Crowley's smirk just gets wider and seems to take this statement as a challenge. Aziraphale notices the change in Crowley's expression from behind his desk. I did some casual gathering on the good ol Wik. I don't recognize a lot or any of the previous works that he has been a part of, but it is a plenty some, so feel free to take a look for yourself. for a better idea, I took a glance at him through IMBD as well. I gotta be honest, not to cause any concern but just to be blunt, it's not the best look. when briefly checking out the works that he's done, a good some of them only make it up to 6 stars. only a few actually make it up to 8. but of course this could be due to a couple different factors, such as the source materials being not well known, or just not that great to begin with. after all he works mainly with adaptation. this could be his big break idk maybe :>

honestly, this could be a potential concern as well. we all know that an unfortunate part of the fandom, especially over in japan, is into things the rest of us would rather not see in anime. I don't know why else yana would continue to add fan-service time and time again(I'd rather not think of her personal preferences). so if this person is really interested in pandering to the fanbase, it may lead to some scenes being uncomfortable... as usual. but, I shouldn't focus on the negative, all in all this looks like it will be a good thing! all we want from an anime adaptation is for it to be faithful to the manga, and especially after season 1 and 2, I think this assurance is much needed. besides, this could be an indication that he will be working closely with Yana, and projects that do so have succeeded *points to campania*. I'm optimistic, and I sure hope that we're in good hands.

so unless I'm looking at a different Hiroyuki Yoshino it looks like this guy is a voice actor and singer first... interesting. as far as I can see it, he hasn't voice acted anyone in Black Butler.

I'm not really jumping out of my seat to research this one, no offense to the designer, but I don't think we'll be seeing much character design other than Yana's. as for the artistic style of the anime, we already saw the teaser, and I think we're happy(I am really trilled that they released the announcement at the same time as the teaser, the announcement alone would not have had the same huge impact. plus it reduces the fear of cancelation ;] not putting that out there).

this is someone I really wanted to look into cause the music will matter a lot to me.

I found it, here's the soundtrack for the upcoming season 4.

with a background of jazz and band(popularizes to fusion genre apparently), this guy doesn't appear to fit with previous Black Butler soundtrack history. but I think that this is an indication that the mood and music of this season may be different of the rest due to it now being a sports show lol. and I think that's good! if done right I think the tone change will be hilarious, or, if everyone hates it, it's easily distinguishable from the rest.

So, Silver gets de-aged (bear with me here lol)—maybe due to a potions mishap or a spell gone wrong, it doesn't matter which. It's during Halloween week, so everyone's kinda frazzled due to everything being set up, etc. Lilia gets called to deal with it while Crewel tries to figure out a counter-potion/spell wears off because nobody can get in touch with Malleus, and therefore goes to Diasomnia's vice to help take care of Silver (not knowing that they're father & son).

Silver spots Lilia and yells "Papa!" while running to hug Lilia—while Lilia tries to cover up what Silver said. Regardless, he still picks Silver up and cuddles him—he's a silly old man who loves his kid, who can blame him?

Anyway, kid Silver hijinks ensue: running off with the animals on campus, taking naps surrounded by deer, birds, squirrels, etc., calling Malleus "big brother" and Lilia "papa" while around other Diasomnia students (they wouldn't say anything, because Malleus looks so endeared by the little human and Lilia glares and hisses *unknowingly* at any of them who DARE to interrupt their family).

Silver sees Sebek and looks back at Lilia. He's like, "Why did you make him so tall?? Papa, change him back, please!" *cue puppy eyes* he genuinely thinks Lilia pranked him. As much as Sebek says that he dislikes Silver's behavior, he's actually the one to take him everywhere. "You shouldn't miss so much school, Silver! I won't let you besmirch Waka-sama's good name!"

OK, but back to Halloween—Silver dresses up as a knight, or a prince. Maybe a unicorn??? DRAGON?? Any of them are cute tbh. Anyway, they end up going to each dorm to trick or treat (on Halloween night ofc) and Silver charms everyone, because he's Silver. Then, you have Lilia behind him just being the creepiest little demon fae you've ever had the misfortune to see...

As they're going to one of the dorms to get more candy, Silver sees another kid pouting at the lack of candy said dorm has, and their meager amount. Silver, despite having only a few more pieces himself, gives the kid most of his, and gives the other kid a hug. "There, there, you can have some of mine."

