im going to post my thoughts here too... Genuine thoughts to the UC changes. From my perspective. For context i own 16 ucs, that i have gotten via trades, gifts and adoption apps. My first UC, given to me as gift, to trade (which i kept) in March 2019. I have 1 VWN UC the rest are DN -> VBN name formated. To put it out there. I think im okay with this.

My UCs i havnt owned for as long some other folks around for sure, and honestly in the time that ive been trading the announcement that UCs are "coming back" in some form had been around since 2021. So my PC trading period had been spent more in the years leading upto this release vs not.

Trading for UCs was honestly a blast, ive met so many cool people and made many friends over the years. Many whom i speak on a daily basis still. Though it was tough. It was had as fuck. When you start with nothing (i joined neo my first account april 2008. 1 year after conversion) there were so many points in time where i wanted to quit and give up and just convert my UCs pound them and close my accounts. I trained like 5 pets to lv 250 1500hsd. To trade into ucs with. I timer trained with NC training cookies, had FQCs going aswell and ruined my sleep schedual for months. Just to have the quickest outcome to jump into UCs again to work toward the goal of the cat clowder. I dont regret it. And pending on the price of the NC tokens for the upcoming UCs release, i could wager i have spent more NC on training and quest cookies to BD train pets to break into UCs with VS what the tokens will cost. But i had fun doing it! And updating the friends at the time with the progress and where i was going with it!

Honestly i would never wish upon anyone to do the grind to work for an UC it was all consuming (an addictive personality doesnt help here lol) I cannot even bring myself to train pets now, like i have had Sprinkle since Nov 2019 she had lv100 and 300hsd when i first got her. I only got her to lv250 late last year. And shes ment to have been my main BD this whole time. The burnout of the grind was so real. And the struggle and obsessive hours spent trying to work toward a funny little creature. So yeah i dont wish it on anyone. I wish for it to be easier for folks to get their cool art pet, bc not everyone has been as lucky as me to get UCs.

I see alot of folks saying as soon as they get the token they will be pounding their less then VWN UCs in favour of a name they create etc. Which is so valid for starters. But idk the BN names have so much charm. And ppl talk abt UCs liking the nostalgia factor with this change, But like the nostalgia factor could also b the name too. Like SprinkleWinkles is so cute. DN by PC standards. Stinky_minky_2004 has so much funny charm but BN. I wanna know what was stinky in 04 for a kid to make this pet. Love_u_4ever like i just have the name nostalgia w them. I choose my UCs for the names first. Theyre all just funny and make me smile. But the other way is so valid too. Im not discrediting that either. And old pets get a trophy too. Im assuming if theyre older than conversion so april 27th 2007. Which isnt a bad thing!

Idk ive waffled on. But i think im happy w the change and UCs being more accessible. Esp if theyre going to be at a good price point, which a comment from tnt ivy saying she was "plesently surprised" with the price from her as a PCer player whos going to buy them. Going to be providing critical but constructive feedback on thin lined UCs as they come out though cause those will likely be the most changed UCs.

Ive been so done with UC trading for years. And im so ready to get my final 3 UC cats and complete my clowder x3 And im so ready to see other folks get their goal UCs and funky lil pets

Oh no I know they already dropped him but I meant why they dropped him. The style of the comic book was very fnaf or maybe a better term would be “kiddie horror” it’s a style obviously meant for children (and possibly also to be done quickly) which despite having a primary audience of literal children I don’t think is what derek wants for the series.

Specially when compared to what appears in the grimoir.

Haha, ok so here is the thing. I put on my conspiracy theory tin foil head in a private chat and was like "imagine if Landy kicked PJ Holden bc he didn't like sharing the the spot light" bc Holden did get to be at some signings alongside Landy and sign stuff too.

But then I watched the Forbidden Planet TV interview and omg I think that theory is actually correct??? I even feel like this interview is what was the biggest reason for Holden to get gone. The interviewer was clearly far more interested in Holden than Landy and you could see how bitter Landy was about it, like, he wasn't hiding it at all.

So here are my notes from that interview below the cut bc it got kinda long:

These were written before I got the ask, so I just wrote down stuff that got my attention in the order they showed up instead of just stuff relating to this ask.

Landy's cat is named Groomer. [Fitting]

The interviewer is more focused on Holden than Landy in the beginning.

Holden and Landy were following each other on Twitter but had barely spoken. It just happened that about the time Holden was open for more work, Landy got the OK for an SP comic. So Holden getting hired was a coincidence.

We have it confirmed that the SP comic only got the OK from HarperCollins bc the "Heartstopper" comic was successful and now every publisher wants a comics department. SP/Landy were chosen as their first graphic novel bc Landy already had comic experience writing for Marvel.

"Bad Magic" takes place in the middle of the gap between book 15 and 16. It's a 6-year gap, so that's 3 years after UtE.

Originally the plot of the comics was going to be intertwined with the books. He MIGHT still do that. But for now comic readers should be able to follow the plot of the comics without having to read the books.

Landy is certain the book readrs will read the comic bc "they are hooked".

The interviewer doesn't ask follow-up questions about what Landy just said. Instead moves to Holden and compliments his creature design then asked him how it was to handle pre-establed characters like Skul and Val.

Holden: everybody sees a different version of Skul in their heads since he hasn't really been physically represented apart from covers and tie in merch [aka contradicts himself]. The challenge was making him emote since visually that's harder than just writing it [unfortunately the video did not show Landy's face at that part]. Valkyrie is a harder character to get right apparently.

