Okay I wont get to work on this any longer tonight so imma just post this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this morning I have realised some stuff about my Macaque home hc
So first of all you can see the human disguised Macaque with Bai He,
and so Bai He wasnt there or "planed into the house" three days ago, but I decided that, that just wont do, I want her with Macaque, so im going to have to go back and alter my original ideas so it would fit the concept of Bai He also living there with Macaque (I have quit a lot of ideas for that, but ill get to them when I have the time)
But its not the main reason I wanted to talk about this even with half finished ideas under constructuion in my head
The big thing you already saw the random old lady and the antic Store/shop, so its no suprise im going to talk about that a for a bit,,, not a lot tho cuz I dont really got the energy for this
Soo--- She does not have a name, but Ill work on that, shes not fully thougt out, but nothing really when it comes to my ideas and headcanons (its kinda like eating halfbaked dough)
so shes 73 years old divorced lady running a little antic shop in the outer cirkles of Megapolis. I was thinking maybe it was her who originally selled the whole building to Macaque and rented the free space under the dojo.
She has a daughter and a grandkid (didn't decide on gender yet)
Shes kinda inspired by @/ladygreenfrisbee's oc in the fanfiction sunbreak, a snarky but sweet old lady whos not taking any shit from the brooding, shadow the hedgehog wannabe.
When she was younger she worked in a Museum in Megapolis, working with antient historical artifacts and megical weapons, but she pretty much knew everything about anything in there, with history and old stories being one of her passions,
Thus after she retired she decided to open and antic store. Even tho its an antic store, she can be one of those people that you bring an old piece of furniture or object in and they can tell you if its legit or not. She is also willing to trade and buy stuff from you if its to her likings. She's fair and not a con artist, she has just enough money for herself and thats completely fine by her, shes a simple woman when it comes to living.
She has a ton of degrees, Dr. And Phd tytels and what nots, extreamly smart and knows a lot about history and mytology and different eras of the past, making it easier for her and Macaque to connect over old stuff.
Also I was thinking, even tho she couldnt tell that Macaque was the Six Eared Macaque himself, she knew that they were wearing glamours, She studied artifects and worked with demons who were experts on the field of magics and glamours, she knows her shit
And even tho She had a decent relationshipp with Macaque I dont think Macaque would willingly let her see his true form, maybe after he was very exhausted, and injured after a fight they couldnt hold it up and were like-- fuck it who cares (maybe it was after the final fight with LBD) and she obviously knew who they were imidietly seeing his Six ears (that even tho he let her see one time hé continued to glamour like he would usually, only letting go of their human disguise)
So after that she would start asking him a whole lot of questions about the past and what was it like, carefully avoiding the questions involving the great sage equal to heaven, cuz she knew what happend from jttw
But yeah Macaque found it funny how a child and an old lady are looking at him with similar shimmer to their eyes as they interrogate him on the past
She loves a good tea and has her own little blends that calm the nerves and ease muscle pain and stuff like that. After She and Macaque became more friendly with eachother she gifted them some tea that helps him fall asleep better and relax. Macaque checked them for poison twice and couldnt find anything, but still wasnt willing to drink from them until he had a very fucked up breakdown yippeee ✌️
After Macaque lived there for some years they somewhat warmed up to eachother, they would hold little tea paties and talk about stuff (annoying husbands and divorce) after Bai He started living with Macaque these tea parties increased in numbers, sometimes the ladys grandchild joining in when Grandma was watching over them, maybe they get along well with Bai He, maybe they had a rocky begining to their friendshipp, but they warmed up to eachother and now are pretty good friends (maybe, ill think about it more)
BUT!!! this was it for now its already 2:40 am and im waking up at 6:40 so even tho I have more to say ill be going now
Bye thank you for reading ✌️☺️

I'd say I'm becoming a nerd, but that ship sailed a long time ago. I guess I'm just expanding my nerdiness to other areas.
Anyway, MORE MYTHOLOGY!
So in Journey to the West, the Buddha explains that there are 4 'spiritual primates' that don't fit into any categories for immortals or types of creatures. Fans of Lego Monkie Kid are likely familiar with 2, the Stone Monkey Sun Wukong and the Six Eared Macaque. The other 2, the Long-armed Gibbon and the Red-Buttocked Baboon are a lot more obscure. They only get a brief mention in JttW because the focus of the chapter they appear in is Macaque, but the idea of a set of super powerful Immortal monkeys is just too fun to pass up, you know? So I've been thunking my thinker.
What if each primate was associated with a different realm (mortal, heavenly, lunar, and underworld) and element? I know the 4 elements (earth, water, wind, fire) are a western idea rooted in alchemy and eastern mythology has 5 elements (earth, water, fire, metal, wood), but there aren't 5 monkeys and this is just a thought experiment and not me trying to force western ideas onto eastern culture.
Got it? Good.
Now, Sun Wukong is very solidly earth because he's, you know, a rock. No surprise there. He was also born in the mortal realm and spent most of his life there, so we'll call him the celestial primate of the mortal realm while we're at it.
