#and the audacity of you to put this in the nessian tag

Note
Ok ok hear me out! Nessian trapped in ikea. Maybe cassian gets lost and Nesta stays to try to find him.
I'm gonna answer this as my (late) submission for @nessianweek day 4, so I hope this entertained you as much as I was lol. Here's the IKEA map I was looking at for reference :p
Tumblr media
"No, no, no," Nesta muttered to herself as she carefully skirted around some of the smallest and brightest colored dining room sets she'd ever seen. "Where the fuck did he go?"
Cassian had convinced Nesta that spending the afternoon in Ikea would be the greatest experience of her life, that it would revolutionize the way she viewed furniture shopping, and the fucker had the audacity to disappear right under her nose. Her boyfriend had promised he'd be right back after doubling back for some bar stools he wanted to look, and she'd been wandering the store without him ever since.
That had been nearly half an hour ago, and the store had closed approximately five minutes prior.
If it were up to her, she'd never set foot in another Ikea as long as she lived. She didn't care what her boyfriend tried to bribe her with -- chocolate cake, special editions of her favorite books, or even those damn meatballs he was so obsessed with -- she was never coming back here. Ever.
Nesta had tried texting and calling Cassian repeatedly, but the service was spotty at best, and she had no idea whether anything she'd sent had gone through. Her messages had long since turned green and her phone calls failed to connect, so she was stuck wandering the halls of this cursed store trying to find him. She knew she should've stayed put in the bedroom section, but she'd started to get antsy when he hadn't returned within a few minutes.
The sheer amount of people walking around certainly didn't help manners, and Nesta had found herself swept into the children's section before somehow coming back to the beginning of the showroom. She'd never been so easily turned around before in her life, and for a woman with a normally above average sense of direction, it was incredibly disorienting.
Nesta ran a hand over her face as she hastily walked through the showroom, fully intending on taking the shortcut through the living room storage area so she could start fresh in the bedroom storage area she'd originally lost her boyfriend in. Maybe if she worked backwards, she'd be able to find him that much faster...
All those thoughts came to a screeching halt as she caught sight of a familiar broad back and loose curls pulled into a bun.
"Are you serious?" Nesta exclaimed once she was close enough.
Cassian whirled from where he was examining the option to custom-build living room cabinets, a sheepish smile spreading over his features once he saw the glare she was sending his way. "Sorry?"
"Do you know how long I've been walking through this infernal store looking for you?" she asked, forcing herself to take several deep breaths. Everything was fine. She had him in her sights again. Nothing had happened to him. "The store is closed, for fuck's sake."
"I'm sorry," he repeated. He moved away from the cabinets and placed his hands on her shoulders, his warmth quickly seeping in through the thin jacket she had on. "I didn't mean to freak you out, sweetheart. I just -- these cabinets are so cool."
"I'm not freaked out," she lied through her teeth. He just gave her a knowing look before sliding his arms around her and pulling her into a hug, settling his head on top of hers with a happy little sigh. "I'm not."
"I know you hate these kinds of places, and all the people, and I'm sorry for leaving you behind to go stare at some stupid cabinets," he told her.
"They're not stupid if you like them," she mumbled into his chest. The steady beat of his heart was reassuring against her ears, and she wrapped her arms around him as she nestled against his chest. "Take a picture of the tag so we can look them up when we get home."
Cassian readjusted how their bodies fit together so he could cup her face and lean down for a kiss. "Yes, ma'am."
They stayed like that for another few minutes until someone awkwardly cleared their throat from behind them. Nesta spun in Cassian's arms to reveal a hassled-looking Ikea employee standing before her, the yellow shirt clashing horribly with his red hair.
"Uh, sorry to interrupt your... moment," he said, barely hiding his irritation. "But the store closed twenty minutes ago. I'll direct you to the nearest exit."
Nesta had never known shame like being escorted out of an Ikea by an employee who wanted to be there even less than she did, but she and Cassian somehow managed to make it out of the store unscathed.