Holden got little notes for all the monster designs. Apparently, there were histories to each monster but they didn't really get into that. [surprising, I thought the designs were random tbh]

[this segment starts at 23:31] Landy was unprepared for the comic thus Holden didn't get the whole script at once. It's implied Landy was still writing chapters while Holden had already started drawing the pages. So on Landy's request he had to go back and edit previous pages to make "tiny alterations". At some point "they" told Holdens they needed an extra page in every chapter bc they needed the page turn to be on a certain page since they hadn't taken into account that every chapter break would be a page. Landy sent a panicked Email to HarperCollins to suggest putting in an extra page. At that point they were already halfway through. Fortunately they could use a 'moment' from each chapter and expand it over the corresponding chapter break page.

=> AKA the comic was badly planned.

Landy says he doesn't know how well his books sell (in this particular case BD) bc he will be disappointed if it doesn't meet his expectations. He doesn't even follow sport, named the example on refusing to watch a rugby match with Ireland's team bc he doesn't "do disappointment". He "hasn't got a clue how they are doing". [a lie so he doesn't have to disclose the sales are bad? or is he really that immature?]

He thinks the readers have embraced "Bad Magic".

Interviews says their (Holden and Landy) creative chemistry was good and the artworks and designs were brilliant, once again praising Holden more than Landy.

Holden seemed more excited about the comic. It was well visible behind him the entire time and in the end, he showed it off excitingly. Landy did not display such enthusiasm.

Landy was giving death glares every time Holden got attention instead of him. He seemed really unhappy here when Holden tried to include him in the conversation.

I guess Landy hopes rotating artists will prevent the artist(s) from outshining him. But I do worry it will cause him to choose an bad artist on purpose. I could see him tanking his own series for petty ego reasons, believing his writing alone is good enough to save the comics. Not how comics work. Also his writing is shit and gets worse with each new book, so there is that.

😯 I answered something like this just a bit ago so Ill share just my own random hcs this time!

1. P1 has a special interest in g*ns, wolves, aquatic animals/creatures, technology, and a interest in gaming tho it’s not as much as those others.

2. P2 special interests are g*ns, krotchy, and shows like the twilight zone. He likes old horror movies :)

3. P3 is online a lot when he has free time. That’s why he says so many stupid internet things in postal 3. He has that poster of a cat that says “just hang in there” 💀 he has some online friends and a small following.

4. P4 gets really bad aches and pains but still goes out and does his usual stuff when he probably shouldn’t :( but he feels bad when he isn’t out doing things for a while. Someone needs to tell him it’s okay to take a break.

5. Corkscrew lovessss all the different pdudes. He tells them all he is here to protect them :,) his favorite pdudes are p1, p2, and Poostall dude but he won’t admit that bc he doesn’t wanna hurt the other dudes feelings.

6. Alt Pdudes are soooo in love with their other version of themselves it’s crazy. Alt bd loves bd and redux loves p1 even tho he’s soo mean to p1.

7. P1 wants to be Poostall dudes friend so bad when they first meet since they r both kinda fall into the ‘younger’ pdudes group. P1 went like •_• when he first saw Poostall and Poostall was like 🤨. But they soon became really close and Poostall sleeps over sometimes. P1 becomes noticeably a bit happier having a friend like him around. He’s probably awkwardly hugged him before out of nowhere bc he appreciates him so much.

8. The only pdude not into rock or metal is Corkscrew. He likes fun party music and pop. He will tell the other pdudes to turn their music down if he’s with them.

9. The pdudes I picture having the most ‘normal’ parents are p3, Doe, movie dude, and corkscrew.

10. P4 doesn’t mind helping Poostall dude out with his own aggression and whatnot. (P4 feels the same about helping out p1 but everyone knows I think that 💀) He really cares for Poostall dude and wants to try to steer him in the right direction the best he can

ANITA !!!! aaahhh ok so i’ve been super busy these past few weeks so i’m just catching up on buddy daddies ep 9&10 now and!!!! I NEED TO SCREAM ABOUT IT TO SOMEONE!!!

ok first of all, any kind of sports day/festival episode in an anime is my absolute favourite and this one did not disappoint !!! i was literally smiling like an idiot the entire episode because of how into it kazuki and rei were, like rei sneaking into the school the night before so he could get the best seats in the front???? the cutest thing i’ve ever seen HELP OTL and rei getting all depressed because he tried to cheer on miri and accidentally made her trip ??? you’re telling me this man is an cold blooded assassin?? gsbshagsjshsk except i have to admit i fully sobbed at the end when miri had to find “family” for the scavenger hunt and she got her papas!!! i was crying just like kazuki in that scene T^T

but ohhh my god episode 10….. this one hurt so bad!!! of course at this point we know that kazuki and rei love miri and that they’ve grown used to this little family of theirs, but in this episode it really hit them of HOW MUCH of a family they really are and it’s really shattering my heart to see this family break up just when they’re all starting to be happy together T^T i loved kazuki taking miri and rei out for one last fun day together it was so sweet but the entire time i was only thinking about how they’ll have to say goodbye to their little miri soon…. i’m so anxious about what’s gonna happen next i just hope that these 3 will have a happy ending…. but i have a feeling we’re in for a bit more hurt :’[ do you have any theories for this show?? i’d be interested in hearing them if you do!!!