The Six-Eared Macaque is another easy one. A lot of LMK fannon associates him with wind, inferring that his heightened hearing has something to do with wind magic. He's also very closely tied to the moon because of the line in "Shadow Play" where he directly compares the Warrior (himself) to the moon. So Macaque is the celestial primate of wind and the Lunar realm.
Now here's where we get a bit more speculative and start using information creatively. There are 2 monkeys, realms, and elements left I want to use, so let's start with the monkeys so everyone has a baseline understanding.
The Long Armed Gibbon (Gibs, from now on) is described as being able to "seize the sun and moon, shorten a thousand mountains, distinguish auspicious from inauspicious, and manipulate planets and stars."
The Red Buttocked Baboon (Babs for short) has "knowledge of yin and yang, understands human affairs, is adept I'd daily life and can avoid death and lengthen its life."
Starting with the realms because they seem easiest to assign, I would give Gibs the Heavenly realm because of its ability to move around celestial objects like the sun, moon, planets, and stars. This leaves the Underworld to Babs, which I think fits nicely because their "knowledge of yin and yang" and "understand[ing] of human affairs" would make them a good assistant to the 10 Kings of the Underworld.
Next comes the 2 remaining elements, water and fire, which are a bit tricky because it could go both ways.
Gibs could be fire because the sun and stars are giant balls of burning plasma, but also water because the sky/heavens are often associated with an ocean or other bodies of water in several different mythologies. For example, in Egyptian mythology, Ra sailed his boat through the sky every day, while in early Abrahamic belief the sky was a huge dome with water on the other side, and rain happened when floodgates were opened to let the water through. In Chinese myth specifically, the Milky Way is often depicted as a river that is sailed through by various deities.
Babs could fit with fire as well because underworlds and hell-adjacent places are often shown to have fires to torment and punish the sinful dead, no surprise there. But there is surprisingly a lot of water symbolism in the realm of the dead as well. For example, some people may be familiar with the Japanese idea of the Sanzu River, very similar in concept to the Greek River Styx, as well as the Chinese Huang Quan/Yellow springs.
Personally I would pair Babs with fire because he has red in his name, making him the celestial primate of fire and the Underworld.
That leaves Gibs to be the celestial primate of water and the Heavenly realm.
I feel pretty good about this, but if anyone else has other ideas I'd love to hear them.

Considering the amount ask of cuddling and calling macaque cute I’m going to balance it all out by saying I always wanted to throw a flash bang at Macaque then throw more like it would hurt If you know what a flash bang does maybe add white phosphorus to the mix. I this is a very Christian view demons (because in christianity demons are the embodiment of literally everything wrong with humanity) hearing Wukong peace treaty I would just say “well, still going to kill them you can’t just eat baby’s then can for half time when I can kick your ass.”
Speaking of unnecessarily being an asshole, how Erlang?
(I know Erlang can’ burn down the flower fruit mountain right after the fight because plot and symbolism but it just makes more sense then Erlang burning the mountain like 500 years after the fight. But who I’m I to say because still can’t understand the structure structure of the world of JTTW like all I see is a Beyblade.)
JABDHHSHDUSHDHS YEAH WELL, HE SURE DESERVES IT xDD
in buddhist and daoist cosmology, demons are just a type of being, just like animals are. you can reincarnate as them depending on your karmic debt, or you can become one depending on how you cultivate and your deeds in life. holding them as inherently evil is the same as saying all wolves are evil.
it's completely fair to defend yourself if demons start attacking people, but to hunt them down just for shits and giggles isn't good of you either!
and HEVHWBDHBS why you gotta do my boy like that?? xDD Erlang isnt unnecessarily evil either! we might not understand or sympathize with some cultural values and laws of the place and time, but let's avoid assigning too many labels for the sake of respect, yeah? /srs
mmm im confused by what you mean? Erlang did burn down FFM in jttw very close after the fight with Wukong was over, killing half of the mountain's monkey population. yes, we can consider this harsh because it is, but there is the cultural context that at the time this was set, patricide and regicide was two of the highest crime one could commit, and Wukong did try to dethrone the Jade Emperor. thats attempted regicide. if you were convicted of either, youd be executed and as added measure, a lot more people would too!
to quote two passages from Oedipal God's chapters on filial piety:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
harsh punishment for a harsh crime.
Erlang burning the mountain but allowing half of the population to survive was a mercy, since technically he could have reasonably razed the whole place to nothing. Wukong even thanks him for his mercy in jttw!
all that said, in this au Wukong and Erlang still are sworn brothers and truth be told, they get along quite alright! im not yet sure if i'll make the Lotus Lantern story fit into it (i think Chenxiang and MK would get along like peas in a pod whdbhwbdj) but we'll see.
do let me know if i can answer any specific questions around jttw and the buddho-daoist cosmology of it, i'll do my best to explain if i can!! <3

Do all/most of JTTW’s monsters of the week represent specific obstacles during the journey to enlightenment? Like, I heard the the Six Eared Macaque represents a dark side to/illusionary/second mind, but what about some of the other villains?
