Game of Despair (fic)
Chapter One: Despair Gamer
Summary: Surviving through her massive injuries following the ending of the Despair Arc, Chiaki Nanami has fallen after her fellow classmates have become Remnants of Despair. However, when altercations with a certain Servant brings up the chance to find a special person that she lost once again, Chiaki and the aforementioned problematic Servant have no choice but to traverse the apocalypse to bring Izuru Kamukura back to the light of Hope…maybe!
Rating: Mature (because duh)
Warnings: Gore, death, general manipulation and Remnants of Despair Shenanigans
A/N: Hey there. Originally this was a fan comic on tumblr that I did, but due to the scale of the project, I decided it would work better as a fic. The introduction to this fic is different from the fan comic just so I could keep things fresh to write. Please enjoy! You can also find this fic on AO3 if you prefer to read there. I’ll link later.
Games were supposed to be fun. Anyone could play them and they could be played together. It didn’t matter if it was a bad game or if the person you were playing with had any talent whatsoever. It wasn’t the point. The point was to get closer to another person.
At least, that was the philosophy Chiaki Nanami once went by. Games were something that made her happy, but another thing that chained her down at the same time. By being the Super High School Level Gamer, she was locked to her beloved talent and didn’t see any way to open herself to others. That was until she met Hajime Hinata and her teacher, Chisa Yukizome, had showed the strawberry-haired gamer that it was possible to form all the connections she wanted in her life through her talent. For the first time in her life, she had started to feel complete at Hope’s Peak Academy. She was the Class Representative of a band of Ultimate students who were anything but normal... but she loved them with all her heart.
Until the claws of Despair ripped everything away from her, that was. Chiaki Nanami was now a shell of her former self, but that was okay. With her mind filled with nothing but an urge to induce chaos, she couldn’t feel anything for the person she once was. If she couldn’t remember that person, what were they really worth?
The fiery skies poured overhead and mixed with the blackness of the night. There was no possible way to see the stars anymore at this point so deep into the end of the world. The only light that could be seen was from a small Nantendo game screen flickering. A girl with pink hair and discolored pink and red eyes leaned against some wreckage, watching as several people ran from demolished buildings and screamed in anguish for their loved ones. Children, women, and even grown men sobbed as a waterfall of bullets cascaded down on their bodies from above.
“You’re losing, you know?” The gamer sighed, twirling a small finger around some of her peach-tinted hair.
On her game screen, a hoard of bullets were raining down on a mass of zombies, massacring them on her side of the screen. The zombie side was fading pitifully fast, their organs squishing from the onslaught of shots.
Beside Chiaki, a man was trembling with the Nantendo in his hand. Sweat was pouring down the front of his head and his breathing was heavy. It looked as though the pale-faced man was going to pass out at any moment. His eyes were blood shot. He had been at this for hours, all to keep the game going and going and going... but it felt like one big, mad, never-ending spiral. He just wanted to drop the game, but all his hostages and prizes were dying all around him the moment he showed any weakness. A large black collar around his neck was tightening every time a point fell from his score. His throat was so constricted that his lips were starting to get purple.
Oh well, Chiaki thought. She was starting to get bored of this anyways. It was really sad though. For a few sweet moments, she had felt an exhilaration like no other. Her entire body had tensed, heat caking her cheeks. She wanted to drop the game and throw herself at the poor man beside her, to rub her curvaceous body against him until she got off on human contact alone when his score had gotten ahead. But alas, that sort of contact had started to wane on his score... and Chiaki’s interests.
“This is disappointing,” said Chiaki, obliterating the rest of the man’s score. Her side of the screen flashed WINNER in big bright red letters and the man beside her squealed in terror. He started convulsing and screaming, the air in his lungs dissipating fast until he seized over and fell over. His eyes bulged from his skull and his neck was bruised and purple until a satisfying crack sounded from his neck. Well... as satisfying as Chiaki could imagine it anyways.
Watching the man’s corpse go limp, she dropped her handheld game console beside him and simply fished another one from her black and white bear-shaped bag. She tapped the screen to life and began to jab at the buttons as though she wasn’t lying beside someone's corpse on top of a bunch of debris underneath a smoke-encrusted sky of darkness. But that was just the world.
Shrieks and screams of agony littered the sky, joining together to create a chaos-induced despair. It was probably the biggest death count Chiaki had earned so far. Her victim, to his credit, had lasted a total of thirteen hours before his score declined and Chiaki’s interest dropped. It was pleasurable until he waned. Now Chiaki was content to just let the cries in the night be silenced as the conclusion of their game (with real human casualties) and to just get up and leave. She did so, leaving her purple game console with the man’s corpse as memento and something of her personal signature. All the world would know where to find the person who could bring the greatest challenge of a killing game to them and that was what she wanted.
The gamer longed to find someone who could beat her and make her feel alive again. Or to feel anything at all. Even if Chiaki knew that she was nowhere close to feeling anything anymore. “My purpose... is Despair,” she uttered to no one in particular, merely touching her forehead as though to remind herself of that fact. It was foolish to stray, foolish to want or desire anything in such a world. Something like that almost seemed like a spec of Hope was left in her heart... which was impossible once the legendary Junko Enoshima snuffed it out.
Thanks to Junko, all the games in the world would not suffice to bring Chiaki Nanami back. One by one, she had been forced to watch her classmates fall into Despair, to watch them torture, massacre and rape others in Junko’s image. Chained to a wall, she watched for over a year as blood sprayed across a dingy massive screen that Junko had left her to view the carnage. She had been tormented and stuck in Hope’s Peak Academy until the last inch of Hope was executed from her body, until she finally wavered and gave into Despair. With the last specs of good will drained from her, the chains around her neck slipped off and she was allowed to walk free in this ruined world... where it felt entirely purposeless to live. But that was the point.
Everything was ruined. Her life was only good for making everyone else experience her own personal Despair. And Chiaki had set to it.
And as far as she was concerned, games were meant to be shared with everyone. Even the bad ones…
On the eastern side of a Towa city, a dingy and caved-in subway had been remodeled into a small chamber for the Despair Gamer. She always returned there to rest or to just recollect herself whenever she was bored or wanted to avoid the other Despairs. A bunch of pillows were tucked together for a makeshift gaming chair that she was slumped over, absorbed in one of her prized Nantendo titles.
Only the soft clinking of chains from behind roused her attention ever so slightly.
“Ah… that guy from before didn’t keep you occupied for long, did he?” Said a carefree voice behind Chiaki as she played. “For a moment, it looked like he was really doing it for you.”
Chiaki tilted her head, sinking back into her cushioned gaming chair. It wasn’t hard to figure out who the other presence in this fortress of death was, so she didn’t bother to look at him as he went to work on disposing of the body. What she didn’t notice however was that her Servant wasn’t empty-handed. He had entered the chamber with a large burlap sack… one that was squirming eerily.
Nagito Komaeda. To say he gave into Despair wasn’t quite so accurate. Hope would always win in the end… but it had to be challenged, cultivated… yes, becoming Despair was only meant to encourage Hope. And that was why he belonged to the other Remnants of Despair. He was theirs to use as they saw fit, but he just could not help returning to her again and again. Chiaki Nanami was like a serial killer by now… one complete with a soft, pudgy face and wide, innocent eyes. Utterly fascinating that one so lovely and gentle could rip apart so many people. Despair really had power over others… an alluring, undeniable, sick and twisted power… all Servant wanted to do was be there to witness Hope shatter the monster before him that Despair had created.
