Play Time in an Antique New England Farmhouse

Off the living room, is this flexible area set up as a play-area, for the kids or the grown ups, it's a space defined by traces in the original floor and wainscoting, of an antique divider wall. This area is beautifully decorated by exposed posts that appear to have been standing strong since the 1700s. They look like they could stand for many many generations more! With natural light coming from the West, it's the perfect setting for a late afternoon game of chess or board-game, just before dinner in the next room through the french doors.

"May Milton" by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec is one of the historically featured works at "An Evening In Paris" on 12/27. This large, rare original lithograph in 5 colors was created by Lautrec in 1895, and only 100 impressions (plus 25 proofs) were created, published Edward Ancourt in Paris. Reference: Wittrock P17, Adr. 134 II. The piece measures 31x24" and the artist's monogrammed signature is on the lower left. While most original impressions have been lost or faded, this particular piece boasts fresh bold colors; especially the pink/reds (under dress/lips/fingernails) and yellows which have faded in other examples I've come across. A true museum-quality work of art, many impressions are in the collections of museums like MOMA (of which Chester Dale donated his May Milton to in 1963), the National Galleries of various countries, and others. Discussion: "Picasso much admired this poster and hung a copy in his own studio, which was the subject of his painting The Blue Room 1901. Lovers, May Milton and May Belfort, each commissioned Lautrec to make publicity posters and he designed them as pendants. The singularly untalented young English woman, May Milton, danced briefly on stage in Paris as part of a performing troupe and then in a solo act. Despite her short career in the limelight, she was to become the subject of several of Lautrec’s works, notably the painting Au Moulin Rouge 1892–95. Commissioned for her American tour, this remarkable poster of great simplicity and technical virtuosity ensured the performer would have lasting fame.The details of May Milton’s clothing are kept to a minimum and consist of understated sinuous lines without modelling, with the exposed wove paper acting as the color of her dress. Her tiny black-shod feet poke out from her swirling garment as she dances on the wooden boards of the stage."