I can't say for sure if there are other allegories that are quite as clear cut as the facing-your-own-doppelganger/evil self trope but I do like to think that each demon/trail has its own lesson in its own ways.
There are A LOT of demons (or antagonists in general) in JTTW, I tried to make a list about each one and how they were subdued (it's not complete and I'm afraid I've been lazy) to try to see how each demon fit into the story. Of course, I'm sure that each demon could have an allegory within their battles, as there is demons that have underlying meanings.
Bull Demon King - Wukong fighting someone he has a past with, being forced to face that past and having to cut ties with his family
Yellow Robe Demon - The demon that became a demon for the sake of following his love, perhaps paralleling how Wukong came back due to his own loyalty to his pilgrimage.
The Old Abbot - suppose to be a symbol for other monks to follow but instead gave in to his own greed, paralleling Tang Sanzang's own humbleness.
These are all my personal takes, there isn't really any discussion about them and these are like only the first few demons. I'm not saying that each demon DOES have a lesson and maybe I will do a more in-depth look once I have time and re-read JTTW.
But until then maybe it is best to say it's left to interpretation and see what you think for yourself!
This is an attempt me making an easy to read/access JTTW demon list.
But I'll have to keep in mind what the other might represent symbolically throughout the journey! Thanks for asking that!

I have a theory mk is one of the four celestial monkeys my reasoning 1 he has wu kongs powers and we know he can use them without the staff the only one that we know have the same powers in both book and show is macaque 2 in season 4 we see him born from a stone but it is stated that he is different from wu kongs stone 3 only four celestial monkeys exist but we only seen two in both show and book could it be one or two of those monkeys don't exist yet 4 the two missing monkeys are said to understand Ying and yang and have the power two move celestial bodies ink mk says that Herold destroy the world and we know that mk has an understanding of his friends (albeit he has trouble sometimes and macaque and wu kong are stated to be very destructive) what do you think
Anon: Ya know. From a thematically/mythological Standpoint I guess it would make for the number of celestial primates to be fixed at four. Wukong, Macaque, MK, and whoever’s working with Azure.
It would be hilarious, however, if someone brought up the whole “four celestial primates who don’t fit into at category” thing and someone has to awkwardly raise their hand and be like “Actually the current number is six. That we know of.”
LMK Season 4 spoilers
I think it's the latter honestly? I know LMK takes a hard curve away from JttW but the four primates were mentioned to be alive within Macaque's chapter. Based on what we've seen, Qi Xiaotian is too young to be alive during the journey. It's possible that one of the other two primates are manipulating or its another primate who was created the same time as Xiaotian.
Plus it's just funny.
"What do you mean, that we know of?!"
"Do you know how hard it is to keep track of you guys?! Four of them are born, one we knew right off the bat, and we didn't know about that Macaque guy until he attacked! And suddenly two more just...pop into existence!"

How Mk inherited the staff
Ok, I've been thinking about this a lot to work out how this fits the plot I've basically rewritten due to hyper fixation, and I think I've got it. For context Sand and Pigsy are the same from the jttw, and Mk absolutely grew up knowing his fun uncle sandy because I refuse to believe pigsy doesn't check up on him regularly. So Mk is taken in by Pigsy after stumbling into the noodle shop hurt and disoriented. Tang helps pigsy fix him up and the try to figure out how to find his family when the kid has no memories. They only thing they find is there seems to be no record of the kid anywhere, and so they make the decision to take him in considering he's already attached to them and it was better than just letting him float around in the system.
So Pigsy names him Mk and he lives a relatively normal life. He had a few health scares what with all that magic being suppressed and the headaches whenever his memories try and fail to break through the surface, but they happened less and less the older he got. Same as canon, Mk becomes pigsys delivery driver. I feel like I should note that I picture Pigsy as more of the stern uncle type than a father figure so that's how I'm portraying him in this au. On one particular day Wukong is flying over the city in his bird form when he spots Mk. For the briefest moment upon seeing him Wukong swears he looked just like Xiaotian (hint hint nudge nudge that's yoUR SON-) and is so shocked that he doesn't pay attention to where he's flying and smacks straight into a telephone pole. Said pole then spontaneously toppled, onlookers are very confused.
So Wukong hightailed it back to ffm to tell Macaque because he's basically panicking internally. Macaque does his best to calm him down when they both hear something. Wukong immediately recognizes the sound and pulls his staff out of his ear (dbk was never sealed so he still has it) and sure enough he was right, there was a ringing sound coming from the staff, the same one he heard when he got it from the dragon palace. Surely it couldn't be a coincidence, the staff starts singing as soon as he sees a random mortal who he thought was his long lost son? Surely it must be reincarnation! (Because logic)
So of course he starts following him. The more he watches Mk the more he sees the similarities, he reminds wukong so much of Xiaotian that it hurts. Macaque followed him for a while and felt the same. And whenever Wukong would bring the staff out he would see Mk turn his head towards it when it sang. By all accounts the staff had chosen a new master. Wukong and Macaque discuss this and agree that it's best to let Mk decide for himself. They just needed to figure out how to tell him.
