We’re doing intros now? Sick
Hi! I’m peaches or just peach! I moved to tumblr from Twitter like..a year ago?
I main Tubbo, and have been following him since uhhh 2020? I got into the qsmp when he joined! I’m also a massive soulfire supporter and frubbo shipper (though I am a multishipper, frubbo just has my heart)
I like to post just whatever’s comes to mind, drabbles, head canons, analyses, and occasionally fics and fanart, and rarely, veryyy rarely, some original art
(I don’t know how to pace myself so fics and fanart are slowly becoming rare on my account 🥲)
I’m in highschool..unfortunately, and prefer not to go into much else about personal stuff aside from that lmaooo
Some fanart I’ve done!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well! That’s me! I’m not sure what else to post sooo! Woo!

Since another twitter and apparently another reddit migration is coming I wanna remind y’all of some things
REBLOG EVERYTHING. the algorithm is broken and will NOT share posts if you just like them. Reblog them if u like them it helps sososososo much
Tags are very important for multiple reasons. Because we always reblog things make sure to make tags for specific types of posts so ppl can just go down that tag to find your content. If ur doing stuff like comments then put #[name]’s talks or something. Same thing goes for art
Adding onto that. Most content creators have specific tags for their content and usually have a masterpost with those tags you can go to. Please don’t try to scroll through seas of posts to find the content you need, just use the tags
The block button if your best friend and you should use it all the time no one wants to see u argue
DECORATE YOUR ACCOUNT. LIKE IMMEDIATELY. BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING. We have a bot problem and you will be blocked if you go around without something identifiable on your account. U could literally just change your pfp and banner

gentle reminder because it’s almost election time in the united states: voting blue is not the end all be all solution to all american issues at home or abroad. a lot of people (including me) voted for a blue president (biden) the last time there was a presidential election and generally vote blue whenever there are “minor” elections because girl have you watched the news lately??? obviously vote blue … but hey let’s not forget that biden has
- pretty much done nothing to resolve student loan debt (or general american debt) issues
- not done anything significant regarding climate change (it’s oct. 2023 when im typing this if im wrong, correct me please)
- not made any effort to, idk, return abortion laws to all americans (“he can only do so much there’s rules” i don’t fucking care, thanks)
- pledged his support to the ongoing ethnic cleansing and genocide of palestine. continues to pledge his support to israel as of october 26 2023. is on twitter showing his ass the same way trump does. directly giving a thumbs up to the murder of thousands of thousands of people. doesn’t care that he is using american tax dollars to fund child murder and has in fact doubled down on his pov since this started. doesn’t care in generally apparently i can’t believe i voted for him or believed for a second that things would get better and he would be the one to make it happen.
can we maybe get up and recognize that voting blue is not (and probably has not been for a while if ever) what we and others have prophesied it to be?????? even on this shithole (affectionate) where i generally see some of the best internet etiquette about some of the most difficult topics of our lifetimes, people are saying vote blue no elaboration. just a few weeks ago i reblogged something about voting blue. “it’s better than voting red” “it’s the lesser of two evils” “it’s the best option” are you sure about that. why are two colors as far as we can get with conversations about laws and rights and freedoms that concern the lives of millions of fucking people that we’ve never even met. do we not recall that this country was built on black and indigenous slave labor, white supremacy, and indigenous genocide forced migration and ethnic cleansing, all for some “manifest destiny” bullshit because some dumbass was looking for another land, people, and culture to colonize (asia) and found north america by accident??????????? and that this legacy continues to perpetuate american politics regardless of what a candidates political colors are????????
i don’t know how much more of this shit we need to live through before we realize dividing the country by colors (red and blue) and “perceived values” (conservative and liberal) and leaving the conversation at the classic us vs. them is. fucking. stupid. if we can’t understand now after everything biden has done and will probably continue to do that voting blue is not going to save us, i don’t know what will make us understand. i’m twenty-two, black, queer, etc. and im tired of this fucking bullshit. i don’t know how our parents lived through this. i don’t know how anyone lives through this. but us vs. them is what got us into this, and i doubt it can get us out of it.
so when you go vote, please do your research first. i think i’d rather eat rocks or get thanos snapped than vote red, but like i just said, defaulting is part of the fucking issue, so read a thing or two before you pick your person, please. and take care of yourself and your mind or else (there are no consequences i just know we can’t fight the good fight if we all go insane so pls take care out there)(get a little treat do something silly skip responsibility cuddle something take a nap etc.)
and read about how you can support palestine (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sLUKG5HwKtFZZXaPOT3venMDq9PnJ_NM5dFzAhTRt_Q/edit#heading=h.hg4tp0gpsmmu) and please do something to express your support as well. inform, act, and pass it on.

Time to talk about things I'm excited about again
youtube
New Fate/Samurai Remnant trailer! it's only in Japanese for now, and it was quickly privated from the original uploader
HOWEVER, there's still a lot of cool things to look at here.
First of all, i'll be honest, I saw this originally thanks to a twitter user that archived it and looked at the various stuff you can get with it, so a lot of my "official" info that isn't visually made clear in the trailer will be regurgitated from what they've said. here's the thread and another video (just in case this one gets taken down)
Okay, so time for a deep dive under the cut:
first off
Musashi (which that IS Musashi and this is not a Scathatch=Skadi or similar situation) is apparently a Berserker
The MC is most likely Iori- there's a few reasons why this is significant, both in terms of actual history (which plays a role for Fate, obviously) and Fate lore in general
A. Historical relevancy: Iori is one of the children that IRL Miyamoto Musashi bought/adopted from his original parents, and taught them his signature sword style.
B. Lore relevancy: The Musashi we're familiar with in Fate is from another world where she's female- at least in terms of Fate/Grand Order lore. Musashi sort of gets rejected by reality/gets tossed in and out of alternate dimensions here and there, and other than official story canon, she does play a fun and significant role in Summer 4. Here she appears in the Summer Singularity of Las Vegas as a Berserker and also keeps trying (and failing) to convince the group she is actually Iori. It's a fun story but hard to argue as canon due to the nature of event singularities and especially summer ones
3. I'm very sure you can tell if you look closely, but the black haired servant with the white shirt is definitely a Saber face- I think this one actually has Artoria's VA. I posted previously after the last trailer, but they have Artoria's hairstyle and the little ahoge that's pretty much signature to Saber Faces (sans Alters). To me they seem of Chinese origin judging by dress and swords, and it also seems like they have some water ability? Which is strange but cool. If anyone's smart enough to try and figure that one out, go for it. I'd personally look through old Chinese folktales or rulers that have some association to water, or maybe was a man suspected of being a woman/vice versa (which is why Artoria is a woman instead of a man). Maybe a swordsman that traveled or migrated to Japan, too.
4. This is DEFINITELY a Holy Grail War, it's the only way someone like Jalter could show up like this- However the fact that she's even here to begin with must mean there's something wonky going on, since her existence in FGO is pretty much only because of Chaldea's interference. It could also just be a separate instance of fuckery going on, especially considering we have ANOTHER Avenger class here- Angry Mango himself (i can't remember how to spell the name). Maybe another tainted grail?
5. Speaking of Angra, he looks different- like he's not using Shiro as a base body anymore. He has face stubble- Kiritsugu, maybe? It wouldn't be the first time Kiritsugu and Shiro have had similar Servant counterparts. It could also be another of Musashi's kids imo.
