Hey :o) I've been mulling for a while on a possible (possible) "Rogues play DnD" fic (where business is slow and/or dangerous and they have to lie low a while, so Piper suggests he run a campaign and helps the others make characters, because "it's good for cohesion and teamwork, Len" and also "you get to loot and have fun with no real-life consequences"). I'm going with a vague, mostly pre-52 version of Hartley, James, Len, Lisa, Mark, Mick, Roscoe and Digger, btw.
So I have my own ideas about the classes and races of the characters they'd want to play, running the gamut between "character is nothing like its player" and "character is basically a fantasy version of the player"), but I'd love to hear your thoughts about it - and your mutuals/followers! What would fit them? What wouldn't, but they'd find hilarious (and make work somehow)?
tl;dn - DnD Rogues. Go nuts :o)
(GAH I forgot Sam but he's there too!)
Hi, fun concept! I have to admit that I know very little about DnD, so am not much help in assigning classes or races, unfortunately! But I can suggest who might be more likely to play someone similar or different from themselves. Sam in particular would go with something very different; this is a guy who LARPed as a cowboy, had some lulz pretending to be a heroic Mirror Master, and thought it'd be fun to play a random joe in a leadership class. His Black Lantern incarnation -- which wasn't him, but was based on his memories -- said that he became the Mirror Master because he hated who he was. So I definitely think he'd want to be someone very different and possibly unexpected. And James likes disguising himself and playing around with different identities and gender, so he'd also be quite open to playing someone very different from himself…it'd all be part of the performance.
I think Len and Roscoe would be likely to play someone mostly like their own selves, or perhaps someone more like who they aspire to be. Roscoe has literally been other people, but he's kind of rigid in his thinking and has struggled hard to be what his parents wanted from him (and truthfully he's probably told himself that's what he wants too, even if it isn't). Mick would probably choose someone quietly steadfast, the strong and silent type, since he often seeks tranquility to escape the chaos of his own thoughts. He'd likely be open to any class/gender/race so long as it fit that archetype.
It might be a cheap `n easy answer, but I suspect Mark would want to be a wizard because he's not hugely imaginative and would enjoy the gravitas of being some kind of powerful Gandalf type. In practice he'd probably come across as an unintentional ham. And I don't know what class or race Digger would be -- he might enjoy the challenge of something unexpected or ridiculous -- but am pretty sure his character would end up a drunken lout because that's just how he rolls. No pun intended :]
With Hartley I go back and forth on whether he'd go with the obvious bard archetype he genuinely enjoys being or try something entirely different to have a new experience…not sure, really. I don't know what class Lisa would play, but I think she'd want to have a female character because she's in a crowd of guys (not that they'd all necessarily pick male characters) and I think she'd want to assert her identity amongst them.
Not sure if this helps!
Anyone else have some input?

Mick and Len, "hand(s)"?
Len can honestly say that ne never spent any significant time watching people's hands, not really.
His father doesn't count since he was more watching out for the punches, so while the hands had been involved, he wasn't looking at them because they were hands but because they were coming at him.
He first gains awareness of the fact that he just spent a rather long time looking where Mick's hands happen to be.
It's not because of their appearance, big, broad, skin shiny in places where burns happened, callused and rough.
It's because they're reaching out for him, fingers barely an inch from him before they retreat, curl back and then the hand lowers itself entirely - he doesn't know what to make of it.

belphegor1982 replied to your text post: Raccoons!! 🦝 I've always like those little bandits. Did you know that in French we call them "ratons laveurs" (washing [little] rats)? I know they carry loads of diseases and fleas and it's NOT a good idea to get too close, but it's one of those species I'm just glad exists ^^ (and not just because I rewatched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 just last night, either ;D)
I didn't know that, but that's great! They do love washing things, and in years past they used to play in our birdbath. Their poop can carry very serious parasites, so I've been discouraging them from romping too much in the garden (sometimes they'll poop in the dirt), but I'm still kind of delighted to see them there even though they've been eating my tomatoes.
Last year I was outside feeding a cat I thought was a stray at the time, and some baby raccoons came close enough to me to touch, so I had to shoo them away so they wouldn't get too bold with humans or bite the cat or I. But geez, did I ever want to pet them :>

1, 7, 27?
weirdly specific and unrelated ask
chipotle order?
I haven't ordered Chipotle in ages, but when I did in the past I usually went for a burrito bowl with chicken, brown rice, black beans, fajita veggies and tomato salsa.
7. what animal do you look forward to seeing when you visit an aquarium?
Also haven't been to an aquarium in ages, but dolphins were my favorite when I visited them as a kid.
27. what’s your favorite or go-to outfit?
Honestly not particularly attached to any of my clothes.

