it does so amazingly! Leon's execution has a whole new meaning to it, and sets up the series, showing the extent of the twisted nature and the darkness of this world, and that the world we once knew is now far beyond our grasp. This is also one of the first instances where we see the almost haunting animation that all the punishments are associated with. Again, we see it with Jin, and it's JUST as horrifying there, but again...lack of context. Leon's facial expressions as the chain clasps his neck tightly and drags him away kicking and screaming is nightmarish, on a level that none of the other executions have achieved thus far. However, the real shock is that this is only the beginning. The REAL punishment has yet to come!
//As soon as Leon is strung up to the post, it becomes clear how the punishments relate to the victims Ultimate Talent, as the player watches in horror as a machine gun/pitching machine is loaded with baseballs. Imagine what it would be like to have hundreds of thousands of baseballs shot at you from every possible angle. If you can manage that, then you know as soon as you see those baseballs, that there is absolutely no way that Leon is going to make it out alive.
//And his death...is painful.
//The last thing you see before the cutscene ends is the last blood-coated baseball rolling towards the camera while Leon's limp and lifeless body hangs in the background, and it’s at this point that you know you’re going to be in for a sick, twisted affair of a game. I love it, not in an edgy way, but from a writing and over-arcing perspective.
//Things in Hope’s Peak...have never been the same since.
Tumblr media
//And that’s that. Please, I heavily implore you to leave your own thoughts in the comments below. Chances are I may turn this post into a script for a video later down the line, but in case it’s not obvious, I love this series, and will for a long time.

thh characters with a crush on you
Tumblr media
warnings: none, maybe some swearing but otherwise nothing major
oH and mentions of murder and death but this is danganronpa so im going to assume u expected as much
a/n: so we kickin this blog off with a bang, writing for LITERALLY THE ENTIRE TRIGGER HAPPY HAVOC CAST LMFAOAOAOAO (excluding hifumi, yasuhiro, and the two despairs doe bc i’ve already made that clear)
also some character’s sections are shorter than others im sorry i just couldnt think of as many bullet points for them *tiktok cry emoji*
edit: I FORGOT CELSESTE FU K SORRY
spoilers under the cut!!
★ 彡 ★ ミ ★ 彡 ★ ミ ★
makoto naegi
when he realizes he likes you, he doesn’t necessarily panic or anything, but he does get nervous
nervous around you, that is
y’all saw how he was with sayaka
if he says anything that might sound intimate then he’ll immediately rephrase it or reassure he didn’t mean anything by it
he really only does have good intentions but his wording just kinda flops sometimes
he appreciates how you listen to him and value what he says
you don't make him feel dumb or inferior compared to a bunch of ultimates with actual talents
he’ll muster up the courage to tell you eventually
let’s hope his luck comes through 😁
byakuya togami
now when THIS man realizes he likes you, he a bitch nigga bout it 😐
he can't believe he fell for a common plebeian such as you
but it was hard not to
the way you preferred to get to the point
the way you were aware of your situation and didn't sugarcoat how you felt about it, although you certainly were nicer with it than him
he's ruthless
anyways
you knew your priorities and spent no time trying to use your resources
he noticed how much you had in common; in you, he saw himself
and we all know how this mf feels about himself 😐
he’ll be quick to defend you in class trials
he won’t realize he’s doing it but he just subconsciously protects you
but just because he doesn't notice it, don't mean the rest of the class brushes past it as well
yeah they on his ass LMFAOO
kyoko kirigiri
kyoko is very good at keeping her composure so she won’t be very obvious
she’ll probably just hang around you more
she’ll also defend you in class trials, calmly
“oh, it couldn’t have been [name]. i remember seeing them in their dorm around the time the murder took place.”
hifumi probably finna say some dumb shit like “aye what was you doin in their dorm doe” but anyways
she finds you respectable
if you have anything to contribute, she’ll let you take the floor
when she tells you, she’s very composed, but also very indirect LMFAO
she’s not too sure on how to express her interest in you but maybe she’ll go about it like “well, [name], now we’ve made it here, would you like to step back into the world with me?” or somethin else along those lines idk
take her hand
pls
toko fukawa
y’all know her whole “master togami” shtick
yeah so 😁😁😁😁
no but fr, toko ofc still has her borderline stalkerish 🧍🏾‍♀️ tendencies
she’ll often find herself staring at you, either in the library or in the morning meetings everyday at breakfast
but she isn’t as straight forward as she is with byakuya
i actually think she’d be mad shy and non confrontational
the whole thing she kept up with him ? yeah, never again
if you approach her first then she’ll be able to get a few words out but for most of the conversation, she’ll just nervously play with her braids
you’ll most likely put two and two together
unless ur a makoto kinnie bc then you’ll have to wait till someone else puts it in place for u but anyways
if you decide to approach her about it, you’ll kinda be backing her into a corner bc she’s just bad at deflecting things lmao
she’ll eventually confess (begrudgingly but hey i mean its better than nothing)
expect much stuttering and a gesture like giving you a small gift
and not to be that writer that uses japanese terms in english writing but toko seems like a tsundere but not really if that makes sense?? so she’d probably shove it in your hands and if you try to say something then she’ll just try to play it off as not a big deal lol
calls u a baka 😍😍
aoi asahina
i know y’all all see how she is with sakura
yeah.
aoi is the kind of person who’d like to spend time with their crush rather than shy away from them
she values you and your friendship very much
bring her donuts
just trust me bring her donuts
she doesn’t really realize she’s into you like that for a while but believe me, she is, the whole time
and yeah i think she’d be nervous to tell you bc that’s just natural but ultimately she’d be cool about it
uh oh looks like we goin for a swim
sakura ogami
similar to kyoko, she’s very calm
despite her big and bad appearance, she really is a sweet girl
she cares for you and your well-being very much
will indeed go on x games mode for you
the way she tells you is very sincere and well spoken
kith her
naow
im sorry this is like the shortest one i couldn’t think of much for her 😔😔
leon kuwata
flirtatious ass mf
and he’s lightskin
so this just cannot go well
y’all know that bit where it’s like the guy yawns and stretches his arms up and then wraps one around your shoulder
yeah that’s literally him LMFAOO
he’s very confident
he was fairly well known with the ladies at his old school so you know he’s rhockin wit it ‼️
but
you feel.. different than usual ??
those girls were just lil flings n dates bc he was nice enough to accept their confessions and it boosted his ego anyway so it was a win win
but you
he was genuinely interested in you since he had saw you the first time
he didn’t just acknowledge your appearance
he learnt about your personality and your hobbies and what you liked and such, and he really cared and wanted to hear you talk about it all
he felt the need to really make an effort to show you how much he respected and had affections for you
he doesn't tell you in a grand way
probably just asks you out to a movie or somethin
he's chillin
mondo owada
you know
for being the biggest, baddest, most respected biker gang leader
or just for being in a biker gang period
mondo’s a huge softie lol
yeah he gets violent but he’s a sweet guy who cares about and is loyal to his friends
so mfs need to be nice to you
or they gettin whooped
when he decides it’s time to tell you how he feels, he thinks over his words and he’s all confident there’s no way you’d reject him but then he sees you in the halls and goes 🧍🏾 LMFAOOO
he’ll push through but it’s like he’ll walk up to you and look away from you because he refuses eye contact and just go
“so y/n, would you wanna.. tch.. come to a drive-in movie with me or somethin’?... dumbass.”
real smooth mondo i think you got em good job
please tease him LMFAOO it’d be so funny
he’d probably yell but you can tell he’s not mad so you just keep going with it
but once you’re done tormenting him, you do agree to the movie, don’t worry 🙏🏾
also mondo would call his s/o doll
that is all
chihiro fujisaki
my fav dude in a dress <3
chihiro would be quite shy, but that’s just how he is tbh so no surprise there
he’s very kind so he’d check up on you often just to see how you are
he cares about you v much
the way he confesses is one that consists of a red face as he offers you a box of candy or something similar
and he’d feel honored that you reciprocate his feelings
he’d be very scared to tell you his secret but once he does, he’s delighted to hear it doesn’t make any difference to you
he doesn’t know how he got so lucky with you
not only because woooo they like me back but also because you like him despite,, well everything about him LMFAOO
sweet lil boy
i’d feel like he’d talk about you to alter ego a lot
and when u meet the program for the first time, he’s like “oh! you must be [name]! master’s told me all about you :)”
sobbing i miss him
kiyotaka ishimaru
okay here’s the thing
if taka were to like someone
i can’t tell whether he’d be more strict because he doesn’t want them to get in trouble (and also so it would hopefully divert any suspicion that he DOES like you since he treats you the same as everyone else, only more)
or if he’d hold back more because he favors them LMFAOO
so imma write a lil bit for both
in the case that he was even stricter:
he’d prefer to be around you because he believes the best way he can make sure you stay out of trouble is to make sure you don’t get into any in the first place
of course it’s impossible to monitor you every second of every day but he does his best to make sure you’re doing well
if he sees you do anything out of line, he’s shutting that shit down IMMEDIATELY
but in the case he let up:
he’d still lecture you but noticeably less than the other students
if your feet were resting on top of a desk, he’d ask you to move them and then leave you alone rather than yell at you and forcibly move them himself
if you notice his behavior towards you in comparison to the other students do not tease him about it he will go as red as his eyes /hj
either way he’s confessing to you with a polite but exaggerated bow while holding out a well thought out letter with both hands
sayaka maizono
she will tell you
idk why but i feel like she’d be straight up lol
she’d make sure she’s sincere
she is the ultimate pop idol and all so she wants to make sure you know that she really does like you and isn’t playing a sick joke on you or anything
ok bc
while i do think she’d tell you
i’d feel like she’d be a little indirect just to see how you feel
like she’d give you a free ticket to one of her upcoming concerts with a kind smile
and naturally, you're like :o
and of course you come to support her
and seeing you smile at her from the crowd and cheer her on was the encouragement she needed to push her to ask you out
for real this time
she asks if you wanna come to a concert with her and ur like “oh yeah i love ur shows!!” bc ur dumb and then she’s like “no i mean.. for another artist” and eventually it hits you that she’s asking you out and ur like “oH YEAH YEAH SURE THAT SOUNDS GREAT YEAH OK” LMFAOO
———
i really hope that this is good LMFAOO this is my first time writing for dr so 😃👍🏾
fun fact i finished toko’s section first and taka’s last 😁😁
and i’d like to thank @mius-imagination @bloodygir n the rest of the discord for helping me figure some of these characters out *simultaneously whips and nae naes*
bye ive been working on this for like weeks this took forever

edit: here’s a deleted section bc i kept blanking for this character 😍

Judging the Danganronpa x Sanrio character pairings
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You may have already heard that a DANGANRONPA X SANRIO line of crossover merch was announced a few days ago! Which is obviously AMAZING, because they’re combining cutesy characters that have often been marketed to wee children with everybody’s favorite murderdeathkill game! I LOVE IT.
I have a niece who went through a Sanrio/Hello Kitty phase, so I actually know a few of these characters. In turn, this means that I have THOUGHTS on how the DR1 and Sanrio cast were paired up.
Granted, I still had to look up a lot of these guys and read about them. But now I feel adequately educated to the point where I can judge just how well the Danganronpa and Sanrio pairings actually match up.
Makoto Naegi/Cinnamoroll - Obviously this totally works because Makoto IS something of a cinnamon roll, eh? EH? But Cinnamoroll is said to be shy albeit still very friendly. He also likes to seek out fun new adventures. So, aside from “very friendly,” I’m not sure that this sounds like Makoto. I also doubt that calling a character a “cinnamon roll” is common slang in Japan. So this is whatever.