But until that happened… oh, how thoughts of Junko Enoshima made the heat swell through every inch of his body…
As if craving her attention, Servant spoke to her again. She could practically feel the grin etched on his face. “Have you gotten so used to the stench of death, Chiaki? You’re actually letting the corpses decompose around you now…” He nodded his head to rotting cadavers left at the back of the room. Perhaps Chiaki had forgotten they were there?
Chiaki’s lips twitched into a small frown, more so from being interrupted. Servant was a strange one. He had something familiar about him, like someone she should remember but it simply did not occur to her to try and do so. If he caused no reaction in her, then that was all there was to it whether she recalled him or not. The pale-haired boy seemed to follow her about like a puppy-dog, sometimes aiding her in procuring or disposing of victims whenever they met up. Chiaki had considered simply killing him, but something in her intuition told her that playing a Killing Game with the likes of him simply wasn’t a wise choice. And straight up slaughtering him was too kind, too merciful. How was she to invoke Despair in the name of Junko Enoshima if she simply hacked up his body?
And so, Chiaki found herself lifting her head at the jostling of chains behind her, watching the metal links swing side to side from around the Servant’s neck. He had a large grin painted on his face as he always did, taking a seat across from her in her little chair. “I guess the smell of death caught me off guard last time,” she mused thoughtfully to him, uncaring if he was really here for conversation or not. He did as he pleased and proved to be quite the clingy individual. But so long as he did the dirty work, Chiaki didn’t mind occasionally indulging him.
“It made me sick... but... now I don’t smell anything. I wonder if I’ve destroyed my sense of smell. Or my brain simply cares less and less each time...” Chiaki said with sigh, curling up in her chair and reaching for her games again. “Why did you come back?” It was really annoying when Chiaki was content to be left alone with her games for the rest of eternity. Alas victims were hard to come by in the apocalypse. Something about people wanting to salvage their lives. She couldn’t understand that. People were going to be slaughtered en masse either way, so shouldn’t they be trying to find the best way to have fun?
That was what Ultimate Despair Gamer was for. To teach others that life was just one big game and if they weren’t having fun, well... their lives didn’t amount to much, did they?
Servant tilted his head at her, his green eyes holding her emotionless gaze for a moment. “Oh, yes! I actually brought you another gift. I don’t want to be too optimistic, but…” He gestured to the struggling brown sack beside him. “I think this may really be the one. If he can’t satisfy you a little more than your usual prey, then I’ll take full responsibility…”
“Hm?” Chiaki stood up and slowly drifted over to the squirming sack that the Servant had left in the middle of the room. A gift? For her? A light blush crept onto her cheeks as she approached the bag and knelt down to pull it back. As soon as she saw the victim awaiting her, a jolt of electric joy shot through her. She gasped lightly and watched as the person’s light chestnut hair spiked up into her view. This was... No... why was the sight of the person’s hair inspiring such a range of emotions on her face? Her eyes lit up and a shudder ran through her body. She wanted to pull the captive close to her already.
Lightly, she pulled the gag from his lips and let him cough and sputter. He wanted to scramble away from the bizarre Gamer, but she quickly grabbed ahold of his shoulders and urged him closer to her. Her breasts rested against his front and she nuzzled him almost affectionately. Startled by the cute girl’s sudden comforting presence, the man didn’t want to feel at ease, especially with her twisted smile flashing down upon him. But at the same time... she seemed harmless. Perhaps a little deranged? But soft and pretty enough... He shakily steadied her against him, wondering if she was the prisoner of this strange, messed up death chamber just like he was. He barely took notice of the boy behind her with the manic grin and kept his eyes trained on her.
“Wh-Where am I...?” The chestnut-haired student asked her. At least, he appeared to be a student with his plain white uniform and dark trousers. A pair of glasses rested askew on his nose. “Are you a prisoner too?! Did that guy kidnap you?”
Chiaki couldn’t help but to tense at the guy’s caring voice, the way he put concern for her before anything else. Even himself. It felt so familiar and she was melting on the inside. Her face became more twisted, more heated and aroused. This was the one! He had to be the one! He was going to play with her until she could finally lie down and let the cold grip of death eclipse her. A final game where she could be happy, fulfilled, complete—
“What’s your name?” Chiaki asked him lightly, trying to hide the frantic blush on her cheeks. This was so embarrassing. Her heart was fluttering for him.
“Ahhh? Oh... Um, Yusuke?” The man responded, looking around. “Look, why don’t we try to find a way out of here before that guy shows up again? That mastermind!”
“Hm?” Chiaki crossed her legs. “Oh... him. He doesn’t matter. What matters is... well... do you like games, Yusuke?” Her soft voice almost held a low purr to it.
Suddenly, there was a sense of unease in the air. Yusuke blinked and pushed up his glasses. “Um...games?”
A small tear trickled over the pale, dead face of her latest victim. After hours and hours and hours of gaming, Yusuke had simply crumpled over. All throughout the week, he had kept Chiaki occupied. Even when he sobbed to her and begged her to let him go, Chiaki was completely enthralled with him. Not a single one of her victims had been so satisfying. He must have truly adored her to keep up such a unique concentration to whatever game she picked out for them to play. He cared for her... he must have loved her to play with her all this time. But then... it was as though his body simply gave out.
Now Yusuke’s corpse decorated the floor of her room, his body still warm from how hard it had worked to bring her even an ounce of joy. Chiaki lingered beside him, her face twisted with what could truly be called Despair. It wasn’t fair. He loved her. Why did he break under all the gaming? She could go forever...
Servant watched her from the corner of the chambers, a small sigh leaving his lips. Something about her actions had slightly disturbed him. For close to a week, he had watched Chiaki become truly elated. It was like she was a different person. And now the young man he had offered up to her was nothing more than a body getting colder by the moment. She drained every last agonizing bit of life from him. It was so thoughtless, so empty…
“I wonder why you don’t just let them rest…” He said, stepping forward as if to pull Chiaki away from the body. “Oh well. I’ll find you a new toy. That will satisfy you!” What hollow words. There was nothing out there that could satisfy the monster before him. That was probably the most horrifying thing about her… but it made him utterly enthralled with her.
“...It’s never going to be enough...” Chiaki said solemnly as she heard the rustling of chains clinking in the background. She knew Servant was behind her, waiting for the body to be disposed of, but Chiaki didn’t want to let it go.
“This was the... the best one... and he wasn’t even enough. Nowhere close... He was like a barrel of love... and I need an ocean... I...I...” She trembled, stifling a sob. Even as a Remnant of Despair, it wasn’t like she lacked feelings... even if they were only centered on herself and self-preservation.
She sighed a hollow bitter sigh and stood up, giving Yusuke’s body a savage kick with her boots. After watching the dirt from her shoes smear his cheek, she turned around and walked past Servant.
“The person you’re searching for… he doesn’t exist anymore…”
Chiaki suddenly clutched her chest tightly as though she were in pain. There was an unbearable pounding in her head. Make it stop… it had to stop… why couldn’t she ignore it?
