Knowing that the whole shit with Mimic was so that the Port Mafia could attain a special ability buisness license.
Really makes me wonder why Natsume didn't give them one sooner?
I mean he gave one to the Agency at least 8 years ago. Because untold origins is 12 years prior to canon and Dark Era is 4 years prior to canon.
So what was this some kind of test? Because Natsume is the reason Odasaku stopped killing. So why, why do all of that just so Mori can have him kill and die here?
Was it to get Dazai to switch organisations? Because Natsume was around him and Dazai seemingly knew who he was.
Did Natsume know Mori's plan? I assume so because of how close those two seem to be. Was it even completly Mori's plan?
Somethings very fishy about all of this.

I like to think that Oda would let Dazai stay over at his place sometimes back then. (Because Mr. Demon Prodigy didn't have no proper house).

You know how “the moon is beautiful tonight, isn’t it?” is used as an expression for love confessions? It’s said that Natsume Soseki came up with it after overhearing a student translate “I love you” to Japanese in a very literal sense. While there is no source confirming that this exchange actually happened, I still think a scene referencing the expression with Natsume randomly appearing would be hilarious

Wanna know what else I'm obsessed with?
It's Natsume. Lots of people forget about him or never even really noticed him. but I did and he is honestly the most unsettling character to me.
He is constantly around Dazai, watching throughout 15 and dark era and he spies on the agency/Dazai? in the present timeline too.
He appears around PM Dazai all the time unless he is with Mori or Chuuya but not Odasaku. He watched the lupin trio.
It's not just the watching, it's the interfering. He gave Oda that book, that book that made Oda who he is and in turn made Dazai who he is.
Was Mori really the only one who made the decisions about Oda dying? Why was there no other choice unless it was a part of a bigger plan?
He put Mori in a prime position where he would be called upon to treat the old mafia boss, where he could learn and understand that the city was falling apart. For a lot of that time the person giving him orders was Natsume.
Natsume was the one who hired Fukuzawa to be Mori's body guard.
Natsume was the one who made the detective agency a possibility.
He is the one who put Mori and Fukuzawa in charge of opposite organisations. What else did he do?
How did Mori find Yosano? Where did Dazai come from? How did the guild know about Atsushi?
Time and time again Natsume shows up to create a chain of events leading up to creating a perfect pair who could cause devastation and/or save the city.
He started with Mori and Fukuzawa, Mori who would continue this line of succession by creating soukoku, Dazai and Chuuya. Mori even quotes something Natsume told him. "only diamonds can polish diamonds."
Dazai, with Natsume possibly guiding him, goes on to find his own diamonds to be polished and creates Shin soukoku.
Everything that has happened can stem from Natsume, a character we rarely see and isn't outwardly stated as important. What is he hiding?

The ADA dorms pt 4
Natsume: *sitting dramatically on a rooftop* Ah it is so wonderful to see that my three party framework has become successful. The alliance between the Port Mafia and the Armed Detective Agency will usher a new era of pea.. ... what the fuck
Chuuya: *leaving Dazai's room through the window and flying off* Akutagawa: *leaves Atsushi's room using Rashomon to slink into an alleyway* Mori: *walks quickly out of Fukuzawas room with a black trench coat and a big hat* Kouyou: *Kisses Yosano at her door and strolls calmly to the street and into a car*
Natsume: I cant deal with this shit

mori would indeed have predicted the true culprit but it was that if he hadn’t given the pm someone to point fingers at, outrage would pour out—and in cutting his losses, he found that it was safer to play along with whatever dazai had planned. as for how the pm reacted when they found out about chuuya’s innocence: akutagawa was baffled—for what reason did dazai have to push out one of their best? kouyou was heartbroken despite having maintained the position that chuuya was innocent—as seen in previous posts, she tried to convince him to come back after his name was cleared.