Sayaka Maizono/Wish Me Mell - Mell has the power to connect people’s hearts by simply stating the feelings they keep inside. She was initially withdrawn and believed she didn’t have any friends, but the people who cared for her finally broke through her shell and convinced her that she DOES have friends. So uh, Maizono... I guess music can also bring out people’s feelings? And perhaps you could plausibly HC that Sayaka has often felt like her surrounding friends were “fake” and only there because of her celebrity status. There’s not really much to go on here.
Leon Kuwata/Tiran - Tiran is an orange T-rex that is said to be scatterbrained but still a strong and reliable leader. Meanwhile, Leon has orange hair, and he’s certainly strong and kind of scatterbrained sometimes. It sorta works.
Kyoko Kirigiri/Marroncream - Marroncream is bright, positive, and fashionable. She is talented at making crafts and sweets. She lives in Paris. She has nearly nothing in common with Kyoko, although Kyoko did live abroad a lot in her younger years. So I could try to latch onto the Paris thing.
Hifumi Yamada/Pokopon - Pokopon is a raccoon that loves to read but dislikes ghosts and “the thunder god.” (uh... what?) He also finishes his sentences with the unusual suffix “-das.” Of course, Hifumi loves to write (which certainly is connected to reading), and he likes to end all names with a weird suffix (”-dono”), so I can see how they might make a cute pair.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru/Pekkle - Pekkle is a duck who is good-natured and kind. He loves to sing and dance. It kind of sounds like he should’ve been matched with Sayaka, but instead he’s here with Taka. While Ishimaru is definitely a good person, I don’t think most people would immediately describe him as “kind.” And he certainly isn’t known for his love of music.
Yasuhiro Hagakure/Monkichi - Monkichi is a laid-back, easygoing guy who is upbeat and loves puns. His dream is to become a poet. It’s said that once he sets his mind on something, there is no stopping him! And in comparison, Hagakure is... well, he’s kind of laid-back in the sense that he’s kind of lazy? But he’s actually pretty high-stress a lot of the time, too. Honestly, there’s not much linking the two.
Chihiro Fujisaki/Kurousa and Shirousa - Shirousa is the white one and is the older sibling to Kurousa, the brown one. Shirousa is described as an energetic leader and Kurousa is described as being nice but lazy. They like to make cakes. What does any of this have to do with Chihiro? Beats me. This particular pairing is nonsense.
Byakuya Togami/Badtz-Maru - Badtz-Maru is said to have a bad attitude and dreams of being “the boss of everything” when he grows up. He tends to act a bit selfish, and he mocks things he dislikes/disagrees with. He enjoys expensive food and collecting photos of movie villains. With the exception of that last point, I’d have to say that this sounds like a near-perfect match for Togami.
Mondo Owada/Goropikadon - The Goropikadon are a group of cave boys whose actual names are Goro (blue hair), Pika (pink hair), and Don (teal hair). Goro is always hungry and joking around. PIka is a thoughtful, shy mama’s boy. Don is serious and places a high value on honesty. Overall, I suppose that how quick Mondo is to get angry and resort to violence kind of makes him seem like a stereotypical caveman? But in terms of their distinct personalities, only Don’s focus on honesty rings true for Mondo.
Toko Fukawa/Lloromannic - Another multi-character one. The Llormannic are a pair of creatures named Berry (the black one, who is male) and Cherry (the pink one, who is female). They are mischievous and love to play pranks on humans. Cherry was originally alone and created Berry for companionship; however, she mixed up her magic spell ingredients and used salt when she meant to use sugar, which resulted in Berry turning out to be a more hostile being than Cherry. I suppose the fact that Berry is a darker creation of Cherry’s sort of reflects the relationship between Toko and her other self, Genocide(r) Syo/Jack. However, Berry and Cherry are still best friends. Toko and Syo/Jack are definitely not that.
Celestia Ludenberg/Kuromi - Kuromi is the rival of a bunny named “My Melody” who doesn’t appear in this promotion. Kuromi is said to look “tough and punk” in her jester’s hat with the pink skull on it, but in reality she is very girly. She enjoys writing in her diary, reading romance books, cooking, and checking out good-looking guys. I suppose Celestia did have that dream of living in a mansion where she was served by handsome guys dressed as vampires? So... they both like hot guys? But that’s all I’ve got here. Pretty sure this pairing only exists for aesthetic reasons. And admittedly, their aesthetics mesh very well.
Aoi Asahina/Keroppi - Keroppi lives with his family on the edge of Donut Pond. He is bubbly, a fantastic swimmer and, because of the name of his home pond, is often associated with donuts and/or things that are donut-shaped. Ok, so this was an obvious pairing, then. They nailed it. Probably the single best pairing they came up with.
Sakura Ogami/My Sweet Piano - Yes, the character’s name is literally “My Sweet Piano.” She’s described as soft, kind, and girly. Given Sakura’s secret love of girly things, I can see how this soft, pink, girly sheep would be something she’d love to be around.
Junko Enoshima (...?)/Hello Kitty - Hello Kitty (a.k.a. Kitty White) is described by Sanrio as “cute, bright, sweet, kind-hearted and tomboyish.” They also say that Kitty is very close with her sister, Mimmy. As for Junko... look, the only reason I think maybe this is supposed to be Junko is because Mukuro already has her own Sanrio matchup (see the next entry), but in terms of her appearance, this “Junko” sure looks like it’s “Junkuro.” The telltale sign is that giant bow on the left side of the head, which only Mukuro-as-Junko has ever worn. I doubt we’re supposed to be thinking that they did two Mukuros in two different outfits, though?
It’s like this: If it’s Junko, well, I guess both Junko and Kitty are icons within their respective brands. And Junko tries to put on a “cute and bright” exterior persona, I guess? But that’s pretty thin. On the other hand, if this is Mukuro in disguise, this is actually a semi-decent matchup! Mukuro is arguably tomboyish and certainly very close to her sister (at least from her own perspective), so these two are not without their parallels.
In either case, both Kitty and the Unknown Despair Sister have a big bow on the left side of their head. Which I think is the real reason they’ve been paired, honestly.
Mukuro Ikusaba/Little Twin Stars - Kiki and Lala are a pair of twins that were born on December 24th. Mukuro is one half of a pair of twins ALSO born on December 24th. Instant connection! Kiki (the blue-haired boy) loves fishing and inventing things. He is curious and cheeky. Lala (the pink-haired girl) loves drawing, writing poems, and cooking. She is rather timid. In short, the “twins with the same birthdate” thing is the only thing connecting Mukuro to these two. Still, it’s not bad.
Tumblr media
Also, the most amazing thing to come out of this team-up so far HAS TO BE MonoKitty. Hello Kitty cosplaying as our favorite psychotic MurderBear? How great is that? SELL ME MERCH OF MONOKITTY.

Danganronpa tier listttttt
Idk if people know how I feel about these characters, so here ya go! This is my opinion, please don’t attack me for this (also I only did this for the mainline games and Komaru + the Warriors of Hope)
...Also I wanted to go into detail on some of these so yeah Warning: it does get pretty rambly
S tier
...I don’t really feel like I need to explain any of these. MOVING ON
A tier
Chiaki Nanami Please don’t kill me for not putting her in S. I can explain, I promise Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore her and love her relationship with Hajime, but I didn’t really get as attached to her as I did with other characters. I still love her though
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu He has one of the best character arcs in the series, only JUST being outranked by Shuichi. Seriously, best SDR2 survivor, hands DOWN.
Ultimate Imposter Yep. Fake Togami outranks actual Togami by miles. YEAH I SAID IT! Idk, I found them a lot more interesting and likeable than Togami and it was a real shame they got killed off so early. They were pretty fun.
Ryoma Hoshi ...Do I even need to explain why he ranked so high? Like, come ON! He’s one of the most underrated characters in the franchise!
Hajime Hinata 3rd best protag for me (yes I’m counting Kaede shut up), but I still love his arc.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru He was my fave from the first game for a while, but the Kiyondo stuff kinda brought him down for me. And ngl, at times it feels like people only judge him based on his friendship with Mondo. I still love him though.
Mondo Owada Chapter 2. Need I say more. He’s a pretty cool character outside of that, too.
Komaru Naegi Just copy-paste my reason for Ryoma, it’s practically the same.
Nagisa Shingetsu Best Warrior of Hope. Hands down. I will die on this hill.
Kotoko Utsugi Despite being beaten out by Nagisa, I still adore her. She deserves the best.
B tier
Maki Harukawa Okay don’t get me wrong, I like her as a character, but the main problem I had was that her crush on Kaito kinda came out of left field for me. Like, she was a stoic unfeeling assassin and she suddenly fell head over heels for some astronaut that knocked on her door a few times. It feels pretty rushed (though knowing Tsumugi it probably was) and kinda brings her down a few pegs for me.
Korekiyo Shinguji “Why is he ranked so high!? He’s the freaky incest guy-” SHUT UP. Yes, his character was absolutely obliterated by the incest twist, but outside of that he is actually a pretty compelling character. (also if you look into his writing it’s pretty heavily implied that his sister used and abused him so judging him based on the incest thing alone is kinda odd ngl)
Ibuki Mioda She’s pretty fun. I’m not as head-over-heels for her as other people, but she’s pretty fun.
Celestia Ludenberg See, Ouma stans? THIS is how you do a compelling liar character!
Peko Pekoyama Please don’t kill me. It’s just that outside of Fuyuhiko she kinda felt......Eh? Like don’t get me wrong, I like her, but something always felt missing for me.
Nagito Komaeda My favourite antag didn’t even make A tier whoops- Yeah, Nagito is the best rival for me, but I’m not as head-over-heels for him as the rest of the fandom is.
Leon Kuwata PLAY HIS FREE TIME EVENTS.
Kiibo The “that’s robophobic!” joke kinda got old after the billionth time, but other than that he’s fun.
Aoi Asahina Her development is cool, but I don’t really have much to say on her honestly.
Sonia Nevermind Same reason as Aoi, but her relationship with Gundham is pretty cute.
Jataro Kemuri This kid deserves better and needs protection. ...I don’t have much other than that, though.
Monaca Towa This is gonna be controversial, but Monaca is the best villain of the franchise for me. Sure, she’s far from being one of my favourite characters, but she’s menacing and enough of a threat to be a great antagonist.
C tier
Kyoko Kirigiri Please don’t kill me. Like...She’s okay, but for a while I found her kinda......Dull? Idk what to say here.
Makoto Naegi He’s alright, but he’s the weakest protagonist for me.
Tsumugi Shirogane I think people are gonna agree with me the most on this. She’s a decent villain, but the "plainy plainy plain” stuff got REALLY old. (which is partially why I rewrote her entirely in DFTH oops) She’s better than Junko by a long shot, so at least she has that.
Kirumi Tojo She was okay until the nonsensical prime minister twist. Seriously, I detest that twist.
Angie Yonaga ...I don’t really have much to say on her. Like the Atua stuff got pretty old and I found her kinda annoying, but she has enough to put her above the characters I don’t like.
Mahiru Koizumi She kinda felt like a better Tenko, but...Uh...
Teruteru Hanamura Yeah, I don’t outright dislike Teruteru. Shocking, I know. His backstory and the stuff with his mom is charming enough, but the perverted stuff still kinda icks me out. It’s not as bad as Miu’s, though.
Genocider Syo She’s more interesting than Toko, but still not really that much there other than “serial killer that somehow got accepted into this academy but don’t think about that look how quirky she is!!”