“I’m not staying here. I’m... I’m going to leave. I want to find something else...something I lost.” The words left her lips before she even realized it. She could almost envision that person with the same chestnut hair and soft, sincere smile. But she didn’t remember his name... not a bit…
Just as she headed to the entrance of the chamber that Servant was leaning against, a foot suddenly kicked up to block her exit. She stepped back and looked at Servant, a frown working onto her gentle features.
“Ah… I thought we may hit this little snag,” Servant said, his smile fading slightly. “You’ve lost a lot of things. It won’t help you to search for all of them! More than likely, you’ll never find anything!” He put his hands together, pleading. “Let me find you another toy! The next one will satisfy you for sure.”
“What..? I…” Chiaki blinked and rubbed her eyes. Those words were making her feel just a tad woozy.
“There, there,” Servant cooed, entwining his arm with hers to lead her away from the door. “Won’t you stay here with me, Chiaki? Just for today… don’t look for what you can’t find. Just stay here today.” Forever. He intended to keep her as long as he could. Hope had to be protected.
And the person she wanted… that same person lit up his entire world as well. The thoughts of that person…
“Chiaki, just stay here… ah, I know,” said Servant behind her, wrapping his arms around her shoulders, “let’s play a game together. You and me. If you win—“
“Then I leave,” muttered Chiaki. Then she blinked again in realization.
The smell of this chamber was starting to get to her. Perhaps it was because the last toy truly was something she did like. She couldn’t stop playing with him until he broke. But Chiaki wasn’t looking at the remnants of her beloved toy anymore. Instead, she peered at the filthy walls and floors of her game chamber. Decayed bits of body parts were strewn about across the floor and the stench was starting to become invasive again.
How long had she been in these chambers? She couldn’t remember when she had first entered, only that soon after, the Servant had appeared. He would scavenge for food and toys for her, to keep her occupied and “satisfied” with any new playthings he happened to procure. Chiaki groaned, her head feeling a bit heavy. “Ungh...” She clutched her face, trying to ignore the stench of death wafting in the air. Something about the charming spell of this place was starting to wear off fast and she quite despised it.
Chiaki shook her head, trying to brush off the sickening realization that she just didn’t know how long she had been in a chamber like this, playing games with toy after toy after toy. How many had she killed? Well... they existed to please her, so it didn’t matter. But... when had she last stepped outside? When had she tried to leave? Every time she had risen from her chair to peer out into the world, the Servant would give her a friendly wave and insist that he would go out to bring her food or more toys. It was all just too irksome.
She turned back to Servant. “I want to leave.”
“Of course. If you’re ready, you’ll win,” said Servant cheerfully, waving his obscured hand. “But if I win… hmm… how about this? For every game you lose against me, I’ll alter your appearance just a little…”
“Alter my appearance…?”
Servant nodded, motioning for her to take a seat back in her Gamer chair.
“That’s right. For every game you fail,” he said, letting his voice trail off just a bit, “I’ll remodel you to look a bit more like Lady Junko Enoshima each time.”
“Of course, are you really sure you want to play?”

Ranking: Charging for A-tier
(This guide was a collaboration between @muffinrecord and @cactus-bun)!
So, you want to get into A-tier for a shot at those excellent new memoria, but you hate Ranked and don’t have the best characters in the game for it. What’s a player to do?
Simple: embrace the Chargius.
“Chargius??” you ask. “Wait, I can’t possibly give in to the dark side.”
Oh but you can, and you will.
Choosing your Chargius
For a Chargius strategy, you need a Charge gorilla. Here are your 5* options in the game:
Mitsune Miwa
Riko Chiaki
Tsukuyo Amane
Jun Kazari
Yachiyo Nanami (Tanabata ver.)
Meiyui Chun (not recommended since her damage output is low)
Ayame Mikuri
Momoko Togame
Sae Kirino
Miyuri Yukari
Akira Shinobu
Sakuya can work if you’re extremely hard pressed for options (this does not include Leila/Reira. Sorry!).
For the most basic version of this strategy, you only need one of these girls, preferably at two slots (or more). If you have to use a girl with one slot, make sure she has good damage potential at least.
If you have multiple charge gorillas and don’t know how to choose, chose the one who has the highest ATK potential. Note, however, that there is more than one way to execute this strategy, and some might find that two gorillas are better than one.
If the Chargius have avoided you, then try out Ayame. I was able to successfully use this strategy with her on my alt account. It took a lot of patience, but it works!
The Spirit Enhancement
Once you’ve chosen your loyal Chargius member, it’s time to beef them up.
You don’t need to fill out all of their SE, but anything that makes their Charge discs hit harder is a plus, and you’ll also want one of their Charge Combo Charge Count Up nodes.
Tumblr media
It should look like the above. Not all Charge gorillas give the same amount of Charge Combo+ so it might look different for each girl. You also want to get the girl’s SE Active, even if it’s useless.
One last, really really important thing to mention: the Ranking points bonus for charge combos starts at +5. You might be thinking, “hmmm. Okay, well, why does that matter? If you get all of your hits in, then you’ll hit +5 anyways.”
Well, if you kill the enemy too fast then you won’t actually get that +5-- this is especially possible on Ayame. If your Ayame is so incredibly buff that she actually kills the enemy on her first attack, even with her SE Charge Combo Count Up... she’ll get a charge bonus of +4. So basically no extra points! Get that Charge Bonus as a safety feature!
Going along that line, you get more points for every “5″ you gain in the charge combo bonus. For example, 10 will give you way more points than 9, and 15 would be waaaay better than 14. It’s still good to get as many points possible-- every little help counts-- but it’s something important to keep in mind, especially when we discuss possibly using two characters. You can check out the math here if you like. Something important to note is that a solo Chargius can’t go past 10, even for Tanabata Yachiyo with the highest +Charge Combo Count of 4. However, duo Chargius can pass it-- more on that towards the bottom.
The Memoria
Need help choosing memoria? Say no more! Here’s the no-nonsense FTP version:
Tumblr media
A Reasonable and Gentle Strategy: Attack Up [15%] & Charge Disc Damage Up [20%]
Tumblr media
My Beloved Partners in Crime: Anti-Evade [60%] & Damage Up [10%]
For Actives, use whatever gives you the most DEF stats (any from the Stat Stick tag on the Memoria Blog should work). Ideally you won’t be getting hit, but if you are, the extra defense should keep you safe.
If you don’t have the above, then some other good event reward options would be: Victory Pierces Through Time, Being Myself With Pride, Flowers Fallen Never to Return, A Usual Day of the Maidens, Mourn For I Know the Pain
If you have pretty good memoria options and don’t need to rely on event rewards, then you can experiment a little bit.
However, one thing to note is that there is a little nuance with these memoria-- you want to deal enough damage to kill the target, but you also want to at least try and get three hits off in a turn. Why is that?
Well, let’s show you the gameplay.
Murdering Rats
So, what does this super cool strategy look like? Behold!
youtube
You might notice a few things! For one, we’re using a 3-charge combo. We’re not spending the Charge bonus on an Accele or a Blast.
Here’s how you get a good score in Ranked: build a high charge combo in one turn.
Now, in this above video, the Tsukuyo killed the rat in two attacks, which isn’t ideal-- you want to get all three attacks off for a higher charge bonus. Now, as you can imagine, this will involve some effort because you want to make sure you deal enough damage to reliably kill your targets, but not so much that you kill them too quickly.