6. Speaking of Shiro, or more specifically Fate/Stay Night
Tumblr media
This place looks familiar, almost like the shrine where Saber and Assassin fought each other in FSN, aka the shrine Caster was holding out in. Now this might be a stretch, but what if this is Fuyuki from the past? If this is Iori's time, this would be around the 1600s, roughly 400 years prior to Stay Night. The fact that the new Saber Face is also here seems rather significant imo
7. The extra Servants look cool- I'm betting the big guy with the green is maybe another Hercules form or possibly Samson, which would be a first for Fate I think. He does have long hair, anyway.
8. The music used is similar to the Shimousa fighting music from FGO's Shimousa arc
Anyway, the early September release date for Japan is pretty awesome. I doubt it'll release that early for us, and in fact that may be why they retracted the video? unclear. Personally i hope it comes out later so i can actually save and buy it instead of passing it up for a wedding lol
I can't wait for it, it looks fun

Twitter has so quickly turned to a bigger pile of crap. And yet, people are still resistant to leave.
On one hand, I can understand the whole, "don't want to lose the huge following," but it's not like you have to deactivate once you go on a different platform. Just direct people to the new one you're going on and just take the attrition.
Twitter has NO:
support
security -> it's actually a HUGE security risk right now
structure
development team
content moderation
privacy -> apparently devs have a god mode where they can actually sign in AS you and do whatever they want
I'm sure i'm still missing a handful of bullet points, but the above should be enough.
I'm really curious what will make people leave that site. Because even engagement has degraded. And that's on purpose. If you want more views/hits, you need to pay the $8/month. I read an article on Wired (i think it was Wired) that was saying that the numbers you see on your post aren't even real. It's faked to make you believe a lot of people are engaging with you. I'm looking at some old tweets traffic and each one has "Something went wrong" on them.
Can you guys reblog and recommend to your friends alternatives to the bird site? Here's a handful of my opinions here about sites that people have gravitated to:
Mastodon - THIS is honestly the best TWITTER alternative. It's content moderated by a human TEAM. Like System Admins literally have a team. They comply with international laws, which Twitter is currently NOT doing. They are NOT centralized and if you sign up to be on one instance and realize it's not for you, you can MIGRATE to another one whilst carrying your followers over, because it's part of the fediverse.
Instagram - A lot of artists gravitate to this platform. I've heard that it is work to fight the algorithm unless you already have a massive following. Wouldn't want to start from scratch here - again, from what I've heard.
Tumblr - Tumblr is so friggin hard to describe. It's an absolute place to goof off, but will have these epiphany type posts or even stuff you learn about. It's absolutely a place where you learn new things that's too unbelievable to take as truth, then you go look it up and there it is... science. Tumblr has a ton of catradora content and that's generally why I'm here. It's a fandom site, it's a shitpost site (let's be honest, it's mostly a shitpost site), but it HAS this serious side to it. Tumblr is the annoying friend you hang out with because while they can be fucking bat shit crazy sometimes, they'll actually sit down and have a real talk with you if you need it.
facebook - pfffffffffff you kidding? facebook is your racist alcoholic-by-choice abusive uncle. FUCK THAT GUY
Hive - an absolute flop of an alternative. It's essentially in the same state as Twitter is in right now regarding, privacy, support, and security.
BlueSky - for those unfamiliar, this is Jack Dorsey's (original creator of twitter) next "big thing". Thing is, Jack has lost the trust of his original audience. I know I certainly don't want to touch this site/app. The big idea is that he's creating the social media as a protocol which can be built upon from third party companies. But you wanna know who already did that? Mastodon!
You know, mastodon is new, so it still has some issues to iron out, but it's in SUCH a better state than what original twitter guy can do. It's open source and ad free. Which means you actually have privacy instead of your data getting sold left and right.
ANYWAY - Long post - woops - hopefully you can help me convince people to leave the trash site. There's still a small handful of catradorians left that I follow closely that's "keeping" me there.

Expanding Twitter’s Character Limit. Again.
The point of Twitter was its brevity. The need to conform to SMS standards was why it was limited to 140 characters with 20 set aside for the username. Five years ago they raised it to 280 long after it no longer needed to match SMS and now they apparently want to raise it again to 4,000.
Some time after Twitter allowed people post up to 280 characters they said the majority of tweets don’t reach the limit but they never said how popular threads were and how long was the average thread. Twitter has always been more suited for story tellers so it makes sense to let people write longer posts.
Twitter’s reach and discoverability was a major selling point to bloggers and journalists to share their thought streams and link to their work. It’s why they were among the early adopters of Twitter alongside the startup crowd.
Letting people post long tweets is basically coopting the blogging experience, essentially telling people that they can just post everything there, not bothering with links. Most people don’t blog anymore so that’s moot but people do share stories and they make long Twitter threads, which means threads are going to go away.
Twitter’s plan to release Notes (Twitter Write) was in early stages before the takeover and it was a full blogging experience with embedded images, captions, and titles but they were going to be separate from the regular tweets, a lot like Instagram’s Guide, which was likely inspired by Twitter Moments. Curious how they’re going to roll it out now after the people who worked on it are no longer around.
It would be relatively easy to just expand the character limit but it’s also lazy. Turning Twitter into a full blown story telling or blogging platform would make more sense and it may serve to head off the migration to other platforms like Tumblr or Mastodon (face it, Google’s Blogger just isn’t a thing anymore) but that’s only looking at it from a product perspective.
The return and increase of right wing political radicals on Twitter is a major turn off for many people and many have jumped over to other platforms. However there are crowds that are not affected directly by these groups, can’t afford to switch platforms for whatever reason, or simply chose to stay. They may still stick around, oblivious or dismissive to what’s happening, and most likely be taking advantage of the new features instead of jumping to another platform.
Change is challenging and it’s not just about features or environment. Leaving your playground or asking people to move to a new one is not easy. The push factors need to be stronger than the pull factors and if people don’t feel the need to move, they won’t, no matter how much you try to convince them. Letting people write even longer tweets could be a reason for people to stay.

The Whole Truth
If you count the early online portals like Prodigy and CompuServe as being proto-social media networks, then it is safe to say that we have witnessed two complete generations grow up in the social era. The rest of us had to adapt, but for the most part we’ve adapted well.
While there have been many social media sites come, go, and stay, there has never been one backed by a former US President. Until today. It took a while from initial announcements to taking off the wraps, but you can now download the Truth Social app in Apple’s App Store.
And you can bet that Donald Trump is smiling down there in Mar-A-Lago.
Tumblr media
We must assume there will be an Android version coming soon as well. But don’t get your hopes up too high just yet, as the app is only allowing people to sign up and then wait for a full roll-out. Apparently there have been a few posts in a private beta test, but that’s it.
Truth Social comes in the aftermath of the President being banished from several social media sites, and is built in the style of Twitter. This time, though, posts are accorded the rather presumptuous title of “Truths,” while sharing them makes them “Retruths.” I suppose you could say that the earth is flat, and it would instantaneously be elevated from tin-foil-hat balderdash to exalted unchecked fact.
I think my parents called that the “Because I Said So” rule.
Now before you slip on all of my sarcasm, please note that, while I do not wish to deny anyone--even a former President--from launching a new social media site, I have plenty of reservations about this one. It was founded in the ashes of a contentious lost election, one that Trump’s acolytes are as likely to accept as JFK assassination conspiracy theorists would be to acknowledge Lee Harvey Oswald as the lone gunman. Not happening.
