humans are poets as well as warmongers

Humans nowadays are well known far and wide in this galaxy. Mostly because they are some of the most chaotic, Stupid or bold "daredevils" around (think i used that word correctly).

While i do recall my first meeting with the humans very V E R Y badly since i served in the contact wars when the Graktuka a well known theocratic empire and very influential and politically strong contender in the galaxy stumbled across human colonies. They saw this as an hostile action since the planet they were settling were a holy world, That however is a story for another time.

Just know that the Graktuka empire shrunk by a significant margin to the point where they asked for militairy support. The humans had apparently developed a kind of magnetic accelerated firing plattform piercing through multiple layers of hull completely ignoring shields. Given that Graktuka empire relied on shields since most of the galactic arsenal is plasma based but their hull wasn't weak at all. Unconventional weapons had to be used to even dent their armour. Realising that the humans ships were massive but rather primitive and slow a ground based invasion was seen to be the optimal way off going.

If you were there you would know why humanity is as feared as they are. Masters of the what did they call it? Art of war? Yeah something like that. Fields of bombs buried into the ground detonating with a light step. Weapons dedicated to injure soldiers just enough to save them but not kill them in order to make the invader spend more resources on saving said soldier.

Even our bases of operations with shields were not safe, let me tell you if you think regular humans can cause damage to stuff by touching things dont even get near trained saboteurs with your stuff. They break things in a ways that seems like a simple malfunction and will work after a simple repair. When the shield generator first broke down i thought i could fix it in a matter of minutes, I still havent fixed it to this day and i have taken that thing apart thousands of times without finding the fault.

safe to say we lost that war and this is just one one planet. This was the short part. Just be glad that they pack bond with just about anything. Saw a human carry a cleaning unit and named it "Ronald the Roomba" And that is apparently our ships mascot. But this is things we all are aware of. Let me tell you of their poetic side

This is not something most of us see as common knowledge about humans, but their cultural aspect besides war is for a lack of better words beautiful. This thing they call music.

for all their wars they know how brutal they are and write songs about everything they did wrong and how they wished how they could change it. But that is not all, according to human Jakob music portrays emotions and ones feelings in a way that regular communication doesn't and you dont even need to understand the words to understand the emotion said piece is carrying. Which i know to be true, it's almost therapeutic

I think My log of it will be a better way to describe since it is honestly hard to describe [alltough be careful their music is quite loud for most prey species]

Year 4574 human sector 456854 log 1 of service leave. I am currently here on a passion project of mine. While the war has ended 6 years ago off now the tensions do still exist. Me and some comrades in service are taking some time off and going to what humans call a bar and apparently there is a human performing. I have no idea of how this is gonna go. All i know is humans are incredibly chaotic especially when intoxicated. Still i should probably record this for the culture scientists at social scientific hub.

*murmur and loud talking in the background at the bar*

"for clarifications sake, my name is Groakslo, i am here with my two comrades Kyukla and Telosa. We are currently at the bar only to see that humans are actively drinking poison, i was quite shocked to hear this and asked if it isn't dangerous and the bartender said and i quote "nah we gucci" note to self find out what gucci is."

Log 3

"the humans were beginning to get rowdy and even slight outbursts of violence did occur but nothing the surprisingly loud bartender couldn't handle by a very concerning threat, followed by him saying that the band is preparing so settle down. Telosa and i looked at each other very confused but still awaited this "band"

Log 4

"the band arrived and started to set up weird things, long instruments with metal strings, of varying thickness, i asked the a human who were close by what they were and he said instruments. I asked what they were used for and he said to play music. I was getting nowhere and decided to see for myself what they were gonna do."

Log 5 (i decided to be quiet for this one)

"welcome folks and aliens of all sorts shapes and kinds! Thank you for coming to this bar for our first debut our name is The Lines In between, and for those who dont know human music, we'll slowly lean you into it with this first on and it is namned Memories beneath the stars" [3 hours of music recorded]

Final log (yes i know i could voice record but i want to write while the memory is fresh i'm bad with words)

I never knew that humans could make such songs. Telosa and Kyukla was particurlarly affected. The song was as the name suggest the memories we made sneaking out to watch the stars as younglings, reminiscing about the times when the stars were the most unknown, adventure filled and beautiful place to be in. But also about the connections they've lost over the years, the good times wiped away like a water slowly polishing a stone into sand. It was odd, beautiful calm, sad all at once.