Another thing you might notice is that Tsukuyo uses her SE Active, even though it wouldn’t be helpful here. That’s because using Active abilities give you a higher score! So even if it’s useless, use that Active!
Now then... Who are we fighting?
Your Kill List
The perfect target is a Little Kyubey, aka the Rat. Why is this? Well, a number of reasons-- but the two most important reasons are:
The Rat doesn’t have a passive Spirit Enhancement node that gives it Evade. Evade is going to be a major pain in the ass, and it can cause your strategy to fail, especially if you don’t have some form of Anti-Evade.
The Rat will probably have a decent amount of HP and DEF, making it last longer in a fight= aka, meaning you have more an opportunity to get three charge disks in one attack!
However, other solo units can work. You’ll want to avoid teams that have more than one target though-- a pesky evade or a character who just takes more damage than you thought can mess you up and cause you to lose. You want guaranteed wins here!
Things to look out for with solo units:
Does this character have a chance to evade passively through their Spirit Enhancement? Characters like Homura, Ashley, and Yozuru can be tricky due to this. Additionally, all the passive evade memos available right now are two to three stars. Thanks to this, you can fight Rats with 70k+ bsts with the peace of mind that they won't evade. This will unfortunately change after this ranked.
How much Teampower does this character have? Higher teampower for a solo = more Defense and HP, meaning more opportunity to use three charge discs instead of two! Conversely, if your Attack is on the lower side, lower teampower might be a safer option!
Does this team have enough Teampower for me to fight them? If you see another player using Chargius strategies, make sure they have a high enough team power, particularly if you encounter a solo Ayame. Solo Ayame tends to give x1.15 instead of x1.2 thanks to her low stats. Make sure you aren’t fighting low power teams!
Is there anyway this enemy can make my Chargius deal less damage? If the solo target is a Nanaka and you’re using Ayame, be a little cautious-- especially if your Attack is pretty low.
Also, in general, avoid Ashley. She tends to be pretty beefy and it’s a nightmare if her Evade passive works. Additionally, if she somehow survives turn one, you’re going to be in some trouble: she deals a large amount of damage and has an Active she can use that allows her to Anti-Evade, meaning that you can’t rely on your own character’s Evade passive (if they have it).
When in doubt, the safest option is always The Rat. Note: I did see one tricksy individual use a passive Evade memoria on their Rat... But that’s rare.
How are you finding all of these Damn Rats????
The BP Pot change! As of last Ranking, you can now use BP Pots to cycle through your opponents! You might need to skip a LOT of teams, so ensure that you have an adequate amount of BP pots. I spent about 50ish last time cycling through, but it’s possible you’ll need to spend more, especially if you’re only targeting solo Kyubeys.
Do note that it’ll be harder to find good solo enemies the higher you rank up-- people will begin to take their battles more seriously, and solo Rats don’t make it into A-Rank. Additionally, it’s possible you might even come across other Chargius teams!
Now You’re Cooking With Charge: Two Girls Are Better Than One
You may have noticed that in the beginning, I said that you might choose two charge gorillas over one. Why is that?
Well, let’s bring up this link again and talk about Charge Combo Numbers. Using the bottom row as an example, you can see the multiplier increases by 0.01 from 5~9 charges, from 2.55 to 2.59, but suddenly jumps to 2.65 at 10.
Why are we bringing this up? Well, even if you use a Tanabata Yachiyo (who gives +4 for her charge combo count), you won’t be able to hit 10 on a solo Chargius. That’s where using two units comes in.
First off, this tactic requires you to have one of two characters:
Tanabata Yachiyo
Sae Kirino
This is because both of them have Charge Draw as a Spirit Enhancement Active. There’s no point in using two charge gorillas only to get AACCB for your disks-- you need that charge combo! So only folks with the above units can attempt this strategy.
For example, last Mirrors I used Tanabata Yachiyo and Tsukuyo together and it worked like a charm! However, also note that you’ll want both characters to have good memoria equipped plus their Spirit Enhancement filled out. Also, an additional difficulty is that you won’t have a Puella Combo when you use two characters, so your damage will be lower.
If you go this route, be sure to practice practice practice ahead of time in normal Mirrors! Always make sure you can win a fight-- if you can’t (let’s say your Tanabata Yachiyo or Sae only have one slot and don’t deal enough damage) then there is no shame in going back to using a solo Chargius.
In Conclusion
Good luck! The borders are always higher on the first day compared to the last, so don't worry if you're not in A immediately. As a closing thought, always prioritize winning a battle-- play around with your memoria and units to try and get as many charge combo points as possible, but always make sure you actually win the fight. You don’t want to shoot for three attacks, only to not kill the enemy at the end of them.

I was wondering if you could do the s/o with sleep paralysis with the sdr2 cast like the dr1 ask. If not, completely understandable!
Of course I can! I love all of this sleep paralysis topic, sorry for being so slow btw, I'm just bad at not procrastinating, can't help it! Anyways, hope you like it~

•None of his efforts really work but you know he is trying hard and that makes you feel so loved and happy
•Plus you know he understands you better than anyone else and you are very happy about it
Chiaki Nanami
•She doesn't really sleep
•She spends her whole night gaming
•And then kinda... sleeps in class
•So you two never really sleep together
•But you do stay in her house a lot of times
•And she watches you sleep while playing
•It's a great excuse to see your cute face sleeping
•So when you wake up from one of your paralysis she knows something is off
•And she asks you so you tell her about it
•And then she decides to try and notice when you are having one
•Afterall she doesn't sleep at all, she doesn't mind to look at you a little closer to wake you up
•And she realizes that your parpados move quite a lot while you are having a paralysis
•So she always wakes you up when she sees that
•And then cuddles with you until you fall asleep again
•Just to go back to her game after that
•And always keeping an eye of you
•An excuse to look at you even more while you sleep? She loves it!
Nagito Komaeda
•Oh, he has sleep paralysis too!
•And since he was very little
•He thinks it is like an omen or something
•Whenever he has one something good is about to happen
•And the worse it is the better it is the next thing
•You know because that's how luck works
•So you two have a lot of sleep paralysis
•And talk about them later
•Usually you just cuddle and talk about what you have seen until you fall asleep again
•And sometimes what you have seen is the same and it scares you so much
•Because that's too much to be a casuality
•And you can't help but to think that those spirits are actually real and not just a product of your subconscient
•"Don't worry, S/O, it is just my bad luck affecting us and making us see the same, It's statistically possible you just gotta have bad luck!"
•Well, if you think about it, he is right
•And who has worst luck than him? No one
• So you just hug him again and go back to sleep
Kazuichi Souda
•You were sleeping with him but it didn't stop you from those sleep paralysis
•You could see him next to you, using more than half of the bed
•But you couldn't move or call his name
•And then you started to see shadows and weird silhouettes get near you
•Nearer and nearer everytime
•Until one of them reached you and touched your face with his long nails
•And you woke up
•Screaming of course
•And then Souda is screaming too
•He was scared, very scared
•"What it is? What it is, S/O?!!"
•He is grabbing you, holding onto you trying to hide all of his fear
•You explain him then what happened
•”So... like a nightmare?"