Tenko Chabashira Similar to Angie. But the way she drooled over and chased after Himiko was kinda eeeh for me. Not as bad as Souda though, thank god
D tier
Byakuya Togami God, he’s such an asshole. Sure his development and the stuff he does is interesting, but GOD HE’S SUCH AN ASSHOLE.
Akane Owari She’s the most “why the hell are you still here” out of the survivors for me. Like, I don’t outright hate her, but a lot of the time it kinda feels to me like she’s only there for fanservice. (seriously, in one of her sprites she’s literally flashing you. Do I need to say anything else?)
Himiko Yumeno Yeah, she’s also pretty weak for me. Her development post chapter 3 was okay I guess, but it kinda felt too little too late.
Toko Fukawa Ugh. Sure, I don’t really like Togami, but the way she drools over him is gross. Sure she’s somewhat redeemed by her development in UDG, but other than that she doesn’t really offer much.
Yasuhiro Hagakure Didn’t really felt like he offered much other than “blatant comic relief who’s probably a stoner”.
Masaru Daimon The weakest out of the Warriors of Hope by a long shot. Sure, his backstory’s pretty sad, but his personality kinda grated on me, ngl.
Kokichi Ouma PLEASE DON’T KILL ME. Like, everyone hails him as the best written character of the series, but if you look closer into his writing it’s actually pretty bad. Not to mention the stans constantly excusing his actions because “uwu liar boy who’s gay for Shuichi” REALLY brings him down.
E tier
Kazuichi Souda He’s literally all the things people hate about Teruteru, but the fandom barely calls him out for it! Hooray!
Miu Iruma She’s basically just there for NSFW jokes. Need I say more. Also, why is no-one else talking about how problematic the maintenance scene was?
Nekomaru Nidai He’s basically just there for shit jokes. And that really got old for me.
Sayaka Maizono OKAY PLEASE PUT YOUR PITCHFORKS DOWN AND HEAR ME OUT! Look, I’m not gonna deny she was kinda cute, but what she pulled in chapter 1 was honestly really fucking snakey. “But she didn’t know about the class trial stuff!” So what? She was willing to use practically the only person in the academy she was close to as a fall guy so she could get away with murder and didn’t even bat an eye! Even if the trial stuff didn’t happen and she DID get away with killing Leon, did she really think everyone would be okay with it? Hell, did she even CONSIDER how Makoto felt!? Sayaka is a fucking snake! She literally USED Makoto!!! WHY IS NO-ONE CALLING HER OUT!?!?
F tier
Junko Enoshima ...Do I even need to explain this.
Mikan Tsumiki I really didn’t like her, even BEFORE chapter 3. Yeah, I said it. She kinda got on my nerves and the fact that they were playing her up for fanservice despite her backstory was really gross, and chapter 3 just made everything so much worse. Like, her getting her memories back and killing someone could’ve worked, JUST MAKE HER PLAN MAKE SENSE!
Hiyoko Saionji She’s just a fucking bully. Do I really need to elaborate?
Hifumi Yamada ...Again. Do I REALLY NEED TO EXPLAIN THIS!?

Danganronpa IshiMondo Hogwarts AU idea
Hi all! So, the other night I was lying in bed, thinking about IshiMondo (as one does), when I got this random idea. It just kind of was a random musing at first, but the more I thought of it, the more invested I got. What was this idea, you ask? Well, those of you who read the title of this post will already know.
IshiMondo at Hogwarts. And... that’s about it, ha.
The idea quickly went from a “ha, cool idea” to an “I must have this.” And I would like to say that-- while I know Harry Potter has its flaws (and J.K. Rowling can bite me)-- I still adore the series, while also acknowledging the flaws and downfalls.
I did write a one shot fic of IshiMondo at Hogwarts, but this post isn’t about that. This is just about my headcanons of what house each student would be in, their blood purity, their prefect status, as well as how it would work having the Danganronpa characters be in Hogwarts. If you feel excited about the fic, don’t worry, it is completed with 25k words. I wrote frantically the last day and a half to complete it, ha. I had no plot in mind when I started, just wanted a IshiMondo Hogwarts story, but I got a pretty solid plot idea after writing for a little bit, so I hope y’all like it.
I don’t know when I’ll be posting it, just because I have a bit of a backlog of fics to post, oof. Probably sometime next week, after some more editing.
Anyway, if you are interested in the Hogwarts AU idea, feel free to read on to the rest of the post. It’s a little rambling, so apologies about that. But I’m just super psyched on this idea, ha. And I always focus on useless details when I think about thing, oof.
(I will add a read more here, just to not have an insanely long post clog your dash if y’all don’t care, ha.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyway. The first thing I thought about was which house each student would be in. And this... was surprisingly easy, really. Some of the characters I was a bit stuck on, but was still able to put them in a house and feel good with it, even if for some I’m like “ehhh, they asked the hat to be in that house, lol”.
One small issue I found for fitting the Danganronpa characters into Hogwarts was the fact that the 88th class only had 16 students, which would be ridiculously small for a Hogwarts year. I explain this one away by saying the war just made their year smaller, since I wouldn’t want to add any students to their year, really. If you go by their canon birth years, 1993 (other than Hiro, ha, though in this AU he’s the same age as the rest), they’d have been about 4 or 5 during the war in 1998, so it would make some sense for their year to be smaller. Also... if you’re wondering why 16 Japanese students ended up in a British school... shhhh. That’s the biggest hand wave in all Hogwarts crossover AU’s.
Anyway, here’s the houses I put them in. I wanted 4 per house, since there are an even 16 students in Danganronpa, so 4 per house makes sense. I also initially wanted to have 2 girls and 2 boys, when possible, but it didn’t work out for most of the houses. Ah well.
The students houses, as well as “blood purity” and prefect status, since my fic takes place in fifth year:
Hufflepuff:
Makoto (half-blood)
Taka (pureblood) (prefect, duh)
Sayaka (half-blood)
Hifumi (half-blood, muggle mother)
~XoxoxoxoxoxoX~
Gryffindor:
Mondo (muggle born)  (prefect)
Sakura (half-blood)
Leon (half-blood)
Hina (half-blood)
~XoxoxoxoxoxoX~
Slytherin:
Junko (pureblood)
Mukuro (pureblood)
Byakuya (half-blood- pureblood father, half-blood mother)
Celeste (half blood- pureblood mother, half-blood father) (prefect)
~XoxoxoxoxoxoX~
Ravenclaw:
Kyoko (half-blood) (prefect)
Hiro (muggle born)
Toko (half-blood)
Chihiro (muggle born)
~~~~~
Houses defense:
I honestly feel that these houses are pretty representative of the characters, for the most part. But here is some evidence, which yes, I did put thought into, ha. Please go with the assumption for the houses that the hat also takes into account what qualities the students personally value, even a bit more than what qualities they may or may not possess. This is just how I personally view the hat working in HP, because otherwise... well, it doesn’t make much sense, since everyone has at least some quality of each house.
Taka, I firmly believe, is absolutely a Hufflepuff, duh. Not only does he value hard work above literally all else, but he is fiercely loyal and does his best to be kind, even if he doesn’t always succeed. More than that, while he is intelligent, he absolutely does not value intelligence, since he hates geniuses, which eliminates Ravenclaw. He is ambitious, but he is the legit opposite of cunning or sly, ha, so Slytherin is out. And while he is brave, he is not at all reckless, nor do I think he values bravery much, so no to Gryffindor. Thus, Hufflepuff through and through.
I also feel confident with Mondo’s placement. He’s totally a Gryffindor, oof. He’s so hotheaded and reckless in canon, always running headfirst into things without thinking it through first. And with his thing against being weak, he tends to make up for it by being recklessly brave, not to mention how he’d have to at least fake bravery with his position as a biker gang leader. He doesn’t really fit in the other houses either, since he’s not super ambitious, he doesn’t really value intelligence (I like to imagine that he is intelligent, but he wouldn’t value it, which I personally view as being important in Hogwarts houses), and while he is loyal, he doesn’t value hard work or kindness, really. Thus, Gryffindor.
I think I got Slytherin house pretty spot on, ha. Junko is totally a Slytherin, given how she... literally created an entire killing game and deceived her entire class. If that’s not ambitious and cunning, I don’t know what is... I don’t know much about Mukuro, but I imagine she’d want to be with her sister if nothing else. Byakuya and Celeste are total Slytherins, given their ambition and drive for success.
Ravenclaw I was a bit confident about too, other than Hiro. But Kyoko definitely has big Ravenclaw vibes, with her inquisitive and sleuthing nature. She seems to be one to value intelligence, too. Chihiro is an intelligent character, who also values intelligence, so that also fits. Same with Toko, though I suppose she could possibly go with Slytherin... but I don’t view her as very ambitious, honestly, when you take away Genocide Jack/Jill, which I usually try to do (people with DID are not serial killers, thank you very much). Now, Hiro... this was one I was a bit stuck on. I contemplated putting him in Hufflepuff, since he has the whole, you know... stoner vibe, ha. But I think Ravenclaw does fit him. While he doesn’t have good grades and isn’t portrayed as being very intelligent, he is a talented clairvoyant in canon, and if he were in a world with divination, I firmly believe he’d be an excellent divination expert, which is a form of intelligence. He also has big Trelawney vibes, who is a Ravenclaw, ha.
The rest of Gryffindor I wasn’t super sold on, but I feel they fit. Sakura is certainly brave, even if she’s not super reckless. I think, though, that she’d want to be in Gryffindor and would ask the hat to put her there. Since she doesn’t have any strong ties to any other house (she is ambitious and loyal, but she’s not either thing above everything else), I think the hat would respect her wish. Leon I honestly wasn’t sure on, since I don’t know too much about him as a character, but I wanted him and Mondo in the same house, so... yeah. Plus, he has the whole rebel vibe, ha. Hina I almost had in Hufflepuff, but that would have messed up the 4 per house thing, so I changed her to Gryffindor. I do think it fits, though I don’t know too much about Hina, since I never finished playing the game and don’t know her later game character much. Early on, she seems to be one to be willing to fight for what she believes in, though, so Gryffindor would prolly fit.
Hufflepuff was also a bit of a struggle for me, but I think Makoto definitely fits. He’s very friendly and kind, as well as loyal, so I think Hufflepuff fits him well. Now, Sayaka and Hifumi... eh, I felt it fits a little, since neither really strikes me as having many qualities of the other houses, but I was not super sold on either. Sayaka is ambitious and can be cunning, but she just... doesn’t really strike me as a Slytherin, and I also don’t think she’d want to be placed there. Hufflepuff is more of a cutesy house (I say as a proud Hufflepuff, so don’t @ me), so I do think she’d like the house more. And with not having many qualities of the other houses other than Slytherin, I think the hat would also respect her wishes. Now, Hifumi... I had considered him for Ravenclaw (switching him and Hiro), but I just didn’t think that fit all too well. He doesn’t really have qualities of any of the houses, in my opinion, which then instantly would put him in Hufflepuff, since Hufflepuff is more than willing to take any student. Which I personally view as a good thing, ha, so please don’t think I’m putting down Hufflepuff.
~~~~~
Blood purity:
Now, the whole blood purity thing I didn’t put too much thought into other than who I think would be bigger with ‘muggle’ things than others, like Chihiro. Hiro I had be muggle born just ‘cause, though, ha. Most I had as half-blood, just because it seemed a good middle of the road thing. Junko and Mukuro are pureblood since Junko seems like she’d be a snob about it, while Byakuya and Celeste just have a single pureblood parent mostly because of a throw-away line in the fic I wrote, ha. I didn’t feel it mattered too much with all of the rest of the class other than Taka and Mondo, though, since blood-purity is kind of a meh thing.
