vegans who bring up animal exploitation in discussions of genocide are so ghoulish. the comparison is done often we criticize treatments of humans by pointing out we're treating them as "less than human", so, from an antispeciesist perspective, it's interesting to ask why it's fine to treat nonhuman animals with cruelty, then. the comparison ends here?
the reason why systematic animal exploitation happens is out of complacency, utility, & sometimes attachment to tradition. genocides don't happen because "that's what we've just always done", which is the reasoning at the heart of animal exploitation. we don't kill animals out of a specific desire for extermination, their exploitation doesn't involve pinpointed hatred (like. we specifically control animal populations to perpetuate the industries and we have very fond views of farm animals as a whole), while these are the reasons for genocide. not all killing is equivalent (or can be argued against in the same way) because not all killing happens for the same reasons.

human supremacy over "nature" is similarly as reactionary as other forms of bigotry are. thats why so much energy is used to depict abolitionists as irrational or extreme, or why supremacists rely on fallacies to justify their cruelty and enslavement.
that's why it's bewildering that some won't accept that there's parallels between other social justice movements and anti-speciesism. bigots are literally recycling similar versions of the same rhetoric but using animals in place of human targets instead, and with the same levels of vitriol too.
the belief that earth and its inhabitants are the possessions of humans is as silly as the idea that people belong to other people on its face. there's no basis of this supremacy outside of than the myth of human exceptionalism. manifest destiny type beat. ain't no material proof of this position at all, its entirely based on mythology and preexisting cultural biases and norms.
the radical position is often the unpopular one in a society that normalizes oppression. that is why vegans and antispeciesists aren't the majority. not that it is simply "inaccessible", but that civilization rewards inaction and complicity with the oppression of nonhumans and the earth itself. the various forms of exploitation caused by the hierarchy are all "normal". any threat to that perceived normalcy is hazardous, both to the individual's ego and the culture that produces them.
so many of the arguments against anti-speciesism hinge on culture and nature or what passes for "science", as if any of these things are apolitical or static. culture changes, and is neither inherently positive or negative. nature is not a rigid or permanent hierarchy -- it is complex, evolves, and is incoherent without being put into context. science is maybe the most inconsistent excuse out of them. there is no objective superior quality that humans have that science can offer a justification for.
the "food chain" is just a rhetorical construct, not a concrete fact. that humans are capable of exploiting animals is not proof of our supremacy. non-human predator mammals, insects, bacteria, fungus, cancer and parasites feast on humans all the time, and they don't need to farm us in order to do it! we wouldn't accept their ability to do so as proof of their superiority.
if we did, what would be the implications of doing so, especially in regard to humans exploiting other humans? the separation of humans from "nature" is what gave rise to civilization, and it was a violent process, one that took all of human history, and it has still failed tremendously. the project of civilization as a result has decimated entire cultures and peoples, and is currently creating an extinction-level threat that just may wipe out all sentient life on the planet.
just like other social conservatives and bigots, some will insist that this will sort itself out or that this is "just the way things are", ignoring that these attitudes have sources. our complicity in these systems are not inevitable. we can challenge our assumptions about the value of non-human life and make other decisions that are based on compassion and awareness, not allegiance to a mythology that places us on top of an arbitrarily constructed pyramid that will crush everything under its own weight, bringing the top down with it, eventually.
no empire is permanent, even the human one. our world will not allow it. cause and effect are not so easily dismissed. the ends and the means are inextricably linked. ecocide and speciesism have consequences, and we will reckon with them someday, and it will be sooner rather than later.

#endspeciesism #antispeciesist #govegan #veganism #empathy #animalrights https://www.instagram.com/p/COYA5hkpNqb/?igshid=14gz3pprq1pee

#Repost @cynical_coyote ・・・ “Stop judging people’s diet” Reducing the argument for animals rights to a “diet” choice is a tactic that seeks to belittle the real topic of human supremacy. We are discussing real lives who are being oppressed and bullied in slaughterhouses and other establishments designed to deny autonomy to seek profits. This is not a discussion on “what” you eat. It’s a discussion of WHO you harm. Choosing to voluntarily contribute to the turning of a fellow animal into a lifeless object is not a benign choice worthy of respect. It is an inherently violent choice that supports the unnecessary murder and subjection of a non human life. It is worth acknowledging that yes NOT EVERY HUMAN HAS THE SAME ACCESS to resources. But we can address that fact and work towards greater accessibility of plant based foods without belittling and denying the oppression that these animals are facing. If your activism and assessment of oppression choses to ignore the trillions of sentient lives subjugated every year under human hands then it’s not remotely complete. #consistentantioppression #leftistspeciesism #antispeciesist #animalliberation #leftist #anarchism #anticapitalist #veganart #art #painting #gouache #illustration https://www.instagram.com/p/B8POqtEJE7p/?igshid=1ubw5efgvyx9p

. #racism #antiracism #antifascism #antispeciesist