•"It isn't exactly like a nightmare, because you are actually awake so you feel everything a  lot more realistic and you really feel like it's here" you try to explain him
•"B... but... are those shadows real?"
•No, Kazu, they aren't
•He chills out after that
•Poor boy was totally ready to move to another house or even another country if those shadows were real
•And now, knowing it isn't real he can focus on you
•He knows it has to be horrible, he usually wakes up crying after a nightmare so he can't even imagine how horrible it has to be
•So he cuddles with you and caresses you all night
•And also suggest to keep the lights turn on
•Just in case... it helps you, you know?
•Yeah, sure, you aren't afraid at all, Kazuichi
•But you actually thank him for that
•He suggested it for himself but having the lights turned on help you
•You have much less terrifying paralysis this way
•Everything that can attack you looks less bad on the light
•And having Kazu holding onto you also helps to reduce your paralysis
•So you two decide to always have the lights turned on
•Not that he mind it, he has tried to convince you about it before knowing about your paralysis already, he isn't a big fan of darkness
•Actually he is very scared of darkness and didn't know how to tell you
•So he is glad this helps the two of you!
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu
•You had never had a sleep paralysis sleeping with him
•And you screamed when you woke up
•Well, you were scared so you had reasons to scream
•But know he is angry
•Someone woke him up and that makes him very very angry
•And then he realizes it's you, screaming, who woke him up
•That makes him even more angry
•And also worried
• Who or what dred to scare his beloved S/O?
•"What happened?! Is someone here?! Someone hurted you?! Someone tried to kidnap you?!"
•Okay, he is a little paranoid
•But he is the leader of the biggest yakuza clan, he is used to big problems so he gets on the worse easily
•You explain him the real problem as fast as you can so he calms down as soon as possible
•And he is relaxed
•Well, he is worried about you and gets that it is a horrible thing
•But he thought something a lot worse had happened
•So he hugs you and tries to reassure you
•But the one that has really been reassured is actually him
•Now you do manage to fall asleep on his arms
•And he waits until your breath gets heavier to try to sleep too
•He didn't want to sleep while you were scared
•But you are sleeping now and he has to get as many hours of sleep as he can or tomorrow he will be even more irritable than usually
Peko Pekoyama
•Again, you scream when you wake up
•And when you open your eyes you see your girlfriend with a sword in her hands
•Wow, she's fast
•"There's.... there's nothing..."
•She and Fuyuhiko are just as paranoids
•You try to explain her that it was just a sleep paralysis, like a nightmare but much worse
•And she gets it
•She just has to hold you and calm you to sleep
•You know she isn't the best with words or love gestures
•But she tries to cheer you up
•And being honest, seeing her with that sword just as soon as you woke up made you feel very vey safe
Ibuki Mioda
•You wake up very very disturbed
•You had just seen a girl next to you, sitting on Ibuki's lap
•So you are quite... scared
•And Ibuki wakes up with you
•She doesn't have a heavy sleep so she wakes up easily just with you moving a little
•And you explain her what happens
•She tries to cheer you up singing
•And sing you to sleep too
•But her voice is worse than the nightmares
•Not tha she's a bad singer, she is amazing
•She just... isn't very... relaxing to say
•And you know that If she keeps singing the neighbour's will probably call the police
•Because she is really loud
•So you just ask her to tell you about her day until you fall sleep again
•And then she talks while atroming your head until you fall sleep
•And you two discover that that's the best way for you to avoid having sleep paralysis
•Falling sleep in her arms while you listen to her day is the best way to keep you relaxed
Mikan Tsumiki
•She knows there are hundreds of ways to stop sleep paralysis
•But with medical proofs? Not so many
•She's the ultimate nurse so she really knows how to help stop them
•Have enough sleep, regular sleep patterns and being relaxed and comfortable going to sleep
•She can help you with all of that
•She steps an hour to go to bed so you have enough rest
•You two always sleep together since she knows about your paralysis so she will comprobar that you actually follow a sleep pattern
•And she tries to calm you and reassure you that nothing will happen while you sleep
•Caressing you, hugging you and being your personal teddy bear
•Of course with all of her usual shyness and clumness but it does help you feel better
•And if that doesn't stop your sleep paralysis then she knows the medicine that can help stop them
•She either prescribes you imipramine or clomipramine
•The point is that, however she manages to you do stop having those paralysis
•So go and thank your nurse girlfriend! She's definitely the best!
Did I write way too much for Kazuichi's one? Yes. Do I care? No, because I love him and he deserves all the love in this world
Well, I love how this came out too, the sleep paralysis S/O is a very good topic but I will cut it in two parts again so... wait a couple of days for the next one~ ♡ • Tenko can’t understand it either

i saw seven deadly sins au and went !!!!!!!!!!! this stuff is my weakness. ty long au anon ily <3 /p
anonymous said:
Hi this is that same anon that keeps making long au plots. Here's a seven deadly sins/Demon au where Nagito is the sin of envy, Hajime is the sin of Greed, and Chiaki is the sin of sloth. They are a horrible trio.
-Hajime, as a demon of Greed, really loves finding and hoarding extravagant and pretty things, whether they are his or not.
-Yes Nagito and Chiaki are both apart of his collection. He stole two other demons because "pretty”
-Nanami stayed because not only is she always sleeping and Hajime's cozy little place is nice, but because friend <3
-Nagito stayed because he's lonely, bored, petty, and wanted the pretty boy who called him pretty before sweeping him off his feet's,,attention.
-oh lore time. Hell is a lawless place but there is still a semblance of order between groups of sins. Sins are kind of like their Own species. There's a certain chart of what sin is compatible with what sin, and it's agreed by every sin never to put a demon of envy and a demon of Greed together.
-this is because both envy and Greed as sins are too similar together. Both sins ambitions and motives to get something stem from their desires of want. The difference is envy ways something of someone else, while greed wants anything it can get.
-the problem at first was that Hajime's instinct pulled him to take anything he wanted as his, while Nagito only wanted Hajime (and Chiaki) as his. And he didn't like Hajime's want for others.
-Nagito has nothing against chiaki, even as a demon of envy. This is because demons of sloths are usually considered "neutral" or tolerable territory between all the sins. At first Nagito thought he would have to be competitive to get Hajime's attention but then one time Chiaki and Hajime got into a verbal disagreement and Chiaki went, "friendship over with Hajime, Nagito is my best friend now" And then fell asleep on him.
-Hajime would've gotten annoyed because, greedy, but then he sees Nagito moved to tears at being called a friend and he's like, "IIl let them have that, this time." And then moved closer so they all cuddled.
-of course nagito was in the middle and got stuck between a demon of sloth and Greed as pillow. Tug o war with Nagito's body never became so intense.
-Nagito, is still very petty when he thinks something else has taken away both his partner's interest in him, so he will become very passive aggressive. Usually that was a problem in the past but it has gotten easier knowing that you can buy his forgiveness through physical affection.
-oh did I mention they're all lovers? They keep calling each other "best friend" or "friend" despite sharing romantic intimacy because that's what they started out as and they're just inseparable from each other. They just love each other alot regardless of platonic or romantic feelings. They just want to be a starring role in the other's heart ❤️
-their lives are a bit different than canon, especially since the era they died in is not modern day.