Hey :o) I wanted to thank you loudly and profusely for the lovely moodboard you made for my fic (In the Light of Tea and Sake) 💜 I went starry-eyed when I saw it (as soon as I got past the shock of "waIT I WON SOMETHING!??") and I keep looking at it because it's soft and lovely and I love it a lot 🥰 Thanks again!
Aww, you are so welcome! In the Light of Tea and Sake is such a beautiful story. As much as I loved it the first time around, I think I loved it even more on a (second?) reread as I was making the award. I tried to find the right pics of Courtney, Pat, and Ralph to fit the mood and timeline. I also didn't want a plain white background for the template that I used so I went with another pic of Courtney, adjusting the transparency. I like the soft colors, even if Amanda usually wears brighter ones. I love when titles are name-dropped in a story, so I had to use that quote. Congratulations on your win!

Hey! Just wanted to drop a word because I saw your reblog of the Underdark illustration on my dash a while back and it absolutely sent me!? I read it on FFnet back in, er, 2008 I think, when I only had a vague idea of who the characters were - I mean, I did have recollections of watching TMNT 1987 as a kid and I must've watched a few episodes of the 2003 series when it aired in my country, but the story was so gripping and the characterisation so good that it just. Hooked me so well. It's still on my FFnet "favourite" list and until I (re)watched TMNT 2003 from start to finish in ~2015 it was my prime "this is Mikey and Leo" characterisation. (still kinda is, you write them so well!)
(also, I had a big brain/"god I'm dumb" moment a few weeks ago when I came across the word "Underdark" in the context of DnD and Critical Role in particular. I legit thought you'd invented it. Read the description of the concept on Wikipedia and literally went
Tumblr media
Also also, question, because this has been weighing on my mind lately. I have an outline for a fic (not TMNT) that is, essentially, "two characters falling underground and trying to survive/climb back up + bonding! character and relationship development!" And I know you didn't invent the concept itself but I still feel I need your permission to pursue this further, if only because, well, my brain essentially went "Underdark, but make it [these two characters]". So if you feel this skirts uncomfortably close to plagiarism, just say the word, and it'll just remain a one-page set of notes in my Dropbox. Knowing me it might never make the light of day anyway, but still, I thought I'd ask first!
Sorry for the wall of text 😅
dkljfadsf okay first off, no apologies required, this was great to read. Thank you! I love hearing from people who've enjoyed Underdark so definitively over the years. And DEFINITELY MORE THE OTHER WAY AROUND - the title of Underdark was lifted from D&D as the great dark expanse (but not, in this case, full of drow, lmao. At least, not that anyone encountered.) I'm sort of happy I introduced you to the concept first? |D But alas I did not invent it, I just grew up with a bunch of Drizzt Do'Urden books.
Second, you are most welcome to write such a fic and I would be honoured if you considered it inspired by my work, but you definitely do not need my permission for such a thing. I appreciate you asking! I've seen a couple of people lift the whole story outline (and some lines!) wholesale into their own work and so being asked first on a just in case basis is lovely indeed. I wish you the best of luck with it, and it doesn't come remotely close to plagiarism if that reassures you.
Wall of text me anytime and have a great weekend ♥

tagged by @belphegor1982 for a "people I'd like to get to know better"!
Last song: "Can't Sleep" by K. Flay. I did movie night with a friend and realized three years too late how much of a banger the needle drops in The Suicide Squad (2021) are. On a related note, it's also on my Summer Jam A-Side playlist for this year.
Favourite colour: Blue!
Currently watching: I'm hopping between Ducktales (2017) and Brooklyn 99 for my lunch/dinner viewings right now.
Spicy/savoury/sweet: See, this feels like an unbalanced question because 99% of the time, spicy things are likely savoury, but have very little overlap with sweet. That being said, sweet.
Relationship status: Happily acspec and solo (jk I have a very complicated relationship with the idea of a partner).
Current obsession: My love for Pacific Rim is undying, if that counts.