However, with Mondo and Taka, I did put some thought into their blood purity.
Taka I had as a pureblood since I think it makes sense, given his cluelessness with popular culture in canon. This can translate well to him just not knowing muggle things. Also, I thought that having his grandfather be a Death Eater would also work out, as that would give him a very good reason to dislike the man and also gives him a big reason why he doesn’t want to be like him. It makes more sense than his grandfather being Minister of Magic and having a scandal, since during the time Taka was a child in this AU, Fudge was Minister of Magic, and then the other dudes whose names I forgot.
Mondo, though, I think would work best as a muggle born, especially considering his brother’s biker gang. I like to imagine that Daiya still has the gang in this AU and that Mondo would be at least an honorary member, so having Daiya be muggle worked out well. Plus, it would add to the IshiMondo dynamic, giving Mondo the ability to teach Taka about the muggle world, kind of like I have him teach Taka about popular culture and all that in my other IshiMondo fics.
~~~~~
Prefect defense:
Before going into the individual characters, I wanted to mention that I chose to have only one prefect per house mostly due to how few students are in the year. If there was one boy and one girl per house like in canon Harry Potter, that would be half the year as a prefect, which... makes no sense, ha. I was originally gonna have that before realizing that it made no sense. So, one per house in their year. That’s still a lot proportionally, but imagine the anger if one house had a prefect but another didn’t, so... yeah. While I like the idea that all of the class gets along well, there would still be some inter-house rivalry to consider.
Anyway... I’m sure most people who saw my list and saw that I made Mondo a prefect would be like “... wait, what?” and think I just had that as an IshiMondo thing. And while, yes, that is part of it, it’s not all of it. Given his position as Biker Gang Leader in canon, I do think that he would do well with responsibility, even despite his disinclination for rules and his quick temper, and all that. And considering that someone like James Potter was somehow made Head Boy, I know that the character being a perfect rule follower isn’t necessarily what gets them the badges. While Sakura would probably make a good prefect, I don’t think she’d want to be one, which is another thing to take into consideration.
I don’t think I have to explain why Taka is a prefect, ha.
Now, as for Kyoko and Celeste... with Kyoko, I felt she was the only one of the Ravenclaws I have that would actually be decent as a prefect. I mean... Toko and Chi are too timid, while Hiro is, well... Hiro. And as for Celeste... I actually originally had Byakuya as the Slytherin prefect, given how he’s definitely one who’d want the prestige of the title, but then I realized that there would be 3 boy prefects and only one girl. I think, given how each year in HP had one girl and one boy per house, that there would be an even girl/boy ratio with the prefects, even with the limited number of prefects in their year. Plus, Celeste seems like she’d do as good (or bad, ha) of a job as Byakuya.
~~~~~
And that’s about the extent of my musing on this all, ha. Honestly, I like the idea, and while I’m sure there are other Hogwarts/Danganronpa crossovers, I don’t think there are any IshiMondo ones. On AO3, at least. I know I didn’t have to sort all of the characters and put this much thought into it, since the fic I wrote was primarily focused on IshiMondo, but honestly? I do like the idea. And maybe, if other people like the idea too, I can write other Danganronpa/Hogwarts crossover fics, though I think it would mostly focus on IshiMondo, since I like Taka and Mondo best.
For those who stuck around this long, I’ll go briefly over the fic I wrote, if y’all are curious. Like I said, my main desire when writing was that I just wanted an IshiMondo Hogwarts story and that was my primary motivation. I set the story in fifth year, since I wanted to talk about Taka being a recent prefect. As writing, though, I had the idea of making Taka struggle to produce a patronus, given his canon problem with letting himself loosen up. Also, I always headcanon Taka as having had a pretty bleak childhood, which primarily comes from the fact that the creators said when they were coming up with his backstory, they had to stop since it got dark quick, oof. Going along with this, I then figured it would be cute to have Mondo help Taka with it, which brings the two closer. I didn’t want them to be friends or “brothers,” though, so it was kind of a mini “enemies to lovers” thing.
I didn’t want them to be totally at odds, though, so I also came up with a reason for them to go from enemies to kind of uneasy acquaintances before the fic took place. The reason I gave was that, in the end of their fourth year a few months before the fic started, they had faced a boggart in their defense against the dark arts class and Taka’s was his death eater grandfather, who told him he would never be good and that he was nothing more than a death eater like him, which made Taka cry. Mondo was like... oh shoot... and helped him out, saying that he was actually good, duh. Taka was freaked out by this, since he was like... wait, aren’t we enemies??? And also, you’re a trouble maker, why do I like you??? So he suppressed everything to prevent his fragile world view from crumbling. But Mondo was like... dude... I think I like Taka now, and maybe always did, wtf... which lead to Mondo cleaning up his act over the summer break, and then helping with the patronus in their fifth year.
Anyway! That was a bad explanation of the fic, but I really like it and I hope y’all do too, when I post it, ha. I mostly just need more Hogwarts IshiMondo in my life, tbh.
Sorry for the insanely long and rambling post! Hope someone got something out of it, ha. See y’all later!
OKAY IM FINALLY GONNA TELL YOU ABOUT THE AU I SHIFTED TO
IM WARNING YOU THIS IS GOING TO BE VERY LONG, AND FULL OF ME RANTING ABOUT MY OWN WEIRD IDEAS, SO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK
Like I said, it was the Danganronpa Actor Au I thought up, and I've written some of it down (I'm not gonna share though). There's a bunch of rarepair couples in it because I like rarepairs, but there's also some of the normal ones.
So they all attend Hope's Peak, With the SDR2 cast being the oldest ones, the DR1 cast being a year after them, the DRV3 cast being a year after *them*, and then Komaru, Yuta, Natsumi, and Kanon.
Komaru shares the title of SHSL Little Sister with Natsumi, Yuta is the SHSL Track Racer, and Kanon is the SHSL steamstress/tailor. I know Kanon's talent dosen't make much sense for her character, but we had to have a tailor in there somewhere.
Another thing about Kanon, she is Leon's sister instead of cousin, and her full name is Kanon Kuwata instead of Kanon Nakajima. And she is most definitely *not* madly in love with Leon.
Rantaro does have 12 younger sisters in this, and one of them is part of it, her name being Tetsu Amami, and feel free to ask any questions about her, as she does have an interesting backstory! If you want to picture what she looks like, she's almost the spitting image of Kanna Kizuchi. Also, she gets really close to Miu and Kokichi.
Speaking of Miu and Kokichi, they are literally best friends behind the scenes. Them and Tetsu. Inseparable.
Komaru is very protective over Makoto and Toko. Even before hope's peak, Makoto's family practically adopted Toko, due to her rough past. Natsumi is protective over Fuyuhiko and Peko, too, but they don't need as much protection.
Tenko does not hate men. She is nice to all.
Hifumi and Teruteru are not perverts, in any way behind the scenes. After filming, you can see Hifumi profusely apologizing to Sayaka and Sayaka being like "IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT". Same with Teruteru and Peko.
Izuru and Hajime are twins! Izuru has a personality, a great one in fact. Izuru is also exactly 14 minutes older than Hajime, and he will never let him live it down. Their Talents are SHSL Editor (Izuru) and SHSL Hairdresser (Hajime). I know they don't make any sense but hear me out: Izuru keeps his hair really long so Hajime could practice with it. And an editor is needed for the filming and everything, probably.
Izuru and Mahiru are the main camera men! Mahiru does the more difficult shots to film, and she taught Izuru how to film the easier things. They do eventually become a couple❤️
Celeste is quite nicer behind the scenes, actually. And the drills are not fake. That was Hajime's work. The accent is, though. Speaking of Celeste, Sonia is her blood related older sister from Noveselic! Her full name is Celestia Nevermind.
Chihiro's a bit different, too! He was originally a bit embarrassed about having to wear a skirt, but once he actually put it on, he felt like the king he is. He's also less timid and meek. He still is, of course, but if you offered him $50 if he said "Fuck", he would do it without hesitation, much to the surprise of literally everyone. Then he'd hold out his hand like "There, I said it. I want my money now."
Byakuya is not an asshole. He was at first, but he dropped it once he got close to everyone. It was Komaru that nudged him to drop it, so they are pretty close and Komaru also gives him her protection.
Tsumugi is the one who wrote all of the scripts, and pretty much came up with everything herself. We respect her for that in this Au.
Nagito and Mikan met a little while before Hope's Peak. They were friends when they arrived and joined their class.
Junko voiced all of the Monokuma's. All of them. Monokubs as well. She has really good voice talent, though being the SHSL Model. She did the "So long, bear well!" Thing with all five voices at once. It's literally scary, Chihiro once cried out of fear.
Hiyoko is not mean! At all! She's just as innocent as she looks, and didn't swear at all before they began to film. Fuyuhiko had to teach her how to swear without stuttering. Mahiru was horrified.
Although everyone is friends with pretty much everyone, there are a few little groups in them. The one of focus mostly is Tsumugi, Kaede, Shuichi, and Rantaro. Tsumugi killing off Rantaro and Kaede first, and it being her doing all along was just her being a friend:). Also love suites. Love suites were to just to torture poor Shuichi. They had to act them out. Not the actual...like...that..., Just the dialogues and the motions. Which are still pretty fucking embarrassing to act. Shuichi cried during the filming of a total of 6 love suites.
Himiko👏can👏do👏magic👏! Magic is real here. Himiko has been blessed with the magic. She can float things, and saw people in half, and escape water tanks and things like that. But there is truly no trick, only maaaagiiic.
Now for the part you all like: Tickles. Tickles happen very often. Very very often. Himiko actually had learned that she could tickle people with her Magic. Kokichi runs in the room with his class, screaming, telling them to run for their lives, for Himiko is unstoppable now. Nearly the whole class fucking books it out of the room, Maki, Kirumi, Kork, and Ryoma sitting there like "Aha I'm in danger", while Tsumugi and Angie laugh in not being ticklish.
Hrjsjjehejeheuahe thank you for reading this far and listening to my rant about my Alternative Universe Fantasies, everyone is 100% free to ask any questions!
This is my classpect master post for Danganronpa 1! I just replayed the game so it’s fresh in my mind, and I tried to keep these fairly short so I cut out some of the smaller details. Feel free to tell me what you like or what you don’t. I will be reblogging with thoughts about Touko and Genocider Sho. Also check out @jinjojess post about the DR1 classpects! I compared a lot of my thoughts with theirs!
Naegi Makoto - Witch of Heart
-actively manipulates feelings and sense of self. He is not very confident in himself, we know this from the beginning, and I think that manifests as acting as a Seer of Mind pretty often. It gets him pretty far in the trials, but his true talent lies in getting people on his side. Sayaka was into him before she even talked to him, and throughout the game people come to him for help concerning things to do with emotions and sense of self (Touko & Byakuya, Kiyotaka & Mondo twice). Not to mention, he’s labelled “ultimate hope”, which is due to him being able to boost everyone’s spirits (change their mood).
Asahina Aoi - Sylph of Hope
-passively heals positivity, possibilities, and beliefs. I really wanted to go with life for her, but while she’s full of energy, she’s not all that concerned about growth or overcoming obstacles, she just wants things to turn out well and that’s more in the realm of positivity and possibility. When Sakura’s secret was out, Aoi was most concerned with how to get the rest of them to believe her and to believe in Sakura; she needed to heal the group’s faith. She consistently believes in everyone, even though she is frequently disappointed, and the only exception to this is Byakuya and Touko after they insult Sakura.
