I will NEVER FORGET how I was like “Damn they are trending uh? … let’s see what they got?”, I clicked on the following link and THAT WAS IT FOR ME.

though I became obsessed with that particular performance of ON, which brought me to check out ON KINETIC MANIFESTO, and got me to add ON as a favorite song on spotify, which I listened to everyday as I went to work. I still couldn't imagine the me of today. 

I then decided to listen to the whole of “Map of the Soul 7” and not gonna lie, I would have the following songs on repeat, every day:

It even got to a point where I would listen to only Filter on repeat 😬😬😬 … Mind you I still didn’t know who any of the members were by that point. Eventually I decided to take a look at the members and I started and ended with the leader 😂. We seemed to have so many things in common: English not being our first language, love for anything intellectual, reading, etc. I couldn’t get past RM. So it was MoTS + RM for me. But nothing serious yet, life still proceeded as normal.

Full into COVID, I had the worst sleeping pattern still do, but that is a different story. So I just so happened to be awake when on August 21, 2020 Dynamite premiered. I had no idea what a comeback was, or anything associated, I just watched as the seconds counted down and then watched this colour video: I WAS SHOOK 😂😂😂. I also remember very clearly that I made my very first BTS gif out of that video, which was Tae at the very end not sure where the gif I made is now but the scene was the following:

So then I got into Tae, I was like “Who is this Cali-looking handsome thing?”. In the same fashion, through reactions, music videos, interviews, RUN BTS, etc, I started being obssessed with each member at a time, for different weeks at a time 😂😂😂. Eventually having to admit that, even though given the chance I'd marry Kim Seokjin 😂😂😂, I actually loved all of them.

As life kept going on, I had a whole series of firsts (photoshoots, reactions, RUN etc) but it took me up to some time in January 2021 to realise that I indeed hadn’t spent a single day of my life since February 25, 2020 without consuming any BTS related content. OF ANY KIND AND WILLINGLY. From that realisation I then happily dove into the rabbit hole, but also came up an amazing journey of mental health recovery:

I OWE THEM SO MUCH.

Because I can feel getting sappy, and in all honesty I want keep enjoying my ARMY birthday with a smile on my face, I’ll stop here. I guess in a way I need to thank Jimmy Fallon uh 😂😂😂?

Jimin. Tae pulled me in, but Jimin possessed me. Once I watched Carpool Karaoke, there was no going back.

what makes them your current bias?

His heart. Yes, he's gorgeous, yes, he's an incredible dancer, yes, he has a beautiful voice, but it's his heart that makes him my bias. He's so genuine and thoughtful and full of love. And a little bit of chaos.

who is your bias wrecker?

Hobi is my biggest wrecker. I've yet to recover from Hobipalooza.

I'm obsessed with Jin and his sense of humor. I think we could be best friends.

November 2020. Heard Life Goes On and that sent me down the rabbit hole.

b) do you think BTS quality of songs (music and writing) has gone below par and that their last best work was MOTS7?

d) did you watch the Busan concert? What did you think of it? Did you think the performances were really bad, as some others did?

Hey thanks! You guys took this seriously and I really appreciate it. Based on the very specific way you phrased these questions I feel like you have strong opinions on these so feel free to reply with them 😂

a) I can’t pick favorites, I shouldn’t have suggested that I can, lmao. I’ll go with a tie between On and Black Swan. On because it’s just so visually satisfying; the kinetic manifesto film was incredible. Black Swan because I love how into it they all get, they let their demons out for that one, for real. And Jimin, oh Jimin.

b) lol. Uhhh I don’t think so, not necessarily? I do think MOTS was super good. This is such a hyper-specific question, I’m cracking up. Do YOU? Because I feel like maybe you do and you’ve been dying to get it off your chest. Lol this is a safe space it’s cool.

c) hmmm I don’t love rankings because I think they all have songs/solo works where they shine. That being said there are three whose voices I sort of seek out and tend to be the most obsessed with in the majority of BTS songs. Those being Jimin, Yoongi and Jungkook, with Jimin and Yoongi maybe tying for first place. You didn’t ask but my favorite vocal pairing for harmonizing is Vmin. There is something downright magical about their voices together.

