I’m going to do my own modified AO3 wrapped thing here, just for my own records and acknowledgement of what this year was for me, both in fic writing and in writing on my novel. If you feel like checking out your own 2022 stats and going, “Well, would you look at that!” feel free to join me! :D

My total words written in 2022: 202,347! For the first time with @gywo I went for the Basic challenge, and I’m so happy and proud that I made it there!

The number of words I posted to AO3 was 132, 935. Which means the difference, 69,412, is what I wrote on my original novel this year. By my count, I have around 50k left on the novel total, so I didn’t sign up for Basic again, just a Modest 150k. I think I can manage 100k in fic again. :D

It was my 10th year writing in the Harry Potter fandom, and I celebrated that with 10 ficlets written in January of last year. I posted three ficlets last night, and that brought me to a total of 300 fics now on AO3!

My stories that did best this year, by hits or by kudos pretty much were:

1. The Only Magic Left Between Us

2. Dicking Draco Down

3. Phoenix in the Fire

and then depending on which metric I’m using:

Good Boy, Music in the Darkness, Willing Blood (written with the glorious @the-starryknight), and Gather Your Will with Mine (of which I only wrote about 100 words, so I don’t think I can take much credit; it was a group effort of love).

I wrote for three fandoms this year. Mostly HP of course. But I also managed several Captive Prince stories, and one wee Locked Tomb piece.

I’m really happy with this year of my writing life. I met my big writing goal, almost met my novel goals (though to be fair they were mighty and I had to go and be sick from Thanksgiving through the end of the year, which messed with how much I’d planned to write on it during that time). I’m very pleased with the words I did write, both for fandom and on my novel. I’m excited for what’s to come!

Thank you all for being in this fandom with me, whether you’re a writer, an artist, a reccer, an avid reader, a commenter, etc. For the fandom olds, a high five for us still kicking around; for people new to fandom this past year, I hope 2022 was joyful and creative for you and that you met, like I have, close and wonderful friends to share this love with; to those of you just finding the fandom now, welcome! I hope everybody has a stellar 2023!

Overall Summary:

Well, this was a less prolific year personally than the last couple. Work stole a lot of my time and energy, and I had to give up my usual habit of writing a chapter ahead and at least one chapter a month. A little personally disappointing, but I’m trying to be optimistic that I still did manage some solid work. The Eye of the Storm should wrap up in the first part of next year, and then we’ll see what comes next! I still have some oneshot ideas I’d like to do, but I also don’t want to burn myself out the way I did several years ago and stop writing altogether again. So I may just let myself try to take it slow and let next year be kind of a creative recovery year. I’d like to start playing with some original ideas too, so maybe it’s a good time to explore. We’ll see!

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

It's so silly but I giggle every time I think about this line:

Of course, Carter gets called to the SGC before the menus are off the table, so Jack is left at the Benihana with two aliens and Daniel.

(From from Weaving Loose Ends.) I don't know why it gets me. Possibly because there's some anime or something abbreviated "bnha" and it shows up in my notes all the time and every time I think for a sec that's what they're talking about.

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

Writing Sam/Jack again at all was a surprise!

And it's a little pathetic next to everyone else already writing epic fics, but I feel like I'm creeping toward writing longer things (my last few things have been over ~10k~, so like... don't everybody applaud at once).

I think my problem is that I like to focus on one thing at a time, so when I'm writing, everything else seems unimportant (work, friends, keeping my house liveable, getting sleep at normal hours, etc) and if I pivot to those other very essential things, I lose the momentum to pick the fic up again. If I figure out how to compartmentalize and work on things in rotation, I'll be unstoppable have more creative range, which would be really nice.

(ao3 fic wrapped! i've done 3, 6, 15-19, 29, 30 so i have probably bored you enough but if you want to know anything else, i'm having fun navel-gazing about fic! 😊)

A year ago this week my life changed. I was hospitalized for ten days in December, missing Christmas and celebrated New Year's from a hospital bed. I later had surgery in July to correct and prevent any further diverticulitis attacks. I learned a lot about myself during my recovery, one of which was I needed to do things that made me happy. Enter the amazing SC fandom and writing. Because I made the decision to put myself out there, I found something I absolutely love to do, met some amazing people (that I now consider friends), and have found a support system I didn't even know I needed. So, thank you! On to 2023!