Which means that the target audience for this site is those most staunch supporters of President Trump, those who deny the findings of numerous election fraud investigations, as well as those disenfranchised with the way they see other social media sites evolving.
And never mind that there are already several right-leaning social media sites, to which many have already migrated. These include Parler, MeWe, Gettr, and Rumble. How Truth Social hopes to convince even more migration to occur is yet to be determined, because regardless of your political stripe, it is hard to attend to many social platforms at once.
But from a marketing perspective, I think these are troubled waters. It’s one thing for there to be dating sites targeting young people, older people, people of color, LGBTQ, and even farmers, but it is quite another to have politics as your primary basis on a social media site. I have said it many times: Companies are wise to leave politics out of their marketing game plan. Unless, of course, you’re selling guns and oil, which would probably be a good fit here.
Then again, with President Trump’s backing, maybe they won’t need too much advertising support, and users can go about doing the things they feel hindered from doing elsewhere. That then produces an echo chamber, a choir-preaching-to-the-choir scenario that may feel good, but in the end produces nothing.
Lest you think I am being partisan, rest assured I would be equally dismissive if any current or previous President--Biden, Obama, Bush, Clinton--were to back a new site. We--and I mean all of us--need to be figuring out how we can reach across aisles and vast gulfs to figure out how we’re going to push this experiment called America a little farther down the road.
Because the way I see it, each time someone takes another little dig at a person or ideology, it just makes the wound bigger. It’s never going to heal at this rate. And part of me is wishing that Prodigy and CompuServe never existed in the first place. Maybe things would not have evolved so terribly.

It's apparently migration day today for the Twitter folks. I have reblog some post regarding Tumblr etiquettes and about how dsmp fandom work here.
But addition to that, learn to use tone tags. We may jokes a lot here but tone tags are appreciated! Some of us can't read tones that well.
If you see a post you don't like or disagree with, don't start a whole drama about it. Reblog it with polite message on why you disagree and do it only if the op is open for discussion; don't start insulting or shit. Or just block them. Easy right?
We have ask and submit post here, if you don't want anything to do with both of them just turn them off or say that you accept no ask and post submission. Don't just ignore them.
We don't trend specific things here. If it's about something related about dsmp, then dsmp is tag that'll be trending. Don't try making a specific trending.
Tumblr is different than Twitter. We're not really that up to date on what's happening on the fandom in general. If someone ask you what happens, please explain to them what's going on. They can be genuine clueless on the matter.
Liking or reblogging stuff won't make contents that you like appear in your dashboard. If you want to see them on your dashboard, follow the tags or other bloggers to see more of them.
Most of us mutuals don't know each other personally! Like seriously some of us don't even talk or never interact with each other (idk if that's the same with Twitter) you don't need to worry if someone you follow, follow you back or interact with you. As long as they're not a creep, they're just fellow fans who's trying to befriend one another.
I think that's all from me. Hope y'all enjoy your stay here. Twitter can be exhausting. I understand you.

Check In Tag!
Tagged by : @parkandblues (thanks, hun  🦋)
1. Why did you choose your url?
“lokisasylum”... I think i’ve explained this a lot, but “Loki” is a nickname I was given since my school days because I was a hardcore trickster & would get away with anything and everything. I also recall being VERY persuasive when caught until I got off the hook. While “Asylum” comes from an album by Disturbed (one of the bests I own).
2. Any sideblogs? If you have them name them and why you have them?
Yep, @arsenicbutterfly which is like an aesthethic/anime/cyberpunk/steampunk/grunge blog, and I also have @lokirasengan-fc which I originally created with the intention of moving all my fanart/artwork (also promote my Society6 & Redbubble shops) to in order to separate my main blog for BTS news/post and that one for artwork but none of my mutuals really followed me on it so its basically a dead blog >_>
3. How long have you’ve been on tumblr?
I think since 2010 which is the same year the (Disturbed) “Asylum” album came out.
4. Do you have a queue tag?
I don’t know, never really thought about it.
5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?
Hmm... I remember 2009-2010 to be a very chaotic years.
- the Death Note fandom went up in flames due to the MILLIONS of cases of cyber bullying (some ending in s**cide). I remember being part of this RP group within the fandom that I ended up quitting when I got admitted into Graduate School and because 2 of the oldest members ended up being actual PSYCHOS. (Which is why I also quitted roleplaying)
- Deviantart was rumored to either be shutting down or heading into a worse fate since they started censoring Mature Art/Literature/Fanfics (I remember all the artists who had their 20something chaptered fics and comics OBLITERATED off the site without a reason). So many people left DA for other blogs and I remember thinking the same, that I needed to migrate elsewhere. I tried 2 new social medias that eventually disappeared with less than a year of existence and then there was tumblr with had apparently been created for that very purpose (as a refuge for artists & people in general who were disappointed or got screwed over by the system). Which is funny because tumblr ended up the same way...
I still kept both my DA accounts active and I still post ALL of my artwork/photography there.
6. Why did you choose your icon?
I usually changed my icon frequently, but this recent/current icon is special to me, because it was made as a tattoo design for my Jikook Vampire fic (Forever, You Said) of a butterfly trapped between a Full Moon/New Moon. Its a matching tattoo between jikook (Jimin’s is a yellow butterfly inside a new moon, while JK’s is a blue butterfly inside a full moon). Meant to symbolize how both existed in the same timeline separated by two worlds with Jimin being a vampire and Jungkook being human, but their lives got intertwined since their first meeting.
7. Why did you choose your header?
[I legit had to go back and check what my header was ‘cause i forgot]
Because I mean... Its Park Motherfucking Jimin.
8. What’s your post with the most notes?
Like... this month? I think its the post about BTS as Flower Spirits from the HYBE museum.
9. How many mutuals do you have?
Few but I love them (same)
10. How many followers do you have?
635... damn, when did that happened?? WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?!
11. How many people do you follow?
Like 14ish? Most of them were fanartists I really admired, but sadly most of them aren’t active or left for Twitter cause people kept coming to tumblr to steal their art and post it on twitter/instagram. So they moved to twitter in order to have some “control” over their works, but now people steal their art from Twitter and come to post it on Tumblr 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
And this is why I still post most of my art on Deviantart.
12. Have you ever made a shitpost?
I... I dunno, have I? Oo
13. How often do you use tumblr each day?
24hrs/7 days a week, I never really log out of tumblr. So I just wake up, eat breakfast/lunch (whatever’s available at 11am), do chores around the house, make sure my fam’s healthy, fed and comfy before I jump back into tumblr where I kill off most of the day and night. If I’m not here I’m on deviantart or Ao3.
14. Did you have a fight/argument with another blog once? Who won?
I usually avoid going to other blogs to argue per se because most of these blogs that shitpost for the sake of creating conflict are very young and very ignorant. They never see reason/logic even when you slap ‘em across the face with receipts. So I don’t bother.
HOWEVER, ain’t afraid to calling people out through my own posts from time to time without the need to name names. If it fits, it ships and if you offended that’s a YOU problem.
15. How do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts?
I avoid them as much as possible. I’m like Taehyung on that note, I’m the type of person that if you try to force me to do something and I see no benefit (for me) in it? I won’t do it.
16. Do you like tag games?
Yes, they’re fun and break the monotony.
