Okay, dollblr, I need your help

My friend's doll collection was stolen on May 19th by his shitty landlord. Charges have been filed, but the landlord and the moving company he used to transport the dolls and other stolen property have been uncooperative in giving the information needed to trace and recover the dolls.

I'm asking that this post be shared as far and wide as possible so he has some hope of getting his most beloved and distinctive dolls back.

If anyone sees a massive dump of Ringdolls and Dollfie Dreams on Mercari, eBay, or Facebook, especially in/around/from the Louisville, KY area, please contact me so I can let him know.

I will update as we assess the full extent of the loss, but the dolls we're asking people to keep an eye out for at the moment are

Ringdoll K fullset edition with attached hair, NS. No outfit. Distinctive features: One magnet fell out and was put back in back upside down, so his headcap doesn't stay closed.

DIM Minimee Ruki head, NS. Distinctive features: Vampire mod.

Custom House Mina (both Saint Mina and LE Sad Mina), NS

Ringdoll Quiz, GS, fullset

Bobobie Pixie. Distinctive features: sky blue skin that yellowed to a minty color. Probably wearing green pajamas with brown airplanes made by me.

ResinSoul Yao, WS. His first doll, probably yellowed a fair bit by now. Distinctive features: a small chip on one of her horns.

DIM Minimee heads of all Gazette and Dir En Grey members. If these turn up as a lot, contact us, it's probably them.

Felix's Face

@starheartsdreams gave Felix an absolutely beautiful faceup. He looks so pretty, his skin looks so soft...ahhh I'm obsessed.

They also made him the gray hoodie! I made him some plaid shorts (the first decent pair of pants I've made!) and modified a knockoff American Girl tank top to fit him. The socks are for AG-sized dolls as well, and the boots were from some shitty AG knockoff and don't actually fit him perfectly but look pretty good until I can get him his own. He can't stand in them though, haha. Also, the pattern for the hoodie and the pants I modified into shorts are both available from Missy's Imaginings.

I really enjoyed working on sewing projects for him! I'm hoping to make him some longer pants this week as well. I just did an elastic waist for my first attempt, I didn't want anything too complicated.

Excuse me, Felix, who said you were allowed to be so pretty?

Louisville Doll Theft Update

So I posted a couple weeks back about my friend whose landlord stole his doll collection, and I have good news and bad news.

The good news is we were able to track down one of the trucks. The bad news is that it belonged to a charity donation pickup that just ended up with their clothes and furniture after everything else had been taken by the "cleaners."

After calling all the cleaners and junk haulers in the area, we've narrowed it down to two, the first admitted to working with Barrett Goff/Allodium in the past but acted a little squirrely when I mentioned stolen property and said they hadn't been on that side of town that week, but the guy was otherwise sweet and cooperative, and said company policy is to donate anything not broken. The second admitted they let their employees just grab and take whatever, then got an attitude and said they "couldn't confirm or deny involvement," and told us to come back with a warrant. They're the only ones out of the internet's entire trove of KY Louisville area junk haulers that refused to give answers, which is pretty sus.

(Who, in the course of a normal conversation, says stuff like "can neither confirm nor deny involvement"? Not sure if these guys are guilty or just extra...)

Anyway, with nothing turning up on online resale platforms, the next stop is flea markets. As they're working extra gigs to save for a new place (and a lawyer), I'm hoping to save them a PI fee by organizing a sweep with people in the area, to run through local flea markets and see if anyone's trying to sell a massive doll collection. They already can't afford HRT anymore, if they have to pay a pi and a lawyer, getting justice will get prohibitively expensive both financially and personally

If you are local to the Louisville KY area, even if you're not in the hobby, please dm me and I'll go over the ones we haven't eliminated by phone yet. They've been advised to get a private investigator, but they really don't have that kind of money lying around after being robbed and left homeless. If I can get enough Baker Street Irregulars together to help, we can let them use their savings for a lawyer.

Again, the collection is made up of mostly Ringdoll, DIM, ResinSoul/Bobobie, and some Soom. Also among the more distinctive dolls we're trying to recover are Custom House Saint Mina and LE Sad Mina, an Island Doll Shukaku ver. 2 fullset, and a secondhand Volks free choice girl with goth vampire faceup and antique-looking dress.

If anyone knows attorneys who take cases for cheap or pro bono, please contact me so I can refer them. They've applied to the ACLU, but with the organization's workload these days, it's kind of a crapshoot.