The voices i heard when i fought humans in war can not even be compared to that of the singer in that band, what is most perplexing is that the once borderline rioting bar was completely quiet when the band was performing, almost as if in a trance completely captured by the singers voice, smooth, rough, raspy but controlled in a way i thought impossible. A song about 4 human minutes somehow managed to capture the full emotional spektrum of not only humans but multiple species in that bar.

Humans truly are an astounding species. Truly a species that are on all of the extremes, stupidity, ingenuity, violence, poetry and many many more. For now i'll sign off and hope you at the social cultural exchange fellas have a field day with the music file attached to this.

YES there is magic. Of course im still working on this storywise but im getting characters designs n whatnot done right now. Dynamics n stuff. BUT i do have some refs i made before my laptop broke.

I like to draw out certain stuff so that it helps with descriptions in the future; i have the worst memory so it helps to be able to do so. (More beneath cut)

Im so excited for moon's shadow form. Oh my god. Its probably my favorite thing right now.

Fun thing about it is that in this form he can touch you but you cant touch him. Something something you can be cast in shadow but you cant take it off yk? He's still light sensitive like this though, so if the area hes in isn't dark enough or he's hit with anything too bright he just reverts back. At that point he'd just have to rely on normal hand to hand stuff and his sand lol. The shadow form is just better for sneaking and speed. Really, he's some amalgamative idea of the sandman and boogieman. I thought it fit well with his whole "naptime attendant gone wrong" thing.

Sun's design, however, is more like if you mixed a cowboy, wizard, and gravedigger together. I made it a while ago on a whim with no intention behind it but then i ended up thinking "ykw would be so awesome".

The hat dips to cover the crescent side of his face (not intentional on his part) to symbolize his resentment towards moon and how he basically damned him to an hourglass. His eyes are easier to see bc of this which could seem more trusting (eyes are the window to the soul or whatever), but the thing is thats not normal for him (as we know) so it's meant to make him look suspicious and looming to 4th wall viewers. There's also the fact that i just thought it was cool too.

He also doesn't get a second form. Moon's sneaky and weird so i thought it would fit to give him some freaky thing iykwim. Sun, however, is a pretty "in your face" kinda guy, so his look and fight style is more extravagant and boisterous. Lots of swinging amd yelling and boom bang zap! Despite the showiness he's actually a longer range fighter. Mainly because unlike moon, thousands of years ago, he wasn't often one to get violent with his hands. His weapon is just obnoxiously large too though.

They are still one animatronic and their transformation is still triggered by light. Instead of an AI chip though (which is still in there but long dead), they live through the work of a soul. They're still physically inorganic but as far as spiritually they're as close as they're gonna get to being human. Their life and functionailty is derived from the magic itself, not the machinery. Like if for some reason they lost all their magic they'd just drop dead from a battery life long since drained.

The hourglass has a carousel-like design to it purely as reference to moon's level in Help Wanted 2.

Sorry for rambling so much but this is what i've got for you so far! I have a general idea for the plot but im tryna to make it more than what it is rn, so i dont wanna share too much of that just yet in case i change or completely toss away an idea.

The amazing digital circus! (review)

So... people actually want my opinion and Im like

*sniff* Ok, guys! Im gonna try to do my best to review (?) the pilot ep for Tadc! (Spoiler alert: I enjoyed a lot!)

First of all, the animation. IS. BEAUTIFUL.

So elastic, so expresive, so shiny, is just perfect!

Like, for example, just look at her pupils, how she slightly moves her head, is something little but add a lot of life to the character.

And they are so expresive like you can see their fear and stuff, especially Pomni.

(I love this shot of her haha)

Everything is so full of life and colours, I just love when animators actually take advantage of animation and go crazy with it.

And the designs are really good too! I love them. The best ones are Caine and Kinger.

They are so... crazy. And thats great! Besides, I think the giant eyes on Kinger just makes him look more traumatized, which makes sense, because for what we know, he has been in the circus the longest.

Now the characters themselves. I like them. Just so much personality, and fun. Specially Jax.. he is an unapologetic asshole and I just love that.

Ragatha is nice. Hope to see more of her, but rigth know I dont have a lot to say about her, but she is likeable and kind. She is just what Pomni needs.

Il talk about Pomni, but later, cause I wanna comment some interesting stuff about her.

Gangle is cute and deserves a big hug.

Zooble is... okay too. I dont dislike her and she has some funny momens, but like Ragatha, I need to see more of her to make a more complete opinion. I KNOW is the pilot, but I still need more content. IM NOT CRITICIZING, IS JUST MY OPINION. Actually is good that they dont focus a lot on ALL the characters, because it would be a confusing mess, so, well done there, Glitch and Goose.

