Oh em gee hi hi! I know we haven’t really interacted yet so...hi again! Could I please request Cloche ∅ with my ocs Ellis and Artemis?
RAHHH THANK YOU :D
[Ask Game]
Cloche’ thoughts on…
Tumblr media
Ellis
“Master Ellis makes good company, but I feel like I must watch my tone around her.”
• Different objectives. Cloche views Ellis’ open-mindedness to learn new things and hear about others’ perspective in a positive light. Cloche is glad Ellis isn’t weighed down by personal biases, trying to keep peace and compromise the best she can, but Ellis’ personal optimism may irk Cloche. If they are handling a social situation together, Cloche can try to follow Ellis’ lead to be more compassionate, if it means they won’t conflict. Cloche may see Ellis as “too emotionally driven”, but she’s not adverse to it, as long as Ellis doesn’t push her values on to Cloche.
• Impressed by Ellis’ academic drive. She thinks it’s admirable that Ellis is on top of her game with Magic History, especially since she didn’t have background knowledge prior. History is built upon layers and layers after all. As a fellow academic and Ramshackle resident, Cloche would be happy to study with Ellis— especially when the only other options in their class are… Ace, Deuce, and Grim.
• Never would Cloche have thought Ellis would be the one to capture Malleus’ heart. With this information, courtesy of “Binding Bells”, Cloche pays a little more attention to Ellis, and puts more effort into cooperating with her.
• Cloche is interested in Ellis’ fashion designs, and personal creations. Cloche is willing to help Ellis out, if she ever needs someone to do the backstitch so she can focus on the more complex parts of the project. If Ellis ever gives anything to Cloche, Cloche would always turn Ellis down unless she’s ordered to accept it.
“Master Ellis, I can’t just refer to you by name. I understand the formal title makes you feel a little… bad, but no can do. ”
Artemis
“Occasionally, Master Artemis and I would converse in Cat. She’s good, but… I don’t know if I want to speak with her more than I have to.”
• Someone to be respected. Cloche is amazed by how Artemis always seems to be smiling, albeit a little unsettling. Cloche is amazed by the mental fortitude Artemis would have to maintain that smile and lax nature. Cloche has no issue indulging Artemis in small talk, but her tail is always up— a sign a cat is on guard.
• If Cloche’ tail is raised around Artemis’ “usual” self, then expect her tail be whipping back and forth when Artemis is “on the hunt”. Cloche will try to stay away from Artemis, if she ever notices her in that state.
• Impressed by Artemis’ hair braiding. Cloche is curious of what other kinds of braids and styles she can do. Cloche would like to ask if Artemis would do her hair someday, but her embarrassment and sensitive ears hold her back!
• Whether it’s because Artemis is that good of a cook, or it’s because being part cat makes your body crave meat, Cloche would be happy to eat a meal made by her. The human! Cloche would only eat if she is offered, but feral/cat! Cloche is more inclined to go to Artemis herself. …In general, feral/cat! Cloche would approach Artemis without any qualms.
“Mrowwwr! A bird?! Oh… It’s just you, Master Artemis…”

Back at it again with more asks!
This time it’s with the merry men their opinions on their dormmate Artemis!
hopefully her…..questionable quirks don’t freak the two out!
Artemis is pretty darned cute, ngl. Bobby has a thing for tall women, so I have a feeling he'd spend a lot of time trying to impress them. He can kind of understand getting in the zone when she needs to focus; it's a lot like how he drops his own playful demeanor when he focuses on his archery, becoming deadly serious until his arrow hits its target. He would absolutely want to have Artemis on his side if it is at all possible! He'd even "suffer" through braids!
Jon is a bit more distant and distrustful. Somethin' about her doesn't seem to fit, to him. But he can respect someone who can whip up a field stew the way she can, honestly, as well as respecting her strength. And he might see them as a potential sparring partner for training!
So overall? I'd say Cautiously Friendly for the merry men, with Bobby being softer than Jon. :-3

🙈 for any of your ocs with any of my ocs!
Send 🙈 for a list of what my OC likes about yours!
Juniper's going to list what she likes about her dormie Artemis!
Artemis always makes such nice neat braids, so sometimes Juniper will ask her to braid hers if she really wants it to look fancy. She'll help Artemis out with astrology in return if she wants!
She and Artemis are probably two of the most cheerful members of Savanaclaw. Juniper has fun hanging out with her.
She thinks it's cool how Artemis can make different animal calls! Though she thinks her coyote howl could use a little work.
She's always impressed by good marksmanship, so Artemis will easily gain Juniper's admiration.
Moon-themed braid-wearing Sagittarius Savanaclaw peas in a pod! Juniper thinks she's cool.