Honestly, you can do whatever you want with this, but I'd love to see this written out more coherently, if you want lol

beside him, serene, the heir apparent to the valley of thorns— looking most pleased himself in their resplendent costumes so artfully reminiscent of the admirable long, yet any dignified mysticism is rendered charmed by the plastic pumpkin bucket clutched in his crimson-tipped claws, brimming with brightly wrapped candy. the overflow is nearly double the amount given to the visiting children, even with silver eagerly dispensing his sugary treasures to any who asked, for no dorm had been able to resist his solemn request coupled with those adorably drowsy eyes and plastic sword when he had so politely asked for one piece more so that their prince might experience trick or treating for the first time. not wanting to be the dorm known for stiffing the fae heir on the most magic-blessed night of them all, both toddling knight and noble dragon walked away, tiny hand in careful claw, with a bounty piled high between them and matching smiles on their twin eager faces. 

lilia had been so torn over which to get a photo of first, cheeks aching from stifling his laughter; the vulnerable delight on malleus’ face as silver so kindly presented him with his share of candy, or sebek’s ill-disguised fussing as silver’s sword had slipped from its sheath to drag across the ground. 

what kindness to be able to share such precious memories with them once again.

what cruelty to remind him of what would disappear tomorrow morning, crewel’s antidote ready and waiting for them in the dorm. 

“...i can see why silver enjoyed such a night of festivity and why he spoke on those memories with you so fondly,” malleus’ reflective tone scatters his wandering thoughts, leaving him to pull his focus back to the present with no small amount of difficulty. “I wish i could have participated in the revelry, but i understand now why you might not have invited me, lilia. the presence of their prince would have dampened any carefree spirits, and i would not have wanted to spoil the fun.”

a wry smile tugs at his lips at malleus’ inaccurate assessment, crooked and out of place, and he can feel the prince’s gaze weighty upon him with surprise, brows furrowing and lips parting with the question on his tongue— 

there had been no such festivities, no happily shrieking village children for silver to scamper among, sharing in the night’s delights and trickery with all the innocence of youth. 

there had only been an old fool of a general, taking it upon himself to fumble through the recreation of a human spectacle, for no other reason than he could not bear the sight of the boy’s features even mildly unhappy. 

he might have wondered how far he could have fallen to find himself repeatedly affecting surprise as he opens the door time and time again to a giggling child, but he knows better now; he had always been steeped in a miserable, lonesome darkness, and to nurture the vulnerable child curled into his chest was to bask in an undeserving light. 

without consent, his arms tighten around the slumbering boy in his arms, and malleus is wise enough not to comment. 

“I do wonder if silver will be able to remember tonight’s events,” lilia comments lightly as they continue their walk to the dorm, seemingly apropos of nothing and unbothered by the watchful gaze of his young companion. 

and he wonders which is more selfish; to wish it so, to have his son’s head filled with such saccharine-sweet dreams of a proper halloween as only a sweet and darling boy like none other deserves— or to cling to the lonely truth of the past, in which a bruised and battered soldier finds a purpose too kind for his bloodied hands in protecting that high and clear laughter of his child, delighting over and over again in the simple fact of his father opening the door.

K so apparently some people on Twitter got upset that people saw Future Growth as romantic.

Here's the thing: an analysis of both Espio and Silver's characters and their interactions will tell you why people don't view it as platonic and see it romantic instead.

I'm going to be specifically discussing IDW and game canon here, as the two are intertwined (with the games up to Forces being canon to the IDW comics).

I did multiple analyses on these two goofballs on an old blog. Espio is NEVER that open. He's only ever opened up to Silver, at least to the extent he did in Future Growth.

It's also worth mentioning how in tune with Silver's emotions Espio is compared to everyone else.

Literally how the hell is Espio the only one who noticed something was off about Silver’s behavior and mood

You'd think with how often Silver and Sonic cross paths Sonic would take notice of Silver's emotional state, I mean, look at his expression in the second panel. Nobody but Espio noticed something was off about Silver. As far as we know, Espio doesn't really spend a ton of time around Silver, and he definitely isn't around him as much as Sonic or Amy.

It's ALSO worth noting that Espilver originated from Sonic Rivals 2. Espio didn't hesitate to help Silver. He will hesitate if he's weary of one of Vector's plans. And even if you just look at how Espio behaved at the end of Sonic Rivals 2, he is never nervous. But explaining what Silver was doing? He just ignores Vector after a certain point.

The reason Future Growth came off as romantic to people is because it's the first time Espio is seen really opening up, and it's to Silver. Not Vector, who (along with Charmy) he's closest to. Silver.

Also, Silver (from my memory) hasn't hugged anyone besides Espio, and Espio would probably stab anyone else who tries to hug him (although to be fair Silver did catch him off guard lol. Still, Espio was messing with a kunai literally right before that and probably could’ve stabbed him if he wanted to).

Even outside of that, with their past interactions, of course it's not gonna be viewed as platonic. He and Espio were good friends and had built up a pretty good relationship in Rivals 2.

Basically, if you're like "why are people viewing this as romantic????" you should go back and look at how they’ve interacted in the past. How Espio acts when Vector asks him about Silver at the end of Sonic Rivals 2 comes off as a parent prying you for information on a crush (and I do think this is exactly what that was given the fact that Espio could’ve literally just explained Silver’s motives and Vector probably would’ve accepted it lol). How they interact prior to Future Growth can come off as romantic or a crush. Hell, this angsty wattpad lookin thing exists.