Kinger was freaking hilarious. Like when Jax mentions how stable Kinger and Gangle are, Kingle start to shake in a really weird but hilarious way. Or when he screams randomly and says that Gangle startled him.

I like this guy :D

Then we have Caine... oh boy, he is one of the most interesting characters, with Pomni and... Kaufmo.

He acts so happy and cheerful and stuff, and like a presenter. He is actually kinda nice, but is obvious that he is hiding something, like when Pomni asks about the exit and he gets all weird.

NOW. Lets talk about my waifu- about Pomni.

She is so realistic and human and relatable and I love that. And not just because she is so super confused and scared and anxious, but for other scenes.

The moment where Ragatha needs help, and Pomni actually extends her hand and grabs her, only to start glitching. She gest scared, apologizes and runs away. But she feels guilty and comes back to apologizes to Ragatha, who forgives her.

I LOVED THIS SCENE SO MUCH. Pomni became more than just the anxious main character and became a bit more tridimensional.

Another moment I loved related to her. This:

Is a very short scene... but it means so much. How she is just in shock an touches her face, like she just cant believe this is her. This is happening to her. And it adds to the existencial horror of the show.

And the most incredible one and amazed me is when she actually goes in the exit door. Like... she did want to help Ragatha, but this could have been her only chance to escape. Im sure anyone of us, including myself, would have done it.

But then the poor woman is traped in a bucle and starts to get crazy and laugh... I think I would have reacted exactly the same.

Or that last shot of her and her disturbed face.

DAMN, EVERYTHING IS SO GOOD. AND THE MUSIC TOO.

I LOVED THE INTRO. The comedy too! And the outro was so cute!

This show has showed us the potential it has for the horror AND I CANT WAIT.

•Trains the turtles the moment their powers start to show, so they can control them WAYYY better now xp

•No real leaders of the group, so he has no role besides being a good bro X]

•Hangs w/his friends a lot, usually out of the house

•Wants to explore soooo bad, 3rd to truly believe there's more beyond the Hidden City

•Not rlly a bully but makes lil pranks+teases his bros lots XP

•Trains his power w/Chiho lots, rlly dedicated to it

•Will throw his life on the line for his fam, maybe not SACRIFICE but get a good hit

•Tends to break the rules a bit, usually comes home to a lecture ready and waiting for him from Draxum lol

CHIHO (aka Raphael)-She/He-Queer-16

•Listens to Drax lots, not too big on rule breaking

•Big ol sweetipie, gives the best hugs trust🙏🏽

•Trains her power the most due to it being seen as harmful in his eyes (she hates to hurt accidently ppl (ुŏ̥̥ŏ̥̥) )

•WILL in fact stop the others from sneaking out (atleast not w/o him-) but Hokusai is js a bit too slick for her tastes... (they'll spar abt it l8r)

•Loves his home and his fam, doesnt rlly want anything more.. thinks abt it tho, js a little.. 4th/last to believe there's more beyond the city

ngl that tree’s hair post is too legit. I remember following you before you were obsessed with criticizing vivzie,, It’s been so long I don’t even remember what I followed you originally for but I dont mind other than worrying about your mental health. In the past I’d write huge analyses of fandom stuff or just really any topic ngl (especially controversial ones) and people would argue with me left n right. The way it made my blood pressure boil, the agonizing need for the last word just for a little drop of vindication. It became a horrible cycle, and I’m seeing that happen with you and it just concerns me.

I’ll admit once I stopped worrying about the hypocritical people in my phone/computer my life became much more peaceful. I was less consumed with morality and decided to just exist and focus on my hobbies. I hope you can put your passion to something more worthy of your time and care.

Well, I certainly appreciate the concern, and also the fact that you haven't jumped ship by now, something you would be more than justified in doing! But I've got to admit, this does come across as fairly condescending.

It might not always seem like it but I promise you guys I have things I do with my time and energy other than this. I go to the gym, work my day job, engage with other human people, touch a considerable amount of grass. I have multiple passion projects I'm working on that I don't talk about here, because like hell I'm exposing my (or other peoples') fledgling little newborn baby projects to a whole horde of touchin' fingers before they've even had their first round of vaccinations.

I'm not even particularly obsessed with criticizing Vivzie, at least no more than I am with criticizing anything else I bitch about here. People just wanted to talk about that, and then they really wanted to talk about that, and then before I knew it I had Vivzie's ex-friends and people from Spindlehorse sending me top secret things and telling me not to share them. So that part of this is trying to do what I can for them, but for the most part, I just enjoy sitting around gossiping and hearing what everyone's got to say. If it gets to be too much, I close the inbox, no big deal.