So, @belphegor1982 asked me for my thoughts on the BTTF musical which I saw about 10 days ago, and I've managed to put them together and keep them as spoiler-free as possible--
Even before you go into the theatre, the merch store is separate, which is great when it's a rainy January night and you're waiting for the doors to open (which I was). I'm not sure if this has been a thing for previous productions at the Winter Garden Theatre, but for other Broadway shows I've seen in different theatres (Phantom and Anastasia), the merch was sold inside the theatre, and you needed a ticket to get to it/wait til the doors opened.
The pre-show immersion/ambiance is fantastic; not even Phantom can boast that.
There are numerous easter eggs for fans of the movies; it's so fun spotting them all.
It does not take long for the fourth wall to come tumbling down, and it is glorious. Marty even lampshades it in the opening number.
@knickynoo mentioned this in her writeup, but Doc and Marty are just as neurodivergent (if not moreso) than their movie counterparts
Doc is also so very obviously asexual in this version, I love it.
A small thing, but we actually get to hear Doc say "If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything." In the movie, everyone credits him for saying it, but we never actually hear him say it.
Doc's involvement in the Manhattan Project is canonized in the musical-verse!
The DeLorean is borderline sentient and sassy
Most people know by now that they changed Twin Pines Doc's cause of death/the reason Marty goes back in time, and it works so much better for both practicality reasons on stage, and for the fact that the original was a charging bull elephant in the room.
Goldie Wilson gets an absolute banger for his song (as well he should!)
Another small thing, I like the little addition of Doc's fear of heights.
@wromwood pointed out how only Doc and Marty seem to acknowledge the existence of the chorus ensemble (Lorraine gets some backup singers for her number out of nowhere, but she takes no notice of them). I didn't even realize this until he mentioned it, and now I'm fascinated by the implications of Doc and Marty being hyper-aware of the fourth wall for whatever reasons.
The Act I closing number is gloriously chaotic.
...I could do an entire post about why I love "For the Dreamers" so much and how it delves so deeply into Doc's character. Just... GAH. This man has dealt with so many naysayers and considers himself a failure (it's telling that he did technically have a success with the Manhattan Project, but still considers that a failure--I'd theorize because he obviously feels so dang guilty about having the blood of innocent civilians on his hands as a result of it) but now he has hope that he will accomplish something great.
Not only do we have Marty worrying about Doc dying in 1985, we get to see him worried and unsure of his own fate. This kid has been Through It, and it isn't over yet.
THE WAY THEY DID THE ENCHANTMENT UNDER THE SEA DANCE. I cannot spoil this; you must experience this firsthand, but I will assure you that "Earth Angel" and "Johnny B Goode" are there in all their glory.
The Clocktower scene is spectacular. You're wondering how they'll pull it off onstage, and they just do it.
Others have mentioned this BUT WE GET THE LONE PINE HUG THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN IN THE MOVIE.
The absolute best meta joke comes courtesy of Jennifer near the end. I cannot spoil this either, but if you know, you know.
THAT FINALE (again, if you know, you know).

belphegor1982 replied to your text post: Oh, Roscoe. Ouch. You convey very well the sense of "fine at the moment but memories/trauma coming back up to the surface through nightmares and panic attacks". (Len, I love you, but man you're an asshole.) Great job!
Thank you very much! It feels like there'd be a special kind of trauma to repeatedly die and return to life (not to mention time in Hell, which he specifically stated was traumatic), especially since we know he's a ghost with memories who's been around to watch the living; it's not like he snuffs out and then returns to life with no knowledge of what happened in between those times. I think that's what's made modern Roscoe as unpleasant as he frequently is, since he was mostly easygoing before his first death. He's a mess of trauma + worsened mental health + way too much power, which is a bad combo from other people's POV.
I love Len too, but that scene is really horrifying -_-

JJ & or /Selina + "devil"?
She'll never get the whole story out of him, that is as certain as the Amen in a church.
Although he won't outright lie to her, they both know that she'll see it and to spare her (his?) feelings, he'll deflect, redirect and generally stay as vague as possible, positively tightlipped for someone who is almost perpetually grinning.
But it haunts him, eats at him, follows him.
Sometimes she is almost certain she can see a second shadow stalking him, preying on him, eating (at) him.
When she's being honest with herself, she is glad (and ashamed of it) that he won't share what he saw, what happened to him, what was done to him - it would haunt her too, giving her a shadow to match.

