idk who needs to hear this but if you’re a Streamer™ then you probably already have a lot of the knowledge & tools you need to digitize VHS tapes

(and even if you’re not a streamer, it’s probably easier than you think it is!)

if you have a decent computer + you know how to use OBS, you’re already off to a great start! and if you have a capture card, even better!

literally just plug a VCR into a capture card (get an rca to hdmi converter if the capture card doesnt have rca input) + record the footage in OBS. look up guides on the best settings to use for VHS recording in OBS, adjust ur settings accordingly, and you’re good to go. it’s that easy. dig out ur family’s old home videos, offer to digitize stuff for other people (for money or as a favour or as a gift), preserve some random old tapes u have lying around.... u can just Do That!! we Have the Technology ♥

#ray speaks #today's my sister's birthday & i didnt really have a present for her so i just sent her all her baby videos that i'd been digitzing anyway.. #she was THRILLED. said it was the best bday present ever. & our parents got her a CAR (just the old family car; but still; a whole CAR) #i know a lot of people probably already got their tapes digitized or converted to DVD ages ago. but my family never got around to it.... #& now i'm just doing it myself. & maybe my recordings arent the best most professional quality but hey it's vhs; it's low quality anyway #my whole recording setup cost me $150. couldve been less if i'd gone for a cheaper capture card; couldve been more if i didnt have a VCR #(im very thankful that my family still had a working VCR tucked away in the basement) #all extremely Worth It. i get to preserve precious old memories + everyone around me who isn't very tech-savvy thinks i'm The Coolest #highly recommend
