So I found your post on ToTK insightful, but one thing I didn’t see you cover is how according to the narrative, when Zelda went back 10,000 years she went to her distant relatives. It was still her kingdom, just very early. What do you think of how this ties in to the themes you were talking about?
Sure thing! Hope I can address this well.
For those not in the know, this is the post we're discussing--the Orientalism of the Mummy in Dehydrated Ganon.
I also want to qualify this with two things:
I'm not Native. I'm a Black person speaking as someone who also has a heritage closely related to colonial violence and white supremacy, but not someone who can speak for Native people. I can only go by what more experienced people have said and books and readings from them.
I'm using the word "Native" which itself encompasses several different people. I don't use this to imply they are the same or interchangeable with the cultural practices and ideas the Zelda franchise is drawing from.
To your question, I feel it doesn't really change much thematically because neither Zelda nor any of the Hylians in the present day have any cultural features, practices, or attitudes that codify her as a Native person except as a costume or set of resources and knowledge associated with her.
It's not portrayed as if it's her heritage she's been disconnected with, but is effectively portrayed as a white person being introduced to an entirely new culture in how exoticized it is.
With the Zonai, their coded status comes in the form of their way of dressing, the Geoglyphs being Nazca lines, the designs of the shrines, the Zonaite outfit Link has, etc. It also narratively shows up in how it's framed as "archaic" in-game as referenced by the naming of the armor related to the Zonai versus the white rule the land has in the present day and how they're portrayed and characterized around extinction.
It's almost point for point the exact narratives and ideas about Native people colonizers use in real life. Native people imagined as a people who no longer exist but still had worthwhile resources better suited in civilized (white) hands.
A big part of why the myth of Native extinction gets pushed so hard in real life (and in turn is repeated and propagandized in media about Native or Native-coded characters) is because it reframes how we talk about recompense for them.
If you imagine a world and buy into the repeat narrative of Native people all being extinct, there's nobody left to do right by. It helps shape the conversations around policies and decisions by people in power.
Things like environmental justice, land back initiatives, reparations, healthcare access, and many other things Native people advocate for are pushed aside by erasing the people fighting for it. It's a form of colonial erasure meant to justify inaction.
So while Zelda technically is a descendant of the Zonai, the story doesn't really do anything with that to challenge the way it's recreating a colonial narrative about Native people. We've historically seen her as a pure white woman, one whose purity is contrasted with the toxicity and dangerous wickedness of Ganon.
The few times we do get characters with features or a heritage that deviate from eurocentrism (ex. Nabooru, Urbosa, Demise, Princess Hilda, Tetra, Midna, Ganon, Sonia, Telma, etc.) they're either the villain, sympathetic only in how they directly align and submit to Hyrule's power as one of the "good ones" or they're just murdered or erased from the story entirely.
The Gerudo are out looking for boyfriends, but we overwhelmingly see this in relation to white men in-game despite there being numerous dark-skinned Zelda characters in their partners and even in who is spying on them or trying to sneak into Gerudo town as a bunch of creeps.
Zelda as a franchise is very dedicated to positioning whiteness as inherently superior and more desirable.
The (white) Hylians have a god-given right to control and rule, and all of the non-white races of people are better off for it. While Zelda is technically a descendant of a Zonai, we still see her effectively as an innocent and almost holy white woman.
The franchise operates on the idea that some people are born with magic abilities and are essentially destined to rule over others and that any challenge to that superiority is inherently evil. The characters who ever challenge that are either villains or are antagonized and cut down for it.

I just saw your decade-old Ganondorf and Nabooru comic on my dash and am feeling pretty emotional about it too. I remember seeing it on my dash back when nobody liked OoT Ganondorf and thinking “thank GOODNESS someone is still feeding us starving OoT Gdork fans”. Thank you for being so in love with him and the OoT Gerudo all this time ;A; . I hate saying “some of us have loved him forever”, because that’s not the point at all. The point is that he really did have the tiniest fan club back then so every single work stuck out and remains so memorable and meaningful to me (and I’m sure to others), so I really wanted to give you this much-deserved shout out and thank you. You were posting quality OoT content since the dark ages — so thankful for you getting me through my early 20s in the LoZ and Ganondorf fandom, essentially. 😭
I don’t think people realize how important artists are especially for fans who couldn’t invest the time to produce fan content themselves. Unfortunately it means we don’t get to see exactly what we want to, which is totally fair and is the sacrifice one makes for having to focus attention elsewhere, but it just makes those artists who DO produce the content we’re dying to see that much more dear. I hope you never lose your passion for this fandom, because we really love your work and really appreciate your dedication to it 😭.
P.S. Thank you for drawing his long-ass OoT nose since the beginning too. Other designs are lovely too, but that’s really one of the defining traits of OoT Gdork to me lol. I love the way you draw him. It hits so right.
I don't even know how to respond to this, oh my god, this is SUCH a kind message. I didn't realize anyone was really left who followed my work back then, and it's so wild and endearing to hear that you did!
God it WAS a dry well back in the day, huh?? I feel like it was just like me, crazyfreak, and like two other artists posting what we could back then. It's so cool to see how popular Gan is now. ;v; They tried so hard to overwrite him in 2011 and he said "I lived, bitch ✌️ Nobody can do it like Me" (Remember how it was customary to put the latest 'Ganon' design in Super Smash but in 2017 despite Ganondorf not appearing in any game for over a decade they went back to OoT Gan instead of using Demise? The most validating moment of my life tbh.)
I've lost my steam many times, for many reasons, but Gan and this fandom have a permanent place in my heart, even when I don't have the time and focus to make stuff for it. This is so kind and you are so sweet and I really can't express how much it means to me to hear this and to know that my little fixation back then meant so much.
Thank you. <3

SOMMMEEEE QUESTIONS FOR YA :D (Some about your oc and some indulgent ones for myself <3)
What exactly is S'avahili's curse? A.) Why did Hyila/Zelda curse her? B.) Is its the curses fault for her change in looks? and if so why does it change her appearance? C.) Can she remove the curse?
Why does the curse change her so much when it worsens with frost bite?
Is she rabbit folk? a gerudo? A mix of the two? A.) is she constantly reborn into the similar form or does it change? B.) How is she being reborn? The curse? other reasons?
Now foe some indulgent questions
opinion on grim? A.) hate her? love her? wanna shake her around to figure out whats wrong with her? B.) Do you think she should become her own person? Or stay as a puppet?
The Voice!! Other than physicals appearences, did anything else draw you to them? A.) How bad do you see The Voice? If there was a meter from like 1-10
My baby Iolnye! Shes a cutie A.) Thoughts on the lady? Is she what you expected for Grim's love interest? B.) If you had to guess, how old do you think she is?
Do you have any like...theories or thoughts on Grim's lore?
this is the worst mistake of your life 😁 /j
i am entering my cringe mary-sue + rambling era
(s'avahili questions utc because i loredumped a lot,, its all been in my brain for 3 consecutive years)
1.) I literally love Grim and her entire premise, story, character, etc, etc. It's all super cool and I wish I thought of it first (/j)
A.) I want to sit her down on one of those therapy chairs and just.. pick apart her brain like I'm doing surgery
B.) For the romance plot: yes, but horrifically traumatized as she learns what it means to be human and actual emotion because The Voice ruined that for her (before inevitably turning back into a statue because, assumedly, The Voice is no longer with her). Because I love tragedy: no.
2.) I mean this positively, but The Voice really reminds me of the fucked up angel from The Mandela Catalogue or Rher and Per'kele from Fear and Hunger and I am a sucker for divine characters using fear/terror/other means for their own, twisted purposes
A.) If you were to put me and The Voice in a room, they are walking out in a straitjacket with multiple nurses on each side (:
3.) Human-animal people >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
A.) I absolutely love Lolnye, but I really did not expect her AT ALL as Grim's love interest
I originally expected someone from within The Voice's cult because of similarities in circumstance, but I can just as easily rock with someone outside of it with a completely different filed of view
B.) I personally think Grim is around 26-27, so that in turn makes me think Lolnye is around 23-25? Based on her gifted kid status, it kind of makes me think Lolnye would be younger
4.) Since I haven't been in the room where it happens, I don't have a lot of theories or thoughts surrounding Grim, but I am really curious about where you're going with her character and what her views on different things the world both with and without The Voices shades on
1.) To preface, there are 4 goddesses in the venomverse, Nayru, Farore, Din, and Nabooru. Nabooru merged with a demon as a marriage (of flesh) and became Demise. Below them are deities; Hylia-- Zelda, Aram-- Fierce Deity/Link, and Ifetu-- S'avahili. There are more but they're the only ones worth mentioning.
Because of S'avahili's (then Ifetu, when she was originally cursed) connection to anything heat related (the sun goddess, Din, and flaming, burning, hatred incarnate itself, Demise, who formed the Gerudo Deserts and Death Mountain), Zelda (then Hylia) thought to curse her by making her perpetually cold.
Aside from making it near impossible for her to feel warmth (she can feel it, but doesn't do anything for her body temperature) it: flares up when in specific areas (anywhere near saltwater/the ocean or Rito Mountains) giving her chronic pains in her joints, the chills almost entirely freeze her vocal chords, gives her chronic fatigue from the pain and constant amounts of magical energy it takes to keep her from completely freezing over (which can possibly cause worsening degrees of frostbite if not in "safe areas," which can lead to amputation), and make her vulnerable to the Master Sword and light magic.
A.) Hylia originally cursed Ifetu because Nayru and Farore created her as a means to end (or repeatedly defeat) Demise.
(I swear this is all relevant.)
Long story short; Hylia's sleeper agent mind wakes up upon finding out Aram and Ifetu were in a situationship, Sleeper agent! Hylia takes it as Ifetu trying to further "corrupt" Aram and become a marriage of flesh like Demise, Hylia curses Ifetu, and throughout their non-deity reincarnations Zelda just never got rid of it because they both still "hate" each other.
Short story with more information; Hylia and Aram were created by Nayru and Farore while Ifetu and Ganondorf (I don't know his pre-reincarnation name yet 😁) were created by Din and Demise, all four at the height of the gods' war. Hylia and Ifetu were married for a few thousand years prior to the betrayal (Zelda still keeps and wears Ifetu/S'avahili's proposal gifts. The war had entered more of a Cold War state by the time they got together), Aram is officially introduced to Ifetu and they hit it off, Aram awkwardly courts Ifetu (unaware of their relationship, she was not aware he was trying to court her), then sleeper agent Hylia wakes up.
B.) When I first made S'avahili (2015), I had an obsession with making characters that had white hair and characters that were villains' little sisters.
Originally, she only had white hair because I gave Yasehiro (now Yusef) Gerudo-red hair as the prince of Hyrule (Zelda's older brother).
They were supposed to be inverses and then I realized I hated that concept but still wanted her (both of them but this ain't about him) to have a unique appearance that set her apart from other Gerudo.
All that to say: now the answer is yes, her difference in appearance is because of the curse.
In one of the act introductions, it says "The Gerudo had (..) hair made of the same sun she (Din) ruled over," so I figured if the rest of her race would represent the sun and fire in a positive/healthy light, S'avahili would represent the moon and ice in a negative one.
C.) It is possible for S'avahili to remove the curse, but it requires Link.
When S'avahili's presented itself as cuffs around her neck, elbows, and wrists (images below) rather than mainly invisible until prompted, Link needed to carefully cut them off of her in order for the curse to be removed in that lifetime.
Hylia's thoughts regarding the cuffs were "if you trust him so much, you'll have no issue with him putting the Master Sword so close to something so vital."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After deciding to retcon the cuffs, the way to remove the curse instead changed to S'avahili forgetting how to do so once reincarnated and being forced to have someone who does (Koume, Kotake, Ganondorf, and Yusef) to help her and Link do the correct "ritual" to remove it.
Now S'avahili, Link, and whoever remembers has to travel to a specific oasis deep within the deserts, do a prayer, basically drown themselves, and then wake up a few days later with the curse removed.
The only catch is that due to the deserts' two suns (one exclusive to that area), it makes it almost impossible for any race outside the Gerudo and Goron to enter.
They get around that by going at night.
After the curse is removed, it is possible for Link to traverse the deserts without harm (essential for going through the Sand Temple-- Ifetu and Aram's old, abandoned temple) and makes it possible for S'avahili to touch the Master Sword without harm.
The fatigue stays around until her death, unfortunately.
2.) Hylia still had enough common sense so as to not straight up ruin Ifetu's life when she cursed her, which is why she instead made it a progression/timeline.
The beginning is just fatigue, the early stages (upon leaving her "safe zones") are pains in her joints, the middle shows up as frostnip and superficial frostbite, and late stage is deep frostbite or amputation.
Ifetu learned how to avoid worsening the stages of the curse before she died and reborn, allowing the knowledge to be passed into S'avahili.
The only case that has led to amputation (so far) is in Wind Waker, but even that's in specific scenarios.
3.) S'avahili and Ganondorf only have animal traits (a rabbit and boar, respectively) because those were the traits they expressed/representative animals from when they were deities, but they are entirely Gerudo.
(Also because I like drawing characters with animal traits.)
Their ears, tails, (Ganondorf's) horns, and (occasionally) feet serve as a reminder to those outside of the Gerudo (and Goron) that they are Din and Demise's deity children reborn.
(Also because they like them.)
On a related note, their situation are similar to that of the Twili who took their wolfish features from Aram and just never evolved out of them.
A.) The only thing about S'avahili that doesn't change is the fact she's Gerudo, her white hair, and her rabbit features.
It's similar to how Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf reincarnate every life with different looks, but always have key features.
(She can turn into a rabbit though. That's fun.)
B.) Ifetu only died because her brother (deity ganondorf) had been killed, Demise had been sealed away, the other three goddesses had sealed themselves within their elements, she still had horrible feelings towards Hylia, Aram was basically dead, and the rest of the world was beginning to move into a new era which made her figure there really wasn't a use for her anymore.
Ifetu and Aram were only reborn as S'avahili and Link because Aram swore that they'd meet again, he'd never leave her, he'd always protect her, he'd always love her, and other devoted couple nonsense before she put him in his coma and sealed him in the mask.
Upon realizing he had essentially cursed her (because he had not, in fact, devote himself in most of those lifetimes) and because she had abandonment issues, she got the rest of her deity friends to take a vow of reincarnation so she wouldn't have to be alone while she waited to meet Aram again.
(They do not.)
So to answer the question, it's all Aram's fault and he couldn't even make it worthwhile.
(Ganondorf and S'avahili come as a packaged biological big brother-little sister deal because Din and Demise literally made them each others' support.)