Togami Byakuya - Prince of Life
-actively destroys growth and energy. His manner is very, very prince-like, “I’m the best and I can’t understand why no one else sees that”, not to mention he’s basically a literal prince of his family. He’s very quick to shoot people down and destroy their spirit, their energy, and during investigations he’s either no help at all, or antagonistic. All of the life players we’ve seen in HS have been on top of the food chain, the Peixes blood color and Jane’s Crocker corporation, which are both comparable to the Togami family. Before the killing game, he was most concerned with growing stocks, owning businesses, and obtaining knowledge he will use when he is the monarch of his family, which all seem life-like.
Celestia Ludenburg - Heir of Void
-passively changes misfortune and secrets. Originally I had her as light, but she doesn’t really care about information, only keeping secrets. She doesn’t use fortune to her favor, instead she just *is* luckier than the others, i.e. changing everyone else’s misfortune. She’s not actually that active though- she doesn’t do it on purpose and she doesn’t do a lot in general as she prefers to get others to do stuff for her. But she does play into the heiress persona, changing her name to seem like nobility and wanting dozens of servants.
Fujisaki Chihiro - Page of Doom
-actively exploits and is served restrictions and suffering. She is very clearly doom, as she is very empathetic due to her suffering in life, in addition to being a programmer when doom is linked to coding. I really can’t see anything else. Her being a page is also pretty clear- a slow growing class that tends to put up a facade, and is linked to a servant archetype when Alter Ego was basically the team’s servant. Her main desire is to help the rest of them even after her death through the restrictions that Alter Ego has.
Yamada Hifumi - Rogue of Light
-passively steals information and substance. I considered a number of possibilities for him, settling on light first. He has the rambley, self-important dialogue of a light player, he collects information about his interests in anime and fanfiction, and he creates fanfic. While creation isn’t light specific, taking the info and substance from an anime and rehashing it into his own stories sounds like a rogue of light. He is later a servant to Celeste, who feeds him lies and misfortune; he could be called a Page of Void at that point, which is fitting with Celestia’s void aspect.
Ishimaru Kiyotaka - Knight of Time
-passively exploits and serves through time. He’s very strict about time, being on time and using time wisely. Not just for himself though, he wants everyone to hold the same policies he has. He wants to have an environment where everyone is able to give it their all- he wants to exploit the time he has in order to serve everyone. His inversion is Thief of Space, and I think we see this in “Kiyondo Ishida”, as he seems to steal Alter Ego’s creation to add another dimension to himself. And- this is just my opinion- I also think he ghosts his inversion pretty often even before that, due to the impact of the disreputation of his grandfather and his vehement dislike of “geniuses”.
Kirigiri Kyouko - Maid of Mind
-actively creates and heals logic and decisions. She eluded me for a while tbh. I thought light first, but while she focuses on finding the truth, other information isn’t as important, and she doesn’t seem to match any other markers of light. Instead she seems more like Terezi, a mind player who likes law and detective work. Kyouko creates a path of decisions that surround a crime, and she uses logic to help Makoto make the right choices. She is outwardly cold and focuses on controlling her emotions, which makes me suspect she ghosts her inversion as a Bard of Heart due to her lost sense of self.
Kuwata Leon - Rogue of Breath
-passively steals and relocates freedom and direction. I understand him to have only come into himself recently. I think for most of his life he was ghosting as a Page of Blood, getting served bonds and obligations that he didn’t really want but exploiting them so he was free to do things other than study. When he was accepted at Hope’s Peak, he finally took his freedom and decided that he was going to do what he was driven to do, which is pursuing music. Rogue also fits into the outcast archetype of his alternative/punk style of clothes and personality.
Oowada Mondo - Bard of Blood
-passively destroys bonds and obligations. Blood is everything to him, his brother and his gang are most important, and his word and his promises are solid. But his brother died for his recklessness, he lied about it, he killed Chihiro which exposed her secret even though he tried to cover it up, and he broke Taka’s spirit when he died. He destroys the bonds around him passively, without meaning to, and his secret and his act of killing were both fairly out of the blue. No one really expected that of him- certainly not Kiyotaka, and that fits a bard’s MO.
Oogami Sakura - Maid of Blood
-actively creates relationships and bonds. She is defined by her bond to her family and her bond to her destiny. She is devoted to growing stronger, which made me think life, but she’s growing stronger to fulfill her duty and keep the respect of her family, not to overcome obstacles. That aspect though, the desire to help everyone else become stronger too, that’s very maid/sylph. She’s fairly passive, but definitely not passive enough for sylph, and she tends to focus more on creating new bonds especially regarding ones with herself, rather than healing preexisting ones.
Maizono Sayaka - Mage of Void
-actively knows misfortune and secrets. She tells Makoto that she’s known from a young age that she will have to do anything to reach her dreams, and she acts on her understanding of that misfortune which leads to her death. She focuses more on the misfortune and nothingness part of void, acutely understanding that if she falls out of relevancy, she’s done for. She also jokes with Makoto about being a psychic, knowing his unheard thoughts, which plays into the prophet archetype of a Mage, and knowing the unknown.
**Fukawa Touko & Genocider Sho - Page of Heart & Bard of Heart
-actively exploits and is served emotions and self-identity. Touko… has some issues. She is very concerned about herself, who she is, and how she’s perceived, which is the trademark of a heart player. She is actually good at using emotions to get what she wants. She gets people to stay away from her but also be concerned about her at the same time, not to mention she managed to get Byakuya to let her tail him around which I still don’t understand how. She keeps a strong facade up due to her insecurities and necessary caution due to Genocider Sho.
-passively destroys sense of self and emotions. Sho destroys emotions in a literal sense, by killing anyone she “crushes” on, and she destroys Toko’s sense of self through emotions by leaving her to come to at murder scenes, therefore forcing her to stay paranoid and keep a huge secret. Doesn’t really do it intentionally, as Sho tells Makoto that it’s the same thing as a soccer player kicking a ball, it’s just nature.
Hagakure Yasuhiro - Seer of Hope
-passively understands possibilities and beliefs. Even when he’s pessimistic, he’s optimistic by everyone else’s standards. He is always able to see some better possibility… whether it’s true or whether others believe him remains to be seen. He definitely fits the somewhat far-fetched but unshakable beliefs profile that Hope players have. And he’s definitely knowledgeable about his, uh, profession in a way that seers usually are.
Ikusaba Mukuro - Knight of Space
-passively exploits and serves through space. This was a hard one, partly because we don’t see a lot of her, so it’s long; I used a lot of process of elimination and, well, vibes. Space is about physical matter, size and location, creation, and beginnings. At an early age, she ditched her family in Europe in order to join an elite mercenary group in the Middle East. She is extremely proficient in hand-to-hand, melee, and ranged combat, though she admits that she was never good at planning ahead and strategizing. She was also able to accurately portray Junko, the Ultimate Fashionista. Those three things point me towards space, as her past is about location and beginnings, ranged weapons are about distance, planning ahead is about time which is her opposite, and acting as her sister is an act of creation and physicality, not to mention that clothes have a link to the space aspect as well. Most of the classes don’t really fit her, but the little personality she has is devoted to serving her sister, serving her organization before that, and in DR IF, serving Makoto. Knights are also fighters, obviously.
Enoshima Junko - Thief (Lord?) of Rage
-actively steals rage and limitations. Junko is a lot. Just, a lot. I’m actually leaning towards giving her the “Lord” title because honestly, the level of embodiment that she has over the rage aspect is unparalleled. But I just don’t know enough about the master classes for me to feel comfortable enough with that. So I’m going with thief instead. She definitely gets off on everyone else’s despair and sets them up so they have limited possibilities in the killing game. She takes from them and takes from them and leaves them with some hope just to finally steal that too.
This is going to be my feelings/opinions towards all of the main characters in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. This is directly related to my interpretation of events in the series! If you disagree with my thoughts/feelings that’s totally cool but this isn’t meant to be a debate!
A lot has been going on right now and I don’t have the energy to do much digital art right now, so I figured I’d just open up a little more about one of my favorite series! Maybe I’ll do my opinions on characters for the other games next.
** This post will contain information that will spoil the series for you, so continue at your own risk**
Makoto Naegi:
Honestly I really like Makoto. He is really average but honestly I think that’s what makes him so appealing. Not only that, but he comes off with a type of charisma that only “average” people can pull off. He has a base knowledge on a variety of subjects that allows him to talk to the other students. That and I find the concept of his “luck” very interesting. Also, side note, but that sprite of him focusing with his finger under his chin is probably one of my most favorite DR sprites ever. It’s just so cute! (I might redraw it someday hehe)
10/10
Aoi Asahina:
While I adore Hina, I really wish that they would have made her more than just a ditzy character who was obsessed with donuts in this game. I loved her energy though! Her interactions with everyone always made me smile. My appreciation for her character just increased exponentially after watching the Despair Arc of Danganronpa 3. All in all I’m super glad that her character survived in THH.
8/10
Byakuya Togami:
Honestly, I have mixed feelings about Byakuya. I think he’s a great antagonistic character, truly, but beyond that I’m not sure. I definitely think that his character is humbled throughout the course of the game, and in later games/animes he seems a lot less asshole-ish, but I’m not sure if I like him or hate him. I guess that just goes to show just how great he is as an antagonist. One thing I thought was hilarious though was how he casually admitted to being a true-crime nerd. I’m really glad he survived because I think his “talent” was really important for the Future Foundation.
6/10
Celestia Ludenberg:
Okay so real talk, I used to be a huge Celestia fan when I first stumbled across the series. But now, I don’t really like her character all that much. I think that out of all of the killers in THH her motive was the most shallow and that really is terrible considering how much potential she had. Her disconnect with her true identity could have made for an interesting character arc. And I really hate how they gave her literally the most complicated murder scheme when it would make sense for her to take a little risk as possible. Her character design is really cute though.
5/10
Chihiro Fujisaki:
I think Chihro’s death was one of the hardest for me in the game. I played through all of his freetime events and was super attached to him (I know, a horrible idea in a game like DR), and as soon as he died I was just in shock. One thing I love about how they portrayed his character was truly allowing the brilliance of Chihiro shine through even after his death. He created the AI that not only helped aid in their escape, but ultimately saved Makoto's life. I also really liked the juxtaposition of Chihiro and Mondo (the seemingly weaker one ultimately being stronger after all). All in all, Chihiro is a great character.
10/10
Hifumi Yamada:
I’m not really a fan of Hifumi, but I definitely think he gets wayy too much hate or just gets overlooked completely. I think that the creators leaned a bit too far into the stereotypes for him, and that made him come off as stiff and just… there. I knew from the very beginning that he wouldn’t survive, and honestly he’s the only character I had that feeling with (minus Leon). There are some quirks about him that I like, though, like how he never fails to refer to the others politely.
4/10
Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
So I originally found Taka annoying but after playing THH again he became one of my favorite characters. I find his enthusiasm adorable and his free time events boosted my admiration of him. He’s the only Ultimate that makes a conscious effort to prove himself and not rely on his prodigy-type status. And his relationship with Mondo, albeit short-lived, was so pure. It was so obvious to me that he was happy to have a friend (because Mondo is the first friend he’s ever had), and having that suddenly ripped away and listening to his desperation at the end of chapter 2 made me sob.
10/10
Kyoko Kirigiri:
Kiri’s background made me feel really sad for her. I first thought she was just the aloof, cold, smart type that was a bit snobbish. But then you realize that she’s been raised to not be in the spotlight, to work alone and without credit behind the scenes. Detective work is basically her birthright and she’s clung to that like a vice. Her character development throughout the game was really nice, and I think her and Makoto are super cute for each other. The side plot with her and her dad in DR3 made me really sad, too. I really liked overall that she was unapologetically holding true to her beliefs, even if it made her come off as cold. She was a solid, strong female character.