All this to say, I appreciate the thought, but I'm good! Seriously. Someday (probably sooner than later) this will all be over and I'll be okay with that, but for now, it's all good.

Hello! Yeah it was a bit of a rollercoaster for me personally. ⚠ STAMPEDE SPOILERS ⚠ BUT they really pulled it together in the end i think (for the most part) Since we now know for sure this is a prequel and where its now going after the finale it puts more perspective on things. I have OG Trigun brain so take my own opinions with a grain of salt. I think if people enjoy this new series on its own merits thats wonderful. HOWEVER I still think the series has severe pacing issues and we miss a ton of important character moments imo. And I wish we got to see more interaction with uhh actual humans. After the first 3 eps and then the one with Rollo we basically dont interact with any other humans who live on the planet and its so weird. (also my god we need more fun time in this show was a depression speedrun istg) Have a graph of my emotional journey:

Vash: oh man haha this one is tough. now that the season is over and we got a HUGE payoff with him so I am very happy now but yeahhh. Some parts I was like wow this is Vash he's perfect. But then as the episodes went on I was getting so frustrated. Because he just would stand there giving everyone UwU eyes and not do anything. Especially for his flashback with Knives. Which I understand it was "shock" but he basically stood there with a blank expression the whole time and it was so...??? Being a pacifist didn't mean he is a limp noodle and doesn't take action. Like don't get me wrong he did have a few moments where he fought Livio and the Badlads but that was about it. I think a lot of my frustration might be because he kept using hand to hand combat compared to using his gun which I am used to. again though, they really brought it back in the end 10000% and brought it into perspective so I can forgive some of the previous stuff. Meryl: She was made more cutesy and naïve. Which definitely got on my nerves here and there. But I was okay with it for the most part ( im not immune to cute lol) They got the most important part of her character where she is touched by Vash's convictions, and his love for humanity. She didn't start off jaded and roughened by the planet this time so I think it has a bit less impact in that regard. But I think the best thing they did for her is she is basically the stand in ambassador for humanity and its strength of character. Wolfwood: I don't have to much to say for him personally. but dude needs to have some fun. First ep with him was pretty great but after that was just a lot of angry yelling and nasty looks. Like...for awhile I couldnt even see how him and Vash are friends besides the fact that Vash is nice to him. Him and Meryl almost had more nice moments than both of them. I LOVED finally getting to see more of his backstory though esp with Livio that was so great. But I really wish we got to see how much he cares about kids and him interacting with them. All we would get is NOT THE ORPHANAGE!! but we never get to see it in action really. Besides him giving Zazie a lollypop that one time and the flashbacks but those only included Livio for the most part. Roberto: NGL I loved him he was cynical and grumpy LOL I was pretty offput at first because it felt like he was replacing Milly. I dont think he wasnt really utilized to his full potential though. Especially because he dies later. I feel like we didnt get enough time with him or character moments. I think it could have made his death hit harder. Also just a shame that he was just there to further Meryls arc. But i think he was meant to mirror Meryls drive to help against his pessimism. Milly: millyseason2millyseason2millyseason2!! ive been on and off working on a little dw oneshot story thing for just my own enjoyment. idk really want to call it but its basically just like an episode storyline im writing? like its within canon, just another story i wanted to add and experiment with.

not sure if ill post a lot of it cause i feel like the average dw has no interest in the silly story im making but yeah...

its basically just cause i wanted to put the doctor and rose into a more horror feeling scenario and ended up also wanting to make something in the vibes line of fatal frame, silent kill, res evil, etc etc

the story mainly revolves around entertainment, fans, and a dash of sexism/commodification of mainly women + some thoughts about vr

essentially the doctor and rose end up within a virtual horror game, not knowing it is a game, where the people they interact with are real human minds who've been uploaded into this game as protagonists for players to play as. its essentially a game where the player "tortures" these game protagonists by putting them in these horror game scenarios, haunted houses, demons hunting them, monsters of all kinds, etc etc where everything that happens to these characters is fully happening to a real human conscious.

the game itself has this massive following with obsessive fans who dont exactly know the truth of the characters theyre playing. the company running it uploaded these minds as a profit incentive, believing that all they needed for their game to succeed is the "human touch", and it pretty much worked.