17. Do you like ask games?
I do... but no one ever interacts with me for them 🙃
18. Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
Eehh.. maybe @utopiajeon , @debrenner , @aikimei
19. Do I have a crush on a mutual?
I mean I love them and think they’re awesome people, but I also think of them as the children I don’t plan on having in the future. LOL
20. Tags?
@utopiajeon @doctorcerberus  @i-like-plain-rice @corkytheguar   anyone who wants to do it!🌸

I hope it’s alright that I talk about this here,
I had gender dysphoria for a majority of my summer vacation. Did as much research as I could in private on things, such as how much chest binders were. During this time, there was still quite a bit I didn’t know. Like what neo-pronouns were.
During this time, I had been in an online relationship. The guy I was with was the only person I had that I could comfortably discuss this with.. of course, I’m not gonna get into detail as to what happened, but he kept trying to push me away from any conclusions, turned out to lie about his sexuality, and yeah.
Anyways, I first came out to someone about being non-binary back in September of 2020. Not any family yet, because I didn’t know how they felt about this kinda stuff. I slowly let more and more online friends know.. soon feeling comfortable to express it more and more. Adding my pronouns, all that. Heck, I even gathered the courage to come out to my big sister! Things were going great until sometime in late December.
My mother had checked her twitter. And since she follows me, she began seeing you posts about being non-binary. When she saw this, let’s just say she was quite disgusted. She went on this whole tangent about how “god made me a girl for a reason” and how non-binary people apparently don’t exist.
She really went and pulled the “if you don’t have both sets of privates, you’re not non-binary” route with it.
Since then, she probably thinks I’ve gotten over it. But no. No. I’m still really upset with what she said. Since that day? I’ve wanted so badly to get up in her face and tell her that she had no right to choose who I am. But I know damn well that won’t end good.
I had to migrate to a whole new account on Twitter, just to feel free to continue to express myself with no fear.
I dunno why I felt the need to rant about it here, but.. here I am I guess.
It is absolutely fine to talk about anything here, this is a safe space for everything and you will never be judged or hated on. I am here to help for everything. I am sorry she found out like that and her reaction wasn’t the best. She might just have not understood and her poor reaction may have been due to lack of education. You could maybe calmly approach her and state that this isn’t about your genitals but about how you feel on the inside. That´s how I had to do it with my mum and it helped her a little bit. I would only say approach her about it if you feel comfortable though. Something I have learnt the hard way is not everyone will accept who you are but I know this is particularly hard to wrap your head around when it is your own parents (I know from experience). All I can suggest is continue being out to your friends etc who support you and it can be tough sometimes but in the end everything will work out. I also migrated to another social media page (this one) rather then another one so people I know couldn’t find me unless I told them about it. If there is anything else I can try and help with always message and I hope this response helped a bit.
I am proud of you and you are valid no matter what anyone else says. 🥰🥰🥰

...why is this happening? why does this keep happening? what did she do? 🥺 why do you guys keep attacking her? like i just really want to know why you are doing this please give me a straight answer. you always seem to find a reason to cancel her or try and tear her down and Madison doesn’t deserve any of it. she’s so new to this platform and again - it’s sad to see her welcomee with such hatefulness. i don’t even know what to say honestly i’m just blown away by what this place is becoming. i don’t know if the twitter stans are starting to migrate or what...but this just has to stop guys.
coming together and being there for one another - that is what this place is about. loving writing, the twins, and any other fandom you choose - that’s what makes us thrive here. but not this shit. not this. reporting someone until their account is deleted and marked explicit is just too far, darlings. it just is. i’m t trying to be gentle because apparently me yelling doesn’t work so maybe this will.
but please for the love of all that is holy - stop. being. mean.
spread love and kindness, it costs nothing. you don’t have to even have a wallet or a checkbook for it. it’s free. love and kindness are free. they are enternal. they can make YOU feel better by spreading it around as well.
but madison did not deserve this and does not deserve this and if you wanna talk i’m here to be a listening ear. i saw the asks and the hate and hurt in them and maybe you just need a shoulder to lean on - so i can be that for you. but i encourage you to reach deep down and really understand why you wanted to ruin her fun and her happiness like that for no reason.
if nothing else, just leave this app/site please if you can’t be kind. i just want to see the happiness that used to bounce around on my dash instead of this dark hurtful shit that won’t go away. i’m sure her inbox is just as hurtful if not more hurtful than what was actually shown to us - her FRIENDS.

this is an outta nowhere question but what are your thoughts on Joker in Smash about a year since he was added? I've heard some folks say the reason the Persona fandom got so toxic is bc Smash got involved and I wanted to know what you thought since you've been in it way longer than P5 and Joker in Smash
Short answer: Yes AND No.
Long answer (it’s me of course it’s gonna be under the cut due to length 8U):
I’mma be honest, there’s always toxic fans. I know Smash Fans (and Nintendo fans in general) haven’t exactly been peaches, esp when it comes to Twitter (which I think is also an issue atm). But there were toxic fans before than and there’ll be toxic fans later. It’s just life tbh. (dunno where to put this but I’ll put it here: Twitter nowadays is like 2012-2015ish Tumblr, different being Tumblr was a bit more hiveminded and if you disagreed with a popular fandom opinion you.....were kinda bullied let’s be honest so no one could really say their opinions. While Twitter now it’s not a hivemind but instead two sided extremist that you need to choose. Both toxic and similar but just a taaaaad bit different, I’d probs take the two extremist sides over the hivemind if I had to chose tho...even tho Tumblr had better content during that era than Twitter right now imo but that’s in general and not Persona only. 8U Tumblr’s REALLY calmed down since the porn ban I’m not gonna lie, and ironically that’s roughly around the time that Twitter started getting shitty. So like....kinda saying there’s a correlation, I think a lot of toxic tumblr people probably migrated to twitter, and while there’s toxic fans everywhere it feels like a lot gather on Twitter so it really highlights the fandom there sadly).
From my experience (which is from P4 PS2 era onward, I missed the pre-P4 P3 PS2 era stuff but apparently there were waifu wars which from what I’ve found I probs would’ve just classified as “shipping war” stuff rather than waifu wars....and it seemed liked standard shipping war stuff from back then), the bigger a fandom grows the more fans it obviously attracts, but that also means more toxic fans too. And that’s why I say yes and no for the smash community, yes because they did attract more fans (and their community seems to be a bit toxic atm, like I get expressing your wants to a company and I support that! but the INSTANT you don’t get a specific character announced for the fighter pass and instead of just being like “oh golly darn :(” but instead “***** this place ***** Nintendo you all suck ****** *slur* *slur*” yeah no that’s a little....you gotta take a step back buddy, so yeah I’m sure there’s a bit more toxic fans in that fandom atm but they are also a BIG ASS FANDOM so I’m not surprised), but it’s also just the cause and effect of the fandom getting bigger in general.