For context, here’s the full cover that’s from:

They never went on a mission together in the Zombot Arc, which is where that image comes from. However, Silver did work with Whisper. Why is this worth bringing up? Espio worked alone, Cream and Gemerl worked together, Rouge and Metal Sonic were just there, Tails and Amy worked together, and Knuckles stayed on Angel Island to watch the Master Emerald. Not to mention how much the Espio and Silver thing looks like a fucking Wattpad cover compared to the other ones??? Anyway, it’d make more sense for Espio to be the lone one and Whisper to be on the same panel(?) as Silver, but they didn’t do that.

I don’t think any of what has been done with Espio and Silver was done just to show that they’re friends. It genuinely feels like there are subtle hints at something more between these two, even down to the (really subtle??) implication that Silver’s gonna stay in the present and chill with Team Chaotix my explanation for which you can find here).

Without context, yeah, I can completely understand why you might question why people see Future Growth as romantic. But when you look at how they act with each other prior to that, it does start to make sense.

The IDW angsty Wattpad fanfiction cover is weird. At that point in the comics, Espio and Silver hadn’t even interacted much, and since they’d never gone on a mission together as a pair, it doesn’t make sense why they’d be paired off like that.

Espio’s behavior at the end of Sonic Rivals 2 is weird. He never tiptoes around questions that should be easy to answer like that.

Espio opening up to Silver specifically, while not necessarily weird, is quite telling.

I’m not saying Espilver is canon. However I am saying there’s like zero explanation for why they’re always paired together if Blaze isn’t around (in which case Silver is paired with Blaze instead of Espio. I view that as different because I think Blaze views Silver more as a little brother than anything, and they’ve also spent more time together visibly compared to Espio and Silver).

So basically, if you think it’s weird that people view Future Growth as romantic, there are more hints at Espio and Silver liking each other romantically than you think.

Zod Exarion in the novel, my favorite scenes that were left out or not included that much, fun facts and more

Chess chess chess

(Novel chapter: 29)

So the manhwa isn't really telling with Zod's moods throughout the scene, but Desir put him through the gutter with that mach.

Desir thinks a lot about the differences between this Zod and the one from the labyrinth, between their play styles, and how the labyrinth affected him in the long run in small ways. It's also mentioned that the two of them carved out their chess pieces themselves.

Also Zod's pretty upset with Desir, like straight up how dare you suggest your idea worth as much as a sponsorship from the magic tower get out of my sight kind of upset. It's pretty funny actually, especially when Desir shows him just how much his idea is worth, and he straight up cancels all of his meeting that day.

Actually just go read that scene it's not long but it does so SO much to establish these two's relationship for the whole story it's really just amazing.

Fun fact: In universe, there's a book that details all of Zod's accomplishments; it's thicker than most encyclopedias.

Fun fact 2: While in the manhwa he's described as a man in his forties, the novel says that he's at worst 30 which is pretty funny.

Fun fact 3: In universe he has an 'archaic feeling to his word' which I think is pretty cool, like??? Yeah. I can see that.

Who are you really?

(Novel chapter: 84)

So the interrogation scene's also a bit different, Desir is very stressed out while Zod is fucking with him, admitting to not even wanting an answer in the first place, and during that convo Desir describes Zod this way:

Desir only saw Zod acting as the master of the Magic Tower, cold and calculative in all circumstances, and as the Seventh-Circle wizard with an insatiable curiosity in finding the truth of all things.

Which is not really a description that we get in the manhwa, but it definitely puts a lot of things into perspective.

Also, this chapter has a lot of important moments in it regarding some things that will be said later, a few notable mentions:

"My intuition tells me to trust you. And when I gave you all of my power, I decided to believe this groundless intuition."

His intuition as a wise man was telling him that Desir was very reliable.

He would never know the circumstances surrounding Desir but he could see his heart.

Where he admits that he trusts Desir taking the weight of his secret off his chest

"Haha... I'm sorry. But I give you my word. I won't ask about your identity anymore. Everyone has their own secrets that they can't share with anybody. I also have a bunch of secrets that I don't want anybody to know."

Where he reassures him when he sees that Desir isn't handling his little fuckery well

Zod's smile was amazingly warm. It was like the smile of a grandfather looking at his grandson.

And of course this motherfucking sentence which is a gut punch and a half ngl.

So clearly chapter 84 putting down the groundwork for *the scene that the mannwa haven't adopted yet and at this point I'm not sure if they will,* aka: the most painful thing ever

But before that:

The flying ship of death flag

(Novel chapter: 249)

So of course a lot of things happened between these chapters but this is the one that I want to point out because. Well.

So in the manhwa Desir says 'build a flying ship' Zod builds a flying ship and all's well that ends well right? Not really.

