Song Review: Moonalice feat. Ray Benson - “Am I High?”
The question is rhetorical. But Moonalice leaves no doubt as to the answer on “Am I High?”
The stand-alone single features Asleep at the Wheel’s Ray Benson as the band gets a jump on 4/20:
Am I high?/my mouth sure is dry/I just keep laughing til I cry/asking myself, ‘am I high?’
Though the lyrics suggest a novelty, the music - languid, swinging-like-a-pendulum jazz - suggests otherwise. The composition is utterly serious making the words that much sillier.
But as ridiculous as it is, “Am I High?” is a tightly rolled number every listener should light in to.

Bond actor rescues Bond girl actress
For the final day of shooting the boat chase scene in Scotland, the actors are told to be there early at 6:00 AM. It was a rainy morning; around 5:00 AM while the actors are being driven to their location, Daniela Bianchi’s driver falls asleep at the wheel and crashes; the vehicle turns over several times and lands in a gorge about 15 feet above a river. Sean Connery, who had been following in another car, helps to pull his co-star out of the wreck. Fortunately, Bianchi was safe (although her face was swollen and they had to delay shooting her scenes for 2 weeks).

“THIRTY DAYS FOR DRUNKEN DRIVING,” Brantford Expositor. March 11, 1930. Page 2.

Clayton Young Found in Drunken Sleep at the Wheel
----
Clayton Young, 53 Murray street, will do 30 days in jail. The man was convicted this morning of driving a car while intoxicated. M.C.O. Geo. Kerr, P. C. Rutherford and P. C. Lindop gave evidence, the defendant not going in the box. The police swore that while passing the corner of Alfred and Colborne streets, in the police patrol, Saturday night, they noticed the man fast asleep behind the wheel of a coupe. They shook him up and noted he was under the influence of liquor. The car at the time had been parked on the boulevard on Alfred street, the accused having the keys in his hand, which he afterwards transferred to his pocket. Lindop swore that, earlier in the evening, he had seen Young turn the corner, at Market and Colborne street, this evidence assuring the court that the accused had driven the car.
F. E. D. Wallace, for the defense, argued that his client was not in care of or control of the car when the police arrived. He quoted previous cases to prove his contention. The court complimented the legalite on his clever and ingenious defense, but thought that the case was quite clear. He asked for the man's record. The police intimated that he had just finished a jail term for assaulting the police. The court then passed sentence.

Stampede
Soundly Music
The Shootouts never expected to engage in this level of glittering hoedown showdown, and certainly not so quickly following the success of their 2021 Top 10 Americana album, Bullseye. But they could not get out of the way of this Stampede, certainly not with Ray Benson driving it. The renowned Asleep at the Wheel founder was suitably enough impressed by the…
