This is going to be a long post, and I apologise for that. However I do not apologise for putting my boundaries as clear as possible, and will not apologise for doing so. All of the rules below exist for a reason, and I have them for my own comfort.

It is okay if you don’t agree with them BUT IT’S NOT OKAY TO IGNORE THEM. If you think you cannot follow the posted rules, then do not follow this blog. Thank you !!

General

These are the basics, a re-hash of rules that almost everyone has but that I like to cover anyway just in case!

Read ALL important pages: rules, disclaimer, muse list & info for the muse(s) you want to interact with

Use proper punctuation and spellings to the best of your abilities

Mark clearly whether an ask is IC or OOC

No godmodding

No maiming, killing, etc. of my muses without my permission

No choosing of thoughts or big actions of my muses without my permission

Hate, anon or otherwise, will be reported and deleted. Users will be blocked.

There may be an occasional mention that I do this if there’s some kind of repeat, but I will not place the content itself on the dash.

Asks and IMs are always welcome!!

Specifics

These are some of the rules that have been established over time for my own sake, and to make everyone’s time on here a lot easier!

Your age must be listed somewhere I can easily find it! I’m not comfortable writing some content with muns or muses who are under 18

If I cannot find that information I am unlikely to follow, and I will not write that content with you, as it’s safer to err on the side of caution.

It takes time for me to check through all my followers, so please don’t ask if I haven’t followed back right away or unfollow, unless I post very specifically about dumblr fucking things up.

There’s any number of reasons I may do either, but the more we happily interact and talk the more likely I am to follow or re-follow.

With rare exception, I will not interact with any blogs that contain digits in them.

I do both regular capitalization and zero capitalization for threads, depending on partner and length of the thread

Headlines will be done in subtext size, again mostly for aesthetic

Parentheses and brackets will be BOLDED and italicized, on the whole

Mumus, I love you and your dedication, but I am most selective with you. Yes, even as a mumu myself.

The more fandoms covered and more muses included, the less likely I am to hop on board mostly because I prefer a clean dash.

If we’re close friends ooc I’ll likely be far more lenient

OCs with a main spn-canon faceclaim will not be accepted unless the muse has been around longer than the canon being cast or if they look/act markedly different than the canon ( Karen Gillan with all her hair vs as Nebula, for example ).

Unless plotted otherwise, they will not know my muses, but they can know of my muses

Second-Gens ( kids of the original set(s) of main canons ) make me uncomfortable for a number of reasons, and so will be interacted with on a case-by-case basis.

Again, OCs with mcu-canon faceclaims will not be interacted with unless they meet at least one of the two criteria listed above.

However, if I pick a FC for someone related to this blog that isn’t canon, it’ll likely be shrugged off as uncanny lookalike, or we can otherwise plot around it.

Animated FCs are welcome, but I’ll admit that specifically anime blogs are unlikely to be interacted with. Sorry

If a canon has an alternate faceclaim: cool! Just have it listed somewhere obvious, please

FCs I will not interact with: Mark Sheppard, Selena Gomez, Mads Mikkelsen, Miley Cyrus, Justin Beiber, Sara Bareilles, Andrew Scott, Zooey Deschanel, Natalie Dormer. The list may be periodically updated; yes, it is okay to ask me about specific names and why these ones are listed.

Shipping

There will be a good deal of F/F, F/M, and M/M on this blog both in visual and text.

May ( read: probably will ) include three+somes.

Implication and mention to graphically clear are likely, and will be tagged.

By default, ALL my muses are single, with the noted exceptions of Frigga ( until Odin chooses to pass ) Dugan and Peggy if it’s circa 1952-after, and Sam who is widowed and single post-2012, unless plotted otherwise.

Please don’t assume there will be a ship between your muse and mine without plotting first, positively or negatively !!

Specific to Peggys: don’t be alarmed by my above warning, Dugan/Peg is my muses only and not something I expect to be followed. I will also not expect a ship with Steve.

specific to Steves: I will not expect a ship with Peggy, Bucky, or Sharon

However, Bucky loves Steve, bordering on obsessively. Whether it’s platonic, romantic, or completely one-sided pining is up to plotting and muse chemistry.

if we are writing stucky, Bucky is the one who will be in it first.