"We are never coming back to this stupid store," Nesta hissed the second they were alone.
Cassian hung his head in defeat. "We're never coming back to this stupid store."

Fighting Fire with Froyo
Tumblr media
oh my goodness hello friends plz dont roast my title bc @verryberriess already has LOL it is ✨quirky✨ anyways the first fic back is always rough to write and i got tired of editing so without further ado ...
Nesta pried the uniform hat off her head and wiped the dripping sweat from her brow. By the cauldron, it was burning up today. It amazed her that the frozen yogurt wasn’t melting right out of the machines. That probably wasn’t even possible, but the heat was making her delirious. Of course on the hottest day of the year something was wrong with the AC. She added calling the maintenance guy to her 5-page long mental list of things to do after her shift today.
She truly did not have the time to be working on the service line today. The Archeron sister froyo shop had opened almost a year ago and already she was talking to people about expanding it to become a chain. That’s what she should be working on instead.
Nesta supposed she should be happy their little shop was so popular. The sisters had been so nervous when they were finally able to launch their yogurt shop after years of planning. It was a dream come true.
They named it Archeron Delights and it became one of the most popular dessert places in Velaris. Elain was the mastermind behind the frozen yogurt recipes. People came from all over the country to try their unique flavor combinations. Feyre was in charge of all the interior designing. She remodeled the entire space and made it look modern with colorful signs and trendy photo taking spots - a necessity for kids obsessed with instagram worthy pictures. Nesta was the official manager which meant she dealt with finances, hiring the team, making schedules, and other administrative duties.
To be honest, Nesta never really worked at the counter, but Morrigan their newest hire, and Feyre’s best friend was sick with the flu. Definitely not a good idea to put her near customers. To make matters worse, the shop had been extremely busy today so she didn’t have time to take any breaks. Unlike her sisters, Nesta was already not the cheeriest service worker. It’s why she worked in the back in her quiet, private office.
At least she could distract herself by filling out their monthly budget summary while waiting. However, her calculations were soon interrupted by the cheerful bell dinging, meaning the shop door was being opened. Damn another customer.
Nesta began quickly finishing up the section she was on, “Hi I’ll be with you in one -”
“You need to get out of here,” the customer interrupted.
Nesta’s smile dropped so fast. Who did this man think he was?
“No, you need to get out,” she snapped back without looking up from her papers. If he was gonna speak to her like that she was gonna take her sweet time.
“Excuse me I -”
This time Nesta interrupted. “This is my shop and I say you need to leave.”
“Ma’am if you would let me explain -”
“Stop calling me ma'am, you have no right -” This time it was Nesta who trailed off.
She finally looked up to see a man equipped fully in firefighter gear staring right at her. Shit. She just yelled at a fireman. To make matters worse he was handsome. Extremely handsome.
“There’s a small fire in another location 2 units from yours. We’re containing it, but you still need to evacuate,” the man explained.
Nesta was still gaping. It seemed she was unable to form words. How was this man so attractive? He was wearing full protective fire gear and wasn’t even breaking a sweat and here she was, literally dripping.
To be quite honest she couldn’t tell if she was sweating because of the heat or the fireman’s burning gaze.
“Ma’am can you hear me? Ma’am? Oh for goodness sake.”
Before Nesta knew it she was being lifted off her feet. Literally.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” she exclaimed in surprise.
“Ah so you can still talk.”
“Put me down you oaf.”
“Oaf?” he raised a brow, “That’s a real nice way to thank the person saving your ass.”
“I’m serious,” she said crossing her arms angrily.
“Let’s get to safety first.”
Nesta gave the man a withering glare, but he continued to carry her bridal style to a tent where it seemed other shop owners were gathering.
“Oh my goodness Nesta are you hurt?” Aelin asked as they approached.
Aelin owned a dress boutique in the same plaza and they often grabbed lunch together. She was Nesta’s best friend.
“No I am being harassed,” she deadpanned.