You see The Flying ship Valkyrie is not just any random insane idea that Desir came up with but in fact The Ultimate Dream Project of Zod Exarion - the one from the labyrinth, y'know - and isn't that just great?

There's something poetic about Desir making sure Zod can manage to reach his dream, his ultimate goal, even after death. (Something something the student carrying their master's will something something reaching your parent's goals after their passing to feel closer to them etc. etc.)

Oh, it's also a pretty big death flag, but don't worry about that.

Fun fact: this scene emphasizes the fact that Zod wasn't "just" a magician, a lot. "The ship was the ultimate goal he wanted to reach as an engineer", "he lamented that he couldn't spend his life satisfactorily as an engineer"

Fun fact 2: And he whined about it a lot! No, I'm sorry ranted.

I'm gonna just put his here because god dammit I love this man:

In Desir’s previous life, Zod often lamented over the fact that he couldn’t spend his life satisfactorily as an engineer. When the Shadow Labyrinth arose, he was forced to discard his position of Tower Master and bear his title as the lone Seventh-Circle magician.

Desir recalled these scenes of frustration as clearly as if they had happened yesterday. Most often, Zod would rant while they played chess.

The quiet before the storm

(Novel chapter: 275)

So the fact that there is a traitor is revealed and we get this very cute scene:

Realizing that Desir had immediately jumped to the worst situation, and his mind had consumed itself with the task of discovering who, Zod immediately rushed to calm Desir down.

Zod had always been like this, even in Desir’s previous life. He was Desir’s rock, the one who would support him in his times of need. That was why Desir trusted Zod more than anyone else.

Which again alludes to the *surprise* we will be slapped with in the face soon, but really this is just nice.

“I have some good news. Actually, I only dropped by to share this.”

Zod’s eyes changed. The wise eyes, which seemed to encompass everything, were nowhere to be found, and the eyes of an excitable child appeared within a moment.

‘Here we go again.’

As an engineer, he used to show such eyes when he was discussing things that interested him. No matter how much time passed, Zod Exarion was a reliable constant.

And I'm also just putting my favorite quotes here, don't mind me. There's also a point I'm making, and I will get to that when I reach the end.

So this is exciting because we get the first second appearance description for Zod which is

He looked as miserable as the smashed tower.

Glossy black hair moved in the breeze.

So that's funny.

Actually I could start describing this scene in great detail, go over every little thing I wish was in the manhwa, but really, you should go read it because it's a lot. This act kind of starts from 275 and is I think the saddest one in the story.

For instance, Zod admits that he's thinking of the battle in chess terms and that makes him think of Desir, how he apparently lost a mach the first time in decades.

He's thinking a lot about his and Desir's relationship, and we get golden lines like this one:

It was no exaggeration to say that Desir was the only one who could share ideas with Zod throughout all the fields of his expertise, and talk casually with him.

The act also really drives home how Zod is THE BEST OF THE BEST when it comes to magic. He holds his ground with only his own mana to help him against Priscilla and 4 swordsmen, whose defense equals the aurora system!

Fun fact: He lost both an arm and a leg during the fight, while the manhwa only showed the loss of an arm

Fun fact 2: Zod's cane, which was a constant in the novel (read: It wasn't changed every time it appeared) had a first tear magic stone in it that was like a national treasure.

Aaand we reached where the manhwa is right now... kinda

I was going to add another segment and a long, Long rant to the "2nd half" of this post, but I don't want to ruin the kind of positive vibe of it, so I'm going to put that one in another post.

First I will go through the things that made That Scene in the novel work, why I'm disappointed how he manhwa's handling it, predictions on how the whole "Helena thing" will play out and then some final thoughts, so that's coming soon.

Voiceplay Visuals: Oogie Boogie's Song

It's time, y'all.

Oogie Boogie's Song was released on the 19th of October, 2019, and it currently stands at 12.4 million views on Youtube. While that's only roughly a quarter of the views of VP's Moana Medley, it's still very impressive, and it's their second-most-popular video on their channel (since the Moana Medley at least) (it also appears to be their most popular song on Spotify, with over 8 million streams/listens.

If you weren't introduced to Voiceplay from their Moana Medley or some of the more recently popular stuff like Nothing Else Matters and Valhalla Calling, then chances are that this was the way you stumbled across them (it was probably also your first introduction to subharmonics, as was the case for many reactors who watched this video). I found the video roughly a week after its release, and posted on my Discord about it, saying "Do you wanna hear some of the lowest goddamn notes you've ever heard? Well then, watch this." It did not take long at all for me to fall in love with Geoff, lemme tell you.

But anyway, enough backstory and whatnot, time for the actual video!

I quietly wonder if the original intention was to have the die stay in his beard after it's thrown at him, and if so, how long did it take to get right?

"Sandy Claws" btw is played by "Pasquale Palazzolo", Geoff's brother-in-law I believe? (I think I heard somewhere that Eli does the voice for him though)

What an entrance honestly

Layne is Zero, who in the movie is Jack's pet ghost-dog, but here he's decided to hang out with Oogie Boogie apparently!