James is incredibly anxious about dealing with Steve for many reasons, and more anxious about the possibility of infringing on Bucky’s territory.

It is one of few ships that will require Bucky’s active participation if you want James involved, because James will refuse Steve otherwise.

if we are writing steggy, it will not be eg-canon compliant

Specific to Peppers: Tony cares ( depending on point in time, deeply ) for her, but I will not expect a ship and it must be plotted out.

They could be exes, almosts, currently dating, platonically attached, whatever we would like! But it must be plotted.

specifically for Janes: I do not automatically lead with fosterson! My default is somewhere between slow burn infatuation or mutual, friendly separation. Thor adores her in any type of relationship though, and supports her endeavors and enthusiasms

For Bucky and James, dating one of them does not mean you have to be dating the other.

It would be marginally easier depending on time and verse tho

Specifically for Natashas: I include the generality of James being at the Red Room, but we must plot about including the affair or not. It is not my default canon.

if we are defaulting to winterwidow, James is the one most familiar with her, not Bucky. James was the fronting personality when they originally met, and Bucky’s recollection of events will be hazy if present at all.

If you want to ship Nat with Bucky, it must be plotted and must account for the prior/continuing relationship with James

For Sharon, she has no romantic interest in men ( yes including Steve ).

if she ends up with a comics-inclined verse this may change but will still require heavy plotting.

I will not be ship-exclusive with any blogs

I will have mains but it’s on unofficial terms

For all my writing partners: I will happily plot ships, and details! But I won’t have an assumed prior romantic/sexual history between our muses.

Have a Black Magical Kwanzaa

Hey everybody.

“Nigga, where the fuck were you! This post was supposed to come out in NOVEMBER!” Sorry about that ya’ll. So, so sorry about that. I won’t lie, it’s actually been finished for a long time but..things just kept getting away from me (ya’ll know I got issues). I’m sorry about that, next years WILL come much earlier than this. But if any of ya’ll are still interested, here’s all my ideas for how to celebrate Kwanzaa, the afro-pagan way.

Umoja (Unity): “To strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race.”

The main idea behind Umoja is unity (that’s literally what the official meaning is, duh). So how do we unify? Well, first we need to know where all of us are. I mean us Black witches/wizards/spirit workers/whatever the fuck term you use. On December 26th, let’s have a day where we all post selifes, bio-posts (tell us about your life, how you got involved in magic, etc), pics of your altars and tools, spell ideas, etc. Right now, the afro-pagan, afro-witch, African spirituality, etc tags are all lowkey dead (sure, people post in them, but there’s only one or two new posts a day). I want us to build a community of Black people that practice magic. And we can’t do that if we don’t all know each other, so let’s get to know ourselves.

Kujichagulia (Self-Determination): To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves.

Self-determination in magic is simple: make something for yourself. Use today to make a wand, build an altar, write a spell, construct an amulet, etc. For those of you that use alternative names in your magic, or have been interested in doing so, take today to rename yourself for your practice (I actually have a ton of them, Se-Osiris Anubis being just one). Now, there is a sort of ‘catch’ to all of this, and those of you that follow my posts already know what it is: “Stay Black for best results.” What that saying means here is that whatever you do on December 27th, it should be Black as fuck. If you name yourself, try and pick a name that’s relevant to our culture (nah, you don’t need to go get an African Baby Name book, because Kodjo is no more a ‘real’ name than Jadarius. All names which are recognized by Black cultures are empowered by and also empower the culture’s they’re from, to bash our names is to bash our heritage. Okay, I ranted on this one too much, back to the post….), if you’re writing a spell, write it in the style of one of our numerous musical/poetic genres (such as Rap or NeoSoul). Also, try and make at least one of the things (or at least, one aspect) service the global Black community in some way. If making a spell for a job, include a line that references additionally aiding all Black people in a job search, for example.

Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility): To build and maintain our own community together and make our brother’s and sisters problems our problems and to solve them together.

This one is a bit trickier for me to come up with an idea for. The best I can come up with…we all analyze some issue that Black people experience, and we hold a ceremony asking a higher power to eliminate that problem, or write a spell to do so. We don’t all have to pick the same one, because Black people got a lot of stuff to deal with, let’s be real. Whatever you’re using your power to try and fix, post about it in the tags, so we can all know and help out from our end. Like, if you design a sigil to protect Black people against police brutality and post it in the tags, we can all share it and add our own energy to it. (Yes, I’m basically giving all of you excuses to spam the tags with emoji spells).