8/10
Leon Kuwata:
It was super obvious from the beginning that Leon was gonna die. There was 0 attachment to his character for me and he just came off as just...kinda there. I don’t really have much to say about him, other than that I’m not a fan.
1/10
Mondo Owada:
Mondo was such a big sweetheart in his freetime events. I thought his character was really well rounded and I was so sad that he ended up killing Chihiro. Despite that, I thought it worked really well for the story and played off of both of their weaknesses. Again I really loved his friendship with Taka, and having it formed and ended so quickly surprisingly hurt.
8/10
Sakura Oogami:
Honestly I didn’t like how they made her character the spy, because it seemed ridiculously out of character for her. Honestly I think this would be something better suited to Celeste, as she would view it as a way to increase her chances of living if she’s in “kahoots” with him. I dunno, I think the spy thing was unnecessary anyways. I loved her character though and her friendship with Hina was super cute. I also loved how they mentioned that she wanted to embrace her femininity while also not wanting to give up being the strongest person in the world.
7/10
Sayaka Maizono:
Honestly even though I’m not the biggest fan of Sayaka I really like the role she played at the beginning and I think they played it off perfectly. Her desperation fueled by the fear and harsh reality that comes along show business and easily being forgotten really works in the narrative. She seemed like a well-rounded character but I think that if she had lasted past chapter 1 I would have liked her less. All in all her character did a great job of kicking off everything.
6/10
 Toko Fukawa:
I hate how they portrayed her character in THH, but her obsessive and odd behavior (outside of her split personality) is easily explained by her traumatic past. She obviously has a warped sense of what “love” is, and that plus her intense delusions turned into obsession for Byakuya. I started loving her character a lot more in UDG, when she started becoming more well rounded and open around Komaru.
Also, I loved Genocider Syo’s personality. While I obviously don’t condone serial murders, I think that her character is extremely interesting. She doesn’t try and condone her own actions, admitting there is no rhyme or reason. Plus I think it’s really interesting that she considers herself a “professional” and is incredibly particular about the details.
Overall 6/10 in THH
Yasuhiro Hagakure:
I feel like Hiro gets a lot of shit as a character because they think he doesn’t contribute anything. I think he adds a lot of much-needed comic relief. Also I think that everyone glosses over the fact that once Taka goes silent he actually tries to encourage him to speak up again. And then tries to do his part and keep everyone together and upbeat. I really think that Hiro is a fun character who deserves more love, even though I can’t say he’s one of my favorites.
7/10
Mukuro Ikusaba:
I wish Mukuro’s personality would have been able to actually show through in the game. The only glimpse we really see of it is in the bonus school mode while she is still posing as Junko. I wish in the anime they’d have harped less on her odd obsession with Junko and focused more on her internal struggle. I think her character has potential but I can’t say I was particularly attached to her (I suppose that was kind of the point, though).
4/10
Junko Enoshima:
Junko is probably one of the most well-written villains I have ever seen in a series. At first I thought it didn’t make sense, and was confused how one person could have so much influence on a mass amount of people. Then it was revealed in later installments that Ultimate Fashionista was not her real talent, just a cover she forged for herself to help her blend in to the school. Her real ultimate talent as the Ultimate Analyst allowed her to predict people’s actions and more importantly, their reactions. Her innate ability and incurable boredom made her seek out something unpredictable: despair and chaos. I think what made me love her as a villain was the line “You can’t argue with me, because there's no reason for anything that I do.”
As a villain I give her 15/10. If I were to rank her as a person? -11037/10
Overall Opinion:
I really find most of the characters charming but it’s super obvious when comparing this game to the others that these characters were not as fleshed out as characters in other games. I found it hard to be super attached to most of them and felt that some of their actions were really uncharacteristic. However I really do like the characters and what they add to the story, even if some of it doesn’t add up completely. I’m the least attached to these characters out of all of the characters in the DR series, although there are obviously some exceptions. I think there couldn’t have been a better opening cast of characters.
TMA x Persona 5 crossover
I’m combining my newest obsession with one of my favorite games ‘cause I love playing the game “what characters from X series would belong to Y category from Y series”
So...
Persona 5, but all the characters belong to different entities from the Magnus Archives (Note: this’ll be based off of the original game, as I have not been able to afford the new release of Royal, and so have not played it yet.) Main Cast: Akira/Ren: Beholding. I debated for a long time about what to pick. What fit the protagonist better? Did his attempts to appear harmless mean he was better suited for the Spiral and it’s deceptions? Or does the fact that he’s a Wild Card able to mold himself into anything his friends needs align him with the Stranger? Or does his anger at unjust treatment give him the greatest connection to the Slaughter, or the Desolation? In the end I went with Beholding not only because that’s what I made the Velvet attendants, but because the Beholding also witnesses all the other entities. It has ties to all of them, even the Stranger which is it’s antithesis along with the Dark. It would make sense that he would have access, have KNOWLEDGE, of all the other entities under this power. Ryuji: The Vast. I almost gave him the Lonely, as after Kamoshida broke his leg he was isolated from his peers, but Ryuji doesn’t WANT to be alone. None of the other entities felt right. The Flesh is too literal, the Web requires more smarts than this boy has, the Corruption makes no sense and so on. I eventually went with the Vast because Ryuji always talks about freedom, and how running made all of his worries fade away, how it helped him connect to his other teammates. Avatars of the Vast have a very laid back look on life and are by far some of the most friendly you can run into, though it doesn’t make them any less dangerous.
Morgana: Beholding. I was originally thinking about whether to make him a Spiral creature or maybe the Stranger, but I realized that whatever Morgana was, then the other velvet room attendants would have to be it as well. And Igor’s JOB is to know things and help guide the player without actually interfering. He can’t belong to anything BUT the Beholding.
Ann: The Stranger: I wasn’t super sure about this one, as the Stranger relies heavily on deception-which Ann is NOT good at-but looking back at all the statements that involve it, it’s evident that it doesn’t try to be GOOD at deception either. How would you know something’s not right if the act was perfect? And as a model, Ann needs to be able to put on different attitudes in order to have presence.
Yusuke: The Spiral. I wasn’t sure which one to give to Yusuke originally. Again, the Lonely was my original thought, as his eccentricities make it hard for him to connect to other people, but being isolated is something that happens TO him, not something he pursues. Yusuke says that he wants to inspire people the way the Sayuri did for him, wants to show the world in new ways. And what better Entity/Patron to follow then the one that does exactly that? The spiral is about fooling the senses, making you see things that aren’t there or perceiving things in impossible ways. What better way is there to describe how art is supposed to make people feel?
Makoto: This girl belongs to the Hunt. You might think the Slaughter because of the rage she feels at being treated like a doormat but nope! That’s her sister. Her sense of justice makes her pursue her prey. She stalks Akira, set traps for him and the Phantom thieves. Not to mention that she wants to be a cop-which tend to lean towards the Hunt due to pursuing criminals. Futaba: Beholding all the way. This girl wants to Know everything, wants to Understand above all. While her vision might have been clouded by grief after her mother’s death, she still Knew they were lying to her and pursued the truth relentlessly.
Haru: Slaughter. I don’t think I have to explain this one do I? Girl canonically has sadistic tendencies, and while one COULD argue that Sadism fits the Desolation better, she doesn’t destroy for destruction’s sake.
Akechi: Desolation. I was originally going to give this boy the Slaughter like Haru due to his anger, until I realized that the anger wasn’t the point. It was directed at Shido. At building him up as high as possible just to take it all away from him. That’s quintessential Desolation mentality. The Desolation is about loss more than fire, and Akechi is determined to make Shido lose EVERYTHING, and believes anything destroyed in that process will be worth it, just to see the expression on his father’s face as he pulls the rug out from under him.
Confidants:
Sadayo Kawakami: Victim of the Buried. Not just because of her debt, but also because of her guilt. The Buried can be metaphorical as well as physical, and Kawakami is an excellent example of that. Sae Nijima: Slaughter. Her anger and tendency to lash out at Makoto are what made me decide on this Entity. She isn’t an Avatar. Like Melanie, she was infected with it and was slowly becoming more and more angry and violent.
Sojiro Sakura: Hunt. He’s been out of the game for a while, so the instincts have largely gone away, but as Wakaba’s friend he learned a lot and that knowledge has helped him keep Futaba safe.
Munehisa Iwai: Slaughter. Former Yakuza? Of course it’s Slaughter; but taking in Kaoru and leaving his clan cut him off from the entity and nowadays he’s just a normal human.
Toranosuke Yoshida: Victim of the Lonely. Being evicted from congress isolated him and left everyone unwilling to listen to him.
Ichiko Ohya: the Dark. It doesn’t fit perfectly. The Dark is about hiding information, not publishing it;  but in game her abilities allow you to move around undetected, and her articles help your reputation. I almost went with the Spiral considering how she deceives people, but the characters don’t all need to be Avatars who symbolize their patron. I see it more likely that Ohya is a victim of the Dark, as Shido’s organization is trying to keep her from the truth.
Chihaya Mifune: Web. As a genuine fortune teller it only makes sense that she would be aligned with the Weavers.
Tae Takemi: The End. Enough said.
Shinya Oda: The Hunt. He’s always searching for weaknesses, whether that’s in his competitors or the enemies in game.
Hifumi Togo: The Web. Not only do her abilities allow you greater control over battes, but she’s also caught in the Web of her mother’s making when she’s trying to turn Hifumi into a model.
Yuki Mishima: The Corruption. Mishima uses his ‘position’ as the Phantom Thieves manager to try and gain others respect and take advantage of people. Corruption isn’t always about literal filth and decay, so I think this kind of moral Corruption would definitely put him under this Entities gaze.
Igor: Beholding. I explained this earlier in Morgana’s part, but Igor just fits the Beholding. He has knowledge that he shares with the player to aid in their journey, but he never interferes, never takes action.
Caroline: The Slaughter. I know I said that all the Velvet attendants would be beholding, but I thought that since the twins were two halves of one person, it would be interesting if their Patrons were different to reflect her broken nature. Justine: The End. I wanted to originally go for something different, like the Lonely or the Web. But Justine is a lot calmer than her sister, almost emotionless, and most of all she’s PATIENT, which is a trademark of the End.
Lavenza: Beholding. As a Velvet attendant, she shares the same Patron as Igor.
Palace Rulers: Kamoshida: The Flesh. At first I didn’t know which Entity to give him. Should it be the Hunt, considering his lustful pursuit of the girls? Or maybe the Buried as he tries to pressure Ann into sleeping with him, using Shiho to keep her at his side. I eventually settled on the Flesh because even though Kamoshida was willing to do anything to get Ann as soon as possible and hurt Shiho when she turned him down in retaliation, the Hunt will never stop their pursuit because THAT’S THE FUN PART. There is no end for them. Kamoshida did want to catch Ann.
Madarame: The Spiral. I was originally going to go with the Lonely since he isolates his students, but other than that surface comparison, Madarame has no connection to the Lonely. He relied far more heavily on deceiving his students and tricking them into thinking that they owe him their artwork due to his mentoring them.
Kaneshiro: The Corruption. I mean, he turns into a fly. What more is there to say, except that he possesses the same moral corruption that infects Mishima?
Okumura: The Buried. I originally went with the Flesh, but it felt far too literal. I eventually settled on the Buried as Okumura oppresses his workers and smothers them under exhaustion and debt to the company to keep them in line.