the doctor and rose initially meet and spend the most time with one woman who is in a more silent hill like scenario and spend most the time running from these monsters and trying to figure out what happened to this world and how to yk solve it (not knowing its all a game). the game also builds bad guys off the data in the real minds of the characters in the game so a bunch of monsters and stuff chasing them around slowly turn into other things theyve encountered by like 10x creepier and awful.

i wont really explore the darker stuff ive been brewing but idk heres some stuff i thought was more fun:

1: when the protagonist they're following runs, its like the stereotypical horror girl half run that would barely be fast enough in real life, but depsite the fact the doctor and rose can be in a full sprint, she still is somehow faster than them

2: when the same protagonist essentially gets played by a player, she just stops where she is and enters a door neither rose or the doctor can see and leaves them stranded in the horror like scenarios she lives in regardless if she's being played or not.

3: literally the moment the doctor and rose enter this "world" all the colors become desaturated and the environment is dark and foggy, they basically just become characters within the game as well

4: all the horror protags really have no memory beyond whatever event set off their games, like one will be like "ah my husband, i miss him a lot, at times i think he's still there besides me" and rose is like "what was his name? your husband" and just the person she's talking to basically short circuits and loops the convo

not sure if there's much interest in stuff like this and im just testing to see if any of yall have interest because i do have some art ive done for it that id be up to sharing!

Which one is more fond of scary movies: Hmmmm I think as an actual thing to watch and enjoy probably Hank, but Jan often suggests them as an excuse for some snuggles :) she actively avoids them in every other context tho

Which one gets the most excited about Halloween: Janet absolutely loves to go all out for Halloween and make super elaborate couples costumes that really make everyone else look like the bargain bin beside, Hank's just happy to be there. To be honest I don't know if Hank had a strong Halloween experience as a child beyond The Corn.

Which one would be more likely to survive the apocalypse: Hmm.... if writers didn't have a hate boner for Hank constantly and liked to kill him probably Hank, but as Hank is fun to kill in apocalypse AUs Janet. I think generally Janet wants to help more than Hank does and I could easily see her dying in like a Zombie Apocalypse really easy trying to help civilians, while Hank would think more about the bigger picture and shrink him and his lab down somewhere hidden where he can try and work on a cute or a way out or something.

Which one would literally kill for the other: Both of them to be honest but Hank's more likely to succeed (war flashbacks of Ults Hank eating Blob's head that one time)

Which one likes to scare or startle the other: Janet, I think she absolutely gets a kick about very suddenly growing in front of Hank to scare the shit out of him and it always works.

Which one is more likely to need comforting when they get spooked: Janet definitely I think, both exaggerating and genuinely needing comfort when she's scared. She's a very... physical person like that and feels better touching her loved ones, while I don't think Hank needs a whole lot when scared but needs more support in times of grief or loss.

Which one always puts on a brave face: Both of them, comes with the job, Hank does it more but Janet is better at it generally.

Which one would be more dangerous if they suddenly became violent: Both of them tbh but I'll go with Janet, Hank is ultimately A Normal Human Man while Janet is underrated in her strength with her bio blasts n stuff.

Which one would be more likely to commit a crime: Hank is more likely to commit mild crime like stealing or property damage or smoking weed in places where it's not legalised but Janet would like Get In Serious Trouble for embezzling or some shit.

I have a lot of stuff running through my mind rn and im in a hurry and idk if its going to make sense but oh well.

The thing is how much your personality sinks through into your writing and blog thing.

Let me explain,

I lost internet for a few days and I just got it back and was scrolling through tumblr and noticed one of my mutuals reblog something of yours and I was like 'I havent been on the internet for like four days, I wonder what Hella has been up to.' and so I started stalking you (as one does) and like scrolling through your blog and everything and I came across the post you thinged about your hometown and about how shameful you are about your writing and that sent me into a spiral because I know the feeling and couldnt put it into words and I felt so called out.

Thats besides the point.

I had this thing to add to the list for a while and couldn't figure out how to explain it without seeming weird so Im just doing my best here.

It's like when you post things about the things that go on in your mind. I touched on this in my first list thingy with the whole 'when you post little snippets of whats going on in your mind and turn it into what I can only describe as poetyry' part. It's simular but it's not the same.

It's really easy to see someone and follow someone who is so eloquent and brilliant and hold them close to divinity and think about how untouchable they are, which seems weird because I'm on Tumblr of all places. But like when you follow your favorite authors on twitter or instagram and they seem almost inhuman. And sometimes it feels like being that talented is so unattainable because you're not them, you can't spew out flawless lines of words seemingly effortlessly and you cant come up with a plot that clever and even if you can't you can't give the story justice because you're not that good of a writer.