That's all I have for this post, I didn't expect it to get so long. Anyways I hope you like it. Please leave a comment below or go to the ask box, feedback really helps. See you next time

Things I liked/loved about LMK season 4(spoilers)
-the animation is awesome as always
-the writing is still super funny
- the comparisons between the JTTW pilgrims and the modern Monkie Kid crew. How the 2 group’s members have their own unique strengths and weaknesses. That one group is necessarily better than another. How the Monkie Kid crew learns from their counterparts.
-confirmation that Monkie Kid crew Pigsy, Tang, and Sandy are reincarnations of their JTTW counterparts
-Monkie Kid crew actually gets proper training.
- the motivations of the new antagonists. How it addresses and builds of the past antagonist’s motivation
-the new antagonists look cool and are fun to watch
-Azure Lion’s final design/outfit
-Monkie! MK!!!! I’ve been wanting this since I watch the “making of LMK franchise”. During the documentary, concept art of Monkie! MK was on the wall.
-how the scroll’s curse creates an ink embodiment of a person’s insecurities and regrets
-Ink Monkie! MK. He is so mean but sassy.
-the show finally addressed how little we actually know about MK. The due was a huge mystery when you really think about. (At least in the original English version of the show) “MK” is just a nickname and we don’t know his “real name”. Up until this season, we knew more about Mei than than the main character. The show up until this point, never addressed why MK was chosen as SWK’s successor, why he could lift the staff, why he came out of an STONE EGG in the pilot episode or why he as any of SWK’s powers.
- more of LMK’s version of JTTW
- more context on SWK’s past relationships. His dynamic with Azure Lion and Macaque are the most interesting to me. I like how Azure Lion said(I don’t fully trust him though. He did keep trapped SWK in scroll 📜 ) he want to patch thing up with SWK after his mission is done. Like he still hurt by SWK’s betrayal but still has a soft spot for him. In comparison Macaque seems more interested in getting revenge on SWK for his betrayal.
-we got to see Red Son and Prince Nezha again!
-DBK like a woman who can kick his ass 🤣. More information on PIF’s backstory.
-we got to see a a bit of Erlang Shen(but only in the opening)
- SWK made a geese shelter for that farmers lady. It’s a cute little details that show SWK care about other even when it doesn’t fit his goal(he thought MK got trapped in the scroll 📜 too and was looking for him). How he is actually a genuinely good guy post JTTW.

Headcanon that Mac had been on the journey with SWK (as an actual member, or maybe just moral support), and at some point while facing LBD she embeds one of her bone fragments in him (a pisiform could easily fit in his brow scar). This would make corrupting him that much easier. Infecting him with her magic. Controlling him. Replacing the memory of who actually killed him. And if he died after he and SWK had their falling out? If SWk had no idea he had died? Well. Love your art, have a great day
This is why I love my anons. Because sometimes they will just break into my house and drop angst on my lap like a cat with a dead beetle.
But if Macaque was with Wukong during JTTW their falling out would hurt so much more. Because Macaque wouldn't think that the other "abandoned" him, it would build up more hope in him regarding his relationship with the Monkey King.

So since you’re The Person Anons Go To To Complain About Lego Monkey Kid; I figured I’d get this out of my system while also asking for your two cents.
I don’t think the LMK crew have read JTTW. Best case scenario I think they either got some word of mouth stories and read some wiki articles.
And a lot of this comes down to their characterization of SWK and the way the world treats him.
In the book, SWK has a kingdom of monkey, but they’re YAOGUAI monkeys who are capable of speech, making an army, are enslaved several times, and were straight up referred to as his family multiple times. Meanwhile, the show just… doesn’t acknowledge his subjects? They’re at best represented as regular monkeys who wander around the island, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen SWK or MK interact with them on screen. They’re essentially background dressing.
Then you’ve got the season three episode where SWK has stage fright, which… he never really had any fear of public speaking (even to Buddha himself), and straight up gets into a massive public competition and cuts out his own entrails just to prove another guy isn’t immortal. (Even in their own series, they have confirmed SWK starred in his own movie and did voice acting for a game)
Honestly, I get the vibe that the writers care more about the archetype boxes they can fit SWK into rather then who he really is. The rest of the JTTW crew should still be alive? Well no, we need SWK to be our Hermit Mentor. We’ll just imply they’re all dead (or abandoned him for no reason). Sun Wukong has a family of monkeys? Well we can’t have that! Make them regular monkeys so he’s Truly Alone (and also ignore that he can talk to animals).
Sun Wukong is a king, and has been shown to be incredibly comfortable in his public speaking? Well we can’t have that! Because Macaque is our resident theater kid, and we need them to be Literary Parallels! Nevermind the fact Sun Wukong barely interacted with him in the book, but deeply loved Demon Bull King, and DBK has an actual reason to feel betrayed by him.