Shido: The Web. I thought about going with the Beholding as a sort of parallel to both the protagonist and Jonah Magnus from TMA, but Shido doesn’t want knowledge. He wants control, to exert his will on the masses, and that’s Web, not Beholding. Yaldabaoth: The Web. The ultimate expression of manipulation. Father of Puppets.
Note
adding onto that other homestuck question u got, what are your hc's for their blood colors, if they were trolls? Some I see fitting blood colors that match w/ their zodiac, like Taka, but others don't really fit the blood color associated w/ theirs, like Byakuya being a Taurus = bronzeblood.
I’ve actually thought a bit about this before! From what I have heard, astrological signs aren’t as big a thing in Japan as they are in America, so there have been some times when I’ve looked at the official astrological signs for characters and just kinda had a flat “no” reaction to it. Like, Jotaro Kujo as an Aquarius? Absolutely. Jonathan Joestar as an Aries? Nope.
I think Byakuya would definitely be Violet. He has a massive superiority complex and definitely says stuff that sounds like things Eridan would say (I’m keeping THH as Alternia and GD as Beforus), like that comment he has in school mode that very unfortunately sounds like he’s talking about ethnic cleansing.
Due to their association with psychic powers, I could see Sayaka being a goldblood! Although some of her sprites remind me of Aradia, for some reason?
I’m kinda doing this out of order because Byakuya was the first one I thought of, but I’d always thought that Hina had a similar personality to Nepeta, or maybe closer to Meulin? Potentially because I think she’s also a Heart player. I think Chihiro’s friendship with Mondo is close to how Equius & Nepeta’s moirailegiance is, or maybe like how Meulin & Horuss are? But the Homespectrum section of the Homestuck wiki said that Olivebloods tends to have assassination type jobs which. I just. Did not remember. I gotta reread Homestuck, lol.
Okay, about Jadebloods: “Jade Signs are the zodiac’s caretakers. Intelligent and steady, they are excellent organizers and planners. They are detail-oriented, and can tend toward perfectionism, never satisfied with their endeavors. If you hire on a Jade Sign, be prepared for an excellent product, but also no peace until that project is flawless. They are fussy and particular, which can cause friction with those around them, although a Jade Sign holds no one to as high a standard as they hold themselves.”
So. That’s definitely Taka! And I think that it’s especially cool how that fits his canonical astrological sign, although his birth date was meant as a joke.
I’ve seen people drawing Taka before as Tealblood, and that does make a certain kind of sense since he is drawn to justice, but I think I would place this one as Kyouko. Being involved in legal-type stuff is apparently a, like, requirement of their blood type, and Kyouko went into being a detective because it runs in her family.
Celes is Cerulean: “Let’s not mince words: Blue Signs are the ones to watch. Of all the sign classes, they have the potential to do the most good, but also cause the worse harm. They can be incredibly effective, and also incredibly destructive. Tell a Blue Sign this and chances are they would agree with you. They are magnetic and adaptive, able to adjust how they present themselves in any situation. They have a mask for every occasion. They are obsessively dedicated, willing to throw themselves into work, play, and everything in between. Because of this, Blue Signs are highly valuable allies and friends. However, they are very selective when it comes to who they let into their inner circle. You could be best friends with a Blue Sign and still never truly know them. They are powerful and successful, but they also tend toward jealousy. They often resent those they see as more well-positioned than they are. A well-adjusted Blue Sign is fantastically competent and inspiring, but a Blue Sign at their worst is a force for chaos.”
I’m sure the comparison between Celes and Vriska has been drawn, but for whatever it’s worth, I think Ardata Carmia is a closer fit. I’d go into details, but that would constitute Hiveswap Friendsim spoilers so I won’t!
Reading about Indigo signs, Im kind of surprised to say this but I think that may fit Hiro best. Excitable, changing their tastes in an instant (I was thinking of that time when he says something about like, “my character wasn’t fully developed then!”), tactless comments and flailing limbs (his jacket, oh god), digging their heels in to insist they did nothing wrong when they hurt peoples’ feelings.
I’m going to say flat-out that Junko is Fuschia because Meenah and HIC definitely fit Junko.
Makoto…if I opted to make him a troll instead of a human, would probably make him mutated blood, for his role as the leader and having uniting forces among his friend group and would probably be the one most likely to form bonds outside the boundaries of quadrants. But I could also see this fitting Mukuro, because there’s not much we know about her and Junko would absolutely hold her being a mutant over her head to manipulate her.
Now, for who I have left…. there’s
LeonChihiroMondo HifumiSakuraToko
I think Toko could maybe be Burgandy. She has a lot of self-esteem issues in regards to her looks that I think would translate well into the Homestuck ‘verse as self-esteem issues relating to the hemospectrum and her likelihood to be culled. I could also see Burgandy working well for Chihiro, because of its relationship to ghosts. I feel like I’ve seen people headcanon her as Bronzeblood, mostly so they can have a thing about Mondo as cerulean killing her and that…I just do not think is fair to compare Chihiro & Mondo’s relationship to that of Vriska & Tavros’. They have completely different contexts to them.
Alongside Makoto, I would actually probably make Sakura & Leon humans. I’m not sure where on the hemospectrum that they would fit. Maybe Leon would be Violet as well? He doesn’t really ring a lot of the same bells as Eridan, but I could see him being more like Cronus, maybe. Or even a bronzeblood as Rufioh: an equal opportunity himbo.
I would not put Mondo as a Purple blood at all. I know that’s common because “ohhhh big violent big scary!” but Mondo really isn’t a wildcard, I don’t read him as a Rage player and I don’t think he’d be that high up on the hemospectrum. I could see Junko fitting as the wildcard with ridiculously strong psychic powers who fucks with the timeline enough to ruin things for literally everybody. I know I already said she was Fuschia for being like Meenah or HIC, but I think the purple description fits her as well. Maybe she’d be the Gamzee (or Kurloz, given that he was capable at brainwashing) with Mukuro as the hands-off Fuschia blood, more like Feferi?
I saw someone draw Hifumi as bronzeblood before, but like Sakura and Leon I don’t really see anyone I think he really fits in terms of parallels. It’s something that I guess would make sense if you have Celes-as-Vriska but I’m not sure comparing him to Tavros is fair. So for the bronzeblood…I don’t know, I guess Mondo? I could see Mondo being Indigo, as he clearly has some kind of magnetism to be able to run that gang - he just wouldn’t be a particularly well-adjusted Indigoblood. He is careless - at least emotionally - and sometimes is unintentionally tactless. I would only put him as Bronze because Gundham isn’t in this game and he’s the closest we get to someone who might be able to commune with animals.
Hbu, what do you think?
Blegh
In terms of Persona 5 I’d been riding high mostly since P5D. I’d been positive mostly over it because P5D and fan-generated content had been lovely overall and really engaging and enjoyable. It had helped me forget that the main game itself seriously does upset me at times and I have a less than ideal opinion of it.
*Sigh*
Now I’m starting to feel like that again. Both announcements of today have left brought back to mind some of my biggest problems with Persona 5 and the way Atlus writes in general. What are they? A bit of a lesson then in me;
For myself there are three events in Persona 5 that I really REALLY just consider outright despicable. In no order they are; 1) Two homosexual adult males being negatively stereotyped as child molesters targeting Ryuji 2) Ryuji’s friends responding to one of the greatest acts of selflessness in the entire story by physically abusing Ryuji and 3) The Valentine’s Day event making Canon that Akira/Ren is horrible, Sojiro is horrible and that Atlus thinks all the girls are vapid idiots.
‘Magical Valentine’ raises an issue I’ve always had but makes it even more forceful. You see in the game the Valentine’s Event is only ‘optionally’ canon. You can play a canonical run-through and not have it occur. So you can, legitimately, without needing headcanon or fanon, just have your own canon playthrough in which the girls are not vapid idiots. The anime however, now, makes it that, for the Animation, it is canon that Akira/Ren is an awful person and that the girls are vapid idiots. Oh and that Sojiro is just literally the worst like...like he is scum in this event. As bas as Akira/Ren is (and he’s bad in this version!) the bigger problem I think a LOT of people forget about the Valentine’s Harem Route is that it literally casts Sojiro as a Guardian of Futaba who would lie to conceal her boyfriend’s infidelities...even when said infidelities LITERALLY CAUSE FUTABA TO CRY!
So the animation is now making it canon that; 1) Akira/Ren sees no reason he has to be honest or forthright with any females in his life 2) Sojiro holds such low regard for his daughter he will aide Akira/Ren in an ongoing deception and emotional manipulation of her RIGHT AFTER SHE OVERCAME A SUICIDAL PHASE OF HER LIFE and 3) That Ann, Makoto, Futaba, Haru, Takemi, Kawakami, Ohya, Hifumi and Chihaya all fall in love with the exact same person and are literally when confronted with incontervertible evidence of his infedilities not only tricked into instantly accepting that them all bringing him chocolate on Valentine’s Day was a ‘misunderstanding’ but, in the case of the Phantom Thieves members, this has so little impact on them that mere days later they have no reaction.
AKA the ending Valentine’s Harem Route basically says: “Akira/Ren successfully cheated on all the girls in his life, and is free to continue to do so since they are so stupid that they could be convinced to assume it was a ‘misunderstanding’ even under the most blatantly false of pretext,” the ending basically gives carte blanche to say that Akira/Ren will probably keep cheating on the women in his life because, well, they’re so stupid that even if they all end up right in front of him, confessing their love for him to each other’s faces...they somehow think this was a ‘misunderstanding’?
That’s gonna be canon now for the animation. Not ‘optional’ canon, just...just outright canon. Literally everything in the Canon is soured now. Did you like Ren’s bond with Ann in the foregoing episodes? Well bad news; Ren literally is willing to commit to an intimate relationship with her and then emotionally cheat on her with several different women at once. Did you like how Ren played a pivotal role in building Futaba’s character and helping her grow out of her emotional turmoil? Well sucks for you cause Ren is literally willing to lie to this girl’s face and tell her he loves her whilst carrying on behind her back with numerous other women.
It sort of goes without saying that this kinda wrecks P5A completely since, canonically, Akira/Ren is now just an irredeemable asshole and the female characters are reduced to stock harem-style idiot love interests with basically 0 individuality because everyone has to love the Protagonist (self-insert!).
But when you think about it even in the original game...this was a problem. Sure you could choose not to do it...but you could also choose to do it. This means, technically, as far as Atlus’ writing is concerned, canonically Akira/Ren has it in him to be a complete asshole with no respect for women or his friends...and the females in the game are all vapid idiots. That’s technically canon since that’s required for the Valentine’s Route to work.
Oh, also, that Sojiro is the worst. The worst.
The Valentine’s Harem Event, like the Ryuji abusing event post Shido’s Palace. does irrevocable damage to the characters and the content itself, kinda ruining it since for it to be canon...well it means the characters are terrible people or stupid. Why I sort of have to choose to ignore them to actually like the story.
Of course what does all this writing have in common? It’s a JOKE! Haha! Ryuji’s being abused, isn’t this funny? Haha! The girls are all vapid idiots and Joker’s such a chick magnet they have no varying tastes in partner at all! Haha! Gay men want to force Ryuji to undress for them!
Isn’t this funny? I mean, no, of course not. In almost all these cases the ‘humour’ is...someone suffering. A common retort I then see is; it’s not canon, its just for a joke.
But the problem is it is, all, strictly canon. I could definitely understand if these things were packaged as clear ‘not canon’ events.
