The shooting of the new ‘Doctor Who’ spin-off has reportedly begun, most likely in the United Kingdom, the principal location of the series. Denise Welch, who is known for playing Natalie Barnes/Horrocks in ‘Coronation Street’ and Steph Haydock in ‘Waterloo Road,’ was spotted filming the series recently. The production of the original series’ fourteenth season recently wrapped and the fifteenth season’s shooting is slated to begin in December in Cardiff.

The spin-off series revolves around the UNIT, a military organization operating under the United Nations to investigate and combat paranormal and extraterrestrial threats to Earth. UNIT has featured significantly in the original series for the past 50 years. The spin-off will follow UNIT leader Kate Stewart. Jemma Redgrave appears as Stewart in around ten episodes of the original series. Redgrave will be appearing in the series after portraying Stewart in the ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas special later this year, starring alongside the new Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa (‘Sex Education’).

The new spin-off will be a part of an expanded “Whoniverse,” which was born after Disney+ struck a significant international distribution deal with BBC. ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner and executive producer Russell T. Davies revealed that the show is only one of the several spin-offs that will form the “Whoniverse.” “[…] it was time for the next stage for Doctor Who. I thought the streaming platforms are ready, the spin-offs are ready; I always believed in spin-offs,” Davies told British GQ about expanding the ‘Doctor Who’ universe with new shows set in the same.

Redgrave is best known for playing Evie Wilcox in ‘Howards End,’ alongside Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson, Lady DeCourcy in Kate Beckinsale and Chloë Sevigny-starrer ‘Love & Friendship,’ MI6 Agent Emily Tuthill in ‘The Grid,’ Rebecca Edmonds in Craig Ferguson’s ‘I’ll Be There,’ etc. Her recent credits include DI Jill Raymond in ‘Silent Witness,’ Amelia Gurney-Clifford/Davenport in ‘Grantchester,’ Bernie Wolfe in ‘Holby City,’ etc.

Welch’s recent credits, on the other hand, includes Angela in ‘Dead Canny,’ Trish Minniver in ‘Hollyoaks,’ Doll Belvedere in ‘Dun Breedin’,’ Linda Bradshaw/Pam McGrath in ‘Holby City,’ etc. BBC has not announced other cast members of the spin-off series yet, which can be expected in the upcoming months.

Along with BBC Studios, Sony-backed Bad Wolf, the production company behind ‘His Dark Materials,’ ‘A Discovery of Witches,’ and ‘Industry,’ is expected to be involved in the production of the series. Bad Wolf has been co-producing ‘Doctor Wolf’ since the fourteenth season of the show.

Mother's Lullaby

Campus was alive with action, it was Thanksgiving weekend and many of Calina Romanoff’s classmates were rushing about, trying to get home for the holiday. Calina was not as joyous as her classmates, for there was no large gathering of friends and family waiting for her back home; all that awaited her was her small American pit bull terrier Alek. It felt like it had been years since her adoptive mother’s death, but in reality, it had only been a few months since the funeral. Calina smiled weakly as her closest friend Amelia gushed over her family’s plans for the holiday weekend. Calina did care for Amelia, but the holiday felt like it had lost its meaning in the last few months as her academic workload increased and her brain came to terms with the loss she’d experienced.

“What about you Calli,” Amelia asked qualitatively, breaking Calina out of her trance.

“Probably just sit at home with Alek and eat Chinese” She shrugged, collected her books, and moved towards the library doors. Amelia quickly followed her.

“Aww, come on…Momma said you and Alek are welcome to join us for dinner” Amelia whined as the pair proceeded to their apartment, Amelia having a few hours’ worth of packing awaiting her. Calina shook her head, declining once again the invitation Mrs Davenport has continentally extended over the last few weeks. Opening the front door, little Alek was excitably waiting for them, tail wagging across the floor.

Two days later, Amelia sorrowfully waved goodbye to both Alek and Calina before driving off into the sunset. Left alone in her apartment, Calina suddenly felt like the apartment had gotten bigger without Amelia’s loud personality filling the space. Collapsing onto their plush couch – something that both girls had spent hours searching for – Calina let out a huff. With no classes or her bubbly friends to distract her from her thoughts, the emotions and reality of the last year came crashing into her like a tidal wave of expectation. Alek jumped up on to the couch and snuggled into his owner’s side, trying to offer some form of comfort. While little Alek brought Calina a great deal of unconditional love, his presence now came with a twinge of sadness. The puppy had been a gift from her adoptive mother, Natasha Romanoff a few months before her disappearance and death. Before her death, Natasha had looked after the puppy while Calina attended classes and the trio would go on long walks, enjoying the nature reserve that surrounded the Avengers complex, when Calina was on break. Pulling Alek into her lap, Calina began rubbing the pups belly and indulging herself in the blissful joy that Alek expressed form the attention.

“How about we go visit your Babushka (Grandmother)…Hmm” Calina suggested lifting her little puppy onto her chest and already planning the road trip to Natasha’s grave in Hamilton.

Soon Calina found herself driving towards her mother’s grave with little Alek fast asleep on the passenger seat of her 1980 baby blue Jeep. The Ohio countryside flashed around her as the city became farmland and after 3 hours of driving and two pit stops – one for lunch and one for a potty break – the jeep rolled to a stop.

“We’re here Alek” Calina announced waking the pup from his long nap.

The stone that marked Natasha’s final resting place was simple. Below her name, etched into the stone the words ‘Beloved mother, sister and friend’. A ring of flowers, unlit candles and worn teddy bears encircled the stone and as Calina knelt down to add her own collection of flowers.