“She means saved,” the firefighter corrected as he finally set her down.
“Woah he’s hot,” Aelin whispered in her ear.
“Shut up or I’m telling Rowan.”
“Just an observation” Aelin laughed.
The man gave them a polite smile before heading back towards the rest of the firemen.
Nesta stopped him before he got too far. “I want to talk to your boss,” she said sternly.
“You mean the captain?” he asked.
“Yes.” Obviously.
“Why do you need the captain ma'am?”
“Stop with the ma’am, I’m serious.”
“Ok fine. What’s your name?”
Nesta stayed silent.
“Ok then, sweetheart. Why do you need the captain?”
Nesta growled at his stupidity. “I am not your sweetheart and I am reporting you for inappropriate behavior.”
Something like amusement crossed his face, but it quickly vanished, “I see. I’ll be right back then.”
For someone about to lose his job he did not seem the least bit frightened.
***
It was only a few minutes before the man returned. He was still wearing his fire pants or whatever they were called, but the protective jacket was gone. Now he wore a tight shirt that read Velaris Fire Dept. It framed his muscles a little too perfectly for her taste. How was this man real?
“The captain is busy at the moment but I will take your complaint and hand it to him myself,” he said, pulling out a pen and paper.
“How do I know you’re not going to rip it up as soon as I leave?”
“You can watch me hand it to him once we have this mess sorted out,” he assured her.
“Fine.”
“First I will need your name.”
“Nesta Archeron” she grit out.
“Nesta. I like how that sounds.”
She rolled her eyes. This man was absolutely insufferable.
“Ok, now your phone number.”
“Why do you need my phone number?”
“So the captain can contact you about this issue, of course.”
She grabbed the paper from his massive hands and scribbled her number down quickly.
“Ok and what are you complaining about?” he asked, clearly amused.
She rolled her eyes, “You already know what I’m complaining about.”
“Well, I need to write it down word for word,” he said, laughing softly.
His laughter was the last straw. “You know what this is ridiculous I’m going to find the captain myself,” she said, stomping off.
“That’s gonna be hard to do sweetheart,” he called after her.
“Oh yea, why?” she yelled back over her shoulder.
“Because I am the captain.”
That stopped Nesta dead in her tracks. She turned slowly to see the big oaf smiling.
“Cassian Nazari, Captain of Station 17,” he said, extending his hand.
“Are you playing a game or something?” she scowled, slapping his hand away.
“No,” he chuckled softly, “Just doing my job.”
“By pretending to not be the captain and stealing my information?”
He smiled again and half of her wanted to slap him, but the other half was tempted to kiss him. What was wrong with her?
“I take complaints seriously. So seriously, that I would like to hear all about your complaint over dinner.”
“This is not funny,” she said crossing her arms over her chest.
“Don’t tell me you’re not interested. You took one look at me and were absolutely speechless. I literally had to carry you out before you burned to death.”
“The fire was contained, evacuating was a formality you brute.”
“If you say so,” he said sarcasm lacing every word. “I’ll pick you up from your shop at 6.”
Nesta’s jaw dropped, the audacity of this man was astounding. She paused before answering, debating her options. She figured she could either continue pretending to hate him or just give in. Gods above, was she actually considering this?
“Say yes you idiot” Aelin whispered.
Nesta flinched in surprise. Where the hell did she even come from?
“Are you kidding I’m not going anywhere in this.” Nesta argued, gesturing to her work apron and leggings.
“I think it looks great,” Cassian said with a wink.
“Me too,” Aelin added.
Nesta gave Aelin a deadly look before saying, “Let’s meet at the Sidra at 7. That way I have time to change.”
Cassian only looked surprised at her suggestion for a second before agreeing, “Ok, I’ll see you there.”
He waved before heading back to the rest of his crew and Nesta against her better judgement waved back.
“Nesta Archeron, are you smiling?” Aelin teased as soon as Cassian was out of ear shot.