Right, so I'm guessing that Eli is Lock, based on the red outfit, J is Barrel (based on the skeleton shirt), leaving Earl as Shock (and he's got kinda similar blue eye-makeup). Eli and J reprise their roles in Voiceplay's cover of Kidnap The Sandy Claws the following year

Brilliant acting job by Mr Palazzolo, 10/10, no notes 👍

Cool glowy mouth/lips thing!

Did "Shock" just crack/break "Barrel's" neck? 😅

"What are you going to do?" "I'm gonna do the best I can! Hit it!"

But seriously, 10/10 costuming (also shoutout to Voiceplay for getting it right and not making Oogie Boogie's actual regular appearance be green (as he is so often depicted - it's just due to the lighting in some scenes! He's not actually green!). And I'm not sure whether it's the makeup or his acting or both, but it's almost in a way sort of hard for me to recognize Geoff here? That's not the right phrasing - obviously I know it's him, but he just feels/looks so different to how he usually does. Heck, even in the Little Mermaid Medley it feels more like him. That's not a criticism either way though! He did such a good job here, as did everyone involved in making this video!

Those were definitely not rolled naturally. If anything, they were spun on their axis into frame, very lightly 😝

I haven't said a lot about them but Eli, Earl, and J all also did a brilliant job of going full-character with their portrayals of Lock, Shock, and Barrel!

Not here to focus on the song itself, but if you were watching this for the first time and weren't quite sure where that insanely-low rumbling was coming from at the end, Geoff's body language almost definitely answers that question for you.

Seriously the way he physically seems to emit that E1 subharmonic really adds to the seemingly inhumanness of it, and I love it. What a performance!

(Also I cannot for the life of me tell whether Geoff added some stuff to his hair like hair chalk for this video to make it lighter or whether the lighting is just making it seem that way itself)

Final note: Did they have some sort of mechanism or a string or something like that to ensure Pasquale/"Sandy" didn't fall over in that chair? Because it tips backwards twice, deliberately, but not all the way either time.

So that's Oogie Boogie's Song: the tip of the freaking iceberg when it comes to the productions of "the theatre kids of acapella", and I am so glad I became a fan of Voiceplay thanks to this video.

The characters in question weren't even fully human, come on now.

I have been moderating my comments ever since, because I'm just not willing to give the time of day to idiots like that.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Funnily enough I wasn't big on smut for a really long time and though I felt that some stories needed it, I always just wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible (I also used to skim sex scenes when I was reading) because I just didn't really find them interesting... that kinda changed when I found some truly exquisite fics and realised that smut can be written just engagingly as the rest of the story and now I include explicit smut in most of the stuff I write. I just really enjoy getting into that part of the characters' minds and finding different scenarios and new nasty things for them to do 😊

What kind? Hmm. Not sure, I like to sprinkle in some sub/dom undertones and a little bit of a praisekink or edging even for the most vanilla stuff. I wouldn't say my stuff is that kinky?? Though I did write watersports, public settings and some degradation too, but who even knows what's considered kinky nowadays...

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I don't write crossovers, I don't even read them... it's just not for me, I guess.

It was the way I used to RP in high school... I'd write a paragraph and then my roommate would write the next and we'd pass the notebook back and forth until we finished... it was mostly smut though and I have no idea if I could actually co-write something publishable 💔

I have a few forever fandoms and forever ships... but I gotta say buddie is the most fun I ever had in fandom so far, so I think they deserve the title (hah)

fuck, so many 😭 but I have a long steddie fic (26k already written and it's about halfway done) that I regret not finishing, because it was the ultimate angst and character study and I just... yeah, it would've been great, but maybe I get into the mood when season 5 comes out (or it'll just make me wanna never touch the fandom ever again, who knows)

16. What are your writing strengths?

Not sure what counts as strength, but I love learning the speech patterns of the characters I'm writing for and I guess I've gotten kind of alright at it??

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Writing fluff is definitely something that doesn't come easy for me

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Worth it if it makes sense in context and you can make sure that you translate correctly (or realistically incorrectly, if that's what you're going for). Overusing another language just to show that you can is not a good reading experience though, especially if you only put the translation in the end notes.

Also, making a character that rarely ever speaks that language speak it extensively without a good reason can take me out of the story real fucking quick... generally just use it when it makes sense and you can make sure that you're not butchering it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I think the first one I ever posted online was a RyoDa fic (jpop rpf, respectively) and the first fandom I posted for on ao3 was Stranger Things

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Hmmmm. It kinda changes as I move along. I always felt like Hunger at last was pretty under-appreciated compared to my other witcher fics, but It might walk like a duck was something I wrote in about 2 days because it came to me so smoothly and I really enjoyed writing it... The Companion is a big favourite for me because I think it was a pretty unique idea to work with... also it's not even posted yet but the mudslide fic already has such a special place in my heart, plus it has my favourite confession scene I've ever written so...