ahhhhhh sunny i'm so glad you've caught up with the episodes!! i should've warned you how emotional these last two episodes were, i'm sorry!! but i'm so glad you enjoyed them :')

ep 9 was soooo silly and fun! i also love festival/sports day episodes and i knew kazuki was gonna be competitive as hell but it was so nice seeing rei be just as supportive and protective! i cracked up when he also wanted to kill that lil boy for getting to close to miri lol but i was also crying at his face when he made miri fall and when he realized miri gave him the "family" paper! rei's just stepped up so much (like the cereal onigiri OTL) and is really allowing himself to be emotional and i'm glad kazuki doesn't pressure him to change, that it's coming naturally bc rei genuinely cares for this lil family he has :')

and ep 10..... oh you don't understand how much i was BAWLING my eyes out over it!!! right when we see rei and kazuki open up to be a family and start anew, it all has to come crashing down OTL kazuki trying to lighten the mood by having one last fun day was precious, but then it got to the ferris wheel ride and i couldn't see past my tears bc it was so bittersweet! and then realizing that kazuki wrapping the scarf is a direct parallel to the cat in the first episode?!? i honestly don't want to make many theories bc i don't want to get my hopes up.... but i wish that it all ends with a happy ending. i think this show has been v successful so i wouldn't be surprised if they had an ova/movie in the works? if they do, then i can see it ending bittersweetly, like miri stays with her mom but comes visit kazuki and rei still, but then the ova goes into eliminating rei's family so there isn't any threat to miri anymore and then they can all live together? i'm not sure what's gonna happen with miri's mom though... like i don't want her dead lol but if she leaves again i feel like that would hurt miri a lot :( UGH it's all so sad to think about! but no matter what, they've all changed bc they've met each other and their one year together will always make them a family! <3 if you have any theories let me know!!!

I love the Ghost Hunters AU and I really want more of Salem. Especially Salem with the Milkovich siblings.

🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 thank you. ive always wanted a black cat named either princess or salem and i thought it would make sense since its a ghost hunter au (even tho i skipped over all the ghost stuff so my post wasnt a million words long) with terry not around i feel like the milkoviches would love playing with animals. Salem is a very adventurous, people-loving cat! you know, the kind of cat people say were a dog in their past life. of course she loves the gallaghers too! even carl makes a point to be nice to her (after, when she was a kitten, ian beat him up for making a joke) but the milkoviches dont really get to show affection ever, so they love getting to play with her and scratch her lil belly and give her treats they stole from the pet store. they all adore her but ofc after ian and mickey get together and he comes over to the gallaghers a shitton, mickey becomes her 2nd dad. he goes to the top of her favorite people list. nobody else plays with her the way he does! hes not afraid to get a little rough, but he knows whats signs to look out for when a cat is not playing/irritated. shes still young and she loves playing!! imagine toddlers who like getting thrown around because its fun, shes like that. she gets kicked out and put in a different room when they fuck, and she uses this time to get in as much trouble as possible, knock shit over, and annoy anyone else in the house. ALSO she LOVES liam!! they literally grow up together and fiona teaches him how to treat animals so by the time hes like 5, she moves from sleeping with ian to sleeping with liam

i imagined ian and mandy meeting at the same time, so when salem is 2 that would be s3 ish. when he first found her, ian had just started his job and scrounged up every penny he could find to take her to a low cost clinic to get spayed and vaxxed. other than being skinny and dehydrated (and ofc separated from her mom as a kitten) she was in surprisingly good shape! now shes so used to being spoiled by everyone! ian LOVES taking care of others and being of service so he really found a home in Salem, treating her like his kid and giving her the best life possible. i definitely think once he gets diagnosed with BD, he pays (with mostly mickeys money lbr) for her to be his emotional support animal and takes her to as many pet friendly places at possible!

like i said she becomes kinda the mascot of the ghost hunting youtube channel they eventually start. its not something they see as a career or anything, they do it as a hobby, but they gain decent attraction and make extra money on the side from ads and a few brand deals. ofc Salem is the reason everyone watches the channel 🙄 she's in pretty much every video, and they chose her as their icon bc 1. black cat spooky duh 2. she brought them together 🥺 3. she really does show up A LOT in videos, especially when they're not urban exploring/hunting and at home recording the historical backgrounds and debriefings for each location. also yes they do urban exploring as well, thats mainly mickey and mickey and whatever milkovich wants to tag along and graffiti an abandoned building. imagine a combination of The Watcher and Dan Bell (omfg now im imagining them doing Another Dirty Room???? 😭 they would be so offended at paying money for rooms worse than their own back in the southside) but with less production value

Is it just me or did Edward's looks shift drastically from one movie to another? It seems kinda weird that Edward from twilight is the same Edward in eclipse and bd. The makeup in the latter movies did him no favors really, he was gorgeous in the first movie. Do you think it was intentional to alter his makeup? And why did they not mantain the look of the first movie? Robert Pattinson himself didn't change much looks wise from the first movie to the last. It seems like no one notices this (1/2)

So I think that in twilight, since it was an indie film, edward’s styling was more minimal... he was meant to look sort of boyish and handsome, sure, but to some extent... sort of “real”? like a pretentious high schooler with a jawline sharp enough to use in battle, but still sort of believable as a person at home in a high school cafeteria. to me, this is the most authentic edward, because edward in the books is fun and sassy and somewhat down to earth (even if he is overbearing). i think they probably also didn’t have the budget to do anything dramatic with his styling.

but then the movie was an overnight smash hit and the next movies had these HUGE budgets and people suddenly realized edward was this heartthrob... and i think there was this effort to make edward this sort of... idk... Everything Boyfriend. The Marty Stu of boyfriends. he had to be serious and masculine enough to appeal to the large contingent of soccer mom fans, otherworldly enough to make the monsterfuckers happy, dark enough to appease the emo girls. his styling became a lot older and more masculine, and i DO think that was intentional. it might also have been an attempt to make him more appealing to (potential) male fans-- and you can see the movies attempting to court a male audience, in the way they focus so much on the battles and war-like drama and honestly so little on tender romantic moments or lighthearted cullen shenanigans. plus, arguably, the way they cast the wolf pack and had them parading around shirtless all the time and tearing apart vampires was much more “male power fantasy” and less “female romantic daydream”. so i think that edward became more serious and masculine in both writing and styling in later movies to court that male audience (and counter his floofy, girly, sparkly, “gay” image) and honestly it’s a shame. it was the sassy, lighthearted edward of the books that the audience really fell in love with (and adored about the first movie-- -everyone loves the edward jumping on bella’s car scene, the “is the even italian scene”, the “cat” scene, and the whole first movie more than the rest) so it was disappointing to see later directors abandon that in favor of a supposedly more universally appealing, masculine, dark edward. but i like pretty boys, so i’m biased. 