Hyrule Warriors Ocarina of Time Ganondorf Playthrough
Tumblr media
Fighter: Ocarina of Time Ganondorf.
Game: Hyrule Warriors, Wii U. First Released on August 14th 2014.
ENTRY WARNING: This post will contain some spoilers for Ocarina of Time, I know it’s old but still want to give a heads up on posts where I have to discuss a major plot-twist. It will go over events in the game which should be common knowledge by now, but if you really want to avoid any spoilers for OOT then I suggest not reading. There are also spoilers for a part of Hyrule Warriors story although despite that being newer I’m less weary of that but thought I’d mention it. Enjoy.
Fighter Bio.
Born to the Gerudo, a race of humans who live in Gerudo desert who are almost all females, Ganondorf was one of the only males who were born into the race once a century. Due to the rarity of this it was seen therefore that this gave the males a birthright to be the King of the Gerudo which Ganondorf grew up to be. Raised by his surrogate Mothers Koume and Kotake, two long lived witches with formidable magic power, Ganondorf became a ruthless tyrant possessed of great physical strength as well as skilled in magic. The Gerudo were often known through Hyrule as a band of thieves and as their King, Ganondorf was also known as the King of Thieves, a title which wasn’t inaccurate since he often pillaged and murdered to take what he wanted. This put him at odds with some of the other Gerudo including the highly respected Nabooru who was his second in command and secretly despised Ganondorf for his brutality. Ganondorf was not just pure brute strength however and calculated a plan to take the power of the Triforce, a treasure left by the Goddesses said to grant unlimited power for himself. To do this he required three spiritual stones as well as the Ocarina of Time to gain access. He attempted to take the stones through magic and trickery in each of the three lands they resided in but was not yet possessed of enough power to outright take them from those defending them, instead plaguing them with monsters that he hoped would force them to give up the stones to him. This was thwarted however when a young boy from the forest called Link managed to defeat all three beasts and gain the stones himself. Meanwhile Ganodorf’s other plan to get the Ocarina of Time was to make a false pledge of allegiance to the King of Hyrule in order to lower his guard, this would both keep the Knights of Hyrule from meddling too much in his plans as well as allow him to learn more of the location of the Ocarina of Time which was in fact in the possession of Princess Zelda. Zelda had prophetic dreams of Ganondorf’s true intent and was the one who sent Link on his mission to find the spiritual stones.
Following Link finding the third stone and returning to the Castle, Ganondorf seemingly learnt the location of the Ocarina of Time and decided to act, his forces invaded Hyrule Castle and in the surprise Ganondorf struck down many soldiers as well as possibly the King himself. Impa, Zelda’s nursemaid and bodyguard fled the castle with her on horseback which Ganondorf followed on his own horse. Outside of the castle Ganondorf lost track of them but came across Link. Seeing him as just a simple child he demanded to know where Impa and Zelda went but Link drew his weapon. Amused he simply blasted Link away and rode off trying to find Zelda himself. Zelda and Impa disappeared following this but unbeknownst to Ganondorf, in her escape Zelda had passed the Ocarina of Time on to Link. Link opened the Door of Time which was said to be the entrance to the Sacred Realm where the Triforce resided and found the Master Sword in the Pedestal of Time. Drawing the sword he was deemed by it not currently capable of wielding the legendary blade since he was a child and therefore was put into a stasis for seven years until he was old enough to. In the process of this however Ganondorf realised the gateway to the Sacred Realm which held the Triforce was now open and he entered thanking Link for leaving the door open for him. Taking the full Triforce however, his heart was deemed too unbalanced to wield its full might and so the only portion granted to him was the Triforce of Power, the Triforce of Courage and Wisdom flying off to find those in the land who were worthy of them. With the Triforce of Power alone however Ganondorf’s power grew exponentially to the point he was able to conquer Hyrule, decimating Hyrule Castle Town and rebuilding Hyrule Castle into his own Fortress.
Seven years of darkness passed with Ganondorf causing destruction and devastation across the world. He would influence those who had bad traits deep in their hearts to act upon them in service to him such as Ingo the beleaguered employee of Lon Lon Ranch who he gives full ownership of the Ranch to and demands the finest steed from for himself. He also wipes out the soldiers of Hyrule to the point none remain seven years later, freezes over Zora’s Domain, captures all the Gorons to imprison them in the Fire Temple, lets monsters run rampant across Kokiri Forest and frees many sealed away horrors from across Hyrule to serve him. The only place Ganondorf spares from his wrath is the Gerudo Desert, although he doesn’t give them any real help or power despite his new position as ruler of Hyrule and is definitely willing to punish any who turn on him such Nabooru. Feeling confident the other two Triforce holders would reveal themselves eventually Ganondorf bided his time. Seven years after conquering Hyrule he became aware that someone who seemed powerful and was a likely candidate to be one of the Triforce holders had travelled through the Forest Temple and defeated a Phantom replica of himself he’d created. Banishing this Phantom to the gap between dimensions following his defeat he personally praised Link recognising him as the boy from all those years ago and therefore likely a candidate for the Triforce of Courage. He tells Link that despite defeating his Phantom he doesn’t stand a chance against his true self. Eventually Link awakens the seven sages who he was advised to seek out to help him defeat Ganondorf and travels back to the Temple of Time. Sheik a mysterious warrior Link had met in his travels reveals themselves to actually be Princess Zelda who had been hiding from Ganondorf for all these years and now was in possession of the Triforce of Wisdom. With this reveal however Ganondorf immediately used his power to capture her and bring her to his Fortress, demanding Link come to save her. Link does so and discovers that this was what Ganondorf had been hoping for all along, that when he kills Link he can reclaim the Triforce of Courage and the Triforce of Wisdom from Zelda. Following a battle to the death Ganondorf was defeated and his fortress begins to collapse. Link and Zelda make a hasty retreat and narrowly escape. From the rubble however Ganondorf rises once again, this time fully powered by the Triforce of Power he transforms into a bestial form known only as Ganon. Link once again fights this beast and following a difficult fight knocks him down long enough for Zelda and the Sages to use their power to seal him away in the Sacred Realm. Ganondorf curses the pair and swears he will return.
Following the battle Princess Zelda sends Link back to his own time since she feels he’s earned the seven years of his life he lost when he drew the Master Sword, this leads to some difficult developments later down the line and through this act creates two different timelines, one in which Link disappears after going back in time and the other where Link returns to his child form. In this new timeline Ganondorf hasn’t yet launched his attack on Hyrule Castle and Link and Zelda are able to prove to the King of Hyrule his plan. Ganondorf is captured and sentenced to death by the seven sages of this time. Link will later leave Hyrule in this timeline and the events of Ganondorf’s execution lead to a whole other event, however that will be covered in another entry. There is one final branch to the timeline from these events however, probably the most important one to Ganondorf himself in Ocarina of Time, this is the Downfall Timeline. This is a timeline where Ganondorf defeats Link in the final battle killing him and claiming the entire Triforce for himself. With this unlimited power he threatens to take over the entire world, but the difference from before when he took over Hyrule is that the Seven Sages are awakened and a long war ensues. The Knights of Hyrule battle against Ganon and his forces whilst the Seven Sages work on sending Ganon into the Sacred Realm which is now transformed through his power into a place known as the Dark World. This event is known as the Imprisoning War and leads onto many other stories in this third branch of the Timeline.
Ganondorf is unique amongst the three Triforce Wielders in the Zelda series in that he is often the same person rather than a reincarnation. There are multiple versions of Ganondorf, however most of them are versions of the Ocarina of Time Ganondorf from different timelines with only one confirmed to be a whole new reincarnation. Due to this being his youngest incarnation this Ganondorf is a lot more brash, arrogant and reckless than he becomes in his later years. This Ganondorf is capable of cunning and willing to play the long game, however he does have a habit of sitting back and waiting for his enemies to move and come to him rather than actively seeking them out. He also therefore tends to underestimate his enemies since the vast majority of those he faces are able to do barely anything against him once he gains the Triforce of Power. In his older years he details his jealousy of Hyrule and how he saw his people suffering from living in an arid harsh desert compared to the green lands the Hylians enjoyed, he does seem to at least treat the Gerudo mildly better than the rest of the world when he takes control, however he doesn’t particularly help them despite his immense power once he gains the Triforce. This makes his claims of doing it for their sake ring somewhat hollow overall. He punishes those who fail or turn on him ruthlessly either banishing them to other dimensions or through his followers brainwashing them to serve as minions against his enemies. He relies a lot on his followers to take care of problems for him and prior to attaining the Triforce seemed fine with simply causing problems to blackmail others into doing what he wants in order for him to fix them such as blocking off the Goron’s food supply and promising to open the cave up again only if they give him the spiritual stone.
Friends: The only possible genuine relationship Ganondorf has is with his surrogate Mothers Koume and Kotake, however this is only ever shown from their loyalty to him and the high position he’s put them in rather than any interactions they have. Beyond this Ganondorf’s forces are loyal to him although it seems this is partially due to him filling the role of the King of Evil rather than true loyalty and respect, a role which in the past had been held by other evils such as Demise and Vaati. Ganondorf is fast to discard those who he deems useless or treacherous as shown when he banished his Phantom doppelganger to the space between dimensions following his loss to Link. Ganondorf has a large Gerudo Stallion he rides prior to gaining the Triforce, however in the future he seems to no longer use it which suggests it possibly didn’t survive or he simply had no further use for it. Ingo of Lon Lon Ranch was planning to give Epona the horse to Ganondorf as a gift which could possibly mean he needed a new one. Of note his Phantom doppelganger rides a ghost horse that looks similar to Ganondorf’s old one, so it’s possible this is the spirit of that horse although this is never confirmed. As King of the Gerudo, Ganondorf seemed respected somewhat but not seen with particular fondness even discounting those like Nabooru who turned on him. When Ganondorf is defeated some Gerudo are seen celebrating alongside the Hylians. Also notable in later games in the timeline many of the customs regarding the males born to the Gerudo becoming King seem to be disregarded and in the far distant future the Gerudo see Ganondorf as a stain on their history.
Enemies/Rivals: Being the main antagonist of the Zelda series as a whole there are very few characters who aren’t somehow negatively impacted by Ganondorf. His most notable enemy is of course Link, although in this incarnation he does not see the boy as a threat until after he’s grown up and even then seems to underestimate just how capable the Hero of Time is, telling him he looks forward to seeing his progress when he first becomes aware of him. Princess Zelda is his main enemy and his failure to track her down over the 7 years Link is in stasis is most likely one of the things that troubles him the most. Other characters Ganondorf either sees as simply an annoyance such as Darunia and the Zora King or does not realise the danger of such as the Sages. Before he gets the Triforce of Power, Ganondorf is a lot more subtle in how he acts attempting to trick the King of Hyrule and blackmail others for what he wants which means despite his arrogance he can recognise obvious threats to his plans and does not underestimate those in positions of power in Hyrule.
Crossovers with other Smash characters: Ganondorf has not made many appearances outside of the Zelda series and this specific version even less so. His only real crossover appearance is similar to other Zelda characters (and also the game I chose for this playthrough) Hyrule Warriors with him having his Ocarina of Time appearance as an outfit. With this he has crossed over with the majority of Zelda characters who have appeared in Super Smash Bros.
Tumblr media
Why this game?
So the biggest reason for this is simply like other Zelda characters, this game is the only one outside of Super Smash Bros where Ganondorf is playable. There is another aspect that makes this even more important for Ganondorf than most others but I’ll detail that in the playthrough itself.
Tumblr media
My past with this character.
I referenced this somewhat in my post on Bowser but since this is one of the ‘big three’ as I put it, I felt it needs to be restated. To me when it comes to Nintendo there are three main iconic villains that I believe set up the scale of evil, Ganondorf, Bowser and King Dedede. At the bottom end of the scale is King Dedede a villain who even at his worst is a petty greedy jerk and whilst not an outright joke has never actually enacted plans with aims much beyond simply stealing all the food in Dreamland, often his worst actions tend to have been done due to him being possessed and in recent years he actually seems to have joined Kirby more often than opposed him. Next is Bowser who is the most adaptable villain Nintendo has in my opinion, he can be involved in something as petty as trying to ruin a party to conquering the world with his army, travelling through time and even attempting to build his own galaxy, not to mention the amount of times he’s taken cosmic powers for his own. Then at the opposite end of the scale to King Dedede is Ganondorf, there’s no way he’d ever be the main adversary behind some simple minigame, face off against characters in competitions or actually put his differences aside to fight alongside Link and Zelda against another foe, Ganon will more often be the power behind that other foe (and has been numerous times to the point ‘highjacked by Ganon’ is considered a trope.) He will have some nuance and there’s still an origin to him beyond just being pure evil, however out of villains in Nintendo’s major series Ganondorf is the poster child for the most evil. I have realised writing this however that in recent years this idea I’ve had is perhaps now somewhat outdated, I don’t know if it’s fair to bring series like Xenoblade into this, but given the prominence of Fire Emblem nowadays at any rate means there’s arguably other villains who are perhaps more outright disgusting and twisted than Ganon tends to be, still when it comes to a more overt ‘King of Evil’ without being too tongue-in-cheek about it then Ganon’s still probably the top of the scale.
For his appearance in Ocarina of Time I always found it interesting how despite his size and artwork suggesting so, he’s a lot less hands-on than you’d assume. His sword in this incarnation has only ever been seen in a tech demo for the Gamecube and Super Smash Bros with his actual attacks in the game always being magic based which makes this incarnation arguably the most like a dark mage out of all of them. He has a pretty distinctive laugh which fits this arrogant younger incarnation with his other later appearances where he gets to laugh often having an older more unhinged feel fitting of how weary they often are in comparison. It’s interesting for Super Smash Bros Ultimate they decided to bring this version of Ganondorf back again, overall I think he definitely has a design that stands out more with his brighter red cape and hair than other versions of him, I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite,  but I do like this version on the whole.