-Chiaki was born normal/middle class until a war or invasion broke out. The city was one of thr firsts to get hit hard by invading forces, and her parents, who were respectable bakers/market people were hit hard. Her town was raided at night constantly and threatened. The bakery was constantly stolen from and vandalized. Many of the sleepless nights stayed with her as she sat with her parents and they held her in their arms. One night her parents got caught in the crossfire in the bakery while it was vandalized, and with no siblings and no neighbors, sleep deprived and tired of it all, chiaki decided she'd at least go with a struggle. She poisoned the invaders supply of food for nights on end until the sleep deprivation got to her and she was dead before they could get to her. Now though she gets to sleep all she wants.
-Hajime was the child of a corrupt father and a diseased mother, who didnt/wouldn't give him the attention he craved. When his mother died she only managed to hide her one belonging (a necklace) and gave it to him before she died. His father sold him everything else. His father wasn't abusive, per say, but he took pride in seeing himself in Hajime, and constantly hyped up his "love" for Hajime when he showed the same ambitions as him, while downplaying anything else he deemed unworthy (his mother's kind hearted temperament). So while Hajime still retained his mother's sense of being fair and caring, the ambition to take everything got pounded into him by his father constantly until both of them got a bit blurry. Sad thing is his father loved money more than him and when the angry people who his father scammed burnt his house down, he couldn't care less about his kid and ran with the valuables, leaving Hajime to die in the fire.
-Nagito grew up with a mother who was a seamstress, who was unhappily married and forced to have a child she didnt want and her husband didn't help her raise him, instead he cheated on her behind her back. While she never hurt him, she was emotionally detached from the trauma and pain, and couldn't give him the love he needed as a kid. She instead, tried (and actually managed to achive) some sort of loving emotional bond with her kid through tailoring. Idk how he dies but I was imagining something happens and he and his mother die, and while his mother dies in peace, he dies in envy of another family his father has built and how happy he is.
-(While Hajime's sin might have festered as he grew because of his father, Nagito might have been born sharing the sin of envy with his mother, who envied people being able to live their life. )
-(also yes, I did get these backstories referencing vocaloid songs)
-idk that shit got depressing fast I'm sorry. I can say now though they are happy Imao.
-oh Oh, they also have fun picking a single human and then tormenting them. I don't mean tormenting them as in making their life miserable, but tormenting them by making it very inconvenient and wild. Currently the human they're bullying is Kazuichi.
lmaooo kazuichi............babe i am so sorry you’re getting triple teamed by three demons dksnxksnx he’s probably perpetually in the *clutches beanie in fear* pose—
also!!!!! sin of envy nagito!!!!!! so pog??? i actually have hajime down as the sin of envy for my own 7DS au but.............*looks intensely*
also also i can just see chiaki monopolizing all of hajime’s comfy furniture lmao. he’s a little annoyed bc “that’s mine >:T” but also he’s not very inclined to stop her bc she usually just makes grabby hands to signal for hugs, so he gets to use the couch anyway. it’s all good <3
also i do indeed see the vocaloid references and my mind is running wild bc enbizaka my beloved <3 i still wanna redo the written version of it at some point........

omg hiiii~~~ ~ ~~~ mod mahiru!!!!! can u pls make a fanfic where shuichi and kokichi play minecraft and they decide to put their beds next to eachother 🥰😍😙🤩
Kokichi puts his Minecraft bed next to Shuichi’s
Tumblr media
I kinda read it wrong and thought you said Kokichi puts his bed next to Shuichi’s so uh, sorry.
Mod Kokichi’s oneshot!
It was your typical Saturday morning in Tokyo Japan; Children were playing, some adults were working, y’know, the usual.
However, this Saturday was a special Saturday for a purple-haired, lying gremlin. That gremlin is Kokichi Ouma if you didn’t know. He’s been in love with one of his friends for a while now. That friend was Shuichi Saihara, the opposite of Ouma.
Ever since their first year at Hope’s peak academy, they became close, close enough to care about each other more than friends. The two didn’t see the other’s obvious signs and everyone else saw their chemistry, but it wasn’t their job to get them together.
Granted, Miu Iruma, aka Kokichi’s second-best option for love and advice, Rantaro Amami’s the first, tried to set them up on a date but the two misread it for a casual hangout. Miu put so much work into her plan, gave them tickets to a movie, suggested ice cream, etc. Well, all she did was look up “How to set up your gay friend on a date with someone they’ve been obsessed with since forever” and saw the most reliable link.
Thinking about it now, Tsumugi Shirogane must have made that and put it on a public blog and hoped that one of their friends saw it, but who knows.
Anyways, this was it! Kokichi had enough of Shuichi thinking his flirts were playful and were romantic, enough of making so many sexual jokes and only having Shuichi tell him to knock it off, he just had enough!
So, he made up his mind. He was finally going to tell him, he was going to tell Shuichi Saihara the truth, the truth that he wanted their friendship to get a bit more serious. After talking on the phone with three of his upperclassmen friends about how they got into a relationship, he knew what to do.
He didn’t go with Byakuya Togami’s plan where to directly tell him in a private area and go do something later, but he did wonder why Makoto Naegi liked him back…
He didn’t go with Taeko Yasuhiro’s plan where to just go all out and kiss him out of nowhere, not give a crap about what anyone said or did after they kissed, at a McDonalds’! He did however had a deep thought if he wanted to do that at a Starbucks or a Barns ‘n Nobles…
He instead went with Chiaki Nanami’s plan, his best friend Nagito Komaeda was busy doing something...probably chilling at Hajime Hinata’s house, but Chiaki was his best bet full on knowing that Sonia Nevermind and her agreed on marriage after they finished school. What she recommended was to do something that made it clear that the supreme leader likes the detective, and that was to place his Minecraft bed next to Shuichi’s.
So now he’s waiting for Shuichi to be online on discord so they can play. Sooner than he thought, his beloved just got online and join the call.
“Sorry I was late Kokichi, Kaede asked me what she should wear on her date with Miu.”
Shuichi said, apologizing to the grape panta loving boy.
“Eh, it’s fine.”
Kokichi lied, knowing full well that he was panicking and thinking that his plan won’t work. The stomping and pacing in his room surely worried his mother earlier.
“So, what did you wanna do? You did say you wanted to play Minecraft but neither of us knows how to play.”
The detective asked.
“I mean, how hard could it be? It’s just crafting and mining until you beat a dragon.”
The supreme leader told him with confidence in his voice.
To his surprise, he was surely wrong. Once the sun started setting and the mobs starting coming, neither of them knew what to do and ended up getting killed. Sadly, both boys respawned far away from each other and couldn’t find the other for over an hour. After a while, they managed to find the other, well Shuichi found Kokichi in a cave about to fall into the lava.
“So uh, I have enough wood to make a house. All I need is coal and we can make a starter home.”
Shuichi told Kokichi in an apolojetic tone.
‘This is it, it’s finally going to happen! I’m going to put my bed next to Shumai’s!’
Kokichi thought with uneasiness.
Once Shuichi started to build the temporary home while Kokichi was finding coal back in the cave. Once he did, he headed back to Shuichi finding the home complete. It wasn’t too big, but it wasn’t too small either. That’s when it hit him. The sun started to set and Shuichi had placed his bed down.
“C’mon Kokichi, we need to sleep.”
The emo boy told him.
“Ok! Hold on meanie.”