i will say, there are 2 edward styling decisions that i will never forgive slade or condon for and they are 1- edward’s sideburns in eclipse (g r o s s and weird and plot-inconsistent) and 2- edward’s makeup at the wedding-- honestly he looks deathly ill to me, insanely pale with these bright red lips that look like he’s just been coughing up blood, and i don’t even know what was going on with his eyes. the whole thing is just hideous. 

my friend and i are watching movies on twoseven.xyz -- it’s been working really well for us! if one of you has a file of the movie you want to watch, the other person can stream it from you, and it’s the only site i’ve found that allows that and consistently works. but i also physically gave my friend all my twilight movie files (yay SD cards) so it’s often less glitchy if you both have the same file and the site can just sync it. (with other friends, i have us both torrent the same file to save time) but i really like the site and it’s been working great for us, and you can chat while you watch the movie (via message, audio, or video), and either of you can pause/rewind/whatever the movie and that’s pretty much all we need lol. and it’s free, which is important bc my broke ass doesn’t like paying for shit.

Heres some adorable distractions! In the everyone lives au, cal is everyones security blanket. Hes really huggable, okay? And after a while, cal noticed a few of his most worn ponchos are gone. Confused, and a little worried, he goes to the living area to look around. Just to find trilla and merrin bundled up in his ponchos on the couch, napping. Even BD got his hands on one and is currently making a little nest for himself, happily chirpping. Cal doesnt bring it up, it was too adorable.

BD-1 IN A PONCHO NEST IM- Friend this is by far the most wholesome ask I could ever receive, thank you so much for opening my eyes to this glory.

But also consider: Cal who knows from experience how comforting and warm his ponchos are (sure, Trilla, they’re not the most fashion-forward clothing items, but they’re useful and dynamic!!) and seeing say, Trilla, asleep at the kitchen table amongst all the notes she’s been compiling on the empire. Its late in the sleep cycle so its cold and dark and sleep space is limited and waking Trilla is. Not Smart bc Trauma, and she’s still very proud. So instead Cal takes his Least Hideous (by Trillas standards) poncho and drapes it over her shoulders while she sleeps.

Cere taking a quick cat nap at her chair in the cockpit and Cal putting his warmest poncho over her lap bc its the coldest part of the Mantis.

Merrin waking from a nightmare and Cal wrapping her up in a devastating Poncho + Hug Combo until she passes out again on his shoulder!!!

Even Greeze wakes up buried in a poncho when he passes out in the captains chair after a stressful lightspeed escape from imperial forces.

For my own amusement, I started tracking how the songs from the Billboard Hot 100 from this week in 1974 have been used in movie soundtracks. Feature Films only people! As you read, you will see the “gimmes” that made me think of the idea, but I’m putting this behind a cut because there ended up being so many which had a soundtrack match. As a reminder, you can follow along as I do the Hot 100 each week corresponding to which classic AT40 and VJ Big 40 get played on SiriusXM ‘70s on 7 and ‘80s on 8 respectively with my ever-changing Spotify playlist. 

100. “Beyond the Blue Horizon” - Lou Christie. This one is a cheat because when I looked it up on Spotify it showed up on the Rain Man soundtrack. The only song I could have told you off the top of my head was in Rain Main is the Belle Stars’ version of “Iko Iko.” Rain Man marked the first soundtrack appearance for Christie’s version. 

98. “The Air That I Breathe” - The Hollies. Very memorable appearance in The Virgin Suicides, which had the score done by, wait for it, French electronica duo Air. The song would go on to be heard in other movies. 

90. “Billy Don’t Be a Hero” - Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods. The Paper Lace version appears in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Both acts topped the charts with the song on opposite sides of the pond: Paper Lace in the UK and Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods in the US. [Update: the BD&H version may be in "To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday"] 

87. “Hollywood Swinging” - Kool & the Gang. This oft-sampled track first appeared in a feature film in the 2005 Get Shorty sequel Be Cool. 

84. “La Grange” - ZZ Top. Armageddon first, followed by others. 

68. “Band on the Run” - Paul McCartney and Wings.  I didn’t search for this at first because I didn’t think there would be anything, but then Jet was on the chart at #27, so I did a twofer search on imdb. Jet has not been in any films (save “One Hand Clapping, a rockumentary on Paul, which I don’t count for purposes of this discussion) but “Band on the Run” appears in The Killing Fields, in a shocking scene that contrasts the light tone of the pop song with the horrors of the Khmer Rouge’s executions of Cambodian citizens. 

66. “For the Love of Money” - The O’Jays. Has been used many times, according to IMDb the first feature film use was the Richard Pryor roman a clef (if I’m using that right, I only know it from Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man) Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling. 

59. “Rock Around the Clock” - Bill Haley and his Comets. Notably used in Blackboard Jungle, the song is on this 1974 chart for its appearance in American Graffiti. 

55. “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo” - Rick Derringer. First one that comes to mind is Dazed and Confused bc I had that soundtrack, but it has been in others.

49. “Love’s Theme” - the Love Unlimited Orchestra. The swirling strings of this song indicate that someone is indeed falling in love. That’s my way of saying, if you think you haven’t heard this, you have. Imdb has it in Mean Girls, among others. 

47. “The Way We Were” - Barbra Streisand. The titular song of the 1973 film The Way We Were, starring Barbra and Robert Redford. A little long, but worth a watch bc Barbra is amazing in it. At the 1974 Academy Awards, Marvin Hamslich won Best Original Song honors for this tune, and was awarded Best Original Dramatic Score for his other musical work on the film. I always think of Lisa Loopner’s big crush on him.  