So, the big reason I hinted to that Hyrule Warriors is important for Ganondorf and the best choice for my Smash Playthrough isn’t simply that he’s playable, but that he actually has his own storyline you can play through in the main game. I detailed the plot with Cia in Sheik’s post before but I purposefully left out what happens after her defeat. The heroes celebrate and peace returns to Hyrule, the locations brought from other times as well as the heroes brought with them all return to their original timelines and all is well, however without Cia sealing Ganondorf’s spirit, unbeknownst to the heroes he returns once more. The version of Ganondorf in Hyrule Warriors has a unique design which takes elements of a few of his main series designs but similar to Link, Zelda and Impa is meant to be a unique version of the King of Evil. With two villains that were summoned by Cia from other time periods and thought dead, Zant the King of Twilight and Ghirahim the Demon Lord now pledging their allegiance to Ganondorf he begins his campaign to take the Triforce for himself. What follows this is three stages of getting to fight as Ganondorf on his campaign, starting off forcing unruly monsters to follow his command, fighting the Gorons and then taking on Hyrule’s forces themselves along with Zelda and Link.
These levels are great, Ganondorf is set up so that playing as him feels a lot more powerful than any other character you’ve used in the story mode so far (even Darunia with his hammer) and getting the chance to actually be Ganondorf fighting Hyrule for the first time ever was to me as great as it could be. It’s only three stages and following it you take control of the heroes again now having to defeat a Ganondorf who has the full Triforce, but honestly for just plain fanservice fun I enjoyed it and I don’t know what more you could really expect from a Hyrule Warriors game (this was before things like Age of Calamity started being semi-canon etc of course). The best stage naturally has to be the final one of playing as Ganondorf where you have to fight the Hylian forces outside Hyrule Castle. This is a repeat of the very first map in the game but with a changed perspective of you invading the Castle this time. It also has what I considered the hardest boss of story mode and one who beat me multiple times which is taking down Link and Zelda. They’re both formidable and a lot more dangerous than anyone else Ganondorf faces and on top of that they have to both be beaten within a similar timeframe or else one of them will recover after a couple of minutes. If they reach one of the bases you’ve captured they can take it back and fortify it fairly quickly which makes taking them down even more of a priority, still I’d still say it’s more fun than frustrating (although it has frustrating elements to it.)
To play as Ganondorf is fairly enjoyable, as I said he feels powerful, but also his attacks are all fairly decent from what I remember, especially compared to other characters. He can be somewhat slow which is to be expected, although he later was given a second weapon being his Trident. Whilst this Trident isn’t from Smash so I didn’t use it, it is Ganon’s signature weapon going all the way back to the original Legend of Zelda on NES where he wielded it in his ‘pig’ beast form and is a lot faster whilst still being fairly powerful. Ganondorf’s main weapon has a darkness element and his Trident has a lightning element. Beyond this since I wanted to specifically go over this part of storymode in Ganondorf’s post there’s not a lot more to say, it’s a lot of fun and even with Age of Calamity later it’s still something unique in the whole Zelda series being able to play as Ganon fighting Hyrule. If you like the style of Warriors games and are really into Zelda I’d say it’s worth a look.
Specific aspects about the game relating to Ganondorf in Smash.
Before I begin about what I did in this game to setup Ganondorf, the most important thing with Ganondorf which has long been the elephant in the room in a sense relating to him is his Smash moveset. In Super Smash Bros Melee, unlike almost every other character whose moves are taken from their games or at least meant to represent what they could do (Captain Falcon for example having a lot of Falcon based moves and Fox using various gadgets) Ganondorf didn’t have anything from his appearances in the Zelda series starting off being a slower more powerful clone of Captain Falcon. Due to this all of Ganondorf’s moves were punches, kicks and grapples which beyond the rare attack he wouldn’t use in the Zelda series. With Super Smash Bros 4′s addition of custom moves he finally gained an attack involving a sword, however that I will cover in another post. The main thing of importance however is that in Super Smash Bros Ultimate Ganondorf was able to use a sword for some attacks for the first time, something that allowed him to be different to Captain Falcon but still (to me) kept enough of the feel of how he’s always played in the series so as to not make him feel like a totally different character.
The Great Swords are Ganondorf’s main weapon and based on his latest appearance in Smash Ultimate the closest you can get to his sword in that. Whilst not a perfect match, one of his Swords of Despair looks similar to what’s known as the ‘Spaceworld Sword’ which has only ever appeared in Smash and a demo at Spaceworld for the Gamecube and is the only sword the Ocarina of Time Ganondorf’s ever been shown to wield. There’s also an attack (YYYYX) that Ganondorf uses with the Great Swords which summons a dark ball of energy in front of him which he then performs a heavy punch on that shoots it as smaller dark energy balls in front of him. This move always looked very much to me the same as his Warlock Punch from Smash, with him pulling back slowly before performing the punch and the dark energy matching the dark magic that surrounds his hand in Smash Bros. Beyond this for Ocarina of Time Ganondorf, the Era of the Hero of Time Armour is the final thing needed to make him pretty much the closest you’ll get to Smash Bros OOT Ganondorf in another game. Ganondorf’s Final Smash being a transformation is fairly unique so I’m planning to cover that when I get to the posts for Bosses in Smash rather than here.

I purchased and have been playing Miitopia as of late. It’s really fun. The Mii Makeup editor is a nice puzzle solving sort of thing. I have to make all of these random shapes and colors look like what I want.  I made my LOZ Nymph OCs and added them into the silly fun. If anyone would like them, too, and the other characters I’ve made available, I’m 6D2PDMV  I may go back over little Savori at some point, if just to change her lips.  But here you have it. Savori, Silhk, and Sevyn. The Nabooru is an honorable mention. I edited it from 37blxdd (On the left). My change is on the right. More of the version of Nabooru that I draw.

@synthetixviola asked: F, U, V? (Nabs, Vegeta and Turles respectively. Or all three if you feel like a madlad)
Headcanon A-Z || Open!
F - Friend - What kind of friend are they? How do they judge potential friends? Where do they draw the line between platonic and romantic relationships? How far would they go for a friend? How do they handle conflict in relationships?
Tumblr media
[Nabooru is a pretty decent friend, I think. Once she deems you worthy of friendship and you don’t break her trust, she stays pretty loyal and would do just about anything for those she considers her close friends. She’s fairly closed off and not particularly searching for friendships, she probably judges potential candidates on their open mindedness, trust, acceptance, and having similar interests to hers.
As far as where she draws the line between romantic and platonic relationships is hm...tough to say? Not in the sense that she’s crossing people’s boundaries willy nilly and trying to be romantic with people that don’t want that with her, but more like she’s more likely to establish a romantic relationship with someone who she has a proper and deeper trust and friendship with. If any of that makes sense.
Nabs would go pretty far for those she considers friends because it takes a lot to establish a proper friendship with her. She wants them to be happy and safe and would do what she could to ensure that. For conflict, as long it’s not something she deems unforgivable or trust has been irreparably damaged, she typically gives her friends a chance to explain themselves and find a civil solution. Otherwise, she isn’t above cutting things off when trust is broken.]
U - Ugly - What traits to they find unattractive in others? Do they have any of those traits themselves?
Tumblr media
[Vegeta isn’t particularly hung up on physical appearances as making or breaking his opinion of a person. But he would say that cowardice, lack of pride, too much dependence on others to live or for validation, and an inability to stand up for oneself is unattractive to him. HE doesn’t see these traits in himself, but he has shown moments of cowardice when he faced Frieza and wavered in his pride a few times, but in general he doesn’t really have these traits MOST of the time.]
V - Visionary - Do they have a plan for their future? How imaginative or creative are they? Do they have vivid dreams?
Tumblr media
[DOES TURLES HAVE PLANS! HA! Yes. Turles has plans on plans on plans. He plans to take over the universe and destroy the Cold Empire and anyone else who tries to stand in his way while he does it. He is very creative and enjoys thinking up new experiments to try and new ways to conquer and whatnot. He actually doesn’t dream often though, but when he does, they are pretty vivid.]