It happened when P4 got it’s anime (btw anime fans ya still valid and are a Persona fan, just keep in mind if you wanna talk lore just know you did watch a very abridged version of the game so be aware you might have somethings wrong cause of that.....cause I’ve seen it happen.....DX btw let’s play watchers are also real Persona fans and I’d say even people who just like Joker in Smash are at least Joker fans and that’s ok too enough gate keeping guys DX), it happened when we started getting spinoffs, kinda with the P3 movies (only really cause FeMC fans were salty or P3 fans upset what was cut/changed, but it wasn’t on any toxic level tbh just normal complaints, I think the fact it was a movie instead of an anime bypassed newer fans than with P4/5 animes), it happened when P5 solidified it into the mainstream gaming market (I’ll stand by P4 helped break Persona into it via all the other avenues of mainstream, with P5 finally latching the main series into mainstream games.....I say mainstream cause spinoffs are looking the same as pre mainstream which.....>.> *shrugs* could be better imo), it happened with P5′s anime, and it happened with Smash Bros. And tbh I’m sure it happened or will happen with the Steam community (and Switch/Xbox if it ever goes there too) and P4G (P4 fans go through the same cycle of BS constantly, most of which I believe originated with the anime generation, that it’s hard to tell if there was an uptick or not). And it’ll probs get an uptick again with P6, and then P6′s anime. And maybe manga cause maybe P6 fans like the P5 fans and won’t listen when people say “don’t get attached to the manga name it’s probs not gonna be used so hold off till the anime” but hey let’s have drama for no reason cause we need it. 8U (obvie you can still like the manga name, it’s more for people complaining about name changes or not getting why Atlus just didn’t keep the manga name even tho an explanation is probs within arm’s reach and they were warned beforehand)
*sighs* Sorry back on topic, each time the fandom grows so will toxic fans. Tbh I feel like the phrase “toxic fans” are thrown around a lot. And it’s esp used for only....”haters” it feels like and I don’t think that’s right (cause it can be fans too), it just feels like ANY negativity (even constructive and kept reigned in by certain users) is viewed as that. Like take me, I’m sure I’m probs labeled as a “toxic fan” due to be being a Megaten/Persona fan but disliking P5 and talking shit/calling it out. But I try my damnedest to do that in the appropriate places (ie my personal blog, maybe a confessions place, or a thread/board that’s expressing negatives only OR it’s explaining/expressing pros and cons type of stuff, I find that to be the best because it keeps people who want to vent away from people who want to gush so no war happens, not saying I am perfect or you HAVE to follow this or you are toxic, it’s what I decided to ascribe to and find it works well and good enough and it gives me a better fandom experience). Aka, I don’t go on twitter to someone’s fanart of Yukari or Makoto and trash the character because I’m not a freaking asshole (or in this case a ~toxic fan~). But this also applies to the “fans” as well who will talk about something they like (character/game) but the ONLY  way they can raise it up is by tearing down something else (other character/game), it’s really rude and also toxic as well. Negativity is not inherently bad all the time, and Positivity is not inherently good all the time (with positivity it’s more of giving yourself a break from it rather than saying something positive can be bad at times, tho I’m sure there are times that-that has happened but it’s 2:30 am and I don’t want to think of an example for that). It’s how it’s used/expressed. I see the Twitter community trying to combat the “negativity” by trying to only spread “positivity” and I’m afraid 1) any negative expression, even constructive, will be scorned (I guess I’m afraid of us going back to a hivemind mentality again), but most importantly 2) the people trying to head it are going to be burned out and it’ll hurt them mentally (I do not want it to happen obvie, but I know personally it can wear you down which is why I’m concerned). Don’t get me wrong I love what they are doing/trying to do, but I think we’re generalizing the word “negativity” and “positivity” a bit too much and it’s just raising a few red flags for me (I’m just hoping I’m being paranoid/overanalyzing in this case).
Uhhh there was one last thing I wanted to address.....Oh yeah gate keeping. I know you asked about Smash but this stuff is kinda related and hey think of it as a history lesson for the Persona fandom (or at least Nusona cause I didn’t have a game system in the 90s ;_; plus wee little me wouldn’t have been able to find P1/2 fandoms back then due to me not really using the internet like I do nowadays till around P3 was probs released). Plus you know how long winded I am so this is kinda what you sign up for, 3 am ramblings of overexplaining~! But gdi I will try to cover all the bases and get my point across in....some fashion. 8U
But yeah, Gatekeeping in relation to the Smash fans, cause I see Persona fans shit on new fans that got into Persona through Smash (I know above I said Joker fans are valid Joker fans rather than Persona fans, but I’m assuming they’ve yet to play/watch Persona and are just aware of Joker and are a fan of him vs the fans who saw Joker and then watch/played the games to get into the fandom. One set is a fan of a character vs the other set got into a franchise because of said character. Like I wouldn’t say I’m a FE fan cause I liked Marth/Roy in SSBM, which is why I have that distinction myself BUT if you wanna call yourself a Persona fan that’s valid, you’re valid, it’s whatever, I don’t really care about the details that much, I just have two categories for convenience). Anyway I don’t think it’s fair to shit on them. Same as I don’t think it’s fair to shit on anime only or manga only fans. Or if they got into the fandom through Nusona (Oldsona is P1/2, Nusona is P3-5 atm). Or Oldsona. Or another Megaten game.
Maybe it’s cause I came from P4, where it got shit on cause it wasn’t (”dark”) like P3, it wasn’t (”dark”) like Oldsona, it wasn’t “dark” like other Megaten games, it got shit on every way to Sunday for daring to try to have a more lightened mood at times (3 murders happen, we see 3 dead bodies, a 6 yo dies onscreen, we have characters going through intense existential crises, we deal with characters mourning through death as well as other relatable struggles, basically shows our teammates die one by one in the final boss, having a chance to hear Naoto’s death scream on the phone if you don’t stop Adachi, just the “you didn’t save the person” phone calls in general, talks about society’s toxic gender roles and how it can negatively effect a person both to an extreme extent and minor, god forbid they eat an animal cracker to lighten the mood, and this isn’t counting the dark shit that happens in the spinoffs). As if P1/2/3 don’t have comedy, or any other Megaten game, all the demons are freaking weird of course there is comedy. Oh and it also got shit on for going mainstream first, and not even counting that it got shit on for spinoffs (which P3 was included but no P3 gets a pass for some reason), and the fact that it was shit on for not being P5 (before and a little while after P5 came out) because it wasn’t “dark” like P5 (fdksjafajkfljafj P5 has it’s moments, esp with Shiho, tho P4D did it first and went through with it, but seriously each game has it’s own light and dark moments and one isn’t better than the other only cause they have more of one than the other). And....*sigh* let’s just say thank god that I was able to buy other Megaten games right before the flood gates of shit came in, cause I dunno if I would’ve wanted to give it a chance if I had to hear my fav game shit on constantly. I say I dunno cause tbh I was craving more after P4 so badly I still would’ve probs gotten into it regardless of the fandom, I wanted more from the franchise even if it wasn’t 100% like P4.
But tbh I don’t blame P5 fans, anime fans, or Smash fans for maybe not wanting to get into the rest of the series. I get old fans of whatever feeling like they are...I dunno being invaded? By new people in the fandom. Or their afraid of new fans not fully understanding the franchise (hey guys that’s where you teach people instead of try to passive aggressively try to get them to leave the fandom I dunno maybe make posts to educate instead of trying to push away??? 030). And change is hard and yeah. And maybe you don’t like the new game (keep in mind there’s a diff between saying “*insert* Sux” and “I don’t like *insert* because...” one’s shitting on something and the other is constructive), but hey shitting on the game they like is probs not gonna win them over to your fav game sflkdjafkjafja Educate and be helpful, don’t gatekeep and drive people away. That’s a sure fire way for us to lose this franchise (remember we almost lost Atlus all together, but it was able to get a 2nd life thanks to P4 saving it....tbh probably wouldn’t have ever gotten P5 nor SMTV nor any spinoffs if not for P4′s success with its game and anime, this is both a history lesson and a word of warning since it already almost happened once).
