Day 20: Baba Yaga’s chicken hut. I was in an illustrative mood, so yinz get a chicken hut. Not gonna lie, it felt good to put my illustrator hat on for a minute. Days 10-12: aside from a doodle I left at work on Friday, this weekend has been me chipping away at this sketchbook entry from last summer. Playing with ghosts and changing of the seasons. Ain’t this world just magical? It is, that was a rhetorical question. 👽 Bringing ghosts back into my work has been the most delightful of challenges. Though to be honest, they never left. #art #artwork #artistsoninstagram #artoftheday #artqueensdailychallenge100 #artqueens #artqueensdaily #sketch #sketchbook #watercolor #mixedmedia #womenartists #femaleartist #pittsburghartist #appalachia #appalachianartist #nature #naturelovers #arte #doitfortheprocess (at Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnuyEdCPZSv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Day 8: more of my Tree Spirits. 🌲 If you follow my personal account, then you know the origin of these beautiful creatures. If not, I’ll tell ya: The Tree Spirits pay homage to three great Pines outside of my home when I was small. They were right outside my bedroom window, protecting the house and me inside. I talked to them, made brooms from their needles, and pulled sap out of my hair. Their cones always smelled the best, and their stories, even sweeter. These trees had to be cut down when we got a new house (the true beauty of growing up in a mobile home is that you can get a new house and plop it right down where your old house was- easy peasy), as it was larger than the old one. The stumps still remain, and I still talk to them sometimes. (Peep the 3rd pic for some stump time.) Digging into my roots (lol) has really helped me embrace myself- a story teller, letting these hills talk through my hands. & about 15 raccoons in a trench coat. 🦝 I wouldn’t have it any other way. #art #artist #artwork #artistsoninstagram #artoftheday #artqueensdailychallenge100 #artqueens #appalachia #appalachianart #appalachianartist #applachianartworks #treespirits #pines #pinetrees #roots #rainbowhematite #magic #appalachianmagic #applachianwitchcraft #fineart #visualart #pennsylvania (at Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnlQUbxtXZL/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🎨 Notes: You may have noticed a lot of in-progress work for this 100-day challenge I’m doing- Yip. That’s the point. 💅🏻💅🏻 I want to be extra prolific this year and create a variety of pieces that are attainable and affordable for a variety of audiences, as well as fun and fulfilling for me to make. No really- that’s my main goal this year. If I don’t enjoy what I’m making, I’m painting over it and starting again. I am slowly planning a show for June, and want a few large pieces peppered in with snapshots upon snapshots of small works. Variety is the spice of life (as well as the best way to keep my brain interested, tbh). #art #artqueens #artqueensdaily #artqueensdailychallenge100 #makearteveryday #dailyart #artoftheday #artist #artwork #artistsoninstagram #inprogressart #wip #painting #oilpainting #contemporaryart #contemporarypainting #paintings #landscapepainting #magic #natureart #landscape #pittsburghartist #pennsylvaniaartist #appalachia #appalachian (at Atithi Studios) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnfYbyUvTWC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

For day 4 of the 100-day art challenge, I decided to think a little more on childhood- more specifically, mine. 💅🏻 I feel like millennials may be the last generation of kids that actually had to deal exclusively with wildly dangerous playground equipment- this isn’t a “kids these days have it easy” post, either. I don’t believe in shaming people younger than me because I’m jealous that they have it better- we definitely needed safer shit. 🤣 The dicey stuff still exists, but there’s definitely safer things out there. In this little doodle that will absolutely become a painting after I play with it some more, I have three of my favorite things to play on- 1) the spaceship twirly thing that we had no business climbing on top of while it was moving, but did anyway. 2) the dangly gymnastics rings- because hanging upside down until you nearly pass out is necessary when you’re 7 and full of sugar. 3) the seesaw/teeter totter/whatever you wanna call it. I got a fat lip in 2nd grade from one of these when a friend hopped on the other side with another friend, flinging me over the handle bar onto my face on the wood. 😂 My upper lip still isn’t even. But damn, that was fun. Ps- any of my Punxsutawney elder millennials remember that awful slide/clown mouth thing at Harmon Field that was so rusted out we were sure to have gotten tetanus at some point? Nah? I distinctly remember my dad yelling “watch out, the rust can cut ya!” Before sliding down that thing. Yeesh. 🤣😂 Anyway thanks for reading pls comment a 📺 emoji if you read this far. #art #artistsoninstagram #artqueensdailychallenge100 #artqueens #doodle #sketch #sketchbook #sketching #playground #nostalgia #childhood #freerangekids #rust #appalachia #appalachianart #appalachianartist #womenartists #femaleartist #pennsylvania #memories (at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnbAnWLtq4L/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

👽 day 3 doodles: my childhood home (well, one of them). My parents divorced when I was 5, so I always thought I was super lucky for having two homes (plus grandma’s house- that’s 3, clearly I won 😂). This is my dad’s house- just a little sketch on this panel that used to have a moon on it. I made the moon with a metallic paint marker, so the oil isn’t sticking to the side- but that’s the best part. I didn’t care about archival quality, because sketches don’t have to be masterpieces. We don’t have to monetize everything we create. That’s where magic is found- in the bits that aren’t permanent. Thanks for sticking around for the whole ramble- if you made it this far, comment a 👽 emoji! #art #artqueensdailychallenge100 #100dayartchallenge #painting #makearteveryday #creativehappylife #doitfortheprocess #oilpainting #contemporaryart #contemporarypainting #womenartists #femaleartist #appalachia #appalachianartist #theartqueens #artqueen #creativehabit #makingart #pittsburghartist (at Atithi Studios) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnYUPXTtsG3/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🍄 today is one of those days where my ADHD pushes me to not want to focus on anything but the potential for a lunch break nap 🤣 To challenge myself, I found some binaural beats on YouTube and did a little art meditation with, -shocker- some trees, on watercolor paper with a random pen from staples- you know, just things in my desk.🌲 This was a great exercise in flow and focus, and gave me the time I needed to conserve spoons for my afternoon. I’m finding that this 100 day @theartqueens art challenge is more than just a way for me to make on the daily- it’s a new way to get to know myself, and I like that. 🥹 #art #artqueensdailychallenge100 #artqueens #artqueensdaily #drawing #illustration #penandink #ballpointpen #womenartists #femaleartist #appalachia #appalachianartist #nature #landscapedrawing #ink #quartz #quartzpoint #crystals #pittsburghartist #doodle #artchallenge #100daysofpractice #100daysofart (at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnUyZVHJr5f/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