ZELDA, HER APPEARANCE & HER FEELINGS REGARDING IT  /
talking with amber about the differences between the appearances in our respective zeldas got me motivated to finish this headcanon, finally ! i love zelda’s ocarina of time design, because y’know, imprinting on your very first zelda game & all that, but there’s always room for improvement, right ? these are my ( questionable ) improvements ! this headcanon ... got away from me little bit when i started to talk out my reasoning for zelda’s choice in how she presented herself as queen. i intended on talking about how she looks in other verses, too, such as when she’s a spectre in the queen’s shade universe, but i feel that would suit better as an entirely separate post, so, that’ll come in time ! i hadn’t intended on putting this post under a read more, because i feel it’s a fairly important headcanon & i’d like people to read it, but - surprise ! - it’s really long, & it would feel really rude to just leave it uncut, so behind the black it goes - that, & it also deals with body issues & negative perceptions of one’s body, so please keep that in mind if you’re sensitive to that sort of content. that said, & i’m aware of the irony of this sentence after the last, but i hope you guys at least find it an enjoyable read !  ♡
the three basic tenets of her appearance which have appeared in most of her predecessors & descendants ( pale, blue-eyed, blonde-haired ) apply in most, if not all, of my verses for zelda  but there are only a few verses of mine where i would say zelda’s appearance is exactly as it is within the game & the official art provided by nintendo - primarily the earliest arc of my canon verses, when she’s still the little princess, & the au which follows the events of the child timeline, where she never goes on the run & so never becomes sheik. she’s still quite fit, thanks to horseback riding & regular exercise, overseen by impa, but it’s in this au she most embodies the slim, graceful princess look nintendo gave her. one constant in all her adult verses, however, is her height - by the time she’s fully grown, she’s 5′8″.
in my other main, canon-inspired verses, well - zelda goes on the run at age ten, & it’s from that age impa begins to teach her how to fight, as she knows that she cannot protect her forever, & she’s going to need to become self-sufficient if she wants to survive. it starts off with basic things, graduating into an intense regime, but the result is, by the time link awakens from his slumber, zelda, even whilst disguised as sheik, is broad-shouldered & visibly muscled. i choose to interpret the tanned skin, red eyes & shorter hair as part of a glamour zelda put up, out of fear that ganondorf was searching for girls matching her description á la wind waker, but the muscles get to stay because whilst her appearance might be fake when under this alias, her feats are not. she did, after all, manage to survive seven years in a monster-infested hyrule, stay in the heart of death mountain without a visible goron tunic, & for whatever reason, was at kakariko village before link when the seal holding bongo-bongo back began to break, & i choose to interpret that as her being prepared to fight it. she also managed to make it through the haunted wasteland to the desert colossus / the spirit temple, sans lens of truth, & as she presents as an androgynous, masculine-leaning figure, she might have also had to prove her worth to the gerudo in battle, just as link did - after all, even though the gerudo, such as nabooru, openly disavow ganondorf by that point in time, it would be madness to declare her true self in his hometown.
this piece of fanart by lord-lorens is, honestly, the closest thing to how i picture zelda’s body type whilst she masquerades as sheik, & afterwards, when she reassumes her identity as princess. ( is there a gossip stone out there saying princess zelda has an eight pack ? there’s nothing in canon to disprove this, so yes. ) the only thing which stops it being entirely perfect for me is my headcanons of where across her body zelda is scarred ( which could be another, much smaller headcanon, so i’ll leave it for that ) but considering everyone’s interpretation of how zelda lived as sheik is varied, it was bound to happen - but god, minus those, i just want to pin this somewhere on my blog with an enormous sign next to it which says  ❛ this is how my zelda looks, as both sheik & a princess. ❜ but, with that in mind, lets move on.
i think it’s interesting how similar zelda’s outfit is as an adult ( which she ISN’T, she’s SEVENTEEN, but i digress - ) to the one she wears as a child, & my interpretation of it is that it’s very deliberate - & another glamour. ( seriously, where the fuck would she get a dress like that ? ) zelda hasn’t been seen in public, as herself, in seven years. the last people saw of her, as mentioned by those in castle town prior to drawing the master sword, is her fleeing the castle on horseback with her attendant, & that might have been the first glimpse some people had of her at all. when ganondorf is sealed away, & she re-emerges, she’s dressed similarly in order to spark recognition in people’s minds, & also because she knows that it may be difficult to prove she is who she claims to be, considering the king is dead, & impa has ascended as a sage, & can’t vouch for her. surviving nobles who interrogate her on her memories are able to confirm her claim to the throne, but if she had just strolled into kakariko village in casual dress, it’s very likely she would have absolutely been dismissed.
because of this, zelda’s feelings towards her appearance end up... complicated. in the aforementioned child timeline au verse, where she has a privileged, but more normal, adolescent socialization, she’s quite accepting of her own appearance & how feminine it is, because in that timeline, she fits the mold of what people expect a princess to be - she’s tall, she’s graceful, she’s pretty, & she’s rewarded for fitting that ideal. in her canon universe, where a life on the run left her with an entirely different body type, an indifference to feminity, many insecurities about her suitability as queen of hyrule, especially in her first years of being on the throne, & a desire to conform to others expectations of her ... it’s a perfect storm, whose origins can be traced directly to her choice to homage her childhood dress during her reappearance in hylian society.
insecurity & fear feeds a lot of her choices in how she presents herself at the beginning of her reign. her body type is what some would call androgynous, others vaguely masculine - broad shoulders & small breasts which combine to give the illusion of her hips being narrower than they are, & she though she herself is content with that, she fears scorn by others because of it, so she works to minimize these features, & she plays up to feminity. her wardrobe primarily consists of dresses, gowns & robes, all loose fitting, all sleeved to at least the elbow, preferably in a style which leaves her biceps covered, & indistinct beneath the fabric. the gold pauldrons she wears as an adult feature in most, if not all, of her garments until her official coronation, seven years after ganondorf was sealed away - they provide her a measure of security, give her a regal appearance, & do a lot of heavy lifting, in conjunction with the sleeves of her gowns, to hide her shoulders & biceps, to the point where people are surprised at just how muscled she is when they come off - she hides the results, but even as queen, she still trains as she did when she was in hiding. most people are accepting of how she looks, but as is always the way, the few harsh comments she hears deafen her to the compliments - the only thing zelda wants, in the end, is for hyrule to recover, & for her people to thrive, & for that, she needs to be a good queen to them. to be a good queen, she must live up to their expectations. her attempts to live up to that via her appearance lead to her first breakdown, three months after her coronation.
it’s not just her appearance, of course - there’s enough stress to go around trying to get hyrule back on its feet again in a fair way, whilst trying to make her own mark as queen & live up to her parents’ peacekeeping legacy - but the nitpicking from a few members of her court, & the constant moving of goalposts as she attempts to satisfy their criticisms of her appearance, is the catalyst for her eventual declaration that she is done trying to satisy other people’s unreasonable explanations. the queenly mask she wears for other people’s benefit is suffocating her, so she decides to break it, & forge a new one. if she is going to be feminine, it is because she chooses to be, not because people expect her to be. if she wishes to dress as a man does, who can stop her ? if androgyny is what she feels, she will not deny herself. so, after a good cry, zelda does what every twenty-four year old going through a tough time does - she cuts her hair. she no longer tries to hide her body or disguise her frame. she is the queen, & the people will accept her as she is.
& most do ! hyrule has some strange looking people in it. a queen with a pixie cut is not the end of the world. she keeps it short for a good while, as a symbol of both her & hyrule’s fresh start, but eventually she begins to let it grow out again, with its length varying at ... well, various important points in her life. a short bob when she begins the programme to build new villages & settlements in hyrule. shoulder length when she begins courting to secure the throne for the future. waist length when she marries. she cuts it to above her shoulders once more when her first child is born, & keeps it mostly at that length until the end of her life, mostly for practical reasons. she was never ashamed of her body, before or after she became queen, as it was proof of her survival, but she became a lot more confident in herself as queen after she stopped letting other people, & her own well-intentioned, if misguided, fantasies of what a queen should look like dictate her life. that doesn’t mean to say that was that, every dark thought about her appearance swept away - there were days afterwards where she still despaired of her appearance, of the image she was projecting to others, of the judgements being passed on her & her country that came from her looks alone - but they were infrequent compared to the constant anxiety she felt about her appearance prior to the night she took a knife to her hair. they also weren’t enough to stop her from maintaining her physique, either - the training regime she began as a child continued into her late sixties, when she finally felt confident enough in the kingdom’s safety to stop, but the results of it meant that zelda was powerfully built through her whole life. even the birth of her children, which softened her body, couldn’t diminish much of her muscled appearance. shedding the weight of others opinions ( of her appearance, at least ) allowed her to stand tall until the end of her days. her body told the story of her life, & eventually, she was proud to let people see it.

Okay, so a while ago @whindsor asked me about my dream Legend of Zelda show and while I tried to answer on my computer, chrome kept crashing because my ideas were too amazing.
So here it is:
Tumblr media
As much as I would love to see a brand new story with a bunch of amazing characters and new ways to develop them, I’m so afraid that people would ruin it with awful writing.
My main pick is 100% Ocarina of Time. It’s the most well known, has a large cast of interesting characters, and has a plot that could keep people invested.
My second choice is Breath of the Wild.
That being said, my choices for the main three would stay that way regardless of what game they used.
CAST:
Link: Colin Ford.
While I prefer Link to be an unknown, especially because translating his character is going to be hard enough without worrying whether or not the person they chose could act, this is a fan cast and I can’t just say, an unknown for my pick.
I scoured some sites with some online FanCasts and Colin Ford was really the only one that I liked. He’s been in the industry forever and we know he can lead a show because he was on Daybreak (which is amazing). He also just looks like how I would imagine Link (aside from the hair but we can just dye it)
Honorable Mentions: Bradley James, William Moseley
Tumblr media
Princess Zelda: Eliza Taylor
Zelda is a hard role to cast. She needs to be a strong leader who has agency, but also compassionate and kind. Eliza Taylor is excellent at walking those two lines and her performance in the latest season of “the 100″ only cemented that for me.
Eliza Taylor wasn’t the first one that came to mind, but she’s the best one for this type of role. She’s been playing the Burdened leader for years. On top of this, she has experience in stunts and fight scenes which lends itself well to Sheik, and she looks like Zelda. I think she could play off the other two really well.
Honorable Mentions: Hannah New, Caity Lotz
Tumblr media
Ganon/Ganondorf: Manu Bennett
This is non negotiable. Manu is the best person for the role of Ganondorf period. He has the look, and he’s amazing at playing intimidating and complex villains. Manu has the ability to garner sympathy for his characters, regardless of how evil they may seem.
On top of this, He’s been in the industry forever, has experience with filming Fantasy shows and stunts, and he just has the commanding presence that Ganondorf needs. His voice is also perfect for the role, with his accent not too heavy but still there to sound unique.
Ganon was always the hardest one for me to cast, but since finding Manu I can’t imagine anyone else in the role.
Honorable Mentions: Idris Elba
Tumblr media
The Sages
note: these are based on looks and vibes. Their explanations will be short and sweet.
Rauru: Ian McShane or Jonathan Pryce
I’m torn between the two of them because they’d both make great mentor-type figures to Link, so I just listed them both. They have the same vibe, and have played these types of roles before (although I haven’t seen much of Ian McShane’s filmography)
Tumblr media
Impa: Adina Porter
Zoe Saldana will always be my number one pick for Impa, but since she’s kind of a big deal, I went with someone who could just as easily pull off that role. Adina has played the mentor role before while kicking ass and can walk the fine line between motherly and strict, which Impa is. She’s a fantastic actress and would be awesome as Impa.
Honorable Mention: Thandie Newton
Tumblr media
Saria: Millie Bobby Brown
My thoughts with the sages were that this was an area where they could utilize bigger names since they don’t appear onscreen that often. Millie Bobby Brown could definitely draw in some fans, especially if this was on Netflix. She also has the look and demeanor of Saria down, and she’s young enough to portray her.
Honorable Mention: Kiernan Shipka.
Tumblr media
Darunia: Dwayne Johnson
Again, I was thinking Star Power, and Dwayne Johnson would be perfect as Darunia. His nickname is “the Rock”. Dwayne Johnson is familiar with comedic relief roles and I think he would really bring out the fun side of Darunia, especially if you imagine him doing the dance to Saria’s song.
Honorable Mention: Nonso Anonzie
Tumblr media
Ruto: Gemma Chan
There’s no one else I want cast for this role than Gemma Chan. She’s excellent at playing those aloof-type princess roles and could bring a more serious and sympathetic side to Ruto, especially because she’s already a pretty divisive character depending on who you talk to.
Tumblr media
Nabooru: Summer Bishil
My love for Summer is no secret, but I genuinely think she could do such a good job playing Nabooru. If her work in the Magicians is any indication, she knows what she’s doing and puts a lot of thought into her characters, which needs to be done for the Gerudo, especially because of the not-great history of racism Nintendo has when it comes to them.
Honorable Mention: Nazanin Boniadi
Tumblr media
The Others
Malon: Sophie Turner
Talon: Danny Devito
Ingo: tbd
King of Hyrule: Bernard Hill
Young Zelda: McKenna Grace
Young Link: Walker Bryant
Young Ruto: tbd
Young Malon: Sadie Sink or Summer Fontana

......And the rest!
From the first ask meme:
12. Top 3 items? = Bow/Arrow, Hookshot/Longshot, and Spinner.
13. Top 3 non-Hylian races? = Kokiri, Goron and Zora.
14. Top 3 masks? = Bunny Hood, Mask of Truth, Fierce Diety’s Mask.
15. Top 3 dungeons? = Forest Temple (OoT), Arbiter’s Grounds (TP), Ancient Cistern (SS).
16. BotW champions from favorite to least favorite = Mipha, Revali, Urbosa, Daruk.
17. OoT sages from favorite to least favorite = Saria, Ruto, Darunia, Nabooru, Impa.
18. One thing you would change about Skyward Sword = Improve the overworld. Make it bigger and better than what’s actually in the game, have there be less revisits to the same places, and not make it so that each region is progressively more frustrating than the last.
19. Favorite location from Ocarina of Time = Kakariko Village. So nice and peaceful.
20. Favorite character from Twilight Princess = Midna, as stated before.
And now for the other ask meme:
Favorite game in the series = Ocarina of Time.
Least favorite game in the series = Tri Force Heroes.
Favorite character = That’d have to be Link by default, wouldn’t it?
Least favorite character = At the risk of being unoriginal, TINGLE.
Favorite version of Link = Ocarina of Time Link.
Favorite version of Zelda = Skyward Sword Zelda.
Favorite female character = Zelda, of course.
Favorite male character = Tie between Link and Ganondorf.
Favorite main character = Midna from Twilight Princess.
Favorite side character = Link’s “harem” from OoT (Saria, Malon, Ruto, Nabooru)
Favorite area (from any game) = Hyrule Castle is always iconic.
Favorite villain = Ganondorf, naturally.
When did you get into the series? How did you find out about it? = I got into it / found out about it through a relative’s old NES, which included the original game.
If you could develop the next Zelda game, what would it be like? = I really want to see a modern-day or futuristic take on Zelda, like what Final Fantasy VII did for FF.
What spin-off game would you like to see? (ex - Sports game, Party game, Racing game, etc.) = A Party game would be awesome!
What cross-over game would you like to see with Legend of Zelda? (ex Legend of Zelda + Mario) = A Zelda and Final Fantasy crossover would be amazing.
What character would you put in Hyrule Warriors that isn’t already in the game? = GROOSE! I seriously cannot believe he’s NOT a character. It seems so obvious!
If you could live in Hyrule, where would you live? What would you do for a living? (Be a little more imaginative than just “I wanna be the hero” or “I would be the princess of Hyrule”) = A villager of Kakariko in OoT who would befriend “Sheik” as “he’s” growing up there with Impa. Maybe I know his true identity, maybe I don’t.
We’ve sort of seen the beginnings of Hyrule - What do you think the endings would be? = Breath of the Wild, obviously.
If you only had 3 days to live in Termina, what would you do? Assume you are not playing the role of Link. = Help out at Romani Ranch.
Which piece of the Triforce do you think best represents yourself? = Wisdom.
Draw yourself as a character from Hyrule (Don’t just put yourself in Link’s clothes, think about what the average citizens wear) = Pass.
If you had the full Triforce, what would you do with it? = Give it to someone more responsible than me to wield it, like Princess Zelda. I’d be too overwhelmed by it.
If you turned into a wolf or other form of beast/animal in the Twilight, what would you look like? Feel free to draw it. = Pass.
What’s one thing that you want to see the most from the series? (ex - Remake of your favorite game, a new style of game, new TV show or comic, etc.) = My answer to number 14 applies here. A Zelda game in a modern/futuristic setting please!
What DLC pack would you make for Hyrule Warriors that hasn’t already been done? = One with fucking GROOSE in it! Damn it, why the hell isn’t he playable!?
What do you think a Legend of Hilda game would be like? = A game where you end up realizing that you’ve been a villain all along, helping out a crazy amoral princess.
What character(s) or event would you like to see more backstory on? = How exactly did Ganon fully return to life by the time of the original game? Did Twinrova and Yuga’s shenanigans with his soul have anything to do with it, or was it another event?
What’s your favorite part of Legend of Zelda games? (ex - Getting all the collectibles, exploring, doing dungeons, fighting bosses, story, etc.) = Exploration. That’s the core of any Zelda game, per Shigeru Miyamoto’s own admission.
If you could only play one Legend of Zelda game for the rest of your life, which one would it be? = To bring this full-circle: Ocarina of Time.