44. “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” - Stevie Wonder. First feature film usage was the 1998 Eddie Murphy flop Holy Man, which surprised me as it’s such a good song, you’d think it would have been in something earlier. Notable given Eddie’s impression of Stevie Wonder he performed on SNL! 

42. “Rock On” - David Essex. Michael Damian’s cover (or remix as described by Patton Oswalt) was recorded for the 1989 2 Coreys classic Dream a Little Dream, and per imdb, David Essex’s original appears in the alternate-history comedy Dick, from 1999. 

37. “Oh Very Young” - Cat Stevens/Yusef Islam. Surprisingly, this sweet song appears in the gross-out bowling comedy Kingpin. 

36. “Jungle Boogie” - Kool & the Gang. This song may have been used in the most films and tv shows of any I’ve researched so far, but its first appearance was in Pulp Fiction. 

34. “The Payback - Part 1” - James Brown. First feature film appearance was in 1995′s Dead Presidents. A different James Brown track appears on the soundtrack for racist-ass Melly Gibson’s Payback from 1999. 

33. “Help Me” - Joni Mitchell.  Another why’d-it-take-ya-so-long shocker, this mellow tune first appeared in the 2018 sci-fi movie Kin, narrowly beating Welcome to Marwen from 2019. 

31. “The Entertainer” - Marvin Hamlisch. The title theme from the Redford/Newman team-up The Sting. Hamlisch won a record-tying third Academy Award in 1974 for Best Original Score for The Sting.  It seems at this time Best Original Score and Best Original Dramatic Score were separate categories. Hamlisch would win Grammys for both this and “The Way We Were,” eventually becoming an EGOT winner in 1995.

30. “Eres Tú” - Mocedades. This Spanish Eurovision entry notably appears in the buddy comedy Tommy Boy when Chris Farley and David Spade’s characters sing along with the radio. 

28. “Midnight at the Oasis” - Maria Muldaur. Catherine O’Hara and Fred Willard perform their own rendition in the Christopher Guest film Waiting for Guffman. That should be all you need, but imdb has the first film appearance for the song as 1995′s Falcon and the Snowman. 

24. “Let it Ride” - Bachman-Turner Overdrive. This lesser-known but not less great BTO jam has appeared in a handful of films, the first being Ash Wednesday, starring Elijah Wood and directed by Edward Burns and not Garry Marshall. Note: it does not seem to be in the Richard Dreyfuss gambling movie Let It Ride, a classic VHS cover of my youth. 

18. “Mockingbird” - James Taylor and Carly Simon. Memorably performed by Harry and Lloyd in the dog van in Dumb and Dumber, later joined by a Latinx family on guitar and vocals.  Before that, Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Chase’s characters also sang it on their road trip in National Lampoon’s Vacation. I couldn’t find an instance where James and Carly’s version played in a movie but I am sayin’ there’s a chance. That it could be someday. 

16. “Tubular Bells” - Mike Oldfield. This instrumental is best known for being the theme to The Exorcist, but I was surprised to learn from the Wiki entry that it was not written for the film. Tubular Bells or something that’s meant to sound like it has been in a ton of other things, generally uncredited. Of note: Mike Oldfield would go on to do the score for The Killing Fields. 

14. “Seasons in the Sun” - Terry Jacks. Now here is the type of song that ‘70s haters point to as an example of the whiny wuss rock that they feel over-dominated the era. It’s not one of my favorites but I appreciate it for how weird it is. I suppose being translated into English from a French/Belgian poem will do that to ya. Before I did my search, I imagined I would find it in a Farrelly Brothers movie or two, possibly the Anchorman sequel. However, the only feature film match I found was the 2002 indie flick Cherish, a movie I have never seen despite being confronted by the cover many times at rental places over the years. Before today, when I watched the trailer, I would have told you it starred Jennifer Love Hewitt and was about “a band trying to make it.” It turns out I am thinking of the 1999 film The Suburbans. Anyway Cherish seems aggressively indie and very of-its-time in a way that makes me want to watch it. 

13. “Dancing Machine” - The Jackson 5. The song appears in the Blaxploitation spoof I’m Gonna Git You Sucka, as well as the movie of Starsky & Hutch.

11. “Lookin’ For A Love” - Bobby Womack. This was in the movie of The Ladies Man starring Tim Meadows as his SNL character Leon Phelps. I almost skipped this one but I’m glad I didn’t because Tim Meadows rules.

8. “The Loco-Motion” - Grand Funk Railroad (the single and album it was on are credited to Grand Funk). We have our second song from the Kirsten Dunst/Michelle Williams movie Dick. Since that was satirizing Nixon and Watergate, well done to the filmmakers for including these 1974 hits!  It appeared in one earlier film, My Girl 2. 

5. “Come and Get Your Love” - Redbone. Known to modern listeners for appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy. [Sidebar: if you can find a way to listen to the With Special Guest Lauren Lapkus episode T.G.I.G.O.T.G.OST (Thank God It’s the Guardians of the Galaxy Original Soundtrack) with Sean Clements and Hayes Davenport, do it!] The song first appeared in Dance Me Outside, a Canadian film about First Nations youth, which is a cool parallel with Redbone being composed of Native American musicians. “Come and Get Your Love” is also in Dick! 

4. “Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me” - Gladys Knight & the Pips. Another SNL feature pops up on our list, 1994′s It’s Pat: The Movie. 

3. “Hooked on a Feeling” - Blue Swede. ALSO known to modern listeners as being from the GOTG, but possibly only in the trailer? I’m fuzzy. The song ALSO also appears in Dick, and its first feature film appearance was Reservoir Dogs. 