I’m not bothered by the changes like Macaque having been his old friend at one point or dead characters being alive or even the choice to not acknowledge SWK’s buddha status (in fact, I enjoy some of these), but it’s… really disheartening to see my favorite character be relegated to Lonely Mentor and Macaque’s Sun. He deserves a lot better then the show is giving him, honestly.
SADFAWEGDFGAD anon that was something I said as a jest but haha wow I guess I'm starting to get a reputation (X_X).
But ANYWAY okay folks you know the drill I sometimes find it fun to be a hater so heads up for that and remember that "don't like, don't read" goes both ways <3.
---
But to get to your main gripe anon, now that you've said it I wouldn't be surprised at all if that was the case...like as it is there's already been a number of cases I'm aware of from twitter where members of the LMK crew have put their collective foot in their collective mouth & came across as pretty insulting to Chinese deities for it, & then doubled down with that whole "it's our interpretation uwu" mentality which is, to put it mildly, a kind of shitty thing to do. And in regards to the main monkey himself--and in full acknowledgement of the very blatant hints they've given that there's a lot more going on with lego show Sun Wukong then has been revealed so far, it does at times seem like they're making their version of the Monkey King more in line with the "dumbass monkey who breaks everything" western stereotype than the complex trickster figure you find in the og classic...like of course there are indications that this Sun Wukong may be the one of the more tragic Sun Wukongs out there in that he's been left after the journey with no friends, no companions, no kingdom in any real way, and everyone in the entire world who's met him in person, with a few exceptions, seems to hate his guts. And you could actually refer to Xiyouji itself for explanations on why a lot of that might be: the monkey yaoguai of Mt. Huaguoshan go through centuries of lethal trauma even before the Six Eared Macaque treated them as his personal tools while he was "Sun Wukong," which could have convinced the survivors that the real monkey king had become a wicked tyrant and thus they all ran away in fear; Sun Wukong may have ended up with a case of stage fright from the journey itself because of all the times that Tang Sanzang tortured him for speaking his mind; and Sun Wukong did enrage the entirely of heaven pre-journey before largely becoming an enemy of yaoguai during the journey itself...hell, in the og classic he even starts weeping because after he was banished from the pilgrim group he feels like he has no place he could go :(.
THAT SAID, during the events of Monkie Kid itself Sun Wukong often does come across as a doofus who's doofery gets everyone into serious trouble. Just to give a few examples: him joking around & not focusing during a high-stakes situation is the reason a 4th ring of samadhi was created which got embedded into Bai Longma & eventually into Long Xiaojiao; him lying to Qi Xiaotian & telling him he was going on "vacation" even though he was running around looking desperately for a way to stop the Lady Bone Demon is a major reason she became as powerful as she did; and his entire plan to stop the Lady Bone Demon, massive threat that she is, is presented even by him as flimsy and paper-thin, something made all the worse by the danger the monkie crew was put into in the effort to get the rings & by his refusal to share all the details of it with them until it's too late. And then of course there's the Six Eared Macaque's whole thing where he's violently obsessed with Sun Wukong because they apparently used to be the best of friends before the Monkey King got power hungry, betrayed everyone, and then killed him. So far we haven't gotten so much as a brief flashback that gives Sun Wukong's thoughts about of any of this, so you can see why even if it's not the overarching intent many people would take the message to be "Sun Wukong = sucks." And it's something you see reflected in a lot of the fanart and fanfic around Monkie Kid; practically the only person the Monkey King's ever depicted anymore as being in a good relationship with is Macaque (fandoms tend to hyperfocus on 2 dudes who despise each other but have a more friendly history), many AUs make him an irredeemable selfish asshole, and/or he's being depicted as someone who fully deserves to be yelled at & hated by everyone because of the bullshit he pulled that got everyone hurt. In many ways, LMK Sun Wukong does have numerous similarities to TLJ Luke Skywalker in the way these sequels to their stories made them fail-hermits.
Tumblr media
Now of course it must be acknowledged that across the centuries that Sun Wukong has been a popular figure in Chinese culture's he's gone through a TON of different retellings and interpretations. The monkey king has been depicted as everything from a pious and devoted monk to a crude and lecherous yaoguai to a being that is simultaneously monkey, human, yaoguai, and buddha and who is defined above all else by the capacity for great violence, great restraint, and a powerful and active love for those he considers his family. Even so, it is kind of disappointing that even with allowing for the possibility of Monkie Kid still being able to give satisfying answers for why their Sun Wukong acts the way he does, a good part of his lego show portrayal so far has just been him acting like a careless jester with disastrous consequences and, even if he doesn't mean to, hurting one person after another to the point where his actions, even if inadvertently, even if largely against his will, played a big part in helping the Lady Bone Demon almost succeed in her attempt to destroy all of reality.
Like...how do you even try to atone for that?