“Shut up. I am absolutely not,” she said, quickly bringing her face back to neutral.
And then it hit her...
She was going to dinner with Cassian - a fire captain she just met. What the hell was she thinking?

Cauldron Bound
Chapter Fourteen: Battlefields Unknown
Chapter Thirteen/Chapter Fifteen
Master List
Nesta fell asleep with the syphon like diamonds encircling her wrist and around her finger. These last nights in the Illyrian Steeps she had found sleep to be a dreamless rest but tonight. Tonight, she found herself on battlefields. Ones she recognized and some she did not. In one moment, she was above Cassian. “I regret nothing in my life but this.” The next she was destruction, death, a champion staring down the betrayers, deserters and yet her eyes would fall upon him. In each moment she watched the commander fall. In each battle she screamed as the vision shattered. “I regret nothing in my life but this, that we did not have more time.” More time, more time. Drowning in the cauldron she had wanted more time to fulfill a death wish, to give her sister back the human life she had, the one they had so desperately clung to with pointed ears, but what would she do with more time? More time in Valrias where when she closed her eyes or had but a moment to herself she could feel the water in her lungs threaten to drown her. “I will find you in the next life.” His body fell hitting the ground, shaking the earth, over and over again. She screamed again and again. Nesta did not need the second sight of her sister to know death was near. She could taste it like a bitter wine on her tongue. They had this one life. This one time together. Death was coming, and it had the commander in its’ sights.
“Nes” Cassian’s voice came from her doorway. Panic filled her senses blinding all reason. He ran to her and she reached for him in the darkness. They held each other for a moment panicked breaths coming quickly as the room came into focus. “I’m here” he said his words an exhale as he stroked her hair. “You’re okay. You’re okay.”
Nesta was sobbing into his chest. All the wounds that healed over with ugly scars were bleeding in the moonlight. She steeled her reserve as she lifted her head to meet his. “You will die Cassian. You will not walk away from this.”
Nesta saw confusion in his features as he his hand paused in the tangles of her hair. “I know that every time I walk onto a battle field Nesta.” There was no emotion in his words as he clung to her. Only a solemn resolve in each word.
“Then don’t. Go. Walk away from this fight.” She said her tear stained face illuminated in the dim moonlight that crept into the room through the half-shuttered window.
“I can’t” he said his forehead against hers as he breathed her in. He had been taking in every moment with her as if he knew. As if he had always known that this was his final battle. It enraged her. Nesta wanted to scream, to shout. These people had turned their back on him and yet he would lay down his life for them. Would sacrifice anything. She thought she understood that. She thought that she would too. The words she said to him days ago echoed in her ears. “Do not bet anything Cassian that you are not willing to lose.” She had said that to him and yet she knew now what she was not willing to wager.
Their eyes met as the thing between them begged for them to be closer. Closer than in each other’s arms. Closer than her restraint would allow. It had pulled them together and yet she turned away fearing it would snap in her hands.
“I can’t” she began shaking her head as his hands gripped her face holding it closely to his own. Their foreheads touching as his hand slid down her cheek.
Cassian had wanted her to heal. To find a sense of what he had. A family, a sense of belonging. Something she wasn’t able to find in Velaris. He had wanted her to find that with or without him among those people who tasted the sky song he had heard in her heart the day he met her. Now he would ask her to run from that. “Nes, I can’t leave, but it isn’t too late for you.”
“No” she said suddenly. “I can’t. I couldn’t leave Emerie and Emalia and the females I have trained with.” I couldn’t leave you she whispered into her mind.
Together he whispered back.
Together she agreed into that silent space. The one they so seldom spoke into. The one that held all the things they had left unsaid. All that they could not say.
They sat like that for a few moments tangled in each other. Nesta laid down as Cassian made to leave. “Stay” she said quietly as his arms wrapped around her.
“How long do we have?”
“A few days, a week or two at best.”
Cassian was silent as Nesta turned her body to face him. “What are you thinking?” She asked her eyes assessing him in a way that echoed a commander’s gaze.