Not only are Zanther and Coach's memories fucked, but we checked the yearbook in the library from last year and Don Graves and Suma Trun BOTH were missing!! But not like they never existed, no, Sersh said the book had been tampered with using illusion or, like, transmutation magic? Whatever that means. Ugh. Even more weirdly, Roderick C was in the book and still on campus even though he was one of the three students that we met outside the manor. He didn't seem to remember being at the manor, but 🤷‍♀️

Everyone thinks the cheer squad might be behind this mysterious bs, but at least we don't make our members perform blood magic and sign, like, soul-binding pacts in some weird dark ritual like the business club apparently does 🙄 And that's not even on our radar of stuff to look into, to like give an idea of how weird shit is right now.

I'm way more concerned abt Zanther tbh. Sersh also scanned him for magic and he's been enchanted. She kept talking about a possible modify memory spell. Which would explain a lot, but I'm still sooooo confused by all of this 😵‍💫 We want to try and find the deck of many things again if we can, since its whereabouts might, like, give us some kinda clue. idfk.

At least the dinner with Zanther & everyone went ok. I wish Mire remembered him, they were so cute when they were flustered (lol), but maybe it's for the best bc he's being kind of a downer rn. We keep trying to tell him it's not his fault (minus Thad, ofc, but he's an asshole anyways) but ig it makes sense if he rlly thinks Mire disappeared bc of something he did. Still, what a mood-killer after I tried so hard to get everyone together for a nice dinner with no ulterior motives whatsoever!! He was nice enough to pay tho <3

Oh, ohhh, and I hard-launched Javanesh to the group, which turned out to be a fucking mistake. Not bc of anything he did, ofc- he was rlly sweet and even asked me out on another date to go to the Seelie Market!! but my party decided to invite themselves along to the outing too. Thad was just being a little bitch abt me spilling his drink on him earlier (he deserved it i prommie), but now they're alllll gonna be there. Which, like, whatever. It is an open event, it's not like I'm gonna fucking gatekeep a public night market. At least Willow seemed super excited about it (is excited the right word? She kept staring at the poster, so I guess so?) so I'm glad she's happy! We're just gonna have to find a way to sneak away from the others for a bit, is all 😘

Sorry about the late reply haha, but I'm absolutely thrilled to hear you enjoyed reading my last ask!

About RGGJo (I've been been calling him a variant of that for ages too, but if I ever slip up and call him Jou, it's out of habit; I like to differentiate them by RGGO and 7's different official romanizations lol), I'd actually say it's not at all hyperbolic to describe him as relaxed. If you ever have a moment, I think going through his voice lines is one of the best ways to get acquainted with his character in a short time! (Article might be a little rough, I basically speedran it all in a day just to show you lol; also a lot of them are uh........ let's say borderline flirtatious)

That said, it is much less apparent before the timeskip. To go on a bit (or a lot) of a tangent, I think that kind of relates to something I've noticed about their relationship with authority. Which is to say, it feels like they have a tendency to walk on eggshells with regard to authority figures. I think that might be the single most consistent thing between their characterizations.

You do see that directly with Arakawa, of course. It's something established really early on for both of them. You can tell right away from Jo's sheepish look when Arakawa walks in on the yubitsume fiasco or RGGJo freezing up when Arakawa walks in on the equivalent scene that he's someone they genuinely seek approval from as an authority figure. And, y'know, 7 has that micro-interaction with Arakawa only needing to put a hand on Jo's shoulder to stop him, whereas RGGO has Mitsu directly stating that the only person who's able to calm him down when he's on a rampage is Arakawa. Honorable mention to the substory where Ichi stops RGGJo from killing some guy by saying it'd put Arakawa in a bad mood.

But I think the clearest example sort-of-outside of Arakawa, one that's more insightful with regard to authority in general (since you could say of course he respects Arakawa specifically), is actually from Ryuji's RGGO story. There was a fair amount of confusion, right, because it's canon to the console timeline, but they hadn't implemented the Arakawa Family's 7 sprites, and they used the RGGO ones. So the funny thing is, I could tell right away that everyone was supposed to be their 7 selves based on characterization

I did take the time to look over all of RGGJo's voice lines from the link you provided oh my god you weren't kidding about making quick edits i checked the log date and you were making changes just a few hours ago, bless you and your work fr and yeah no, his voice lines definitely give off a different feel from Y7Jo (and definitely no joke about the more 'flirtatious' lines- evidently as someone who's mostly perceived Y7Jo it's jarring to say the least. Not that I'm complaining, it's incredibly interesting to see the difference)! It's almost funny to me how different their personalities seem, I wonder what made RGG decide to conceal his more 'playful' personality..