Lost Woods/Kokiri Forest, Clocktown
Favourite villain Skull Kid, bc I related
Favourite Ship SheikxLink, MidnaxLink, MidnaxZelda, ZeldaxGanon when it’s not creepy noncon shit
NoTP
eh
no
When did you get into the series? How did you find out about it?
My brothers are significantly older than I am; they had an original NES and would always play the games. I got into OoT when we got a 64 for Christmas.
If you could develop the next Zelda game, what would it be like? You could play as Link or Zelda; Zelda has her alter-ego as Sheik but she’s actually open about it to Link--it would in fact make sense for her to be, since she’s royal. Much as I like writing about her being secretive and shit, it does make some sense for Link to know, even if few other people do
Aesthetically: a really green and purple game. I’m not sure how the actual characters and stuff would look, but the sounds would be so important--the howling of wind, crackling of lightning, rain, etc.
What spin-off game would you like to see? (ex - Sports game, Party game, Racing game, etc.)
I’d play a party game so hard
What cross-over game would you like to see with Legend of Zelda? (ex Legend of Zelda + Mario)

“Sav’aaq” The Gerudo form my Zelda AU. Thoughts and ideas under the cut!
Upon learning of the presence of the sheikah in the desert, the King and his guard journeyed through the sands to meet the shadow people, not knowing what to expect. After Ganondorf took over Hyrule, the Gerudo disappeared from the map for two reasons: first, their King had betrayed them and everything they stood for; second, the world wanted them dead. The poes were usually enough to keep outsiders at bay, but their bond to the sheikah (who hadn’t seen one in decades) lead them to inform the king.
Link was raised just like any other gerudo, he slept, studied and trained with his sisters until the age of ten, moment when his royal instruction began and he got separate sleeping quarters.
Since she was a child, Nabooru proved to be the strongest warrior of her generation and was considered candidate for Queen. She was fifteen when Link was born and her destiny changed, going from queen to General, and the regent’s right-hand.
Urbosa liked to help the mothers in the nursery, so when Link was born she took a liking to him (at first because of how loud he was) and always found a way to spend time with him, despite their eight year difference. Because of the bond they shared, and her abilities, the elders picked her to be his personal guard. At the age of fourteen she started her training under Nabooru’s wing. That’s it for now. Their designs took a while, especially when it came to colors. I love how bright their outfits are in BotW but they didn’t really work for me considering how dark the whole thing is in this AU. I will play more with their everyday outfits, that’s for sure! Also, I wanted to keep some of the Voe vibe in Link’s armor, hence why it’s more pretty than functional (also it doesn’t really make much sense to cover him from head to toe, just to have the girls in tops and skirts). This AU is just a bunch of concept pieces I’m putting together, it’s not a written thing. There was a plot bunny running around and Im playing with it. If this inspires anyone in any way, please feel free to write or draw whatever comes to your mind, just remember to link back to my AU so others may find it as well :)
More on my legend_of_zelda tag.

Legend of Zelda Tag Game
Legend of Zelda Tag game
tagged by: @greenieloveszelink
Legend of Zelda Tag Favourite game in the series A Link to the Past, Majora’s Mask, Breath of the Wild
Least favourite game in the series Skyward Sword (Not that I dislike it)
Which games haven’t you yet played? Literally none, but there’s a few I need to replay for memory’s sake
Favourite character Zelda, duh
Least favourite character I really can’t come up with one
Favourite version of Link TP and BotW
Favourite version of Zelda TP, Zelda, and SS
Favourite female character Zelda, and then Mipha
Favourite male character Link
Favourite main character Zelda
Favourite side character Nabooru, probably (in a graphic novel I read, she has an hilarious and lovable personality and I gained a lot of love for Nabs)
Favourite area (from any game) Hyrule Field from Ocarina is a nostalgia bomb for me
Favourite villain Majora!
Favourite Ship Zelink is life <3
NoTP Not really anything? I support all ships
When did you get into the series? How did you find out about it? When I was really young (can’t remember an exact age), I started playing Ocarina of Time. Since then it’s been one of my favourite video game series’.
If you could develop the next Zelda game, what would it be like? I’d love to see a game like BotW but you can play as Zelda, really
What spin-off game would you like to see? (ex - Sports game, Party game, Racing game, etc.) I’m with greenie on the Zelda in Mario Kart thing
What cross-over game would you like to see with Legend of Zelda? (ex Legend of Zelda + Mario) I’d love to see Zelda + Metroid just to see how badly it would turn out
What character would you put in Hyrule Warriors that isn’t already in the game? The Champions from BotW (Both old and new)
If you could live in Hyrule, where would you live? What would you do for a living? (Be a little more imaginative than just “I wanna be the hero” or “I would be the princess of Hyrule”)
I’d definitely be super adamant about joining the Hylian Guard. I wanna be a modern cop so I’d probably wanna be a medieval cop.
We’ve sort of seen the beginnings of Hyrule - What do you think the endings would be?
I’d love to see an ending that is a convergence of the three timelines with Hylia herself destroying Ganon for good
If you only had 3 days to live in Termina, what would you do? Assume you are not playing the role of Link.
Probably leave? Seems like the sensible thing to do.
Which piece of the Tri-Force do you think best represents yourself? Courage, 100%
Except for when it comes to girls, cause goddamn am I socially awkward
Draw yourself as a character from Hyrule (Don’t just put yourself in Link’s clothes, think about what the average citizens wear)
I can’t draw ;~;
If you had the full Tri-Force, what would you do with it? Wish for eternal peace and the destruction of Ganondorf
If you turned into a wolf or other form of beast/animal in the Twilight, what would you look like? Feel free to draw it.
I’d probably be a Gazelle or something, considering I’m fast AF but that’s about it, really
What’s one thing that you want to see the most from the series? (ex - Remake of your favourite game, a new style of game, new TV show or comic, etc.)
Zelda playability please Nintendo
What DLC pack would you make for Hyrule Warriors that hasn’t already been done?
Like I said above, the champions from BotW
What do you think a Legend of Hilda game would be like? Probably the opposite of Legend of Zelda (badumtss)
What character(s) or event would you like to see more backstory on?
Majoraaaaaaaaa
What’s your favourite part of Legend of Zelda games? (ex - Getting all the collectibles, exploring, doing dungeons, fighting bosses, story, etc.)
One hundred percenting the games has always been my favourite. Searching for all of the little things is so fulfilling, especially when that completion screen says 100%, and it basically includes every aspect of the game with it, so double win
If you could only play one Legend of Zelda game for the rest of your life, which one would it be? Breath of the Wild, probably
Are there any Figma, Nendoroids, World of Nintendo figures you’d want to see?
I’d love to see a figma of the BotW Link and Zelda that didn’t look like the mannequin looking Link and Zelda amiibos.
Are there any future Zelda games you’d like to see?
I’ll probably be satisfied with whatever Nintendo’s got in store for us.

When did you get into the series? How did you find out about it? My brother bought The Adventure of Zelda and The Adventure of Link on the NES and I’ve been hooked ever since.
If you could develop the next Zelda game, what would it be like? A 2D top down game like as a sequel to Minish Cap. I really just want more of that game.
What spin-off game would you like to see? (ex - Sports game, Party game, Racing game, etc.) A fighting Game like Smash Bros. with the LoZ crew, but honestly Hyrule Warriors scratched my spin-off itch (it’s soooo good!)
What cross-over game would you like to see with Legend of Zelda? (ex Legend of Zelda + Mario) Can Link appear in ?
What character would you put in Hyrule Warriors that isn’t already in the game? Urbosa, Nabooru, Vaati.
If you could live in Hyrule, where would you live? What would you do for a living? (Be a little more imaginative than just “I wanna be the hero” or “I would be the princess of Hyrule”)
I would live in Kakariko Village and I’d be the potion-maker’s apprentice.
We’ve sort of seen the beginnings of Hyrule - What do you think the endings would be?
Twilight Princess is as close to an end as I would want.
If you only had 3 days to live in Termina, what would you do? Assume you are not playing the role of Link.
I’d spend half my time hitting on Cremia and protecting her from the Gorman Brothers, and the other half hanging out at the Milk bar listening to the indigo-Go’s.
Which piece of the Tri-Force do you think best represents yourself? I would say Wisdom (Hence my URL).
Draw yourself as a character from Hyrule (Don’t just put yourself in Link’s clothes, think about what the average citizens wear)
I cannot draw, so no.
If you had the full Tri-Force, what would you do with it? I would likely do the same thing Link did in ALttP.
If you turned into a wolf or other form of beast/animal in the Twilight, what would you look like? Feel free to draw it.
I cannot draw, so no. I’d probably be a fox or something.
What’s one thing that you want to see the most from the series? (ex - Remake of your favourite game, a new style of game, new TV show or comic, etc.)
Play as Zelda. Also, give me at least an Anime OVA Mini-series!
What DLC pack would you make for Hyrule Warriors that hasn’t already been done?
ahhh… I dunno. That game is huge enough.
What do you think a Legend of Hilda game would be like? I would imagine it would be more of a puzzle game and have less bosses since Ravio is such a coward.
What character(s) or event would you like to see more backstory on?
The Triforce Goddesses. The King of Hyrule.
What’s your favourite part of Legend of Zelda games? (ex - Getting all the collectibles, exploring, doing dungeons, fighting bosses, story, etc.)
The puzzles, and the Boss fights!
If you could only play one Legend of Zelda game for the rest of your life, which one would it be? Twilight Princess.
Are there any Figma, Nendoroids, World of Nintendo figures you’d want to see?
FIGMAS:
I don’t collect figmas, but I want more Link & Midna figures!
Nendoroids: Again, IDK.
Are there any future Zelda games you’d like to see?
Not really. I don’t spend my time tthinking of what they could make, and enjoy what they have made.