Heyyyy Melanie😈
👁‍🗨 for Ellis and James, Odette and Metaron and maybe Melanie and Artemis!
Hewwo! there, right on it!! (picrews used here, here and here)
Tumblr media
"Ellis? Why do you ask, something happened with her? If so I wouldn't be that surprised. She somehow manages to cause some problem over there. Seriously, last time she missed up the paint of some roses and Riddle collared her for a week. She's crazy......but she's also really fun to be around. Plus she is kinda cute- shit. You didn't hear that from me!"
Tumblr media
"You mean that priss at NRC. Yeah I know her, not that I wanted to. She's annoying plain and simple. A brat who thinks she can stomp her feet and everyone will bow to her whims. I want nothing to do with her but Kira thinks she's pretty so......but if she whines about anything I'm leaving."
Tumblr media
"Miss Woodman? Oh yes I know her! She's........well a little intimidating. N- Not in a bad way!! Well....maybe a bit. She's from Savanaclaw and I've seen her carrying rabbits that she just hunted, she offered me but I said no. I really can't handle that kind of work. But she's nice like Jack and so strong too. I just wish I could approach her normally........"

White Thoroughbred Sodashi Named Japanese Champion Juvenile Filly for 2020
Sodashi (Kurofune - Buchiko, by King Kamehameha) made history by becoming the first white or “off color” thoroughbred to receive championship honors in Japanese flat racing, as well as the world, when she was unanimously voted as Best 2-Year-Old Filly for 2020 (283 votes).
Sodashi already made history by becoming the first white thoroughbred to win a Grade I race in Japan and the world when she won the Grade I Hanshin Juvenile Fillies in December (pictured above). She was undefeated in 2020, also winning the G III Artemis Stakes and G III Sapporo Nisai Stakes.
Sodashi is not the first white or off-color thoroughbred to win an internationally graded race, however. Her close relative Hayayakko (King Kamehameha) won the Grade III Leopard Stakes in 2019.
Sodashi is a descendant of Shirayukihime (Sunday Silence), a common ancestor of almost all white or off-color thoroughbreds in Japan. She is also a distant relative of 1991 Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes winner Hansel (Woodman) through Italian broodmare Milonga (Arco).

things I want to see:
a version of The Wizard of Oz that talks about the Tin Woodman’s entire backstory, or, like, mentions it at least and is also recent
a version of Howl’s Moving Castle where Howl’s secret identity is that he’s a programmer, although I’m p sure that a new adaption wouldn’t go over well on that one