Even other writers on this site are like this and so...ethereal almost. I've mentioned before how a lot of other writer almost run their blog like a business and everything and you scroll through them and see people constantly sending them asks about their works and sending them fanart and people obsessing over their art and like I said it seems unattainable for your average person. Like I dont get that so maybe I'm not that good.

Then I come to your blog and you talk about situations I relate to and you don't hide your humanity and you talk about your classes in economics of all things and your home town and all your problems (while valid) are normal. You're more relatable than the other writers I follow at least.

I've mentioned in other asks ( I dont think they were list ones but they might have been idk ) that you inspire me a lot. This is why. Also the fact that you're my age (I'm 18) and your not in your 20s and you havent taken a decades worth of writing classes and you dont have a degree in literature. You're literally just person living a normal life. That's not to say other authors and writers arent just normal people but you just show it a lot more, idk.

Like reading things like taob and tbos and then going to your main blog and seeing the way you write your stuff in your mind and then going two posts down and your talking about normal things makes me think that maybe I can write something incredible too one day.

And the reason I have the ability to feel that way in relation to you and your stupid blog (affectionate) is because you let your normal personality show, not some robotic businessy- type personality.

That's not to say that I don't think your just an average person, average people can't describe things so rawly. But, like I said, you're not untouchable.

Based on what I see from you and what you show online, I really think that you have the potential to be great one day. Not that you should hold yourself and force yourself into a life you don't want, like if you don't want to be a famous writer, don't be. But I genuinely just hope that you grow up and find a career you're happy in.

More than anyone I see on the internet, you deserve to live a life that you absolutely love, no matter what that might be.

I said it before that I always feel really obsessive when I send asks like this, and I feel creepy, so if I come off that way I'm sorry. I just try to make it a point to tell people when I enjoy them as a person.

The first one if Vienna by Billy Joel. I think the chances of you not knowing this one is very slim because it's such as popular song right now. But it's my favorite song and it reminds me of you.

You know what, i'm a bona fide pessimist. That's really just what being mentally eel is like, but yeah, it's a thing. It's spectacularly easy for me to focus on the things that aren't working out, things that are going wrong, things that are unsatisfactory, focusing on fear and grief and frustration to the point that it's almost all i see.

I like problem solving. I like a good challenge and i like getting rid of problems but for problem solving you first got to acknowledge the problem and sometimes you create problems where there's none because focusing on problems becomes a comfortzone, it feels safe. It is what you know, it is what you're good at. And everybody likes a little bit or a lot of comfortzone.

And the "just think positive thoughts!!! see the bright side!!! there's nothing wrong here keep a gratitude journal count all your blessings!!!" shit never worked for me, i doubt it ever will (HAHA PESSIMISM). When optimistic people try to point out the good things around me and in my life, i often dont percieve it as a geniune offer of help; all i feel is misunderstood, my concerns trivialized and my legit [to me] worries dissmissed. I feel unheard and small, and end up feeling so much resentment towards the aforementioned optimists.

But there's something, i discovered it a month ago, and it's doing wonders for my sanity. There's a long road from pessimism to optimism, it's a long journey and it's not one you can take when you're feeling particularly overwhelmed and terrible.

But there's a relatively short distance from pessimism to neutrality, and it works.

pessimism is a super narrow mindset; so is optimism. In both cases you eliminate and gloss over half of reality in order to keep persevering in what you think is the key to survival. Neutrality is the ground between the two, it's where most of life happens. It's where things aren't good or bad, they're just complex and nuanced and real with all the good and bad and everything inbetween.

And neutrality is the space in which your point of view expands.

So what i've been doing is, when i start to hyperfocus on things that are going wrong and it's all i see, i tell myself that it's okay, and what i percieve is true. It's legit, it exists, i accept it. But it's not the entire picture as i think it is; it's only half of it, most likely even less than half of it. And then i keep asking "what else? what more is here? what am i not seeing?" and most often it's the neutral things, besides the obvious goodness in the world. Neutral grounds in which nothing too big or extraordinary is happening, small stuff that dont feel special. "This tastes terrible" turns into "this has a sharp taste. I dont have a preference for sharp taste; i have a preference for sweets." "this person is being mean" turns into "this person exists in the same space as me, they're using their vocal chords and producing words. humans tend to do that."

And suddenly the world is so much more bearable to be in. I catalogue taste, touch, sound,smell,sight notes in the environment in a neutral language ("this table is dark blue; the edges have been rounded up to avoid injury"), and it actually helps me to catalogue the goodness in my environment too, simply because neutrality is inclusive, it doesn't cut off mountains of data just to keep you on your respective bullshit. Neutrality is where you say, "that's true. What else do you see?"

