alleria was a dick to him before they really got together when she was literally being a dick to everyone because her family died and she felt so guilty she hadn't been able to save them, hadn't been present, and survived that she went on a murder spree while actively trying to die. she never meant to survive the trip beyond the dark portal. that's like. canon. they only get together after she starts to get her shit together in no small part thanks to kh///adgar. iirc she feels guilty for acting the way she did in btdp, definitely in a thousand years of war. he explicitly forgives her and they move on from that, not by it not being addressed, but by it being part of the development they undergo.

he ignores her feelings in legion in favor of the being he worships, and it's not even portrayed as a struggle in any level (i know people love to shit on val///shara but hear me out: ty//rande struggles with an impossible choice between the man she has loved for thousands of years and her duty as a priestess. a similar conflict is never presented in tura////lyon's actions. he is simply uncaring). not only there is disregard in front of the very reasonable hesitance alller///ia shows, she ends up involved in a quest to pick up the pieces of the thing that made her prisoner and threatened to have her killed for not following along with the religious worship of the light. when the windchime is shattered again by illid////an, tu////ralyon has a much more viceral reaction than he ever did to what happened to his wife. even before the windchime dies, he kneels in front of her, the being that kept his wife prisoner for centuries, who would have her killed if not for some vision of their supposed destiny, right in front of said wife, not long after she questions what this thing may do to her when they met again. everything that comes post legion doesn't make it better. three sisters has alle///ria literally saying her sister shouldn't envy her relationship. he doesn't approve of her ties to the void and holds on to the hope she'll 'go back to the light', which, she was never connected to it in the religious sense, and regardless, it's blatantly ignoring her path and her choices and what she wants.

AU where Alleria Windrunner, known to be open to using self-destructive forces to fight evil, becomes the first Fel "Blood" Elf.

How would this happen? Well ya see, in my favorite scene in Beyond the Dark Portal, Alleria hunts and kills an orc or five, and she kills at least one in splatter distance. She ends up with orc blood on her hands, and she almost licks it off her hands, but stops herself before she does.

Now, obviously, blood from a green orc is not going to be as corruptive as the blood of Mannoroth. But Fel magic is incredibly addictive. Like, in drug terms, it's like crystal meth. So she just has cravings off on and on, getting a buzz after every fight, with this growing shame surrounding her. Then she captures an orc and tortures them for information, and once she's done with him, she hangs him upside down and slits his throat. That much blood calls to the Fel energy inside her already, and she can't stop herself.

The rush is incredible, and the power moreso. And she wants more. Then the dreams start. Her brother comes to her in her dreams, begging her to avenge him. Sending her visions of some warlock on Draenor as if he were somehow responsible for her brother's death.

So she finds the warlock and drains him the same way. The visions don't stop, though. Instead, "Lirath" sends her new powers.

From there, it's all downhill. She would likely either have to be killed by Turalyon, or she would join the Legion at the end of BtDP.

Premise: Becoming The Dark Prince is a Stalking Jack the Ripper series novella, told from Thomas Cresswells POV. It picks up at the end of Escaping From Houdini and continues a little bit beyond where that book left off. And while technically I don’t know if you absolutely need to read it before reading Capturing the Devil, I can say with confidence that you really, really should.

So, first things first- I love Thomas Cresswell with all of my heart and he can do no wrong. So naturally, when I found out about this novella, I was so excited. By the time it came out, I was a little worried that my expectations were too high, but turns out, they weren’t high enough!

This novella takes a look at a few scenes from Escaping From Houdini, and show’s Thomas’ POV of them. I really think each scene that was included was important to giving more insight into his character and helped explain the reasons for his decisions, so nothing here was unnecessary. Plus one specific scene became a million times more painful when told from his perspective (you can probably guess which scene it is).

Then there were some new scenes. These were adorable and fun scenes to read, but they also added touched on some aspects of Escaping From Houdini that I wasn’t a fan of. I was really glad to see it addressed, but a part of me is still a little bitter about it. However, that is more of a problem I have with that book than this novella.

CONCLUSION

Pros- More Thomas!! Plus this adds some insights into the previous book

Cons- That one thing from Escaping From Houdini bothers me more and more the more I’m reminded of it

Overall- 5/5 stars. Becoming the Dark Prince is a must read for any Stalking Jack the Ripper fan, and is sure to get you excited for the conclusion to the series!! (Can Capturing the Devil just be released already!?!?)