June 2020 Books
The Tin Woodman of Oz, The Magic of Oz, and Glinda of Oz by L. Frank Baum (reread)
Finished reading these aloud, and while it turned out to be yet another endeavor that I cared more about than the (intended) audience did, it was a lot of fun revisiting these books.
The Secret Garden: The Cinematic Novel by Linda Chapman
Already discussed at length here.
Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer (reread)
Reread in a hurry because my sister was threatening to have us watch the movie together. We ended up not doing it, but I should continue rereading.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
Riveting. It was hard to tear myself from this trainwreck. The new POV was an extremely daring choice but worked well with what Collins seem to want to accomplish.
I was surprised, when I read reviews on Goodreads, that so many people apparently disliked the book. Most of the criticism seemed directed toward the choice of POV, because Collins had the audacity to tell the story of the villain of the trilogy. And I think this criticism misses the point. In telling the story from Coriolanus’s eyes, Collins is not invoking sympathy for someone who does and goes on to do objectively bad things. Instead, she is presenting someone who had been primarily the distant face of evil as human. Coriolanus is deeply flawed, but he still has a difficult past, a family, things he cares about, recognizable problems and struggles. And I think a lot of readers were not comfortable with that revelation. It’s much easier to regulate the face of evil to an “other” status, a monster, a being no longer human, something irretrievably different from ourselves. Because if such figures aren’t safely set apart in this category, we’re left with a painful truth: we too have the capacity for such evil under the required circumstances. Left to ourselves, we’re all a few terrible choices away from being "monsters” too. Collins’s narrative challenges the reader with this truth--reminds us just how close to home evil can be--that none of us can truly claim the smug assurance that we aren’t/would never be like those people.
False Colours by Georgette Heyer
I’ve only read one Heyer before (and liked it!), and maybe this wasn’t the best one to resume with. The premise had a lot of potential, as did the characters, but I got bogged down easily. Heyer has a gift for voice that recreates the feel of a Regency-era romance novel and for period detail--she’s obviously done her research, and it’s impressive!--but...so. much. Regency slang. It would have been effective in moderate quantities, but everyone seemed to be going out of their way to slather their dialogue with it at every possible opportunity--and would the upper-class have spoken so informally constantly? Nevertheless, I will persevere with Heyer.
Till We Have Faces by C. S. Lewis (reread)
I hadn’t read this one since I was a teenager and barely remembered it. This experience revealed more depth, and I have no words beyond it was brilliant.
Sunshield by Emily B. Martin
I didn’t love this one as much as I did the Creatures of Light series (among other things, Lark was a little difficult for me to warm up to), but it was still quite a page turner, with plenty of exciting twists (one I had already guessed after comparing some of Martin’s character illustrations, but otherwise I was quite surprised!) and well-written characters with complex dynamics. I am looking forward to the next one.
The Candymakers and The Candymakers and the Great Chocolate Chase by Wendy Mass (reread)
I have a long-standing affection for the protagonists of this series and their dynamic--which was enjoyable to revisit. The second book isn’t quite as strong (the POV device that was effective in the first book is less so here of necessity, and I’m not sure how I feel about some elements that pushed the world of the story in a more fantastic direction than I think the first book established) but does continue to develop the characters.
Anastasia and Her Sisters by Carolyn Meyer
I read Meyer’s fictional diary for Anastasia when I was a child obsessed with the Royal Diaries series it was part of, and I wanted to try this one--a revisiting of the story, more or less, for a slightly older audience--for old times’ sake. Considering how much attention was given in this narrative to Anastasia’s snooping in Olga’s diary, I got the sense that Meyer didn’t really want to write from Anastasia’s POV--or at least felt too restricted by it--and would have preferred the POV of the older sister who has developed a reputation for being the most insightful. This backhanded way of working in another POV wasn’t always effective for me, and I did wish that she had developed Tatiana and Maria more. Meyer’s Anastasia tends to be dismissive of them both and see them rather stereotypically (bossy older sister, and kindly but naively optimistic--as opposed to intelligent and insightful Olga and tomboyish Anastasia), which gave less of a sense of the closeness that existed between the sisters. I need to read Sarah Miller’s The Lost Crown, which I think handles the sisters’ relationship more deftly, without subtly pitting them against each other.
The Conference of the Birds by Ransom Riggs
As the middle book of a trilogy (sort of), suffers from feeling more transitional than a contained and eventful story in its own right, but it wasn’t bad. This series has never got me invested in the romance, and the introduction of a love triangle that doesn’t seem to serve much purpose beyond Drama isn’t helping, but the worldbuilding is as creative and intriguing as ever.
The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Riddle of Ages by Trenton Lee Stewart (reread)
As enjoyable as the rest of the series and a good reread. Stewart transitions his characters into their teen years well. He keeps the book at a middle-grade level (no romance, and any crushes the Society develops on each other are said to have been set aside to avoid ruining their friendship--which I appreciated so much) without resorting to switching to the POV of a new, younger character (as Jeanne Birdsall did to disappointing effect in the Penderwicks conclusion). There is a new younger character, but he functions more as someone for the older kids to protect and mentor than a replacement for their younger selves.
The Boy Who Lost Fairyland by Catherynne M. Valente (reread)
I preferred this one to the third book. It was refreshing to have a new protagonist (nothing against September, of course), and the setting and culture of Valente’s Fairyland worked well into a more defined plot with fewer digressions that kept up a good momentum.
The Sunbird by Elizabeth E. Wein (reread)
I hadn’t reread this one in years. Like others of Wein’s I’ve read, it’s beautifully written and profound--and painful.