“я скучаю по тебе, мама” (I miss you mama), Calina whispered kissing the stone. While Calina wouldn’t claim to be fluent in Russian, but she could hold her own when it came to her mother.

“kto ty?” came a unfamiliar voice in Russian from behind Calina, Alek growled lightly at the stranger. Calina turned to face the voice and found herself face to face with a blonde-haired women dressed nicely in yellow plaid. While normally Calina would be highly defensive – like Natasha had taught her -, but today she felt too defeated to put up much defence. Oh how mother would be rolling in her grave if she could Calina now.

“Calina Romanoff, and you?”

Yelena Belova stared at the women before her with a hard scowl. The young women didn’t look like a widow. Calina looked down at the outfit she’d chosen for the road trip, she didn’t think it looked bad or that she looked evil. Her relaxed dark wash jeans had a little bit of dirt dusting her knees and flecks of paint stubbornly still clung to the fibres of her chocolate brown zip up sweater. But Calina knew that her mother never cared if her clothes were perfectly clean or not, she just cared that Calina was safe and at home.

Hypothetical titles for season sixteen of 88

The academy. Season premiere. Part one. Findlay’s out for Lucia’s blood when she finds out that Barnaby has been accepted into The Cabal Academy in California. First appearance of Winslow Fegley as Barnaby Sullivan and Walker Scobell as Jonah Sullivan.

Orientation. Season premiere. Part two. Sidney accompanies Barnaby to the Academy’s parent and child orientation weekend. With this episode Barnaby Sullivan is downgraded to a recurring role

Three branches. Birch’s team, ACS&Associates and Solaris’s squad band together when the precinct burns down overnight.

Empty nest syndrome. Jonah, feeling suffocated by a very clingy Findlay, sneaks away to Drummond’s apartment in Greenwich to get some time for himself.

Kicking her ass into gear. Drummond admits Findlay back into Melinda’s office to combat her empty nest syndrome. Guest starring Alfre Woodward as Dr Melinda Crenshaw.

Family law. With the precinct rebuilt. The team help Maybelle on a missing persons case involving her ex husband. Final appearance of Paul Rudd as Conrad Rhys. Guest starring Laverne Cox as Maybelle Archer an Liv Hewson as Conrad and Maybelle’s child Mattie Rhys

Mixed doubles. Drummond’s satyr instincts cause trouble when Odessa signs them up for a charity tennis tournament with Lysander and Tina.

Interstate PTA. Still trying to deal with her empty nest syndrome, Findlay makes the mistake of applying for the Cabal Academy’s Parent-Teacher Association. This leads into a crossover that continues into the Cabalibu episode Parents Weekend.

Au naturel. The team takes a case involving a ritualistic murder at a male oriented nudist colony located just outside Long Island Sound. Guest starring Henry Cavill as Christopher Laurent the centaur leader of the Laurie Colly.

The celestial funeral. The Christensen family gathers together to say a last goodbye and renewed hello to Adam and Eve. First full appearance of Matt Lanter and Adrienne Palicki as Adam and Eve Christensen.

Contrition. Findlay has to deal with a seemingly new and improved Eve begging her for forgiveness for the hurt she caused the Five Families

A steely grey Christmas. Midseason finale. Part one. Barnaby has decided to stay at the Academy for Christmas which, naturally, does not go over well with Findlay.

A steely grey Christmas. Midseason premiere. Part two. Odessa, Cain and Derek play a Christmas Carol on Findlay’s dreams to get her out of her holiday funk. Guest starring Lucas Till as Cain Christensen and Daniel Radcliffe as Derek Christensen.

To forgive, benign. Birch’s team works to reunite the werewolf cub with his pack before his pack finds them. This is a crossover episode continuing on from the Cabalibu episode To Were(wolf) Is Human

Running mate. Part one. President DuPont asks Findlay a favour that she feels morally required to turn down. Guest starring Amy Acker, Liz Hurley, Meryl Streep and Anna Sophia Robb as the DuPont family.

Presidents of politics past. Part two . As a compromise. Findlay holds a seance for the DuPont family to help the president decide wether she should run for reelection or not. Guest starring Melissa McCarthy and Kathryn Hahn as Amelia and Marguerite DuPont

The devil wears Manolo’s. Lucia takes over Jonah’s tutelage for the day while Andy is otherwise unavailable causing Findlay no end of stress.

Dry. A run of the mill investigation into a daylight axe murder becomes delicate when the suspect makes their escape through a mosque at the height of wedding season.

A little party never killed nobody. Arlene gets confronted by an old friend at her Fifth Avenue set birthday party. Guest starring Anna Kendrick as Sandra Kilmer

How the other half lives. Arlene tries to prove to Sandra that she hasn’t changed her principles. But it looks like Sandra has an ulterior motive for her visit

Tried, tested and true. Findlays professionalism is put at war with her fangirl inclinations when Emerson Davenport is held hostage along with a focus group. Guest starring Chris Pratt as Emerson Davenport.

My three dads. Odessa gets an welcome surprise when her extremely estranged biological father turns up at the Spratt house. Guest starring Stephen Amell as Matthias Wayne

Solo mission. Season finale. Part one. Drummond takes revenge on Myrna Bale when his biological grandparents are killed in an engineered car crash.

Unlikely allies. Season finale. Part two. Drummond gains some surprising help as his war against Bale reach’s its apex. Guest starring Adrienne Palicki as Eve Christensen. Final appearance of Kristen Chenoweth as Myrna Bale. With this episode Barnaby Sullivan is upgraded back to a series regular