Tldr; Smash didn’t help but it’s really just the fact the fandom got bigger and bigger fandom means we also end up getting more toxic fans mixed in. Twitter now is basically 2012-2015!Tumblr (diff is Tumblr’s was a hivemind vs Twitter’s now extremist two sides only thing), and Tumblr’s porn ban probably migrated a lot of their toxic fans to Twitter which probs hasn’t helped any fandoms on there. Negativity in general isn’t an issue, it’s if you’re being an outright asshole where it’s an issue. Don’t be an asshole in general, if you need to vent then vent where you need to, if you wanna gush then gush were you need to and without bringing anyone/anything down obvie. You are a Persona fan, regardless of where/how you started. Don’t gatekeep for the love of god, or so help me Jack Frost will sneak into your house and smack you in the face with a snowball (and if he doesn’t then I will.....jk...half jk 8U). Also *sprinkles of (allusions to? I dunno I tried it’s 3 am and my 2nd try on answering this and the first one was just as long) Silly’s Persona fandom history lessons throughout the post*

2020 in books so far! All 21 of them!
Season of Storms by Andrzej Sapkowski -- Finished January 1st. My least favorite Witcher novel. In a series that managed to surprise and endear me at every turn, this one final romp did almost nothing for me. 2/5 stars.
Star Wars: Hard Merchandise by K.W. Jeter -- Finished January 17th. The final chapter in the Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy, and by far the worst of the three. 2/5 stars.
Migration by Julie E. Czerneda -- Finished February 18th. The middle chapter in Czerneda’s excellent Species Imperative trilogy, fun and charismatic, sciencey and cute. Didn’t hit me quite the same way as the first in the trilogy did, but still had fun. 4/5 stars.
Star Wars: Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn -- Finished February 2nd. It was okay. 3/5 stars.
To be continued under the cut, including thoughts on The Expanse, which has taken over my life this year:
Mass Effect: Revelation by Drew Karpyshyn -- Finished February 25th. Borrowed from a coworker, was immensely disappointed, decided once and for all I wasn’t going to touch tie-in novels for the rest of the year. That wound up being a great decision. 2/5 stars.
The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty -- Finished March 12th. The first of Chakraborty’s Daevabad trilogy, this was a great little historical fantasy fiction about a half-djinn caught up in about a thousand tropes I usually hate, but were written with care and nuance and charm. 4/5 stars.
Midway through The City of Brass, news of a virus overseas begin making waves.
Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie -- Finished March 29th. The first of Leckie’s Imperial Radch saga. So, so, so many incredible concepts that I loved dearly... but all just slightly off to the side of where they would normally hit me. I wanted to love this book so badly, and it kept almost hitting me, but never quite did, at least not as hard as I wanted it to. Still, I enjoyed the world and the characters enough that I bought the sequel and will read it soon. 3/5 stars.
AAAAAND PANDEMIC! I began this book when I was still working, and finished it while in quarantine. So that’s fun. From here on out, all of these books were read from my couch or my bed.
The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison -- Finished April 16th. Another book I wanted desperately to love and... succeeded a bit more than with Ancillary Justice, thanks to how ceaselessly charming it was. But the names. Oh, god this book is full of fake fantasy names and titles and you have to remember all of them and the glossary isn’t always helpful. But, still. I found myself so endeared, I couldn’t put it down. 4/5 stars.
Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey -- Finished May 3rd. The first book of The Expanse, and I fell in love instantly. This one hit all the right buttons and didn’t stop: good science fiction, fun space adventure, charming characters, perfect level of tension, the list goes on. And reading this one was... the beginning of a certain obsession I’ve had this year. 5/5 stars.
Consider Phlebas by Iain M. Banks -- Finished May 21st. The latter half of this book? Great. Stellar. The first half...? Uhhhhh. Eh? By far one of the most insufferable protagonists I’ve ever had to slog through, but some really cool scifi concepts here (and also some really bad ones -- the whole desert island cannibal thing was stupid as hell, but the Damage Game got me). 3/5 stars.
Caliban’s War by James S.A. Corey -- Finished May 30th. The second book in The Expanse series. I could not put this one down. Everything I loved about Leviathan Wakes, amplified a thousand times. The additions of Bobbie, Prax, and Avasarala made me ascend. This book fired on all cylinders and I loved every moment of it; it stands as one of my three favorite Expanse books so far -- but we’ll get to those. Anyway, I can’t give it 6/5, so we’ll have to settle with: 5/5 stars.
Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut -- Finished June 1st. A book I’d been meaning to read for a while and finally got around to. Literally finished it in two sittings. Mostly it made me sad. 4/5 stars.
The Strong Shall Live by Louis L’Amour -- Finished June 2nd. A collection of wild west short stories. A couple were great, a few were awful -- most were just okay. I’d been reading it slowly since December, and finishing felt more like a weight off my mind than anything else. Still, some of these stories were incredibly memorable. 3/5 stars.
Larissa by Emily Devenport -- Finished June 4th. I read this in about three sittings overall, which is a lot faster than I usually read. It wasn’t particularly good, but it was the exact sort of scifi junk I eat up for some reason. This is... a very, very weird one. It was very progressive for the time (the book is as old as I am), so much so that I wasn’t surprised to find her on Twitter very publicly supporting BLM and decrying the current administration. It’s about a black woman in space, wealth disparity, and a bunch of other stuff. Some of it works, some of it doesn’t, but Devenport was trying, all the way back in 93. It’s also the sequel to a book I didn’t know existed until I’d already finished, but I guess that one didn’t matter so much to the plot of Larissa? Anyway, had a blast, even though I can’t quite put a finger on why. 4/5 stars. (I actually had this one marked as 3/5 stars, but my memories of it are all very positive, so... it was worth the bump.)
Abaddon’s Gate by James S.A. Corey -- Finished June 13th. Third in The Expanse, and not my favorite. The pacing in the first half was a little wonky, but once it gets going, boy does it go. 4/5 stars.
Regeneration by Julie E. Czerneda -- Finished June 25th. The final entry in the Species Imperative trilogy. This might have been my least favorite of the three, unfortunately, as much like Ancillary Justice it always seemed to hit just to the side of where I wanted it to. The first one was by far my favorite, and the third installment just couldn’t recapture that magic, but I love the protagonist and was happy to walk with her to the end. Plus, as always, there’s some damn good science fiction here. 4/5 stars.
Cibola Burn by James S.A. Corey -- Finished July 4th. HELL YEAH MOTHERFUCKER, this one has everything! I don’t even want to spoil what, just know that this is exactly what you want after Abaddon’s Gate, and had everything it was missing and more. This one rocked my fucking world, and is one of my three favorite Expanse books so far. Another one I’d rate higher if I could, but for now... 5/5 stars.
The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold -- DNF, July 8th. This book had me until the 35-year-old protagonist started trying to hide his arousal while he was watching the two teenage girls he was tutoring swim, and it was played off as like... cute? I don’t know man, fuck this book, it made me miserable.