I watched Aquaman (2018) two weeks ago and I am STILL thinking about how. *gestures as if to try and decide*... how inconsistent? it is. And I honestly don't know what to call it.

On the one hand, I do love that Arthur is reluctant and not interested in being king. He doesn't want power, hes got enough. Ultimately, he becomes king because he wants to save his world (in context its clear he means the Surface, human world) and sure ok if that means saving Atlantis, ok.

Problem is, beside the drama of "who deserves to be king"... is Orm even doing a bad job? Why does he NOW want to become king and Ocean Master? Atlantis wasn't any more on the verge of being discovered than when people first realized Arthur might be part Atlantean. Sure, someone has to be a villain, and being denied confirmation that he is the "true heir" because he didnt have uh Atlan's trident is a doozy but its been centuries since anyone has had it? So he was feeling threatened by... his older half-brother who.... *checks notes* didnt fucking want to be king.

Ok, so Orm was the villain because (for whatever reason) he Just Now Decided to culminate all his plans to force the title Ocean Master unto himself. As far as we know, (although movie 2 will hopefully touch on this) Orm had not been looking for the trident. If Arthur and Mera found it in like 2 days, how did Orm not find it in yanno at least two decades?

"Well," you say, "it was because Vulko and Mera didn't find the hologram recording thing until Just Now."

So why didn't they give it to Orm? Because he... "isn't the true heir"? Who is deciding that? If Orm doesn't even get to TRY to get the trident, because he doesnt know where it is, because he doesnt have the hologram message from Atlan... how could anyone possibly know Arthur is the "true" heir? He's 100% Atlantean, second son of the last (previous) queen of Atlantis. Sure, hes the second son, but hes the first 100% Atlantean son.

(I'm not gonna go into the absolute BULLSHIT that is Atlan's message... its so fucking stupid im so 😤 about it. Its stupid. Not to be on the side of cinemasins bc they're assholes but if they had a monolog about it and gave it more than 1 "sin" I say rightly so! If they didnt... not surprised bc that channel is lame and yet I still think of them. Sigh. I digress.)

So then we look at Vulko and Mera. What would they know about Arthur that he (or anyone else) doesn't know? Maybe that he... saved the world with the Justice League? That he can speak to aquatic animals unlike any other Atlantean (was Atlan able to? Methinks he was, so was he half-human, half-Atlantean, too? More on that... another time) can? That Vulko made a promise to Atlanna that he would protect Arthur? And Mera had NO reason to go with Arthur, no reason to betray her nation and family, no reason to forsake her betrothal beside the fact that... uh. *checks notes again* Arthur is... hot, and that we have to have a romantic coupling by the end of this movie.

And I dont know if its Amber Heard or the writing, but I have written better romances at the age of thirteen than the writers did for this movie. They brush hands once, he catches her when she stumbles from the statue thing (I think??), I guess we can count her betraying her home just for a hot dude (can't relate) as a romantic gesture... but he doesn't do anything for her.

Which is funny. Especially when you look at the times she kisses him, she initiates both times. Or maybe just the one time? I remember two, but one is dramatic (cinematic, even?) underwater and another is shorter and above water, and he seems surprised by both. Which makes me uncomfortable, especially his surprise. We obviously don't have a lot to go on to see how he acts around women, beside Wonder Woman, and I can't remember what he says to her in Justice League (beside some probably bad jokes and stuff bc its ... well. Anyway.) so like for all we know hes suave and charming etc or a complete dummy and Just Gets Lucky.

But like. The romance doesn't make any sense. Shes interested in him, hes fine (?) with it, but is that enough to betray your world's previous tranquility? We don't really get to see what Orm got up to, so we don't know what kind of king he is.

(Sidenote: its interesting to see what they considered pros and cons for Orm and Arthur, and how they didn't know Arthur helped stop uh. Whats-his-face from destroying the planet. BUT who controls the pros/cons list and maybe they didn't want anyone in the audience to know he was a world-saving ☆hero☆.)

So Vulko. The one who knew both Arthur and Orm, made a promise to Atlanna about Arthur but potentially not about Orm. Not to look at Wilem Defoe and say "man only plays betrayers and villains, I dont trust him" only to be surprised that Vulko did in fact stay true to the protagonist of the story. Vulko effectively chose who the "true" heir was out of Atlanna's sons.

Why?

No idea. Beside Arthur being the first-born.