Hi, may I please request BSD men with an s/o who has the ability to regenerate and as a result, is rather reckless in battle because they're functionally immortal?
-Sincerely, 💋
confidence in conflict
Tumblr media
synopsis - your ability gave you a great confidence in battle, but maybe that wasn't a good thing
includes - ranpo, sigma, ayatsuji, natsume
warnings - gn!reader, fluff, slight angst, hints toward death/getting hurt, wc - 601
Tumblr media
ranpo edogawa ★↷
↪ranpo himself doesn't normally do field missions involving conflict to no ones surprise. the only times he really goes is if he needs something else for the case.
↪so normally most of the time he demands either you or a coworker you went with to know if you're okay, whoever he finds first.
↪ however because you could regenerate he would ask how reckless you were. he didn't really have to worry about you getting hurt but if you ever put yourself in dangerous situations because of your ability he would worry.
↪and he wouldn't hesitate to scold you. it wasn't really scolding, more making you feel guilty for making him worry. but atleast he could find comfort in knowing no matter how far you would be you would be okay.
sigma ★↷
↪sigma was rather indifferent about combat. he knew it would become unavoidable in some situations but he would also stave it off for as long as possible. it wasn't his favoured option.
↪but you were on the opposite end of the spectrum. your ability gave you a great sense of confidence in combat and didn't pick your fights wisely, opting to engage in fights whenever you had the chance.
↪and you were reckless in the fights themselves. this initially made sigma worry constantly, he had finally found someone he wanted to believe would never use him and he could trust - he didn't want to lose that, lose you.
↪but when he came to know of your ability he felt almost a false confidence. he could feel slightly better that you probably wouldn't be gravely hurt but he knew anything could render your ability useless - especially fatal wounds.
↪he would always tell you to be careful. he didn't want to lose the only person he could believe wouldn't use him.
yukito ayatsuji ★↷
↪ ayatsuji was a rather cocky man, that was no surprise to anyone. he didn't really enage in combat however as he found little use for it and anyone he wanted rid off... well his ability could take care of that.
↪and he couldn't help the smug grin that formed when he witnessed how reckless you were in battle. mainly because he knew why, your ability.
↪he found it rather interesting that you had such confidence because of your ability and he couldn't blame you, he'd probably do the same. but when it came to being closer to you he'd hide his worry.
↪he also had confidence in your ability to keep you safe but he knew life was cruel. there was nothing stopping something drastic happening that could render your ability useless and your recklessness would finally catch up to you.
natsume soseki ★↷
↪natsume lived most his life in the quiet solitude only found living as a cat. he knew he had quite a few undesirable people looking for him and so he preferred that life rather than seeking out the conflicts they'd want.
↪and while he'd urge you to do the same, he knew he couldn't stop you entirely from rushing into a conflict without a care in the world. perhaps he did actually like that about you, one of your charms per say.
↪he undestood that you had great confidence in your ability and he did too but he'd still scold you. everytime you threw yourself recklessly into battle would earn you a light scolding.
↪the last thing he'd ever want was for you to get hurt, or worse. he'd rather throw himself into a conflict with those who want him gone than see you get hurt.

Atsushi just wants Akutugawa to be happy. He just wants him to understand that he's more than a killing machine.
You can do so many things, you're holding yourself back and I want you to see you're true potential.
He doesn't stop Akutugawa from killing because he's against killing. It's so that Akutugawa can learn the value of life, see that his life can be more than looking for the next kill.
He's the Natsume to Akutugawa's Odasaku.

I think Dazai, while young, became attached to Natsume when Natsume was lonely and so was he (which is why he calls him Sensei in the Dark Era, like the protagonist in Kokoro); that Natsume brought Dazai to Mori after Dazai attempted suicide (which is why Dazai never touches him in Bar Lupin, why Natsume follows him from the Port Mafia to his meeting with Taneda and then to the Agency, why Dazai knows Natsume well enough to allude to his history to Tanizaki and to recieve the jump drive Natsume brings him in the Cannibalism arc— Dazai knows him); and that Natsume performed a partial skill transfer similar to Kyouka's mother to ensure it could not come that close ever again (and that's why Dazai is one of the few if not only touch/contact-based skill users whose is involuntary).
I think No Longer Human isn't merely nullification, I think (similar to how Bram's skill reverses death but through the framework of vampirism and Atsushi's slices skills and regenerates in addition to his transformations), there is more to Dazai's skill such that it precludes him from dying (which is why he can stand in front of a hail of bullets and be thrown by Chuuya through several buildings in the Port Mafia, why he can't seem to commit suicide successfully, why Kunikida and Chuuya remark on his preternatural inability to die, why Dazai says to both Atsushi and Fyodor with such certainty "you can't kill me," and, cheekily, why Kunikida tells Dazai in 55 Minutes "You're no longer human! You've lost that right!" when Dazai says he finally managed to die, however briefly).
I think Natsume's skill bends reality in the shape of the narrative structure over which he had such mastery and he decided that whoever he failed to snatch from the cyclical jaws of misery and suicide before (again, borrowing from Kokoro), he would not let this boy die; and how cruel that must have felt at first (which is why Dazai hates pain— he's been denied the easiest escape from it that he knows), but how reality bent to weave a narrative such that Dazai could be saved again and again in such a way that might shatter Koroko's inescapable loneliness (this is why, in 55 Minutes, it's implied HG Wells might not have existed, might have been an apparition from an earlier era, as if reality itself rippled space and time to reconjure someone who made sense to protect Dazai when it seemed unlikely anyone else could; why Akutagawa happened to have business there; why Akutagawa and Atsushi happened to cross paths).
It's well known that the titular cat in I Am a Cat is a calico. But, the story was based on Natsume's IRL cat, who was a black, striped cat. And aren't Dazai's bandages a little like stripes?