LEGO MONKIE KID SEASON 4 SPOILERS
season 4 spoliers!!! OK so MK is a celestial monkey I'd like to lay out all the evidence my sister, My friend, and I have all figured out Starting with episode 0: ~ all the characters were clear descendants or reincarnations of the original JTTW crew even down to Westernized names except MK had no direct connection other than Monkey kings powers (and arguably initials) ~When MK was 'reborn'/survived beign trapped in DBK there were four pulses of light/musical stings with MK falling out ont he fourth pulse | ~MK's helmet has the circlet on it ~When MK was 'reborn' he was a stone egg ~Mk was the only person to lift the staff with ease Throughout season 1 there aren't much more except in episode 8 ~MK unlocks his mind surrounding him are 3 circlets with a fourth ringlike circlet pulsing from him season 2: ~LBD constantly calls MK, Monkey King, and Macaque 'Simian' and 'Monkey'
~In shadow play when Macaqye says "the hero and the warrior were like the sun and the moon" the shadows show the sun the moon and earth and then stars slowly join in. (I think the fourth monkey already exist canonically and we've seen him)
~The form MK takes the most when shapeshifting is a giant ape (not one of the celestial monkey but a monkey none the less)
~He's the only person other than Monkey King who can open the waterfall Season 3: ~Lots of references to MK acting like Monkey King (any more are welcomed)
Extra: ~In the intro everyone is put in front of their ancestors while MK and Monkey King share the same place on the screen
~Moneky King constantly refers to MK's powers as 'MK's powers' while everyone else calls his powers 'Monkey King's powers ~Now this is more personality But I think based on personality and design wise MK is meant to be the Red buttock horse Monkey (baboon) As descibed by the BUddah: "the second is the Red-Buttocked Horse Monkey, who Has knowledge of yin and yang, Understands human affairs, Is adept in its daily life And able to avoid death and lengthen its life." Based on MK's ability to avoid death (Name any season) , his close connection to humanity (so much so he never questioned who or what he is), the fact he's a delivery boy (adept in daily life), and for yin and yang that's the only I don't have evidence for, Also design wise he has red pants. ~now there is a possibility he could be the long-armed gibbon, but the description doesn't match mk again according to the Buddha: "Seize the sun and the moon, Shorten a thousand mountains, Distinguish the auspicious from the inauspicious, And manipulate planets and stars." Idk that just doesn't fit MK though the stars and moon do work with his love of space the rest I don't know
~Final point I think we've already met the fourth monkey I think it's the mysterious figure who entered the temple at the beginning of season 4 though I can be completely wrong it'd just work if in the same season, MK is revealed to be a monkey we meet the final monkey.
ANY ALL EXTRA EVIDENCE IS WELCOMED

12. What would you say is the most unique trait about your character? 20. If you could sum up your character with one sentence, what would it be? 21. Which song do you feel describes your character the most and why?
12. What would you say is the most unique trait about your character?
imo the shadow powers are the coolest part but not the most unique. is it cheating if i pull from the og jttw?-- notably, macaque is one of the few (?) demons who don't want to eat tang sanzang, instead wanting to take wukong's place in the group. in the original the reasoning is that he wants to become a buddha in wukong's place, but from the context lmk gives that relationship, it feels more intimate and might just be because macaque wants the companionship? or to try and understand why wukong wants their company at all?
though ig we haven't seen that on screen literally at all so it's just conjecture. I Think It Would Be Neat, Though. like, have you seen how jealous he sounds when he talks abt tang sanzang in the s4 special? good lord. i can't tell if that's an answer or not lol. x o)7
20. If you could sum up your character with one sentence, what would it be?
extremely petty and dramatic monkey unsure if he wants to get back with his ex or become his nemesis; secretly just wants attention
21. Which song do you feel describes your character the most and why?
god i'm so bad at music questions because i don't tend to associate songs with characters, so whenever i get one i look through my playlist of every song i've ever liked (that i never listen to because it's on youtube and i listen to music via bandcamp/my puter's music app) and start doing this.
anyway. 26 by paramore. man that's a good album, how's it been like 6 years since that came out..!?-- i think macaque would like it + it fits him in general for being peppy but secretly sad.

Hmm…how about the Traffic Light Trio having a sleep over? Like, what would they do, who’s house would they stay in and how would the parents feel about it (depending on where they are of course)?
I’m gonna assume this was meant for my BBU au and if it wasn’t I hope you don’t mind I’m going with that (Also this got… way longer than it shouldve so I’m gonna put it under a read more)
I imagine Mei and Red had sleepovers with just the two of them growing up, usually at Red’s place bc Mei’s parents didn’t want two children running around their priceless artifacts and such. When MK joins its especially not happening at Mei’s place, and since I don’t think MK, Pigsy & Tang have a very big living space (probably an apartment that just barely fits the three of them), they’d probably still be at Red’s.
Mei’s parents don’t exactly care much about what happens since they’re not gonna be there, but they do give Mei tons of rules and give her lectures on how to act when she’s staying over at a non-family members house (which she only half listens to).
PIF, while a bit wary of Mei (her great xhowever many times it’s takes to be correct grandfather was friends to the guy who imprisoned her husband, and while that’s a rather remote connection, still stings a bit) at first, and then MK later on, the two grow on her and so she’s happy to host them. It also gives her the opportunity to tell embarrassing baby stories about Red to his two closest friends!