“What my last meal should be. If the caldron has any love for me it won’t be anything Rhys cooks.”
Nesta glared at him as he chuckled softly. She could feel his breathy laugh against her face.
“It’s an important thought.” He said as Nesta’s glare deepened into a scowl.
She was silent for a moment before responding. “What would it be?”
Cassian resisted the urge to raise an eyebrow as she had indulged his crassness with her question He contemplated for a moment before responding. Cassian’s features softened as if he were living a memory. “There was this stew Rhy’s mother used to make when it was particularly miserable in camp. The kind of miserable that makes you want curl up in a bed and sleep for a week. No matter how bad it got she would make that stew and we would sit around that half broken table and just be together. All of us.”
“What was it like then?” Nesta asked. She thought of Emerie’s wings and wondered if she could have fought beside them then.
Cassian was silent for a while. If Nesta hadn’t been looking into his eyes she would have thought he had fallen asleep.
“It was…Things were difficult. Especially for Rhys, Az and I. Illyrians don’t like half-breeds and bastards. Cockiness isn’t a part of their nature so as you can imagine what they felt for me was deeper than hatred. When I was brought to this camp as a youngling I had to fight for everything. I slept in some crappy shelter that I put together myself. When Rhys found me and Az. Being so different, so hated, it made us a family.”
“You aren’t from here?”
“No” Cassian said he hadn’t realized his fingers were tracing the planes of Nesta’s face. He was amazed at how easy this could be when they weren’t at each other’s throats. This with her, it was nice, familiar, and yet new. “My mother was killed for having the audacity to give birth to a bastard. She was exiled. I don’t know where they buried her. If they buried her.”
“And yet you love them.” Nesta said the anguish and loneliness Cassian felt echoed in her own blood.
“I do.” He said a confession time felt meaningless in this space when they had so little. He felt a sudden pang to spill all he had to her here. Concern creased her face as he said, “I hate so much of what we are, and yet, I think of all we can be. Of future we could have. Of all that we could create if only…”
“It will happen.” Nesta said cutting his words short. A sureness in her voice that eased his old worry. “Illyrians like you, like Emerie, and Emelia. You will make it happen.”
Cassian smiled. A weak and broken smile. “They will, and you will, but my time is up.”
“I won’t let death take you.” Nesta said defiance in her voice. Her face that Cassian had marked as the death goddess making a vow. More than a queen it was the look she had given the king of Hybern when he had known it would be her who took his head.
Still Cassian snorted. The sound was not from disbelief but rather at the absurdity that she found to sacrifice herself for him. At the fact that she could, that this beautiful wonderful creature before him, could stop death if she willed it and that she would use that power for him. If only she knew how much of him did not deserve her loyalty. Her irreverence.  “If anyone else said that I wouldn’t believe them. Not even Rhys, but you Nes. There is something about you.”
And there is something about you. She responded. Another thought that could not be said aloud least it break the moment. Least they be at each other’s throats again. Least they believe that this whole time they had been falling in love. Shortcomings, fears, and all that they had seen in each other and had not turned away. Had not sent the other away into the mountains. They were falling in love and it wasn’t something they wanted to break as so much had around them.
They were silent as the crickets chirped outside. Silent as they counted the moments they had left. If a moment could be captured and kept forever Nesta thought this was one of them.
-----------------------------------------------------
So this is going to end up being longer than I thought. The Nessian resolution was becoming very very long and so I’ve decided to split it up into chapters so I don’t have to rush anything and so we can have more Nessian.
Sorry for the very very late chapter I haven’t had time to sit down and write anything with midterms and my internship.
Thank you so much for reading and understanding. The next chapter is mostly written and should be updated on time.