d) sort of. I didn’t set an alarm and watch it live like some did — I thought about it, but ultimately just watched the performances after the fact. Am I a bad army for that? Probably. Lol this question feels like another hyper-specific one 🤣 do I think the performances were flawless? Nah. But they came, they brought the energy, they delivered. I’ve been to a decent amount of concerts (though never a BTS one 😔) and I have to say based on the concert footage I’ve watched of them, they bring more energy than probably 95% of performers I’ve seen live — and that’s live, where I can feel the energy of the crowd around me and smell the sweat. I see more energy from those 7 guys through a screen than I have 30 feet from a stage. So yeah, they fucking bring it. They’re not gonna be perfect every time, and their choreo makes it hard to keep sounding good song after song after song, especially the older they get! Lmao. Was it the best they’ve ever been? Probably not. But “really bad” would be an exaggeration for sure, imo.

okay, I'm gonna get emotional because this is the first BTS Anniversary that i actually spend as a fan, and as, what i would also like to call myself, an Army.

June is the month i got to know BTS better. before that, I've had only heard of them, i only knew they existed, but in june, i don't know how, i don't know why, i decided to search their music on youtube. i saw their dynamite mv, the DNA mv, boy with luv mv, and then went to the carpool karaoke. Afterwards, my tiktok algorithm started suggesting BTS related content, especially recommendations for people who were getting into them, and i went on following their suggestions, and found the ON: Kinetic Manifesto Film, then Black Swan, and older ones, and when i tell you that i fell HARD, trust me, i did. Their choreographies hypnotized me, and i just wanted to know more, and see more because they were just SO. GOOD.

A few weeks ago, i got curious to know exactly when i started to, like, really stan BTS, so i searched up my instagram stories archive, and the likes archive, and june was the month. In the stories archive i found that june 10th was the first time i posted BTS related content on my instagram, and from then on, BTS was in almost every other story, whether as background music, or it was something specifically about them; therefore, i chose June 10th, 2021 as the day i officially started this journey with them.

Sometimes i get a bit sad about it because throughout the time that I've been exposed to BTS content, I've seen the bullying some new armies receive from older armies, using the word "baby army" as an insult, so for a long time, i refused to call myself army, because i thought i didn't deserve the name, how could i when i only met them??

besides, i felt like armies, older and new, put so much effort into being an Army, like, they stay up all night streaming, they download every app there is when they have to vote, they are always there when there's a vlive, they know so much, they do so much, but i know and do so little. so, yeah, i felt uncomfortable calling myself and Army (and i still do) when i know that i can't do the same things other Armies do for them.

But today, even if only for today, i decided to call myself an Army, and celebrate this 9 years of BTS with them, and enjoy everything they're giving us now, everything they gave us before, and everything they will be giving us going forward. Today I embrace the name, i embrace the journey no matter the lenght, and i embrace the love i have to give them and the love they have given me. Today i embrace the many nights they have comforted me with their songs, with their laugh, and with their words. Without realizing it, without them knowing, they've given me lots of advice. And I love them. 💜

I love them so much that it sometimes scares me.

Anyways, this is just something that has been on my mind today, and i wanted to write it somewhere and leave it out there.

tomorrow we still have a surprise coming, and they said is a big one, my gut is telling me it's tour dates, and that scares and excites me. after i saw the video where they said that they were planning on going on tour before the pandemic made me kind of thank these years locked up because they gave me the opportunity to get to know them, and now i might have a chance to see them on tour. can you imagine?? i know i do.

I also sometimes feel like those years we spend locked up were a time to discover and rediscover many things. For me, i discovered my love for BTS and rediscovered my ability to feel like a teenager all over again, and experience the rawness of this kind of love you can only give to an artist. i know these were hard times for all of us, but I'm just trying to see the bright side and not dwell in the pain.

Well, this was my open letter to 7 boys who changed a lot in my life this year, and i hope we keep growing together.