Pigsy is always nervous about letting his boy be out of his sight and being unable to immediately check on him, but Tang soothes his worries. Their son may be a tad but reckless at times, but he can handle himself! He’s got two dependable friends with him as well! And that mom of Red’s would never let any harm come to any children in her presence (supposedly) so there’s really nothing to worry about! (MK doesn’t get to have any sleepovers for a while after the day he came home with a choppy new haircut courtesy of Mei, and then Red who insisted they could fix it/make it better)
As for what they’d do, probably play a ton of video games! MK would want to watch Monkey Cop and other such Monkey King franchises, but since they normally have sleepovers at Red’s… yeah that’s not happening. It’s okay though they just watch a Power Rangers-like show (that ends up having a arc based off of JTTW that they almost break the tv trying to hide from PIF; she knows and feels conflicted about it, though if she leaves the room quickly so the kids can fully enjoy themselves, no one would have to know).
Bonus: When they get closer to Bai He they have her join them too (which terrifies her monkey dads bc 1. She’s only ever been out of their reach for 9 hours tops before and 2. It’s gonna be at PIF’s place and she is BOUND to figure something out). When Wukong (Macaque had to do something idk maybe he has a job) comes by in a human disguise to pick her up the next morning, PIF gives him a knowing look, then tells the teens to watch the girl as she has a “private talk” with him and has him walk with her through the house. He’s terrified she’s gonna try and fight him and that it’ll somehow get the kids caught up in the crossfire and that he’ll have to reveal he’s the Monkey King and have Bai He never interact with any of them again, but instead the unthinkable happens. She tells him she doesn’t hate him, not anymore. She figured it was the right thing to do, DBK was terrorizing citizens and he is expected to protect mankind; it also couldn’t have been an easy decision for him, considering he and her husband once considered each other brothers. Plus, holding a grudge for centuries can be rather exhausting when you’re a single mother. So, until she finds some way to free her love, they will have a truce. ———— Help the “Bonus” is longer than the actual answers so sorry lol

I'm just your problem from adventure time AND the fan inspired song I'm my own problem duet Marshall vs gumball
the original marceline version is definitely maq → sun, not even applying any like. headcanon to it, you could just shove the song into LMK and it would work. it'd also fun and homosexual of macaque to perform this song in the same outfit marceline wore and everything.
and honestly i'd love to throw the lyrics of this song at 🥭🍑 pre-journey; things between them must've not been perfect and easy all the time. macaque would've always had a mouth on him, a sharp tongue—
Sorry I don't treat you like you're perfect Like all your little loyal subjects do
—which might also show some spite from macaque to other denizens of flower fruit mountain, though that might just be because he's a bitch to his core.
the only thing is that this song sympathizes with marceline. i don't... sympathize with macaque too much nor does his situation make me sympathize with him LOL. it's not hater shit, it's more like he fucked around and found out, and that's what happens when you fuck around and find you, yknow?
but hey that aside—
But I shouldn't have to be the one that makes up with you So… why do I want to? Why do I want to? To… bury you in the ground And drink the blood from your… ugh!
:3c :3c :3c :3c :3c gay gay homosexual gay
honestly though, But I shouldn't have to be the one that makes up with you does apply. i think that 🥭🍑 reconciling, while not necessarily balanced, is a two-person affair, not a one-sided thing. they should both put the effort into that.
meanwhile, it's a little bit difficult to go over the latter because there's no lyric page available, but on my first listen, i thought that gumball fit wukong pretty well—Cus I'm tired of feeling guilty for this!—and i think that the next line sorta encapsulates how i've come to think about him in his 500 year isolation (which i've always thought of as self-reflection time as well as like... his period of bigtime existentialism)—Is that what people really think about me? That I'm a god above all of you?—maybe, just maybe... he doesn't like that. maybe at some point during the journey, he realized he didn't like that.
and honestly JTTW wukong never thought of himself like that either. he was arrogant sure but i don't remember him being so high and mighty that he saw himself as godlike compared to others.
i also like the line I know that it hurts when you're lonely, but I can't take that burden from you—like imagine wukong actually confronting macaque with that. ultimately the most wukong can do is apologize to him and not, yknow, murder him again in the future, but... it's clear he doesn't want anything to do with macaque, and if macaque can't stand that (which he probably wouldn't), what's wukong supposed to do if he keeps picking a fight? he won't take it laying down. the lyric that reinforces my thought is You're YOUR own problem.
and you know, macaque probably does feel dehumanized by wukong—It's like I'm not even a person, am I?
and the ending of the song is them going over how, i don't want to feel this way about you, but i still do, why is that? why can't i let you go? yknow? yknow how that's just [clenches fist] so good? love that. it'd be fun if canon were like that.
anyway it'd be nice if they were honest with each other like marshall and gumball are.

Every issue i have with season 3
Putting under the cut because this is a Rant and i will be angry and critical and I know not everyone likes that.
also LMK S3 spoilers below...obviously.
Even after sleeping on it though, I realize how much some decisions of season 3 have really irked me.