In regards to his relationship with authority- or I guess I want to talk more specifically about with Arakawa- the backstory each Jo has offers different avenues for explanation as to why he's so readily obedient.

I have to make a disclaimer right now and say I'm not totally caught up on Ichi's RGGO story (I stopped just after their fight on the rooftop), so maybe more background to Jo is given. Nevertheless, for RGGJo, his reasons for being obedient aren't exactly clear aside from respecting Arakawa's influence/power (as noted by his irezumi, I'm pretty sure). On that note though, I haven't seen the bit from Ryuji's story- something I'm definitely going to look into once I get some time this week (and it's neat that the Jo's are distinct enough from each other that you can discern which iteration it's supposed to be despite the sprite used: I'm excited to see that for myself!).

Inversely, the context that Arakawa has been taking care of Jo's son offers a more concrete form of an explanation as to why he's compliant. It's not bad to assume I think that Jo genuinely respects Arakawa's authority, but it's that added context that adds an extra layer to his behavior.

I'm glad my venting was able to help 😭 i don't remember what my last update on the situation was since tumblr's search system is hella broken but essentially what ended up happening was after I sent my giant text message calling them out for their behaviour, they basically went MIA from the house and continued avoiding me like the plague. they drifted to a different friend group (who I am also friends with) and proceeded to treat them the exact same way they treated me. they then got dropped by these friends, and then during the summer met a random 28 year old at pride and went on a roadtrip with them and then never came back. and also quit their job as the head manager of my friend's work and left the place in shambles (literally got paid for the entire summer to set up this program and then did not do anything to set it up to the point where it literally could not open part of the first semester lol).

they also blocked everyone on everything including our landlord but still pays rent every month and all their shit is still at our house. over christmas break they came back and grabbed a lot of their stuff but hid from everyone in the house (they arrived very early in the morning and only left once everyone was not in the house lol, the only reason we know they were there is cause their room was rearranged and one of the housemates heard them whispering to someone over the phone through the vents...) also them arriving super early means they must've made their parents drive them at like. 3-4am 😭 just so they could avoid running into us 😭 like bro

but tbh all of this is very best case scenario for me because I am besties with everyone they treated terribly and we are doing our grad trip together... tbh the entire fiasco was a bonding experience for everyone and I genuinely love my friend group

as for the housemate... honestly I feel bad for them because they are clearly not well.. at this point it's been long enough that I can get over my initial feelings of righteous anger and hurt and see that they are just very mentally ill. apparently they are taking a year long mental health break from school and I fully agree with that decision because damn girl wtf. does not excuse the behaviour or make up for the hurt they caused but I am very grateful they were able to recognize they were not okay when they did...

when I'm in a joking mood I like to tell people I drove them out of town with one text message... when I'm in a serious mood I tell people that our conflict was a catalyst but they were already on a downwards spiral and if I were not the one who triggered their breakdown something else would have.

ultimately I am glad I called them out and defended my people and my peace. I hope they are able to find that for themselves one day too :)

Hello hello 👋🏽 I have something to say but imma keep it under the cut.

Good morning tumblr fam, I don't know if I can keep the promise (as usual lol) but hopefully I will be more active since I already started summer break and I have no vacations plans yet whatsoever so I'll be home and probably go to the beach every once and awhile since it's near, but mostly I'll be home, I can't afford to go anywhere more than a couple days because I can't miss my weekly therapy sessions.

Anyways, I was playing with the settings on desktop yesterday and apparently accidentally reactivated the anonymous 🤣 I didn't realise until I got a few ✨️interesting✨️ asks, and I deactivated it again because I wasn't in the mood last night.

However when I was deleting them, I accidentally deleted the remaining 4 or 5 au requests I still have in my inbox to not forget them, so, I'm so sorry, I don't even remember what they were about, which makes me feel sad, so if I didn't make your request, probably it was deleted! I should be more careful next time and hopefully I'll be able to make everyone's requests and make everyone happy.

For that I decided to reactivate the anonymous again, just in case someone has an au request or idea or hc or anything at all.

Something that has been messing me up lately is that everyone in the house, except for my stepdad, will make it obvious whether they're being playful or being serious, since I have a hard time reading people a lot. Earlier, I thought my stepdad was being playful, and therefore I acted playful since I believed he was in a good mood. I dont understand why I'm completely incapable of telling the difference. The tone in his voice is always the same in both regards. So since I was in a good mood, I wanted to play around with him since I thought he was too. I end up getting yelled at, and apparently my stepdad texted my mom about me turning the fucking Alexa off, and then she got mad at me. So I ended up getting mad at her in return, but not to the point where I'll get in more trouble. Just kinda vented to her that I cannot fucking tell when hes joking. I've told her this so many times before and she still doesnt get it. I think he has mood swings or something because one minute hes actually happy, then the next hes ignoring me, my sister, my mom, or all three of us. I dont like that hes like this because it makes me nervous that if I say or do something that he thinks is wrong or rude, then I get yelled at. I cant even vent to him without him turning the blame on me and making me feel like a garbage person so I just end up locking myself in my room and crying, angry at myself and convinced that everything I do is wrong.