Ujama (Cooperative Economics): “To build and maintain our own stores, shops and open businesses and to profit from them together”

I won’t lie, this is the one that I’m most excited for. ATTENTION BLACK PEOPLE! IF YOU ARE A VENDOR OF ANYTHING SPIRITUAL (be it tools, supplies, divination work, etc) PROMOTE YOURSELF IN THE TAGS SO WE CAN ALL GET TO KNOW YOU EXIST!!!!!!!

Nia (Purpose): “to make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness.”

The reason this post took so long is because I can’t for the life of me figure out what to do for this one. Anyone got any ideas?

Kuumba (Creativity): “To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.”

Creativity is already central to magic. We need to be creative in order to make our magick work, and also in order to come up with new systems and ideas and techniques and shit. Use today to post all your ideas and tips for new stuff, or improvements on pre-existing things. I”ll be posting a few of my own afro-magic tips, but I also want to see all of yours.

Again, these are just ideas, feel free to reblog with more and I’ll reblog your reblog. Sorry these aren’t groundbreaking, explicit instructions but everyone does magick different and everyone does Kwanzaa different, and I wanted to be respectful of that. Plus, I understand that some of ya’ll may not have the ability to do a lot, either cuz it’s magic and your surroundings are religious, cuz it’s Kwanzaa and your surroundings are conservative/anti-black, or both. It’s low effort, sure, but low-effort doesn’t mean low-impact. Oh, and this goes without saying but if you don’t on a regular basis identify even partially as Black, please don’t touch this. Kwanzaa is a sacred holiday for us, it’s not something you can just pick up cuz it looks ‘cool’.

Body Swap - An April Fools' spell gone horribly wrong. Or, right, if you ask one stupid wizard.

The Shirt - A random rainstorm bears surprising fruit for Harry Dresden. Pre-Changes.

Wedding Traditions - Harry and Murphy suffer through one of the most embarrassing wedding traditions, but maybe it's not all bad.

Moonlight and Meddling Vampires - The plan was set. Thomas Raith was going to get Harry Dresden and Karrin Murphy to prom one way or another. Dresden Files high school AU, but bite-sized.

Noise Complaint - It turns out Harry and Murphy's union has some unintended consequences.

In Vino Veritas - A reverse AU scene of the short story "Last Call" in Side Jobs. What if Harry found Meditrina first and Murphy walked in on them?

100 Days, 100 Nights - Two missing scenes between Harry Dresden and one of the only people on earth who knows Karrin Murphy as well as he does--her mother, Marion.

Home for the Holidays - Murphy takes Harry home for the Thanksgiving holiday. It goes about as well as expected. Post Skin Game.

Kiss (Part Two) - The three off-screen kisses before Proven Guilty...but from Murphy's perspective.

Broken - Karrin Murphy gets a Denarian coin. Post Small Favor, pre Changes. AU.

Of Grave Importance - In the aftermath of Grave Peril, both Harry and Murphy are struggling to pull themselves out of a downward spiral. But maybe they can make it together. Pre-Summer Knight. Harry and Murphy POVs.

History of YOI fandom

As a YOI fandom grandparent, I felt it was my duty to write out all the fandom explosions for the newer fans who weren’t there to witness the big bang and gradual week-by-week creation of this universe. All the arguments, people blowing things out of proportion, blaming characters, death theories, awesome fans clearing up miscommunications, YOI breaking the internet...

This isn’t a post to call out specific people on their arguments and theories - I’ll stay respectfully away from restarting flames and picking fights, thankyouverymuch. Rather, this is an overview of the topics and conflicting views that swept across hundreds and thousands of people and prompted strong reactions. I’m doing this now, because I know that 6 months later, 1 year later, 3 years later, etc. there will be new fans who will have many of the same exact arguments. We’ve been there and done that. I see fans now who say things without knowing where the spelling/quote comes from, or who don’t realize how much has changed, or don’t know why there are certain perceptions of characters. So here’s a little bit of passing down history.

