Bakugaiden IV — English Subs by Steamy Jimmy and Yume

Probably a fair amount of you following this blog have heard this by now, but Bakugaiden IV has been fully subbed by Steamy Jimmy (legato on BombermanBoard if any of y'all hang out there) with the help of Yume! Never thought I'd see the day, but if anyone would've done it I'm not surprised it was him. Find the YouTube playlist here.

NOTE #1: As of this writing, only 44 out of the 48 eps are up. As explained here on BombermanBoard, this was done to give people a chance to watch the series and then enjoy the last 4 episodes together with others during a watch party.

NOTE #2: There are plans to sub Bakugaiden V as well, but it seems like we won't see that until 2025 or so.

A show that gives me so much childhood nostalgia suddenly surfaced on my mind again

Looking at B-Daman Bakugaiden (a bomberman anime series but... with marbles)

My first introduction to the series was literally a random image my dad printed on a shirt when I was a wee little child, then I found clips of it on youtube and thought like "hey! This has characters on my shirt! Must be cool"

Literally understood nothing about the show since it was not translated, but the images itself literally clung onto the back of my brain, living rent free and occassionally making some noise to remind me that it exists

Which is now. Now I notice it exists and seeing how someone has (kinda) fully translated it??? I'm going to explode

Bakugaiden IV & V Available For Streaming (Japan Only)

Well, this would explain why the subs got nuked earlier this year. It seems that both Bakugaiden series are now available for streaming on d-anime Store (dアニメストア).

d-anime Store is a streaming service owned by Japanese mobile phone service Docomo. For ¥550/month, users can watch current anime episodes 24 hours after initial airing as well as older series. The site offers a free trial period, but signing up requires a Japanese phone number, so streaming Bakugaiden is pretty much locked to Japan for now. No indication yet of what this means for future Bakugaiden news.

BTMND's resident translator, Sakaki, has additional commentary on the site formerly known as Twitter.

Look at that. Three different Sonas that are not going on the list!! Mainly because these aren't the only design ideas I have. These are the main trio that came to their world recently. (Well, Bonba did. The other two were there for a while.)

Foursona Bonba (also named Hikari)

Bonba = Bonbaman (the Japanese name for Bomberman)

~He's caring, yet he gets shunned by everyone else in his universe for being too nice ~Never got to host his BFB because no one would take him or B-Da seriously ~He's best friends with B-Da and Jetter ~Was created because the galaxy needed a new hero suddenly. No one knows why. ~Frightened that a Black Hole is a real character ~Also afraid of his universe's Flower (because she never got character development.. no BFB = no Flower redemption arc) ~Friends with Tennis Ball, but not Golf Ball

X-sona B-Da (also named Kiiro)

B-Da is based on the Bomberman B-Daman Bakugaiden series of anime. Hence why he looks different, and is slightly shorter than Bonba.

~The middle-ground in terms of heights.. at least compared to his two friends ~Wants to be taken seriously, despite his goofy appearance (and antics) ~Thinks friendship will solve all the worlds problems, and has even drawn a chart with crayons displaying this ideology ~Was created when his original world was destroyed, and arrived in Bonba and Jetter's Algebra Playground from.. literally falling from the sky like a meteor ~If he shoots you with those beads, it's gonna hurt! ~Likes to hang out with his universe's Rocky, despite his universe's Cloudy not trusting him b/c of the beads ~Collects bottles to use them as target practice, but not his universe's Bottle! That's rude, since she's alive

Twosona Jetter (also named Midori)

Jetter is based on Bomberman Jetters… and mainly it's main character Shirobon. Yes that means in this universe, he's the youngest of the Algebraliens.

~Short-ass ~No seriously, he's short, not just because he's the youngest ~Gets made fun of by Zero ~Not taken seriously, not even when he points out he has two bomb badges ~Bonba gets easily annoyed with his antics sometimes, because it tends to derail from what everyone else is doing ~Regardless, Bonba and B-Da are still friends with him ~Somehow befriended his universe's Firey Jr., and intends on befriending every universe's Firey Jr.! Somehow.

(Everyone else below has the bare minimum of info. Names and some info.)

Zeroes -> Zero (Just singular. He's this universe's exquivalent to Max. He's the rival to Jetter.) One -> Ao (She's the smartest, yet also tends to get sleepy fast. She isn't lazy, she just has less energy than everyone else.) Three -> Aka (He's the hothead, yet he never talks. He's pretty violent still, always resorting to the use of his bombs instead of trying to use ASL.) Five -> Murasaki/Paple (More vain than Kuro. Thinks he's cooler than Shiro because he's got a longer name. Despite being more cringy than Shiro.) Six -> Mizuiro (Rich girl who gets vengeful towards those that perceive her as arrogant and lazy. She isn't, she's got the best throw out of all the numbers. And she doesn't flaunt her fortune around all the time.. sometimes she does, but most of the time, she doesn't.) Seven -> Kuro (They are vain and think they are better at bombing than Bonba. However she at least knows when to hold her tongue when it's not the time for her vain attempts at attention.) Eight -> Shirokuro (He's the more.. normal of these people. Also permanently in monochrome, and has an old-timey filter over his voice. Nobody knows why his voice does that.) Nine -> Shiro (The cool dude who has the most radical bombs! Even though they are just normal bombs with stickers on them. He's also Murasaki's rival, and is friends with Mizuiro.) Ten -> Daidaiiro (The guy that everyone seems to enjoy. Not much else is known about them though.) Fourteen -> Kurai (The one that eats skin. Also is infected with a virus that hasn't been able to spread to the others yet.) Fifteen -> Kasai (The gal who owns a flamethrower, and who always has Max Fire on her bombs. Everyone doesn't mess with her because of that.)