2. “Bennie and the Jets” - Elton John. You know it, you love it, you cackle at the gag in Mystery Team. IMDb has this song down as first appearing in the low budget feature Aloha, Bobby and Rose, from 1975. It is ALSO in My Girl 2, with proper credit for Sir Elton. 

1. “TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)” - MFSB featuring The Three Degrees. IMDb says this appeared in the Al Pacino film Carlito’s Way, and I have no reason to doubt them because it means we are done! Thanks for readin’ and rockin’ along.

1. Name: I can’t say it lest the faeries take it for nefarious means

2. Nicknames: In most places I’m Tatty, which I’ve had for years. I was previously called Elfie by friends in school because I guess?? I look like an elf... But there have been others here and there which didn’t stick so much. I spent four years while I was in college and Uni going by my middle name just because I felt like it, though.

3. Zodiac Sign: Scorpio (and I’m more irrationally happy about this than I probably should be, especially for someone who really puts no stock into horoscope or zodiac lore).

4. Height: 5′1″

5. Languages spoken: English. I knew a little German years ago but I’m very out of practice and couldn’t string together a full sentence, now. There was one summer I tried to teach myself trigedasleng but that didn’t go far. And I have picked up odd words or phrases here and there of Italian and Japanese, the former thanks to a week in Europe with friends last year and the later thanks to watching a tv series in the original language. But yeah - fluent only in English.

9. Favourite scent: hmm...I tend to veer towards jasmine and honeysuckle for bottled smells or candles. But I’d also say I love the smell of a campfire, or the air right after heavy rain. That last is probably my favourite, honestly.

11. Favourite animal: R e d  P a n d a s. I’m sure people who know me will be SHOCKED to read this haha. I’m obsessed. They’re such beautiful, adorable, goofy little creatures and they’re so endangered. Getting to hold a red panda is on my fairly short bucket list. But other animals I really love include: Orca whales, Quokkas, owls (specifically barn, snowy and malasian wood), fruit bats and Arabian horses.

12. Favourite fictional character(s): oh dear. oh no. um. So, the thing is - I fandom hop a lot and characters I’m obsessed with at the time I’m in the fandom I can also feel fairly apathetic about months later if i’m really deep into a different fandom. So it’s tricky but I guess ....ones that I’ve loved for a long, long time and tend to sort of stick with me (and this has no bearing on my opinion of the show/movie/book itself, or their storylines): Jess Mariano from Gilmore Girls, Percy Jackson from Percy Jackson and the Olympians (books not movies), Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Stiles Stilinkski from Teen Wolf. These are ones that I have a long history of always liking but that said I really very quickly fell in love with BD-1 the little buddy droid from the Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order video game. so. There’s that.

13. Coffee, tea or hot chocolate: hot chocolate, hands down. I’ll drink tea occasionally but I’m not overly fond of it and coffee very literally makes me nauseated. Even the smell turns my stomach, so that’s a no-go.

14. Average sleep hours: maybe 7? Sometimes I sleep in to make up for routinely going to bed late, but not always so i fluctuate a lot.

15: Dog or cat person: Both. Hands down. I never want to pick between these because I just can’t. 

16. Number of blankets you sleep with: Varies. Usually at least one but sometimes i’ll pile on a few more if it’s cold. I’m a blanket hoarder - I love buying all kinds of different ones so I can pick and choose.

17. Dream trip: Probably something that incorporates a bunch of things I want to do, But that’s not possible. There’s a lot of things I want to do, not all of them for the first time. There’s places I want to see, not all of those for the first time, either and I just want to have fun doing them. I think any trip that enabled me to cross off some of those things would be a dream. Which means I’ve already had more than one dream trip.

18. Blog established: Oh heck. Years ago? I have no idea. I’ll go look..April 2013. I guessed it was spring-time ish but nice to get the year confirmed. I do remember I got this blog thanks to the Percy Jackson books, so there’s that, too.

20: A random fact: Have one about red pandas - they’re not genetically closely related to any other still living animal in the world. They are on a divergent evolutionary tree of their own, that branched off before Giant Pandas, other bears or even raccoons or cats. But there finally is conclusive proof that there are two entirely unique species of Red Panda; the Chinese and the Himalayan. (and turns out choosing which random red panda fact to provide was really difficult).

The currently known regulations established by the Sokovia Accords include:

- Any who AGREE to sign. I dont think this is asking too much. If ur working for a government agency, if ur using force in any way during ur work, I think its fair to ask you to give them biometric data. And if its only so in case there is an investigation afterwards (which their always should be imo) its clear distinguishable who was where and did what.

- Also, what if someone suddenly decides "something happened, im changing sides, imma take revenge" (no matter if its a concious decision or brainwashing 👀)? Would probably be good to have some data and perhaps be able to track them. If its managable or not- hm. But theres no harm in giving that data if ur only goal is working towards a safer world.

Those with secret identities must reveal their legal names and true identities to the United Nations.

- Oh nooo, no unknown vigilantes that might make mistakes while fighting on their own and then cant be held accountable? No one is perfect, OF COURSE, but from a realistic pov I wouldnt feel safe with someone running around fighting whoever-

And I know we love the romantic comic fantasy of "everybody can be a hero", and I swear I love it as much as you! But imagine ur just a normal person while spiderman is swinging above ur head- or even imagine ur spiderman- and then one tiny thing wents wrong. The normal person is crushed, dead or paralysed- Spiderman is in shock because that was Not supposed to happen and he is so so sorry!- But what now?

- If enhanced people were to work under an organisation (that is ideally not as shady and riddled with Hydra as Shield was) then those incidents would be covered. Yes it would still be terrible but Spiderman would get mandatory therapy session to work through it and the normal person... well if theyre dead then i guess the organisation would at least pay for the funeral and compensate the family (like if they were the only one providing for partner and kids), additionally a conversation between both partys if possible.

