he’s honestly not sure how it started. his childhood was fine, relatively speaking - he didn’t kill anyone and when his dad beat him his meemaw took him up into the mountains to live with her. he finished school, wasn’t interested in college, just kept helping with meemaw’s chickens and b&b. he wasn’t social, but he didn’t need to be. so what if the only people he talked to were old women; at least they were nice to him.

this is how things were until matt discovered the internet. he wasn’t unfamiliar before, he just didn’t care, until one day meemaw asked him to help her set up a website. he learned how to use templates, then learned html programming, then continued to upgrade their internet connection as he discovered white-hat hacking. he took to it like a duck to water. at first just little things - testing out university back-end security, that kind of thing - then before he knew it he was subleasing a contract for the fbi to test their security. meemaw didn’t ask what he was up to until he stopped sleeping and started showing up to greet guests haggard and bedraggled, nails bitten and hair uncombed. he didn’t have the heart to tell her he’d gotten in over his head.

he’d never even heard of los santos before he got scouted for a job though. someone he thought he trusted, someone who had been giving him jobs that were darker and darker, someone who used him to cover their own ass not caring what that did to him. he didn’t understand gang politics, didn’t know the ramifications, he just knew there was a lot of money going places it shouldn’t and they weren’t doing a very good job of hiding it. he thought it was over when the job was over. when three dangerous men came for meemaw, he knew it would never be over.

you guys have terrible security, he says, unaware of the danger he’s putting himself in. he’s saved meemaw, outrun the first group after him, thinks he’s found a group that could help him with everyone else. besides, do you want help fixing that?

Any Matt headcannons in FAHC?

- Axial was an unknown to the crew for a long time. He helped them here and there, a reliable source, but they never actually met him.

- He knew and helped both the starting crew along with the others (Rimmy Tim, The Sause etc) before they even joined the crew.

- With this long loyatly, Geoff eventually reached out and got him to join more properly, as they worked closer with Axial once Jeremy joined.

- Matt is a jack of all trades, good at planning, behind the scene work, hacking and technology, and being on the front line.

- His only weaknesses are stealth missions and getting distracted quiet easily. Some would argue he’s even worse than Gavin at times, because at least Gavin hyper fixates somtimes.

- He’s their unofficial babysitter, dealing with their bs constantly and just continuing through it, but he does truely care about both the main crew and the B team.

- He spends his free time gaming, and challanging the others to games constantly.

- Being a jack of all trades, he has helped patch up the team more times than he can count. He helps with as much as possible, stitching them up and setting bones so they don’t have to call others in. It’s his least favourite part of the job.

- When he gets hurt he plays it up a lot after its dealt with, relaxing and getting the others to do EVERYTHING for him. It’s his one break from their constant and he will relish in it as much as he can. Though by the time he’s back working, while he’ll never admit it, he always ends up missing them.

So I have this FAHC or Battle Buddies AU where essentially the battle buddies are called battle buddies because they work for a super shady company and do highly illegal and high risk jobs and somehow survive through skill and dumb luck.

No one knows though that the battle buddies aren’t just the two people who go on missions, known as Vagabond and Rimmy Tim, and also consist of a hacker who goes by Axial who helps out the two other Battle Buddies privately.

Problem, no one knows that. As in, Vagabond and Rimmy Tim also don’t know that.

I mean, sure they have worked with the guy. Hell, he is on the call almost 24/7 walking them through their missions. But still, like, that’s all he is. He researches shit for them, finds floorplans and easy escapes, but that’s all he does.

I mean, they are friends with him too. But he’s just quiet and awkward and kind and just really fucking weird. And he is secretive as fuck. They don’t even know his real name, despite him knowing theirs.

And so when Axial hears a building that the battle buddies need to go into is wired to explode, Axial knows his Buddies won’t refuse the job. They won’t fucking care.

So Axial contacted a local gang, some big high up one, told them to distract those two and to not hurt them. And the Gang listened.

That became a common thing, Axial contacted local Gangs, such as The Roosters, The Fake Achievement Hunter Crew, Fakehaus, The Derp Crew, and more.

So when Axial is kidnapped and the remaining Battle Buddies are refused help by their shady company, they quit. And they have to work with this other group, The FAHC, to get back their friend.

They also discover a fuckload of secrets.