17. Your favorite character to write this year?

This is hard. Wow. How do I just pick one?? I want to say both my novel protagonists, and I feel I should get them as freebies and still get another from fandom, right? *sweat smiley* Okay but like. Draco from Good Boy. But also Harry from Phoenix in the Fire. (And dammit, Harry in GB and Draco in Phoenix; this question is mean, Starry.) I also rather liked writing the Harry to your Draco in our fic Willing Blood. That was ridiculously fun! And then there was the Draco in Mens Rea, my Wireless. I really love him, the jaunty little fucker.

But also my boy, Teddy. And Charlie. But also Damen, and also Laurent. Dear God, it's all the characters from all the pairings in the favorite pairings question. I've failed, okay? LOL.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

Oof, that's brutal. Both because I have a shitty memory and because... well, it just is! I love the last paragraph from Phoenix! It's rather spoilery, so I don't know that I should share it, but I made myself cry. There are also some parts of my novel that I'm really proud of, but I can't share those either. ;P

I like my Laurent dirty-talking Damen (in a fic that's all about Damen rimming him) and then proclaiming, proudly, “I can use my mouth on you too, you see." That's The Negotiation Feast. And I really like his dirty talk in Vaskian Hospitality too, particularly, "Lay your claim to me. Lay it hard." That fic probably should have been called Lay It Hard, but... Ah well. And this exchange, when Damen realizes Laurent wants Damen to fuck him:

“You would have me…” Damen began, unsure how to finish his own sentence, mad with lust for it and yet unable to reconcile this Laurent with who he’d previously known Laurent to be.

But Laurent, his voice gone harsher still, said, “I would have you,” and he pulled Damen down by the back of the neck, and kissed him.

I'll stop there! I don't want to open stories from earlier in the year and get lost looking for good passages, even though I know I'm missing a couple/a few I really loved.

fuck, I have no words to say how sorry I'm for taking so long to reply to all the ao3 wrapped [writers edition] questions you guys sent me. First I was like crazy busy with work and then on top of everything, last month my laptop died :/ I'm gonna try to reply to it anyway, so hopefully, my phone doesn't mess it up too badly.

2. How many works did you publish this year [2022]?

In 2022, I published 15 works: 14 from TOG (one of the fics has been updated this February, so it's showing up in my 2023 list) and 1 (one) from La Casa de Papel (my previous fandom). 6. Favorite title you used?

I'd say it's a tie between History has cut our throats (JoeNicky, Pirates AU + omegaverse, wip) and What doesn’t kill you (my La Casa de Papel one, also a wip). 27. What do you listen to while writing?

Nowadays, I rarely listen to anything while I write. When I do, it will most likely be some OST. There are a couple of tracks from The Old Boy movie that help me to concentrate.

I spent way too long on this. Because I'm the perfect intersection of nerd who likes looking at numbers and also can't leave anything concerning graphic design alone, apparently.

But I figured that if I spent the time to make this, I might as well upload a blank version in case there's anyone else out there wishing for an AO3 summary of their year like Spotify does, lol.

If you're new to AO3, you'll be able to find a lot of these numbers if you go to your "Statistics" page. For the other ones, you can go to your "Works" page, then use the "Date Updated" filter to only allow anything updated/published within 2022. Then you can look around through the filtering to see which are your most used tags, fandoms, etc. It's up to you whether you want to stick to purely statistics or go with the answer you know is right in your heart no matter what the numbers say. Have fun!

PS - This one is more focused on writers because that tends to be where I most want to see my numbers, but I would totally be open to making a second one focused on reading if there's demand. I still tried to make it so the questions were as open as possible so that you could hopefully interpret it as writing and/or reading!

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

Having never written creatively, other than a few short stories for class assignments 20+ years ago, I have been so surprised at how much of what happens in my stories (dialogue especially, but also events) just happens while I’m writing. There is very little planning, and the characters taking on lives of their own is the weirdest phenomenon!

I am Miss Tardy to the Party for this, but thanks for the ask, anon!!

This was a hard one because I'm usually most proud of my long fics, but I didn't write any this year :D So the one shot I think I'm proudest of is With Great Power... in that I was able to work in all those canon events in a way that (hopefully!) wasn't too contrived.

Pairing you wrote the most for this year?

I thiiiiink it has to be Rin/Haru? They've occupied my brain the most and Free! finally made my top-5 fandoms on AO3. But Aster/Dante from Nu: Carnival is on their heels. I'm working on #3 right now.

Favorite work you wrote this year?

Honestly, it might be The Jellyfish Song (Clear/Aoba, DMMd). I have 0 bad feelings about it. Working on that put me in the most floaty, happy headspace! I still listen to its playlist a lot.