Nemesis Games by James S.A. Corey -- Finished July 16th. Once again, HELL YEAH MOTHERFUCKER, HELL YEAH! This book begins with some of the slowest pacing in the series so far, but god, have they earned it. It feels so good to just take a break and walk a mile in the shoes of all your favorite characters. And then when things hit? Boy do they fucking hit. The third in my trifecta of favorite Expanse books so far, and another I’d rate higher if I could. 5/5 stars.
The Assassin’s Curse by Cassandra Rose Clarke -- Finished July 21st. I really thought this was going to be a fun pirate book. Instead, it’s a book about a fun pirate slogging along with the most obnoxious man in the history of fiction, who she is also falling in love with, apparently, for some reason. I don’t know. This is a duology but idk if I’m even interested in the sequel. Which is a shame, because I really liked the protagonist. 2/5 stars.
Babylon’s Ashes by James S.A. Corey -- Finished August 5th. Definitely my least favorite Expanse novel so far, mostly because the narrative was stretched very thin. This one hit really fucking hard toward the beginning, and again at the end, but in the middle? The middle was very... nebulous. A lot happens and I’m not interested in all of it, which is something this series has thus far managed to avoid doing. Still, very good, just not quite up to the standards I’m used to from this series. 4/5 stars.
And... it’s August! And I haven’t picked up another book since the 5th, which feels weird, but is due to a lot of factors. I’m in the middle of moving, so I don’t have as much time to read during the day. But also I’m waiting on a shipment of books to come in, and it hasn’t yet, and that’s stressing me out. Of those, there are a couple I’m leaning toward reading, but if the ol’ Read The First Page trick doesn’t work on any of them, I’ll probably hop back to Imperial Radch.

about a minute after i pulled away from my house on tuesday i realized i forgot my pink face paint but it was already too late to turn around. doing something like that would cause the dominoes of delays to topple and i wouldn’t actually make my flight. for that sacrifice i was rewarded smooth travel, but that meant my friday was a little less...fredag-y. alas.
i woke up for the sunrise again, and was rewarded with a mostly clear sky. the weather was turning out better than expected, which was good because i was planning on some walking today. the night before jenn invited me to ett bord for lunch, so that was my first scheduled event for the day, but i had some stops i wanted to make for personal, skam-related reasons.
after a leisurely breakfast i got dressed and applied sunscreen. then i messaged with nadège to figure out where to meet up on my way to nissen. i wanted to visit the national gallery, even though it was closed, as just a final nod to the museum that inspired rule of seven. we managed to message a firm meet up and then completely miss each other on the street, but we got our shit together eventually and made it to the museum. it was a little sad, if only because another tourist came up to us asking where the entrance was, and we had to break the news that the museum was closed at that location. granted, it was probably confusing seeing us taking pictures of the building as if it were still an active site, but still less confusing than the instructions i tried to give them about visiting the new museum in 2020 (uhhhh wtf kerry).
we moved on. we went to the school for no reason other than to step back into that world for a little bit, check up on the benches. we went to the KB for a drink, and then walked to the restaurant. i’m glossing over most of this because a lot of what was said during this time made me uncomfortable, and it all kind of built up over the next few hours until i snapped at lunch. i didn’t speak out or anything, i just capslocked on twitter once and then tried to tune everyone out. for some reason the restaurant was playing exclusively ed sheeran songs, so i just listened to that instead. i plucked heads and exoskeletons off of shrimp and drowned myself in lukewarm pop music.
the food was good. it was the first time i’d eaten shrimp like that. i don’t know what i was expecting, ordering “norwegian shrimp,” but that was exactly what it was and i shouldn’t have been so shocked. but in general i powered through.
after lunch i went back to the hotel to change before the park. i didn’t have my face paint but i was going to wear a skirt because it was robyn and apparently “one step up from the bare minimum” is my love language. i fell asleep at some point in my preparations, and woke up with my thumb still scrolling through instagram. then i was late, and missed seeing girl in red. but i found my girls as they migrated to the next stage, and was blessed with an absolutely electric performance from christine and the queens. it was another artist i’d never listened to before but i instantly regretted that; she blew us away with her energy and attitude and message, pumping out songs that your heart somehow already knew. it was a good mood-lifter, which i sorely needed after that afternoon.
okay well hold the phone because it’s been weeks since i started writing this post and i definitely lost my train of thought. after christine and the queens we went to get food. after we found a table to sit at, jenni, taru, and kati found us to do some hilarious candy trades. i was not aware of how valuable reese’s are overseas. but the point of mentioning this is that i was being wildly rude to these women because i was not sure who they were, and thus acted very cold. jenn had actually introduced me to jenni the day before and i simply did not connect her to the person i had chatted with online, someone i already knew. so i just compartmentalized them into “oh these are jenn’s friends” and kept myself out of their conversations. it’s kind of a generally rude thing to do, to shut myself off instead of trying to integrate with small talk, but here it was extra rude because i seemed to be ignoring the fact that we’d already “met.” gah! also i’m not sure when i finally connected the dots, but it was late enough to feel deep embarrassment about it and not really figure out how to apologize about it. so i didn’t. i think i tried to be more friendly when we met up the next day but knowing me i probably wasn’t. anyway, i apologize both for how i acted and for not acknowledging it/apologizing for it in person. i usually have a good reason for being rude, but this time it was just...insecurities? ugh.
okay so...the rest of the evening was just ROBYN. we tended to always gather around the same location, stage right, not too close but decently close because i fucking flew to oslo for this. and with every successive evening, the crowds were packed in tighter and more likely to dance. i was still trying to get used to the general lack of personal space but pretty early on i just gave up trying to stand my ground, letting people push past me and not worrying about who i was pushing in return. like, no one was going to win the fight for whatever little patch of grass you were standing on.
it was also an interesting experience as someone who is very aware of how much space she takes up in this world (too much!), being forced to acknowledge that constantly by the pressure of other people against my front and back. it didn’t help that i was wearing a backpack. but most of the time i can ignore that “bigness” by only being in spaces that allow me to fit with ample air around me. (the closest i get to other people these days is my airplane seat.) at a general admission concert though, that doesn’t exist. so i would sing and dance and think about weighing 237 pounds. i don’t know if it was necessarily a bad thing, just a new thing, and it was probably actually good to have that constant awareness, to shrink my comfort zone. i dunno. the real fight was me going back and forth thinking “i wish i took up less space” and “you deserve as much space as any other human being.”
clearly the problem with waiting a month to write a travel recap is that it actually becomes a therapy session about things that could’ve been figured out back in the states. so let’s really move on to robyn. leading up to the festival i’d been lazily following robyn’s tour, watching her play new york city twice and eating up every fan video of “dancing on my own,” where she let the crowd sing it for her simply because they were going to anyway. i was so excited to finally be part of that crowd, to hear the music like that, in my bones. and i did.
i tried to get my picture-taking out of the way at the beginning, because all i needed was one clear photo that could prove i was there. i don’t think i actually got it, but the important thing was i put my phone away and just enjoyed the music for most of her set. i had it ready to go when her two hits started, of course, but robyn, of all of the artists i’d seen, seemed most focused on creating an atmosphere for everyone to just be in. we had billowing curtains and sensual dancers that moved the air around us, which moved us too. we all were encased in lace with ribbons in our hair.
at some point i noticed a guy off to my right who was holding his plastic cup, the reusable one meant for the festival, and it was lit up. he had turned on his camera’s flashlight and was amplifying it through the bottom of the cup. i thought it was very clever and was impressed, wishing i could pause the concert to get enough space to retrieve my cup from my backpack and join him. i wanted to sway and hold up my lighter too.