Here’s an example; the Blazblue game series has ‘joke’ endings which are explicitly not canon but usually feature bizarre or ‘funny’ scenes. One of said scenes is a reoccuring bit in which the protagonist Ragna is made to wear glasses that causes the female cast to all fall in love with him. Putting aside the fact for the moment that, to me, this still isn’t funny since its treating the Mind Rape of the entire female cast as a ‘joke’ the fact remains that it is, however, not canon. The creators make sure that nothing that happens here technically infringes on or diminished the canon character content by making it explicitly non-canon.
Persona 5, both the game and now the Animation, take no such efforts. There are no efforts to make clear that Ryuji being beaten up is a ‘comedic non-canon overreaction’ or that Akira/Ren being a womanizing prick and Sojiro being the WORST are just ‘comedic non-canon skits’ all these are played as explicitly, irrefutably, canon. That is how the characters are, as far as Atlus is concerned. That is their opinions, their beliefs etc.
Is it weird that P5 Dancing has the best, most wholesome, most healthy characterization of the entire Persona 5 Franchise? I suppose maybe the mangas are good to, I must admit I’ve never read any of them since from what I can tell Ryuji is basically ignored in all of them in favour of focus on the girls.
Atlus has a writing problem and that problem is centered I fear on a simple fact; the protagonist is a self-insert who is assumed to be a self-insert for a very specific formula; a young male who sees female characters as things he wishes to collect for himself and wants to feel adored by. Almost all of the major writing problems stem from this; Girls seem exploited or turned into vapid haremettes? Well, obviously, gotta appeal to that ‘chick magnet’ fantasy. Homosexuality is cast as negative or frightning? Well, obviously, the fantasy being appealed to is explicitly heterosexual in nature, everything else is ‘icky’. Other males seem to constantly be the butt of a joke or consistently shown up compared to the protagonist? Naturally since the fantasy is about making the player feel like ‘the man’ and all other men are simply lame by comparison so that the girls will only love the protagonist (the self-insert).
What really bums me out about all of this is that Atlus can write such amazing scenes as Ryuji’s ‘the place I belong is next to you,’ but then in that same game or anime have the Valentine’s Event and the Ship scene. I imagine in part this is due to it being a game first, story second, so they feel there are ‘beats’ that need to be there (the loser must be made fun of, the protagonist must get all the girls) even if, from a storyboarding point of view...it just makes the characters look A) Very inconsistent in personality and attitude (Ren’s infamous standing up for a stranger being assaulted but then instantly refusing to step in to help Ryuji in Shinjuku) or B) Like massive asshats (The entire Valentine’s Event from Ren and Sojiro’s perspectives.
It is just...its sad. I want to like this story because there is legitimately good characters and writing but...in the name of appealing to the lowest common denominator it gets weighted down by stuff which is explicitly canon and makes the characters awful.
It really makes it tough to like it at times.
*Sigh*
At the end of the day I don’t know how to handle this. Accepting its canon makes a lot of people awful or stupid. Headcanoning it away is fine but...then I gotta accept I don’t like Persona 5 per say, I like what I, or other fans, create from Persona 5.
Also can we please just be able to date Ryuji. Please Atlus. We don’t need another female character to be another fangirl for Joker, to be another vapid idiot who can be duped by the WORST Sojiro, please Atlus, please. Please. There are ENOUGH love interests Atlus, please try perhaps instead stop treating women like little toys for a protagonist to effortlessly collect and dupe.
Watching all the Persona 5 Girls (sans Sae) in the Valentine’s Event is painful. They are characters I like, many of them have good writing...and then they are reduced to props to make a player feel “Oh yeah! Such a chick magnet! They all want me! Women are simply a commodity by which I inflate my own sense of self-worth since having multiple of them attracted to me and betrayed by me makes me feel as if this is a positive development and not a negative one!”
And I do mean that seriously. Look at most content or statements around the Valentine’s Event. They frame it positively. The ‘harem’ ending, Joker is such a ‘chick magnet’ and so ‘alpha’ etc. etc.
Terrible emotional betrayal? Deep seated trust issues? Sojiro treating his own daughter like garbage? Ignored because ‘Joker is a PLAYER! WOOO!” And this is overall seen as a positive development.
By now I’ve rambled on ridiculously long but if I must have a conclusion it is thus; Please give us a Female Protagonist who can date the other boys and stop selling this sexist approach where non-protagonist males and all females serve the same purpose; inflating the ego of the player character.
I like P5 a lot (Spoilers)
So I finished P5 and now that i’ve come out of playing it twice, both in separate languages, I have a lot of wild opinions to go about so here we go. It should go without seeing I’m gonna talk about the game freely, but here’s a warning in case.
I would have to say I like the story of the game a lot, but I’m accounting for the first, fourth, and everything after the fifth arc. Kamoshida is an incredibly strong antagonist who does a million things for setting up the game very well, Sae and Futaba are great ways of showing that Changes of Hearts can happen to people on their own so long as they’re willing to make the change, and Goro and Shido are great personal antagonists for the group and Joker respectively. I like the final storyline a lot too with Yaldabaoth, but it’s very cheesy social commentary in a lot of ways and Yaldy himself isn’t a compelling antagonist so much as the idea that the strict social order that controlled Japan so strongly gave birth to his existence. I’m a big fan of stories that have weird realms or things going on because of the desires of a person being so strong they manifest out of the blue due to human sin and it’s part of the reason why P3 and P4 disappoint me on that front, because they’re largely god plots with very little of that, while P5 is a god plot but it is a god plot created by humans and their sin. While Yaldy himself isn’t particularly impressive, the desire that the Citizens of Tokyo had towards not wanting any part of society to break even a little bit being so strong it creates a god to ensure that never comes about, is and it’s wonderful when Joker summons Satanael to blow his fucking brains out.
I am a big fan of things generally considered to be evil or negative are framed as heroic or things people use to grow. So I appreciate that Joker and Arsene while both very menacing and demonic looking are the heroes of the story and his persona. Arsene especially has such an amazing design that I love looking at him and honestly want to get some sort of figure of him if one gets made. Joker is a fantastic way to make a quiet protagonist that also has a lot of character to him. Between his own backstory, the grudge with Shido, Goro being his foil, and his generally menacing demeanor combined with very theatric and over the top motions he makes, he has a ton of personality in him. The game in general does, but I was not expecting to love the Protagonist more than most of the main cast. His ultimate persona being Satanael is also fucking cool, because not only is the entire moment just an amazing thing and the scope of the whole fight is absolutely beautiful, but Satanael in gnosticism is the dude who is supposed to keep Yaldabaoth in check. So it’s awesome they played to the Trickster theme, the “Blacks are whites” mentality P5 has towards the protagonists, and the lore of the mythological figures themselves. It’s such a cool moment and the music that plays during the summoning is a great arrangement on the boss them that played prior. I can talk forever about Joker and his persona, but I need to talk about other stuff.
The main cast is great. I love Ryuji, he’s easily the best bro character of the games excepting maybe Eikichi. You get to see him grow from a bitter teenager with a huge chip on his shoulder, to a young man with a strong sense of self respect and justice. He gets into silly situations and can be stupid, but he’s a genuinely cool dude and I love him. Ann’s alright and she enhances Ryuji a bit too since they’re both old friends, but they can mess around with one another and it feels organic. I don’t think highly of her tbh, but she’s alright for the most part. Makoto is awesome, being Joker’s contemporary in the group. She’s smart, she has a good head on her shoulders, she kicks ass, and has an amazing outfit. It’s really cool that when they thought of a girl they would try to push as the romantic interest for Joker they made her as much of a character in the group as him. Yusuke’s hilarious, but also is one of the more emotional parts of the team. His interactions with Futaba are great and shows how his weird perspective connects with others. Futaba herself is a ton of fun with her goofy ass personality and smart ass comments. Haru I don’t care for much, but she’s got cool animations so I warmed up a bit to her over time.
The antagonists are all kind of a mixed bag, but the great ones are great. I won’t talk about Yaldy because I already mentioned his deal before. Kamoshida’s an immaculate piece of shit. I cannot tell you how happy I am that he is never once hidden in that aspect. If they had tried to hide his shitty attitude when adults or whatever were around it would cheapen the whole thing, but nope he’s just as shitty to you regardless of whose presence he’s in. It helps that he has such a connection to the school that he effects literally everyone there even the people who don’t associate with him. The underlying character depth also of him being a gold medalist who probably got fucked up by the societal and personal pressure of having to keep being the best giving him a warped perspective on others owing him for this is also great. He’s just got a ton of fucking great things about himself and a super easily punchable face.
For Goro and Shido, they’re both great. Goro is a fantastic foil to Joker, also being a user of the Wild Card and a pawn of Shido’s due to wanting to be recognized by his dad. His being sent from home to home as an unwanted child has fucked him up so much he desires to see the destruction of the same society that allowed this to happen. At the same time though Goro only has two Persona, Loki and Robin Hood. The underlying implication of course being Goro has only ever had himself and never actually made connections with others so he has two Persona compared to Joker’s several. Shido on the other hand is a good antagonist for how militant he is and how business like he is when handling others. He doesn’t actually recognize the people he steps over in his path to success. He barely recognizes Goro looking like his mother and doesn’t even know Joker is the same child he got locked off into Shibuya. It shows his megalomania off very well that he ultimately created his own enemy and him killing literally everyone tying back to him characterizes perfectly how militant and cold he truly is.
As for the rest of them. Sae is a good antagonist for her purposes, but she’s not as strong as the other three. Madarame has moments where they characterize him later, but them insisting on his murdering of Yusuke’s mom and his moustache twirling villainy combined with that makes him a very confusing and lame character. Kaneshiro has a minute of characterization, but is a fucking joke villain. Okumura is boring and has a nice moment of depth with the space station kit, but unfortunately he’s being a nothing character every other minute in the worst storyline of the game so rip.
The music in the game is really fantastic. Beneath the Mask and Rivers in the Desert are hands down two of the best tracks in Shoji Meguro’s history of music. Blooming Villain is my favorite non-final boss track in Persona. Layer Cake is CATCHY AS FUCK. Price and When My Mother Was Around are amazing dungeon tracks with Whims of Fate being even better than those two. There’s a lot of other great tracks as well, but I cannot list every single one.
The gameplay mechanics overall improved for the better in a lot of ways and Confidants are really cool too. I do have to say though some of the non-party member ones fall into a really lame pattern of “Character is griefed by other outside character in some way, go to mementos and get rid of them.” But the storylines more than often make up for them. Hifumi, Munehisa, Sadayo, and Toranosuke are some of the more memorable ones.
If I have complaints though it’s that Mementos is fucking lame. Some of the dungeons are really boring or have lame gimmicks or are LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNG (Kaneshiro and Okumura’s palaces most notably). The story feels like it’s going nowhere for a while. Bosses are boring for the most part with really lame ass mid battle gimmicks, the Sphinx is an absolutely garbage boss fight too. The best bosses are probably Shido and Shadow Okumura, the former because of it not being a lame gimmick driven fight and the latter because you can find fun ways to negate entire legions of the robots. Shadow Madarame and Kamoshida are okay too, but they’re not remarkable or particularly interesting either. The designs on a lot of them are pretty lame too. Also Morgana needs to shut the fuck up about telling me to go to sleep. I love the little bastard, but jesus christ.
But yeah, those are my thoughts on P5. It’s a really cool game that I love a lot that honestly has a decent number of faults, but I don’t care about them which is surprising because I haven’t felt that strongly about a game since like... Metal Gear Rising. Not that those two have a lot of crossover sans the incredibly buff final boss politician with lyrical music in the back.