She has no throne. Girls without thrones should not have knights, but hers won’t go. Princess Zelda – the girl who killed Calamity – would love to fade into legend, but Link’s bought a house, he’s fighting off monsters, and he’s selling giant horses to strangely familiar Gerudo men. She’ll never have any peace now. (ao3)
(chapter one) (chapter two) (chapter three) (chapter four) (chapter five)
(chapter six) (chapter seven) (chapter eight)
“I can do that.”
Zelda – presently in a meditative state, fingers looping rhythmically through her hair, twin hair clips between her teeth – blinks up at Draga. The sun is high in the boughs of the trees, thin beams of yellow laying down mottled light on the grass by the road. They’d stopped briefly along the road east from Tabantha Stable to eat and re-organize their things a bit – Link having gotten distracted during the morning and made a haphazard job of a few saddle bags. Draga, who is responsible for most of the distracting, kneels beside her, slinging his rucksack to the ground. He nods to her hands halfway through the beginnings of a single golden braid.
“Oh, no I’ve got it,” she says, smiling. “It’s just a braid.”
“Is that what you call it?”
“Excuse me?”
“Hylian isn’t my first language, but I think you understood me.”
Link, tacking the horses by the road, snorts audibly. Zelda glares at him but try as she might – his smile lopsided and newly familiar – she can’t maintain her glare. So, she glares at Draga. He looks impatient, like she should just smack him or let do it already. So, she hands him her clips and hair band and turns so she’s facing away from him. He immediately draws a finger through the braid she’s managed thus far and unravels the lot.
“Not up to your standard?” she chimes.
“No.”
For that, she does smack him.
“If I had a mirror…” Zelda mutters.
“It would still look like a Hylian did the job,” Draga says calmly, around the clips between his teeth.
“You are trying to pick a fight? Or are you just missing having enough hair to do anything with?”
Draga, already parting her front-right region of hair into workable sections, says, “Rude.”
“You’re rude. Don’t make fun of my hair.”
Draga ignores her. Focused on the task at hand. He moves carefully along the side of her head, starting with three parts and twining them deftly down, adding consecutive segments of hair as he goes (very quickly she must admit) around the back of her head. She fiddles with a wrinkle in her pant leg.
“So you’re sure about this? You don’t mind? I mean, I know we discussed this at length over the last few days and… and I know we all agreed it’s the most logical course of action and I know you said that you don’t mind, but I feel like you should know that at any time you may change your mind and we can find some other method. I could refocus my efforts on lost Sheikah knowledge. There may be vast magi-tech archives yet untapped in the shrines. Or the Beasts even. You saw Medoh at the Rito Village. We could go back there if you –”
“Hold this,” he says, taking her hand and pinching her fingers around the middle of a finished braid. Then he starts on the other half of her hair and… Zelda’s isn’t quite sure what he’s doing exactly. She can feel that he’s leaving some sections loose, then gathering them up again later with a sequential foresight that she does not really apply to hair styles.
“So?”
“I said that I’m fine with it.”
“But it’s forbidden for you… right?”
“No, I said only elders were permitted on the mountain.” Draga removes a clip from between his teeth and applies it to a part of her hair. “For generations, my family has guarded the Statue of the Eighth Heroine and preserved it from everyone. Foreigners and Gerudo alike. This mandate was passed down to my tribe, supposedly, by Nabooru herself. It is the oldest undisturbed archive of written Gerudo history dating back to the Naboorian Age. It will pre-date the Twilit Calamity and the Bandit Age.” She can feel him shake his head. “I don’t believe we will find a better place to begin our search.”
“You’re sure you’re okay with it?”
“Zelda, there are no elders left in my tribe, so it would fall to me anyway.” He finishes off another braid. “Besides, you’re the maiden-form Goddess. Who else could be worthier to tread sacred ground?” A beat. “Also, Link already paraglided down the mountain and took pictures of the exterior. So, it’s hardly that unbroachable.”
From the road, Link calls, “I said I’m sorry!”
“You’re a godless heathen.”
“I’m the Goddess’s chosen Hero?”
“A regular sort of heathen then.”
“I didn’t know!”
Draga coils the finished ropes of Zelda’s hair in a neat whorl at the top right-hand side of head, giving the mirrored spiraled braids an asymmetric weight. Draga pins the coils in place with practiced engineering and Zelda touches the finished work, admiring the complicated craftsmanship, fingers picking out the soft track and curve of her braids like a road coiling inward. She turns.
“Thank you, Draga.”
He’s still kneeling there, one arm braced against his knee. Even though she’s seated on a stump, he’s taller than her while kneeling, looking down into her face with an expression just short of worried.
“It could have nothing about the Goddess Mark. It may be a waste of time.”
“That would be fine. I like history for the sake of it.”
“You’re certain Hyrule Castle is of no use?”
Zelda nods. “Yes. Even before the Calamity, most records were lost in the fall of the Magi-Technical Golden Age.” Zelda gestures helplessly. “Our oldest texts only barely describe the events of the Twilit Calamity and before that, there are anecdotal accounts of an ancient hero who moved through Time itself. No record of his actions exist because, it’s said, he existed in a non-linear state. Stopping Ganon before his rise and after.”
Link says nothing. Reacts not at all to the descriptions of his previous lives.
“Prior to that, there’s only… myth and fairytale. So there is nothing in those catacombs worth returning for. Not if our aim is to know more about why the Goddess Mark has appeared now. Why it’s expanded its touch to you.”
“What do you know of it?”
“Theology and historical theory. We know the Goddess Mark is tied to Hylia and the creation myth of Hyrule – the Golden Goddesses who left the world in the hands of Hylia. But that’s it. Scholars of the age have only said that the Mark symbolizes the godhead, three in one – Din, Farore, and Nayru. The heart of the world. The balance that maintains existence. It appears in most Hyrulian symbolism. Hardly compelling factual account. Not like Naboorian hieroglyphs.” She sighs, almost romantically. “Such a record would be so… unromantic in its chronicle of the past. Vital. I have to admit, I’m selfishly curious to know what’s on that mountain for my own sake.”
Draga gives her a crooked smile. “Well, thank the hero Nabooru. It was she who mandated a record of Gerudo history be made written.”
“Why did she do that?”
“Hard to say. Nabooru was an ancient figure to my people, I have a theory. When the Great Chieftains brought the Gerudo out from the Sea of Sand and laid us at the shores of Hyrule… that was the moment our oral traditions began to die. Such things do not survive when you must change to survive a new world. She knew it then and committed great efforts to laying down physical records of our history. This is how we know we were different before we found Hyrule.”
Zelda smiles. “Well, for what it’s worth, I’m glad your people did find Hyrule. We would be poorer for it had they not come.”
“Yes, I guess history would look very different.”
Link catches the tail end of the conversation then, walking up to tap her shoulder.
He signs, ‘We should go. I want to be past the Scab Lands before nightfall.’
“Okay,” she says.
And she kisses him on the cheek. She does it carefully, catches his chin with two fingers so he doesn’t move and fits her lips against the warm plane oh his cheekbone. There. Proud of herself – and feeling very giddy – she stands up and heads toward the road. She isn’t aware that anything extraordinary has transpired until Draga says, “For fuck’s sake,” and kicks her knight escort in the ankle to break him out of the trance. She smiles all the way back to the road.
When they reach the Scab Lands, there are three Gerudo on the road
Two of them, carrying twin travel packs and matching jackets, are dressed for the road heading north into Tabantha, bundled prolifically in an excess of scarves. One of them is capped in an adorable wool-knit hat, a grandmotherly kind with a pom-pom stuck to the top. This would seem a bit much, if Zelda hadn’t seen Draga stuff himself into excessive layers back in the Rito Village and his subsequent almost primal hate for the snow. He is, in fact, still wearing a scarf presently.
The two girls are talking to a third Gerudo woman on horseback. Her violently red hair is pulled back in a heavy tail – from it, hundreds of sparkling beads catch the light when she turns her head. She’s wearing a veil. Blue fabric pinned at her temples by elaborate gold clasps. The scimitar at her hip is sheathed in a mother of pearl scabbard. Zelda notes that, upon seeing them, Draga sits up a little straighter and nudges Arbiter into a faster trot.
“Greetings!” says the girl in the cap as they draw near. Her accent is very strong. She waves while her companion – a little older, sharing enough of her bone structure and contempt to be a sister – rolls her eyes and gently pushes her arm down.
“Good evening,” says the older girl in carefully done Hylian. Then in Gerudo, to Draga, “That’s quite a horse. I’ve never seen one more beautiful.”
Draga also in Gerudo, says, “Now you’ve done it. It’ll all go to his head now.”
Arbiter, as if on cue, tosses his massive head and nickers, stomping a hoof in the dirt and blowing air at the nearest girl who startles, almost losing her cap. The older girl laughs loudly. Draga smiles a little – just a suggestion of it but so specifically gentle Zelda finds herself studying the shape of it. Cataloging it. Hoping to commit it to memory so she can identify it again in the future – like the flight patterns of birds or the phenotypes of a rare plant species.
“Are you two headed north?” he asks.
“Yeah. Meeting a family friend. He says he has work for us,” says pom-pom girl.
“That’s good,” Draga says. “Lots of young Gerudo leave town without a single part of a plan. You’re doing better than I did.”
“Didn’t plan well for the cold though,” says the older girl. “I’m not looking forward to freezing my tits off on some gods forsaken snowfield.”
“I am!” enthuses pom-pom. “There will be snow. I’ve never seen snow.”
“Say that again when you run into a snow rhino,” says Draga, amused.
The older girl stares in horror. “What the fuck is a snow rhino? Don’t say there are snow rhinos.”
“There are snow rhinos. They’re ornery. I’ve seen them.”
Zelda notes that Draga leans harder on the male-conjugation than he does when speaking Gerudo with her. The older girl gives no sign she notices – possibly because she is distracted by the snow rhino and the fact earmuffs will not protect her from getting gored by one. The younger Gerudo girl though… as the conversation goes on, visibly frowns and Zelda can tell she’s trying to figure out Draga’s understandable but slightly canted take on her own language. It occurs to Zelda that the occasion for personal male modifiers in Gerudo might be uncommon enough that not everyone might have bothered to learn them.
About sixty seconds into the conversation, the younger girl confirms Zelda’s suspicions by blurting, “Oh! You’re a voe!”
Delighted. Like she just figured out a difficult riddle. Draga and her sister, bent over a map and reviewing their likely path north for safety and friendly rest stops, stare blankly at her. Draga, still in his saddle, glances at the older girl who balls a hand over her face in humiliation. This signals to the younger girl that she’s made an error and she wilts.
“Oh, uh, I mean…” She switches to her mother tongue. “Sorry. That’s rude right?”
“Yes, Rima. That’s rude,” says her sister, exasperated. “Goddess, you’re embarrassing.”
“But both the blonde ones are women, right, Taz?”
“No, you idiot. The short one is a man.”
“Really?” She stares openly at Link who tilts his head. “Are you sure?”
“You need to get better at this, I can’t tell you who is man and woman every time.” She looks directly at Draga. “I am so sorry.”
“It’s alright,” Draga says, visibly trying not to laugh.
“Are you two on Pilgrimage?” Zelda says in Gerudo.
“Oh! Your accent is so pretty!” Rima exclaims, clutching her hands to her chin. “You know Gerudo? That’s so amazing. No one knows our language! I’m so bad in Hylian. I say the wrong things.”
“You say the wrong things in every language,” Taz snaps.
Zelda makes introductions and accepts compliments on her hair and, through the corner of her eye, watches Draga dismount and start going through his saddle bag. He pulls out a small wood box she’s never seen and what looks like a snowquill doublet and overcoat with a couple ridiculous hats. The hats are also snowquill, but twice as thick as normal with ear flaps that make her immediately regret not seeing him wear it. Draga inspects these items with a calm appraisal, then turns and holds them out to the older girl.
“You two should take these,” he says.
Rima bounces a little at her sister’s shoulder, peering as she takes the coats and opens the little wood box. “Oh. Pretty. What are they?”
“Are these warming stones?” says Taz, her eyes big.
Draga nods.
She looks up. “We can’t take these.”
“Sure, you can.”
“These are too valuable!”
“They aren’t worth a thing.”
“You’re lying!”
Draga looks mock hurt. “I’m sorry. We just met and you’re calling me a liar?”
Taz loses some of her cool worldliness to alarmed sputtering but Rima is already pulling on the snowquill doublet, and then the overcoat, patting it with warm brown hands and smoothing the thick material down. She admires its fit (a bit too large honestly, even with the doublet beneath) and spins around so the longer part flaps out around her. She can’t quite lower her arms to her sides on account of the layers.
“So warm!” she says, beaming from the gap in her scarf and hat.
“It’s standard gear, but high quality,” Draga says. “Don’t let anyone try to trade you for it. The doublet and warming stone should be enough to keep even Tabantha cold out. Don’t go without full gear once you hit the snowfield. The temperatures there are deadly if you’re not ready. Besides, I’ll hardly have use for it back in the desert.”
Link signs, onehanded to Zelda, ‘That gear is worth near its weight in gold.’
Zelda blinks, then signs, ‘What?’
‘Rito can only make so many snowquill pieces a year since they use molting feathers. And warming stones are usually ruby. That equipment is no joke.’
The girl with earmuffs is already pulling the warming stone from the box – an adjustable leather wrist-cuff into which a single small red stone is filigreed in with silver wire. The stone has to be flush to skin to transfer its effect, Zelda knows. Draga tells her so and shows her how to tie the bracer to ensure it can’t come off. Then he says earmuffs are inadequate against Tabantha cold and places the ridiculous hat on her head. Rima squeals in delight. Taz tolerates this new development like she knew it was coming.
Draga pulls the flaps of the hat down around her ears and frowns down at it with a kind of judicious pragmatism and vague fraternal concern that makes Zelda aware, suddenly, of herself and the fact she’s sitting on her horse watching her giant friend vaguely mother people on the road. Makes her aware of Link kind of grinning besides her and as Draga finishes tying the stupid hat on his fellow Gerudo, Zelda acknowledges her desire (familiar and strange simultaneously) to put her hand on one of them. Not in any way specifically, just to be in contact.
The woman on horseback, who up until now has said nothing, waits until the sisters have departed with elaborate promises of returning the favor one day that Draga clearly appreciates, but expects nothing of. The woman’s horse is shockingly beautiful, golden in color, perfectly groomed, and stands at disciplined attention until she, gently, taps her heels into the beast’s flanks. The sun catches on the painted kohl and red that lines her eyes. She smells faintly of jasmine and when she smiles, Zelda can see it in the way her eyes crinkle and she says…
“You can’t buy the love of the People, you know.”
Zelda, stunned, just stares.
Draga, however, seems unmoved, He sneers, actually, his lips curling back like a dog bares its teeth. “I wouldn’t pay shit for your affection.”
She smiles. Her voice is almost gentle, musical, even in Hylian. “Come now, isn’t it a difficult life to choose?”
“You don’t choose,” he says.
“Of course, you do,” she says, almost gently, almost affectionately. “I’ll show you if you like. It’s easy. Here tell me: What is your real name?”
Draga’s expression changes then – a scorching burn of rage like a flash-fire on clay, baking in a color. He gets darker, if possible, with the intensity, the totality, of his anger in that single moment but even through that heat, Zelda catches it – an undercurrent. A brief but violent glow of hurt. Then he speaks through his teeth.
“You should ride on.”
She’s still smiling behind the veil.
The woman kicks her horse forward a little, so the beautiful gold animal circles to his left. “But don’t you want wisdom from a sister?” she asks, continuing to circle when Draga holds his ground. “I gave it to those girls, I’ll give it you. As if you were like them. The courtesy due your mothers at the least. Here’s my wisdom: Stay out here. Don’t go back. You’ll do much better where they don’t know shit about the People.” Here, she looks directly at Zelda. “Riju isn’t a little girl on the road with no jacket. She knows a shorthair heretic when she sees one.”
“Excuse me?” Zelda says in Hylian.
And the beautiful woman switches to Hylian just to clarify, “If you want to fuck a Gerudo, you should fuck a real one, girl.”
Link puts his fingers in his mouth and whistles.
He splits the air with that whistle, cracks it open with that sound. A piercing almost painful zipline of air, high and aggravating – cut with an impossible vibrato and quite without warning the beautiful woman’s horse throws its head, issues an equine scream, and bolts. The woman, clearly not expecting that, shrieks and flails forward, snatching the reins and hanging on as the mare gallops full speed, breakneck fast down the road. By the time she recovers she and her horse are a quarter mile away.
Link drops his hand. Zelda stares. Draga glares. Link just shrugs.
“How’d you do that?” Draga says, patting Arbiter on the nose. The massive stallion acts rather like it didn’t hear a thing.
Link nudges Epona off the road. “We’re behind schedule. We should go.”
Zelda looks at Draga. “Are you alright?”
He mounts up. “Of course.”
“Why would she say something like that?”
Draga looks at her. His expression so neutral it makes a momentary statue of him. “Link’s right. We should try to gain ground before it gets much darker. This area isn’t safe at night.”
Zelda thinks about the flight pattern of birds, the mating habits of poisonous frogs, the sexual dimorphism between the male and female of a certain species of lizard, and the precise balance of the smile that touched Draga’s mouth when he tied that stupid hat on Taz’s head. She nods and follows her companions off the beaten path and they head into the wilds at the foot of the mountain range beyond, toward the uneven ridges that mark Draga’s homeland.
“That’s too much salt.”
“You said add more salt.”
“Not that much.”
“I can’t un-salt something, Link.”
There’s a silence.
“No. I’m not taking cooking critique where you spell things for me in Sign.”
“Add a little more of everything.”
“How about you give better instructions and we won’t have this problem?”
“How about you don’t dump too much salt in my salmon risotto and we won’t have this problem?”
“Never mind. Go back to not speaking.”
Zelda looks up from the bow in her lap – recurve composite, Gerudo make, one of Link’s spares dug from the vast and confusing depths of his enchanted travel pack. It feels warm and familiar in her hands. The wood curved like the dip of a hipbone. She watches her compatriots. Link is hovering and peering over his shoulder with a kind of bland anxiety that’s specific to food. Draga is glaring at him for it. She goes back to what she was doing because she explicitly warned Draga not to try and help Link cook. He gets weird about it. So, this his bed to lie in.
