i would like to see if the loyalty would be the same if charles was the frequent p1 and your guy was the one struggling. the story is amazing in theory but as a charles fan it really sucks seeing people celebrating every p2 he gets because "they are on the podium together" like be fucking for real. you feel happy for charles terrible results because it feeds your agenda maybe stop calling yourself his fan? if you can't see charles as a driver and how terrible it all has been for him, and only care about him as an avatar for your ship you shouldn't even perceive him.

charles has said multiple times he doesn’t even consider anyone in the grid a FRIEND. besides pierre. he does not like max…😐 what about them screams chemistry… like genuinely i try so hard to like them together and i don’t see it (bc it’s not there)

i know this is about people shipping them and being weird abt their ships but there's like. a couple sides to this in my opinion. sorry, this might get a bit long.

so on one hand, from a pure fandom perspective, people can ship anything they want, regardless of chemistry and all that stuff. i don't have to like it and neither do you but they can. god knows there's several ships i can't stand or don't see any chemistry in, that are quite popular.

on the other, and im venturing into real life here a bit. i think a lot of it is about laundering mv's image.

the most common ships for f1 rpf on ao3, at the moment of my answering this ask, are m*xiel and l*stappen. and while there's at least some basis for the former, there's barely any for the latter. still, that's fine, bigger ships have been formed on less. but i do think a lot of it has to do with how dr and cl make mv look. dr made mv almost tolerable, which made him look better. cl as mv's partner would make him look better too. i think it comes from a similar place as all those people comparing mv to seb because that makes mv look better. i'll ignore the part where it's insulting to seb lol who's at the very least a good person.

or for all i know it could just be that people find rivalries hot lol who knows. but i wouldn't even consider them a rivalry sooo. there's that.

let's put it like this: nico and lewis were best friends growing up. they were closer than close - "everything bar lovers," to quote crofty. they once wanted each other to succeed just as much as they wanted themselves to. (if i'm remembering my lore correctly, nico's dad once bought an entire KARTING TEAM so they could both keep driving. like.) they once celebrated each other's wins like their own!! and then they became teammates and everything fell apart in spectacular fashion - but it fell apart BECAUSE they used to be so close. without that long history, i don't think it would have gotten nearly as intense and explosive between them.

max and charles, on the other hand... well. they had a squabble or two on track when they were karting, sure, but i'd compare that more to first-graders having a fight at lunch. they forget about it less than a week later. HONESTLY, i don't think either max or charles would ever have remembered the infamous "nothing just an inchident" thing if it hadn't become the meme it is today.

because here's the thing: max and charles were never friends. they were never CLOSE. they certainly never rooted for each other to succeed, and that meant there was nothing really to fall apart either. i don't imagine they had much of a relationship at all, both growing up and right now.

so yeah, they can never be brocedes. they can't even come close, because in order to fall apart that spectacularly, you first have to care about each other. you have to care about each other for years. and i don't think max and charles have EVER truly cared about each other.

i always think that lestappies like the IDEA of lestappen much more than the reality of it. or maybe they just like the idea of enemies to lovers so much that they're completely blind to the reality???

the reality that there's just... nothing really between max and charles, and their relationship is in all honesty the most bland coworker one ever. "the new brocedes?" please.

i have the exact same feelings about m*x and l*stappen! have to give credit where it’s due so l*stappen fics are some of the best f1 fics out there (i’m convinced this is why so many people like the ship) you’re right. fanon m*x has so much more emotional depth and human decency than the actual dude lmao

I don’t understand the obsession with Lestappen at ALL, they obviously respect each other because they’ve known each other since karting and seem to enjoy the rivalry, but it’s very clear that they’re not close in any way and honestly seem kind of awkward/uncomfortable whenever they interact (especially Charles tbh) I wouldn’t be surprised if things get heated again like when they were kids if we see another “inchident” this season and if the championship fight is close towards the end…

I'm with you in the shipping stuff. When you are a fan of someone there are certain things you don't tolerate and people need to understand that.

If I end up seeing people make everything in Seb or Lewis life about Alonso I would also be mad. The lap in Baku was insane stuff from Charles and I had to read people talking about MV. I'm not even a Charles fan but I agree with you.