I also don’t want to forget the crazy ride this was. Laugh with me at the silly theories; smile with me at how deeply YOI has impacted our lives. For those of us old-timers, let’s take a trip down memory lane. Remember when...

Pre-series

Idea that there would be a love triangle (Yuri P.--Yuri K.--Victor)

Some fans started spelling Yuri Katsuki with two “u” in order to tell them apart.

Victuri ship name created for Victor x Yuri K. (in a comment to the PV)

The title

“lol ‘Yuri’ on Ice? Where are all the lesbians?”

“When it said Yuri on Ice, I thought we would get girls. Y’know what I mean?”

“Yuri on Ice? More like Yaoi on Ice! amiright?”

etc.

J.J. misspelling (English spelling “Jean Jack” instead of French Canadian “Jean-Jacques”)

you can see the remnants of this in the audience banners during the episodes, but it was corrected to “Jean-Jacques” on the official website and the in-show text

Phichit x Seung-gil ship created (there was more art for this than for Victor x Yuuri)

Episode 1

Victor vs. Viktor spelling arguments

Although “Victor” is the official spelling and seen in-show, people argued that the creators are wrong and that we fans know better than them about Russian culture - thus the “Viktor” spelling was born.

People argued back that spelling is subjective and you can spell a name multiple ways and still be correct - thus transliterating his Russian name into English as “Victor” would be just as acceptable.

The YOI wiki held fast for a time on using official spellings and information from the official website, but the transition of power led to a new team that started using agreed-upon info rather than solely using official info. “Viktor” replaced “Victor” on the website.

this change from “Victor” to “Viktor” on the wiki happened around episode 2~3, but the arguments were in the page comments since episode 1 -- with moderators explaining their reasoning with sticking to official sources.

Victor is a flirtatious over-the-top character who will seduce Yuuri

Victor is the overwhelming seme and Yuuri is the shy whimpering uke.

People dropping the anime because Yuuri is overweight; people commenting that they don’t want to see an overweight main character

in addition, some people dropping YOI due to feeling that the series was “fat shaming” by using Yuuri’s weight as a point of comedy.

Conversely, some people praising that we have a main character that gains weight and actually has an overweight appearance.

“Japanese Yuri” &“Russian Yuri” or “Yuri K.” &“Yuri P.” were used to differentiate between the two characters since they shared the same official English spelling “Yuri”.

Starting with ep1, “Yuuri” spelled with two “u” became more widespread due to convenience when typing.

Japanese fandom simply used kanji for Yuri Katsuki and katakana for Yuri Plisetsky.

Some fans argue that Yuuri is more correct because in Japanese his name is ゆうり(yu-u-ri). Other fans argue that “Yuri” is still acceptable transliteration because there are multiple spelling systems (Hepburn, etc.) and an alternative correct spelling would be with a macron (Yūri).

Fans point out that Yuri’s name would be spelled “Yuri” in official documents anyway due to lack of macrons on many keyboards.

Spoilers for episodes 1-3 were out because of the two Western fans who witnessed the first three episodes of YOI in a Tokyo preview screening.

fans relied on a certain blogger for info on YOI.

“WHERE DID YOU SEE EPISODES 2&3???” was asked every 5-10 minutes (literally) and became an inside joke with us old-timers.

Yuuri = Yuzuru Hanyu, Victor = Evgeni Plushenko.

Crunchyroll released a statement on Twitter about YOI’s high traffic breaking it.

After the series, we saw Oh!SkaTra!!! and the DVD/BD volumes sell ridiculous amounts - easily placing in either 1st or 2nd place on Oricon’s charts for DVD, BD, CD, and CD digital release. The Blu-ray and DVD volumes continue to hold high sales. Magazines continue to be translated. Some ideas/meta are confirmed and others become defunct.

It was a wild ride from way back when YOI was only a website and PV. Every week brought new ideas, writings, meta, art, and discussions. It was to the point where some weeks you would get in-depth meta and polished art just hours after the episode aired. In fact, there was so much made that you could easily reblog hundreds of posts in a day for the more explosive episodes, and meta would either get hundreds of notes or be lost in the current of new stuff appearing every few minutes. At the rate that it’s still going with new campaigns, events, and merchandise, Yuri!!! on ICE will be active for quite some time.