So they should have made Arthur the second-born son. Not only would his half status be more of a "disadvantage", but it would make Arthur's reluctance more sensible and Orm's confidence more concrete, more clearly defining why they were doing what they were doing. Orm defending his birthright as first-born would have been more interesting than second-born grasping for it, where Arthur being second-born but reluctantly being pushed to claim the older brother's right as his own more controversial and dangerous. ALSO it would have made more sense for Atlanna to be condemned to the Trench because she first of all was wounded (?) on the shore near Tom's lighthouse and so I dont think she meant to be there, but is she really to be punished by falling in love with someone who rescued her and helped her heal? Is it really her fault to have a child with the person who evidently helped her learn about humanity as something not inferior but equal in a different way than expected (a potential reach but let me live). Is it so bad that she had her firstborn as a half human?

But I guess there is the crux of the problem, which ultimately is on patriarchal bullshit than on her "fault". She did choose that her first child was half-human. And why didn't she just return to Atlantis after being healed/nursed back to health? Why did she stay? Was there something that made her reluctant? Who did the condemning? Also, who the fuck is Orm's father? Where was he in the story?

Atlanna wasn't interested in returning to Atlantis, at least not until Arthur was older so that he could learn to be the prince and heir of the nation. I think she did mean to return when he was older. She called him a king of his people, agreed to name him after a strong and good (according to legend) king. (Arthur was also the name of a storm which hello hello so sexy I wanna write another paragraph on that but not Right Now.) She planned to bring Arthur to Atlantis to unite the Surface and Ocean nations. Was that so much a crime to cast her into the Trench, after, of course, bearing another son to take the throne?

Why was Arthur the true heir, according to the movie? The story's universe? Who decided this, or what? Why? Why not Orm? Because Arthur had a hero's reluctance, which is often apparently a good thing, (it is, it so fucking is, to see a hero reluctant to be a victor because of the necessary sacrifices. A selfish hero who wins is better than an arrogant hero who wins for self-gain and power.) over his brother's expectations of being king because he's 100% Atlantean?

I dont get it. Leaves me with suspicions and doubts and questions.

I dont trust Vulko or Mera. The Mera and Arthur romance is suspicious and I dont trust it, either.

Im excited for the second movie to see if any of this is clarified, or if its just going to be moved past and I'm gonna be floundering asking "hey what the fuck" as I get more information but No Answers.

Krorys arc? Bangs. Straight up. (Dgm rewatch)

Analysis below. Spoilers for s1eps19-23.

So. Innocence has a life of its own, we knew that more or less—but Allens left hand reacting while he was unconscious? The thing with Mana… did mana “give” him his left eye and are they, like bonded eternally or smth? It certainly seems like Mana is still in Allen, somehow, as he seems to take over his eye and body. The visual metaphor of Manas skull merging w Allens comes to mind.

Also interesting that his sight out of that eye is black and white. Allen certainly seems to think akuma=wrong and human=right (b&w thinking), though thats been…changing. Kind of. Road showed him that humans can be bad, even tho I dont think Allen believed her when she insisted that she was human.

On that topic. Krory says smth along the lines of “you? Human? Youre a monster like me” to Allen, presumably referencing arm and eye and hair etc. cool line. I want more of this questioning humanity.

Which. I know the “pentacle” aka pentagram above Allens eye has always been attributed to the fact that it was given by an akuma. Its just-an interesting idea. Brings me back to “did mana leave some part of himself w allen?” Literally and metaphorically. That, or its just metaphor for how much Allen loves him and how his eye is symbolic of everything involving him (love, loss, grief). He literally says “welcome back, mana” when his eyesight is healed in ep21. Also note that his pentacle is now filled in. Interesting.

And… akumas have wants. Beliefs. Eliade desires humanity—not ownership, but to be a member of it. Jeez. She admits herself that she is a killing machine programmed to murder, though she wants to be human more than anything. This is horribly sad and the ending, with Krory killing her, is very fitting. Why the hell did Earl give his robots emotions? Is…is there something wrong with Allen and the other exorcists killing them? Is there potential for a redeemed akuma? Eliades soul was still imprisoned and in pain beside her, so perhaps not. Just a thought.

Briefly—I actually really like Krory and Eliades story. Its a touch expository, but I like it and its discussion about love. Though Allens speech about how Krory should become an exorcist for Eliades death might be more reflective of his own motivations than anything to do w Krory. Esp w all the mana stuff we got this arc.

Also, Ive switched to sub. Allens voice fits way better imo. Hes so tiny.