1st thing being the samadhi fire and how they handled it as a whole. Now I’m not too pissy over the fact they changed the backstory for it, Monkie kid is kind of notorious for not following journey to the west for to a T but the way they handle the fire DOES kind of leave a ton of questions continuity wise. Like how in season 2 Tang DOES mention Red son’s original story but if the Samadhi fire was taken from him then that story shouldn’t exist....and if it was before the fire way taken then by the shows logic the dumping of an entire ocean shouldn’t of extinguished it - because the fact is that the fire CAN be extinguished, it just took an entire ocean to do it. Because in the book the fire is a blue flame that cannot be put out by water and instead gets strengthened from it and can travel OVER the top of water. but i digress this is more of a pet peeve.
The main issue i have with the Samadhi fire is actually who they gave it to... which was Mei. My first issue with them giving it to Mei is that 1. it felt like they HAD to change the Samadhi fire’s entire origin for it to make sense and it felt like a forced change because they realized it wouldn’t fit what they wanted to end up happening. second issue is that they LITERALLY TOOK RED SONS THING AND GAVE IT TO ANOTHER CHARACTER???? Red son was right there, they legit could’ve just used him but instead they bent over backwards to make it MEI????  Like literally Red son’s whole story in journey to the west is that he forged the samadhi fire over YEARS and YEARS of perfecting and training his fire abilities and is the ONLY ONE to wield it and they TOOK THAT AWAY FROM HIM??? 3rd is.... what’s even the deal with her having it? her grandpa held it so now she holds it too??? did her parents both have the ability to be the ring to or does that pass down once they have a kid? WHY DID THE FAMILY JUST NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS???
Literally if they wanted Mei to do something cool they could’ve done a billion other things but instead they decided to give her an extremely powerful fire which now is like.... nice she was a dragon before but now she’s gonna be super OP with dragon AND samadhi fire....if she knows to control it now then how will anything be a threat ever with how strong they made that fire?
2nd big issue: This season did not feel like it was about MK and it was frustrating that he didn’t actually get focused on in what is HIS OWN SHOW??? We never got to see him fully get back his powers, in fact we only saw shrinking, gold vision, shapeshifting, AND A SINGLE CLONE APPEARED BUT NO EXPLANATION ON HOW PARTY CLONE EVEN FUCKING GOT THERE? Now i can get if they didn’t want MK to be a focus but it felt like they were trying to make him a focus along with everyone else, which doesn’t work in a 10 episode span (and no u cant tell me he was the focus of the 4 specials because HE WAS NOT.  THAT WAS ALL MEI)
Idk i think with the vision we saw of him from lady bone demon in season 2 you think something more was planned for his character but ig the team forgot about him exploding into blue flames in those visions... I just feel like they had planned more  but then switched it around on us.
another issue is Macaque. ohhh Macaque.... idk i think them bringing up that YES HE DID DIE IN JTTW and his connection to the bone demon like that was interesting. i have no issues withthat. ITS THE ONE LINE THAT TANG SAYS ABOUT REDEMPTION THAT GETS ME. MACAQUE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN LABELED AS REDEEMED. I’m sorry but i’m firmly of the belief that he has literally done too much to be redeemed simply because he helped the group ONCE to fight a greater evil. that is not redemption. can it be the START to redemption? definitely. but they just kind of.... added him to the group as a friend as if he wasn’t trying to kill and traumatize MK for 3 entire seasons. also the group being like “oh we know you aren’t in it for yourself” was stupid because Macaque has ONLY been shown to be in itt for himself and we just have to be told that “no guys look he really isn't” and then are not shown it or even hinted at that being the case anytime before that? right. That just comes off as sloppy writing to try fulfill either fan desire or they are rushing characters to points they want them to be.
Overall this season felt like it was poorly written and rushed beyond belief and part of me knows it was because they are on a 10 episode season model but also all previous seasons did just fine on a 10 episode model - so why does this one feel so BAD? It felt like they were trying to shove too much into one season that it felt like it jumped around with no real idea of WHERE or WHAT they wanted to focus on and would have to twist things to work in their favor instead of just...going the simple route. it just... it didn’t feel like monkie kid if that makes sense. this season doesn’t feel like a monkie kid season. this doesn’t feel like the last two and ik the stakes are higher but...it still should’ve felt like monkie kid. it shouldn’t be leaving me feeling like i didn’t watch monkie kid.
i feel like maybe if they had more episodes then maybe some things could’ve been fix but i think the main issue is in the story decisions that the team decided to go in that just...really ruined this season for me.
and like... i love this show. i adore it. it’s my biggest hyperfixation and is so dear to me...so to have it be so disappointing really sucks. because my brain just can’t stop thinking about how disappointed i am over the season.
and maybe I’m way off the mark. I know this is 100% my opinion and are my issues alone with this season and maybe i’m analyzing my issues wrong but they are still my issues. I didn’t go into this season planning to be disappointed. i looked at the season with high hopes and excitement that just...got killed off. a show shouldn’t do that.
