SAY HIS NAME: Nex Benedict, another 16 YEAR OLD was murdered in Oklahoma, news channels are deadnaming and misgendering him, just like with Brianna Ghey here in the UK. But I urge you to not let your grief drive you to despair. GET ANGRY. Do not become apathetic, do not let grief numb you. Stand united as a community, lean on each other, have each others back. Reach out to any trans individuals of any age and make sure they have support in some capacity. Speak with your family, your political representatives, your school, anywhere, with anyone, that may be able to make some change, whether big or small. Everything builds, that is the power of a movement, of solidarity. If you make life a bit safer for one trans youth once, then you may have saved their life that day. And that kid might then show some other kid that there is hope, and so they live as well. And it grows.

If I told you someone was murdered in a high school bathroom, and the school did nothing to help, and the murderers were only suspended for two weeks, there would be a fucking uprising. A riot.

so why is it that nobody cares as soon as it’s the two-spirited (sorry for the prev mistake) kid?

The people who want to do something about it are scared, because it could have so easily been them. It’s still possible for it to be them.

because the murder won’t stop unless people start speaking up and saying that what happened was wrong.

Hello everyone, I was attacked unprovoked on the Subway yesterday. I believe I was targeted because I was wearing my pride shirt work uniform I am also a bisexual woman with a very public presence on the internet and in the city as I am a performer at Ellen’s Stardust Diner in Times Square. I was beaten badly and taken to hospital by ambulance. It took two phone calls to 911 and an hour wait for police to arrive, so clearly my assailant got away. The cops also victim blamed me for the attack as if sitting quietly with your AirPods on is somehow not being vigilant enough at 3 o’clock in the afternoon on a busy subway car. But what else do we expect from the NYPD at this point. I have large bruises and giant swellings on the right side of my head, and it’s caused my vision to blur, my hearing is gone because my eardrum is filled with fluid and I am dizzy and nauseas all the time. Laying down is painful because of the contusions but sitting up is miserable too. Until my visions improves, my hearing returns and my bruises and swelling fade I don’t know when I’ll be able to return to work not even considering the fear of taking the subway now. I also want white people to realize that it is incredibly common for two-spirit people to use a different label and pronouns when in predominantly white queer spaces because of how two spirits are treated. You can also be trans and nonbinary and also two-spirit separately.

When Nex’s community say they claim them as two-spirit, I believe them. Nex was one of our relations and the whole two-spirit community is grieving them. Please understand this is even more personal for Natives because this is yet another MMIP case that officials are attempting to swipe under the rug.

This is a gut punch to read. I've seen "old folks" go through that journey of gaining understanding. Ideally it wouldn't need to be a whole journey but there's something loving in people willing to grow.

But not knowing just how at risk they might be ... from this kind of violence.

For those who don't know, Nex Benedict, an American indigenous non-binary 16 years old, died in February 8. And I said died, but they were murdered: they passed away the day after three girls (whose names are still kept hidden) attacked them and their friends in the bathroom of the Owasso high school in Oklahoma. They were beated, insulted, and possibly suffered serious damage in the face and head. The next day, they collapsed and was declared dead at the hospital.

The school did and has done nothing. The teachers have done nothing. The police has done nothing. A kid died and the world stays silent. If Nex hadn't been indigenous or non-binary, then the whole country would have turned upside down.

Trans people deserve to live. Non-binary people deserve to live. Indigenous people deserve to live.

One of my close childhood friends is trans. He's also forced to go to the women's bathroom. Will he be the next victim? Who else will have to suffer for us to learn? When will justice be served?

We won't forget, Nex, and we won't forgive.

A friend of mine was at Pulse that same night. She got sick to her stomach and left about an hour before the shooting happened.

I didn't know she'd left early when I heard the news. It's nothing like the experience of actually being there, but Pulse is burned into my mind because of it. I can't even describe the fear I felt, I'd never wish it on anyone.

Dear Nex,

you were a child. and we failed you. our children are the future, and we couldn’t even give you a future. it has been 16 days since you died, one for each year of your life, and nothing has been done. This is a horrible injustice, but the worst injustice of all, is the loss of your life.

I am so sorry, and I pray that God has embraced you in his loving arms, and assured you that you were made in his perfect, holy, image. I am so sorry for what happened, and what didn’t happen.

I did not know you. I did not know your name, or what you were like. I did not know your favorite food, or television show, or book. I did not know if you liked coffee, or if you sat strangely in chairs. I did not know if you had ever been to a Dennys, or if your dinners were always homemade. I did not know your name until February 8th, 2024. I did not know you, and now I never will. But I do understand.

I understand what it is like to be hated. I understand what it is like to be told you are worthless. I know what it is like to have nothing done about an injustice.

and I know what it is like to feel scared.

I am so sorry. I cried for you last night. I cried for the beautiful person you were, and the beautiful adult you will never be.

I hope you are in heaven, or whatever afterlife you believed in. I hope that you are respected and loved, for eternity and beyond.

I am so sorry. You didn’t deserve this. It was not your fault.

I am praying for you. I am praying for your family, and your friend. I am praying that justice is served.

Louisville Doll Theft Update

So I posted a couple weeks back about my friend whose landlord stole his doll collection, and I have good news and bad news.

The good news is we were able to track down one of the trucks. The bad news is that it belonged to a charity donation pickup that just ended up with their clothes and furniture after everything else had been taken by the "cleaners."

After calling all the cleaners and junk haulers in the area, we've narrowed it down to two, the first admitted to working with Barrett Goff/Allodium in the past but acted a little squirrely when I mentioned stolen property and said they hadn't been on that side of town that week, but the guy was otherwise sweet and cooperative, and said company policy is to donate anything not broken. The second admitted they let their employees just grab and take whatever, then got an attitude and said they "couldn't confirm or deny involvement," and told us to come back with a warrant. They're the only ones out of the internet's entire trove of KY Louisville area junk haulers that refused to give answers, which is pretty sus.

(Who, in the course of a normal conversation, says stuff like "can neither confirm nor deny involvement"? Not sure if these guys are guilty or just extra...)

Anyway, with nothing turning up on online resale platforms, the next stop is flea markets. As they're working extra gigs to save for a new place (and a lawyer), I'm hoping to save them a PI fee by organizing a sweep with people in the area, to run through local flea markets and see if anyone's trying to sell a massive doll collection. They already can't afford HRT anymore, if they have to pay a pi and a lawyer, getting justice will get prohibitively expensive both financially and personally

If you are local to the Louisville KY area, even if you're not in the hobby, please dm me and I'll go over the ones we haven't eliminated by phone yet. They've been advised to get a private investigator, but they really don't have that kind of money lying around after being robbed and left homeless. If I can get enough Baker Street Irregulars together to help, we can let them use their savings for a lawyer.

Again, the collection is made up of mostly Ringdoll, DIM, ResinSoul/Bobobie, and some Soom. Also among the more distinctive dolls we're trying to recover are Custom House Saint Mina and LE Sad Mina, an Island Doll Shukaku ver. 2 fullset, and a secondhand Volks free choice girl with goth vampire faceup and antique-looking dress.

If anyone knows attorneys who take cases for cheap or pro bono, please contact me so I can refer them. They've applied to the ACLU, but with the organization's workload these days, it's kind of a crapshoot.