She smooths her fingers up and down the shape of the bow, fitting her fingers to the leather grip at the center, feeling again and again a vague sensation of reflex. Of want. It’s one of the lightest in Link’s arsenal at a thirty-five-pound draw – just enough pull to down an opponent if she puts some intention to it. The bowstring lays coiled in her lap, tacky, wrapped in wax paper.
“Could you back up?” Draga says.
Link does not do that.
“I need you to back up.”
Link kind of makes a face and Draga picks up the entire plate of spare ingredients from the grass and shoves it into his arms. “That’s it. I’m done You are like…” He says something in Gerudo that Zelda thinks is slang, but translates like ‘a jackal in heat’ or something to that effect. “I hate fish anyway.”
Link looks offended.
Draga leaves him there looking offended and comes to join Zelda. “You going to string that?”
“I’m trying to remember how.”
“I can show you.”
“No. I’m trying to remember.”
He frowns, then realizes. “Oh.” He crouches down in front of her, inspecting the weapon in her hands with a thoughtful reconsideration. “What is that like? Trying to remember something that didn’t happen in this life?”
“Like I’m remembering something I did in a dream,” Zelda says, carefully unspooling the bowstring from the wax paper. “I can ignore it if I want. What I remember in a dream does not confuse me. I am never uncertain about what I have done and what has been done by my predecessors.” She hooks the top of the string into the notch at the bottom of the bow. “Often, it’s not memory at all. Just a feeling. Indistinct.” She stops here to stand up, bracing the bottom of the bow against the ground just outside her right boot with the curve hooked up hugging the back of her left thigh, set diagonally between her legs. “It’s nothing specific. Just…”
Draga waits. “Want a hint?”
“No… I know this. I…” She grips the top curve of the bow and pushes it down like a lever forward, the body of bow bending against her leg. This gives her just enough time to hook the string into the top notch. She releases the tension and the line goes taut. “Ha!” She steps her leg out of the freshly strung bow and presents it to Draga. “It’s like muscle memory!”
Draga tilts his head. “Well, if it’s muscle memory, Princess, maybe we should try some target practice.”
She falters a moment. “Oh… well I could try.”
Draga fetches his own quiver from their equipment, taking long enough that she begins to regret her decision. She fully regrets it by the time he hands her the first arrow. He waits. Clearly not intending to help her figure it out whatsoever.
Nervous now, Zelda readjusts her grip on the bow in her left hand, awkwardly sliding her hand down the arrow from the middle of its length to the feather-fletched end. The feel of it sends a vague blush of familiarity through her. She closes her eyes. She imagines… fitting the bolt to the string, drawing it back. A compound movement, pushing the bow away and drawing the line back, high at first, then lining up. Mathematical. Precise. Her line of sight focuses and – she opens her eyes.
Draga is peering down at her, waiting and curious.
She shoves the arrow back at him, a sick well suddenly in the back of her throat.
“Never mind. I don’t want to practice this.”
Draga blinks a little owlishly. “Why not?”
“I just don’t want to. The draw weight is too heavy for me anyway.”
“How would you know unless you tried?” Draga says, his brow rising slightly.
“I… I just would rather not.”
He takes the arrow.
“Is this because you said you thought about killing me?” And when Zelda goes ramrod stiff, petrified, he scratches his chin and says, “Your dream-mind notwithstanding, if you think you can kill me, it’s going to take more than an arrow, Princess.”
She sputters, horrified. “I would never –!”
“Then there’s no reason not to learn this,” Draga interrupts.
He offers her the arrow again. When she does not immediately take it back and, instead, stands there frozen, he says, quietly, “It would be useful if you learned this.” A beat. “Relearn it.” Another beat. “Whichever it is. I barely follow you two when you talk about these things.”
“Draga…”
He steps forward and with an old archer’s ease, he fits three fingers beneath her left elbow and lifts her bow arm to a proper height. He nocks the arrow to the string for her, his fingers momentarily fitting hers to the line.
“Just draw,” he says.
Eventually, after a long moment, she draws.
It’s like taking a breath.
“Hm,” he says.
“What’s ‘hm’?”
“You have a long pull.” He moves out of her line of sight, behind her. “You draw all the way past your ear.”
“This feels right. Is that bad?” she asks, maintaining her stance, aiming indistinctly at the trees.
“Not necessarily,” he says. She can feel the shrug. “Your footwork is good. How does it feel?”
“Familiar.”
“It should.” His mouth is suddenly very close to her ear. “I saw you shoot at that dragon.”
A shiver runs down her spine and coils in Zelda’s stomach. A murmur enters her heart, but before she can react, he loops his quiver belt around her hips, drawing it tight. He’s kneeling behind her to do this, his hands occasionally bracing against her hip as he fits it. He’s not gentle exactly, tugging at the strap with a utilitarian strength she might expect if he were tacking Arbiter for the road. It forces her to brace. She looks over her shoulder to glare at him, but when she turns her head, he looks calmly up at her from where he’s kneeling. The fire light illuminates one side of his face, painting a gold heat into the high plane of his cheekbone and –
She immediately faces forward again, suddenly very aware of his hands against her hip.
He finishes adjusting the quiver and stands up.
“There’s a knot in that oak. Think you can hit it?”
She squints down the shaft, the bowstring digging into her fingers as she holds the tension and… she relaxes. She lowers the bow with the arrow still nocked to the string and turns at the hips to look up at Draga.
“Why did that woman speak to you like that on the road today?”
Draga blinks. “This is an obvious delaying tactic.”
“It’s an honest question.”
Draga thinks about it. “When you were learning Gerudo, you were taught the importance of gendered conjugation in our language, yes? That our pronouns delineate Gerudo as its own gender category. Then non-Gerudo women and men.” When he gets a small nod from her, he goes on. “Naboorian dialects are the only Gerudo dialects that allow for Gerudo-specific male modifiers at all and that dialect is not widely spoken. So, in effect, my own language does not properly allow for my existence.”
Zelda’s brows lift in surprise. “The dialect you speak… it’s an offshoot?”
“A slight variant. But yes. My family spoke it, but not many outside the Highlands do.”
She hesitates, then admits, “I honestly thought that Gerudo-specific conjugation was gender indifferent until I met you.”
He shrugs. “Our most common conjugation structures evolved without distinction. Hardly unnatural, but it’s also why that woman said what she said. If I have used any modifiers other than Naboorian – then she wouldn’t, perhaps, have spoken up.” He pauses a moment, thinking. “I have had more fights with Gerudo over my dialect than any other moral disagreement.”
“Why?”
“It’s very hard for the narrow-minded to ignore me when I speak Naboorian Gerudo.” He smiles a little, but it’s a brittle baring of teeth. “It’s subtle. Outside of my own dialect, if I wanted to specifically delineate myself as a man… I would have to linguistically separate myself from being a Gerudo.”
Zelda shakes her head. “Why don’t I know this?”
“You’re Hylian,” he says, shrugging. “Also, you were fighting Calamity Ganon so I hardly fault you for not being finely aware of the societal riffs among my people. Now, are you going to shoot that bow or do you want a grammar lesson?”
“Well…”
Draga waits.
“Oh, very well. I will try.”
Draga smiles.
Zelda turns back to her target. After a moment’s consideration, she draws a second arrow, hooking the feathered end into the loop of her pinkie finger while she sets the first arrow to the line – both shots held ready now in her right hand. She breathes. She thinks – not of the desert. No. Not the desert. Something else. Like… like standing in a long yard. She imagines her hair shorn short for battle, her fingers callused and scarred. Zelda draws. Aims. Releases the shot. Flips the next bolt over her knuckles and sets it to the line. Pulls. Fires.
When she lowers the bow, two arrows stand quivering from the mouth of the hollow, clustered at the head.
“Huh,” says Draga.
“That’s a Sheikah’s draw,” says Link.
Zelda blinks, her heart-pounding elation -- alien and effervescent, like she’s stealing it from another world entirely – subverted by the frank certainty the statement. Link is no longer cooking by the fire. He’s standing with Draga, watching, arms folded. The campsite smells of salmon risotto. Link’s hair catches bits of gold in the fire light, Draga beside him lit in copper. She blinks again at the peculiar mirror they make of one another, both peering at her with identical looks of intrigue.
Link points. “The way you bring it up, pull past your ear, and sight. The reload method. It’s Sheikah.” He shrugs, then signs, ‘I don’t know how to shoot like that. It’s one of the most challenging styles I know of.’
“Oh…” Zelda looks uncertainly to Draga, who just shrugs, then back to Link. “Really?”
He nods and she feels a strange dissociation, staring at her own fingers.
She shakes it off. “Okay, so I use a Sheikah draw? Is that bad? What style do you use, Link?”
Draga interrupts immediately, at volume, “Link shoots with his wrist out and some bizarre pinch and draw I’ve never seen and it’s appalling. Do not do what he does or ask for his advice.”
Link shrugs. “It a Zora draw.”
“It’s what?”
“I trained with Zora when I was younger,” he says blandly. “They shoot that way to keep their fins out of the line. I didn’t know that when I was a child.”
Draga stares. “So you shoot weird because you’re too lazy to retrain yourself?”
Link shrugs again.
“You’re unbelievable.”
Link says, “Dinner’s ready,” and walks back to the fire. Rather like nothing of great surprise occurred, leaving Zelda and Draga to stare after him.
Zelda shoulders the bow for a moment. “Draga… thank you for telling me all that.”
“You both deserve to know before I take you into it.”
“Can I ask one more thing?”
“Of course.”
“Why did she ask for your ‘real name’?”
He looks at her, a little surprised, then says, “Only demons have many names.”
Zelda blinks. “What?”
“Do you not say that in Hylian?”
She shakes her head.
“Oh.” He ponders this, rubbing his neck like there’s a knot there, his other arm folded across his stomach. “I’m not sure how to say it in Hylian, Names have power in the desert. Saying I have the wrong name...”
Zelda lays a hand on his arm, drawing his hand down. He looks at her.
“You know that we prefer you as you are, right?”
He stares at her. A strange expression. Like he hadn’t seen her properly or the dark made odd shadows in her face. “Thank you, Zelda.”
“Always.”
Zelda wakes to Link’s hand on her arm.
It’s still dark. She can hear crickets in the forest. Even the embers of their fire are dark.
Link’s face is just barely discernable in the moonlight, the blanket having fallen off his shoulder when he rolled over to wake her. He says nothing, but she knows what’s wrong. She crawls carefully over her knight, bare feet sinking into gap between their sleeping pads, fingers bracing against the mess of bedding. She can feel dew on the fur Link pulls over the top, strictly to keep the dampness off the wool.
Draga, lying next to Link, is breathing too fast. Keeps jerking involuntarily. Half-formed words escaping him in quiet suppressed bursts, like someone has a hand on his throat. He’s on his side, spine curled slightly forward, arms drawn close to his chest, like he’s cold… or like he’s trying to clutch his throat in his sleep and can’t. Zelda lays a hand over his brow and a faint gold light wells gently in her fingers. Link’s eyes – suddenly visible, blue, holding the glow in a way that defies what she knows about illumination – meet hers.
Eventually, the tension leaves Draga’s limbs. His hands unclench and the faint, pained tension in his features smooths away to unconscious neutrality. For another minute she sits there, her hand against his head and Link’s chin against her shoulder. She listens to them breathing until, vaguely, she realizes they’re breathing together and Link’s fallen asleep against her. They won’t mention it in the morning.
A reminder: Link doesn’t look dangerous until he is.
Lake Alumeni lies shining at the foot of the Gerudo Highlands. An icy wellspring of water wreathed by a copse of apple and evergreen trees, knotted with heather and long grass. The grass gives way to a sandy slope of shore before the lake’s edge and it’s there, under the dying sunlight, Link does as Draga asked of him. Namely: be very dangerous for a while.
He’s crouched, waiting, sword in hand.
He says, calmly, ““You won’t beat me without magic.”
Draga, knotting anther bandage around his forearm, snarls, “I know, you tiny bastard.”
Link doesn’t smile.
The lackadaisical courtesy of previous sparring sessions has gone, replaced with mercenary indifference – the blank, blue-eyed battle stare that is precursor, Zelda knows, to terrible violence. That’s the face he wears now. Apathetic as physics when he puts an impossible bend in the universe and uses it to smash his friend to the ground. Repeatedly. Viciously. Trying to draw out an response. Even the blunt edge of the sparring sword does the job – laying a ragged road of bruises and shallow cuts down Draga’s arms. Leaving him panting, laved in sweat and sticky with blood. IT’s been hours.
The air stinks with like live current. Link’s breath like the air before a lightning strike. There’s a storm in his eyes when he’s like this. Zelda almost forgot.
“Ready?” he says.
Draga thinks about it. Then nods.
Link hits him instantly. The blade sings with the blow and Draga lunges back. He swings a massive blow at Link’s flank, but he just pivots, ducks the side slash, and smashes his elbow into Draga’s back as he goes past. Draga hits the ground rolling and comes up instantly. Draga attacks. Fast. He’s still so fast, even now, but Link is always that much faster. He deflects the blow, pivots, and comes up slashing, sword ringing when it slams into Draga’s. It puts a terrible vibrato into the metal, driving the bigger man back but Link does not stop. Doesn’t slow an iota.
He presses the exchange with a merciless speed, the entire time saying, “No,” and “C’mon!” and “I’m going to kill you, if you don’t get this!”
(Zelda tells herself he doesn’t mean that. It’s a tactic. It’s just talk.) But he doesn’t stop.
Draga’s breathing hard. He tries to catch his balance. Link keeps coming. Link gets past his guard, strikes a glancing blow to his head. Draga keeps his feet, but only just and Link lays open another bleeding line against wrist, his thigh, his hip – Draga flinches and that’s when the lake shore shivers. Draga is already swinging when it happens. He brings the blade down and the impact is Lynel-like, buckling Links arm and spinning him around.
This time, the metal does not howl. It eats the impact and the air around him becomes heat-smeared, mirage-like. When he steps forward, small pebbles on the ground begin to shiver and jump as if caught in the gravity of a localized star. The surfaces of the lake ripples, a barometric shiver in the air displacing the mirror shine.
But Draga’s thrown his sword down.
He stands there, stock still, his hands clenched in front of him. Eyes closed. Breathing too fast.
Link, seeing this, steps back and lowers his blade.
“Control it,” Link says loudly. “Focus!”
“What the hell… do you think… I’m doing?”
His eyes take on a shine – glowing internally, red – usually a controlled burn, steady as the embers in a blacksmith’s forge. Now, she can see the erratic pulse of it, like someone is inexpertly pumping bellows into the forge, throwing sparks and heating the interior too fast, too much. He shakes his head. He breathes too fast.
Zelda steps in.
She’s got her hands around Draga’s wrists, then around the back of his neck. It’s like grabbing a burning skillet from a flame. She can feel the heat hissing against the thin golden shell that paints her skin, like heat crackling in water. She pulls his forehead down to hers and pushes that golden light through her palms into the muscles in the back of his neck where it travels like water down a wall, dousing his skin where it touches.
He's gasping. “I can’t breathe…”
“You can breathe. Breathe when I breathe.”
Draga’s breath is hot against her face, but it’s cooling. She feels the resistance start to give, like trying to dam water with your hands then letting it go. He lets her pour out light, running over his skin, into his skin and evaporating on contact. And in the same breath she can feel the… depth he was talking about, like a house that’s bigger on the inside, the vast space into which she is pouring herself with no hope of filling. The void that dragons opened inside him. But even so, Draga’s skin feels human again. When he breathes, there’s gold in it.
She pushes, carefully, another dose of sunlight against his skin and he twitches, shivering.
“It’s like a ocean moving around you,” she murmurs. “Like a river. You can direct part of the flow, but you can’t control it. Do you feel it?” She breathes slowly, speaks calmly. “You have to let go or you’ll drown. Every time.”
“It’s like you have your hand in my chest,” he says, surprising her.
“I won’t hurt you.”
“That’s not what I mean.”
“It’s okay. You’re not losing control.”
“That’s not what I meant, either.”
She blinks. “Oh.”
Zelda doesn’t recognize the way he’s looking at her. But at the same time, she knows it exactly. There’s gold on her tongue when she kisses him. There it is again – that dirty copper taste, like swallowing a coin. Like warming a spoon with her mouth. Her fingers close in his hair, her nails dragging on his scalp and when she finally pulls away, the air is calm around them. No longer boiling where they touch. Nevertheless, she feels hot. Her fingers against his neck pulsing, her heartbeat in her hands and in her stomach and she feels dizzy, like her head is filled with vapor.
She pulls away.
Draga shivers. “Thank you.” He looks at Link. “Both of you.”
Link joins them. The alien battle blank edge resolved into a kind of wry concern. He wipes sweat from his face with his sleeve, managing a small smile and a shrug that says, without sign or sound, ‘Whatever it takes.’
“Honestly,” Draga says again. “This would be much harder on my own. I’m glad I’m not this time.”
“Of course,” Zelda says emphatically. “I said you could rely on us and I mean it. I do. We’re going to figure this out together. We’re going to figure out the nature of this new magic. We’re going to go with you back to the Gerudo. We’re going to move forward.” She smiles. She doesn’t’ know why – overwhelmed suddenly by an excess of happiness. Or hope. She hadn’t been aware she lacked that before. “I have every confidence. I really do.”
Link taps her shoulder.
“Hmm?”
He cups her jaw and draws her into a kiss, tilting her head and his tongue is salt and milk in her mouth. Her heart races. A dizzy delight rising in her throat and she giggles a little. For some reason, Link seems to like that, and the way he’s kissing her becomes a little feral, his fingers knotting in her hair, his teeth just barely catching against her lip and rather without meaning too, a small moan rises in her throat. High and broken and Link immediately pulls back. Red in the face.
“Sorry,” he says, stepping back.
“What for?” says Draga, arms folded, looking a little disappointed.
Link blushes harder. “I didn’t mean to do that.”
“Why not?” Zelda says, a little punch drunk.
Draga laughs. “You’re allowed, you know.”
Link hesitates. Then, rather like he’s repeating a question, he moves toward them again. He looks between them. She can tell he’s trying to figure out the best tactical execution here. Draga just rolls his eyes, bends down, and lays a hand against Link’s jaw.
“For someone who clearly knows what they’re doing,” he says, “you embarrass easy.”
Link gets redder. “Got to hell,” he says, but in the wrong tone of voice.
Draga smiles.
Zelda notices the back of his left hand is brushing her bare wrist.
“Maybe later,” he says.