Then of course theres the fact that I cannot leave my bed unattended, because if I'm not there, then the cats just decide to piss on it for whatever reason. I've asked my mom if we can get or do something that'll get them to stop doing that, but low and behold we cannot afford jack shit. Then she gets mad at me for going through the laundry detergent. Uh. I'd rather not sleep on a piss stained bed.

And I havent eaten at all today, because we cant afford takeout right now, and for some dumbass reason, my mom and stepdad wont go to the fucking store and get us something to at least cook while they're at work. Today I did find some rice though. Just my luck though because once it was done, I ended up tripping and spilling the entire bowl on the floor. So. Yeah.

I just want to go to my grandma's house because being under this roof is driving me fucking nuts. My grandma moved away a while ago so now I cant just text her and ask her if she can get me out of this goddamn house.

It's weird that my mom wonders why I'm so impatient about turning 18. As soon as I'm able to, I'm moving out of here, because if I stay here any longer than that, I'm going to loose my shit

ooo could you elaborate on lalos contradictory traits?

oh certainly! part of what i meant was just, when writing fic, it's easy to fall into characterization traps like character A is outgoing and loud and impulsive! and you go too far in that direction and flatten them out, and basically I think Lalo is a very BALANCED character which is a better description than contradictory. But anyway, elaboration -- this got insanely long and i'm embarrassed so UNDER THE CUT

One, his outward extrovert-ism vs. the fact that he's pretty much a loner without many (any?) strong/close relationships. he acts all personable with everyone at the cartel pool party and especially Eladio but is clearly very insecure about his standing with Eladio (the extravagant gift, nervousness about how Nacho will come across) -- and then once he's betrayed he goes right to "FUCK ELADIO!" loll. It took him a while to warm up to Nacho and even once he did he still treated him more like a chauffeur than a friend... Hector is his closest relationship, and, well. that's pretty bleak. enough said.

+ as a sub-point, his loudness/talkativeness vs. silence, which is something i consciously remind myself of when writing him in fic. let him have moments of reticence and silence, and not always be talking because.. that's how he is in the show. Like his most famous scene is him mostly not saying anything. He's generally pretty moody and I like that these "contradictory" traits basically just depend on his mood, i think that's good character writing.

Two, impulsiveness vs. discipline. Moments of impulsiveness mostly arising from frustration, like when he road-rages the random guy in the parking lot, when he kills TravelWire Fred, arguably Howard, I guess we'll see how that plays out lol. But he's also able to exhibit incredible patience, and spend 4 days in a sewer watching a laundromat through binoculars and he only went slightly insane. and that time it was personal so imo the original all-day chicken farm stakeout is more impressive. he just did that on a whim, basically. wouldnt you kill for that level of focus and follow-through...

Three, and I've talked about this before, IS LALO ACTUALLY CHARMING OR IS HE JUST HOT AND LOUD?! does he actually CHARM people?! in most of his scenes he's interacting with people who already know who he is and therefore 1) are afraid of him and he enjoys making them squirm by being "nice" with a menacing undertone but everyone in the situation knows what's actually going on and it's not "charming," it's basically torture which is, to be clear, VERY hot and funny of him (this is most clearly evident in every jimmy scene), 2) if they're not AFRAID of him, then they're sick of his shit (gus, bolsa, nacho) and Lalo knows this, so he's also not really trying to CHARM them he's just being annoying on purpose, for sport. when he's interacting with people who don't know who he is, there are a couple instances of people finding him a little off-putting and possibly dangerous (fred travelwire got a bad vibe immediately LOL good instincts, also the one staff person at casa tranquila who apparently saw the evil depths of his eyes and got spooked), so i think the only actual instances of him CHARMING people are: Don Eladio*, Margarethe**, and some of the people from his hacienda (but this is sort of complicated since he also gives them MONEY/dental care.. so.) Anyway, we see people being weirded out by/scared of Lalo far more than we see them being charmed by him so I rest my case: Lalo is not ACTUALLY charming, he's just hot and loud.

*Eladio footnote: I think Eladio likes Lalo well enough but at the end of the day it's about money so it doesn't really matter how cute and funny Lalo is :/ I hope Eladio orders/signs off on Lalo's death, btw, this is my top choice ending for him.

**Margarethe footnote: I like to think Lalo overestimated his own ability to charm in this scene. He clearly was expecting to be invited in and WASN'T... he's so used to getting what he wants because everyone is afraid of him/being paid by him that he gets that confused with actual charisma. which he does not possess :/

ANYWAY, yeah, Lalo. he's so sexy and pathetic and weird and funny and off-putting and scary, everybody likes him but nobody loves him, he's the specialest guy in the world to me 🥰