The panta lover joked.
Kokichi walked up to Shuichi’s bed and placed his down right next to it, hoping his crush got a hint.
“O-oh uh...”
Shuichi stuttered
“Alright let’s get to sleep.”
Kokichi was annoyed, not a playful annoyed but genuinely annoyed. He had made so many hints and wanted his beloved to realize he had feelings for him. He was going to tell him directly through discord.
He began to type in the chat his true feelings for him and kept typing and typing until he saw what he wrote. It was at least a paragraph long, but he didn’t care; he needed Shuichi to realize it. So he put it in the chat and disconnected leaving a blushing, oblivious idiot to read his confession.
The End.

danganronpa 👀
god thank you for the excuse to talk about these losers (affectionate)
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) - YOU EXPECT ME TO PICK JUST ONE?????? actually this is easy it's 100% gundham. all day every day I am thinking about the Supreme Overlord of Ice and his Four Dark Devas of Destruction
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped) - CHIAKI NANAMI MY BELOVED...... SHE'S SO CUTE I absolutely adore her. lil cat hoodie gamer girl....... her angry puffy cheeks sprite... perfection.
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) - IMPOSTER!!!!!!!! I WILL SING THEIR PRAISES TO HIGH HEAVEN I love the ultimate imposter so much......... their final free time event makes me WEEP
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week) - mukuro ikusaba, the - (static crackling) - student, the one they call the ultimate - (loud foghorn noise cuts me off)
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave) - it's kokichi and no, I do not take constructive criticism.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason) - god there are so many good choices... I think I'm gonna go with byakuya. it's between him and hajime, since I think they both need more angst, but hajime gets plinko'd way more in canon so it's only fair that I plinko byakuya instead. is plinko even a verb?? anyway
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell) - I would round out the antagonist trio and say komaeda (lovingly), but he chickened out of his gay love confession, so he can't join the gay angel from supernatural in superhell. so in that case, I am condemning teruteru to superhell for horny on main crimes. (miu is also horny on main, but she's funnier than teruteru, so she gets a pass)

A/N HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BELOVED CHILD, CHIAKI.
Games-Giving - wherein Nanami gives out games to the rest of the sdr2 kids
Somewhere in between the crammed spaces was a logical explanation as to why everyone was packed into Nanami's already condensed cottage.
Initially, she wanted to bring her stuff with her to the lobby where it's much more spacious but looking back at her hoards of console she knew that it would take too many trips and by then someone would have walked in and ruined the surprise for the rest. Besides, wasn't this a surprise in its own way? Granted there's barely enough room for them to breathe and much less to play but it would have to do. Once everyone had settled in as much as they could possibly have, Nanami started handing out the games and necessary consoles.
"Hanamura, you're getting Cooking Mama." She says and before he could be offended at a cheap knock-off of real cooking, she explains her choice. "I know how much you miss your mom... I know that the mama here isn't exactly like yours, maybe. But I figured it might help with the homesickness hopefully."
He looks at a loss for words. "This is... a wonderful choice." And before he could get sappy, old habits kick in. "I'll have you know that you are an exquisite choice yourself. You don't need to flatter me with gifts if you want to spend a good time with me."
She listens quietly, unresponsive. And then stoically turns to her next recipient. "I got you Fat Princess. It reminded me a lot of you while I was playing. It has food and strategy, I thought you'd like it... I guess."
Twogami chuckles and it is a genuine heartfelt laughter. He's more than happy to know that he was thought of especially by his one defining character trait. "It's a worthy recommendation. I shall hold back my judgement until I finish it in all of its glory."
She takes that as a sign that he likes it so she turns to meet the curious stare of a redhead. "I got you Life is Strange. It's about this photography student but it's less about taking photos and more of time travel I think... The protag is a girl with short hair and her freckles reminded me of you coincidentally."
"Oh, wow that's some... weirdly specific coincidences." Koizumi admits it's not quite the game she was expecting. She expected a typical point and shoot (with a camera) game but definitely not time traveling.
"Her name's Max so I guess you both have names starting with M." Nanami adds and then tilts her head in inquiry. "Are you okay with this? I can get you something else."
"And miss out on time powers? I think not." Koizumi just shakes her head. Sure, why not? It'd be a nice experience to see in someone else's viewfinder for a change of perspective. "Besides, where else am I going to find a game that stars a girl and photography?"
She nods in agreement. Before Nanami could move on to whom she had planned for next, Saionji beats her to the punch as she unceremoniously jumps onto her. "Me! What about me? What did big sis Nanami get for me?"
She hands her the game with an excited smile. "I think you'll like this one... Bully is an open world with the usual freedom of Rockstar games."
"You had me at bully." Saionji grins deviously.
Nanami shakes her head. "It's not exactly that kind of game..."
"But I still get to do the stuff I like, right?" She smirks and breaks into childish cheer. "Yay! Thank you so much for this! I'll play it to my heart's content!"
She then turns to the nurse who jumps at the sudden attention. "Mikan, I got you Trauma Center. I know it's far from the actual thing but I'm not exactly sure how... different it is." There's a certain genteleness in the way she hands out the game. And shyly, she asks, "Is it alright if I ask for your feedback on this?"
Mikan is still shocked from the experience of affection that it takes her a beat or two to stammer back, "T-Thank you! I'll cherish this forever!!" She cries as she holds onto the game tightly to her chest. "You can count on me! I'll be sure to point out all the inaccuracies."
"Thank you, too." Nanami then turns to the more if not the most excited member of the group. She smiles as she gestures to the whole setup behind her. "Ibuki, you get rockband... The full set."
"Awesome! Ibuki has always wanted to play on these!" Ibuki hollers and she's already at the drums while holding both the guitar and the bass. She looks just about ready to play all instruments at the same time. "The frets on the guitar are buttons! Kyaaah! How wild is that!"
Nanami can't help but get carried along with Ibuki's energy. She's still smiling when she turns to Pekoyama. "If it's sword slashing precision then the best I have is Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. You'll probably appreciate the free slicing blade mode rather than the button mashing on most games... I think."
Pekoyama gratefully accepts the gift with a bow. "This is quite thoughtful of you. Thank you. I will try my best to master the fighting style here."
"And when you get bored of that, take a break and play this instead..." She hands her a portable console this time and when Pekoyama opens it, the game is already on and it's absolutely adorable. "It's Nintendogs. Now those fluffballs won't run away from you... probably."
"I..." Pekoyama's speechless but that's mostly because she's distracted by the puppies hounding at her screen. No animal has ever approached her with such zeal that it catches her off-guard. It's a surprise that she's more than willing to welcome. She locks eyes with Nanami and her lips tug slightly into a sincere smile. "I will remember to return this goodwill of yours."
It doesn't go past Kuzuryuu who watched the whole exchange. When Nanami turned to him, he was caught unaware and so his defenses shot up. "Heh, so you're giving away games based on what we do? Don't tell me you got me one of those dumb trying hard yakuza themed games."
She shook her head. "I don't think you'll like Yakuza that much so I suggest Mafia as a better alternative..." She innocently tilts her head. "Then maybe it's better when you think it's a different culture?"
"Ha! You got a lot of nerve thinking I'll play crap like that." He scoffs at her.