-Basically: nothing can be swept under the rug. The enhanced people can be protected!!! PLUS they only have to reveal their identity to the UN and not the world.

But if you submit to an analysis it can help find ways to train you, circle ur weaknesses, etc.

Yes the UN would know ur threat level- and that would be bad why? Are you planning to attack Them? If not then no problem. Instead they would know if they should send you in or not- depending... you dont need a level 5 when there is a cat in a tree. We want to avoid unnecessary damage, thank you. If ur a level 1 you also dont want to be on the front lines against an alien invasion for example- better help evacuate non-powered individuals and not die immediately.

- If anything then this paragraph would help improve the communication between countries. Yes people fear that in emergencies this will all take too long but 1) thats not the Accords fault and 2) I think we already have situations like this irl and most times it does work.

All members of the Avengers are subject to the same conditions as enhanced individuals, even if they are not enhanced themselves: Black Widow was required to sign so she could continue serving on the Avengers, and Hawkeye was incarcerated on the Raft after violating the Accords.

the point of the evil scientist organisation is to make new powers to porbably use it agains the world. maybe world domination maybe sth else but they want to make the powers thay have stronger, and influence the parents to give their kids trauma (hiding it with dicipline) so they can have more.

Mentari is actually not the mc lol she's one of the students, yes, but she's not the mc. Mc doesn't have a name currently but the video was mc and adam's first convo! i'm kinda excited to write those two.

and i've never actually played animal crossing before! I usually spend my time bing-reading books/fics to ignore reality. I write them too sometimes depending on my mood

i also have a huge stationery collection but i like notebooks and stickers the most. If anyone asks me what i want for my bd its either stationary or earrings because iw ore the same boring ones for 15 years and now im bored of them

that said i have a huge sticker collection that i probably won't use for a while and i bought more yesterday. giving me access to money was a mistake on my parents' behalf tbh

also my math test results came in and either im blind or my math teacher mixed the results because there is no way i got a 53/100 when i was expecting at least 80/100. I'm currently thinking of ways to hide said results from my dad for a week before school opens again (damn my math teacher for not coming to school on friday so i could take a look at my mistakes!) because unfortunately i value my life

i also realized i never wanted to be a doctor but my dad says i need to go to med school (i wanted to be a genetic engineer for a long time) but now i'm not sure what i want to be

options are:

a) genetics because there is no way im being a doctor

b) a chef? i've always liked cooking

c) i will open a bookstore + cafe with cats. this has been my dream since i was like 9 so i actually wanna do this

i'm in the same boat, i talked to my parents about it and thankfully they're chill about it and said that as long as i'm happy and have a good education, i can do whatever makes me happy - i think its worth having a long talk to your parents about bc my parents weren't always like that, i had to talk to them often about not wanting what they wanted for me and now they're more open to it - you've got this! i believe in you!

i say go for what makes you happy, you don't want to live a life of regrets and 'what-if's, right? you're still young so you should take risks as the impact won't be as big as, say, you being 30 and wanting to finally have a career change

I don't think things will ever get better for me. They start to. Like the light at the end of a tunnel. But then i figure out that light it actually a train. Its getting my hopes up. But then something awful happens. If this keeps up idk how long ill be able to deal with it. I dont wanna be here if its just going to be bad. why do i have to be here only to feel pain. I cant run away. Theres no way for me when my dad has contact with officers who will track me. And, once i do get away what then? I do know what im going to do but will the pain finally go away? Uta no Prince-Sama Maji Love Live 6th Stage 27/5

Now that I’ve had a chance to actually sit down, I’m going to do a quick write-up (not so much a blow-by-blow but a list of shit I found awesome/hilarious/whatever).

Notes under the cut bc length and so anyone going tomorrow doesn’t get spoiled!

The set list itself was pretty good, I saw a full list on tumblr so click through if you want to see it. HEAVENS didn’t get solos, but they were already pretty stretched for time so it makes sense. STARISH and Quartet Night did all manner of solos, duets, group performances, mixed group performances, whatever. No 2000% or Revolutions, which seriously bummed me out (did they REALLY have to do Legend Star twice????).

Judging from the BD of 5th Stage (which I’ve watched too many times), they ran for about the same time (~3.5 hours), but 6th Stage had wayyyy less talking. STARISH and Quartet Night did a short combined talk, HEAVENS did a short talk (which, if my shitty Japanese and body language skills were correct, was mostly Midorikawa (Eiichi) leading everyone in bullying OnoD (Kira) as always), and they did their thank yous at the end (and also announced a new anime project but I couldn’t catch any details bc said shitty Japanese; EDIT: it’s an original theatrical film!). There was no big group talk like other performances have had (at least, from what I’ve seen on the DVDs/BDs).

That’s the basic rundown, so let’s do the fun stuff (in mostly chronological order).

I posted this pic earlier (click through for bigger view) but I’ll show it again so we all remember the layout of the place lmao (this was about an hour-90 mins before the show started, it was FULL by the performance time). The acoustics fucking sucked and I’m pretty sure it’s because the arena has open sides (but it was thoroughly enjoyable anyway).

EDIT: I’m hearing talk of people not getting in on time or something? I dunno man, I planned ahead and went ‘ok, 30k capacity venue, one place to do ID checks and wristbands, doors open at 2 for a 4.30 start...I’ll get there at 2, then.’ Had my wristband by 3 and was in my seat by 3.30 (with quite a bit of messing around outside). It did start a bit late, but that’s par for the course for every show I’ve ever been to lol.

So first of all, fucking STARISH opened the show by emerging from a giant goddamn balloon that blew up in the middle of the stage (under the big screens in about the upper middle of that pic). There were smoke machines and dramatics and everything lmao.

After that, QN did their thing, and shoutout to the super cute woman near me who sobbed her heart out for the entirety of her fave’s solo song, you’re adorable and I love you. Call me.