belphegor1982 replied to your text post: It's more than okay!! Oh wow, it looks so lean, and orange, and so CLOSE! 🧡 I know they're not necessarily good news, especially to smaller pets and/or chickens, but I'm just "WILDLIFE 😍"
I really love foxes and get so excited to see them, though they really can be a danger to small pets. Last summer I brought a neighbour's cat into the house because a fox ran at him in our backyard, and another night three young foxes stalked him and my spouse and I had to chase them away. The foxes weren't aggressive to us humans, but they weren't scared of us either.
But they're such beautiful, playful, and intelligent animals. Once one approached us (from a distance) and did the play-bow that dogs do when they want to goof off with you, and was clearly hoping we'd 'chase' him. They're great!

Also The Legend of Vox Machina?
Favourite character: Percival Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III, my beloved white-haired anime boy
Funniest character: Scanlan
Best-looking character: One of the twins (I'd probably say Vex has the edge until Vax gets the Deathwalker's Ward, and then it's a toss-up)
3 favourite ships: I'm honestly not crazy about any ships so far, but I think Percy/Vex have had the best development of the three I know end up becoming canon
Least favourite character: Syldor. I want to punch him in the dick every time he opens his mouth.
Least favourite ship: I don't dislike them, but I don't love what I've seen of Vax/Keyleth or Scanlan/Pike
Reason why I watch it: I love the characters and I don't have the attention span to watch Critical Role
Why I started watching it: Because of you ❤️

Ardeth Bay Headcanons
As well as his native variant of Arabic, he is fluent in a number of other regional dialects, and proficient to fluent in English, French, German, Italian, some Coptic and some Middle and Late Kingdom phrases.
Is an avid reader, especially of poetry. He'll pick up any volume of poems he can, ancient, modern, or anything in between, in any language he knows.
Poetry and storytelling are extremely popular pastimes amongst the Medjai. As well as readings, Ardeth writes some poetry of his own.
When they are invented and he gets a chance to experience them, he loves roller-coasters.
Drinks alcohol sparingly, but has been known to indulge in pomegranate wine if he's feeling laid-back.
Beverage of choice is strong Turkish coffee, which he drinks anytime he has the water to spare.
Has a sweet tooth, and gets sparkle-eyed for strawberry tarts when he first tries them while visiting the Carnahan-O'Connells in England.
Strong coffee + sweet tooth means his favorite treat would be a cafe mocha, full fat milk and whipped cream with cinnamon on top.
Has a younger sister, Nesreen, with whom he is very close (even though she is prone to teasing him, as little sisters do.)
His mother is deaf, so he signs with her using a Medjai variant of Arabic sign language which incorporates some of their signal codes and other gestures.
Has always had a falcon named Horus since he was first old enough to learn. Horus I was presented to him by his father. Subsequent birds all take the name (Horus II, Horus III, etc.) like a little dynasty.
Has cultivated a good rapport with a merchant in Cairo who makes and sells the highest quality soaps and emollients. Ardeth keeps his spare money aside to pick up the best shampoo and hair oil when he's in the city. Those luxuriant locks don't happen by accident.
(He may ignore the question, if asked about it, but Nesreen will happily spill the beans.) If he shares his hair care secrets and products with you, you have made it to his innermost circle.
Surprisingly good with children. When interacting with young kids, he will squat down to talk on their level, face to face. Enjoys giving piggyback rides to young family members, and lifting them up to sit on the saddle in front of him when they are too young to learn to ride yet.
Has a great dry sense of humor he shows only around people he's comfortable with (and when he's not in Serious Medjai Chieftain mode).
He inherited the knife with the elaborate handle (seen on his back in the first film) from his grandfather.
Slow to open up and trust people, but once you've earned it, you have a friend for life.
With thanks to @nnobodoodles, @belphegor1982, @picklebrinedgoblinmind, @nooneleavesforgood, and @tinydooms for letting me share some of these before and sharing some of their own ideas with me for brainstorming! ❤