I love purple people.

It's a color I wish I could be. It's one of the reasons I dress up as Ursula.

My first Asian BJD was a Bobbie Pixie. She was purple, originally. That early purple color wasn't stable, though and she's faded evenly to a grey. I'm contemplating a round of blushing to bring her color back. I don't trust my ability to dye her.

I just acquired that Twilight Sparkle EG doll as a big sister for Unia the Pixling.

Ok, I've got a few dolls and figures in deep storage, too, but these are the ones who are handy. I have an early MH Operetta, a purple Barbie sparkle fairy, a black star sorceress Mara, and several Ursula dolls in various sizes.

I've been pursuing a Kitty Cheshire too, but the ones in good condition are pricey and the affordable ones have often been modded or are trashed.

I would *love* to acquire an Impldoll Fantasia on the special pearlized lilac resin but she's pricey and getting harder and harder to find.

I also have wistful feelings about a Resinsoul Liu in purple, but I'm not as fond of BBB/RS's new purple color.

Yes, I also love fantasy ears. I have pointed ears myself, so I prefer pointy-eared dolls.

Yup. Once I realized that I've been collecting BJDs for five whole years, it's made me a little introspective.

So this is the one and only legit sculpt by Luo Lugoi - an honest-to-dog legitimate sculpt from Oueneifs:

And yes, I own her.

Arguably, she was "inspired" by other companies, but plenty other BJD companies are "inspired" by each other. See - Impldoll's new 1/4 "plump" body.

My stance on recasts went from stridently angry, to curious, to nuanced - not in the sense of being "recast-positive" or even "recast-neutral." Let's call it "recast-pragmatic." The arguments around recasts by pro-artists, which I am absolutely sympathetic to BTW, are that people shouldn't buy recasts. Agreed.

But they are.

See, the problem with this argument is that it reminds me strongly of another line of argument - the one in favor of abstinence-only education. Different subject matters, yes, but the type of argument is identical.

"Children shouldn't be having sex!"

Agreed. But they are.

"But they shouldn't be!"

I accept your argument. But they're doing it anyway, and we can't seem to stop them. So: what are we going to do to minimize the harm? Cuz abstinence-only education appears to increase harm.

And that is where my nuance falls on recasts now. YES, people should not be buying them. YES, they are theft. YES, Luo Lugoi has zero excuse when companies like Guard Love, Ao Ling Shi, and Resinsoul/Bobobie have been making beautiful, affordable, legitimate resin dolls.

But people are buying them. And saying they shouldn't be doesn't change the fact that they are.

So. What do we do to minimize the harm? What worked in the past? What didn't work?

And that's my post about recasts. Hopefully a little different from what you've read before.

No, I agree with this anon, every owner photo I saw of a Resinsoul or Bobobie were very obviously a Resinsoul or Bobobie, no amount of modding or faceup optical illusions would change that. I'd rather not buy a doll at all than settle for any of these dolls, and it's just personal preference for aesthetic, not elitism in the slightest.

Unboxing!

My newest doll arrived today! He is a Bobobie Apollo. I attempted to buy a second-hand one a few months ago when I saw him listed on fb and fell madly in love, but the seller fucked off without sending him for several months, so one Paypal dispute later I discovered they were in stock at DDE and got one.

Jinx supervised the whole process, of course. He also attempted to abscond with the wig etc. Jinx usually prefers to try to steal doll shoes but my doll didn't have any yet so he settled.

His wig, some panties so he's not just chillin' wang-out all the time, etc etc. And there he is! I like the Bobobie bag, but I wouldn't try to say it three times fast.

HE EMERGES! We had to restring him a little (thank you to @starheartsdreams for doing the hard stuff) because his arms were floppy. And with his wig! he looks sooo cute. (Briefly tried some blue eyes in his head, but they didn't fit right.)

I've named him Felix; his character is flirty, outgoing, cheerful, playful, and dating my much more laid back vampire hunter Victor. Oh, Felix is also cursed with psychic powers but he'd prefer not to talk about that.

He'll be getting a faceup hopefully soon, but the weather isn't sealant-friendly right now. Still, he's adorable and I love him! I'm working on some clothes for him, as is Damien because they got really invested in my doll during the whole saga with the failed second-hand sale. We also stuck some American Girl clothes on him, which fit...okayish.

He likes the off-shoulder look, anyway.