Between STARISH and QN, there were also some very interesting haircut/wig choices lmao. Maeno (Camus) looked like Joan Jett; Aoi’s (Ai) usual blue clip ins reallllly did not work with the weird light brown hair colour he otherwise had going on lmao. Kishow (Natsuki) had a pretty sweet shaved left side going on though, looked like there was a pattern shaved in edge of it. I was kind of expecting Suwabe (Ren) to go temporarily orange (bc of the bleach job he’s been rocking lately) but he didn’t, and I couldn’t tell if he was wearing his usual mullet Ren extensions.

Mamo (Tokiya) came out to do his thing with the opening, it was pretty good, and then they brought out the fucking fake rain on the left side of the stage (near the big white ball thing, more on those soon). It was cheesy and terrible and perfect (much like UtaPri itself tbh).

Cecil’s performance opened with cat noises and someone appearing on stage holding a cat (it was moving from what I could tell, and I hope like hell that it was animatronic, was kinda hard to tell from my position), only to have a cloud of smoke appear around them with that dramatic ass Toriumi stepping out of it. Side note, he looked less...let’s say uncomfortable than other years and I am v proud of him.

And then Suwabe. Suwabe. Light of my life (both the bloke himself and Ren, tbh). He performed the majority of his solo while riding on a fucking orange hoverboard. Old mate was just tooling around the stage the whole time and I kept waiting for him to stack it but he never did, not even while fairly blasting around backwards. I am so impressed and it was my fave moment of the whole show tbh.

I was confused about all the sunflowers people had but then Terashima (Otoya) popped up on stage and I remembered that whole thing lmao. His solo involved a horde of red shirt wearing, sunflower wielding children as backup dancers, it was super cute!

After all the solos and a little chat they did 1000%, aka the best damn group song this show has ever produced (fight me). Not much to say there, I just love it too much to leave it out.

This was about halfway through the show, when HEAVENS finally showed their faces (rising up on big podiums on the left stage, naturally). HEAVEN’S GATE is another song I love so that was super cool lol. They did a chat, sang another group song, and then it was time for all the Duet Project songs.

When Mamo (Tokiya) and Uchida (Eiji) hugged at the end of their song, I thought there were going to be mass heart attacks in the audience (my god, the crowd went wild for fanservice lololol).

EDIT: I just remembered what I liked about Kishow (Natsuki) and Yonaga’s (Nagi) duet: They had ‘LET’S’ and ‘SHOUTING’ written on their palms like they do in the series lolololol. Nice touch.

Lasting Oneness...I love that fucking stupid song lmao. Suzuken (Masato) sadly didn’t get his chance to do flips on wires, but he and OnoD (Kira) were in big crane things on the very right of the stage that lifted pretty high and did a big, slow 360 over the area. When Suzuken was stepping out of it he tripped over the bottom railing lmao (didn’t fall, but visibly stumbled a bit). Also, OnoD looked way less like he wanted to die than he did last time I saw him at an event (the Last Game talk), so that was nice lolololol.

Suwabe (Ren) and Hidenori’s (Van) song fucking went off, which is fair enough lmao. They were both being pulled on big carts through the back of the audience from either side, and Hidenori went right by my area which was pretty cool!

After that was Toriumi (Cecil) and Yamashita’s (Shion) turn. It began with these big white sphere things lifting up:

Yeah, turns out they were attached to baskets and they fucking floated around the arena with the seiyuu singing in them. It was one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time, actually. Looked pretty high.

I’d assumed that there would be no wire flying bc of the arena setup, but Shimono (Syo) and Kimura (Yamato) proved me wrong on that one when they started having a goddamn mid-air fight under the four big screens in the middle of that big venue pic.

Yeah, under there. That white disc thing on the stage is the balloon that inflated and then opened to reveal STARISH at the beginning lmao.

Once all the Duet Project songs were done, HEAVENS, QN and STARISH all did their season ending performance songs, then they all fucked off before coming back for the encore.

This involved all 3 groups on the big carts they drive around the area, with HEAVENS and QN on the far side (from my perspective) and STARISH on my side. First up both HEAVENS and QN did their season opening songs, and so the cameras were all focused on the opposite side of the arena to STARISH.

This is important because, while both groups were singing their songs, Mamo (Tokiya) was, and I’m not exaggerating here, dancing like his goddamn rent was late. When it was time for STARISH to perform and the cameras were on him, he was well behaved. But fuck me, when the cameras were safely away, he was straight up air humping and bumping and grinding and doing high kicks and basically looking like he could have been doing a 2am performance to Warrant’s Cherry Pie.

And I only managed to see it because I was at the exact right angle to see STARISH while the action was going on over at the opposite side of the arena. TBH I don’t know how many people even noticed, considering that you would assume something like that would draw massive amounts of screaming. 

I can’t even tell you what anyone else was doing during that time because I was enthralled (and I’m not into that lmao). I’ve noted before that he has a very feminine dancing style sometimes, actually (the chair dance part of Secret Lover from 5th Stage has always struck me as being a very feminine routine).

Anyway, that’s about it. They did their thank yous, announced the new anime project (whatever it was lmao; EDIT: original theatrical film), did Legend Star again for some reason, and I fucked off during the curtain call because I’m a bad person and have you ever tried to leave an arena with 30k other people all going for the same train. Got a seat on the train and all lmao.

A lovely woman near me at the train station was cutting this silver ribbon off a roll and handing it out, which was super nice of her (pictured with wristband because why not lmao)!

Anyway, that’s the highlights as I remember them (and as noted in terribly confusing shorthand with all my stupid nicknames on my phone while on the train). If I think of anything else later I’ll add it in, I’m pretty tired and probably forgot something lol.

12/10 great fucking time wdbwa and will definitely buy the DVD/BD when it comes out.