Oh boy!! I saw this ask going around wanted to answer these! It’s a great way to kill some boredom time anyhow. :) This got ridiculously long so I’ll put it under a cut.
Legend of Zelda Asks!
Favorite game in the series
Ocarina of Time! The amount of time I spent running around not passing the game because I suck at them Hyrule fields, just exploring the areas when I was a kid!! I love the feel of the environment. I have to put Majora’s Mask and A Link to the Past on here too for the same reason. I love these games, I love their lore, I love their characters, and I love their art.
Least favorite game in the series
This is really hard because I love them all??? Take Skyward Sword for example. I LOVE THE STORY. I LOVE FI SO MUCH. IMPA SOOOOO MUCH. ZELDA!!! But the gameplay itself is long af and pretty boring. But I love it too much to rank it anywhere in “least favorite of the series”. I guess I’ll say A Link Between Worlds because I couldn’t really get into it.
Favorite character
Hyrule Warriors Impa is my main gal. Forever and always. Paya from Breath of the Wild. And the main bae has to be Twinrova in Ocarina of Time. Seriously the highlight of the OOT experience as a kid was getting to see Koume and Kotake and seeing them turn into Twinrova. Absolute faaaave! *___*
Least favorite character
Kafei. Ugh.
Favorite version of Link
Hyrule Warriors Link makes my heart go pitter patter~~~~ Did you know!! Link was actually one of my first crushes as a kid. And he just keeps getting hotter.
Favorite version of Zelda
Breath of the Wild Zelda, hands down!! What a precious darling, I love her to pieces. She has so much personality.
Favorite female character
Twinrova! Impa! Paya! Fi! Zelda! Nabooru! Saria! I can’t just pick one.
Favorite male character
Link! Ganondorf!
Favorite main character
Does Impa count as a main? Because if so, Impa.
Favorite side character
Twinrova and Paya!!
Favorite area (from any game)
Gerudo Fortress in Ocarina of Time. As a kid, I used to waste hours sneaking in there with child Link, messing around the fortress trying not to get caught. For some reason that was really fun for me.
I’m also deeply passionate about Clock Town in Majora’s Mask because I loved the design so much that it made me want to live there.
Favorite villain
Twinrova!!! She’d def count. Koume and Kotake are the best.
When did you get into the series? How did you find out about it?
I think it was my stepdad who bought OOT and then gave me his copy of A Link to the Past when I was 10 or so. I think I may have had one of the other Zelda games for the Gameboy and since I didn’t understand how to play it (I couldn’t get far at all), I kind of just ignored my cartridge until OOT happened. I fell in love with the Kokiri forest right off the bat.
If you could develop the next Zelda game, what would it be like?
I’d go all out with the romance (LinkxZelda? GanonxZelda? ImpaxZelda? PayaxLink? LinkxMalon? AnjuxGanon? MiphaxLink? FixLink!!! GanonxImpa!!!) because we all know the series is lacking in it soooooo bad. I’d also give my favorites much bigger roles like Impa and Twinrova. And I’d answer the question of what happened to Navi. I’d give Fi a much more prominent role. Link would still be the main player, tho. But I’d made Zelda a playable option, too. I’d divide it in two arcs!!! One you can play as Link and one as Zelda and their interconnect. You’d have to pass both to unlock the last area of the game with the true ending.
What spin-off game would you like to see? (ex - Sports game, Party game, Racing game, etc.)
A Party game would be so cool!!! Depending on the roster of course but, I call dibs on Impa or Mipha!!
What cross-over game would you like to see with Legend of Zelda? (ex Legend of Zelda + Mario)
I honestly don’t know, I’m not a big fan of crossovers. LOZ is magnificent by itself.
What character would you put in Hyrule Warriors that isn’t already in the game?
Mipha!!! She’d be amazing to play. -heart eyes-
If you could live in Hyrule, where would you live? What would you do for a living? (Be a little more imaginative than just “I wanna be the hero” or “I would be the princess of Hyrule”)
XD Well, I answered before that child me wanted to live in Clock Town from Majora’s Mask. And I’d say that still applies! But I would also love to live in Lon Lon Ranch (OOT version), it looks cozy. I’d be the new Happy Mask salesman. I always found those masks to be super neat. Alternatively I’ll settle for being the new Great Fairy so I can burst out of my fountains in my true naked glory every time the cute chosen hero needs to heal.
We’ve sort of seen the beginnings of Hyrule - What do you think the endings would be?
I don’t know???? I can’t even predict how my weekend’s gonna go, how am I supposed to look so far as the “ends of Hyrule”???
If you only had 3 days to live in Termina, what would you do? Assume you are not playing the role of Link.
Go hang out at Koume and Kotake’s shop, help them out??
Which piece of the Triforce do you think best represents yourself?
Wisdom.
Draw yourself as a character from Hyrule (Don’t just put yourself in Link’s clothes, think about what the average citizens wear)
Maybe some other time, Blanche.
If you had the full Triforce, what would you do with it?
Let it float on its altar wherever that may be?
If you turned into a wolf or other form of beast/animal in the Twilight, what would you look like? Feel free to draw it.
I’d look like an otter with a coat that’s black with glowing light blue glyphy patterns.
What’s one thing that you want to see the most from the series? (ex - Remake of your favorite game, a new style of game, new TV show or comic, etc.)
I’d settle for a game that gave Impa a ton of spotlight! Alt just give me romaaaaaannnnce~~~~ Or, they’d have my heart if they brought back Koume and Kotake.
What DLC pack would you make for Hyrule Warriors that hasn’t already been done?
Full on story about Mipha. Though I understand they’re going to expand and focus on the Champions in the coming DLCs so that’s something that’s already being done. I’m mega curious about Mipha, Daruk, and Urbossa. Maybe a DLC that tosses you to old places from the old games to do zany quests.
What do you think a Legend of Hilda game would be like?
The same but more purple.
What character(s) or event would you like to see more backstory on?
These questions are so repetitive! Impa!!! Impa dammit always Impa! Mipha, too, she’s so amazing!
What’s your favorite part of Legend of Zelda games? (ex - Getting all the collectibles, exploring, doing dungeons, fighting bosses, story, etc.)
The settings and environments, the character/world design, the colors, THE ART, I’m just a huge sucker for eye candy. The bits and pieces of lore we’ve managed to make out and put together through the years. The theories. Unfortunately I’m really bad at playing the games myself, I get stuck so early and so easily. But I love these games so much, I could watch people play them all day every day. For me it’s like watching my favorite movie. I love experiencing it.
If you could only play one Legend of Zelda game for the rest of your life, which one would it be?
I guess it’d have to be Ocarina of Time since that one was my kick into the franchise and I make mention of it the most.

2. What types of threads are your least favourite?
[That’s really hard for me to say because at this point, I’m a hoe for all kinds of threads. But I suppose my least favorite is stuff that just...doesn’t go anywhere. And not because it’s just random encounter, just two characters conversing because that can be interesting and pull a lot of weight in the development department. I think it’s more when both parties aren’t pulling their weight, so to speak? Just both or one just being very passive and not helping to steer the conversation or action into more interesting areas and whatnot.]
6. Is there a correlation between the muses you like to pick up? Something in particular that draws you to a character and makes you want to write them?
[Well I didn’t MEAN to pick up so many Saiyans but it happened :’3. That aside, I think what draws me to characters is the unexplored with them in their canon, the potential for neato things in a new canon, and just giving them the chance canon never did, whether that’s just from not having screen time or just mistreatment of their character/story imo. I also really like to explore and headcanon about other cultures, which is why Nabooru and the Gerudo as well as the Saiyans are a lot of fun to me. :3]
10. Do you prefer roleplaying over writing fanfiction and/or drabbles?
[It’s about half and half, especially lately when I decided to just indulge myself and write my dumb OTP myself. So I’m just going to go with both because I like writing my own stuff but I also like interacting with other people and their takes on characters.]