"I'm not. I think you're more respectable than that... maybe." She says not quite sure what she wants to mean. She gives him a different game instead. "This is Undertale. I think you'll like the Fight or Mercy mechanics. You'll choose well, probably."
"Hmph, whatever." He crosses his arms but his expression softens. She got him a game with a pacifist route and he appreciates the gesture. He murmurs, "But thanks anyways. I guess I'll give it a try when I've got nothing else to do."
"I'm sure you'll love it... I think." Nanami crosses the room to the other half of the class and Sonia catches her eyes first. "I was trying to find a game where the protag is a princess but it was hard so... I just went for the game with an... intense female main character. Tomb Raider's a classic and you're pretty hardcore like Lara Croft."
Sonia reads through the summary at the back with sparkling eyes. "Oh, I have always wanted to go on my own expeditions without royal guards hounding me!" She claps her hands in her excitement. "I think this is just a lovely game filled with action and adventure! Thank you!"
"Ah, Gundam." She moved on to the next person on her list. "I know you don't like games about breeding animals since you consider them..." She squints as she tries to find the exact words that he used. "An insult to the actual gods?"
"That is correct!" Gundam agrees with a scowl. "Those are outright blasphemy! Why waste time on fakes when there are actual gods among us? If I were not such a forgiving Dark Lord then I would have rained judgement on all of those atrocities!"
"But is it okay as long as it's not based on actual animals?" She asks with uncertainty. She didn't want to offend Gundam but she's not sure how well he'll take this suggestion of hers. "Monster Rancher is a classic for your type. You get to learn about raising a whole bunch of new species that are literally out of this world... Here, look."
Gundam inspects the game with a snarl at first but as he goes through the monsters, he finds himself more intrigued rather than disgusted. A whole new world to conquer, huh? He breaks out into raucous laughter. "Feast your eyes on these poor lost souls! The time has come for the Tanaka Kingdom to recruit yet more unearthly races! Cower in fear as our strength increases right before your eyes! Bwahaha!"
"Oi, do your delusions more quietly! Nobody cares!" Souda shouts but it falls onto deaf ears since Gundam is already absorbed in raising his first monster. He doesn't want to accept being ignored but then he remembers that he hasn't gotten his game yet and so he turns to Nanami with expectant eyes. "Man, looks like everyone's getting good picks. So what do I get? Is it cool? It's definitely cooler than dork lord's over there, right?"
Nanami's smile is playful. This one was trickier to find but it was an achievement to finally get it. She pulls out a box and brings out its contents. There's the game and console and... a mini-robot. "Meet R.O.B., he's your partner for playing Gyromite."
"This is..." He gapes over the robot and his hands roam over across the plastic, he's already picking it apart in his mind and deciphering how it works. He expected a game but he did not expect it to come with its own mini-robot. His eyes are shining and he almost looks in love. "This is fricking sweet."
Even Nanami thought it was cool and she's sure that Souda thinks of it a tenfold more. While Souda was busy mooning over his new toy, she sets up Owari's. "I couldn't find anything close to your ideal but... Wii Sports is close enough, maybe. As long as you strap on the remote and keep your distance, you can play boxing to your heart's content."
"So I basically beat people up by actually beating them up?" She shouts a battle cry and gets fired up on the spot. "Yosh! I'm game for this!"
"Nidai, I got you FIFA Manager among other coaching games... I couldn't decide which one would be your favorite." She adds that last part shyly but he takes them with a smile as always.
"I'm the best at managing my players! I'll even be the best in these games of yours!" Nidai lets out a hearty laugh. "I'd watch out for your highscore if I were you."
"I'll take that as a challenge." She then turns to the last two of her list.
Komaeda is already wearing his trademark lopsided smile and is eager to see what new hope would be born out of this. "I'm grateful that you would even consider giving me a game- the embodiment of your hope- when I'm trash undeserving of such greatness. I feel bad that you bothered thinking about me when I'm worthless."
Nanami lets out a sigh and her hands are on Komaeda's face in a heartbeat. "Stop talking like that or you won't get yours."
"But I don't-"
"Stop." She puffs her cheeks while she pinches his.
"Ow! Okay, okay. I concede." He chuckles and even raises his hands in a show of defeat. "I'm still new to this whole thing about people thinking I'm worth more than I really am."
She stares at him for a long time, judgingly, taking his words into careful consideration. She huffs again and releases him. "Close enough."
"Well you do inspire me to try, you know." He smiles and there's laughter dancing on his lips. "The truth is I've never been this excited in my life! Oh, aside from that time I received my acceptance letter to Hope's Peak Academy that is."
Somehow he always brings back the conversation to hope. She shakes her head and there's a small smile forming. "Here. Try this."
He takes the phone in his hand with the camera on and it surprises him slightly when something else appears on the screen. "Uh, Nanami? Is there supposed to be a creature here?"
Her hand quickly swipes the phone out from his grip and her face practically beams. "A Lapras! As expected from Komaeda's luck!" She flicks her finger a few times and by the fifth pokeball, she catches it with a triumphant smile. "I've been looking everywhere for her. Thanks for helping me out."
"No problem." He chuckles and then inquires, "So I'm guessing that wasn't actually my game."
She smiles shyly and then hands him his true gift. "That's Legend of Mana and it's legendary for its unique luck system. Almost the whole game is rigged on luck... I think."
"I see. Then it is fitting for me." He smiles broadly. "As expected from the ultimate gamer. Instead of bringing me the usual games, you hand me an excellent rpg. I will not let you down and maximize my luck just as much as your hope inspires me!"
"As long as you have fun." She giggles and there's a cough behind her. When she turns around, she sees the only person who has yet received a game from her. She smiles wider. "Hello there, Hinata."
"Uh, hi." He flushes and then straightens himself after a shaky breath. He fidgets from being too tense for his own good. He's nervous even though he has no reason to be. He looks like the only person who's afraid of what he's about to get. "I know I don't have any talent and all... so I'm sure you had a hard time finding a game for me."
"Oh, not really." She objects readily and she makes sure that her voice comes out as reassuring as possible. She finds his worries odd especially when there's no trouble at all. "Actually... I picked out yours first."
"What?" He shoots her a look of confusion. And when he holds the game in his hands, he feels absolutely lost. "Danganronpa...?"
"I feel like it's life-and-death important for you to be good at this." Nanami says in a tone that's too serious to be talking about just games. And then in the next moment, she's back to her laidback self. "By the way, it's a series and I've already finished the latest one: New Danganronpa V3 or ndrv3 for short."
"Um..." He's still staring at the game and trying hard to read its hidden meaning but he comes up with nothing. He feels that there's a joke somewhere in there that he's missing. "Wait, so how did you end up picking this out for me?"
"Just an important feeling... probably." She casually shrugs. There's something cryptic underneath her words but he doesn't have the code to decipher them and so he just loads the game with skepticism and caution. She nods at him approvingly. "When you're done with that one, I'll lend you the second one. I'm sure you'll find the sequel more... interesting, I think."
Nanami pulls out her own portable console and continues the minigame she left off. Every now and then she looks up to check on her classmates if they needed any help but they're too engrossed with their own games, some more loudly than others. Playing games with everyone here is different from her usual peaceful solitude but it's a good kind of different. It's nice, she thinks.
And in this crammed cottage of Nanami's where everyone is busy having fun, she thinks that everything is as it should be.