i think i pointed it out to nadège in that pantomime way, just trying to direct her eyes away from the stage and hoping she’d figure the rest out on her own. she, of course, was already aware, because she then pointed out everyone else at the concert doing the same thing. i don’t know why i didn’t see it before, why i thought only this one guy was doing it, but the rest of the joint was lit up like a candlelight vigil. (looking back at the video i took during her bows, i’m realizing i simply didn’t see it because i’m too fucking short. i had to hold my phone up over my head to see the rest of the crowd beyond the border wall of shoulders around me.) she had the whole crowd at her feet, keeping watch, sending out electro-pop prayers.
i got what i came for. i got the rush of nostalgia for bånder, the single, freeing heartbeat of everyone dancing on their own, and the press of bodies to remind you you’re not actually alone. i was in oslo, the lights were blue, and i felt the pulse that’s been keeping me company ever since the clip dropped. as uncomfortable as my body might’ve been, my heart felt like it was where it belonged.
ugh that was some purple ass writing right there. and now i have to follow it up with “and then i walked back to the hotel.” because i did. i opened a new tab on my computer, and like it’s been doing for the past nearly-three years, it directed to the skam homepage. tap, tap, scroll, and then bånder was playing, chris was dancing, and isak and even were learning what electricity felt like with just a single point of eye contact.
then i was probably too buzzed to fall asleep for another couple of hours which is always a good life choice when you’re already severely sleep deprived. but when i did eventually nod off, i did so knowing that isak and even were on their way to falling in love, and an entire park had felt it too.

I had a great week. There are a bunch more Qt fixes, and a few other things as well.
Qt
I have fixed a bunch more bugs in the Qt code. We are getting to the end now--this is mostly smaller stuff like an unusual dialog button not working, but I have fixed another important memory leak that was causing some backend not to be deleted correctly when a media viewer closed on a video. This should radically reduce memory use for some heavily used clients.
Some windows that were large, or could expand to be, like the options dialog on some pages, were sizing off the edge of the screen. This should be fixed now, and a variety of child-window initial size calculations should be a bit more accurate--Qt manages window size a little differently than wx, and the additional buffer represented by the window title frame and border was not being taken into account.
The menubar menus should work a little snappier this week. Things like the rapid 'pending (xxx)' menu updates when a downloader is importing files with tags. The whole UI should get a little latency benefit from this during these high-traffic times.
I also gave the layout and scaling another go on clients that use UI scaling (when you tell your OS to display UI at >100% on a monitor) on high dpi displays. The experiment from last week did not go how I wanted, with pixelly scaled-up thumbnails, so I have reworked that and fixed the taglist, which was crunching tags together on these displays.
the rest
For users who have been trying to download from unreliable or tight servers, the network engine now handles connection errors and 'server was busy due to low bandwidth' errors separately, and has separate delay time options for both of these under options->connection.
There's a new danbooru login script. They apparently changed their cookies a little. If you use a danbooru login and have had trouble, please make sure your credentials carried over to the new script and give it another go.
For users who have complicated file storage failures and need some specific recovery options, there are now new jobs under the file maintenance system to quietly delete bad files from storage without affecting the db file record, and also to re-download files that are missing or broken if they have known urls. These jobs are experimental and only useful for certain file recovery scenarios, but if you have been waiting on something like this, please give them a careful go and feel free to ask for help.
full list
qt:
disabled the failed legacy high dpi scaling mode experiment (which was scaling up thumbnails and media in an ugly way) and returned to font-size-based natural ui scaling as set by the OS. a couple of non-font things like bitmap buttons and various layout margins are too small on >100% UI scale, and the splash screen is borked again, but it looks clear again. I'll keep working on this
fixed the custom taglist at >100% UI scale, which was spacing its tags at the wrong text height. this should survive changing ui scale while the program is open and environments with multiple monitors at different ui scale
re-fixed a critical old media-viewer-close-on-video memory leak from wx code to qt code. this was also a cause for some child ffmpeg processes not being terminated
fixed the media viewer not redrawing correctly when the media size completely exceeds the canvas window size
fixed the loading of the shortcut edit panel when the shortcut set a tag
fixed some url class edit path component ui
fixed and cleaned up some 'safe window size/position' calculations that were missing out the total frame geometry, meaning some dialogs were not moving up and left enough to show entirely on screen, and dialogs with parent-dimension gravity were not calculating initial size accurately
fixed focusing on the already-open manage tags text input when you hit 'manage tags' on a canvas with a manage tags dialog already open
fixed the html formula rule edit ui actually rendering html tag labels, lmao
updated boot-password entry to use the normal hydrus text entry dialog, and fixed a hydrus password cancel not setting a 'clean' exit for the next boot
fixed page layout splitter sash positions not resetting nicely from the menu command
fixed keyboard delete in the manage urls dialog
popup message titles are now in bold
popup message titles should now multiline correctly and fill available width
the popup messages manager should now set its min/fixed width more sensibly
subscription popups now will be wider if space is available
wrote a new class to manage better asynchronous updates for future Qt ui presentation
the file, pages, and pending menubar menus, which all require a db hit to generate, now operate on this new update class. all three should update faster when able and more politely and smoothly wait when the db is busy
reduced some accidental blocking in an old ui-update routine that kicked in when it was running hard
if the media_viewer frame type is set not to remember its 'last size', it will now instantiate with a small min size
when pasting new queries into a sub, if there are more than 5 or 50 that are already in or new, they will be rendered in a more compact way in order to stop the notification dialog growing too tall
improved stability of page update, splash screen update, and perhaps pubsub update
.
new file maintenance jobs:
added a new 'check for missing files' file maintenance job, where if the file is missing and has urls, those urls will be queued up in a new url downloader for redownload. the file record is not removed, preserving archive/inbox and import time
added a new 'check for invalid files' file maintenance job that does the same deal as above with an additional expensive byte-for-byte content check if the file is not missing
added a new 'check for invalid files' file maintenance job that only cares about invalidity--if the file is present and invalid, it is moved out but the file record is not removed
.
the rest:
network jobs that receive low-bandwidth error codes from the server now use a separate wait routine (previously, they piggybacked on the connection fail retry system). they have a separate cog-menu action to override these waits
the time delay multiple for connection errors and serverside bandwidth problems are now editable under options->connection. old default was 10 seconds base, now 15 and 60 seconds respectively
updated the danbooru login script
improved the precision of the thumbnail size estimate in database migration
the alphabetisation of a url class's GET paramaters on normalise is now optional. it is a new checkbox on the url class edit panel
when a default object fails to load from a png path, a simple error is now written to the log
misc cleanup
next week
I got hit by some IRL stuff right at the end of this week, including some Thanksgiving surprises, so I couldn't fit in the new downloaders I wanted to, but I have some fixes for pixiv tag search and twitter video download waiting to be added. I also couldn't get to Qt theming again, nor macOS tab DnD! So, I'll focus on those first thing so they definitely get done.
Otherwise, next week is scheduled to be a 'medium size' job week. I would like to get a long-planned overhaul of subscription data handling done. Subs are getting huge and clunky for many users, and I'd like to have them load into their dialog and do their normal work much faster, with much less CPU and HDD involved.
Happy Thanksgiving!