PS I’m using my old tag list so just lmk if you want to be removed and also send requests my way, I need to be inspired! ;)
Tumblr media
Elain was late. She sighed as she entered the crowded grocery store. She promised Nesta she’d be on time, but it looked like that wasn’t going to happen. Nesta’s baby shower was today and Elain was baking the cupcakes. Unfortunately she just ran out of sprinkles and she was not about to bring her sister unsprinkled cupcakes on such a special day.
Elain heard her phone buzz and immediately knew Nesta was spam texting her.
“Elain where r u?”
“Hellooo?”
“R u on your way?!?!”
“I tracked you why r u at the grocery store?”
“I might give birth before you make it here”
Elain texted back her response as she speed walked to the baking section. She was so distracted she ran straight into something. Oh not something, someone.
“Oh my gosh I’m so sorry!” she exclaimed, dropping her phone. The stranger she ran into had dropped some of his groceries as well. She was rambling apologies as she frantically tried to pick up his things, until she froze.
“Elain? I - is that you?”
She hadn’t heard that voice since high school. It couldn’t be. But there she was staring at the same beat up sneakers he’d been wearing the last time she saw him.
Elain looked up slowly, trying to keep her voice from trembling, “Az?”
He gave her a sheepish grin as he offered a hand to help her up.
“Thanks.”
“Of course,” he smiled softly. “Are you ok?”
“Just embarrassed is all,” Elain chuckled. “I should pay more attention to where I’m going.”
Az grinned, “I could say the same for myself.”
She smiled as she started to turn away, “Well it was good seeing you again Az, but I really should be go-”
As she turned her hand brushed his and she felt him gently pull her back to face him.
“El - Elain,” he corrected. “I know you’re busy right now, but would you be willing to meet up at another time? We could get coffee at Peet’s like the old days?”
Elain stilled, taking a deep breath as she processed his words. She wanted to say yes. She wanted to hug him, kiss him, catch up with him, but she couldn’t. The last time she saw him her heart was shattered. Long distance had not been kind to them. She wanted to believe this was fate. That maybe they were meant to literally run into each other at this store, but she couldn’t handle another heart break. Elain had moved on.
“I’m sorry Az,” she said with a sad smile. “I just don’t think that would be good for either of us.”
Az just nodded. “I understand,” he said gently. “It was still good to see you Elain.”
She offered him one last smile as she waved and headed to the sprinkles.
Elain thought about him the entire drive to Nesta’s. No matter how hard she tried to keep him out of her head, she kept replaying their encounter. She couldn’t stop thinking about his stupid silky black hair that always looked perfect, even years later. His stupid contagious smile that made him look like a movie star. And his especially his stupid voice that brought her back to high school and made her heart melt. Maybe she had made a mistake. Maybe she should have agreed to coffee.
She sighed as she pulled into Nesta’s driveway. It didn’t even matter. What’s done is done. She reminded herself this was Nesta’s day and she would get Azriel out of her head.
“Wow look who finally decided to show!” Nesta chuckled as she threw her arms around Elain. Well, as much as she could manage with her belly.
Elain laughed as she returned the hug, “Sorry! I just had to get sprinkles for the cupcakes.”
Her laugh was cut short as she made eye contact with a familiar set of hazel eyes. Eyes she had seen not more than 20 minutes ago.
Nesta saw where Elain was looking and had the audacity to smirk. “Oh yes, that,” she whispered. “That is for you to deal with.” Nesta laughed softly as she waddled away leaving Elain gaping.
Azriel slowly made his way over, looking just as shocked. He put his hands up in defense, “for the record, I had no idea you would be here. Cassian invited me but I had no idea it was Nesta he was having a baby with. I can leave if - “
Elain cut him off as she pressed her lips to his gently. Az froze for a moment, but then returned the kiss softly.
“I would like to get coffee,” she said, against his lips.
He smiled before nodding and captured her lips once again.
Elain could hear people whispering but she didn’t care. She could no longer deny that fate brought Azriel back into her life. She was content in her bubble with Azriel. The rest of the world could wait.
AHH SORRY I KINDA RUSHED AT THE END!!! I hope you guys enjoyed anyways :)
